How can you find genuine work from home opportunities. What are the most promising remote job sectors in today’s market. Which red flags should you watch out for when evaluating work from home offers. How to verify the legitimacy of a remote job opportunity.
The Rise of Remote Work: Opportunities and Challenges
The digital age has ushered in a new era of work, with remote opportunities becoming increasingly prevalent. This shift has opened up a world of possibilities for those seeking flexibility and work-life balance. However, it has also created a breeding ground for scams and fraudulent job offers. Understanding the landscape of legitimate work from home opportunities is crucial for those looking to navigate this terrain successfully.
The Growing Demand for Remote Workers
Recent years have seen a significant uptick in companies offering remote positions. This trend has been accelerated by global events, technological advancements, and changing attitudes towards workplace flexibility. Many businesses have recognized the benefits of a distributed workforce, including reduced overhead costs and access to a wider talent pool.
Identifying Legitimate Work From Home Opportunities
Distinguishing between genuine remote job offers and scams requires vigilance and knowledge. Legitimate opportunities often come from established companies or reputable platforms specializing in remote work placements. These positions typically involve real skills and responsibilities, mirroring traditional on-site roles in their structure and expectations.
Key Indicators of Genuine Remote Jobs
- Detailed job descriptions and clear expectations
- Formal application and interview processes
- Verifiable company information and online presence
- Realistic salary ranges and compensation structures
- No upfront fees or investments required from applicants
When evaluating a potential remote opportunity, how can you verify its legitimacy? Start by researching the company thoroughly. Check their official website, look for reviews from current or former employees, and verify their business registration if possible. Legitimate companies will have a professional online presence and be transparent about their operations and hiring processes.
Popular Sectors for Remote Work
Certain industries have embraced remote work more readily than others, offering a plethora of opportunities for those seeking work-from-home positions. Understanding these sectors can help job seekers focus their search and develop relevant skills.
Technology and IT
The tech industry has been at the forefront of remote work adoption. Roles in software development, web design, IT support, and cybersecurity are often conducive to remote arrangements. These positions typically require specific technical skills and certifications, making them less susceptible to scams due to the verifiable nature of the qualifications needed.
Content Creation and Digital Marketing
The digital content sphere offers numerous remote opportunities for writers, editors, social media managers, and digital marketers. These roles often allow for flexible schedules and can be performed from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. However, it’s important to be wary of content mills or low-paying gigs that may exploit freelancers.
Customer Service and Virtual Assistance
Many companies now outsource their customer support and administrative tasks to remote workers. These roles can range from call center positions to personal virtual assistance. While legitimate opportunities exist, this sector is also prone to scams, so thorough vetting is essential.
Red Flags to Watch Out For
In the quest for legitimate work-from-home opportunities, being able to identify potential scams is crucial. Certain red flags can help you avoid fraudulent offers and protect yourself from exploitation.
- Promises of unrealistic earnings or “get rich quick” schemes
- Requests for upfront payments or investments
- Vague job descriptions or company information
- Pressure to make quick decisions without proper vetting
- Unsolicited job offers or opportunities found through suspicious channels
Why do scammers target those seeking work-from-home opportunities? The desire for flexible work arrangements and financial independence makes many individuals vulnerable to fraudulent schemes. Scammers exploit this by offering seemingly attractive opportunities that often turn out to be pyramid schemes, money laundering operations, or simple theft of personal information.
Platforms for Finding Legitimate Remote Work
Several reputable platforms specialize in connecting remote workers with genuine opportunities. These sites can be valuable resources for those seeking work-from-home positions, offering a level of vetting and security that can help mitigate the risk of scams.
Popular Remote Job Boards
- FlexJobs
- Remote.co
- We Work Remotely
- Virtual Vocations
- Jobspresso
These platforms often charge a fee for access to their job listings, which can be a deterrent for some job seekers. However, the cost is often justified by the quality and legitimacy of the opportunities presented. Many offer money-back guarantees if you don’t find a suitable position within a specified timeframe.
Freelance Marketplaces
For those interested in project-based work or building a freelance career, platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer.com can be good starting points. These sites allow professionals to create profiles, showcase their skills, and bid on projects posted by clients worldwide.
Building a Successful Remote Career
Securing a legitimate work-from-home position is just the first step in building a successful remote career. Thriving in a virtual work environment requires a unique set of skills and attributes that differ somewhat from traditional office settings.
Essential Skills for Remote Workers
- Self-motivation and discipline
- Excellent time management
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Proficiency with digital collaboration tools
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills
How can you develop these skills if you’re new to remote work? Many online courses and resources focus on remote work best practices. Additionally, participating in virtual networking events or joining online communities for remote workers can provide valuable insights and support.
Legal Considerations for Remote Workers
Working from home comes with its own set of legal considerations that both employers and employees should be aware of. Understanding these aspects can help protect your rights and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Employment Classification
One crucial aspect is determining whether you’re classified as an employee or an independent contractor. This classification affects your tax obligations, benefits eligibility, and legal protections. Misclassification is a common issue in remote work arrangements, so it’s important to clarify your status from the outset.
Data Protection and Security
Remote workers often handle sensitive company information from their home offices. Understanding your responsibilities regarding data protection and cybersecurity is essential. Many companies have specific policies and requirements for remote workers to ensure the security of their digital assets.
The Future of Remote Work
As technology continues to evolve and attitudes towards work flexibility shift, the landscape of remote work is likely to expand and diversify. This trend presents both opportunities and challenges for workers and employers alike.
Emerging Trends in Remote Work
- Hybrid work models combining remote and in-office time
- Increased use of virtual reality for team collaboration
- Growth of digital nomadism and location-independent careers
- Development of new tools and platforms specifically for remote team management
What impact will these trends have on the job market? As remote work becomes more normalized, we may see a shift in how companies structure their operations, potentially leading to more distributed teams and a global talent pool. This could create new opportunities for workers in previously underserved areas but may also increase competition for certain roles.
The evolution of remote work will likely bring about new challenges as well, such as addressing “Zoom fatigue,” maintaining company culture in virtual environments, and ensuring equitable opportunities for career advancement among remote and in-office employees.
Preparing for the Future of Work
To stay competitive in an increasingly remote job market, workers should focus on developing a diverse skill set that includes both technical proficiencies and soft skills. Continuous learning and adaptability will be key as new technologies and work methodologies emerge.
Employers, on the other hand, will need to refine their remote work policies and invest in tools and training to support a distributed workforce effectively. This may include developing new metrics for evaluating remote employee performance and creating innovative ways to foster team cohesion and company culture in virtual settings.
Balancing Work and Life in a Remote Setting
While remote work offers many benefits, it also presents unique challenges when it comes to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The blurring of boundaries between professional and personal life can lead to burnout if not managed properly.
Strategies for Maintaining Work-Life Balance
- Establishing a dedicated workspace
- Setting clear working hours and sticking to them
- Taking regular breaks and prioritizing physical activity
- Using technology to separate work and personal communications
- Practicing mindfulness and stress-management techniques
How can remote workers avoid feeling isolated or disconnected from their colleagues? Regular virtual check-ins, team-building activities, and occasional in-person meetups (when possible) can help foster a sense of connection and camaraderie among remote teams.
Additionally, joining professional networks or local coworking spaces can provide opportunities for socializing and networking outside of your immediate work circle. This can be particularly beneficial for freelancers or those working for fully distributed companies.
The Importance of Self-Care
Remote workers must be proactive about their physical and mental health. This includes ergonomic considerations for home office setups, regular exercise routines, and maintaining social connections outside of work. Employers can support these efforts by offering wellness programs or stipends for home office equipment and fitness activities.
By prioritizing work-life balance and well-being, remote workers can enjoy the flexibility and freedom of working from home while maintaining productivity and job satisfaction. As the remote work landscape continues to evolve, finding this balance will be crucial for long-term success and happiness in a virtual career.

