How do you choose the right size lacrosse arm pads. What factors should you consider when sizing lacrosse arm guards. Which measurements are most important for proper lacrosse arm pad fit. How can you ensure optimal protection and mobility with lacrosse arm pads.
Understanding Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing: Key Factors to Consider
Proper sizing of lacrosse arm pads is crucial for both protection and performance on the field. Ill-fitting arm guards can leave players vulnerable to injury or hinder their mobility and stick skills. To ensure you select the right size, several key factors must be taken into account:
- Arm circumference
- Arm length
- Player position
- Personal preference for coverage and mobility
- Brand-specific sizing variations
Are arm circumference measurements alone sufficient for sizing lacrosse arm pads? While arm circumference is a primary factor, it’s not the only consideration. Arm length and player position also play significant roles in determining the ideal fit and coverage.
Measuring for Lacrosse Arm Pads: Step-by-Step Guide
To accurately size lacrosse arm pads, follow these steps:
- Measure arm circumference at the bicep, forearm, and elbow
- Measure arm length from shoulder to wrist
- Consult brand-specific sizing charts
- Consider your playing position and style
- Try on pads if possible before purchasing
Is it necessary to measure both arms for lacrosse arm pad sizing? While most players have similar measurements on both arms, it’s advisable to measure both to account for any potential differences and ensure a symmetrical fit.
Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing Charts: Decoding the Numbers
Lacrosse arm pad sizing charts can vary by brand, but generally follow similar principles. Here’s a breakdown of a typical sizing chart:
Size | Arm Circumference (inches) | Arm Length (inches) |
---|---|---|
Small | 8-10 | 13-15 |
Medium | 10-12 | 15-17 |
Large | 12-14 | 17-19 |
X-Large | 14+ | 19+ |
Do all lacrosse brands use the same sizing chart for arm pads? No, sizing can vary between brands. It’s essential to consult the specific chart for the brand you’re considering and, when possible, try on pads before purchasing.
Position-Specific Considerations for Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing
Different positions in lacrosse often require varying levels of protection and mobility. Here’s a breakdown of position-specific considerations:
Attackmen and Midfielders
These players typically prefer lighter, more flexible arm pads that allow for greater range of motion and stick skills. They may opt for smaller sizes or models with less coverage.
Defensemen
Defensive players often choose larger, more protective arm pads to withstand checks and collisions. They may size up or select models with extended coverage.
Goalies
Goalkeepers require specialized arm protection that allows for quick reactions and saves. They often use arm pads designed specifically for the position.
Should youth players always choose the largest arm pads available for maximum protection? Not necessarily. While protection is crucial, overly large pads can impede movement and skill development. It’s important to find a balance between protection and mobility, especially for younger players still developing their techniques.
Common Mistakes in Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing and How to Avoid Them
Several common errors can lead to poorly fitting lacrosse arm pads:
- Choosing based solely on age or general size
- Neglecting to measure properly
- Ignoring brand-specific sizing variations
- Prioritizing appearance over function
- Failing to consider growth potential for youth players
How can players avoid these sizing mistakes? The key is to take accurate measurements, consult brand-specific charts, consider your playing position, and prioritize function over aesthetics. For youth players, it’s also wise to factor in potential growth when selecting arm pad size.
Adjusting and Customizing Lacrosse Arm Pads for Optimal Fit
Even with proper sizing, some adjustments may be necessary to achieve the perfect fit:
- Use adjustable straps to fine-tune tightness
- Experiment with wearing arm pads over or under jerseys
- Consider adding or removing padding for personalized comfort
- Rotate pads slightly to align with natural arm position during play
Can lacrosse arm pads be customized for a more personalized fit? Many modern arm pads offer customization options, such as removable padding or adjustable straps. Some players also work with equipment specialists to modify pads for unique needs or preferences.
The Impact of Proper Arm Pad Sizing on Performance and Safety
Correctly sized lacrosse arm pads can significantly impact a player’s performance and safety on the field. Benefits include:
- Enhanced protection against checks and collisions
- Improved mobility and range of motion
- Better stick control and handling
- Reduced risk of arm injuries
- Increased confidence in physical play
Does wearing properly sized arm pads guarantee injury prevention in lacrosse? While proper sizing significantly reduces injury risk, it doesn’t provide absolute protection. Players should still follow proper techniques, rules, and safety guidelines to minimize the chance of injury during play.
Maintaining and Replacing Lacrosse Arm Pads: When Size Matters
Proper maintenance can extend the life of lacrosse arm pads, but eventually, replacement will be necessary. Signs that it’s time for new arm pads include:
- Visible wear and tear on padding or straps
- Decreased protective capabilities
- Changes in player size or position
- Odor that persists despite cleaning
- Outdated technology compared to newer models
How often should lacrosse arm pads be replaced? The frequency of replacement depends on factors such as usage, maintenance, and player growth. On average, competitive players may need to replace arm pads every 1-2 seasons, while recreational players might extend use to 2-3 seasons with proper care.
Innovative Technologies in Lacrosse Arm Pad Design and Sizing
The lacrosse equipment industry continues to evolve, with new technologies enhancing arm pad design and sizing:
- 3D-printed custom fits
- Advanced impact-absorbing materials
- Breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics
- Flexible, articulated designs for improved mobility
- Smart sensors for impact monitoring and performance tracking
Will future lacrosse arm pads adapt to player size automatically? While current technology doesn’t allow for automatic size adaptation, some manufacturers are exploring concepts like adjustable air chambers or shape-memory materials that could provide more dynamic sizing options in the future.
Expert Tips for Selecting the Perfect Lacrosse Arm Pads
To ensure you choose the best-fitting lacrosse arm pads, consider these expert recommendations:
- Consult with coaches or experienced players for brand and model suggestions
- Visit specialty lacrosse retailers for professional fitting assistance
- Read user reviews and product comparisons from reputable sources
- Consider trying multiple brands and styles before making a final decision
- Factor in your playing style, position, and level of competition when selecting arm pads
Is it worth investing in high-end lacrosse arm pads for recreational play? While recreational players may not require top-of-the-line models, investing in quality arm pads that fit well can enhance enjoyment of the game and provide better protection. Balance your budget with your commitment to the sport and desire for performance features.
Adapting Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing for Different Climate Conditions
Climate can affect the fit and performance of lacrosse arm pads. Consider these factors when sizing and selecting arm guards for various weather conditions:
- Hot weather: Look for breathable materials and ventilation features
- Cold weather: Consider slightly larger sizes to accommodate under-layers
- Wet conditions: Choose water-resistant or quick-drying materials
- Indoor play: Opt for lightweight, flexible designs for faster-paced games
Should players have multiple sets of arm pads for different weather conditions? While not essential, having arm pads suited for various climates can enhance comfort and performance. At minimum, players should be prepared to adjust their existing arm pads for different weather scenarios.
The Role of Arm Pad Sizing in Player Development and Skill Progression
Proper arm pad sizing plays a crucial role in player development, particularly for young athletes. Well-fitted arm guards can:
- Promote proper form and technique
- Encourage confident and aggressive play
- Allow for natural skill progression
- Minimize distractions and discomfort during practice and games
- Foster a positive association with protective equipment
How does arm pad sizing impact a player’s stick skills? Properly sized arm pads allow for full range of motion and minimize interference with stick handling. This enables players to develop their skills naturally without compensating for ill-fitting equipment.
Comparing Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing Across Age Groups and Skill Levels
Arm pad sizing considerations can vary significantly across different age groups and skill levels:
Youth Players
Focus on comfort, adjustability, and room for growth. Slightly larger sizes may be appropriate to accommodate development.
High School Players
Balance protection and mobility. Position-specific sizing becomes more important at this level.
College and Professional Players
Prioritize performance and customization. Precise sizing and advanced features are crucial for high-level play.
Do professional lacrosse players use different sizing criteria for arm pads? While the basic principles remain the same, pro players often have access to custom-fitted equipment and may prioritize specific performance features over general sizing guidelines.
International Variations in Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing Standards
As lacrosse continues to grow globally, some variations in arm pad sizing standards have emerged:
- North American sizing tends to offer more options and specificity
- European brands may use different measurement units or size categories
- Some international manufacturers focus on adjustable, one-size-fits-most designs
- Certain countries have specific equipment regulations that impact sizing options
Are international lacrosse arm pad sizes compatible with North American standards? While there is some overlap, it’s essential to consult specific sizing charts when purchasing arm pads from international brands. Some conversion may be necessary to ensure proper fit.
The Future of Lacrosse Arm Pad Sizing: Trends and Predictions
As lacrosse equipment technology advances, several trends are emerging in arm pad sizing and design:
- Increased use of 3D body scanning for precise measurements
- Development of more position-specific arm pad models
- Integration of smart fabrics for adaptive fit and performance monitoring
- Greater emphasis on sustainable and eco-friendly materials
- Exploration of biometric data to optimize sizing and protection
Will virtual reality play a role in future lacrosse arm pad sizing and selection? As VR technology improves, it’s possible that players may be able to virtually try on and test arm pads before purchase, allowing for more accurate sizing and selection without the need for physical inventory.
In conclusion, proper sizing of lacrosse arm pads is a critical aspect of player equipment that directly impacts both safety and performance on the field. By understanding the key factors involved in arm pad sizing, following accurate measurement techniques, and considering position-specific needs, players can ensure they select the optimal protection for their game. As lacrosse equipment technology continues to evolve, staying informed about the latest innovations and sizing trends will help players at all levels maximize their potential and enjoyment of the sport.

