Designed in the same vein as Cascade’s other top helmets, the CS-R is lined with comfortable, protective Poron XRD foam that offers top-of-the-line protection at the youth level. The liner system is specifically designed for younger players and the impacts that occur in U12 games. Ensure a secure fit with the Full Pivot System, which shapes to any number of heads, and gain lateral protection with the memory foam side-fit. The one-piece shell and a three-bar facemask provide an intimidating look that was only found on the upper levels of lacrosse.

Prokhor Poltapov is one of the few young KHL players who can boast of the Gagarin Cup in his 20s. The striker spent a stable season in the army club, periodically coming out in the first links. The Red Army graduate won the trust of the coaching staff in the regular season (5+5 in 55 games) and continued to justify it in the playoffs, earning 5 (2+3) points in 19 matches.
In an exclusive interview with the official website of the MHL, Prokhor Poltapov spoke about his experiences during the playoffs, the youth stage passed, his family and St. Petersburg.
“I already experienced the emotions of defeat in the final – I really didn’t want this to happen again”
– How do you feel about being the owner of the Gagarin Cup?
– Just glad. When the final siren sounded, there was devastation and emotional relief, but the next day happiness returned.
– CSKA lost the first match of the final, but then took three games in a row. What helped you take control of the situation?
– It’s just a character, a desire to fulfill the goal. We wanted to win and we knew we could do it. Moreover, after three victories in a row, they realized that there was one more match left to pick up.
The last step is the hardest one.
– How did you react when the advantage in the series began to slip out of your hands?
– There were no disputes or disagreements. We understood that we all want one thing – to win. They knew what to do and just kept doing it.
– In the final, I remember your clash with Alexander Radulov. How do you see that situation?
– The situation was like this: Misha Grigorenko started to climb out onto the net, the puck bounced onto the nickel and he, seeing that it was not pinned down, started finishing off. I was standing nearby, turning my head – and I see: Misha is lying, and two players are hammering him in the back with clubs, and after the referee’s whistle. Two against one, also lying down, was unfair. I pushed them away, a player ran into me from behind, I immediately began to fight, turned around. I saw that it was Radulov only when my helmet had already fallen off. We are all men, no matter who is of what age and status – everyone is equal on the ice.
– Do you agree that Radulov is a special player in the KHL?
– I think he was special in the NHL too. You can still see that he came from there and he has a great experience. He always does not care who is in front of him, Radulov has a very strong character.
– Are you trying to develop a similar character in yourself?
– Yes, of course. If you show such an attitude on the ice, then less confident guys will bypass you.
– You told us what kind of coach Sergey Fedorov is. But what kind of person is he?
– The same as the coach: calm, balanced. It is clear that he was a player. Sergei Viktorovich has such a trait – he thinks a lot, it pays off.
– In the final, you scored a goal after a magnificent solo pass. What did you feel when you realized that the puck was in the goal?
– When I just ran to the goal, I thought: “The main thing is not to lose the puck!”.
Then everything went crazy – he threw it and scored. I just wanted to win, like everyone else. It was the first goal, we took a 1-0 lead in what was probably our winning match. Emotions were only because of this. I felt that thanks to my puck we were one step closer to the Cup.
– Then CSKA lost 1:2. What emotions do you experience after matches, when your team lost, but at the same time you did something productive?
– I only have emotions about team success. There are no thoughts: “Damn, well, I scored such a beautiful goal, but we lost!” I just think that the team lost.
– In the final series you scored 3 (1+2) points. What helped to add in the most important segment for the team?
– I think it’s a responsibility that I was put in the second link somewhere. Moreover, this is the finale, you have been going to this all season. Losing in the final is the worst feeling on earth. Plus, the support of the older guys helped, who said: “Everything is fine, play as best you can.
If anything, we will insure you.” These factors have paid off.
– Did the experience of losing the MHL final with the Red Army somehow affect your motivation?
– He had a very strong effect. I had already experienced these emotions once, they were as unpleasant as possible, so I really did not want this to happen again. You draw some conclusions and learn from your mistakes, so the experience of losing the final only drove me forward.
– CSKA won five seven-game series in the last two playoffs. What’s the secret?
