NIKE sponsors CRABS LACROSSE
Baltimore Lacrosse Club, Inc. (“CRABS”) is proud to announce its sponsorship by Nike Inc. for all uniforms and apparel for the 2017-2020 lacrosse seasons.
Nike Lacrosse, headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon with lacrosse offices in New York, was launched with cleated footwear, lacrosse apparel and lacrosse team uniform offerings in 2000. In 2009, Nike introduced a full line of lacrosse equipment that included lacrosse heads, lacrosse shafts, lacrosse shoulder pads, lacrosse arm pads and lacrosse gloves. Within a few short years, the Nike Lacrosse brand has become a household name in the lacrosse industry by outfitting some of the top collegiate lacrosse teams in the country, including North Carolina, Syracuse and Johns Hopkins. Nike Lacrosse has also taken great pride in its relationship and sponsorship of the Iroquois National Lacrosse Team and honors the game’s roots through the Native American culture.
Team NorCal Lacrosse LLC
Team NorCal is the oldest, largest and most successful elite and lacrosse development program in the San Francisco Bay Area. 2021 will be our 12th year, and we now sponsor 16 teams across Youth, Middle School, and High School Boys and Girls Age Groups. We represent Northern California in local, regional and national lacrosse tournaments year round across the country, and won championships in such well known events as the Vail Shootout, the Maryland Summer Sizzle, the Santa Barbara Showdown, Pacific Lacrosse Festival, and Sandstorm. Over half of the US Lacrosse named HS All Americans and Academic All Americans in 2013 through 2019 in Northern California are Team NorCal alumni. Our players are now among the most highly sought after high school lacrosse players in California, and many now play for some of the best D1, D2, D3, and MCLA college programs around the country.
Team NorCal is a year round program which helps build great lacrosse players and even better student-athletes. We have a philosophy that is unique in today’s youth sports and travel team climate. We do not allow parents to coach or manage any of our teams.
We select our teams based on competitive tryouts every year. Our players are from throughout the Bay area – from San Francisco to Monterey, from Sacramento to Napa. We have done this for 11 years, and our track record speaks for itself.
Over 3,500 travel team players have passed through our program since 2008, when we were the first travel team to sponsor a year round travel program for kids from youth to high school in Northern California.
Several of them are now captains of their college teams. Other TNC alumni can say that they played an important role on teams that won an NCAA Lacrosse Championship – at D1, D2, D3 and MCLA levels. In fact, in 2015, Team NorCal alums played on the NCAA Lacrosse Championship teams Denver (D1) Limestone (D2), Tufts (D3) and Onondaga (JuCo).
We are most proud of what great people they have become. There are no million dollar contracts in the sport of lacrosse for professionals. There are, though, a world of rewards for those who challenge themselves and their teammates to excel at this sport. Lifelong friendships, learning how to work effectively in teams, the importance of hard work and sacrifice in pursuit of goals, and knowing how to win and lose are valuable life lessons we hope to teach though our program. And vital skills they can use to succeed in college and beyond.
Our coaches are among the most accomplished college, high school, club, and youth coaches in California. We practice on the best lacrosse field in the state of California at Palo Alto High School.

Special times for Crestwood lax – NEPA Sports Nation

By Tom Robinson, NEPASportsNation.com
LEHMAN TWP. – Thursday was a special day for the Crestwood High School lacrosse teams and, by extension, their feeder system, the Mountain Top Area Lacrosse Association (MALAXA).
Tuesday will be another.
The Crestwood boys and lacrosse teams simultaneously won District 2 Class 2A championships at different locations Thursday.
Tuesday, they will play together in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament doubleheader for the first time ever.
The girls, coming off their first District 2 championship in program history, open the Class 2A tournament against Villa Maria from suburban Philadelphia at Lake-Lehman at 1:45 p.m.
Crestwood’s boys, who made the state semifinals in 2019, follow in a 4 p.m. game against District 4 champion Lewisburg. The Comets, who have won four straight and five of the last six District 2 titles, already have a 16-3 victory over Lewisburg on their resume this season.
As his team celebrated that first title and word came in that the boys had also just won, Crestwood girls coach Russ Kile pointed to the man next to him, assistant coach Aaron Caporuscio, for his influence on the events of the day.
“It started way back when they were little kids with Aaron running MALAXA,” Kile said. “It wasn’t just by chance or by magic that the boys team built the way they did.”
With his girls teams closing in on the top ranks of Wyoming Valley Conference lacrosse – ruled, until this season, by Wyoming Seminary – one look at the boys team helped Kile realize something that could help get his program over the hump.
“That started with Aaron Caporuscio and MALAXA, so seeing how well they did through their seasons, it was almost a no-brainer for me to make it happen with the girls team and bring him on,” Kile said.
Caporuscio had a background in the sport, which did not exist in the Crestwood School District when he arrived in the area. He grew up near Syracuse, played some lacrosse in gym class in eighth grade, then took up the sport, giving up baseball, in high school because his football coach also coached lacrosse.
After playing defense on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level at the University of Albany, Caporuscio wanted to introduce the sport to his own children and the kids they grew up with around the Mountain Top area.
Caporuscio’s son Anthony set multiple state scoring records even though he never got to play his senior season because it was wiped out by the pandemic.
“It’s one of those things, 12 years ago when we started this little lacrosse program – when we came to the area there was no lacrosse – I remember saying it would be so cool if my son played lacrosse,” Caporuscio said.
His daughter Isabella, three years younger, followed. Currently a sophomore, Isabella never got to have a freshman season, but led all District 2 players in scoring this season.
With his daughter leading the historic half of the championship double, Aaron Caporuscio enjoyed Thursday’s developments.
“Those are the things, even as a coach, you dream of, that by the times these kids are in high school, they’re going to be something and they’re going to win a district title,” he said. “It’s something I’m extremely proud of. It’s all volunteer work that you’re doing for years and years and it’s a lot of time.
“To see it pay off, on the same night, with two district championships …”
There was no need to finish the thought.
What had started with U9, U11, U13 and U15 boys teams in 2009 had grown into what will be on display Tuesday.
Crestwood allowed for a boys club team to start in 2010.
MALAXA started a girls team in 2012.
Crestwood made boys lacrosse an official varsity sport in 2013 and began its first girls club team at the same time MALAXA found enough coaches to expand the number of girls teams offered.
“I fell in love with the sport, so I went to college for it,” Aaron Caporuscio said, “and you can see I still love it.”
Many playing at Crestwood and MALAXA clearly feel the same way.

- Making sure to squash any thoughts of a comeback, LR came out and scored the first three goals of the second half to extend the lead to 11-4.

- This was the hottest game of the season for these two teams as temperatures surpassed 90 degrees.
- Lenoir-Rhyne has beaten the number three, four and five teams in the nation in consecutive games.
- LR will advance to take on undefeated LeMoyne out of Syracuse, N.Y. who owns a perfect 14-0 mark on the season.

UP NEXT: The Bears will now travel to East Hartford, Conn. to take on LeMoyne next Sunday at 1 p.m. in the National Championship. Ticket information is set to be released by the NCAA tomorrow.
90,000 Strongest Nations in Civilization 5 | Games
On September 21, Civilization V celebrates its anniversary – the release of the turn-based strategy from Firaxis Games took place ten years ago. We decided to recall one of the best parts of the series and speculate which nations are the strongest in it.
One of the most important criteria for a good game, especially in the strategy genre, is balance. Civilization has been looking for itself for many years: studio Firaxis changed the rules, got rid of old mechanics, came up with new ones and eventually released the very part of the series that has been loved by players for ten years. In many respects, this became possible thanks to the not ideal, but competent balance of the nations represented in the “five”.
