Choosing the Right Summer Camp in Winston-Salem
With so many options available, selecting the right summer camp for your child can be challenging. Here are some factors to consider when making your decision:
Age and Interests
How can you match a camp to your child’s age and interests? Look for programs that cater to your child’s specific age group and align with their passions. Whether they’re interested in sports, arts, or academic pursuits, Winston-Salem offers camps to suit various preferences.
Schedule and Duration
What camp schedule works best for your family? Consider whether you need full-day or half-day programs, and how many weeks of camp you’re looking for. Some camps offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate working parents.
Cost and Financial Aid
How much do summer camps in Winston-Salem typically cost? Prices can vary widely depending on the type of camp, duration, and amenities offered. Some organizations may provide financial aid or scholarships for families in need. Be sure to inquire about these options if cost is a concern.
Staff Qualifications and Safety Measures
What should you know about camp staff and safety protocols? Research the qualifications of camp counselors and instructors, especially for specialized programs. Inquire about safety measures, including staff-to-camper ratios, emergency procedures, and any COVID-19 precautions still in place.
Benefits of Summer Camps for Winston-Salem Youth
Attending summer camps can provide numerous benefits for children and teenagers in the Winston-Salem area:
Skill Development
How do summer camps contribute to skill development? Camps offer structured environments where children can learn new skills or improve existing ones, whether in sports, arts, or academic areas. This focused practice can lead to significant improvements over the summer months.
Social Interaction
Why are summer camps important for social development? Camps provide opportunities for children to meet new friends, work in teams, and develop social skills. This is especially valuable for building confidence and expanding social networks beyond school circles.
Physical Activity
How do sports camps promote health and fitness? Many summer camps, especially sports-focused ones, keep children physically active during the summer break. This helps maintain fitness levels and promotes healthy habits.
Creative Expression
Why are arts camps beneficial for creative development? Arts-focused camps allow children to explore their creativity in supportive environments, potentially discovering new passions or talents.
Independence and Personal Growth
How do summer camps foster independence? Attending camp can help children develop independence, learn to make decisions, and build self-confidence as they navigate new experiences away from home.

Packing Essentials
What should you pack for summer camp in Winston-Salem? Essential items typically include:
- Appropriate clothing for the camp’s activities
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Water bottle
- Any required equipment or supplies specified by the camp

Farmers Union Youth Camp | Wi Farmers Union
Farmers Union Camp Program
We’ve been working hard to make summer 2021 plans for Farmers Union Camp at WFU Kamp Kenwood. The good news is that we are planning on having in-person camp this summer, albeit in a limited capacity to allow for social distancing and cohorting, in keeping with best practices. Luckily, we’ve been able to add some sessions so we can accommodate as many families as possible.
Safety has always been a top priority at Farmers Union Camp, and we are taking extra health and safety precautions as we consider the impact of COVID on the camp experience. We want our campers to feel safe and remain healthy throughout their time at camp, and for their parents to be confident that we are taking care of the health of their children.
As a member of the American Camp Association (ACA), Wisconsin Farmers Union has been able to connect to a network of camp professionals. Through this network we were able to review the procedures of 150 other camps across the country and hear from the experiences of many families who sent their kids to camp in 2020. We used the input from these camps and families, as well as advice from the Association of Camp Nursing, to establish the changes that will take place at WFU Kamp Kenwood in the 2021 summer season.
Summer camp in the age of COVID may look different, but with some added health and safety protocols, your child can still experience the great impact of Farmers Union Camp this summer.
Please Note: These guidelines were established in April 2021 and may be adjusted as we get closer to the summer season and the CDC releases new regulations. To keep camp 2021 safe and open to as many families as possible, there will be certain requirements and guidelines we will be asking each camp family to follow.
Please read this entire page before pre-registering your child for camp.
PRE-REGISTER FOR CAMP HERE
Campers will be registered based on the priority tiers of registration: 1) self-selected cohorts of at least 6, then 2) individuals & smaller groups based on local groupings and remaining space available.
If you have any questions or want more information, contact Cathy at [email protected] or 715-214-7887. We look forward to engaging with Farmers Union camp families in a way that manages risk and reaches campers in safe, flexible, and accommodating ways.
ABOUT OUR CAMP
Generations of families have spent time each summer at Kamp Kenwood. In the 1940s, Wisconsin Farmers Union President Ken Hones began advocating for leadership training for farm boys and girls, believing that education was the cornerstone of a better future for rural communities. Farmers Union members from across the state donated their time and treasure to build a summer camp where youth could come together to have fun and learn. Named after the visionary who inspired this work, Kamp Kenwood’s 23 acres feature rustic cabins, hiking trails, sandy beaches, and a dining/activities lodge.
Located along beautiful Lake Wissota near Chippewa Falls, the camp is the ideal spot for youth from all across the Midwest to gather for cooperation, leadership and fun. Our education programs focus on cooperatives, family farms, sustainability, leadership, conservation, rural communities, social justice, and active citizenship. Our overnight camp activities include:
Just as they have for generations, Wisconsin Farmers Union Summer Youth Camps promise a summer experience that kids won’t forget. Learn more about a Day in the Life of a Camper. We hope you’ll join us this year!.

