What makes the Warrior Kryptolyte Defense shaft ideal for lacrosse goalies. How does its weight and length impact performance. Why is shaft selection crucial for goalies. What are the pros and cons of longer vs shorter shafts.
Key Features of the Warrior Kryptolyte Defense Shaft
The Warrior Kryptolyte Defense lacrosse shaft is a popular choice among goalies and defenders. Here are some of its standout features:
- Made of durable Kryptolyte grade alloy
- Rounded edge shape for comfortable grip
- Available in attack (30″) and goalie (40″) lengths
- Lightweight design – 6.8 oz for attack, 7.9 oz for goalie length
- Smooth glossy finish
- Simple “Circle W” graphics
The Kryptolyte alloy provides an excellent balance of strength and weight, making this shaft both durable and easy to maneuver. Its rounded edges fit naturally in a player’s hands, enhancing comfort and control.
Importance of Shaft Selection for Lacrosse Goalies
Choosing the right shaft is crucial for lacrosse goalies. Why? The shaft affects several key aspects of a goalie’s performance:
- Ball control outside the net
- Passing accuracy and distance
- Save-making ability
- Overall stick maneuverability
A well-chosen shaft can enhance a goalie’s strengths and mitigate weaknesses. It’s an often overlooked but essential component of a goalie’s equipment setup.
Goalie vs. Attack Length: Which is Better?
Lacrosse goalies typically use shafts between 30-40 inches long. But is longer always better? Let’s explore the pros and cons:
Advantages of Longer Shafts:
- More torque for longer outlet passes
- Potential for additional shaft saves
- Extended reach for intercepting passes
Disadvantages of Longer Shafts:
- Heavier weight can slow hand speed
- May get caught in the net more easily
- Can be awkward for ball handling outside the crease
Ultimately, the choice between a longer goalie shaft and a shorter attack-length shaft comes down to personal preference and playing style. Some goalies prefer the extra reach and torque of a longer shaft, while others prioritize quicker hands and easier maneuverability with a shorter option.
Weight Considerations for Goalie Shafts
Weight is a critical factor when selecting a goalie shaft. How does shaft weight impact performance?
Lighter shafts offer quicker hand speed, which can be crucial for making split-second saves. They also reduce fatigue during long practices or games. The Warrior Kryptolyte goalie shaft weighs in at a respectable 7.9 oz, striking a balance between durability and maneuverability.
Heavier shafts, while potentially more durable, can slow down a goalie’s reactions. However, some goalies prefer a bit more weight for stability, especially when making outlet passes.
Shaft Material: Kryptolyte Alloy Explained
The Warrior Kryptolyte shaft is made from a proprietary alloy. But what exactly is Kryptolyte, and why does it matter?
Kryptolyte is Warrior’s high-performance aluminum alloy. It offers several benefits:
- Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
- Good durability against checks and ground balls
- Responsive feel for better ball control
- Ability to withstand extreme temperatures
This alloy allows the shaft to remain lightweight without sacrificing durability – a crucial consideration for goalies who need their equipment to withstand the rigors of shot-stopping and clearing.
Impact of Shaft Design on Goalie Performance
The design of a lacrosse shaft can significantly influence a goalie’s performance. How does the Warrior Kryptolyte’s design stack up?
The rounded edge shape of the Kryptolyte shaft is specifically designed to fit comfortably in a player’s hands. For goalies, this ergonomic design translates to:
- Improved grip stability when making saves
- Enhanced control during outlet passes
- Reduced hand fatigue during long games or practices
- Better feel through goalie gloves
Additionally, the smooth glossy finish allows for quick hand adjustments, which can be crucial when reacting to sudden shot direction changes.
Comparing Warrior Kryptolyte to Other Goalie Shafts
How does the Warrior Kryptolyte stack up against other popular goalie shafts? Let’s compare some key features:
Feature | Warrior Kryptolyte | Competitor A | Competitor B |
---|---|---|---|
Weight (40″ shaft) | 7.9 oz | 8.2 oz | 7.5 oz |
Material | Kryptolyte Alloy | Scandium-Titanium Alloy | Carbon Fiber |
Grip Design | Rounded Edge | Octagonal | Textured |
Finish | Glossy | Matte | Sandblasted |
While each shaft has its strengths, the Warrior Kryptolyte offers a well-rounded package that suits many goalies’ needs. Its weight falls in the middle range, providing a good balance of speed and stability. The rounded edge design and glossy finish are particularly popular among goalies for their comfort and quick-adjustment properties.