The strength of nations in Civilization V is rather arbitrary: each leader has a peak of power by epoch, and random factors such as a poor respawn location or the proximity of neighbors to the capital can affect everyone without exception. In addition, there are many development options in Civilization V, and a nation strong in military craft will surely be inferior in science to players whose strategy is based on pumping scientists and specialists. If the war does not go according to plan or the diplomacy of the opponents is at a higher level, even the most powerful army will die under the walls of the enemy city in a battle with units of a later era.
1/2
Civilization V Screensaver
I am sure that in most multiplayer matches, it is not the choice of the nation that decides, but the ability to play.At the same time, the peak of one of the leaders on my list will increase the chances of a comfortable start in FFA according to one of the strongest strategies – each hero and player has its own. In single-player games, you can choose absolutely any leader, especially if you do not set yourself the task of quickly defeating the AI.
The choice of a nation in Civilization V can also be influenced by the peculiarity of the game lobby: if familiar opponents have gathered in it and you understand that they will certainly not spare their neighbors and will go to war against them already in ancient times, then the choice of a leader who likes to develop for a long time, can be fatal.I am a pacifist and love to “build houses”, so I often see chariots under my walls. All my friends are aware that my passion to go along the upper branch of development, where mainly scientific technologies are collected, often overpowers logic – the need to learn a lesson in several stages of the military craft is “forgotten.”
There are players who liked the bonus of one of the leaders – they consider it the best and even “bend” everyone in the online games only on it. Those same “Where is my favorite hero? Fu, author of the bottom…” in comments. My rating is subjective, but it will help casual players who do not have the baggage of thousands of hours online to make their choice. For experienced users, I advise you to play at random – it’s more interesting.
1/2
Desktop wallpaper based on Civilization V
Sometimes in online games, especially if it is a tournament, the players ban the most powerful, in their opinion, nations. This is one of the criteria by which I made the rating, because at a long distance you can see which of the leaders most often fall on the block list. I also took into account the opinion of experts – for example, I looked at the portal of the streamer Alexei Khaletsky, and also looked through the thematic forums. And, of course, she herself played enough in Civilization V to advise you on certain strong leaders.
Each civilization has a bonus from the leader, a unique building or units. The location of the nations is scripted, some of them cannot appear in the “unfavorable” climate – in the tundra or the desert. Many respawn on rivers or near the water, and some have a very good ability, therefore, on the contrary, they sacrifice a territory with a lot of resources. I will pay more attention to the features that make certain nations stronger than others.
1. Babylon
- Leader: Nebuchadnezzar II.
- Bonus : after the discovery of writing, a great scientist is given, and then they begin to appear 50% faster.
Babylon is the strongest civilization in the early game. The first scientist after the appearance of writing perfectly boosts scientific progress, and a passive bonus of 50% accelerated appearance of subsequent Nobel laureates allows not to sink in the future. Usually, if a nation is geared towards science, then in the early game it is easy to fight with it, but with Babylon it is not so simple. Unique units of this civilization replace the main firepower of antiquity – archers. Akkadian archers have 2 more defenses and attacks than ordinary fighters, so they always win battles.
1/2
Babylon leader Nebuchadnezzar II in Civilization V
Even if you managed to fight the army of Babylon, it is not so easy to storm it: instead of the usual walls, Nebuchadnezzar II builds the Ishtar Gate. This unique building makes the process of defending even against powerful armies much easier, since its parameters are higher than those of ordinary walls – by 50 health and a defense point.
Many people know that it is Babylon who can quickly overgrow one of the coolest wonders of the world in the early game – the Great Library, and without much effort. The turn on which this miracle will be erected depends on the place of construction of the city and the cells in its starting border. On average, it is Nebuchadnezzar II who makes her faster than other leaders; only Egypt with a bonus to miracles or a nation with a very good starting potential can compete with him. How can you prevent them from doing this if you choose Babylon?
The first technology to learn is pottery. The first inhabitant must occupy the cage with the maximum possible amount of food, and the next one must sit on the cage with the production when he spawns. If you are lucky enough to get a bonus faith from the ruins or from a nearby city of the state, it makes sense to take the pantheon for a bonus to the construction of wonders of the world. The first buildings were a monument and a barn, or a scout and a barn. The second option in multiplayer games is preferable, especially if you find culture to study the bonus from the public institute “Tradition”. So you will not waste time studying the territory, which in the future will help to correctly locate the cities.Remember, rushing a miracle in FFA is a huge risk and more often than not worth it. But if you really want to, then you can.
Once you learn writing, your first scientist is born. His task is to found an academy, preferably on a cage with a forest. Thus, he will give the capital not only a good cage with science, but also instantly bring production for cutting down trees. Once the construction of the Great Library has begun in the capital, all residents must process production cells.
Babylon is strong in FFA, and few people like to play against it. The difficulty of assault in the early game and the bonus to science make Nebuchadnezzar II’s civilization very powerful … but only in the right hands.
2. Empire of the Huns
- Leader of : Attila.
- Bonus : Cities are destroyed twice as fast. Names for cities are taken from other powers. At the beginning of the game there is a technology “Livestock”. Pastures give +1 production.
If you love fighting in ancient times, the Huns are the best choice. In defense and scientific discoveries, this nation is not enough stars from the sky, but it can conquer its neighbors and get their cities.
1/2
Leader of the Hunnic Empire Attila in Civilization V
The main strength of the Huns is in units. On horseback, they gallop through the territory, not dividing it into “their” and “alien”, because if the chariot of the Huns passed somewhere, it means that this territory now belongs to Attila.Horse archers of civilization replace ordinary ones, have one more strength and receive a 15% bonus to shelling in open areas. And besides, they do not require horses, although civilization can process them immediately.
Attila has no unique building. Instead, the second personal unit is “Battering Ram”. He helps not only to fight, but also to conquer enemy cities with lightning speed. The “Ram”, which replaces the standard spearmen, has +300 strength to attack cities, but it cannot hit ordinary soldiers.
Usually nations that develop one-sidedly cannot show class at a distance. The Huns, due to almost always successful early aggression, compensate for the roughness that may arise in scientific development. In the end, if you have two capitals, it becomes much easier to play.
3. Shoshone
- Leader : Pocatello.
- Bonus : Found cities start with additional territory. Units receive a bonus to combat strength when they fight in their own territory.
Shoshone is the perfect beginner nation. In the game with friends, she forgives many mistakes, and it is not so easy to conquer her – thanks to the passive bonuses of the nation. In addition, Shoshone can choose any path of development – from religious to scientific – and in general feel great at any stage of the game.
1/2
Shoshone leader Pocatello in Civilization V
Once your city is on a scenic hill, build at least two scouts. If the map is large, you can think about four units of this type, since in the early game Pocatello’s task is to give orders to search for ancient ruins. Unique rangers not only have 3 more strengths than ordinary fighters of this type, but also know how to choose bonuses from ancient settlements that other civilizations receive randomly. Pulling an additional resident out of the ruins and planting him on a succulent cage that has already been attached to the capital through a passive bonus is great.
Shoshone Cavalry is 25 production cheaper than regular units and has a movement bonus. If you really want to, then the Shoshone army can score to the enemy’s borders in a matter of seconds.
The main advantage of the Shoshone is flexibility. You can even progress along the cultural line and get a starting cultural bonus from the ruins on the fly. If you are very lucky, in the first rounds you will have both a free technology and a capital that is “eaten away” on several processed cells. Is this not a guarantee of success with straight arms and a bright head?
4. England
- Leader : Elizabeth.
- Bonus : +2 to the movement of all sea ships and an additional spy.
The Lady of the Seas Elizabeth can easily beat you on the map with the oceans. With fast travel and a predominantly maritime infrastructure that includes trade routes by water, England is second to none in the middle of the party.