anyone ever heard of “Women’s Dream Team?”
I am not personally familiar with the Women’s Dream Team. It may or may not be Melaleuca. I encourage you to check it out and DECIDE FOR YOURSELF whether it would be a good match.
Honestly as someone who is a part of Melaleuca, I am sick of the negative comments about this company coming from the moderator, who I would hope could maintain a more neutral stance. I feel that I have attempted to be as polite and considerate as possible, but now I am going to speak my mind. When these types of comments are made, it implies that anyone who chooses to be a part of Melaleuca is “brainwashed” or something of the sort (“drank the koolaid”). As an intelligent, strong business woman who is very successful, I take offense to that because I know that Melaueca is an incredible company to be a part of. It is not for everyone, but it is a wonderful company. 24 year track record, debt-free, incredible products at reasonable prices, oh, and YES, an income opportunity that involves no risk and very little investment.
While I understand the concept of “products first” and having to believe in the products, personally I don’t believe it is wrong or that a company is “not a good company to be in” just because they promote a financial opportunity. For heaven’s sakes, when someone goes to look for a day job, they often are looking for MONEY. Likewise, when someone is looking for a home business, they are often looking for MONEY. In this economy, there are so many people hurting and in need, so WHY NOT share with others that there is an income opportunity? When people are searching online for a business, they are not likely searching for a particular product – they are probably searching for an income. So it makes sense that teams would use this one of the ways to share the opportunity.
BEFORE someone signs up, they will here a full presentation which will go over all the details, including the background of the company and the foundation of our company – the PRODUCTS – and that will allow them to make an informed decision.
“No selling, no recruiting, easy money, from home.” – Not sure where you got this, Debbie, but I highly doubt that anyone who has listened to a full presentation has ever heard the words “EASY MONEY.” Come on – please don’t put words in our mouths. I am very clear with anyone I present to that this is HARD WORK. Any home business is. But it is true that I no longer have to sell products to people, carry inventory, do parties and shows, make deliveries, buy hostess gifts and catalogs, etc (all things I did for 3 years in a party-plan company). I also don’t know where someone would hear “no recruiting.” This is a customer referral business, so yeah, to make money you’re gonna have to REFER CUSTOMERS. Similar to a previous post that you made, to me I am not selling something. I am simply sharing with my friends – Hey, these are good products. I think you’d really love them. If you wanna try them, great – I’d love your feedback.
As for this statement: “But most of the stuff you can get similar products elsewhere, that are just as safe, if not safer and cheaper” – I completely disagree. I honestly wish that you wouldn’t make comments like this since you personally have not been a customer and used the products or actually spent the time to learn how our products are different. That would be like me saying that “you can get books just like Usborne’s anywhere else and probably cheaper”. I wouldn’t make that statement because a) I haven’t bought or used Usborne books, and b) I wouldn’t want to discourage others from checking out Usborne – I’d rather them check it out for themself, talk to you or someone else who does the business, and make a decision without me (i.e. someone who has no direct experience with the products and or company) influencing them.
As we are all business women sharing this forum, I would hope that we could refrain from bashing other companies and/or businesses publicly. There are plenty of companies that I don’t like and/or have had negative interactions with, and/or have heard how people have invested money and gone into debt, etc, etc, etc. Will I post those stories here? No, not unless it is MY OWN PERSONAL experience to post.
If someone were to ask me about Usborne, Mary Kay, Arbonne, Pampered Chef, or any one of the 100s of companies represented here, I would encourage them to check it out for themselves and make a decision. We are all big girls. We all have the ability to decide on our own. Let’s try and be fair and when someone asks about a particular company, let’s encourage them to get all the facts and make an informed decision.
16 Work-At-Home Scams To Avoid