How to Properly Fit Football Shoulder Pads
A player from the 2018 World Bowl tries on a pair of the Xenith VELOCITY Shoulder Pads
Proper fitting shoulder pads are essential to athlete protection and performance in the game of football. Whether taking a hit or delivering one of your own, shoulder pads make all the difference in a game of inches. When shoulder pads fit properly, they should feel snug and protective, while at the same time allowing full range of motion for maximum comfort and mobility on the field. With modern shoulder pads often available in position-specific styles, achieving the perfect fit for your position and playing style is imperative to compete at a high level.
Clearly, shoulder pads are a cornerstone piece of football equipment for any player, but how do they actually work?
Shoulder pads protect players by absorbing some of the energy of an impact through deformation of the exterior shell, while at the same time distributing the energy through a larger area so there is less pressure at the point of impact. The weight of the shoulder pads and level of protection often varies by position group. Linemen often opt for styles that benefit their technical responsibilities, like getting their hands on a linebacker or kick-stepping to pass block a defender. On the other hand, skill players usually go for a more flexible, mobile style of padding to allow them to move swiftly and gracefully all over the field. See the tips below to make sure you have the perfect shoulder pad fit to excel on the field.

How to Properly fit Xenith Shoulder Pads
Although varying by model to fit specific needs of positions or body styles, the entire lineup of Xenith Shoulder Pads is lightweight and low profile, allowing for a full range of motion without sacrificing protection.
In order to ensure the perfect fit, it’s important to know how to accurately measure for the shoulder pads.
Using a measuring tape, measure the width of a player’s back from the edge of the left shoulder to the edge of the right shoulder, as shown in the graphic below. Make sure the measuring tape is as flat to the back as possible. Then consult the sizing chart below.
Youth
Varsity
When you receive your online order of Xenith Shoulder Pads or have the opportunity to try them on for yourself at a Dick’s Sporting Goods near you, there are a few steps to ensure proper fit and maximum protection.
First Steps:
1. Slide the hole in the middle of the pads over your head so that the pads rest on top of your shoulders.
2. Tighten both buckle belt straps. These should feel snug and secure but should not be painful in any areas.
Next, there are 3 main fit tips for fitting football shoulder pads:
1. Hinge of shoulder caps should align with the AC joint (directly above underarm).
2. Front Arch should fully cover sternum and front of the shoulders.
3. Rear Arch should fully cover scapula without limiting range of motion in the arms.
The Xenith Shoulder Pad lineup features a range of benefits for both varsity and youth players:
Unrestricted Movement
The low-profile shoulder and sternum plates allow for complete range of motion.
Lightweight build
Injection molded plates provide the protection athletes need without sacrificing speed and agility.
Flexible Padding
Strategically placed pads allow for unrestricted movement on the field
Low-Profile Silhouette
Double shoulder caps made of high impact foam provide increased protection and contour to the body for a sleek look.

How to choose the best lacrosse shoulder pads
The lacrosse shoulder pads come with diverse features and knowing them will make it easy for you to make the selection.
Strapping system:
To be competitive and efficient, manufacturers offer different strapping systems but the most common is the use of the Velcro and the plastic buckles. Many shoulder pads are the combination of both while some exclusively use each. Velcro may seem comfortable but lose adhesiveness with time; on the other hand, buckles keep your pads intact for long but don’t give the tighter feel like Velcro if the size selection is wrong.
Flexibility:
Many shoulder pads are flexible enough to copy the movement of the rib cage when the player breathes. They expand when you inhale but they come with higher prices as they cover the whole rib cage and offer enhanced protection. However, that is not the optimal selection only. Any shoulder pad would do when it covers your chest cavity but also helps you to breathe without hindrance.
Protection system:
The shoulder pad should be the complete package to cover the torso from any injury during the game. Lacrosse is a dangerous sport and the high-speed impact can greatly affect the heart. Thus, the pads that come with the air bladder or a sternum plate are highly recommended to protect the heart.
Further, there are also many shoulder pads that offer protection to the spine plate as well to protect your spine during the game. Many also have elbow pads as well that can be attached or detached as per the player’s need.
Playing Level and Style:
Advanced players like to go for liners mostly as they fit perfectly and protect the sternum and collar bone region without adding the bulk of shoulder and arm padding. They choose it because they know the game really well. The defense and middie players also go for it. On the contrary, heavy padding is the choice of the advancing players as well as offensive players. But those who want to remain protected use the heavy padding even when they reach the pro levels. All in all, it is the personal choice of the player to select the one that suits him the best.

9 Best Lacrosse Shoulder Pads & Liners (2021)
Full Lacrosse Shoulder Pads vs. Liners
We want to dive a bit more into the differences between liners and full pads so you can determine which is best for you. I imagine this question popped up for those newer to the sport as they went through the list above.
Liners
We’ll start with liners. Liners are scaled back versions of full shoulder pads. In comparison, a liner lacks the shoulder capping and upper arm attachments that make their full counterparts a bit more hefty but a lot more protective around the shoulder and arms.
You’ll notice many liners appear to just be the central component of a larger full pad model, and that’s because THAT is exactly what they are.
Liners provide necessary coverage to vital regions around your chest and back that tend to be in harm’s way across the board.
Liners are a great option of defensemen as they really do not require the added clunkiness of shoulder caps and upper arm pads. Middies may also look to liners over pads as they tend to be less intrusive to play overall and much lighter/more streamlined in comparison.
If you are purchasing pads for a youth player, we advise not purchasing a liner. The lack of true physical control in the youth game makes full pads a much safer option for your young laxer, and also gives them the flexibility to explore every field position safely as they grow into the game.
Shoulder Pads
Moving onto full shoulder pads. Full models tend to provide more customizable options for coverage based on your preference/style of play. Many full shoulder pads provide detachable pads at the upper arm and shoulder that can be stripped away as you grow more comfortable on the field or move primarily into a position where such coverage is not a priority.
Full pads are the best option for attacking players, especially those primary attackmen around the cage. Wayward checks from poles and desperate middies have a tendency to not land where intended, so the extra padding along the shoulders and arms will be very much appreciated.
Full pads may also be a great option for newer middies who may be trying to get comfortable in the position. The added protection they provide will give you confidence diving in for ground balls until you’re ready to yank away the extra padding.
Finding Shoulder Pads That Meet the NOCSAE ND200 Standard
In an important move for player safety, US Lacrosse is requiring all shoulder pads and liners to meet NOCSAE ND200 standards at all levels of the sport beginning in 2022. This standard is not a design change but solely a measurement of protection in the effort to reduce impact forces that heighten the risk of commotio cordis (cardiac arrest due to a blow to the heart area).
ND200 compliant products are certified by the Safety Equipment Institute and should include the NOCSAE Lacrosse label on the tag. You should also look for this label on the packaging of any shoulder pad or liner you purchase.
Beginning on January 1, 2022, if your shoulder pads do not meet the ND200 standard and bear the tagging to indicate compliance, you will not be allowed to take the field. So, if you’re planning to take the field in ten months plus change, you may want to start upgrading your shoulder pads now.
Lacrosse Shoulder Pad Buying Guide
With the changing lacrosse shoulder pad safety standard, manufacturers are still playing catchup to increase the number of options that meet the 2022 rule change. Over the next year, we expect a lot of new shoulder pads to hit the market.
While we will keep this guide updated as new shoulder pads come out, here are some things you should look for if you want to figure out how good a pair is on your own.
1) Protection
It goes without saying, protection is why you buy lacrosse shoulder pads. You want to navigate every facet of the game with the peace of mind that you are protected, whether it be your ribs, shoulders or chest.
This isn’t football, so why do we need shoulder pads you may be asking? Well, if you’ve ever taken a 50/50 ball on the ground, you’ve no doubt heard the clash of shoulder pads that comes with it.
Beyond man on man contact, if you’ve ever been caught between the net and a shot happy attackman, you know the importance of cushioning to withstand the potential blow of a wayward shot.
Conversely, you’ll be thanking your lucky stars for the protection as a short stick that is the unenviable recipient of long pole slash to the shoulder blade.
2) Comfort & Flexibility
Always number two on our lists but never in our hearts, comfort and flexibility are hugely important things to consider second to protection. There is nothing worse than a clunky set of pads to weigh you down on the field that don’t even fit right.
You should keep an eye out for things like anaform plating and foam cushioning at areas more prone to intense shifting, such as around your arms and ribs. Padding that matches your movement rather than constricting it is key.
The shoulder joint is another key area to keep an eye on—at least one of the pads on our list had a noted rigidity around the shoulder that was intrusive to overhand shots. This is something to keep in mind depending upon the type of play you normally find yourself in.
Lastly, customizability goes hand in hand with comfort. Look for pads that provide secure detachable options and plenty of tightening points at key tether areas, such as your waist and chest, to ensure a secure fit. There’s nothing worse than loose pads playing the bongos on your chest while you’re sprinting down the field.
3) Durability
It goes without saying that you want your money’s worth when you invest in shoulder pads, so durability is key to longevity. You’re already splurging to keep up with safety standards so better to go all in on a product that will last.
The primary marker of durability is of course the product itself. Just visually analyzing a pad can pinpoint some key vulnerabilities such as faulty Velcro work or overexposure of seams. As a rule of thumb, clasps tend to be better than Velcro, and less stitching is always best.
Keep an eye on the detachable elements as well. Connecting points on full pads have a tendency to be less than secure as users drag on, so do your due diligence and see what other users say about the product.
Another good marker is the brand name and price of course. We all know the trusted/our preferred outfits when it comes to gear, so go with your gut and a company that’s built your trust over the seasons.
Price is the other side of the coin—the more expensive, the better the quality of material and the more durable it should be. Both of these elements are not hard and fast rules but worth keeping in consideration.
4) Breathability
There’s nothing worse than shoulder pads turning into a twenty-pound weighted vest halfway through a game cause it’s soaked up your sweat like a sponge.
Look for pads that promote breathability with built-in ventilation to the design that keeps air recycled close to your body and prioritizes coolness and dryness. Moisture wicking fabric liners are also key—anything that moves your sweat without absorbing it.
Others will also thank you for keeping in mind the above cause, like arm pads and gloves, shoulder pads are one of the main culprits of lax funk on and off the field.
5) Customer Reviews
Customer reviews are worth major consideration before you splurge on shoulder pads. Keep in mind, there may be a bit of gap in the feedback on ND200 compliant products given they are just making it to the market.
Still, do your due diligence and seek out every website and resource you can for some first hand input on how any of the above four elements are for a given product. Other users can provide actual feedback to the wear and performance of a shoulder pad.
Additionally, reviews can be helpful in finding out any quirks to a pad’s fit or the buying process. Such feedback can be helpful in avoiding the pitfalls that may have ensnared other customers.
And don’t forget to leave your own review for whatever pad or liner you choose—it’s always good practice to pay it forward.
6) Budget
Find something that fits your budget…this is easier said than done when it comes to an investment like shoulder pads but it’s still worthy of consideration.
With gear such as shoulder pads though, it may be better to stick to as high a price point as you can afford – such protection isn’t an area where you want to cut corners. Still, if you go with a cheaper option, keep in mind that you may be giving up certain benefits on the field and in the longevity of the product.
Unfortunately, with the upgrade to compliance, sales for shoulder pads may be few and far between. As a silver lining though, pad options that were already compliant in 2020 may still be overstocked given the wash of that season for much of the country, so be on the lookout for some deals as we move closer to Spring.
Lacrosse Shoulder Pad Size Chart
Here’s a general shoulder pad size chart to consider when it comes to finding a pair that best fits you or your young laxer. Please keep in mind that certain company sizes may run bigger or smaller, so best to consult their own size charts before making a purchase.