1/2
Leader of England Elizabeth in Civilization V
Although it is not spelled out anywhere, most often, when playing for England, I appear somewhere on the edge of the map, where a simple “Ay!” do not shout.Even on a tiny map, London manages to line up in such a way that it is difficult for ground forces to approach it with an enemy army, but on the water we are always ahead. There are also disadvantages – for example, the tundra or the desert, which is always somewhere nearby, if not in the city itself. Not Russia, of course, but little pleasant.
England is weak on land. Something can be shown by the unique units of the yeomen, replacing the crossbowmen, but in their right mind, hardly anyone decides to attack Elizabeth during this period. Before or after storming cities can be done without much difficulty.I prefer to play England so that the bonus spy is not used as an opportunity to steal valuable technology. Just something business: to be ahead of the whole map in the study of the skill tree.
A unique battleship that replaces a conventional frigate is very good. This ship has one more sight radius and a lower production cost. At the same time, he has an increased long-range attack, and therefore even enemy fleets equal in number of units will fall faster under your fire.In general, if you wanted to play on the islands or archipelagos and bend everyone down, then fight for England with other users. It is unlikely that you will be allowed to utter it without pretensions in the spirit of: “Aha, I’m going to play on imba!”
5.Russia
- Leader : Catherine II.
- Bonus : Strategic resources give +1 production. The state receives doubled horses, iron and uranium.
I thought for a long time whether it was worth including Russia on this list on purpose, because patriots would not forgive me for her absence in any case. However, the decisive factor was … the strength of the nation. Russia really shows itself well in online games and has the potential to win.
The main problem of Russia is the appearance of a map in the most unattractive places. In the tundra, which usually borders on snow, which does not provide any bonuses. In general, the implementation of the Siberian expanses and harsh climate in most of the country by the Firaxis studio was a success. The bonus is also suitable – there are enough strategic resources in real Russia. And when you first read it, you wonder why such a strong bonus appeared in the game.
1/2
Leader of Russia in Civilization V
Thanks to the large amount of iron and horses, Russia can build more units, but maintaining an army is an expensive pleasure. It is important for Catherine II not to sink in gold, because the leader cannot get it quickly. The strategic location of cities is also very important: in Civilization, giving Moscow to Napoleon is a bad idea.
Unique units of Russia, Cossacks, replace cavalry. They deal 33% more damage to wounded enemies – a nice little thing. Ostrog, a unique building that is built instead of barracks, allows you to expand boundaries for money and culture 25% more efficiently. My native country is wide …
The peak of Russia’s power comes in the middle of the game, when the resource bonus begins to accelerate production to unprecedented levels. If, at the same time, there are combat frigates in St. Petersburg, and freedom-loving Cossacks roam the borders, a rare enemy will risk attacking the subjects of Catherine II. After all, everyone knows the story.
… And other nations
There are no non-playable leaders in Civilization V. Even Portugal, Indonesia and Morocco, which few people like in FFA, can become leaders on the map and register any of the possible victories. They were not included in the top five, but they can well compete with the nations from my top 5:
- Korea – a cool bonus to science, but there are no ways to defend yourself at the start of the game.
- Poland – free public institutions allow you to develop faster than other countries.
- China – a fighting power unmatched in the Middle Ages.
- Celts – good starts and flexible pumping, with a good location, a lot of religion points at the start of the game.
- Venice – Master of Puppets.
- Carthage is my favorite nation, which, although inferior to others in exceptional power, allows me to enjoy the game. Free harbors and mountain travel rule.
Who is your favorite leader in Civilization V?
The Urbanization Index is a comparative analysis of statistics on the share of urban population in the total population of countries and territories of the world, published by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Affairs). The level of urbanization is understood as the share of the urban population in the total population. In this ranking, this indicator is calculated as the percentage of a country’s population living in areas that are classified as cities according to the criteria used in that country. Published every two years, based on statistical data from national institutions and international organizations. It is considered one of the key (albeit indirect) indicators of socio-economic development, therefore it is widely used for calculating social development indices by various international organizations, as well as in the World Population Prospects series of the United Nations (UN) reports. Urbanization of a country is a process of increasing the share of the urban population, which is accompanied by an increase in the economic, political and cultural significance of cities in comparison with rural areas. In most countries of the world, there is a steady trend towards urbanization, which is a natural consequence and stimulus of economic development going through the stages of industrialization and post-industrialization. Therefore, the level of urbanization, as measured by the percentage of the urban population to the total population of a country, is especially high in developed countries and much lower in countries with low per capita income (see Fig.Ranking of the countries of the world by the level of gross national income per capita). At the same time, the rate of urbanization in developing countries is now much higher than in developed countries. It should also be borne in mind that in developing countries, where the population is higher, this figure corresponds to a larger number of people. As a result, most of the world’s most populated cities are located in this group of countries. Currently, the majority of the world’s population lives in cities and this proportion continues to grow. However, despite the fact that the rapid growth of cities is observed in almost all countries of the world, the levels of urbanization in different geographic regions are very different. While most Latin American countries are as urbanized as European countries, South Asia, East Asia and Central Africa remain predominantly agricultural. The indicator of the level of urbanization of the countries of the world is updated every two years, while reports with UN data, as a rule, are delayed by one or two years, since they require international comparison after the publication of data by national statistical services. |

What is the current number of tanks in the game?
At the moment, the World of Tanks game features more than 500 combat vehicles of the USSR, Germany, USA, France, Great Britain, China, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Italy and Poland.
What types of armored vehicles are in the game?
The game features tanks and other armored units from the USSR, Germany, USA, France, Great Britain, China, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Italy and Poland, produced and designed from the 30s to the 50s of the XX century.Players have at their disposal light, medium and heavy tanks, as well as anti-tank (PT-ACS) and artillery (ACS) self-propelled guns. In addition to production cars, prototypes are involved in the game, such as the German VK.
What role do tank destroyers and self-propelled guns play on the battlefield?
As in the real battles of World War II, the role of these devices in World of Tanks can hardly be overestimated. Anti-tank self-propelled guns are an ideal means of defense. Their powerful guns allow them to hit enemy units from a long distance, and their thick frontal armor guarantees a high level of frontal protection. On the other hand, lack of mobility and weak rear and side armor make them vulnerable in close combat.
The SPG has a slightly different role. They work closely with light tanks, which use reconnaissance to “highlight” enemy units for self-propelled howitzers. The extremely powerful cannons of the self-propelled guns, with a well-aimed hit, can severely damage the tank and stun its crew. However, howitzers are also very vulnerable in close combat.
What is the role of light tanks in the game?
First of all, light tanks are excellent scouts, capable of quickly finding and neutralizing enemy artillery.Secondly, their mobility and large viewing radius allow them to quickly find enemy vehicles and transmit their coordinates to allied howitzers. Thirdly, they are most effective in close combat against enemy light tanks and, therefore, can defeat them on their own territory. The development of the line of light tanks, despite their meager armor and low-power guns, makes sense. Moreover, pumping a good light tank will take much less time than developing a medium or heavy tank.
What is the role of medium tanks?
Medium tanks are designed for mobile combat. Rapid flank breakthroughs and strikes from the rear, destruction of enemy artillery, hunting for single heavy tanks – these are just some of the tasks assigned to the CT in the game.
What role do heavy tanks play on the battlefield?
Heavy tanks are the main striking force of the team. They are equipped with powerful cannons and strong armor. The fist of heavy tanks is the best way to crush enemy defenses or hold off the onslaught of his forces.
Gameplay
How realistic is World of Tanks?
The game strikes a balance between realism and comfortable gameplay. World of Tanks is not a hardcore simulator: players do not have to spend time learning a complex control system. On the contrary, the difficulty of the game is based on the skill of the players to apply tactical thinking.
To what extent does the gaming technique correspond to historical prototypes?