Maintenance and Longevity of the Warrior Kryptolyte Shaft
Proper maintenance can significantly extend the life of your lacrosse shaft. How can you keep your Warrior Kryptolyte in top condition?
- Regular cleaning: Wipe down the shaft after each use to remove dirt and sweat
- Avoid extreme temperatures: Store in a cool, dry place
- Check for damage: Regularly inspect for dents or cracks
- Rotate the head: Periodically rotate the head to distribute wear evenly
- Use protective tape: Apply tape to high-wear areas for added durability
With proper care, a Warrior Kryptolyte shaft can last multiple seasons, making it a sound investment for serious players.
Are there any specific care instructions for the glossy finish? While the smooth surface is generally low-maintenance, avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. A soft cloth dampened with water is usually sufficient for cleaning.
Common Issues and Solutions
Even with proper care, lacrosse shafts can develop issues over time. Here are some common problems and their solutions:
- Loose head: Tighten screws or replace if stripped
- Surface scratches: Buff out minor scratches with fine-grit sandpaper
- Bent shaft: Slight bends can often be straightened; severe bends may require replacement
- Grip wear: Re-tape or apply grip enhancer to worn areas
By addressing these issues promptly, you can extend the life of your Warrior Kryptolyte shaft and maintain optimal performance.
Customizing Your Warrior Kryptolyte Shaft
While the Warrior Kryptolyte comes with a clean and simple “Circle W” graphic, many players like to personalize their equipment. How can you customize your shaft without compromising its performance?
- Grip tape: Add tape for enhanced grip and personalized feel
- Paint or decals: Apply custom designs (be cautious not to add excess weight)
- Engravings: Some shops offer custom engraving services
- Butt end: Replace the standard end cap with a custom option
Remember, any customization should comply with league regulations. Excessive modifications could potentially alter the shaft’s weight distribution or durability.
Grip Enhancement Options
For goalies looking to enhance their grip beyond the shaft’s natural rounded edge design, several options are available:
- Traditional athletic tape
- Specialized lacrosse grip tape
- Rubber grip wraps
- Grip-enhancing sprays or liquids
Experiment with different options to find the grip solution that works best for your playing style and weather conditions.
Warrior Kryptolyte Shaft for Different Playing Styles
While the Warrior Kryptolyte is popular among goalies, it’s also used by defenders and even some offensive players. How does this versatile shaft adapt to different playing styles?
For Goalies:
- Lightweight design aids quick reactions
- Rounded edges provide comfortable grip in goalie gloves
- Available in longer length for increased reach and passing power
For Defenders:
- Durable alloy withstands checks and ground balls
- Balanced weight distribution for controlled stick handling
- Smooth finish allows for quick hand adjustments during play
For Offensive Players:
- Lightweight attack-length option enhances maneuverability
- Responsive feel aids in precise shooting and passing
- Comfortable grip reduces fatigue during long possessions
The adaptability of the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft makes it a popular choice across multiple positions, testament to its well-rounded design and performance characteristics.
Price Point and Value Analysis
When considering any piece of lacrosse equipment, it’s important to evaluate its value relative to its price. How does the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft measure up in terms of cost-effectiveness?
The Warrior Kryptolyte typically falls into the mid-range price category for lacrosse shafts. While not the cheapest option on the market, it offers several features that justify its price point:
- Durable construction that can last multiple seasons
- Versatile performance suitable for various positions
- Comfortable design that reduces the need for extensive customization
- Reputable brand known for quality lacrosse equipment
When factoring in its longevity and performance, many players find the Warrior Kryptolyte to offer good value for money. It strikes a balance between affordability and high-end features, making it a solid investment for serious players who don’t want to break the bank.
Cost Comparison
To better understand the Warrior Kryptolyte’s value proposition, let’s compare its typical price range with other popular shafts:
Shaft | Price Range | Notable Features |
---|---|---|
Warrior Kryptolyte | $80-$100 | Kryptolyte alloy, rounded edges, versatile |
Budget Option | $40-$60 | Basic alloy, standard shape, less durable |
Premium Option | $120-$150+ | Advanced materials, specialized features, lightweight |
As this comparison shows, the Warrior Kryptolyte offers a compelling mix of features at a price point that falls between budget and premium options.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability
In today’s eco-conscious world, many players are concerned about the environmental impact of their equipment choices. How does the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft measure up in terms of sustainability?