Registration for the 2021 spring season is now open. Registration will remain open through February 19th. After February 19th, a late fee will be assessed.
While the COVID landscape is fluid and subject to change, we fully expect to have a spring lacrosse season starting in early April and wrapping up in early to mid-June. This will include diligently following all state and local protocols, limited masked and socially distanced spectators, and players and coaches wearing masks.
Our league’s current plan is to create a “Massachusetts teams only” game schedule where our teams will stay in-state and play against nearby programs. As we learn more about the season game plan and structure, we will share details as they become available.
While we don’t expect this, if COVID restrictions were to tighten and we are unable to have a spring season, we will refund registration fees like we did last year.
Please read the below registration details and instructions:
BANTAM (3rd and 4th grade), JUNIOR (5th and 6th), and SENIOR (7th and 8th) registration fee is $200. Registration fee includes a full uniform (reversible tank top jersey and shorts) that your player will keep. The two-player family maximum fee is $350. The multiple player family maximum fee is $390. Late fees ($50 for returning players, $25 for new players) will be assessed after February 19th.
Important: when you register online, you will be asked to provide a jersey size and short size. Please use the below Sizing Chart when making your selections. If your player registered last year, please also have your player try on last year’s uniform to help you make this year’s size selections. We will not have in-person sizing this year.
When registration closes, we place our uniform order for the season. If you decide to cancel your player’s registration after February 19th, you will be refunded your registration fee minus the uniform cost of $50 per player.
MITES (Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade) registration fee is $60. Mites registration includes a reversible one-size-fits-all practice pinny. Prior sizing is not offered/required.
For all levels, parents are responsible for all player equipment: stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, protective cup, mouth guard, and COVID mask.

90,000 Eternal Students: A History of Preppy Style
The first post-war decades of the middle of the last century gave the world a lot of new things: music, cinema, literature, architecture and many other achievements, the catalyst of which is the youth for the first time. In Great Britain, after the economically difficult fifties, a new, much more successful period begins, in the center of which is a new generation.
The desire of the youth of the sixties to create new meanings that have nothing to do with the past leads to the emergence of many youth movements that had a huge impact on the culture of the second half of the twentieth century. This phenomenon was based on a rebellion against centuries-old foundations: young people did not want to listen to the music and watch the movies that their parents listened to and watched, and most importantly, they simply did not want to look the same.
At the same time, on the other side of the Atlantic, another subculture is going through a golden period, strikingly different from any of the British: firstly, for many years it really was elitist and completely closed to outsiders (to enter this circle of the elect, it is not enough to understand music well enough, to be able to dance or acquire fashionable clothes – all this was pointless if you did not belong to a certain class), and secondly, it was not so much a subculture as a lifestyle based not on rebellion against traditional foundations, but, on the contrary, on following them in everything, from worldview to appearance. And there was no need for a group of young Americans to rebel, for one simple reason – they already had everything they needed and even more.
|
|
|
The history of the mysterious subculture begins earlier than one could imagine. On April 23, 1635, the Boston Latin School, the first public educational institution in the United States, opens in Boston. Created on the basis of the educational institution of the same name, located in British Lincolnshire, the school focused on the descendants of the Boston elite.Day after day, the offspring of wealthy families studied basic disciplines – the Bible, Latin and classical literature. Establishing the standards of elite education in a young state, the school has trained several hundred prominent political figures, including Benjamin Franklin, Joseph Patrick Kennedy, John Francis Fitzgerald and many others, and it operates successfully to this day.
By the beginning of the 20th century, the number of elite educational institutions in the United States increased tenfold; the most famous of them were seven universities located in the Northeast of the country: Brown, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Pennsylvania and Princeton universities, as well as Dartmouth College – all of them united in the so-called “Ivy League” (eng.Ivy league), which has become a symbol of American education and a synonym for success – “The American Dream”.
Initially, the term Ivy league was used exclusively in a sports context: as you know, student sports are an integral part of American higher education, but since the middle of the 20th century, other aspects of the life of eight elite educational institutions have become associated with the Ivy League. The very fact of the origin of this term is also interesting: there are several rather funny legends about it, like a slip of a sports journalist sent by the editors to cover a boring football match between the teams of Columbia and Pennsylvania universities, but the most plausible version is ivy that adorns the walls of all universities, which gave the name to the sports community.
|
|
|
One of the symbols that distinguished the Ivy League students from the rest was their uniform: classic blazers with the school’s logo printed on the chest and sports sweaters with the same logo or with the first letter of the university name patch.Since the beginning of the 20th century, this uniform has become a subject of special pride for closed student communities, and it was she who laid the foundation for the first elite American subculture, in the center of which was the youth from the upper strata of society.
The American clothing brands J.Press and Brooks Brothers were the first to appreciate the incredible commercial potential of the educational uniform, which opened stores right on the campuses of Yale, Princeton and Harvard universities. The models presented there, on the one hand, completely shared the strict requirements for the appearance of students by the leadership of educational institutions, and on the other, they did not look boring and monotonous, because the puritanical style of clothing is the last thing that young representatives of influential American families would like be like your parents.
The marketers’ calculations turned out to be correct, and the clothes of both brands immediately became very popular, first among students of three universities, and then the style, which is a mixture of timeless classics and modern bright details, spread to the entire Ivy League, having received the corresponding name – Ivy style. But a little more time passed, and new trends in the fashion of students of elite universities, and the entire student subculture as a whole began to be designated by a different, more capacious term.In accordance with educational standards, all future Ivy League students had to complete special preparatory courses – preparatory schools, the students of these courses were called preppy (Russian “preppy”): this is how the student subculture got its name.
|
|
|
|
|
|
So who was the typical preppy? This is a young man or girl, a representative of a successful American family, heir to a business empire or an influential political clan. Noble origin and belonging to an elite educational institution left an imprint on the appearance and manners of each student: the relaxation inherent in the offspring of wealthy families complemented the deliberate politeness in communication with others, perfectly ironed clothes and neat hairstyles.With all their appearance, preppy personified a focus on success and well-being, because a higher education diploma in itself was a pass to the world of a successful future. In their free time, preppy went to parties, played sports (primarily horse riding, American football, polo, rowing, sailing, baseball or lacrosse) and rested on the Florida coast (local Palm Beach became one of the symbols of preppy holidays – another important part of the student life style). But the main external sign of the subculture has become the style of clothing, which is worth dwelling on in more detail.
The preppy wardrobe fully meets the philosophy of the subculture as a whole: based on the classical traditions of the style of British dandies, it is, nevertheless, maximally adapted to the active pastime characteristic of a young man. One of the main rules was the high quality of clothing – unspoken laws prescribed to wear only products made from premium fabrics – high-quality cotton, wool and cashmere. At the center of any preppy wardrobe was the already mentioned fitted blazer with or without the university logo; in the warm season it could be cotton, in the cold season it could be made of fine wool or tweed.Student blazers differed from the canonical strict jackets in bright details, for example, lining with a tartan cage, loops sewn with contrasting threads, a little less often – gold buttons and elegant pocket squares.
|
|
|
The requirements for outerwear were also high: if in the summer or during the demi-season it was possible to limit ourselves to a blazer or a mac, then in autumn and winter, models borrowed from British gentlemen became full-fledged style attributes – waxed cotton jackets, quilted windbreakers and classic duffle coats, or woolen double-breasted pea coats.In especially cold weather, the image was complemented by quilted or woolen vests worn under a jacket, and accessories – striped wool scarves or tartan cages and caps.
|
No less requirements were imposed on knitwear: for example, it was in the preppy environment that V-necks were first spread – jumpers with a V-neck, made of cotton, wool or cashmere.Jumpers have almost always been paired with button-down shirts made of thick Oxford cotton – another style hallmark. On student days, the exemplary preppy wore shirts in calm white or blue shades, in a more relaxed atmosphere, preferring models in a cage or strip (one of the most popular prints was Ithaca stripe – blue vertical stripes on a white background). Like young men, girls preferred the same button-down oxford shirts, sometimes replacing them with silk blouses.
A less conservative alternative to the austere jumper is thick wool cardigans and U-neck sweaters adorned with an argyle print, a pattern of many diamonds or squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern.
|
|
|
Trousers were the most versatile part of the wardrobe: classic trousers with arrows made of fine wool or chinos were taken as a basis, the shade of which was selected depending on the situation: beige or dark blue – for school days and red, blue, yellow or even pink – for an active pastime.On hot summer days, trousers were replaced by knee-length shorts in the same colors. Women’s wardrobe differed from men’s in the presence of woolen and cotton dresses and knee-length skirts.
Nowadays it is customary to associate jeans with preppy style, but it is important to note that they appeared in everyday preppy wardrobes much later: even in the middle of the last century, denim trousers were associated with working class uniforms with a corresponding attitude towards them from the elite …
|
|
The choice of footwear was completely consistent with the age-old traditions of style: derby and oxfords for formal occasions; brogues, loafers, moccasins and topsides for days off from official events; loafers or mid-heeled shoes for girls.And if derby or oxford shoes in the preppy wardrobe did not cause any questions, then loafers and topsides (aka boat shoes) became permanent attributes of men’s style far beyond the campuses of the “Ivy League” precisely due to the popularization of preppy in the second half of the 20th century.
The autumn-winter preppy-look was unthinkable without duck boots – high boots with a rubberized lower part and a leather upper that migrated to the shoe shelves of diligent Harvard students straight from the equipment of fishermen and hunters.”Duck Boots” got their nickname because of the rubber capes, which clearly resemble a duck’s beak. At first glance, these shoes looked funny, but, nevertheless, they went well with woolen trousers and a warm jacket and were suitable for walking around the city in the slush or traveling through family lands.
|
|
|
The preppy sports wardrobe deserves a separate story: models designed for sports have long become a part of the everyday life of students of elite universities; polo shirts, school rugby shirts, sweatshirts and cotton tennis shoes have been successfully paired with blazers, chinos and oxford shirts long before world designers drew attention to the comfort and style of sportswear.In fairness, it is worth noting that even the highest government officials played a significant role in popularizing sports style in the United States: for example, President Dwight Eisenhower, caught in the lens of tabloids in a polo shirt playing golf in 1951, and John F. Kennedy, who replaced him in the White House – recognized icon of preppy style.
The Varsity Jacket, a demi-season bomber with a wool base and contrasting color sleeves made of genuine leather, can be called the embodiment of a preppy sports wardrobe.This jacket had a button fastening, a characteristic edging of the collar and waist elastic bands, and was supplied with all kinds of patches with university symbols. Another name for this famous jacket – Letterman Jacket – goes back to the old American tradition of the Harvard baseball team: since 1865, the uniforms of the best Harvard baseball players have been decorated with insignia in the form of a capital H. Gradually, this practice was adopted by other universities and “lettermans” to name those who deserve the high honor to wear the university “letter” (eng.letter).