By Max Mallet and Terra Stanley
Pat Colucci got an exhilarating phone call in the summer of 2009. The 75-year-old retired salesman of metal fillings, X-ray film and other dental equipment needed some extra cash, and a company called BankCard Empire in Phoenix, Ariz. offered a way: Colucci could run his own credit card processing business from the comfort of his modest home in Plainfield, NJ.
BankCard promised to provide Colucci with credit card swiping machines for sale or lease; the company would also register and build Colucci’s website to market the machines. From that point, Colucci would snare a small cut of each transaction processed. Once he sold a decent number of machines, he could kick back and watch the commissions pour in.
All he needed to get started: a one-time fee of $32,450. The trap was set.
Colucci (who says he doesn’t know how BankCard got his name and phone number) covered the bill with two credit cards—one from Chase Bank, the other from Bank of America. Weeks went by, no word from BankCard. Colucci peppered the company with calls. Crickets. After two months, Colucci knew he had been robbed. Chase Bank initially refunded Colucci’s $9,250, but later rescinded; Bank of America refused to reimburse the $23,200 Colucci had put on its card.
Scam Watch: 16 Work-At-Home Scams To Avoid
In January 2010 Colucci sued BankCard Empire (for negligence and fraud), as well as Chase Bank and Bank of America (for violating the Truth in Lending Act) in federal district court in New Jersey. Three months later the United States Postal Inspector, assisted by the Tempe, Ariz. police, shut down BankCard. Colucci hasn’t seen a dime. All charges, save for the one citing negligence, have been thrown out; the suit is still pending. As for the fraud-protection policies offered by the banks, they tend only to protect card holders from unauthorized use of their cards—not from transactions willingly performed with a crook disguised as a legitimate operation. “I feel that the banks ripped me off as much as the scammer did,” says Colucci, who lives on Social Security and is now looking for a job. A Chase representative declined to comment; Bank of America did not respond to multiple calls for comment.
Colucci has plenty of unsuspecting company in this tight economy. In 2010 the Federal Trade Commission received 8,192 complaints involving work-at-home-business opportunities, flat with the previous year. The FTC estimates that only one in every 55 of these gigs is legitimate.
Whether it involves stuffing envelopes, processing medical insurance claims or assembling toys, most victims never get paid for their work or ever recoup their startup fees. As for Colucci, not only is he out his thirty-two grand, he also has legal bills to pay. “There is no ability to recover enhanced damages or attorney’s fees in a claim against a credit card company when [you] are defrauded on a work-at-home scam,” says Billy Pinilis, Colucci’s attorney. “This usually makes it impossible for a victim to even get counsel because it makes hiring a lawyer economically infeasible. People are entering into transactions believing that they are protected from fraud, when they are not.”
You might think the chance to make easy money in pajamas would get anyone’s hackles up. So how do these schemes endure? Most victims—typically senior citizens, stay-at-home mothers and people with low incomes—are too embarrassed to file a complaint; others get so frustrated they just walk away altogether.
Smell a scam? Vet the offer with your local Better Business Bureau, which maintains a directory of local businesses. Beware: Just because the company’s name is listed in the directory doesn’t mean it’s a legitimate operation. These businesses change names all the time, masking their dirty track records.
Victims should contact their local or state consumer affairs agency, their state attorney general’s office, the advertising manager of the publication that ran the business’s employment ads and, if they received anything from the business by mail, the U. S. Postal Inspection Service.
To learn more about work-at-home schemes, also check out the Federal Trade Commission’s business-opportunities website and the National Fraud Information Center, run by the National Consumers League.
In the meantime, here are a few nasty work-at-home schemes we’ve identified over the last few years. For a full list of 16, click here.
E-Commerce Con
Making a few extra bucks doesn’t sound any easier than this: Simply pay an up-front, one-time fee (a few thousand dollars, perhaps) to have someone build and host a functioning website featuring various household goods for sale, from toothpaste to toilet paper; each time someone buys an item, you collect a slice of the transaction. All you need to do is encourage people to shop there—the rest (stocking inventory, shipping the product) is handled for you. Or, more likely, nothing is handled, and the thief offering you the opportunity is long gone with your earnest money before you’ve hocked one tube of Crest.
Letter From Nigeria
Also called the 419 scam (referring to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code dealing with fraud), this bait-and-switch has recently gained a lot of attention. The ruse takes many forms. One common flavor: An email arrives from a man claiming to be a senior civil servant of Nigeria (or another African country), who writes that he is looking for a reputable foreigner with whom he can deposit up to $60 million for safe-keeping while he deals with some dangerous political strife. In return for providing safe haven in your bank account, the thief promises to give you 30% of the money once—as one email put it—“documentations are concluded over here.” The emails may even come with a (forged) seal of the Nigerian government, just for good measure. Of course, you will be required to cough up a deposit so that you have a stake in the business venture. When your Nigerian friend later claims something has gone awry, he will ask for additional funds to tide him over—never mind that he supposedly has millions of dollars to start with. (Another non-work-at-home twist: The email may claim that you are eligible to receive a hefty inheritance from a wealthy and recently deceased diplomat or businessman. Yet another: You might be promised a handsome fee for distributing a giant stash among various charities. Yes, confirms the Federal Trade Commission: People do fall for this.
Dial-A-Crook
Lonely hearts aren’t the only fans of 1-900 numbers. Scammers use them to push bogus work-at-home gigs: Just call the 1-900 number for “more information.” While you wait on hold, you’ll rack up usurious charges, which the crook splits with the unwitting phone company. Foil the scam and, like a game of Whack-a-Mole, the bad guy simply pops up under a different name, with a different number.
Driver Wanted
This scam, recently advertised on Craigslist, has many variations. In one case, a man asks you to chauffer his wife, who is visiting your area. Easy enough, though the payment terms are a tad convoluted. You are told that you will receive a check (or “money gram”) for, say, $2,500 in the mail. You will deposit the check, then immediately pull out the cash— $700 to cover your fee and any ancillary expenses, and the rest to be mailed back to the scammer. Your bank probably won’t know for a day or two that you have deposited a fake check.
Check Cashing
Also called “money-mule” schemes. The gist: Scammers recruit U.S. agents–dubbed “financial managers” or “sales managers”–to cash counterfeit checks (or deposit stolen funds), for a small commission, and then wire that money abroad, often to the scammers themselves. By the time the bank realizes the checks are bogus (two to five days later), the money’s been sent and the unsuspecting intermediary is left holding the bag.
Medical Billing
Most of these work-from-home schemes promise up to thousands of dollars per week for processing insurance claims for doctors who are too busy to deal with the paperwork themselves. You’ll receive startup marketing materials, software, a training session and a “lead” list of local doctors–all for a fee, of course. Too bad that software costs a lot less at Best Buy, your training sessions are postponed indefinitely, your leads are vapor and no one wants your service.
Mystery Shopping
In this scam, an official-sounding entity, such as the Mystery Shopping Club of America, promises assignments to aspiring marketing researchers. How to get paid? Just make anonymous purchases at various stores and evaluate your experience–right after you pay a “registration fee” to look or apply for assignments in its database. Legitimate offers won’t require a fee or “certification” to search for companies requesting mystery shoppers. Typical prey: college students.
Pre-screened List of Jobs
This might be the most heartless one of all. Consumers pay a fee to register with the business to access a pre-screened list of “legitimate” work-at-home job listings. The scammer’s ads pop up in the course of a “scam free jobs at home” online search, and they promise a refund to those who fail to land a job. After sending in payment, victims are summarily locked out of their accounts and never see a single job opportunity.