– This is confidence, these are men who understand their goal and know what to do, where they are going and what club they play for. Of course, if you were not confident, you would not have been called to this team. There are only two options: either you overcome yourself and become stronger, or you slide down.

– Have you looked at your goals and assists in the playoffs?
– I didn’t score that much, so I watched more games where I didn’t score. And so I’m reviewing the changes. If I come across a shift with a goal, I’ll look at it like a regular study guide.
– Your pass in the seventh match against Lokomotiv was recognized as the best in the quarterfinals. Can you remember how you gave away that pass-candy?
– We went into pressure correctly, scratched out this puck, after the struggle it flew off to me. I saw that Vitalya Abramov jumped out from behind the gate, and the opponent’s goalkeeper moved with me. It was just a matter of throwing the puck to him.
– In the same game, you hit the post. In the playoffs, the puck was sometimes simply pulled off the ribbon. How did they react to such failures?
– The one who seeks will always find, the one who goes will always come. Somewhere just unlucky.
If there are such moments, you just need to keep doing what you are doing, hone your efficiency and accuracy, so that it definitely flies.
– Do you remember the moment when you went alone to the empty goal of Severstal, and the opponent’s goalkeeper did not have time to change and hurried back to the target?
– Yes. I saw that Volodya Bryukvin picks up the puck, I thought: “So, he will throw it out now, and there is a goalkeeper. We need to think about what to do one on one,” I didn’t even know that the goalkeeper ran away. I get the puck, I see an empty net and I don’t understand where the goalkeeper is. Then I notice out of the corner of my eye how he runs back, I thought: “The main thing is to hit.”
– Both of your playoff goals were scored on solo runs. Why didn’t you manage to excel after combinations?
– I don’t think I’ve fully adjusted to adult hockey yet. In children’s hockey, you took the puck and ran. It worked, it didn’t work, it doesn’t matter.
And in the KHL is a completely different level. Here tactics, combinations, conversations with each other about where who will be and what will be done.
– You missed half of the semi-finals because of illness, how did it happen?
– I felt guilty, because we are all professionals, I didn’t keep track of myself somewhere, I got sick and left the team at such a crucial moment. I watched every game of CSKA and was very worried.
– Were you worried that due to high competition it would be difficult to return to the squad after recovery?
– I was worried about being sick, but I understood that I would have a chance. Although I will not immediately return to the same place in the starting lineup, but if there is at least some chance, I will have to take it. After all, the fact that I fell ill and dropped out of the squad is only my mistake, so I am responsible for it.
– In the series with Severstal (9:3 and 0:3) and Lokomotiv (2:6 and 5:0) there were very different and large scores.
Is this a consequence of relaxation in connection with the first rounds?
– I think it has more to do with the fact that the playoffs are a completely different game. When not much time passes from the regular season to the cup matches, you still play like in the regular season. From this such thoughts and results. Therefore, by the end of the second round, the scores were not so big – everyone had already managed to rebuild.
– You mentioned that you really dislike playing against defensemen with long sticks. How do you like Andrei Pedan and Stepan Falkovsky?
– Horror, horror. Nikita Lyamkin and Kirill Adamchuk are also great defenders with long clubs, I hate them. You run away from them, and they get you.
– Before the start of the playoffs, were you worried about whether you would make it to the squad at all?
– Naturally, there were thoughts, because I wanted to help the team. Therefore, I was very worried and waited for at least some small chance.
– When did this excitement disappear?
– When played the first playoff game. On the second I was given a little more playing time. I realized that I was doing everything right, I was moving in the right direction, I just had to continue, because this is the playoffs, you can’t relax here, the games go every other day. If you give yourself slack, you will lose the thread of the game.
– In the playoffs, your time quickly increased from one and a half minutes per game to 10-12. What does it feel like to have a lot of trust at that level?
– Just a buzz! The real thrill. This is a holiday when your season continues, each victory is worth its weight in gold. When you still play so much at that age, it’s a great experience.
– In the second match of the semi-finals against SKA, there were five pupils of the Silver Lions school on the ice at once: you, Dmitry Nikolaev, Nikolai Polyakov, Vasily Glotov and Zakhar Bardakov.
Do you know them personally?