While specific details about Warrior’s manufacturing processes aren’t publicly available, there are some general points to consider:
- Durability: The shaft’s long-lasting nature reduces the need for frequent replacements, potentially lowering overall resource consumption.
- Material: Aluminum alloys are recyclable, although the specific Kryptolyte alloy may have different recycling requirements.
- Packaging: Some retailers offer minimal packaging options to reduce waste.
For environmentally conscious players, here are some tips to minimize the impact of your lacrosse equipment:
- Proper maintenance to extend equipment life
- Donating used equipment to youth programs
- Researching local recycling options for worn-out shafts
- Supporting brands with clear sustainability initiatives
While lacrosse equipment manufacturing still has room for improvement in terms of sustainability, conscientious use and disposal can help mitigate environmental impact.
Future Developments and Innovations
The world of lacrosse equipment is constantly evolving. What might the future hold for shafts like the Warrior Kryptolyte?
While we can’t predict specific innovations, some trends in lacrosse shaft development include:
- Advanced materials for even better strength-to-weight ratios
- Smart technology integration for performance tracking
- Improved sustainability in manufacturing processes
- Customizable features to suit individual playing styles
As technology advances, we may see shafts that offer even more precise balance of weight, durability, and performance. However, the fundamental principles that make the Warrior Kryptolyte popular – comfort, durability, and versatility – are likely to remain important in future designs.

Warrior Kryptolyte Shaft Review | Lax Goalie Rat
An important piece of getting a good stick setup is attaching the right shaft.
It needs to be light enough to be moved around easily, but also durable enough to withstand seasons of punishment.
Although generally overlooked, the shaft that you attach to your goalie stick matters as it effects your ability to pass, to make saves, and to control the ball outside of the net. Because of this, it is crucial to make a good purchase when buying a shaft.
In this post we’ll take a look at an excellent option: the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft.
Many goalies and 1st time stick buyers wonder what is the ideal length for a goalie shaft.
While shafts can be as short as an attack shaft, or as long as a long pole, goalies typically use a shaft between 30-40” or the length of an attack shaft up to the standard goalie shaft length you’d buy from Amazon.
A longer shaft can be beneficial to a goalie since the additional length gives the goalie more torque in their outlet passes, thus allowing them to throw the ball further.
Also some goalies swear the extra length gives them a save or two more per year – shaft saves.
One downside to this extra length in a shaft is that all the extra metal causes the shaft to be heavier than one that is shorter. It can also get caught in the net or other places around the goalie if your technique suffers.
Although this should not affect goalies with good fundamentals, however it can end up being a problem with younger goalies, or even just with saves where a goalie is in an unsettled situation. Finally, some goalies just don’t see a need for the extra length on their shaft.
Personally, I prefer a shorter shaft as it makes my stick lighter, giving me quicker hands. I also feel as though the longer shaft is just unnecessary since I can generally get my clears as long as I need them to be with a normal attack length shaft.
Also, it makes it easier to handle outside of the cage, and allows me to better protect the ball on clears than I could with a longer shaft.
Let’s dig into the review of the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft.
This shaft comes in both attack and goalie length so it is a good fit regardless of which shaft length you prefer.
It is a member of the Krypto line by Warrior, so it is very similar to other Warrior shafts on the market. The Kryptolyte shaft was released a couple of years ago, and is well known as a great shaft.
A little on the specs – The Kryptolyte goalie shaft weighs 7.9 oz (224 g) which is very light for a good goalie shaft. It has a glossy finish leaving it very smooth. The attack length shaft only weighs a mere 6.8 oz (193 g) leaving it over a whole ounce lighter than the goalie length. It also has a smooth finish. Both shafts are made out of Alloy. They both offer the same shape, as well as the same graphics on the shaft.
The Warrior Kyrptolyte shaft has rounded edges for a good feel in your hands and within your goalie gloves.
I know attack and middies who use the Kryptolyte and their shaft has held up fine with the rough checks they receive day in and day out. Although I have heard stories from others using the Kryptolyte that it didn’t hold up for them.
As goalies we’re not going to be receiving frequent checks to the shaft however I found the Kryptolyte extremely durable. The only damage goalie shaft tend to take is from hitting it against the pipes to check your position.
The Warrior Kryptolyte shaft is more than durable enough to hold up as a goalie shaft. I used the same shaft throughout my entire collegiate career and it does not have any major dents or blemishes, just normal wear and tear after multiple seasons of use, but still in very good condition.