Dream Centers Of Colorado Springs Reviews and Ratings | Colorado Spgs, CO | Donate, Volunteer, Review
I have been a volunteer with Dream Centers Mary’s Home for well over a year now. My respect grows daily as I see how dedicated the staff and volunteers are in achieving organizational missions and goals. So much time is invested to figure out how the program can most effectively impact the lives of those receiving services. When I first encountered Dream Centers, it was through the church I attended. I heard about ways I could volunteer and create support for the women in Mary’s Home to connect and build relationships with the other mother’s in the space. Mary’s Home is a living environment where single mothers experiencing homelessness can apply to live in the space and work on the future they envision for themselves and their children. It allows them to break the cycle of homelessness they are experiencing and provides a space to explore the potential of their own identity and the future they desire for themselves and their family.
Can you imagine being given the chance to engage in a life changing opportunity like this? What that must feel like to suddenly be in the midst of such hope and possibility for your future. To be given access to resources that are right at your fingertips and have the support and caring needed to help you learn to access them, use them and leverage them for your future and that of your child. When I saw first hand what Dream Centers – Mary’s Home was providing for the community I live in, I was filled with joy. I wanted to be able to be a part of supporting these women and their children as they walked this path, to be able to use my time and skills to enhance the process and create change in my community in one of the places I felt it was most needed. If I could support a mother in her path to change and growth so that both she and her child could live the life mom desired and deserved, then I knew that the example set by the mother for her child to see, could create a lasting and lifelong opportunity for the child as well. In my work with children with disabilities who face challenges and who require appropriate access to the services and supports they need to make the same progress as their peers, I knew this was just another opportunity to create access to not only the mothers who are raising these beautiful children, but also for the children to have more opportunity than they might have had, had their mother not been able to experience the blessing of Mary’s Home and the Dream Centers.
Dream Centers is the most wonderful, exciting and potential filled Nonprofit that supports the greatest opportunity we know, POSSIBILITY.

Dream Centers changes the lives of single homeless mothers and their children through education and mentoring. The mothers are able to break the cycle of poverty and/or abuse which trapped them for years. They are able to achieve a better and stable life for their families. I was so impressed to visit the Extreme Dream project they were able to build in TEN days from start to finish. What an incredible effort and their Family Life Center is a beautiful and useful facility. Every community needs their own Dream Centers to make a difference in lifting women and their children out of homelessness.

This organization is so caring and is doing wonderful things in our city!! I have had the pleasure of volunteering with them in many areas, but also utilizing some of their services when I was in need of medical care. They treat you with the utmost respect and make sure that all of your needs are met when you go to their clinic. If there is a service they can’t provide, they refer you out to another similar facility that is easy to work with (no hassles, like some other hospital referrals). They also have a wonderful facility, Mary’s Home, for women who are trying to get back on their feet, which is truly a blessing to have available here! I am so grateful to have Dream Centers in Colorado Springs!

Volunteering with Dream Centers, Mary’s Home has really blessed me. I get to work with compassionate professionals who thrive on giving a hand up to those who need it the most. They provide free educational webinars and plenty of opportunities to help out from helping at the offices to working one-on-one with those needing support. Everyone was very welcoming and excited to work with me as a new volunteer. I love this organization and the people!

I have worked with Dream Centers for a little over a year now and the impact I have seen in such a short time is incredible. Each and every member of the Dream Centers team is passionate about seeing women and children in the Colorado Springs area transformed through the Women’s Clinic and Mary’s Home, and their passion overflows into every interaction and conversation they have. I am honored to work with this ministry and help further its mission. Dream Centers is meeting a critical need and gap in care in our community and is setting the gold standard for other organizations to follow suit.

Dream Centers is one of the most incredible non-profits I have ever run across. Their heart, their mission but most importantly their impact. Each and every person on their team lives and breathes the mission to help women and children that are experiencing homelessness in the Colorado Springs community. Hearing the LASTING impact and results of the work they do is truly unbelievable. I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to work with such an extraordinary team and organization.

I started volunteering about 5 months ago. I had volunteered at a few other places around town and had enjoyed the experience. I was looking for a place to volunteer at on a regular basis and it was important for me to find a place that I could totally get behind what they were doing. Dream Centers is that place. Dream Centers does great work through Mary’s Home and the Women’s Clinic. Although I am a check list sort of person, and sometimes I get to do that, not always. Sometimes it’s just being still and listening. Some of what you hear is hard and not pretty and you can’t fix or change it. But it’s not about me. It’s about being available and willing. It’s about an amazing opportunity to partner with others to make a difference. There’s no small way to help others. Come join the team! Be that difference. It all matters.

I feel so blessed to be able to work with such an amazing organization. I have been volunteering for six months, and I am constantly amazed at the way God works in the clinic. Through this organization, I have been able to share laughter, tears, encouragements, and prayers with so many women. I truly believe that God is changing lives through the Dream Center!

Dream Centers Mary’s Home serves homeless mothers and their children in a very personal and material way. Every day spent there I see joy in the mothers, and incredible comradeship among the volunteer and permanent staff. Everyone is supportive and encouraging, which makes for very close group of people. We love welcoming new volunteers for the unique gifts each brings to the Ministry.