– No, I don’t have any close friends in the system at SKA. The only thing I remember is how I went to look at Vasya Glotov in the MHL when I was still small. They played at Yubileiny, Glotov was still wearing a mask. I just remembered his last name. I was 12 years old then, so I went to the MHL and looked at the older guys, for me they were healthy.
– Was two seven-game series in a row difficult for the team and for you personally?
– We have a good coaching staff, medical staff and massage therapists, they help us not to think about anything but games and our own recreation. Therefore, in our game, there were no huge failures. Sometimes we failed a little, the puck just didn’t go into the goal, but then we quickly got together. Since I played 10-12 minutes per game, which is quite a lot for a young hockey player, I was really thrilled that we had so many meetings.
– Cross playoffs are introduced in the KHL from the second round.
You have already come across this practice in the MHL.
– I think it will be interesting to look at this at an adult level. In the MHL, you get used to playing two days in a row, and then you have to fly back and play only two days later. And then the matches go through the day.
– When talking about you, Sergei Fedorov noted that at this age the main thing is not to be arrogant. What will help to avoid this?
– Own head on the shoulders and mother.
– Did you have any bouts of “star disease” during your career?
– Everything was interrupted in the bud. It was immediately said: “If you do this, it will be stuck” (smiles) .
– In the KHL, according to you, it is important not to think about serious things and always stay positive. Did you manage to do it in the playoffs?
– There are some jokes anyway, sometimes you forget about everything, nothing puts pressure on you.
Something may arise before the match, but when you go to the first shift, all the worries immediately disappear.
– When did you realize that you finally got a foothold in CSKA?
– I think I understood it only in the playoffs, not even in the regular season.
– Did practicing in the VHL in the 2021/22 season help in the KHL?
– This helped to understand the style and dimensions, because there are already men there. They will not look that you are still young. So, you have to beat them with your head, think for yourself and for them.
“The period in the youth team helped me become who I am now”
– In the playoffs, you joined the Red Army for one match, which she lost. How would you rate this experience?
– Based on my performance in that match, terrible. I was sent to help, but I did not help at all. But it was hard to change from adult hockey back to youth hockey. Much harder than from child to adult: different speeds, less organized team.
– Did responsibility weigh on you as a KHL player?
– Yes, there was some pressure. I tried to put all emotions out of my head, I was set only to win. I wanted to come out and help the team to play further. At that time, there was uncertainty. Perhaps I would have ended the season with them.
– In the 2021/22 season, the Red Army reached the final, and in this season they were eliminated in the first round. Why such a different result?
– There has been a change of generations. Then the team leaders spent the whole season in the MHL, but this time they pulled everyone out of other leagues, the guys lost this thread of the MHL.
– In your last match in the JHL, you played against Spartak, for which your friend Nikita Chibrikov played. Were you able to communicate with him?
– Only after the game. We had not seen each other for a long time, we had not met on the ice, so it was interesting to see who had grown into what.
Congratulated him on signing a rookie contract with Winnipeg. I think he will succeed.
– Do you regret that you never played with Kirill Kaprizov for CSKA? In his last season in the KHL, you played one match, but then he was not in the application.
– Of course, it’s a pity. When you train and see everything live, these are completely different feelings and emotions. It would be as cool as possible to even just talk to him, this conversation would be an incredible experience. In any case, you watch some of his matches, shifts, you understand what he is doing. If what Kaprizov does bears fruit, then why don’t you try it too? A personal meeting with Cyril would be very helpful.
– Would it be correct to say that the departure of the “Red Army” was to some extent useful and made it possible to no longer think about the fact that you might be unexpectedly called from CSKA to help the youth team?
– No. To be honest, it was not useful at all, because it’s all one CSKA system.
A club that always goes only for the first places, and the departure of the youth team in the first round is very bad. The only thing that was helpful for me was that I looked at the situation, analyzed my game and realized: “Boy, you need to pull yourself together.”
– Was there a feeling of understatement from the fact that you ended the youth stage of your career in this way?
– If I somehow stepped over this stage and now I am higher, why should I consider it unsuccessful? He gave me an impetus for development, because I rose and grew thanks to this stage. I think I had a good experience. Everything was not bad, if you do not take into account the fact that we did not win the Kharlamov Cup. The MHL gave me confidence, strength, raised a real hockey player in me. The period in the youth team helped me become who I am now.
