How often should you replace your sports bra. What are the signs that your sports bra needs replacement. How should a sports bra fit properly. Which Nike sports bra is best for different activities.
The Importance of a Well-Fitting Sports Bra
A properly fitting sports bra is crucial for any woman engaging in physical activities. It provides essential support, reduces breast movement, and helps prevent discomfort and potential long-term damage. But how do you know when it’s time to replace your trusty sports bra?
Experts recommend replacing sports bras every few months or after approximately 30-40 washes. As a general rule, you should have three new sports bras for every pair of running shoes you own. This ensures you always have a supportive and effective bra for your workouts.
Signs It’s Time for a New Sports Bra
- Experiencing breast or back pain after running
- The bra band rides up your back, even on the tightest setting
- Chafing or digging in occurs during wear
- The fabric has lost its elasticity
- Visible wear and tear on the bra
Finding the Perfect Fit: Nike Sports Bra Sizing Guide
Achieving the right fit is essential for maximum comfort and support. Here’s how to ensure your Nike sports bra fits properly:
- The bra should fit snugly without restricting breathing
- Adjust the straps to ensure the back band is level all around your body
- You should be able to fit no more than one finger under the band
- The material should not pucker or wrinkle
Is sizing different between brands? Yes, each brand may have slight variations in sizing. When trying a new brand or style, it’s advisable to order multiple sizes to find the best fit for your body.

The Science Behind Nike’s Sports Bra Innovation
Nike’s commitment to sports bra innovation goes beyond simple design improvements. The company employs cutting-edge technology and extensive research to create products that truly meet women’s needs.
The Nike Test Kitchen
Nike’s “Test Kitchen” is a state-of-the-art facility where sports innovation comes to life. It’s here that senior research scientists like Bridget Munro conduct extensive testing on new products, including the Fe/Nom bra.
How does Nike test its sports bras? The process involves:
- Over 600 hours of rigorous testing
- High-speed camera capture at 30,000 frames per second
- Motion tracking using strategically placed dots on test subjects
- Creation of detailed body maps for sweat, heat, and movement
The Flyknit Technology in Sports Bras
Nike has applied its revolutionary Flyknit technology, originally developed for sneakers, to create innovative sports bras. But how does this technology translate to breast support?
The Fe/Nom bra, a product of this innovation, is a single-layer garment made of just two pieces. The challenge lies in incorporating all necessary support features into this minimalist design. Nike’s research team used the data collected from their extensive testing to inform how the bra is knit, ensuring optimal support and comfort.
Choosing the Right Nike Sports Bra for Your Activity
Different activities require different levels of support. Nike offers a range of sports bras designed for various impact levels:
Low Impact
Ideal for activities like yoga, pilates, or walking. These bras, like the Nike Swoosh Luxe, offer light support and maximum comfort.
Medium Impact
Suitable for activities such as cycling, weight training, or dance. The Nike Swoosh Icon Clash provides adequate support for these activities.
High Impact
Necessary for high-intensity activities like running, HIIT, or team sports. The Nike Impact and Nike Bold bras are designed to provide maximum support during these activities.
Care and Maintenance of Your Nike Sports Bra
Proper care can extend the life of your sports bra and maintain its supportive properties. Here are some tips:
- Wash your sports bra after every use to remove sweat and bacteria
- Use a gentle, cold water cycle and mild detergent
- Avoid fabric softeners, which can break down the bra’s elasticity
- Air dry your bra instead of using a dryer
- Replace your bra every 6-12 months, depending on usage
The Future of Sports Bra Technology
Nike continues to push the boundaries of sports bra technology. What can we expect in the future?
Smart Bras
The integration of smart technology into sports bras could revolutionize how we monitor our workouts. These bras might include sensors to track heart rate, breathing, and even posture.
Customization
Advancements in 3D printing and scanning technology could lead to fully customized sports bras, tailored to each individual’s unique body shape and support needs.
Sustainable Materials
As sustainability becomes increasingly important, we can expect to see more sports bras made from eco-friendly, recycled materials without compromising on performance.
Nike’s commitment to innovation in sports bra technology demonstrates the importance of proper support in women’s athletic performance. By combining cutting-edge research, advanced materials, and thoughtful design, Nike continues to create sports bras that meet the diverse needs of women athletes at all levels.
Whether you’re a professional athlete or a casual gym-goer, investing in a high-quality sports bra is crucial for your comfort, performance, and long-term breast health. With Nike’s wide range of options, you’re sure to find a sports bra that fits your body and supports your active lifestyle.
All of the best Nike sports bras in the sale
Experts recommend women change their sports bras every every few months, or after around 30-40 washes. As a rule of thumb, bra experts reckon you will need three new bras for every one pair of running shoes.
How do I tell when my bra isn’t supportive enough any more?
If you are experiencing breast or back pain after running, you’re finding the bra band riding up your back even on the tightest setting or your bra is chafing or digging in, it might be time to invest in a new sports bra. Like running shoes, every brand is slightly different when it comes to sizing, so it might be worth ordering multiple sizes to try on if you’re unsure.
How should a sports bra fit?
It should fit snugly, without being so tight that you can’t breathe. At a first glance, adjust the strap and ensure that the back band is at the same level all the way round your body – if the back band rides up, the bra is too big. You should be able to get no more than one finger under the band, and the material shouldn’t pucker. Read more about finding the right fit here.