Review: ‘Dare to Make History’ gives unique insight into what it means to dream big, on and off the ice
It’s been just under two weeks since Monique Lamoureux-Morando and Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson announced their retirement from hockey, but they won’t be receding into the limelight just yet. Dare to Make History: Chasing a Dream and Fighting for Equity, the book they co-authored, hits shelves this week.
In it, they chronicle their journey from playing pond hockey with their brothers and neighborhood friends in Grand Forks to winning Olympic gold medals in 2018, and every setback, achievement, and lesson learned along the way.
The twins set out to write this book—their first—after the 2018 Winter Olympics. They said a few people threw out the idea to them because they have such a unique story as elite athletes and twins, and also because of everything the U.S. Women’s National Team together had accomplished in that last Olympic cycle, both on and off the ice.
That’s ultimately where the finished book shines. It’s a comprehensive, exciting account of their careers that also lends valuable insight into how the sport of women’s hockey has grown and shifted over that timespan. And it’s told by two people who not only witnessed that growth, but put in so much effort themselves to help foster it.
Thanks to the way they chose to narrate Dare to Make History, they’re able to convey these stories in a pretty unique way. Rather than write it from their collective perspective, they wrote sections of each chapter from their individual perspectives.
“I think one of the biggest challenges from the outset for us was figuring out how to use our voices, because we didn’t want it to all be ‘we’ and ‘us’,” Lamoureux-Morando said. “So it was figuring out a way to go back and forth between our voices that flowed nicely and wasn’t too choppy, and I think once we got that rhythm down, that made the process a lot easier.”
This approach benefited them as writers, allowing them to explore their own experiences and dive into what matters to them individually, but it also gives some added value to readers. The reader is in conversation with the text, as with any book, but the twins are also in conversation with each other, creating an extra layer of dialogue for the reader to tap into.
While the book contains its fair share of action-packed hockey stories, what’s perhaps most impressive about the twins’ storytelling is how they’re able to push the scope far beyond that. Their journey as hockey players and elite athletes is at the core, but it touches on so much more: mental health, personal relationships and family ties, and issues related to labor and equity in the women’s sports world.
And for as many highlight-reel moments as they have to document from their playing days, they also offer an honest, firsthand perspective of some of the toughest moments of their careers, including a triple-overtime playoff loss in their last college game, and the blown 2-0 lead against Canada in the 2014 Olympic gold medal game.

This gives a poignant look into the many stumbling blocks and setbacks elite athletes face, even when, like the Lamoureuxs, they’ve had incredibly successful careers. But, as they argue throughout Dare to Make History, success is never just about the wins and high points; instead, it’s a culmination of the highs and the lows, the bonds forged along the way, and the purpose to be found in moving ahead even after a heart-breaking loss.
As three-time Olympians, Lamoureux-Davidson and Lamoureux-Morando have gone through three Olympic centralization periods with the national team. Centralization is often a grueling, emotionally trying process for any player. Importantly, Monique and Jocelyne took some time to highlight this in the book, shedding light on some of the more difficult moments both in the lead-up to the 2014 Olympics and the 2018 Olympics.
“What people see [at the Olympics], they see you play for two weeks out of every four years. So they see the absolute tip of the iceberg. They don’t see everything else that goes on before that and leading up to that. So I think it’s important to portray it as a realistic picture and what you went through as a team, what you went through as individuals,” Lamoureux-Morando said. “If all we ever did was paint perfect pictures of everything, we could—because we could do that in certain aspects and make it sound like it was great—but no one wants to hear about how everything was perfect and great, because that’s just not reality.”
We’re also treated to an up-close-and-personal look into the fight for equitable treatment and support from USA Hockey, the governing body for both the men’s and women’s national teams. Jocelyne, Monique, and several other U.S. Women’s National Team veterans were at the forefront of this movement and the ensuing boycott that took place in 2017.
They give eye-opening testimonials on what it was like to spark those difficult conversations and eventually make the decision to boycott the 2017 Women’s World Championship. It was an exhausting and ultimately fulfilling process, and there are no better players to tell the story than these two, who came of age within the USA Hockey ranks when the women’s program was so often relegated to the back-burner. While the issues may have come to a head publicly in 2017, the players were dealing with them long beforehand.
“If all we ever did was paint perfect pictures of everything, we could—because we could do that in certain aspects and make it sound like it was great—but no one wants to hear about how everything was perfect and great, because that’s just not reality.” – Lamoureux-Morando
In one chapter, Lamoureux-Morando explains how the women were initially left out of the commemorative jersey design for the 2014 Olympics:
The most powerful moment of the book, to me, comes as they’re explaining the great lengths the national team players went to organize with their fellow pool players, college players, and others to keep the 2017 boycott going. To their knowledge, not a single player said yes to USA Hockey’s request to join the team; virtually every eligible adult women’s hockey player in the U.S. stood with them.
“We’ve talked about it and reflected on it and the magnitude of that two weeks and what that meant,” Lamoureux-Davidson said. “I think that’s why we’re so proud of our team and the program, but then you think about how amazing it is that we had that much support. And I think we had that much support because what we were doing was the right thing. If there was any question that we were trying to be selfish, or greedy, we would have been replaced. Players would have offered, and willingly offered, to take our place. I think that’s what’s so powerful about what we were able to accomplish.”
The twins have never been shy throughout their career about calling out things that need to be improved, particularly when it comes to gender inequities and unequal opportunities within the USA Hockey ranks. They offer up the same critiques and observations throughout the book, whether it’s a coaching decision they disagreed with on the ice or a time when they felt the team wasn’t getting fair treatment off of it.
Lamoureux-Davidson says that boldness comes partly from watching their brothers and other friends play professional hockey in leagues like the NHL, and having a deeper understanding of how things should be run.
“We grew up in a house where we got what our brothers got, we got the same opportunities that our brothers got, and not for any other reason than because our parents were providing equal opportunity for us within our family,” Lamoureux-Davidson said. “But when you get into environments where that’s not the case—and everyone’s talking about it, not just the two of us—it’s like ‘Well, what can we do? What’s going to be done?’ I think we’re just comfortable enough and confident enough to point those things out.
“These characteristics—and me probably more so than Monique—in different instances has gotten me in trouble because people don’t always like to hear the truth. But I think that’s where our stubbornness and opinions come from is, if everyone’s kind of talking about it, at what point do you do something about it?”
There are some deeply personal moments in the book as well. In one instance, Lamoureux-Morando shares the story of her first marriage and subsequent divorce—not an easy subject to speak about, let alone write about in such a public way for anybody to read.
“It kind of goes back to what I said before: you don’t want to paint a picture that your whole life has been perfect, and mine certainly has not been that,” Lamoureux-Morando said. “That was such a big part of my life when that happened, and so much changed for me and my perspective changed and I grew so much as a person and matured as a person, that I felt like I had to put that in there, even though it’s not something I love to talk about.”
It’s this candor, in part, that lends so much credence to the rest of the stories they tell in Dare to Make History. While they’re clear that they’re writing solely from their perspective, that perspective is an honest, transparent one. It invites readers to buy into the stories and messages written throughout the book, and in turn, to reflect on their own experiences and believe a little more in their capacity to push boundaries and create change.