The vehicles presented in the game are as similar as possible to their historical prototypes in appearance and are comparable in terms of tactical and technical characteristics. This means that their speed, maneuverability, maneuverability, turret traverse speed and rate of fire are the same as that of real tanks and self-propelled guns in range conditions. In addition, elements such as the location of modules and crew members, the number of shells in ammunition load, etc., correspond to historical prototypes.
To what extent does the behavior of vehicles in the game correspond to the real ones?
The developers have made every effort to make the behavior of the game models as accurate as possible. When firing on the move, the probability of hitting is reduced, the terrain and the ground affect the dynamics of the vehicle, projectiles of various types have different flight speeds. After the introduction of new physics in update 0.8.0, it became possible to fall off a cliff or push an enemy, drown, fast tanks drift around corners. A projectile hit not only inflicts damage on the vehicle, but can also concussion a crew member, set the tank on fire, and damage one or another module.
How long does one battle last on average?
In modes “ Standard battle ” and “ Encounter battle ” each battle takes from 5 to 15 minutes. If, after 15 minutes, armored vehicles from each side remain on the battlefield and none of the bases is captured, a draw is declared.
In the mode “ Assault ” the battle takes up to 10 minutes. If, after 10 minutes, the attacking team failed to break the resistance of the defenders or capture their base, the victory of the defensive team is declared.
Do newcomers have the opportunity to practice before entering the “adult world”? Is the training mode available and can it be turned on offline?
For beginners, in-game training and a sandbox mode are available, in which for the first 10 battles there are only tier 1 vehicles, then the threshold rises: tier 1–2 vehicles. This will help new recruits get comfortable with the technique, control system and gameplay. Training modes are available online.
Which view is the main one in the game? How difficult is the management?
The main view in the game is from the third person, with four modes of distance from the tank and the ability to freely move the camera around the vehicle. In addition, there is a first-person view, which includes the so-called. “Sniper mode” for tanks, as well as “howitzer” mode for long-range artillery, in which the map is viewed from a bird’s-eye view, also with the ability to zoom in / out of the camera from the ground. The game uses standard controls: WSAD keys plus mouse control. In addition, players can use “cruise control” to move both forward and backward. To do this, use the R and F keys, respectively.
Does the game have auto homing?
The game has auto-homing, which allows you to shoot at a moving enemy. To enable auto-guidance, you need to aim the sight at the enemy tank and press the right mouse button.
Is there a disguise in the game?
Disguise is present. At the moment, there is a coefficient that determines how close you need to drive up to a hidden tank in order for it to become noticeable. Bushes and especially walls are the best way to hide from the enemy. A camouflaged tank can “betray” itself by starting a movement or opening fire – its silhouette becomes visible. In addition, a special camouflage for tanks has been introduced in the game, which also adds a small percentage to stealth.
Is there division by nation in battle?
Each time before the start of a battle, the game distributes combat vehicles into two teams, trying to maintain an optimal balance and balance of forces. At the same time, the nationality of the equipment is not taken into account: teams can be mixed.
Are there any machine guns in the game?
Machine guns are present on tanks, but their use is not expected, since even the most powerful machine gun is not able to harm a well-armored tank.
What types of shells are available in the game?
Depending on the cannon installed and the shells used on it, players can buy high-explosive, HEAT, APCR and armor-piercing shells for their vehicles.
Will free cam mode be available after the tank is destroyed?
The game has a “tracking camera” mode, in which the player, whose tank was hit, can follow the allies remaining in the battle. To switch between allies after the destruction of your tank, press the right mouse button.
Cards
What is the typical size of a combat map and why are these values chosen?
Currently, the average map size is 1 square kilometer for rural areas and slightly less for city maps. These dimensions are optimal for providing interesting gameplay, since, on the one hand, players can stick together on the battlefield, and on the other hand, tanks need relatively large space for normal maneuvers, ambushes and flanking maneuvers.
The size of the map also depends on the number of elements placed on it, and a simple rule applies here: the smaller the objects on the map, the larger it can have. Therefore, desert maps, for example, can be as large as 25 square kilometers.
In addition to this, the game has oversized maps for battles 30 by 30 in the General Battle mode.
Are there destructible items on the maps?
There are destructible objects on the maps. The plans include the destructibility of the maximum number of objects on the map, and this will have its pros and cons. For example, the player will be able to punch a hole in a wall and use it as an embrasure to fire at an enemy. On the other hand, seemingly reliable protection can be extremely vulnerable.
Will players be able to play at different times of the year, time of day, and in different weather conditions?
It is planned to introduce different times of the year, but they can be seen on different maps. As for the time of day, there will be a different level of illumination and, accordingly, a different level of visibility. The battles will take place both under a clear sky, and in rain or fog, when the battle is actually going on by touch.
The names of some maps coincide with the locations of the legendary battles. Are they identical to the historic area?
It is very difficult to make a game card identical to its prototype, because when creating a card it is necessary to achieve an optimal game balance, which in real life was out of the question. Nevertheless, the maps are visually similar to the originals, and when creating them, photographs and drawings of real-world terrain are actively used.
Development
What is a pumping tree?
All World of Tanks vehicles belong to one of 11 nations: USSR, Germany, USA, France, Great Britain, China, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Italy and Poland. When playing as a tank of one of the nations, the player must go through the path of development, built in the form of a “tree” with several branches and lines of development.
How is the leveling up to the next level tanks?
Each tank has its own “Development” section. By participating in battles and earning experience and credits, the player can research more advanced elements of the tank (guns, chassis, radio stations, turrets, engines) and install them on the tank. As soon as a player researched a module that was installed on a tank of the next tier, this tank becomes available for research for experience and subsequent purchase for credits.
If during pumping you decide that you have chosen the wrong path of development, you can switch to another by moving a few levels back to the intersection of the branches of the pumping tree.
Do the tanks have crews?
Each car has its own crew. Each crew member occupies a certain place and has its own qualities that affect the corresponding characteristics of the tank. The number of crew members in the tank corresponds to the real historical one.
Tankers develop their abilities relatively quickly. This means that during the pumping of the tree, it will be possible to fully develop several crews specialized for specific tanks.
What are the additional skills and abilities of the crew for?
After upgrading the crew to 100%, its development does not stop. The player becomes available to develop specific skills and abilities that will make tankers even more qualified and skilled. For example, the development of the camouflage skill will make the tank less noticeable, and the training of the Sniper skill by the gunner will increase the probability of critical damage to enemy modules and tankers.Skills are both general, available to all crew members, and specific for each specialty. For some tanks, crew members combine two specialties. In this case, they have access to skills for both specialties.
Additional skills begin to operate only after learning up to 100%, and skills affect the characteristics of the tanker from the very beginning of the study.
Can you store more than one armored unit in your garage?
By default, each player can keep up to 12 vehicles in his hangar, regardless of the nationality of the vehicle. For an additional fee, you can increase the number of slots for tanks in the hangar, thus expanding your personal fleet of armored vehicles. Also, additional slots for vehicles can be obtained as a reward for completing Daily tasks, Personal combat missions, for completing some game events, as well as when purchasing equipment if its kit includes a slot.
How does the World of Tanks financial system work?
The game contains credits that the player earns by participating in battles, as well as in-game gold, which can be purchased for real money or earned in game events. The presence of gold will give the player the opportunity to purchase certain bonuses, but will not be able to provide him with a decisive advantage in battles.
“World War”
Are there clans in the game?
Yes, for a certain number of credits, any player can create his own clan. Each clan can have up to 100 members.
What are the types of clan battles?
Inter-clan tournaments are implemented in the game. However, perhaps the most exciting part of the clan game is the “World War” on the Global Map, where battles for territories unfold.
How are clan wars organized?
In clan mode, the game is played on the Global Map, divided into many provinces, similar to the historical lands that existed during the Second World War. Entering the Global Map, each clan will have to capture one of the coastal (starting) provinces. The clan will get the free province without a fight, while the territory occupied by another clan will have to go into battle.