Nike Debuts a Flyknit Bra—Does It Live Up to the Hype?
Of course, applying the science of sneakers to breasts requires some finessing. That’s where Bridget Munro, a senior research scientist in Nike’s Sport Research Lab, comes in—and where the shirtless joggers also come into play. That exercise was just one of many conducted in Nike’s “Test Kitchen,” a top-secret studio of sports innovation that’s something like a cross between the Batcave and an Olympic greenroom. There, Munro and a team did over 600 hours of testing on the Fe/Nom bra. They began by decorating a wide variety of women—athletes, nonprofessionals, small and large—with little dots and asked them to move in front of a camera that captures 30,000 frames per second. They also created a series of body maps—one for sweat, one for heat, and one for movement—that broke down women’s bodies into easily readable charts of what areas warrant what types of coverage.
These exercises produced a wellspring of data that informed how the Fe/Nom bra was knit. The biggest challenge: “In a single-layer product made of just two pieces, how do we build everything that we usually put into a 44-piece bra?” asked Munro. Let’s go bottom up: The band is thick and supportive, the cups feature knit tucks and darts to conform and compress your breasts, the neck is higher to prevent unwanted jiggles, and the straps have support and stretch knit right in. The back is the most flexible area—on the bra and on you—and the center of the bra, right at the sternum, is crocheted to allow for maximum breathability at your sweatiest point.
Unlike other garments, say jeans or T-shirts, the Fe/Nom bra is not made from a single pattern based on an ideal form that is then graded for size. Instead, each size has its own design, with different levels of stability, stretch, and dart placement. “That’s why knit has been so exciting,” says Munro. “We can do exact geometries where we feel we need those.” In graphic black and gray stripes, the bra is stylish to boot. Just look at the technical knit tops and skirts on Prada’s Resort runway or the motocross tops worn by the It crowd in street style photos and you’ll see that functional lines are very much having a moment.
With Prada catwalk visions in mind, I put one on and walked with Nike Master Trainer Betina Gozo to Nike’s Michael Johnson Track. The first thing I noticed was that no acts of contortion were required to get the bra on. Nike snowboarder Spencer O’Brien agrees. “The first time I wore the Nike Fe/Nom Flyknit Bra, I immediately noticed how easy it was to get on and off. So often when a sports bra is supportive it’s like having a wrestling match in the changing room,” she wrote. “With this bra, it felt like I was putting on a low-support bra but once it was on I was so supported and so comfortable.”
Nike Debuts First-Ever Flyknit Sports Bra: See More Here
Just yesterday we got a look at Nike Women’s Summer 2019 sneakers, and now we’re back to showcase a preview of Nike Women’s new summer apparel. Nike Women’s Summer 2019 includes a number of multifunctional capsules, in addition to performance-driven packs designed for functional movement.
“When a female athlete dresses, she wants a sense of freedom,” says Jessica Lomax, Design Director for NSW Women’s. “We wanted to create collections that take her through every part of her day, with no compromise to style or performance.”
The new Nike Women’s collection features a Tech Pack with reimagined running and training silhouettes in woven and engineered knits, a NSW capsule boasting a blend of street-inspired prints and materials, the Icon Clash collection for athletes who engage in multiple types of workouts, and a football-inspired range referencing football apparel from the Nike archive.
The standout from Nike Women’s Summer 2019 is the newly-introduced Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Bra.
“It is the most important piece of apparel for the active woman — a good one enables women to play sports, and sports can give women confidence in life,” says Janett Nichol, VP of Apparel Innovation, of the sports bra.
In addition to data, Nike has compiled athlete feedback to ensure its sports bras meet the demands of the female athlete. The Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Bra then takes Flyknit from the foot to the body for the first time, following more than 600 hours of biometric testing.
“The goal of the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Bra was maximum support and comfort that would allow women to feel and look amazing, while doing anything they choose,” explains Nicole Rendone, Design Director of Bras and Innovation. “We prioritized support, breathability and cooling in essential zones.”
Constructed from form-fitting nylon-spandex yarn, the bra features two single-layer panels coming together for a seamless feel. The garment also notes separate cups for each breast that hold the breasts to the body, eliminating the need for wires, pads, stabilizers and elastics. Consequently, Nike reveals that the FE/NOM Flyknit Bra is 30 percent lighter than any other bra in the brand’s arsenal.
Nike’s SS19 bra collection includes an expansive 57 styles across three support levels in sizes up to 44G, with three innovations and 12 different materials.
You can look forward to Nike Women’s Summer 2019 apparel, including the FE/NOM Flyknit Bra, launching throughout the summer.