Throughout the book, Lamoureux-Morando and Lamoureux-Davidson detail what it was like growing up in a family with four older brothers—and isn’t hard to see how they grew into players known for their intensity and rough-and-tumble nature. They also share plenty of lessons that were passed down from their parents in regards to sports.
But from chapter to chapter, you can also see how big an impact their parents’ philosophy had on the rest of their lives, eventually driving them to not only find ways to help out in their community but to start the Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux Foundation.
That’s one of the central messages that they believe can inspire a much wider audience, whether the reader is an athlete or parent or somebody completely removed from the sports world.
“We talked about our foundation and kind of along the way the lessons that we weave throughout the book that we learned from our parents,” Lamoureux-Morando said. “Just being a good person, making a difference, having a positive impact on people, while also chasing your dream and being elite athletes—one doesn’t have to go without the other. You can do both.”
Dare to Make History: Chasing a Dream and Fighting for Equity is out on Feb. 23.

90,000 Reviews about anime / Ahiru no Sora / Anime
Intro: I have been behind my shoulders for 2 decades already, and I still waste my time uncontrollably in search of power (truth) In general, it is rather strange that with such a small amount of “ sportsim “anime, people don’t appreciate really good work…
Self review: Let’s be honest, most viewers believe that such titles are aimed at a female audience, but they remain with this opinion before watching any “ sportsim’a “. Let’s start with the fact that the title is really pretentious, genres are typical, with the exception of drama , probably description of only confirms the idea itself, estimates of are a little surprising, and you immediately wonder: “ WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE WATCHED ALL 50 SERIES ?! “ And you know, I have an answer to this question for you:
– Pros: Here you sit and think, what can you cram into another” simulator “of a basketball team? Author’s NN Takeshi Hinata , you shove with an assistant no less “famous” Shingo Tamaki , and the final director in the person of Keizou Kusakawa , “youth club activities” will run, here are those on.And oddly enough, they did it, despite all pretentiousness , simplicity and endless “chewing gum” – this plot looks easy , sometimes even intriguing, pleasing and in general makes it clear that dreams come true. For a long time I have not received such emotions from watching, but, in fairness, there are also a whole bunch of minuses here … But even in spite of all these flaws, I would call the most undervalued story “ sportsimov ” 2019-2020. Beautiful 90,024 characters , which are revealed from and to, albeit in a stripped-down form, the correct message for young people who will hardly watch this anime, and the old people will only cry, and again the power of school youth, which is infinitely close to everyone, which we everyone once lost (They fell but rose…) Well, drama is quite pleasant here, coupled with a very homely and cozy atmosphere . Of course, you simply have to give a chance to such a long story, don’t be afraid of the cons of the plot further, I believe in you! In the middle of the pluses, a series of controversial points awaits us, so to speak, in taste and color. Initially, I was categorically against drawing , which was proposed by the guys from studio Diomedea , the main disadvantage was the excessive realism of .But, with each episode you become more and more imbued with these lines contour , these faces, attention to details , rough design of characters, but still clear backdrops and backgrounds . Gorgeous smoothness , as for “sportsim”, detailed animation of characters, no extra specials. effects , all to the point. Well, with the design and sound there is generally a separate story, like a whole life right. Let’s start with the fact that for 50 episodes you will be presented with 4 versions of opening and landing , which are decorated in completely different styles , with their own mini -plots and art, each of which will have just nice and in its own way a wonderful soundtrack, the list is: the pillows – Happy Go Ducky! (OP 1), Saji – Tsubasa (ED 1), flumpool – Nevermind (OP 2), Yuuma Uchida – Over (ED 2), BLUE ENCOUNT – Humming Bird (OP 3), Mamoru Miyano – Hikari Sasu Hou e (ED 3), ACIDMAN – Rebirth (OP 4), Shougo Sakamoto – Taiyou Runner (ED 4), each of which you simply cannot skip, I “forbid” you!
– Cons: But, as expected, in every spoonful of honey, there is a little bit of tar First, sheer nonsense about the ending , because throughout the entire plot of 50 episodes we were prepared for something more important, in principle , and so it was clear that there was no way without a second season, but the course of events didn’t lead to such an ending, for this it is definitely -rep Further, too a burdensome plot for an ordinary man in the street, believe me, most will simply jump out of the way, that’s all very slowly and for many it is obvious that is accelerating, but only a few will appreciate such a really deep approach, it’s a pity of course. In addition, they could dilute with really good humor , add some kind of 90,024 romantic 90,025 line, and they can be traced here in two places, but not leave the whole thing on its own, but alas. Do not forget about the very gloomy and darkish picture, which is not easy to dilute, realism makes its own adjustments, everything is in very faded colors, no contrast , no charm, HARD and like a man, and where is the anime “for girls” Probably, the whole idea lies in stupid angles and cameras , which really horribly show not only the characters themselves, and the game someone “observer” does not know how to look sick (sorry, a professional habit )
Conclusion: I admit, I lost to myself when I thought that it was better than Haikyuu, and even more so a classmate in the person of Kuroko no Basket – it simply cannot be, but I was very much mistaken, like many others You see, if to judge competently, then this story does not quite fit into those frameworks, realism is monstrous to the depths of the soul, a really correct “school of our youth”, you cannot do without trial and error, and after all and this catches. The infinitely pretentious and simple plot makes you fall in love with the characters, the homely and cozy atmosphere, yes, albeit with a soporific dynamics, but with the depth of the plot and absolutely good intentions and common sense! Just watch, feel the characters, the atmosphere of those years, school sports directly, and everything will immediately fall into place The humor is very mediocre, the drama is ideal, and the rest of the genres are a typical part of “sports sims”, all this will not let you get bored for the next 50 episodes, and what will be the second season, uhhh, just do not burn out from the ending) Graphics – do not expect here endless colorfulness, rainbow ponies or something else.Harsh realism, gorgeous detailing and characters, attention to detail coupled with smoothness and drive, elaborate backdrops and backgrounds, and live characters and animations, but you can be sure that you won’t watch the game of basketball because of the cameras here, it’s a shock + unbearable shock And if we talk about the rest of what is happening, then the soundtracks are a thrill, the performance of openings and endings is a tower, so much so that you just don’t want to squander all 50 episodes, which immediately sets you in a positive mood.To summarize, it was a little difficult to choose an estimate, after all, not my profile, but even for such a fool in sports, it is obvious that 8/10 is deserved, and then see for yourself. Definitely recommended for watching *, this is not another “time killer”, this story is not for weaklings or whiners, only the most persistent connoisseurs of “their dreams” survive here, which once again proves – never quit and do not give up, no matter what go to your goal / dream, your aspirations and efforts will definitely pay off, peace

