Who are the most iconic anime girls wearing glasses. How do eyeglasses contribute to character design in anime. What personality traits are often associated with bespectacled anime characters. Which anime series feature prominent female characters with glasses.
The Appeal of Glasses-Wearing Anime Characters
Glasses have long been a popular accessory in anime character design, often used to convey certain personality traits or add visual interest. For female characters in particular, eyewear can serve multiple purposes – from emphasizing intelligence and studiousness to creating an air of mystery or adding a cute, nerdy charm. This article explores some of the most beloved and iconic anime girls who sport spectacles, examining how this simple accessory contributes to their overall character.
Intelligent and Analytical: The Genius Archetype
Many anime girls with glasses fall into the “genius” or “bookworm” archetype. Their eyewear serves as a visual shorthand for intelligence, analytical thinking, and academic prowess. Some prime examples include:
Yuki Nagato (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Though Yuki doesn’t technically need glasses, her spectacles contribute to her stoic, intellectual persona. As an alien interface designed to observe, Yuki’s glasses emphasize her role as a calm, analytical presence amidst the chaos of the SOS Brigade.
Manami Okuda (Assassination Classroom)
This shy chemistry prodigy uses her scientific knowledge for assassination attempts. Her large round glasses highlight both her academic skills and her endearingly awkward nature.
Saya Takagi (Highschool of the Dead)
The glasses-wearing genius of her zombie-fighting group, Saya’s quick thinking and analytical skills prove crucial to survival. Her eyewear emphasizes her role as the brains of the operation.
Dangerous Beauty: Glasses and Unexpected Lethality
In a subversion of expectations, some bespectacled anime girls are surprisingly deadly. Their glasses create a contrast between their appearance and their capabilities:
Sheele (Akame ga Kill)
This gentle-hearted assassin wields giant scissors with deadly precision. Her glasses emphasize her kind nature, making her lethal skills all the more surprising.
Hange Zoë (Attack on Titan)
A brilliant and eccentric scientist, Hange’s glasses highlight both her intelligence and her intense curiosity about Titans. This drive for knowledge often leads to reckless and dangerous behavior.
Hidden Depths: Glasses as Misdirection
Some anime girls use glasses to conceal their true nature or abilities:
Sumireko Sanshokuin (ORESUKI Are you the only one who loves me?)
Initially appearing as a stereotypical shy bookworm, Sumireko’s glasses hide her manipulative and cunning personality. She uses others’ assumptions about her to her advantage.
Moeka Kiryuu (Steins;Gate)
Moeka’s glasses contribute to her initial impression as a timid, socially awkward character. This facade hides her true role and motivations, which become crucial to the plot.
Iconic Designs: Glasses as a Signature Look
For some characters, glasses are an integral part of their iconic design:
Mirai Kuriyama (Beyond the Boundary)
Mirai’s red-framed glasses are a key part of her character design, emphasizing her cute yet powerful nature as a spirit world warrior.
Mari Illustrious Makinami (Neon Genesis Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance)
Mari’s glasses give her a distinctive look among the Evangelion pilots, highlighting her intelligence and slightly mischievous nature.
Breaking Stereotypes: Glasses and Character Subversion
Some anime girls with glasses challenge typical stereotypes associated with the accessory:
Karin Miyoshi (Yuki Yuna is a Hero)
While Karin wears glasses, she subverts the “weak bookworm” trope by being an athletic and fierce magical girl warrior.
Nobara Yukinokouji (Inu x Boku SS)
Nobara’s glasses emphasize her stern demeanor, but she breaks expectations with her passionate nature and ninja abilities.
Cultural Impact: Glasses Fetishism in Anime
The popularity of glasses-wearing characters has led to a specific subculture within anime fandom:
- Meganekko: A term for cute girls with glasses, often considered an appealing character type
- Glasses removal: A trope where a character becomes more attractive or reveals their true nature by removing their glasses
- Glasses-kun: Anthropomorphized versions of glasses as cute anime boys, popularized in certain manga and anime
Evolution of Glasses in Anime Design
The use of glasses in anime character design has evolved over time:
- Early anime often used glasses to denote intelligence or weakness
- Modern anime explores a wider range of personality types for glasses-wearing characters
- Stylish and unique eyewear designs have become more common, serving as fashion statements
- Some series feature glasses as plot devices or sources of special abilities
How has the representation of glasses-wearing characters in anime changed over the decades? The evolution reflects broader shifts in anime storytelling and character design. Early anime often relied on stereotypes, with glasses signifying intelligence but also physical weakness or social awkwardness. As the medium matured, creators began to explore more nuanced and diverse characters who happen to wear glasses, rather than defining them solely by this trait.