One common complaint is that the paint does fade and chip off of the Kryptolyte with wear but that didn’t bother me too much.
Another complaint is the smooth finish leaves the shaft very slick during rain games, however I found with the right tape job on the stick this didn’t effect me.
For its weight, the durability is extremely good and should hold up for many seasons. The weight is very light allowing for fast hand movement which can help create more saves.
A big issue with extremely light shafts is that often times the head will feel too heavy for the shaft and it will affect movement of the shaft and make it feel lopsided. The Warrior Kyrptolyte has a great weight balance with a lot of the heads on the market, especially the STX Eclipse and the Warrior Nemesis 2.
Compared to other shafts on the market, the Kryptolyte is on the lower end in terms of weight but is definitely not the lightest. The durability is about average with the other shafts of similar weights.
The Kryptolyte is a great shaft aesthetically as well. It comes in many different colors: Black, Chrome, Forest Green, Gunmetal Grey, Navy Blue, Orange, Red, and Royal Blue.
It’s even released in limited edition color ways. It is a very clean looking shaft, and the graphics on it are not too over the top as they sometimes are in other Warrior gear.
The clean shaft looks on just about any head. The full range of colorways allows the shaft to fit with a lot of school colors, but also comes in black and chrome to match any different colorway.
The older generations of this shaft come in many different looks. There are some that are very over the top with the graphics, and there are others that are very clean. It is easy to find a shaft that you like the look of and fits your style. There are also Limited edition colorways like the Rasta colorway.
Since the Kyrptolyte has been on the market for a while its very easy to find a great deal. In fact, a major benefit of this shaft is its affordable price.
You can get the goalie shaft for under $50 and the attack for under $35 which is great value given the quality of this shaft.
Where to Buy
You can pickup a Warrior Kryptolyte from both LacrosseMonkey.com and Amazon however LacrosseMonkey is having a clearance at the time of this writing and thus they’re cheaper there.
Clearance (Black & Orange colors only) – Buy the attack length for $29.98 from LacrosseMonkey.com
Normal (All colors ) – Buy the attack length for $39.98 from LacrosseMonkey.com.
Buy the goalie length for $49.98 from LacrosseMonkey.com
Buy the attack length for $32.00 from Amazon.
Buy the goalie length for $63.31 from Amazon.
These are affiliate links. Meaning I’ll earn a few pennies if you decide to buy through those links. If you’ve gotten value out of the Lax Goalie Rat site, I’d appreciate your support.
I hope you found that Warrior Kryptolyte review helpful.
To sum it up, the Warrior Kryptolyte shaft is great in terms of its weight, durability, and style.
It is a great shaft and I would recommend it for any goalie. It is priced very well and is good for beginners all the way up to the pros.
Until next time! Coach Damon

Gear Review: Team USA Kryptolyte Shaft by Warrior Lacrosse
[rwp-review id=”1″]
Company: Warrior Lacrosse / Product: Team USA Kryptolyte Shaft / Price: $119.99
Lacrosse companies have been making shafts for YEARS now, so I think it’s fair to say that the majority of new shafts that come out are pretty solid. However, it’s important to know if a particular shaft will hold up to your liking, and I’m here to help you make that call! Today I am reviewing the Team USA Kryptolyte Shaft by Warrior Lacrosse we purchased from Lacrosse Panda – a revamped, custom version of the Warrior Kryptolyte.
To test it out, I ran it through a series of strength and weight tests, and I played with it a number of times, including during an intense, high-contact indoor lacrosse session. I ran this thing through the grinder so you won’t have to, and I’m excited to share what I found!
Appearance… +8.0
If you love the United States of America – or if your team’s colors are red, white [gray], and blue – this is the shaft for you . The overall look of the shaft is great. It has a light gray to dark blue transition about 2/3’s of the way up the shaft with red emblems outlined in blue. All the details, little Warrior Lacrosse logos, and transitions look perfect. The only reason I can’t give this a two is because of the color scheme, respectively. Unfortunately the greater majority of teams don’t all have these three colors, so unless players want to stick out or just be patriotic, they may want to consider buying a more neutral-colored shaft.
Unique color scheme!