Employee Reviews
Recently I posted a review of my experience with #WatcomGroup and came up with the idea to tell you about this experience. Not to get your moment of like-fame. And to know the truth about the company, those who may consider #Watcom as a potential place of work.
This is a story about me, Watcom and the fact that # dreams come true with him.
I came to Watcom on August 28, 2008. HR manager, two and a half weeks before the international economic crisis. My adaptation in the new environment of work with personnel urgently moved to the development of a plan of anti-crisis measures. When there were layoffs in companies across the country, we didn’t lose anyone; looking, trying, finding new ways to stay afloat. Even in difficult times, one of the pillars of Watcom’s creation is people, this is the true value – employees were given gifts for their birthday, their wedding, the birth of children, morally and financially supported in cases of loss of loved ones, helped in overcoming personal difficulties.March 29, 2010, a terrorist attack on the Lubyanka and the Park of Culture. The first words that Roman Skorokhodov (General Director), who entered the office, said at 09:00: “Are we all in place?” We called three people who had not yet approached. It was the first working day of the office manager, the very charming and hospitable that will meet you – her phone did not answer at 09:05, in summary: a place of residence in the North of the red line. Out of breath, disheveled and very embarrassed, she rushed into the office with the words: “Sorry for being late. Metro trains… I got there somehow. ” We were all there.
Another pillar of Watcom’s creation is that openness is inevitable. When it was difficult, largely due to the decline in sales among the company’s customers (people stopped shopping as actively), the management always went out to the employees and spoke openly about it, answered uncomfortable questions. This openness has another hypostasis – openness to suggestions, ideas of everyone. There is something to say about how something can be improved / changed, some kind of “Temka” came to mind – the leaders always found time and worked out together what could be done from this.If it were not for this principle, the company would not have been at the level of development that it has reached exclusively with its internal potential.
And the third pillar is development as a form of life. I came to the company as a HR manager, with the inspiration and support of the then head of the marketing department, persistent self-development and a true desire to “become the best version of myself”, I became the head of the organizational development department, and a couple of years later I moved with the same developmental step to the analytics and consulting department …The head of the marketing department, in turn, went through a multi-stage path to the Managing Partner of DataConsulting. Alexey Knyazev is one of those few people from my social circle who reads not just smart books and listens to courses. He is a creator in the guise of a manager, with an analytical brain and the gift of mentoring. Don’t miss the opportunity to get to know him when you come to work at Watcom.
Another self-development person is the current head of the marketing department, Kristina Kuznetsova. On my anniversary, I conducted a Skype interview with her, she auditioned for the position of a marketer at the company’s branch in St. Petersburg. I still remember those big eyes, from which Energy looks at me and the smile that leaves her face only when I talked about the general formalities. Her inner drive, coupled with progressive knowledge and charming character made her an irreplaceable part of the company’s management. She learned from the best! And also in Watcome there is Maria Vakatova, Natalia Knyazeva, Mikhail Vasiliev, whom you definitely need to get to know and be enchanted by the joy that will give you an acquaintance with them. And of course, Roman Skorokhodov and Andrey Klimov are talented, skillful sculptors-founders, filigree carving the company of their dreams. Trust them. Make your dreams come true with them.
…. These were the eight years of my life, until October 2016. Good, rich, useful, those that you want to leave in your memory while scrolling through the tape of your life. Why am I not there now, not with them, you ask reasonably? What happened? Life happened. Such is the ordinary life in which people have families, children and the need to move to another city. The work at Watcom ends, a good word about him remains.
Instead of cats, a photo from the Mall2009 exhibition. Looking back, it’s an eerie time – no one has money, only intentions to cope with the crisis and help others in this. I presented the same concept “Ambulance for your business” at Watcom. Instead of the design of the stand: just white tables, chairs, a rented medical screen and sheets of red velvet from Komus, from which I cut strips and glued a medical cross from them with double-sided tape over the stand. And she worked at the stand…. HR manager ?! Who needs a HR manager at the booth in the midst of a crisis. No, I was a nurse! Yes, I treated the guests of the stand with a short white robe, red manicure and a bottle of real alcohol (real or not, who knows, he knows 🙂
Those were the times! Alexey Knyazev, Zarina Gavrikova, Natalia Golovina who remembers?

Dressing room from California (TV series “Big Little Lies”)
This dressing room belongs to the owners of the house – Celeste and her husband, and their wardrobe items are neatly stored here. The creators of the series managed to make the dressing room not only functional, but also aesthetic. Everything is perfect in this room: neat lighting in niches for shoes, a leather pouf and a horn-stand for accessories. And in the center there is an island with bansai and additional storage sections.