In recent years, we’ve seen a trend towards using glasses as a fashionable accessory or even a source of power. Series like “Meganebu!” celebrate glasses culture, while others like “Tokyo ESP” feature characters whose abilities are tied to their eyewear. This evolution demonstrates anime’s ability to take a simple visual element and imbue it with deeper meaning and narrative significance.
The Psychology of Glasses in Character Perception
Why do glasses have such a strong impact on how we perceive anime characters? The psychology behind this phenomenon is fascinating:
- Halo effect: Glasses can create a positive bias, leading viewers to assume intelligence and trustworthiness
- Contrast: Eyewear can create visual interest and make characters more memorable
- Vulnerability: Glasses can make characters seem more relatable and human
- Focus: Drawing attention to a character’s eyes can enhance emotional expression
Do glasses-wearing anime characters tend to be more popular among fans? While individual preferences vary, there is a notable fanbase for bespectacled characters. This popularity may stem from the added depth glasses can bring to a character’s design and personality. The contrast between a character’s appearance and their true nature, often highlighted by their eyewear, can make them more intriguing and memorable to audiences.
Additionally, glasses can serve as a point of relatability for viewers who wear them in real life. Seeing characters who share this trait can create a sense of connection and representation, especially when those characters are portrayed as capable, attractive, or heroic.
Glasses in Anime vs. Western Animation
How does the use of glasses in anime character design differ from Western animation? While both use eyewear as a visual shorthand, there are some notable differences:
- Variety: Anime tends to feature a wider range of glasses styles and designs
- Symbolism: In anime, glasses often carry deeper meaning or relate to character arcs
- Fan service: Anime more frequently uses glasses as an element of attractiveness or “moe” appeal
- Power source: Some anime feature glasses as magical items or technology, less common in Western animation
These differences reflect broader cultural attitudes towards eyewear and the unique storytelling conventions of anime. In Japanese media, glasses are often seen as fashionable accessories rather than purely functional items, which is reflected in their more prominent and varied use in character design.
Creating Memorable Glasses-Wearing Characters
What makes a glasses-wearing anime character truly stand out? While the presence of eyewear can be a striking visual element, truly memorable characters go beyond this surface-level trait. Some key factors include:
- Unique design: Distinctive glasses that reflect the character’s personality or role
- Subversion of expectations: Characters who challenge stereotypes associated with glasses-wearers
- Integration with abilities: Glasses that play a role in the character’s powers or skills
- Character growth: Eyewear that evolves or changes significance as the character develops
- Symbolic meaning: Glasses that represent a core aspect of the character’s identity or struggles
How can writers and artists create glasses-wearing characters that avoid clichés? The key lies in treating glasses as one aspect of a well-rounded character rather than their defining trait. By giving these characters depth, unique motivations, and arcs that go beyond their eyewear, creators can craft memorable and beloved bespectacled heroes and heroines.
The Future of Glasses in Anime
As anime continues to evolve, how might the portrayal of glasses-wearing characters change? Some potential trends to watch for include:
- Increased diversity in character types and roles for glasses-wearers
- More advanced or futuristic eyewear designs in sci-fi and fantasy series
- Exploration of glasses as adaptive technology or accessibility tools
- Deconstruction of glasses-related tropes and stereotypes
- Integration of augmented reality or smart glasses concepts
Will we see new archetypes emerge for glasses-wearing characters in anime? As societal attitudes towards eyewear continue to shift and technology advances, it’s likely that new character types will develop. We may see more characters who view their glasses as a fashion statement or source of confidence, rather than a sign of weakness or nerdiness. Additionally, the increasing prevalence of smart devices could lead to more characters with high-tech glasses that serve plot-relevant functions.
Ultimately, the future of glasses in anime will likely reflect broader trends in fashion, technology, and cultural attitudes. As long as eyewear remains a common part of daily life, it will continue to be a valuable tool for character designers and storytellers in the world of anime.