Kourtney Kardashian finally shared her birthday celebration attire and it’s not what you would have guessed.
Taking to Instagram to show off a few moments from her 42nd birthday over the weekend, the Poosh founder unveiled a surprisingly casual day of events. For the occasion, Kourtney dressed down in a black sports bra matched to $30 Nike spandex shorts with sweet Mickie Mouse ears to tout.
Despite venturing outside, the media personality opted against wearing shoes and instead decided on supportive yoga-style socks. Low-impact workouts like barre, pilates or any form of yoga typically don’t require the use of shoes so these socks tend to include a grippier sole and a cross-foot strap; this allows the foot to find a natural balance on the group with a bit of added traction from the treaded bottoms. Unenow offers similar designs for just $13 at Amazon.

Earlier in the week, Kourtney used her sweatshirt to make a clear statement during a dinner outing with her oldest son Mason Disick.
The television personality stopped by Nobu Malibu on Monday in a graphic hoodie that read “Don’t Trust Anyone” with stabbing hand imagery. She then matched the bold piece to even bolder pants, complete with a sleek white fabric and peek-a-boo cutout front panels.
On her feet, the Poosh founder then completed her streetwear chic ensemble in lifted canvas sneakers. The black and white pair came complete with a platform midsole, leather cap toe and unique lacing system, all accented by an internal zipper. The design draws resemblance to brands like Rick Owens, Fear of God Essentials and Converse with its retro-chic finish.

As for Kourtney herself, the sleek sneakers last night are just one of the many chic designs in the reality TV personality‘s footwear rotation; her more dressed-up ensembles tend to include shoes from Balenciaga, Prada, Celine, Giuseppe Zanotti and, of course, her brother-in-law Kanye West’s Yeezy line. In addition to her Yeezy pairs, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star also favors sneakers from Veja for her workouts and from New Balance for her off-duty style.
Beyond fashion, the media mogul also created her own lifestyle brand Poosh in 2019, offering health tips, products to shop and a mix of stories online.