90,000 Summer Language Camps USA
Summer Language Camps will be a great experience for a student eager to get to know other countries and improve their language. Children find themselves in an intercultural environment, attend classes of experienced teachers, master classes and electives, go on excursions and just spend the summer in pleasure. Despite all the advantages, it is not easy for many parents to send their child to spend their holidays abroad on their own; many questions and doubts arise.Below we have compiled a list of the most common questions that parents have, and have given the TOPs of the best camps for schoolchildren.
US Summer Camps for Foreigners: Most Common Questions Parents Ask
Here we will talk about the most important thing – safety, conditions, programs, level and quality of language camps in the USA:
- Are there any language requirements?
For a successful stay, an initial, basic level of the language is recommended. All activities in US camps are playful in nature, joint activities become a universal language of communication, without exception, for all students. But still, students need a basic set of knowledge, the most essential phrases and grammatical structures. In this case, students will be able to achieve impressive results in the shortest time spent in the camp.
- Is there an interpreter at the camp?
The staff of summer schools is international, so there is always a teacher or someone from the staff with at least a basic level of Russian language proficiency. To be calm, make sure of this when booking a place at the camp.
- Those who go to the camp for the first time will not feel uncomfortable?
Each student becomes an active participant in exciting events, activities and the educational process in the camp!
- Is English taught as a foreign language at camp?
It all depends on the chosen summer school and program.
- How long is the camp shift?
Most camps offer programs ranging from one to two weeks to a month. As practice shows, foreign students achieve greater success if they stay in the camp for at least 2 weeks.
- What security measures does the camp take?
All camps presented on our website have passed all the necessary accreditation. The US Camp Association sets high safety standards – food and water quality, teaching staff requirements, the quality and safety of sports and training infrastructure, emergency precautions, and much more.
- What is the staff of the camp?
The camp staff is represented by the service and teaching staff. The camps often invite teachers from other countries to work, because the team includes native speakers and representatives of other nationalities for whom English is not native.
- How do schoolchildren spend their time in the camp?
Many summer schools offer a wide variety of recreational activities and excursions: water sports, dance, creativity, team play and much more. Each camp seeks to create a unique program, therefore it is recommended to definitely study activities and excursions when looking for a suitable camp.
- How often do children communicate with their parents?
Most camps for children provide an opportunity to contact parents as soon as they are in the camp. As for the rest, the policy differs – it should be clarified with the representatives of the summer school.
- Do international students attend day camps?
Yes, especially in New York when children are on vacation with their parents.
- What questions should you ask the camp director?
How often can I communicate with my child? How many Russian children attend your camp? It is worth clarifying the issues related to the transfer from / to the airport.
Children and parents share their experience of visiting summer camps

96% of children who attended summer camps in the USA made new friends here | 70% of parents confirmed that their children returned home happy and confident | 84% confirmed that they worked in a highly qualified team |

In a situation of political crisis that has been going on since the beginning of August 2020 – the first nights of police violence and days of mass mobilization, the phrase “Kozhny Zen” unites with a promise to take to the streets.