Top 30 Best Girl Anime Characters With Glasses – FandomSpot
People really just walk around and take seeing everything in 4k for granted.
Glasses can truly be a hassle: you lose them and turn into Velma, they constantly get foggy, and people always want to try them on.
But there are upsides as well. You look like a stylish smarty-pants for one. And chicks with glasses can really play it up.
If you’re looking for some ideas of a best girl in anime that wear glasses, well I’ve got you covered. Let’s see how beautiful they are in their blurry existence.
30. Sheele
Anime: Akame ga Kill
Sheele is a very dangerous customer, equipped with giant scissors she can cut down just about anything.
And she has definitely put that statement to the test. Although it was mostly just people.
However despite her ruthless assassin mindset, she can be quite gentle. And was to an extent the heart of the group, always there to be a shoulder to cry on.
It’s also very easy to forget her body count once you see her stumbling around just because she lost her glasses for the millionth time that day.
29. Manami Okuda
Anime: Assassination Classroom
We have another assassin on our hands, fancy that.
They fill a similar niche but in drastically different ways. Okuda is very shy and struggles with the usual up-front way of dealing with Koro-sensei, guns and snipers just aren’t her thing.
However, she’s extremely intelligent and proficient in chemistry. So she can whip out the best poison this world has seen since… never mind.
The mad chemist dandere is definitely not something you see every day. But she makes it work.
28. Sumireko Sanshokuin
Anime: ORESUKI Are you the only one who loves me? (Ore wo Suki Nano wa Omae Dake ka yo)
Sumireko definitely caught me off guard, I can tell you that much.
In short, the show centers around Jouro, a “nice guy™” who’s really trying to build a harem. Even though he isn’t that good of a person.
Then Sumireko comes along and is genuinely interested in Jouro, and not the fake persona he lets everyone else believe in. But rather his true neckbeard self.
And then she just kind of screws around with everyone as they all play into her hands.
Never has a library girl been more intimidating, and yet somehow alluring.
27. Hange Zoë
Anime: Attack on Titan
Fun fact: in the manga it was never distinguished whether Hange was a female or not.
The anime is a different monster though. Is Hange wifey material?
Hell no, she’s already married to her work. And you should not and cannot be a homewrecker. I mean, just look at how excited she gets whenever she thinks she’s on the verge of making a great discovery.
Also worth mentioning the lengths she’s prepared to go to. In this regard, she’s very similar to Erwin. With an undying curiosity that tramples any ethics or norms.
26. Moeka Kiryuu
Anime: Steins;Gate
I have gone on record and stated that I disliked this character, at least in the first half. However she did grow on me as the series went on.
She also has an unbelievable narrative pressure, because this is a character that seemingly has nothing to lose and will therefore stop at nothing to fulfill her goals.
Even when that something makes me want to throw a shoe at the screen.
And because of the setup of the show, we have seen her on both sides of the coin: as the savior and as the damnation.
Considering she fit both roles pretty well, you can’t argue that she’s at least top-notch in terms of dynamic writing.
25. Yuki Nagato
Anime: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Yuki is one of those fakers that don’t really need glasses. But she’s quite cute when she wears, them so I’m going to let it slide.
When first introduced, she came off as the hardcore kuudere that would balance out the beehive for a brain known as Haruhi.
However once the layers started being pulled back and we saw the extraordinary nature of the Brigade, we learn that Yuki is basically a human interface there to simply collect data.
How the writers took that prompt and kept her interesting without going down the Pinocchio route, I truly have no idea. But good on them.
24. Saya Takagi
Anime: Highschool of the Dead
Can’t say that I’m surprised that the one with glasses is the brains of the group.
Okay, Kohta also has glasses. But he definitely took a different direction.
Although it’s easy to forget because of her tough exterior, Saya is genuinely a genius. And she’s as essential to the group as Machinegun Kohta and the Sadistic samurai.
After all, she was the first to figure out how the “not zombies” tracked their location, a titbit that was extremely useful later on.
You also have to appreciate her “protect the smile” attitude towards Alice, which is just adorable.
23. Mirai Kuriyama
Anime: Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)
She is such a dandere I can’t handle the cuteness.
You see, in her world there is a profession called the Spirit World Warriors. It’s their job to hunt Youmu. And that’s usually how they make a living.
But being the ball of fluff that she is, Kuriyama really doesn’t want to even encounter Youmu, let alone fight them.