Will the occupied territories supply the clans with resources?
Provinces are divided into several categories – from common to key (“capitals”).Depending on the type, the captured province supplies the clan with a certain amount of resources (currently – game gold). Key provinces generate much higher income.
How are the battles for the provinces organized?
Each clan has a certain number of “chips” (equal to the number of members of the clan). By placing tokens on provinces on the Global Map, a clan indicates its claims to it. If, at the same time, another clan places its own token or several on the selected province, or this province is already occupied by another clan, the two clans must converge in a battle for it.
Fortifications
What is a Stronghold?
“Strongholds” – a new game mode for clan players. It is available in the game client and has nothing to do with battles on the Global Map. The Stronghold is understood as the property of the clan, which consists of a virtual military base, directions leading to it and additional buildings. The stronghold can be created free of charge by the clan commander at will.
How many people must a clan have to create a Stronghold?
There are currently no restrictions on the number of players in a clan for creating a Stronghold.
What is the Stronghold in the game?
Stronghold is a virtual clan base in the game client. While developing their Stronghold, a clan can erect buildings in order to gain access to a variety of bonuses that can be activated for a certain period of time. For example, increased income based on the results of any battles or accelerated leveling of crews. It all depends on the development strategy of the Stronghold. The current version of the mode is just the beginning of work. Many innovations are planned for the near future. For example, after reaching a certain level of the Stronghold, players will be able to attack enemy Strongholds and defend their own. At the same time, unique opportunities will appear in battles, such as reconnaissance from the air, shelling, the creation of minefields, and much more.
Why start playing Strongholds?
Primarily for the sake of bonuses, which are conventionally called reserves. These bonuses apply to all clan members in all battles without exception, be they random or battles on the Global Map.
Bonuses can be very diverse: for combat experience, for credits, for crew experience, and so on.
Strongholds is a free mode that does not require spending game gold. It makes it possible to receive bonuses without investing real money, almost the same as those provided by a premium account.
How
“Fortifications” differ from the Global Map ?
The number of provinces on the Global Map is limited. At the same time, any clan can create its own Stronghold and receive bonuses from it.
When playing on the Global Map, you must adhere to the battle schedule. You can go into battle for an industrial resource in the “Strongholds” mode at any time when a team has gathered.
To land on the Global Map, you must successfully complete the landing tournament. A weak clan is not always able to do this or not the first time. In battles of the “Strongholds” mode, at any outcome of the battle you will receive an industrial resource and will be able to use it to develop the Stronghold or prepare reserves.
Will I be able to play Strongholds if I am already playing on the Global Map?
If you are playing on the Global Map, nothing prevents you from fighting for an industrial resource in the “Fortifications” mode during a break between battles for provinces.
A lot of time passes between battles on the Global Map. Spend this time fighting for industrial resources! This will allow you not only to increase the number of battles, but also to receive more bonuses.
Not all clan fighters can get into battles on the Global Map.Those who do not participate in the battles for the provinces today can go on sorties and earn bonuses for the entire clan.
Is the Stronghold a Farm Frenzy?
No, unlike browser games, the industrial resource for the development of the Stronghold can only be earned in battles. And the effect of all bonuses from the Stronghold is associated only with battles. Industrial resource cannot be exchanged for any property. It is spent only on the construction of buildings and the preparation of reserves (bonuses).

“Wild nineties and well-fed zero years in Dagestan bore fruit”
Scientist, entrepreneur, writer Said Ninalalov gives an honest and tough assessment of the changes that have taken place in Dagestan in the past 25 years, and tells how and why he took up the pen.
– What was Dagestan like in your childhood and adolescence?
– I was born in 1964 in Makhachkala. It was a calm, quiet southern city with factories, factories, universities. Every second citizen was Russian, but there was no division into nations. At home they spoke their own language (until I was three years old I did not know Russian), on the street – in Russian. Until now, I do not know the nationality of all my classmates.
I am a Kubachin, a representative of a small unrecognized nationality, our language is spoken only in two villages of Dagestan – in Kubachi and Sulevkent. Kubachi is famous for jewelry craft, Sulevkent – for pottery.I will never forget how in the first grade they called roll-call and asked all the children – who is what nation. When I answered “Kubachin”, Nonna Evgenievna, my first teacher, answered: “There is no such nation.” I burst into tears – it was so offensive: “I exist, but my nation does not.” Today I am working to make the Kubachin nation stand out as a separate ethnos, not to consider our language a dialect of the Dargin language, which is close to ours, but, nevertheless, different. Our village of craftsmen is surrounded by Dargin villages, but this village is unique due to customs, rituals and, especially, the fact that in our village they were engaged in handicrafts in every house: in the old days they made chain mail, edged weapons, in the XIX century – jewelry, in the XX-XXI centuries – silverware.
My childhood passed in the most peaceful and calm time, which is now called stagnant. Warm, kind, sunny city. Dad is the dean of the building department of the university, mom is a housewife, there are four of us: my sister, me and two twin brothers. The youngest brother was born in the mid-70s.
Soviet Union. Everything is predetermined. October, pioneer, Komsomol member, communist. Schoolboy, student, physicist. Until 1991, everything went like this. The best student in the class. The best student of the stream at the Dagestan Polytechnic Institute.Mom didn’t let me go to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology: “You are soft, any girl in Moscow will turn you around”. Apparently, due to the small size of our nation and the uniqueness of the Kubachi craft, in those years, parents did not marry their children to girls of another nation and did not give their daughters off as “strangers.” Again, the late mother said: “You can marry a girl of any nation if she is Kubachin.”
1985 – after graduating from the institute with honors – the army. It did not occur to me to turn away from her.Not only because they may be considered inferior, it was just a shame for a young man not to join the army, not to pay back his debt to the Motherland.
Since 1987, after being demobilized from the army, I went to work at the Dagestan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, went from an engineer to a research assistant. From 1988 to 1992 he taught programming at the Polytechnic. In 1989-1991, together with his brothers, he worked in the first joint venture in Dagestan “Energoinformatika”.
In the summer of 1990, a year before Yeltsin and his entire camarilla, seeing what was going on with the Communist Party, perestroika, the country, our whole family – my dad, I’m twin brothers, surrendered our party cards.
In the summer of 1991 in Kiev at the Institute of Metal Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian USSR, in the last months of the USSR, I defended my dissertation and became a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.
– What has changed now: people, everyday life, traditions?
– The wild nineties and well-fed zero years in Dagestan bore fruit. Complete destruction of industry. Agriculture – viticulture – managed to destroy Gorbachev and Ligachev in the 80s.
Mass outflow of intelligentsia – Jews, Russians.Departure of scientists, teachers, skilled workers. National, rather, nationalist movements. An outburst of religiosity, an outbreak of Wahhabi sentiments, the separation of some villages from state power (“Sharia is in effect on this territory”). War in neighboring Chechnya, economic blockade of Dagestan. Robbery of trains Moscow-Makhachkala on Chechen territory. Widespread construction of mosques.
In parallel with the departure of the Russian intelligentsia, the return of Dagestanis – oil workers, jewelers, intellectuals and workers – from the near abroad – Central Asia, Kazakhstan. The beginning of the departure from the cities of Dagestan of the intelligentsia – ethnic Dagestanis. A massive influx of mountaineers into the cities. If in Soviet times the highlanders became townspeople, step by step were drawn into urban life, became part of the urban environment, and learned a lot from the Russians, today the neophytes of Makhachkala bring their rural environment with them to the city, their customs and rituals. Makhachkala from a city of 300 thousand has turned into an agglomeration with more than a million inhabitants, with chaotic buildings, with a mess on the streets, into a large garbage pit. This was facilitated by the utterly greedy officials who sold and are selling everything – sidewalks, parks, squares. Today, there are places in the city where multi-storey residential buildings are located three meters from each other, gas stations – a meter from residential buildings.