|
|
At the turn of the Fifties and Sixties, with the development of information sources in general and the fashionable press in particular, it became obvious that the youth will be the driving force in the fashion and culture of the new era.Many designers of that period drew attention to the tastes of students of elite American educational institutions: this stage should be considered the starting point in the worldwide popularization of the preppy style.
In 1965, Take Ivy by four local fashion enthusiasts – Shosuke Ishizu, Toshiyuke Kurosu, Hajime Hagisawa and photographer Teruyoshi Hayashida – appeared in several Tokyo stores located in the trendy Ginza district. To write the book, young Japanese people spent several months on elite university campuses in the northeastern United States, describing everyday student life and eventually creating an ideal and most complete illustrated preppy-style encyclopedia even after half a century, officially recognized even at home: The New York Times called Take Ivy is a “treasure trove of fashion insiders”.The publication of the book, which immediately became a bestseller, marked the beginning of the fascination with American student culture of tens of thousands of Japanese teenagers.
|
|
|
A few years earlier, the preppy culture had reached the shores of foggy Albion, and the easiest way would have been to assume that the bright everyday style conquered students of conservative British educational institutions, but in reality everything turned out to be completely different …
The first American Ivy league-style clothing stores appeared in London in the early 1960s, which could not go unnoticed by hundreds of young Londoners who identified themselves as gaining popularity in fashion culture – regulars of parties and record stores with fresh vinyl.Despite the fact that the elite American educational institutions were as far away from the young representatives of the British working class as the English beaches of Brighton are for members of the closed elite campuses of the northeastern United States, there was nothing surprising in such an expansion: in clothes, as well as in music, fashion focused on the best. Dandyism was no less characteristic of them, and fitted blazers, button-down shirts, chinos, classic shoes and, of course, polo shirts became a true symbol of the fashion movement and subsequent youth subcultures of the second half of the decade.

|
With the entry of fashion culture into the mainstream, demand for Ivy style grew exponentially, and stores, which became an affordable alternative to boutiques on Savile Row for London’s youth, grew more and more every month. One of them still works in the Covent Garden area, and its owner, venerable dandy John Simons, still prefers to serve customers himself, talking about the times when the car of mod icon Paul Weller parked right at the entrance to the store at least several times. per month.

In the Seventies, the popularization of the preppy style in America reached a new level: New York designer Ralph Lifshitz, who by that time already bore the pseudonym Ralph Lauren, played an important role here. It was with the light hand of an enterprising couturier, who took the lifestyle of the American elite as a basis, that the expansion of the clothing style that was once available to units has acquired a global scale.At the same time, Arthur Hillier’s film “A Love Story” was released, which tells the story of the relationship between a Harvard graduate and a girl from the working class. Ryan O’Neill’s wardrobe is a visual encyclopedia of the style of an elite university graduate.
The ironic book The Official Preppy Handbook, published in 1980 by the journalist and fashion historian Lisa Birnbach, only confirmed what had become obvious by that time: the preppy style is now just a fashion, and if desired, it can create the image of a student of an elite educational institution everyone.The eighties can be considered a preppy triumph: more and more brands are releasing collections inspired by preppy aesthetics, and the style itself is becoming a catalyst for the emergence of smart casual – a direction that combines centuries-old trends with modern dynamics.
The main thing that the preppy era gave us: this style does not get old, and a thoughtful smart-look looks equally appropriate both at a party and in the office of a global corporation, and behind every detail of this wardrobe lies a huge story.Keep this in mind when trying on a cashmere V-neck or shopping for another pair of loafers at the online store.