What does that mean?
The greatest antagonist of all, financial instability, wooo. I also love the fact she hangs her heart on her sleeve. She couldn’t lie if her life depended on it. Embrace the awkwardness, we love you for it.
22. Shino Asada (Sinon)
Anime: Sword Art Online II
I mean, you have to love your gamer girls.
True, Shino doesn’t wear glasses in the virtual world. However, she does in real life. So it counts!
The best way to describe her is “cool as a cucumber”, which is to be expected from an A-class sniper.
She’s always level-headed and decisive. Okay almost always, Kirito managed to piss her off; his overpowered-ness has now transcended even to the human psyche.
Her past is definitely not all sunshine and rainbows. But she does tough through it, so let’s give respect where it’s due.
21. Homura Akemi
Anime: Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
If Naofumi Iwatani had a child with the most dandere of all danderes, Homura would be their offspring.
This is because she’s introduced as a support archetype, with fewer points into offense and more so towards shielding.
But just like her hypothetical papa, she soon learns how to use her powers for offense as well. And could stand her own ground before long.
She’s also such a shy little munchkin, I really want to pinch her cheek or something.
20. Kasumi Nomura
Anime: Asobi Asobase
Compared to Hanako, Nomura seems pretty toned down. But then again, everyone does.
Yet when she does have her outbursts it’s an absolute riot to watch.
This is because she’s usually very calm and collected, but can get very sadistic and cruel if she’s worked up.
I don’t know about you, but she gave the hardest spanking since the 80s when Hanako acted tough. She also gets very stabby if a man frightens her out of nowhere… bonus points if it’s Maeda.
19. Koyomi Mizuhara
Anime: Azumanga Daioh
I thought my anime vocabulary was somewhat decent until I stumbled upon Koyomi and the word maganekko. And no, it’s not a cat that voted for Trump (it is also spelled meganekko but I had to make that joke).
It’s actually a character whose charm and visual appeal are tightly connected to them wearing glasses. The more you know.
Koyomi definitely fits the bill here, as her maturity contrasts very nicely with her friends. And her occasional bursts of chaotic energy make her just a bit more dynamic.
School grades have probably shortened her life by a few years. But that’s just most people, I think.
18. Yomiko Readman
Anime: Read Or Die
If you haven’t picked it up by now, characters with glasses tend to be very smart.
And what makes you smart? Reading books! And maybe a SkillShare membership, who knows.
Well what are books made of? To cut the quiz short, Yomiko can control paper and uses it in combat.
Like Konan, but less angelic.
It also makes a bit more sense for Yomiko to have this power because the girl really enjoys her reading time. Like she has read hundreds of books and shows no intention of slowing down. No wonder her eyes got a bit messed up.
17. Tamako Arai
Anime: Barakamon
The Tamako plus Miwa combo was honestly a joy to watch. Especially when they interact with Sei.
Since they were older than most of the cast, but still younger than Sei, it left a lot of room for tomfoolery.
What pushed Tamako over the edge and onto this list for me is her obsession with manga.
She’s a closeted fujoshi and gets heated whenever manga is mentioned. Or she thinks that Sei might swing the other way, if you know what I mean.
Her over-the-top reactions always lightened up the mood. And her intensity while speaking is infectious, honestly.
16. Nina Einstein
Anime: Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
I want to put her in this spot just to metaphorically piss her off.
If you’re not in the know, in the show Nina is a bit of a racist towards the conquered people. She also has one hell of a Jackal and Hyde situation going on, as she’s both this nice innocent girl that keeps to her books and doesn’t draw attention to herself, but also Oppenheimer in disguise.
I mean, I couldn’t only put the “happily ever after, all sunshine and rainbow” characters on this list. It needed a little grit. Nina fits that role perfectly.
15. Shizuku
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)
I just love the Phantom troupe, some of the best antagonists alongside the Akatsuki.
Shizuku is just such a hilarious yet fitting leg of this spider. I say hilarious because she has a damn possessed vacuum as a weapon… like how do you come up with that?
It’s like a samurai, giant muscle dude, copycat ninja, and then a vacuum cleaner from hell.
I will say that she makes for a good atmosphere when the troupe is on the scene. And she definitely took off some of the weight Hisoka was carrying in the realm of eye candy.