Until recent years, we did not know what traffic jams are. According to the general plan of the city, designed for a maximum of 500 thousand inhabitants, wide streets with additional lanes were built in it in the 70s. Today these additional lanes have been destroyed and built up in many places. And in some places the streets have become like a bottleneck, a place of permanent cork.
In the cities of Dagestan, not the best representatives of youth float, who in the mountains were somehow hampered by customs and mountain concepts, and in the city, in freedom, these customs and principles are easily forgotten. Free – will. And the city turns into a large semi-wild aul. Some of them are crushed by universities, in which a certain kind of intelligentsia grows up. But this is very little. Considering that in Dagestan every third person is younger than 20 years old, one can understand that new citizens do not even know what urban life is, what the modern environment is, what order and cleanliness are.
– How does time flow in Dagestan?
– Dagestan is big and different. Time does not flow in Makhachkala – it flies no worse than Moscow time. When you go to work in the morning, you don’t always know where the night will find you. All young people are “on the hustle and bustle,” but you don’t know what the fuss is, what their movements are. Often because you yourself have a thousand things to do, most of which you don’t need at all.
And when you go to the mountains – peace and quiet, a measured calm life, where everything is planned and planned in advance, and tomorrow will not be much different from today. In Kubachi, for example, people are engaged in silver production, creativity, and “the service of muses does not tolerate” the same “fuss”.
– Every writer has his own strengths and weaknesses. What would you call the strongest and what – the weakest in your work and how did it come about?
– What I do, I would not call creativity. This is work on oneself, work on the text, the search for meanings. This is hard and not always rewarding work. When you immerse yourself in your text, and when the text captures you, you get a special pleasure, a special drive that is difficult to explain, to convey in words.
I will not reinvent the wheel, probably, but I have my own way of working on the text. Firstly, everyone around should be asleep, I can only work at night, in silence. I need this in order to choose the time and place for my story, raise the canopy and dive there, see my heroes, among which there are those I have just invented, draw their faces and characters, and listen to them, talk to them. I pour their stories into text. It happens that they interrupt each other, interpret the same events in different ways, but that’s what the writer’s job is to choose the best, the most interesting for me and, perhaps, for the reader, and the most, perhaps, truthful.By the morning I finish another episode of a long story and emerge, get out from under the canopy. And then for two or three days the heroes of this story, a freshly described episode, follow me: “You did not tell this and that! Why did you say that about me, I don’t look like that at all! ”
There are very, very many weaknesses in my work: I do not know how to write the beginning of a story. In order to enter this time, I need to remember the rulers of “that era”, about what was happening in the country, and maybe in Dagestan at that time.Probably it is impossible to compare, but I am trying, like Victor Hugo, to designate with a few phrases the year and time when the action takes place, to make you feel the smell of that time, that moment, to bring readers there.
I do not work much on the details of nature, on the descriptions of people. It seems to me that two or three phrases are enough to describe an earlier sunny morning in the mountains, or a summer thunderstorm in Moscow. And a few touches to introduce the hero or heroine of my story.
A huge disadvantage is the lack of imagination to compose a full-fledged large novel with many invented heroes. There are several ties, ideas, thoughts. But I’m too attached to documentary, non-fiction stories. The thing that I want to write should not talk about specific people – officials and bandits, whose names are on hearing. It is necessary to write in the spirit of Semyon Lipkin’s “Decade” and Yulia Latynina’s Dagestan novels.
Strengths? I do not know them. The readers I meet say that my stories are read in one breath. Many in the evening opened my small books and finished reading by morning without stopping.
– Are you from a creative family?
– Probably from the creative, but not literary. Creativity is in the blood of every Kubachin resident. Dad, being the dean of the construction faculty of the Polytechnic University, the largest faculty of the university, had many job responsibilities and very little free time. Coming home after a long day at work, he sat down to engrave silverware, and he taught us, the three eldest sons, this art, but on copper plates. And only in high school was he allowed to work on silver.
– How honored was literature in your family?
– The cult of the book has always been in the family. The library of world literature, collected works of Gogol, Turgenev, Lermontov, great classics have always been in the house. There were books by Dagestani poets and writers – Rasul Gamzatov, our Akhmedkhan Abu-Bakar, Effendi Kapiev, Musa Magomedov and many others. Books not only stood in the closet, they were read by dad too, mom also read a little, and we read a lot avidly.
I learned to read at the age of five, and since that time I have not parted with books. Today in my library there are about 12 thousand books, a lot of classics, science fiction, modern authors. I still bring books from business trips …
– What authors did you grow up with?
– My favorite authors of early childhood: Arkady Gaidar, Viktor Dragunsky, Viktor Golyavkin, Lev Kassil. I have read and reread his “Conduit and Schwambrania” many times. Then the time came for Veniamin Kaverin, Alexander Belyaev, Viktor Zheleznikov, the Strugatsky brothers, Stanislav Lem.And, already in high school, Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens, Honore Balzac, Fyodor Dostoevsky, whose “The Brothers Karamazov” was taken away to no one knows where, and, of course, in my opinion, the very, very, very Mikhail Lermontov. His “Hero of Our Time” is the best book of all times and peoples.
You can endlessly talk about the authors whom I love and read today. Ours are early Victor Pelevin, Oleg Gladov, Dmitry Lipskerov, Mikhail Elizarov, Andrey Gelasimov, Anya Starobinets, Zakhar Prilepin. Not ours – the classics and contemporaries – John Galsworthy, Joseph Heller, Thomas Wolfe, Ryu Murakami, Yu Nesbo, Peter Hög.In general, I can talk about reading and books for a very long time. For example, Soviet writers Vil Lipatov, Vladimir Tendryakov, Viktor Soloukhin, Veniamin Kaverin, Konstantin Paustovsky, Fazil Iskander, Bulat Okudzhava, Yuri Koval. Each of them is incredibly large.
– Who are your favorite literary heroes?
– My favorite characters are Yossarian, the superhuman from Amendment 22 by Joseph Heller, and George Webber, the protagonist of Thomas Wolfe’s No Returning Home.
– When did you conceive your first piece? How did the family react to your case?
– I am not a writer, I am a reader – as in a joke. I read and read from 30 to 150 books a year. On free days (in recent years there are no such days) I get up to 500 pages. There are always three or four books on the table in the process of reading. I read on the road, while eating, everywhere. And all my life I wondered, where did the authors get their stories from? Of course, I did not do any research on purpose, but there was always a slight misunderstanding: how the authors come up with plots. And only after being imprisoned in 2012 and having read Thomas Wolfe’s No Return Home in the camp quarantine, he realized that the plot could be his own life. The main character rushes about, worries, searches for himself, but he describes his own life, his own throwing, his own pains and joys.
If not for my difficult fate – business, crises, falls and new ups, the kidnapping and release of my brother, criminal prosecution, prison, I would never write.
In correctional colony IK-7 in the village of Tyube not far from Makhachkala, where the prison authorities assigned me, in the camp for the “first movers” I got a job in a library.”Pulled from the outside” in the camp computer, ostensibly to keep track of books, got a modem and took on a life of its own. Many times they searched me, took away modems and telephones that prisoners should not have, bought and “tightened” new ones, and lived like this, sitting in “classmates” and on Facebook.
With me in the camp were five guys who were convicted in the so-called “Manezhka” case. After listening to their story, reading volumes of their criminal case, since one of the guys had it in his arms, I turned to the famous young author Marina Akhmedova with the idea that she would write a real story of how everything happened. That there is no national motive in this case, that football does not warm these guys, and that the murder of Yegor Svirodov has nothing to do with them. I will collect information on her behalf, interview the guys. And she will write a documentary story. The other side of this story is “at will”, with them she herself can contact.