Initially, buyers were given the opportunity through nike id to create their own tennis shoe designs using a limited number of materials and colors.Then, with the development of the service, it became possible to use 31 conversion options for the popular Air Force One sneakers – the buyer could already change the materials of the base, sole, lining, laces and more.
Gradually, from a small functionality on the Nike ID website, it turned into a large-scale online service that provides great opportunities for personalization and creation of sneakers with a unique style.
As for the purchase of Nike ID shoes, the choice is yours, you can buy nike id sneakers in Russia or deliver them from America.With the advent of the Qwintry service, delivery from the USA has become not only convenient, but also profitable, especially if you decide to order more than one pair or go shopping in various online stores in America.
If you still do not know anything about Nike, then read the detailed article about Nike from Qwintry. And if Nike is not an empty phrase for you, feel free to create your own unique style.
How to create unique sneakers
To create nike id sneakers, go to the official site Nike nikeid com and change the country “Russia” to “UNITED STATES”.To do this, go down to the very bottom of the site and click on the checkbox in the lower left corner. In the window that appears, select “UNITED STATES”.
Once on the American site Nike, hover the cursor over “CUSTOMIZE WITH NIKEiD”
Then we see a drop-down list where you can select the footwear category we need: MEN (men’s shoes), WOMEN (women’s shoes), KIDS (children’s shoes). Also, all possible types of footwear according to their direction are provided to choose from for change.
Before you create your own sneakers with nike id, you need to decide what kind of sports shoes you need.Types of shoes nike id com according to their focus:
- “Running” (running)
- “Basketball” (basketball)
- “Jordan” (Jordan’s Mike collection)
- “Nike Sportwear” (sports style)
- “Training” (training)
- “Football” (American football)
- “Soccer” (football, nike id boots)
- “Baseball / Softball” (baseball / softball)
- “Tennis” (tennis)
- “Skateboarding” (skateboarding)
- “Golf” (golf)
- “Track & Field” (athletics)
- ” Lacrose “ (lacrosse)
- ” Boys “ (for boys)
- ” Girls “ (for girls)
- ” Baby & Toddler “ (for children and toddlers)
Consider the possibilities of creating your own from Til on the Nike Men’s Running Shoes.Select the required model and press “CLICK TO START”
A menu appears on the left, with which you can make changes – change the material, sole, color of any part of the sneakers, as well as write any word up to 6 characters on the tongue.
If you hover over any of the parts of the sneakers, the name of this part will be displayed in English, when you click on it on the left, this part will be available for change.
It makes no sense to describe the whole process of change, becausebecause each model has its own characteristics (a set of colors, materials, etc.). So all further transformations depend only on your imagination and desires.
It is worth noting only the fact that in some models of sneakers when the material changes (for example, fabric to leather), the original price also changes. So be careful!
In just a couple of minutes, not particularly tired, I created my own sneaker design. Similarly, you can make boots with your own hands in nike id.
It remains to select the size in the “SIZE” tab.You can choose the size you need on the official website nike id:
In addition to the main size of sneakers (“SIZE”), Nike has different types of width (“WIDTH”):
- Standard (men – D, women – B)
- Narrow version (men – B, women – AA)
- Wide version (men – 2E, women – D)
- Extra-wide version (men – 4E)
Order and delivery
NikeID Russia is not available. Unfortunately, the American site Nike does not deliver to Russia, nor does it accept Russian bank cards for payment.
Here two wonderful services Veles (help with purchasing) and Qwintry (delivery from the USA) come to our rescue.
In order for the Veles service to be able to redeem your created model and send it to the Qwintry address, you need to send these sneakers to the Veles mail.
To the right of the sneakers, click on the letter (“Email”)
Next, in the form that appears, fill in the fields (in the first line – your Email, in the second – Veles mail, and in the third – a message with your data for Veles) and click “SEND IT “.
Then Veles staff will contact you and place an order for sneakers with your design (you can read more about the conditions and cost of the service here), after which you just have to wait.
On average, sneakers are manufactured in about 2 weeks, plus shipping to the United States from where they will be sewn (China, Vietnam or Indonesia). In about 4 weeks, Qwintry will have the sneakers.
Next, it remains to arrange delivery to your address in Russia and surprise all your friends with unique Nike sneakers that only you have.
Now you know how to create your own sneakers! Design your own unique sneakers, and Veles and Qwintry will bring them home to you!
DIY Bitfenix Prodigy Case or NAS
Hello dear readers of this wonderful website! I want to continue describing my work on assembling a homemade NAS. I already wrote about the first important component of my system in the Computers and Tablets category, this is the Asus DSL-N55U ADSL modem. Why I bought it and, in general, a brief background on why I need a NAS at all, you can read here.Attention! Lots of photos!
Today I would like to tell you more about the purchase of the second no less important component (all IMHO, someone does not need it at all) – the case. In general, for me, the convenience of mounting components, their cooling, reliability and appearance play a big role … therefore, any box from the old system unit did not suit me, I wanted something small (mini-ITX), with the ability to install at least four hard drives (my collection has grown too much) and with a well-organized cooling system (or at least with the ability to organize one myself), economical.
Of course, first of all, I drew attention to the cases of companies known to everyone who are interested in this issue – Lian Li, Chenbro, Thermaltake. Chenbro and Thermaltake were dropped because were significantly more expensive or the required format was not available (I wanted to use mini ITX). In the end, I settled on 2 cases: Lian Li PC-Q08 and Lian Li PC-Q25 (the first is cheaper and can be conveniently used in the future for a small home computer, the second is more convenient for building a NAS, but because of the special way of attaching the side walls they say that it rattles and requires a little money).While looking for information about these cases, on youtube I saw several reviews of the Prodigy case, which was just in the assortment of the store where I was going to place an order. I liked the case very much, it’s a pity that there were no detailed reviews about the case in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet. As I said earlier, in the Republic of Belarus the restriction on duty-free import of goods from abroad is only 120 euros (when received by mail, of course), although we entered into a customs union with Russia and Kazakhstan, so I decided to buy this particular the body of those two three that I chose (especially since the cheaper Lian Li PC-Q08 temporarily disappeared from the site from sale, now it is again).
The Prodigy case comes in four colors – black, white, orange and red, for myself I chose black as the most practical one. Together with the body (60 euros), so that the purchase was profitable (although I will be honest, since I have a choice in the city, and there are almost no such buildings in Belarus, I would order this body only) I ordered 120 euros to our limit another power supply unit (37 euros) and a cooler (23 euros) for the processor, taking into account the 5 euros discount for the first purchase, it turned out exactly 115 euros, delivery to Belarus and the bank’s commission for paying with a VISA card – 28.55 euros. I bought a case with the above-described components in the German online store Computeruniverse.ru.
As a result, for my “home” NAS I got the following configuration:
– Pentium G2020 (Box) processor, Scythe Shuriken Rev.B cooler
– ITX motherboard Asus P8H-77 I
– Prodigy case
– DDR3 1333 memory Samsung 2×4 Gb, was inherited from the BB (“big brother, that is, a desktop computer”), I installed 16 Gb DDR3 AMD 1600
there – I already had Ippon 850 UPS, I just need to replace the
battery – Corsair 430CX power supply (with 80 PLUS Bronze certification – important, since our NAS operates 24/7)
– HDD WD Green 2×3 Tb, 2×2 Tb, 1×1.5 Tb for torrents
– 4 Gb flash drive QUMO Nano flash
Operating system – NAS4FREE.
VIDEO:
A small VIDEO with these components can be viewed here:
I wanted to clarify on the choice of just such a set of components – first of all, this choice is due to the fact that the ZFS file system used in as the main OS in NAS4FREE and ALREADY AVAILABLE from me initially (memory and partially hard drives). Very briefly what is so special about ZFS:
Additional information
“The main advantage of ZFS is its complete control over physical and logical media.Knowing exactly how data is located on disks, ZFS is able to provide high speed access to them, control their integrity, and minimize data fragmentation. This allows you to dynamically allocate or free disk space on one or more media for a logical file system. In addition, there is a variable block size, which has the best effect on performance, parallelism of read-write operations, as well as a 64-bit mechanism for using checksums, which minimizes the likelihood of invisible data corruption.»
Although when ordering all the selected items were marked as “in stock”, after payment in the office I saw that the power supply was marked with a mark expected in 1-2 days … but the next day everything was sent. A week later, the parcel was at customs, and after another 5 days, the box was brought directly to the apartment. The general box drove fine (inside the factory boxes, everything is new in film), from its appearance it is clear that it may have been shaken decently several times, but nothing torn, etc. not.
So, I will continue about the case.
In order to make it clear what this is about a few photos.
Brief performance characteristics of the case from the manufacturer’s website:
Materials Steel, Plastic
Colors (Int / Ext) Black / Black, White / White
Dimensions (WxHxD) 250 x 404 x 359mm
Internal Dimensions (WxHxD) 250 x 310 x 340 = 26.35 liters
Motherboard Sizes Mini-ITX
5.25 “Drive Bays x 1 (removable)
3.5″ Drive Bays x 5 (3 + 2 modular)
2.5 “Drive Bays x 9 (5 + 2 + 1 +1)
Cooling Front 120mm x 2 (120mm x 1included) or 140/180/200 / 230mm x 1 (optional)
Cooling Rear 120mm x 1 (included) or 140mm x 1 (optional)
Cooling Top 120mm x 2 (optional)
PCI Slots x 2
I / O USB 3.0 x 2, HD Audio
Power Supply PS2 ATX (bottom, multi direction), PSU cage depth 180mm, max PSU depth 160mm
Extras FyberFlex ™ Composite handles, SofTouch ™ surface treatment, filtered intakes, tool-free drive locking
General impressions of the case are very, very positive, IMHO the system turned out to be not very bulky, rather bulky (I mean by the number of hard drives that can be installed) and quiet (to be honest, this is with two installed 140 mm slow-speed fans, which are described below).
As for the assembly in this case – compared to how I once assembled an HTPC in a mATX Thermaltake Lanbox Lite case, this is just a holiday of some sort. No efforts, no attempts to somehow place something, just to fit in, etc., although this body is smaller in volume. The rigidity of the case is sufficient, the upper and lower “handles” of the case (because of which it resembles computers of a very famous company :-)) are made of flexible soft-touch plastic. The motherboard is installed in its place horizontally (because of this, the case is rather wide) on the already soldered racks and there are practically no height restrictions for a tower-type cooler, here everything will depend on compatibility with a specific mat.payment, i.e. in principle it is possible to build a system with passive cooling for the processor. The assembled computer looks like a trace. In the following way:
Further about cooling – two 120 mm are included. cooler with 3 pin connection to the motherboard (you need to have adapters for those who, like my motherboard, have only two connectors, one of them will take the processor cooler). Because I have five hard drives installed, and our summer has been quite hot lately, the standard fans were replaced by 2×140 mm, one at 900 rpm, the other at 1000 rpm – I connected it to the mat.set the motherboard and BIOS to “quiet” mode, in this mode it operates at 600 r / s. Now (copying to one of the NAS disks) the temperature of the hard drives is 32 degrees, the processor temperature is up to 41. You may have to come up with something else, tk. airflow goes only to the basket with 3 hard drives, and maybe not (it will be visible in the summer). One of the purchased 140 mm fans turned out to be blue backlit, and if this is acceptable for a home computer, then for a 24/7 working NAS, it is annoying at night.
I will continue about cooling – the whole case allows the installation of 1×120 (140) mm.rear fan, 2×120 mm. or water cooling from above, 2×120 mm fan in front, but provided that the basket for a 5 “device is removed or 1×140 / 180/200/230 mm. fan, i.e. it is quite possible to create an almost silent machine. For example, install a large tower without cooler for the processor and 230 mm.cooler for 600-900 rpm in front.It is a pity that I didn’t find such a size in my city, but I couldn’t buy it in the online store because of the customs limit (and I remembered when the case had already arrived) , maybe I will order with the next orders …
Another really convenient case is the ability to remove “unnecessary” parts – baskets for hard drives, a compartment for a 5 “device, there are 2 removable filters – one on top and one under the power supply.
It is allowed to install five 3.5 “hard drives (in baskets, using skids with the possibility of additional fastening with a screw, pins in sleds in rubber dampers) and two more SSDs on the side wall or nine 2.5” hard drives – in baskets, on the bottom of the case and on the side cover. The distance between hard drives in a large basket is large enough, which should have a good effect on their temperature regime.
The power supply can be used as a standard one and this is a big plus for the case, but preferably no longer than 160 mm (the compartment itself is longer and if the unit is modular, I think it will stand up to 165 mm), it is installed on rubber feet glued directly to the bottom of the case, there is still a space about 3 cm wide, where you can lay unused cables – I did just that, hid the unnecessary ones closer to the back wall.Although earlier I planned to buy a modular-type power supply unit so that there were as few wires as possible in the case, I fit everything into Prodigy without any special difficulties, hiding all the “tails”, since the space and rather successful design allow it.
There are holes for cables on the pallet for the motherboard, which is also very well thought out and convenient, the side walls are screwed on “thumbs” with large knurled heads. As will be seen in the photo, I still have SATA cables sticking out of the cables, the main power supply, sound and USB, i.e.That is, you can completely get a beautiful case that is not “cluttered” with wires, if you do not connect the sound and USB 3.0 for the front panel that are not used in the construction of the NAS (I just have a habit of having everything connected). For those who will use the case as a gaming machine or HTPC – I like that there is finally USB 3.0 for the front (or rather, side) external panel that connects to the motherboard connector, and not through a cable to the rear connectors, as, for example, in mine in BB (HAF X).
What else do you need to keep in mind? If you install the same cooler as mine, you need to keep in mind that it will block the only PCI express slot and you will not be able to use it (for a video card, for example).When I opened the box with the case, when unpacking, several plastic pieces fell out under my feet, it turned out that during transportation and shaking, the restraints for the basket of hard drives for 3 disks broke (they are located at the back and, unfortunately, are not visible in the photo) and I had to tinker a little with superglue, so be careful – when buying in an offline store, check this point. The soft-touch material gets dirty pretty quickly, after I moved the case a couple of times, fingerprints remain visible – they are erased with a damp cloth.I didn’t like how the sidewalls close – not as tightly as I would like, I like the side covers to close and hold normally without screws, here it is necessary to screw the walls onto the “lambs”.
What was unexpected about the building? The size. In the video and photo on the Internet, it seemed to me a little smaller, so it’s better to estimate its dimensions on some similar object, a box, for example.
Photos of the empty case and already almost assembled can be seen in my album, and how I opened the box with the case on the video can be seen here:
VIDEO:
because they ask in the comments about questions that relate more to the assembled system as a whole, and not specifically to the corpus. Network copy speeds (Windows client computer, SMB2 and FTP protocols): to NAS – up to 120 MB / s, from NAS – up to 70 MB / s. I cannot say exactly how much the system consumes, only based on approximate calculations – up to 80 W (and it all depends on the selected operating mode of the hard drives – they are constantly on (most preferable for the mechanics of the hard drive), with the spindle stopping, etc.P.).
Another addition to the post. Recently I bought a thing necessary for the household (albeit occasionally) – the simplest Xavax Energiekostenmessgerät wattmeter. I would like to cite data on the system’s power consumption in a typical mode, at system boot (peak) and when rewriting information from one disk to another:
typical mode (torrents) – 53.6 W
system load – 82 W (maximum value)
overwriting images from one disk to another – 63.6 W
In the system settings for energy saving it is worth “do not stop the hard disk”.
And a small video with already assembled and configured NAS, on it you can see what the web-shell is for managing and configuring NAS4FREE:

Thank you for reading my creation to the end. If someone has clarifications and wishes, I can correct my post.
Thanks again to everyone who read and thanked for their work, just if you write a personal thank you to everyone, the comments will be twice as many – and it will not be convenient to read, thank you.

What is compression clothing
Compression clothing consists of highly elastic synthetic threads – varieties of polyamide fibers with the inclusion of elastane.Some manufacturers add natural ingredients to the composition. Antibacterial components, such as silver ions, are embedded in the structure of the fabric, which prevent the formation of an unpleasant odor.
Compressive effect is exerted not only by elastic threads, but also by the method of fabric production. The threads are applied diagonally, which creates the reinforcing structure of the canvas.
Despite the synthetic nature of the fabric used, manufacturers have achieved ideal consumer characteristics of products:
• good air permeability;
• drain sweat easily;
• dry quickly;
• provide optimal heat transfer.
It’s no coincidence that compression garments are a favorite for all running enthusiasts. Professional runners use such clothing not only during exercise, but also during the recovery phase after running.
Exercises to determine your personal capabilities
- Analyze your strengths and weaknesses. To do this, you need to remember which actions cause you the most positive emotions. Write them down in a notebook, ranging from the most significant to the least enjoyable.
- The next step will be the revaluation of values. Reimagine your beliefs in life to understand which ones are strengths and which are disadvantages.
- Think of the people whose opinion is valuable to you. Why do you respect them? What traits do they have? Do you have these virtues?
- Remember the last time you were happy? What was happening at this moment? Why were you happy?
- After studying your answers, try to find similarities in them. The traits that will be repeated in most answers are your ideals, what you strive for.
- Determine if your beliefs match your real life.
- Explore the advantages and disadvantages of the area in which you live and work.
- Determine if the environment is optimal for the development of your personality.
- Conduct a survey in which you ask people who know you what character traits you have.
- Having received answers from loved ones, you should find all the common points in them. Make a list of the personality traits that most people find in you.
- Take a self-portrait. You will end up with a deep characterization of personality traits.
- List the actions you need to take to improve your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.
Strengths and weaknesses of a person
Strengths and weaknesses of a person are closely related and should not contradict each other. Each person has their own disadvantages and advantages. As a rule, we are used to talking about the strengths, but we are often silent about the weak.
An independent, focused and self-critical person always recognizes that there are many weaknesses in his character. And there is nothing wrong with that. We are all humans. But every purposeful person can turn their shortcomings into advantages through painstaking work on themselves.
So what are human strengths and how do you find them? To do this, first of all, pay attention to your talents and skills. This is where you will find your strengths. When you have found your advantages, engage in them, develop
This will allow you to open up to the fullest.
If you are unable to identify your own strengths for the survey, ask your friends and acquaintances for help. Thanks to their opinion, you can discover advantages in yourself that you previously did not know about. And in some ways your opinion will agree with the opinion of your friends.
In addition to strengths in your resume, there is often a question about your weaknesses. Don’t be ashamed of them. If you claim that you do not have negative personality traits, this will become a sign of an unformed personality for the recruiter.That in the future is unlikely to help you get the desired position.

P Positive qualities for a resume
When showing strengths, highlight and describe 5-7 characteristics that clearly reflect your character.
When choosing suitable personal qualities from the list, it is important not to overestimate or underestimate self-esteem.Evaluate your candidacy sensibly and determine what character traits are needed for a particular position:
- activity;
- analytical mind;
- ambition;
- quick adaptation to changes;
- care;
- courtesy;
- discipline;
- friendliness;
- initiative;
- communication skills;
- reliability;
- goal-oriented;
- optimism;
- responsiveness;
- decency;
- punctuality;
- independence;
- ability to make quick decisions;
- stress resistance;
- striving for self-improvement, development;
- creative approach to assigned tasks;
- the ability to get along with the team;
- persuasion ability;
- purposefulness;
- honesty.
Examples of professional qualities in the resume
It should be remembered that when listing any of the professional qualities, you need to coordinate this list with the requirements for the position. For example, accuracy can hardly be attributed to professional qualities and defining criteria for a candidate applying for a top manager position. But it can turn out to be a very tangible plus for the secretary position. Therefore, when choosing professional qualities for a resume, consider how one or another of them will be appropriate for you in your future position.
Here are some situations related to certain professions for which some specific qualities are required.
An example of professional qualities for a manager’s resume
- responsibility;
- operability;
- negotiation skills;
- entrepreneurship;
- Ability to make quick decisions.
An example of professional qualities for a resume of a sales manager
- Ability to find a common language with people;
- oratory skills;
- the ability to quickly navigate a situation;
- creativity.
As you can see, the difference in professional qualities is obvious. It all depends on what vacancy you intend to apply for. But do not forget that the list of qualities should not be too long. If it contains about 10 points (or even more), then there is a high probability that your resume will be put aside: after all, the recruiter will get the feeling that you are just praising yourself. Show moderation and the recruiter will evaluate your professional qualities on the resume.
Practical research
There are real laboratory tests that were carried out in 2003 and 2007.
The first experiment consisted of observing two groups of athletes, some trained in a compression suit, others without it. The results showed that compression garments did not provide any benefit to athletes. The sprint speed does not change, the endurance and strength do not change.
The second experiment was similar, but now a blood test was added to the research. As in the first case, no improvement was observed in athletes wearing compression clothing.But blood tests revealed a decrease in the amount of creatine kinase in the blood, which indicates less muscle overstrain.
During the first experiment, not only men and male models were tested, but also the beautiful half of humanity and women’s compression clothing for sports. In the second experiment, only men participated. In both cases, models from different brands were used.
The research results were as follows:
- The compression suit does not help to increase the results, does not affect the strength, speed, endurance and accuracy of movements.It is worth noting that some athletes had improvements in competition, but this was not due to the effect of clothing, but, as tests showed, to the placebo effect.
- In both experiments, it was found that the skin and body of athletes heats up faster. This can be beneficial when warming up during training, but it also has disadvantages when exercising at high temperatures. This phenomenon comes down to a plus when training in the cold.
- There was no difference between the brands, all the clothes showed themselves the same.But it should be noted that relatively few people participated in both experiments. In the first group there were 20 athletes, and in the second – 10. This is not enough to speak with confidence about the advantages or equality of different brands.
- One advantage is that it allows the muscles to strain less. As a result, the athletes more than once noted less fatigue after training, the muscles did not hurt, did not clog. Less damage to striated muscle fibers is also indicated by the low level of creatine kinase in the blood of athletes in a squeeze suit.
It should be recalled that according to the rules of sports competitions, compression garments are prohibited. Since the choice of the form according to the rules should proceed from the weather conditions and personal comfort, and not in order to improve the results.
Sportswear
Compression sportswear – sportswear clothing made of specialized elastic materials that fit the body. Such clothing supports the muscles, enhances the athlete’s movement, conserving and returning energy when stretching and contracting muscles during physical activity.
The set of compression garments provides the athlete with slightly more endurance, strength, energy efficiency. Compression garments fit tightly to the body and allow you to better feel every movement, which means more precise control of the situation.
There are many types of compression garments that perform similar functions, such as tights, T-shirts, socks, sleeves and tights.
Shorts and tights
Compression shorts and tights are commonly worn by athletes as underwear.They are form-fitting, and when worn, cover the body of the athlete to the waist or mid-calf, like a cycling shorts.
More recently, groin braces have declined in popularity among young male athletes, and clothing such as compression shorts have seen an increase in popularity, perhaps because they serve a similar function and look less awkward. Many have a small pocket that may contain a protective cup. It can be argued that the compression shorts do not hold the cups in the correct position, fit tightly to the body and do not move, as in the case of a bandage.Some players wear compression shorts over more traditional protection.
Compression shorts are also popular with athletes, especially those who wear skirts or kilts while playing. In such situations, athletes wear compression shorts under their skirts, and if it falls or bulges up, no one will see their underwear. It is especially used in women’s lacrosse and field hockey (as in non-contact sports in which players often wear skirts). However, compression shorts are colloquially defined as lycra shorts.Women also wear compression shorts for tennis, where, more recently, shorts made with a ball pocket have been introduced. There are women’s compression shorts for use before, during and after pregnancy. Compression shorts support upper and lower abdominal muscles, cesarean cuts and groin sutures.
When to wear sports compression garments
For example, during heavy, prolonged exertion. An additional risk factor for a predisposition to varicose veins is spider veins, enlarged veins, edema.
For example, to prepare for a triathlon, I was offered to use sports socks of the Australian company 2XU (as I was told, “Mercedes” in the world of sports compression, and even triathletes compete in this brand). I wear it for all hard cycling and running workouts, especially when the load increases. Actually, with enlarged veins on my legs, I definitely need such underwear at high loads.
A separate topic is recovery, top manufacturers have lines of recovery clothing after hard training or competition.And, based on the results of scientific research, it is possible to recommend compression for these purposes.
Top brands have lines of compression underwear “for restoration”.
But you should not wear a “compression” constantly because of the excessive action of their main positive effect. An overdose of squeezing can be as harmful as a disadvantage: your blood vessels may no longer maintain their natural tone, which can also lead to the same problems that such underwear treats.Therefore (if you have no other indications for use), you should not wear compression underwear when the load is familiar to you.
Carefully study the size chart of the compression garment and carefully follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. The compression belt should sit tight (like a second skin), dress with difficulty, but not restrain movement.
Use your compression garments wisely and with benefits to your health and results. And may the strength be with you.