14. Sheska
Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist
Sheska should be a motivational speaker or something.
I mean, her central premise is her love for books. She reads whenever, wherever, we’re meant to be together…
And this really hits her performance as far as jobs go. Because serving a customer is a priority way bellow reading a new book.
Yet all this excessive reading has obviously made her brain go super Saiyan. And she can remember anything she has ever read, making her like a living Internet entity, minus all the weird fetish sites.
So make your flaws your strengths! Or something like that.
13. Maiko Oogure
Anime: Kill la Kill
I have to get a bit spoilery to truly emphasize why I like this character.
The thing is, I really enjoy self-aware cowards in anime when they’re done right. Not only is it good for a quick laugh, but it also feels a bit more realistic.
And boy, Maiko is so cowardly that she’s prepared to play every dirty trick in the book to secure her victory.
Fake injuries in order to get a sympathy card, check.
Be a total Brutus but in a funny way, check.
Target the squishies, check.
Maybe it’s just me, but I really enjoyed her attempts at beating Ryuko.
12. Yumi Azusa
Anime: Soul Eater
In a very similar vein to Sheska, Yumi has a photogenic memory and has a vast knowledge of everything.
However, she’s far more serious than Sheska. She isn’t even a stick in the mud… she’s like a log in the swamp.
I mean, she literally never smiles. And looks down on all of her colleagues. Now you might be thinking, why would I put her on this list if she’s like this?
Well, because it’s a really good change of pace for the show. Her deadpan soul makes me chuckle, and because “The King of Tattletales” is such a ridiculous title that I can’t help myself.
11. Tashigi
Anime: One Piece
I’ve mentioned quite a few times how I like characters that present a change of pace. And Tashigi definitely goes against most of what we’ve said here.
The only common ground she has with most of the characters on this list is a type of curiosity/obsession. Only in her case it’s strictly directed towards katanas.
Outside of that, she’s a rowdy sword master who charges into battle headfirst. She doesn’t give up even if she’s beaten to a pulp. And she hates being looked down on more than anything.
So not your typical glasses-wearing bookworm, is she?
10. Saya Kisaragi
Anime: Blood-C
Saya would definitely get along well with Tashigi. When she’s being her honest self, that is.
Because like your average anime Hannah Montana, Saya lives a double life of a normal high school girl and a badass fighter.
She also wields a katana, just saying. Tashigi would totally be into that.
When she’s not killing blood-sucking demons, however, she definitely seems more in line with the “female with glasses” archetype: weak, kind, and smart.
9. Miyuki Takara
Anime: Lucky☆Star
And we’re back into the realm of book-loving and kindness.
Miyuki is an adorable little geek with a love for reading. And everything else.
She’s legitimately so kind and soft-spoken that you really can’t help but fall in love with her.
She tends to get lost in her own head, dozing off whenever nothing of importance is happening. But that just makes her cuter.
In all honestly, she could probably murder a baby seal and I would still find her cute… the art style is just too crisp, and the eyes too big to resist.
8. Tsubasa Hanekawa
Anime: Bakemonogatari
You have to love your “class rep” characters. Especially when they’re as wholesome as Hanekawa.
I’m using the term wholesome extremely ironically there.
I mean, as a person she definitely fits the bill and usually offers great support to Araragi and my cold heart. However, the more we get to know her, the more we see that not everything is daijoubu.
Not going to give too much away. But let’s just say she gets a very fluffy form at one point, and somehow becomes cuter and stronger all at the same time.
7. Kobayashi
Anime: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Kobayashi is the perfect protagonist for this show because I cannot honestly picture anyone else accidentally getting a maid who’s also a dragon, just because she got drunk that one time.
Drunk Kobayashi should just have her own show. But that’s a discussion for another time.
When sober, she is very level-headed. Even though there are dragons running around her house.
And she’s kind-hearted, even though said dragons are usually awful at their jobs.
As I said in the beginning, not anyone could have been Kobayashi. It truly takes a certain personality to work.
6. Anri Sonohara
Anime: Durarara!!
For a while I was really worried that Anri would end up as a half-baked character. But the second half of the show truly delivered and gave her some badass tools to work with.
I don’t want to go into exactly what happens. But let’s just say that she becomes a) deadly, and b) relevant in the overarching plot.
Plus she remains the same soft-spoken kind character we grew to love early on.