“Sister might cry if we lose or I get hurt somehow”
– How are you spending your championship vacation?
– I spend time with my mother and sister, because it was a very long season – I didn’t see them for a long time, it was hard for me and for them.
I fly to rest at the seaside and get some vitamins. I also want to take the Gagarin Cup to St. Petersburg.
– You left St. Petersburg a long time ago and you yourself said that in terms of the way of life you are more of a Muscovite. Of all the places for the cup, did you choose your first Silver Lions school?
– Yes, I’m going to go to my native school and have a photo session there so that all the little guys understand what they should strive for, that good players really grow out of this school. I have good memories from St. Petersburg, connected specifically with the hockey school, but not with the city itself. The Silver Lions raised me, they really trained us there. Plus, my dad and grandparents live in St. Petersburg – those whom I don’t see during the season. I would also like to come to them with a cup and rejoice together.
– Is it hard not to see your father for so long?
– It’s hard, but dad is not mom (smiles) .
We often talk to him, he tells a lot, so we don’t have time to miss each other very much. We understand that I am already an adult, he is even more so. Sometimes it gets sad because you want to talk more, but my dad and I have things to do, we can’t be sad for a long time.
– You often mention your mother. Tell me about your sister.
– She is very fond of my sports – I think even more than my mother. My sister is very sentimental, she is very worried, she may burst into tears if we lose or if I somehow hit. She is 17 years old, she is well done with me. When my mother is at work, my sister takes care of me as much as possible, many thanks to her! Because of my hockey, she moved at all at 9years from hometown.
– Are your mother and sister your main fans?
– Yes, they go to all home games and watch all away games. They were very nervous in the playoffs, as was I. Before the seventh game of the final, I started to have a hassle, called my mother at three in the morning, said that I could not sleep and I was shaking.
We chatted with her and it became good. The sister then sent her videos, saying: “Brother, win!”.
– In one of your interviews, you said that Pavel Bure would not even be in the top five fastest players right now. Who are the fastest hockey players in the KHL?
– Seryoga Plotnikov is very fast and efficient, Max Mamin also runs very fast with the puck, he rolls. I will also highlight Vital Abramov and Pavel Poryadin.
– What are the main qualities for a modern hockey player?
– The game is changing a lot, the courts are getting smaller, so I think speed is very important. You have to move quickly and think at the same time, because the legs can work, but the head will not understand where they are running. First of all, you need to develop thinking, because you can be physically strong, but the head is very important. Everything else will come.
– You admitted that you used to be able to sit with the guys from the “Red Army” in computer clubs in your free time.
Have you already played with someone from the KHL?
– Yes, this year I played with Volodya Bryukvin and Vlad Kamenev. Of those with whom we were together in the JHL, I will single out Takhir Mingachev, Matvey Guskov and Maxim Sorkin. We play Counter-Strike.
– In St. Petersburg, you lived in the Primorsky district, and the Silver Lions had ice in Udelny Park and Mebelnaya Street, and the conditions for the players were not the best. Did you pay attention to any difficulties at that time?
– I don’t know about others, but I didn’t think about it at all until I was 12 years old. My mother only recently began to tell me that it was really hard. Many thanks to my parents that they didn’t put pressure on me, didn’t say: “We buy a uniform, and you play like that!”. I just got high and played hockey, it didn’t matter to me which locker rooms to sit in. In St. Petersburg, I changed clothes in a dryer so as not to carry a uniform with me, I had a huge hanger with legs.
He put it on and hung up the uniform, then he came with mom or dad to this dryer, changed clothes right there and went to the ice. When I moved to Podolsk, I thought: “Nifiga yourself! Could it be like that too?”
– Your mother is a very religious person, what role does faith play in your life?
– As big as hockey. Hockey and faith are one thing for me. I know the prayers, I pray before every game, I have a cross and an Orthodox bracelet, but I won’t say any more (smiles) .
– A few years ago you tried to read a book a week, how is reading now?
– In general, I abandoned this whole topic with reading. There really is not enough time: you arrive, lie down, your legs are taken away, you just relax, and in the morning you already have to train. You come and lie down to rest again, you don’t have enough strength for anything.
– Your children’s coaches in the Vityaz and Dynamo systems were from CSKA themselves.