Medical “compression”
Physicians write, and we retell you: there are 4 classes of compression of medical linen, but without a doctor you can look only at the first. First-class underwear can be bought at the pharmacy – it is for prevention. Doctors recommend it to anyone who could find spider veins on their legs, find an increase in saphenous veins, or get irritated from edema by the end of the day. The rest of the classes of underwear will not be sold to you without a doctor’s prescription, and we will never dare to advise without the recommendations of specialists.
Nevertheless, the meaning of this chapter is to talk about contraindications: do not wear compression underwear for atherosclerosis, thromboangiitis obliterans, endoarteritis, orthoarteritis.
What else should you pay attention to in the questionnaire or resume
During the interview, we recommend that you also indicate the “general” strengths.
Be sure to indicate in your resume that you always set goals and achieve them, that is, you are a purposeful person.
At the same time, show perseverance and always follow a pre-drawn plan.
It is also worth pointing out that in the event of unforeseen circumstances, you can find a way out of this situation – you have creative thinking.
Another important component of any successful job seeker is self-confidence. This will characterize you as a confident person who is not afraid to take a step forward.
You are not inclined to panic because of unforeseen circumstances, you are calm and confident in your abilities.
The ability to communicate with people is also very important. Let it be customers, colleagues, subordinates, suppliers.You just need to be able to find a “common language” with them, accept their point of view and correctly present your opinion.
Another positive character trait that must be indicated in the employment questionnaire is responsibility. Whatever position you would not apply for, you should always be responsible for your actions. Otherwise, you will become a burden to the company, which will ultimately lead you to be fired.
Also, when applying for a new position, indicate that you are well trained.You can give examples from past work or university practice. When you come to a new company, the first time you will need to study: learn about the company, about the features of its activities and learn how to fulfill your direct responsibilities.
Features of sports shoes
The choice of footwear depends on the sport. If you are heading to the gym to work with a barbell and dumbbells, you should not take sneakers with a reinforced springy sole. It should be low (no more than 2–2.5 cm) and without noticeable thickening on the heel.It is also advisable to choose shoes with a corrugated (so that the sneakers do not slip) and flexible enough (so that the foot is comfortable) soles.
If you are looking for shoes for running, it is worth considering options with a thickened springy sole
When choosing running shoes, you need to pay attention to several parameters:
- foot structure;
- the surface on which you will run;
- intensity and type of running.
To determine the structural features of the foot (degree of pronation), perform a test with a sheet of paper and water.Wet your foot and leave a wet print on the sheet.
Pronation Degree
If you are over-pronated and / or overweight, consider a shoe with good cushioning and instep support. The latter will soften the impact of the foot on the ground while running and protect the knees from injury. But if you have neutral or hypopronation, you should not buy shoes with an instep support: the risk of twisting your foot increases.
The greater the weight of the athlete and the less prepared his ligaments and muscles, the more he needs foot support and cushioning.Modern running shoes use different materials for cushioning: gel, foam, plastic inserts.
A high heel reduces the risk of injuries to the Achilles tendons, but its hard parts should not press on the foot or dig into the leg: all this is fraught with pain and calluses after training.
The forefoot of a running shoe must be flexible. In some modern sneakers, it is made entirely of synthetic breathable fabric. It seems that you are running in socks with springy soles.It is very convenient.
Trainers with a soft toe
Other trainers have stiffening elements in the forefoot, but mostly the upper is made of mesh fabric, which is very breathable.
Trainers with mesh
Do not buy close-up shoes: there should be about 3 mm between the toe and the toe of the trainer. While running, the foot increases in size. And if your finger rests on the shoe, you can damage your nail.
When choosing shoes, you need to remember what kind of surface and what time of year you will be running.For summer jogging on tarmac, stadiums, or a treadmill in the gym, sneakers with a soft, thin sole and a fabric or mesh upper are suitable.
For trail running, such as forest paths, you need a harder shoe with a deeper tread to protect your foot. Off-road and trail running shoes have extra protection at the toe to keep you away from branches and sharp rocks, as well as deep tread and spikes.
Running shoes for fall, winter and spring are also heavier: the mesh upper is replaced by a denser, waterproof one.
Basic set for winter
Bottom layer – thermal underwear or synthetic sportswear that wicks moisture away from the body.
Top layer – jackets made of membrane fabric, which, thanks to micropores, allows water vapor to pass from the inside, but not drops of water from the outside. Vapors from the body penetrate through the first layer of clothing and emerge to the surface in the form of vapor.
This technology is used in the clothes of the famous Columbia brand. Omni-Tech branded jackets feature a waterproof and moisture-wicking membrane.
Omni-Tech
The jacket may also have additional ventilation in case the membrane cannot cope with the fumes. If you sweat a lot while exercising, consider this option.
There are several types of membrane jackets:
- Single layer. The membrane is applied to the fabric and protected with a polyurethane coating. These jackets are suitable for spring, they are very lightweight.
- Double layer. In such jackets, the membrane is also applied to the fabric, but does not have a polyurethane protective coating.Instead, a mesh lining protects the membrane. These jackets will last longer.
- Three-layer. In such jackets, the membrane is located between two layers of fabric: the outer layer and the lining. This is the most durable option.
Mesh-lined jackets
One of the most famous membranes is Gore-Tex. This material is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with a thin PU film and is highly waterproof. Clothes and shoes with this membrane are excellent for air permeability and moisture removal, but they are also quite expensive.
More modern membrane – eVent. Together with a protective PU layer, which reduces vapor permeability, an oil substance is used here, due to which the pores of the membrane conduct evaporation better. Pore-free membranes like Triple-Point and Sympatex are very good at protecting against precipitation, but rather poorly at removing body vapors in high humidity.
The ability of a jacket to wick away sweat is strongly influenced not only by the type of membrane, but also by what you wear under it.
If you put a thick cotton sweater down, it gets wet.Sweat will not be effectively transported to the surface of the jacket, and you will exercise in wet clothes.
Another well-known technology for winter clothing is Omni-Heat. These are the dots in aluminum on the lining of the garment that are easy to recognize for Columbia jackets. The aluminum dots retain body heat and the space between them prevents overheating.
Omni-Heat
Sports jacket labels sometimes indicate the temperature at which you will feel comfortable exercising. For example, here is a jacket for -10 ° C and an option for 0 ° C.