A+ as far as I am concerned.
5. Yoko Littner
Anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Okay, Yoko admittedly doesn’t wear glasses most of the time. Unless you count those goggles she has.
However (spoilers ahead) when she becomes (spoiler alert) a teacher, she’s seen wearing a pair. And they fit her just perfectly.
I don’t know why, but teacher Yoko is one of my all-time favorite characters. Her soft tone towards the children is nice, but her badass side is ready at a moment’s notice.
And switching from the bikini and sniper and to the plain shirt and glasses just fit this side of her so well.
4. Nodoka Manabe
Anime: K-On!
I’m going to be honest here: being from K-On automatically increases your chances of being part of any list I ever make.
I also have such a soft spot for Nodoka as she’s like the mom of the entire school.
Her down to earth personality coupled with an over the rainbow ambition is just sort of inspiring to watch.
And on an even more personal note, her disposition to constantly get lost is something I relate to so heavily, that I pray to her every time I have to go to the store.
3. Mey-Rin
Anime: Black Butler
Like Nina Mey-Rin also has two sides to her, only one of them doesn’t ignore the Geneva convention NINA.
For a majority of the show, Mey-Rin is just this clumsy little maid girl that doesn’t seem capable of hurting a fly.
Then we learn that in a twist of irony, her glasses actually make it harder for her to see. And more importantly, she’s a trained sniper. Didn’t see that one coming, now did you?
So as you can imagine, the second the glasses dropped, utter chaos was unleashed. And Sebastian is no longer the only badass in the house.
2. Nemuri Kayama
Anime: Boku no Hero Academia
I like it when a show is upfront about what a character represents. And they really didn’t beat around the bush with misses Midnight.
Okay, maybe some beating was involved. But a different kind.
With her dominatrix-looking hero costume, seduction powers, an upfront personality, and a great body, she certainly fits the femme fatale role.
She even uses a whip in combat. Like they really went all out with her.
And that’s what I love about her: straight to the point and self-aware. Plus she’s far from fodder when it comes to combat.
1. Ursula Callistis
Anime: Little Witch Academia
Ursula is like a quieter, more realistic All Might, in my opinion.
This is because all she wants is to make people smile, and sees power only as a means to do that.
And just like All Might, a lot of eyes turn to her in times of need.
But that’s where realism sets in: not everyone is always going to smile. It’s just how life is.
This eventually cracks down on Ursula and she stepped down from the idol scene and became a teacher.
All Might’s fall from grace might have been more epic, but Ursula’s was way more human. Which is a feeling writers should always aim for.

Girl Changes Her Life Just by Taking Off Her Glasses
« Better, much better »
The same applies to the film The Princess Diaries with Anne Hathaway in the lead role. She plays the character of Mia, a young woman who discovers that she is a princess. But there’s a catch… her grandmother (the Queen) does not think her granddaughter can do justice to the role without a makeover to help her look the part. The stylist brought in to transform her snaps Mia’s glasses in two and asks if she has contacts she can wear instead. Mia explains that she doesn’t like wearing them, but now that her glasses are broken, the stylist warns her she had better start… The results of the makeover are finally revealed to her grandmother. “Better, much better” she says. Not quite the example of self-acceptance you might expect to be presented to the impressionable young people this film is aimed at, who may be struggling with the idea of wearing glasses in the mistaken belief that glasses make them look ugly! The story shares certain similarities with Ugly Betty, played by America Ferrera. Betty also has glasses, braces, her own look… in spite of which she tries to make her way in the world of fashion. The series was inspired by the Colombian soap opera Yo Soy Betty, La Fea, which aired between 1999 and 2001. Of course, the premise was the same, the main character an apparently unattractive yet intelligent young woman, who has to put up with insults from her colleagues and being constantly belittled. Another adaptation of this soap opera, German this time, Verliebt in Berlin, can be summed up as follows: young woman, not blessed in the looks department, tries to succeed in the cutthroat world of fashion. There are plenty more examples, another one being Katy Perry in her music video for Last Friday Night, in which she plays a teenager, complete with large glasses, mouth guard and a crush on the best-looking guy at school. Finally, who could forget Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire? Her character suffers from short-sightedness and is “forced” to wear glasses, which she hates wearing in front of men because she says, “Men aren’t attentive to girls who wear glasses”.