Dressing room for lovers of the classics (film “The Trainee”)
A perfect example of how to organize the male part of the wardrobe. Sweaters, shirts and T-shirts are arranged by color on open shelves.Accessories take up the centerpiece, with an illuminated tie niche at the top and a morning get-up console at the bottom. Here the owner keeps a watch and an organizer for small things.

Kerry’s famous dressing room (TV series and film “Sex and the City”)
Kerry’s dressing room has changed with the character of the heroine. In the series, the room looked stylish, but there was not enough storage space in it: with each season there were more clothes and accessories, and we had to store things by hanging them on top of each other.
Still from the TV series “Sex and the City” The authors of the series: directors – Michael Patrick King, Allen Coulter, Michael Engler; scriptwriters – Candace Bushnell, Darren Star, Michael Patrick King; composers – Bob Christianson, Douglas J. Cuomo, Didier Rushu
In the film, Kerry’s dressing room became much larger: the room was divided into male and female halves. The zoning is not only actual, but also visual: the “male” zone is made in a dark color, the “female” – in a light one. In the new dressing room, perfect lighting was thought out – sufficient general light, interior lighting for cabinets and display cases with shoes. The designers did not forget about comfort: in the center of the room they placed a long ottoman (on which two people can fit at once), and a soft carpet was laid on the floor.

Cloakroom with a Secret (Kingsman: The Secret Service)
In the first Kingsman movie we see a spectacular dressing room made of natural wood. Here, every element is thought out to the smallest detail. Most of the items are hidden behind doors, but there are also transparent wardrobes that resemble the windows of expensive boutiques. In such a dressing room, it is important to maintain perfect order and carefully clean – this is required by an oak facade.

Light dressing room (film “A Simple Request”)
For luxurious outfits of one of the heroines, they provided no less beautiful dressing room: light and laconic with a large mirror and snow-white furniture.Pay attention – all the hangers in the wardrobes are the same – with wide and sloping shoulders. These hangers help keep your clothes in perfect shape. Shoes and bags are stored on open shelves, while accessories are stored in drawers.

Feedback exchange: Restart # 10 – BlogPier Cameron
Books of all genres are accepted. The minimum program is 5 chapters, or a prologue and 4 chapters. You can read more if you wish. Feedback should have been meaningful and constructive, not half a sentence. The work will have to be evaluated according to the following parameters:
1) The text itself. This item includes style, literacy and everything else.
2) Entourage, atmosphere, surrounding world. How clearly all this is shown and worked out.
3) The main characters. Than attracts and / or repels. Do they evoke any emotions.
4) Plot. You should evaluate it from your own bell tower, and not from the point of view of the target audience. Like / dislike. Intrigues / lulls. It is advisable to give justification not in two words.
The minimum program is as follows: the first reads the second, the second reads the third, etc. On top of that, everyone should select and comment on any other work from the list in the same way. Reading period – two weeks.
Recruitment takes place from Sunday to Tuesday. Authors who participated in the last marathon and completed the minimum program can re-apply without waiting for the end of the last exchanger.
During the application process, it is advisable, but not necessary, to indicate your preferences. Someone hates bent bendants, someone – domineering degenerates, and someone under no circumstances will read about homointeraction. So that you do not have to read something like that without fail, give us your preferences right away at the stage of application.
Freebies are not welcome here. If you managed to collect debts on other exchangers, and not only on mine, then do not be too surprised if the application is rejected. Do not meddle in exchange out of line – I will delete the messages anyway. It is not forbidden to change with authors whose books are not on the list, BUT such reviews will not be counted as additional. But what is forbidden is to exchange with debtors. So be careful.
List ready. And it is, to put it mildly, conditional.
1 – Quixotic time
2 – Snow White and the Dream Team
3 – Contrary to wishes
As a result, everyone reads everyone.
End of the marathon – April 20.
90,000 Reviews about the work of Stroytek
I would like to express my deep gratitude to Natalia Tumarova for her sensitive and not indifferent attitude towards clients. In my case, when signing the purchase and sale agreement, Natalya discovered the fact of incorrect formation of the interest rate on the mortgage from Sberbank and called the bank herself, achieved a rate revision, and as a result saved me a huge amount of money. The mortgage was closed ahead of schedule and a new one was opened. Thank you very much. I sincerely wish Stroytek to have more such employees from its ranks. Natasha, thank you!
We would like to express our gratitude to Natalya Alexandrovna Livanova for an exceptionally professional and responsible approach to work and, separately, for a human attitude. Throughout the cooperation, Natalia helped us with the choice of an apartment in the Rio-2 residential complex, but it was not easy, patiently offered and showed different options – we could not decide for a long time.In the course of the transaction, she quickly answered all the questions that arose, helped to resolve all the problems with the bank that arose. Natalia did the part of the work that depended on her very quickly and professionally. I was always in touch. And always with a smile and a good mood, it was very pleasant to communicate) Thank you very much for your help, we are glad that we came to you!
I would like to leave a separate comment on the excellent work of Natalia Tumarova. When I called to find out about the apartment, Natalya talked to me and I immediately wanted to see the layout, which I did.Further work was built quickly and very competently. An excellent specialist, I recommend.
Good afternoon. I want to leave a review with a million thanks. We got the keys to the Lcd Happiness. Just delight both from the house and from the apartment. Quality materials, primarily windows and entrance doors. Before that, they bought apartments from other developers, there is something to compare with. We lived before in the lcd Paris windows materials good installation awful. The entrance doors were also changed. Lcd happiness and doors and windows of excellent quality are a delight that will not need to be changed. The house itself decorates the halls very well and beautifully. The competent system of turning on the light in the common corridor using motion sensors and the UK also liked the principles, for example, human prices for security services, before that they paid many times more. Thank
Today 1.03.2021 hosted an apartment in RC Rio 2.
We read a lot of negativity and were tuned accordingly. In fact, they treated us friendly. At the acceptance of the apartment, defects were revealed:
1. The window on the loggia was not fixed
2.The swing-out door to the loggia had to be adjusted.
The head of the housing department quickly decided everything, within 30 minutes everything was corrected, their attitude towards us was very kind.