Compression stockings
Compression stockings are specialized hosiery designed to prevent or prevent the development of progressive trophic disorders such as edema, phlebitis and thrombosis.
Compression stockings have a compressive effect on the limb, thereby reducing the diameter of the stretched veins, this leads to an increase in the speed of venous blood flow and the effectiveness of the valves of the veins. Stockings have the greatest squeezing effect on the ankles and gradually become less squeezing towards the knees and thighs.In all grades, compression is distributed from 100% at the ankle to 40% at the thigh. By compressing the superficial veins, arteries and muscles, blood is circulated through narrow blood vessels by “forcing”. As a result, blood pressure rises, which causes more blood to flow to the heart and reduces the amount of “stagnant” blood in the legs. Thus, compression therapy helps to reduce venous pressure, prevent venous congestion and disruption of the venous walls, and relieve heaviness and pain in the legs.
High compression stockings (above the knee) are used not only to increase blood circulation, but also in cases of prevention of blood stagnation in the lower leg. The optimal pressure gradient is 18 mm Hg. Art. on the ankle, 14 mm Hg. Art. on the calf, and 10 mm Hg. Art. in the knee.
This is interesting: Why do you need cycling shorts, how they differ, what types are there, what to look for when choosing and how to take care of cycling shorts
Style and compression
I used to associate sportswear with rather spacious things: stretched T-shirts and wide pants , which do not press anywhere and do not press.Now the views on this issue have changed.
Loose clothes are great for the home, but when you play sports, the flapping sails around you will get in the way. This has a bad effect on aerodynamic properties and interferes with stretching. And if, for example, you roll out the body on a spiked massage roller, the edges of the T-shirt roll up under it and this is very annoying.
In addition to special fabrics and technologies, mesh inserts are often used in sportswear: in the armpits, on the back, on the chest.Meshes provide extra ventilation.
Compression garments are suitable for intensive loads. She not only looks good, but also helps you cope with unusually hard workouts. Intensive running, strength exercises with heavy lifting, preparation for a competition, as well as a tendency to edema and varicose veins – all these are indications for the use of compression underwear.
Light uniform squeezing of the limbs helps the vessels withstand heavy loads. In addition, the compression garment reduces muscle soreness after exercise and helps you recover faster.
Nevertheless, compression items should be left in case of unusual excessive loads. Constant wearing of such clothes reduces vascular tone.
Benefits of compression clothing
• Maintains muscle and vascular tone of the legs
Due to external compression of the leg, muscles begin to work more efficiently, and microcirculation of blood in the legs improves. Therapeutic wearing of various compression garments is indicated, for example, for vascular problems with the lower extremities.Many runners reported that after using compression gaiters or socks, the manifestation of varicose veins was alleviated, the progression of the disease stopped, despite continued exertion. This, of course, cannot excuse those people who, with vein disease, continue to overload their legs. Nevertheless, numerous documented facts of stabilization of vascular pathology in such people confirm the benefits of wearing compression clothing during physical activity.
• Socks and knee-highs fit the ankle, support the Achilles tendon
Compression socks and knee-highs will certainly not protect you from possible injuries. However, their support “frame” gives additional stability to the leg. Remotely, such a “frame” performs the function of an exoskeleton: it stabilizes the joints and prevents unnatural deformations.
• Promotes increased oxygen exchange of muscle tissues
By increasing the general tone of blood vessels, blood circulation in the legs is slightly accelerated.But this slight acceleration is enough to improve the oxygen supply to the muscles. This means that the muscles will work more efficiently.
• Stimulates the excretion of lactic acid from muscle fibers
It is noted that after heavy loads in compression hosiery, discomfort and pain in the muscles are significantly less.
• Reduces the likelihood of flattening the calf muscles over long distances
This is what leg warmers are for. In addition, in hot weather, they are more comfortable than in full socks or in leggings pants.Football players, for example, cut their socks on purpose, because runs better if the shoe is in contact with a cotton toe rather than polyamide. However, for the average runner covering straight distances, this does not really matter.
• Improves body feeling.
Subjectively, the movement of the legs in compression garments is felt more clearly. Coordination improves.
• Reduces the workload on the heart
One study found that running in compression socks (gaiters, pants) slows down the heart rate by 2 beats per minute, ie.That is, by about 1.5%. Despite its low value, this should be recognized as an important advantage of tightening clothing, which, at the very least, allows you to take better care of your heart.
Strengths
By analogy, you can praise yourself in the questionnaire. Indicate all your talents, abilities, skills, experience. For example:
- willpower;
- endurance;
- durability;
- leadership qualities;
- purposefulness;
- peace of mind;
- organization;
- mental clarity;
- determination;
- communication skills;
- initiative;
- patience;
- love of truth;
- equity;
- thrift;
- business ability;
- financial skills;
- tolerance;
- spirituality;
- analytics;
- the ability to compromise;
- artistry;
- accuracy;
- respect for leaders.
The list is also very approximate. It will be easier to correct it if you are explained what you will need to do at work. Be sure to take an interest. And from the responsibilities, highlight the skills that are necessary for their successful implementation.
What the “compression” gives: pain relief, quick recovery, prevention of vascular diseases
But in terms of health and comfort, there are positive results. Scientists from Macy University in Auckland found that after 24 hours after a high-intensity 10 km run (using compression socks), there was a decrease in delayed muscle pain.93% of athletes who ran without compression socks experienced pain in the lower leg the day after the race, and only 14% of subjects who ran in compression socks also experienced similar pain.
Even the simplest compression socks from leading brands are not cheap.
Scientists from the University of Exeter evaluated the effects of compression garments on muscle recovery. Tested by repeating three strength exercises 1, 2, 3 and 4 days after the painful exercise.Wearing compression garments for 24 hours after training was found to improve performance on all three endurance tests and reduce subjects’ soreness.
If we add here medical indications for the prevention of long-term negative effects from serious exertion, the benefits of compression underwear are obvious. However, you should clearly understand how much you need it and wear it deliberately.
DIY Bitfenix Prodigy Case or NAS
Hello dear readers of this wonderful website! I want to continue describing my work on assembling a homemade NAS.I already wrote about the first important component of my system in the Computers and Tablets category, this is the Asus DSL-N55U ADSL modem. Why I bought it and, in general, a brief background on why I need a NAS at all, you can read here. Attention!
– Pentium G2020 (Box) processor, Scythe Shuriken Rev.B
cooler
– motherboard ITX Asus P8H-77 I
– Prodigy
case
– DDR3 1333 Samsung 2×4 Gb memory, inherited from BB (“big brother, ie desktop computer”), installed 16 Gb DDR3 AMD 1600
there
– UPS Ippon 850 I already had, only it is necessary to replace the battery
– Corsair 430CX power supply (with 80 PLUS Bronze certification – important as our NAS operates 24/7)
– HDD WD Green 2×3 Tb, 2×2 Tb, 1×1.5 Tb for torrents
– 4 Gb flash drive QUMO Nano flash
Operating system – NAS4FREE.
VIDEO:
A small VIDEO with these components can be viewed here:
I wanted to clarify on the choice of just such a set of components – first of all, this choice is due to the fact that the ZFS file system used as the main one in NAS4FREE and ALREADY AVAILABLE from me initially (memory and partially hard drives).

Power Supply PS2 ATX (bottom, multi direction), PSU cage depth 180mm, max PSU depth 160mm
Extras FyberFlex ™ Composite handles, SofTouch ™ surface treatment, filtered intakes, tool-free drive locking
General impressions of the case are very, very positive, IMHO the system turned out to be not very cumbersome, quite voluminous (I mean by the number of hard drives that can be installed) and quiet (to be honest, this is with two installed 140 mm.low-speed fans, which are described below).
As for the assembly in this case, compared to how I once assembled an HTPC in a mATX Thermaltake Lanbox Lite case, this is just a holiday of some sort.
For example, install a large tower without cooler for the processor and 230 mm.cooler for 600-900 rpm in front.It is a pity that I did not find such a size in my city, but I could not buy it in the online store because of the customs limit (and I remembered when the case had already arrived) , may be ordered with the following orders …
What else is really convenient about the case is the ability to remove “unnecessary” parts – baskets for hard drives, a compartment for a 5 “device, there are 2 removable filters – one on top and one under the power supply.
The power supply can be used as a standard one and this is a big plus for the case, but preferably no longer than 160 mm (the compartment itself is longer and if the unit is modular, I think it will stand up to 165 mm), it is installed on rubber feet glued directly to the bottom of the case, there is still space on the sides about 3 cm wide, where you can put unused cables – I did just that, hid the unnecessary ones closer to the back wall.Although earlier I planned to buy a modular-type power supply unit so that there were as few wires as possible in the case, I fit everything into Prodigy without any special difficulties, hiding all the “tails”, since the space and rather successful design allow it.
What was unexpected about the corps? The size. In the video and photo on the Internet, it seemed to me a little smaller, so it’s better to estimate its dimensions on some similar object, a box, for example.
Photos of the empty case and already almost assembled can be seen in my album, and how I opened the box with the case in the video can be seen here:
VIDEO:
because they ask in the comments about questions that relate more to the assembled system as a whole, and not specifically to the corpus.
I would like to cite data on power consumption by the system in a typical mode, when the system boots (peak) and when rewriting information from one disk to another:
typical mode (torrents) – 53.6 W
system load – 82 W (maximum value)
overwriting images from one disk to another – 63.6 W
In the system settings for energy saving, it is worth “do not stop the hard drive”.
And a small video with the already assembled and configured NAS, on it you can see what the web-shell is for managing and configuring NAS4FREE:

Thank you for reading my creation to the end. If someone has clarifications and wishes, I can correct my post.
Thanks again to everyone who read and thanked for their work, just if you write a personal thank you to everyone, the comments will be twice as many – and it will not be convenient to read, thank you.