Goggles, face shields – should you wear them?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) doesn’t recommend the general public use face shields or goggles as a substitute for masks as a precaution against the virus that causes COVID-19.
The CDC, however, does officially recommend that eye protection, in addition to masks or respirators, be worn by health care workers in “areas with moderate to substantial community transmission.”
If you do choose to wear a face shield or goggles, the CDC recommends you ensure they fit properly and you clean and disinfect them according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Following the advice of the CDC is critical, according to Lori Grooms, director of Infection Prevention and Control for OSF HealthCare.
“If you choose to wear eye protection it is important that it fits correctly, requiring little adjustment once it is put on,” Lori said. “It should also provide coverage to all sides – top, bottom and side to side.”
If you’re going to wear a face shield, the CDC further recommends choosing a hooded face shield or one that wraps around the sides of your face and extends below your chin.
Keep it clean
Face shields and googles also should be kept clean, just like your mask, Lori said.
“Since these are made of different materials, you may want to clean a small corner of the shield or goggle to ensure the cleaner you are using does not damage the surface,” she said. “And remember, most of these products are disposable and should be discarded when they are scratched, etched or clouded. Eye protection should be stored in a safe place between uses to protect it from scratches.
“Placing goggles, glasses or face shields above your head when you are not wearing them is not a good idea,” Lori said. “If you will continually be removing it to see or read items, it might not be useful.”
Also, wash your hands after removing a face shield or googles and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth when removing them, according to the CDC.
Contracting the virus
“While there is not much literature that addresses the ability to contract COVID-19 through the eyes, we know that the major source of infection is the virus coming in contact with your nose and mouth,” Lori said.
The eyes contain a very similar cell structure of the cells lining the nose and mouth – the mucous membranes.
“Because the eyes can drain into the back of your nose and throat it is possible to spread the virus from the eyes into your nose and mouth,” Lori said. “Another way it can be transmitted through the eyes is when an infected person rubs their eye and then spreads the virus to other surfaces or objects from contaminated hands.”
Eyeglasses and sunglasses
Prescription eyewear, reading glasses and sunglasses are not protective due to the openings around the side of the frames, Lori said.
“The protection they may provide is that they may distract the wearer from rubbing or touching their eyes,” she said. “If you are not used to wearing glasses though, they could cause the wearer to more frequently touch or adjust them, which can have the unintended consequence of having contact with their face. It could be a Catch-22.”
Together is better
“It’s important to remember that masks and eye protection have different functions. Pairing them together can increase your level of protection if used correctly,” Lori said.
“Masks can trap droplets and particles that the wearer expels and on some levels protects the wearer from inhaling droplets and aerosols that are in the air,” she said. “Eye protection in the form of a face shield is intended to provide a barrier to the wearer from the environment.”
When it comes down to it, the best precautions to take against contracting the virus are the three Ws for everyone’s safety – wear a mask, watch your distance and wash your hands.
A Woman Wears Goggles to Keep Her Makeup Dry in the Shower
The INSIDER Summary:
- Tumblr user LaurLaurrDraws wore swimming goggles to protect her eye makeup while she washed her hair in the shower.
- Surprised at how well it worked, she took to social media and shared her hack with others.
- So far, her post has seen over 113,000 likes and reblogs.
- Her hack may not be the best idea, though; bacteria can grow in warm environments, and wearing makeup under goggles could cause breakouts or eye irritation.
If you’ve already done your eye makeup but your hair really needs a wash, one woman came up with the perfect solution for keeping your makeup in tact in the shower.
Rather than run the risk of ruining her perfect brows and eyeliner, Lauren, aka LaurLaurrDraws, wore a pair of goggles while she washed her hair.
Impressed with the results, the 22-year-old shared the simple makeup hack in a Tumblr post that has since gone viral with over 113,000 likes and reblogs.
In the caption, she wrote: “when u have to wash your hair but ur makeup is fly af.”
In the photo on the left, Lauren is seen wearing a pair of swim goggles with her makeup fully protected. The picture on the right offers proof that the trick worked; her makeup appears to be smudge-free. However, she was left with red suction cup marks that eventually faded.
In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Lauren said a lot of critics have asked why she didn’t use dry shampoo instead.
Lauren received both praise and criticism for her makeup trick.

Her response? “Guess what, not a good idea when you have a perm.”