Marina advised me to start writing myself. And to begin with, to describe the actual life in prison, she is going to edit. And then it will be possible to move on to this story. This is how the “Notes from the Caucasian Prison” appeared, which were published on the website of the “Russian Reporter” magazine. There were six episodes from my prison life in total.
In parallel with this, an article about my history of Teymur Abdullaev in the Urban Legends series appeared in the Dagestan newspaper Svobodnaya Respublika. It told about the time when I started the business. I learned a lot of good things about myself … A few days later I contacted Teymur and told him a story that happened shortly before my arrest. He suggested – write, we will publish in the newspaper. This is how the short story “A Chance Meeting” appeared. My wife Zhemilat Ibragimova, who has been in journalism since the beginning of the 2000s, has worked on the text much more than I did. At first, Svetlana Anokhina, a well-known journalist, helped. The newspaper is a weekly. A week later we gave out the second story, then the third, and off we go. At some point, Zhemilat said: “That’s it, write yourself now, I think you can handle it.” And he began to write himself. Of course, she looks at the finished stories, edits, prompts. But these are my personal texts.
– Your books “Tin” and “Tin-2” made a lot of noise. Are these works completely autobiographical or is it fiction?
– To publish a book – I had no idea. The publisher and archaeologist Rabadan Magomedov and the historian Patimat Takhnaeva came to my prison with a proposal to collect all my stories, stories, episodes into one book. This is how Tin. Chronicle of our time “.The foreword to the book was written by Alisa Ganieva.
Friends helped me in choosing episodes for the book, in general in working on the book. Olga Trofimova, editor-in-chief of the Petersburg Oriental Studies publishing house, did a lot for me. Magomed Dibirov is the author of the picture on the cover of the book. A collage of his works also adorns the second book. The illustrations in the text were made by the young artist Murad Khalilov.
In “Zhest” there is a lot of autobiographical stories, stories from childhood, about the establishment of my family’s business, about how we were looking for a kidnapped brother. There are no fictional stories. Something from the life of Dagestan in the 90s, something from Moscow events. Most importantly, specific names are mentioned in the book, and not all are shown from the best side. For nearly four years that I have been at large, not a single person has approached me and charged me with lying.
However, the publication of the book “Tin. The Chronicle of Our Time ”caused not the best consequences for me in prison. The book contained three episodes from the camp life. The guards and prisoners recognized themselves in her.The guards – employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service saw in it a violation of the foundations of the camp regime and the disclosure of how the prison lives, how the regimes, thieves and the prison jamaat interact. The FPS demanded that the pages with the camp stories be destroyed in the circulation of the book. I was “pulled” to the place where 10 onlookers beat me, breaking my arm and ribs. For several days I lay unconscious, my relatives did not know what happened to me, why I was not in touch.
Six months after my release, my second book, Tin-2.Heroes of Our Time “. It has more stories not from my life, more heroes and “antiheroes”. It is somewhere softer, somewhere lighter, and there is no that anger, that hatred in it, as in the first one. For myself, I believe that this is a story or a novel about life in episodes. Each event in the books is tied to a specific date and place. The foreword to the second book was written by Denis Dragunsky, for which I am very grateful to him.
– Your books are quite famous in Russia. Have you thought about the adaptation of the books “Tin”, “Tin-2”?
– My books were published by the publishing house “Mavraev”, named Rabadan Magomedov after the name of the first publisher of pre-revolutionary Dagestan. They were published in a small print run of a thousand copies and were distributed only through one Arbat-Media store in Makhachkala, and at the Tarki-Tau book fairs. There are no books left. I miraculously saved one copy for myself.
I don’t think my books are famous in Russia. They were exhibited at several presentations in Moscow, where again mainly representatives of the Dagestan diaspora were present. The books were well received by those Moscow authors and critics to whom their copies reached.
Dagestani Muscovites have approached me several times about the adaptation of the books. And the film “Tin” will be created if I reformat the texts into a script. For me, drama, working on scripts is an unfamiliar business, while I’m a little afraid.
– For what audience do you write?
– I write about what worries me. I am writing a history of modern times. I want to expose and show everything that happened in Russia, in Dagestan. How the shell of a secular person turned out to be thin, and how easily the bestial, dirty, greedy opens up in him.Not to revel in all this abomination, but to keep it in memory. To whom – by edification, to whom – by a bad example. So that this does not happen again. So that the war in Chechnya does not repeat itself, so that kidnappings do not happen again, so that people know that it is possible to live beautifully and richly not at the expense of the lives and troubles of others.
Today, in many mass media, in social networks, the “heroes” of the 90s are glorified. I want to show them as they were. Where they showed incredible nobility, and where they acted unhumanly. This story will not be written by me alone. I will invite businessmen, scientists, cultural workers – participants and witnesses of those events to work. I will try to make a complete picture, take out the key events from the piggy bank of history, thanks to which we are where we are now – in fact, in timelessness …
– What is the attitude to women’s rights in Dagestan? Often journalists exaggerate the topic of the “doomed mountain woman”. What do you say?
– The topic of women’s rights is being discussed by journalists looking for an opportunity to become famous, they are trying to show themselves as human rights defenders, specialists on gender issues. Some bad cases that can occur in any region of Russia, they elevate to a systemic problem of Dagestan.
I will not compare the situation of women in central Russia and in Dagestan. Mountain women have considerable influence both in their families and in society, an example of this is the recent attempt to nominate the wife of the Dagestani mufti, the Muslim leader of the region, Aina Gamzatova, to the presidency of Russia.
Rasul Gamzatov’s “Highlander’s Constitution” will tell you the best about women’s rights in Dagestan. When you come to Dagestan, you will see that many stereotypes about our mountainous republic were invented by journalists who are looking for where it is hotter and sharper, and if they do not find it, they come up with it.
– You live in Dagestan and write in Russian. How much does geography influence the writing mentality?
– I did not speak Russian until I was three, and when I was five I was already reading Pravda and Izvestia. At six I went to an ordinary city Russian school. The Kubachi language became written only in the early 90s, when the first book in the Kubachi language by the medical professor of Kubachi Ibragim Shamov, “Malla Sittala Habart” – “Stories about Moll Nasreddin”, appeared. In 1997, my dad and I published the first Kubachin primer of our teacher Nabi Saidov-Akkut.
Since those five years the Russian language has become my mother tongue and, probably, the main language. And that’s why I think and write in Russian. There are more than 30 indigenous peoples in Dagestan, each has its own language, and Russian is the only language for interethnic communication.
Geography? The whole world is open today. For twenty years I have been shuttling between Moscow and Makhachkala, many times I have traveled to Italy for work.Of course, it’s easiest for me to write about Dagestan, to create my own Yoknapatofu. I know much more about my own little world. But everything else, the whole world is open for me, and for any other writer. If there is a plot, there will be a story. Of course, I will not write detective stories from American life, I will talk about what I know, remember and love. About what I can study, see the texture, understand for myself and raise the topic.
– What does modern Russian literature need? Which living writers are worth reading, for whom is there hope?
– In the readers.Judging by the results of the last book fair “Non / fiction”, there is a gradual increase in readership demand. Interest in the paper book has stabilized and began to grow slightly, and the e-book has long had a mass reader. And the reader will see the book if it is really good, and if it is available – in the store next door, on the website, where it can be bought in paper or electronic form.
I have already named contemporary writers. In addition to those mentioned, I will add those whom I consider obligatory to read: these are Denis Dragunsky, Alexey Slapovsky, Oleg Gladov, Tatiana Tolstaya, Narine Abgaryan, Ergali Ger, Georgy Zotov, Leonid Yuzefovich, Roman Arbitman. The list can and should be continued by those authors whose books are recommended by Konstantin Milchin on the Gorky website, and by Galina Yuzefovich. But I can’t keep up with them, I try to find the books of those whom they both highly recommend.
– How difficult is it for a modern prose writer to break through in Russia?