As Lauren proved in her Tumblr post, technically you can wear goggles to save your makeup when taking a shower.
But it might not be the best idea. Bacteria is known to grow in warm environments, and breaking out or experiencing eye discomfort — which could both happen by sweating in goggles — just isn’t worth the hassle.
6 Reasons Why Women With Glasses Appear More Attractive|Parhlo.com
Remember how they move a girl to contact lenses from glasses in movies whenever they want to make her look prettier or sexier, and when the guy finally falls in love he tells her that he liked her better with the glasses on. It’s as simple as that. You don’t have to take them off in the first place.
Here are 6 reasons why men are attracted to women who wear glasses:
Studious, Brainy Look
Saying that girls with glasses are brainier makes just as much sense as saying that guys with mustaches are creepier. But somehow, a woman wearing a pair of spectacles does appear to be the studious type. One who has much more important things going through her mind than what she’s going to wear on her next date and one with whom you can talk about a lot of stuff.
Nice, Reserved Type
You see a girl, and you think of making a pass. Then you notice her glasses and you think again about what you were about to do. Yeah, that’s true. Girls with glasses have that nice, reserved look that says “You can spend the rest of your life trying, but I’m not gonna fall for you, you idiot.” And that, untouchable, unreachable air about them, makes them so much more attractive.
Fully Embrace Who They Really Are
One thing you can say for sure about a girl with glasses is that she couldn’t care less about what people think about how she looks. Moreover, if she really is a nerd, she is one who fully embraces her nerdy side. For those who are interested, there is a bold statement here: “Accept me the way I am or try somewhere else!”
Girls With Glasses Can Look Equally Hot
If you think that glasses would stop a girl from looking hot, well, think again. Glasses don’t diminish a women’s beauty, rather in many instances, the opposite is true. If you still don’t buy that, just ask yourself, do you think guys with glasses are any less hot than the ones without them? I know what your answer is.
It Can Actually Make a Woman Stand out From The Crowd
Girls with glasses get noticed more than the ones who don’t. Even guys who don’t really care if your purse matches your heels on a date, can’t help but notice your eyes because it’s a big obvious accessory right there on your face.
Glasses Are No Longer Considered To Be a Bad Thing
Long gone are the days when glasses were viewed as something to be embarrassed of. Besides the fact that every third person has an eye sight issue these days, celebrities have started showing up on red carpets and TV shows with glasses on and it has become more of a fashion symbol than a remedy to fix bad eyes.
Have you have fallen for a girl with glasses? OR if you are a girl who wear glasses do you feel the need to switch to contacts when going out?

See how girls choose glasses in Slutsk optics
People with poor eyesight are often embarrassed to wear glasses, because they think that they do not suit them.Girls are especially complex: it is worth putting on glasses of an inappropriate shape, and a young girl turns into a woman over forty. Age magic, not otherwise. Another problem is that glasses are uncomfortable. They press on the bridge of the nose, press behind the ear, or fall off. How to choose the right glasses so as not to hesitate to go out in them, we will tell you in this material.
Publication experts – sales consultants optics of sweet prices “Halva” : Olga Avvakumova and Victoria Koipash Before buying glasses, you should ask yourself: why do I need them?
- If you need glasses for “status” or short-term use, you can safely buy ready-made ones.
- If for correction of vision and permanent wear, it is better to order glasses taking into account the peculiarities of vision. Also in this case, you can choose the material and additional “chips” of the lenses. For example, lenses with an anti-fog coating.
In the video, Yulia is testing the lenses for fogging
Now let’s figure out how to choose glasses so that they do not spoil the appearance. Of course, you can go to the optician and try on all the glasses in a row, but in this case, the process can be delayed. Therefore, when choosing, it is worth considering the following points:
- should be comfortable wearing glasses,
- the shape of the glasses must match the shape of your face,
- the size of glasses corresponds to the size of the head,
- frames to match hair or eye color,
- glasses design fits into your everyday style.
We went to the sweet price optics “Halva” to show through our own experience how [not] to choose glasses.
Yulia has an oblong face. Large wide frames of round and oval shape are suitable for this type. The task of the glasses is to visually reduce the face and smooth the corners. Therefore, narrow or narrowed at the ends glasses, small frames will not suit her. The color of the frame is black, it is universal.
I have an oval face and long bangs.