– One author is helped by a publication on the proza.ru website or on a social network. To the other, thick literary magazines. The third is its active propaganda in the media.
If in his texts the first readers will see something interesting, then word of mouth can bring to the “inhabitants of heaven” – to, for example, Tatiana Tolstoy. She will come down from Olympus, say a few words into space in a regal tone, and consider that you are in the “kings” – you have been heard. It is important that a well-known literary critic takes an interest in your text and takes the time to flip through it. Will really begin to read – and again you’re in luck.
Yes, luck is very important. But, first of all, you need good material, text, story, plot, plot, idea. Something that the reader’s eye will catch on. Something that will make him turn the page and continue reading.
– Do you believe in the real power of literary agents or is it an outdated concept today? Is the author breaking through himself?
– Among my friends there are well-known authors who themselves promote their own books, put them up for competitions, advertise on social networks, and their books are gradually being sold. There are authors whose names are already well known. Finishing one book, and handing over to an eagerly awaiting publishing house, they sit down to the next. As they say, Victor Pelevin’s work with the Eksmo publishing house is scheduled for more than 10 years.
For those who do not want or cannot engage in self-promotion, a literary agent is needed. For example, my work takes a lot of time, and I would like to shift the issues of republishing my books, preparing and publishing new ones – to the literary agent.Personally, I need a person with whom I would consult even about the plot. But there is no such thing yet. Soon it’s three years since my book “Children of the Mountains”, which contains published and new stories, is in a Moscow publishing house, but I myself don’t want to bother the editor of the publishing house, this is the work of a literary agent I haven’t found yet.
– What advice would you give to novice authors? Where can they find help and support?
– For aspiring writers – read and write.Learn from the greats, learn from the elders, learn from their peers, learn from the young. Move, travel around the country, study people. Search for plots, themes, ideas. And again, read and write.
To take part in various competitions, since now you do not need to send texts by mail. Participate in forums for young writers. The work that the Sergey Filatov Foundation does for young authors is invaluable. I saw the work of the foundation last summer in Dombai, where my wife Zhemilat Ibragimova was invited with the novel “Ties”.The three days of the literary marathon gave a lot of useful things to twenty young authors from all regions of the North Caucasus. By the way, we included the stories and poems of each of them in the second almanac “Caucasian Express-2017”.
There is one more point that must be mentioned. Success in your home republic does not necessarily lead to success throughout Russia. For us, Caucasians, for some reason in the post-Soviet period, a particularly high barrier. You need to have some special properties in order to jump over this barrier.Only a few of the contemporary authors receive Russian fame. For Muscovites, we are a distant provincial, peripheral, and even “non-Russian” literature, albeit written in Russian. I have no recipes for how to overcome this barrier. Perhaps only with especially bright, unexpected, interesting texts.
– What do you do besides literature?
– Soon it will be three years as I am the scientific secretary of the Institute of Geothermal Problems of the Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute is engaged in the study of underground hot waters, as well as the development and implementation of alternative energy – solar panels and collectors, wind power plants, small hydroelectric power plants, biogas plants.
I am in charge of the development, preparation and, most importantly, submission to a higher authority of plans for scientific work, reports and many current papers. The Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations, to which we are subordinate, turned scientific work into a parade of reports.Every year we must increase the number of publications; every year we must increase the number of young employees. There are a lot of absurd solutions that we have to work with.
I am working on my doctoral dissertation – studying the economics of alternative energy in the North Caucasus, developing proposals for its implementation in the regions of Russia.
In addition, I am a member of the expert council at the Anti-Terrorist Commission of Dagestan. Having lived in a prison – in a camp with representatives of the Salafis, I saw how ordinary thieves and drug addicts get hooked on the religious wave, and then, after being released, killing and blowing up law enforcement officers, they themselves perish. And I know how ordinary people turn into irreconcilable enemies of secular power. Therefore, I publish scientific and journalistic articles on the information fight against the ideology of religious extremism and terrorism.
Since 2014, the year of my release, I have been an active participant in the organizing committee of the Dagestan book fair “Tarki-Tau” – the brainchild of my friend, writer, artist, journalist Marat Gadzhiev. In 2016 and 2017, we published two issues of the “Caucasian Express” almanac, which included stories, poems, memoirs, letters, paintings, photographs, drawings of our friends not only from the Caucasus, but from different regions of the country and countries of the world.
Since the end of 2016, a group of proactive Makhachkala and Caspian residents “#GorodNash”, which I also enter, has been fighting against illegal buildings, with the destroyers of city parks. We managed to achieve the cancellation of the construction of the museum “Russia is my history” and its transfer to the building of the sports complex, which has not been completed since the end of the 90s. We managed to prohibit the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on the shores of Lake Ak-Gol.
Together with Marat Gadzhiev, we opened the publishing house “Caucasian Express”, where we have already published a book – a booklet of works by the famous Dagestan-Kubachi jeweler Alibeg Kurtaev. This year we are starting work on a series of books “Kubachinskaya Library”, which will be the first to include: Nikolai Baklanov’s book “Dagestan Goldsmiths”, which has not been republished since 1926, and a small original album of Boris Voitsekhovsky’s drawings, which describes the village of Kubachi.
And, of course, I write, I write, and I write. Articles in the weekly “MK in Dagestan”, materials for the website of our institute, scientific work.
– What are you working on now?
– In the summer of 2015, Zhemilat and the historian Bigruzi Suleimanov and I prepared a large colorful album “Balkhar – aul of potters”, where we talked about another Dagestan aul of crafts.Balkhar women for the third century are engaged in the manufacture of clay jugs, vases, toys, which until the Soviet era were a necessary part of the household of the highlanders of Dagestan. In Soviet times, Balkhar products lost their utilitarian meaning and became an interior item, exotic home decorations.
Today Zhemilat and I are working on a series of books “Famous Auls of Dagestan”. Small albums “Balkhar” and “Kubachi” are already ready for publication, then books about other centers of folk art will follow.
A large album is close to completion, which will consist of three books – “The Jewelry Art of Dagestan”, divided by dates: the first volume – “from ancient times to the October Revolution”, the second – “Soviet time”, the third – “Modernity”.
I am finishing a separate story, which will tell almost everything that I managed to find out about the abduction of my brother, about who ordered it, how the abduction took place. Some of the participants in this cruel crime were killed long ago for bad deeds, others received long sentences, and still others live and live – some abroad, some with the star of the Hero of Russia. The story is written differently, all events will take place in a fictional region of Russia – small, mountainous and very proud.
I continue the series of stories that both “Tin” consisted of. In what form the new book will be – I will not say yet, because I do not know.
I am slowly collecting material about the time of Shamil. I want to describe these years without embellishment, without exaggeration and metaphors, without delight and hatred. I want to show Imam Shamil as the participants in the Caucasian War knew him.My hero will be a Kubachin who does not participate in the war itself, but becomes a witness to many events, since he manages to sell his weapons both in Russian and in the mountain camp. I want to understand for myself and tell you why for 25 years a small mountainous country with innumerable victims fought for freedom against a huge, well-trained modern army.
There is also the theme of the villages of Dagestan, which in 1944 were not repressed, but their inhabitants, just like the Ingush and Chechens, were forced to pack up in half an hour and go to Chechen land.Such villages as Sulevkent, in the end, survived on the plain, in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan. And small villages – Amuzgi, Kala-Koreish disappeared from the face of the earth. Only ruins and the grave of the sheikh remained from Kala-Koreish, and the last resident died in Amuzgi not so long ago … I again very slowly write the history of the family, how she was evicted in 1944, what hardships she went through, getting to Chechnya, how she returned back to Dagestan, in which village she stayed, and how she lived on.
There are probably too many plans. But I have a strong desire to do all this, compensating for all those years in which I did not think that I would become a writer, that I would confide my thoughts on paper …