Grip… +7.5
There’s nothing too special or fancy about the grip, it’s just a traditional concave grip with rounded edges. No rubbery or textured grip on this guy either, which I don’t mind at all. Sometimes that stuff gets a bit too gimmicky. Personally, the grip is one of my favorite things about this shaft because I love the feel of how my fingers fit nicely into the concave edges – a perfect balance between a straight octagon and the powergrip. I’m awarding a 1.5 for the grip, which is a high score in my book. There isn’t anything wrong with it at all, and there is also nothing special to it. Tape it up your way and lax on!
Weight… +10.0
Take a look at the scale below and come back. Light, right? I compared this to a couple other shafts laying around the LAS office and the Kryptolyte was the lightest one, weighing in at just 5.7 oz. Considering most shafts weigh around 6-7 ounces a piece, I’ll be very happy with 5.7 any day.
- Team USA Kryptolyte shaft – 5.7 oz
- Scandium Alloy shaft – 6.5 oz
- Composite shaft – 6.5 oz
- Titanium shaft – 7 oz
Once I slapped it on a head and started playing with it, there was a very noticeable difference in weight from my previous shaft. This thing is very light, even after I put a little tape on it. As I said earlier, there is a noticeable difference with its lighter weight. I felt like I was able to get passes and shots off a little faster and never really felt like I was carrying something around.
Just 5.7 ounces!
Strength/Durability… +7.5
This stick certainly has some flex to it, and it will be more forgiving with checks than a stiffer shaft. I firmly believe that for high school lacrosse player or youth player looking for that extra edge, this shaft is the great match. Made of “high grade C-405 aluminum alloy”, it’s sure to hold up well at the lower levels of play.
However, at more elite levels, the stick’s weight and flex may come at a little expense to the overall durability of the shaft. I was able to flex it pretty well over my knee and after using it for a couple indoor games, I noticed the flex even more in close quarters. Thankfully you’ve always got that 1-year Warrior warranty on your side!
Value… +7.5
Priced at $119.99, I think this shaft has the most value for a player who prefers a lightweight wand. Another important thing to note is that the price of this shaft is also based on its custom, limited edition ‘Team USA’ theme, which is obviously worth it (‘Merica!). As I mentioned in the first paragraph of this review – If you love America or if you’re looking for a special shaft to help you stand out on the field, this one is for you.
Overall Score: 7.8/10
8/10 is a fair score for this twig! If you’re a high school player or you’re purchasing a stick for a player up to the high school level, I’d bump the score up to an 8.5 because, plain and simple, they aren’t going to face as hard of checks and a lightweight shaft would be perfect to use for a developing player.
In regards to position, this is a great shaft for midfielders. It is light enough to let you fly up and down the field without dragging you down, but will hold up well if you get in a scrum from time to time.
Lightweight, patriotic, and a trusted brand – I’d say it’s worth the buy for sure.

Warrior (戦士Senshi) is a diverse, versatile, and popular Type of Monster Card. There are Warriors of every Attribute, primarily EARTH, DARK and LIGHT. The Warrior-Type is the most human-like Type of monster, consisting of many human knights, brawlers, rogues, etc.
The members of the, “Battlin’ Boxer”, “Flower Cardian”, “Codebreaker”, “Comics Hero”, “Dark Scorpion”, “Six Samurai”, “Heroic”, “U.A.”, “Gouki”, “Noble Knight”, “Gaia The Fierce Knight” and “Black Luster Soldier” archetypes are all Warrior-Type monsters, as is most of the “Amazoness”, “HERO” and “Ninja” archetypes.
Warriors also have their own Structure Decks, Structure Deck: Warrior’s Triumph, Structure Deck: Warrior’s Strike/Warriors’ Strike Structure Deck, Samurai Warlords Structure Deck and Structure Deck: HERO’s Strike/HERO Strike Structure Deck.
The main protagonists of the series have used plenty of Warrior-Type monsters in their Decks, initially including at least 1 Warrior-Type archetype each. Yugi Muto uses the Three Musketeers of Face Cards and “Gaia The Fierce Knight” monsters, Jaden Yuki uses “Elemental HERO” and “Masked HERO” monsters, and Yusei Fudo uses “Warrior” Synchro Monsters. Yuma Tsukumo also uses several Warrior-Type monsters, with his signature monster also being Warrior-Type. Yuya Sakaki used the Type the least, his line-up consisting of “Performapal Helpprincess” and “Performapal Dag Daggerman”, while Yusaku Fujiki only uses Cyberse monsters, but has used the Warrior-like “Code Talker” monsters and “Linkslayer”.
Many other characters use Warrior monsters, including Aster Phoenix (all incarnations), Reginald Van Howell III, Kaze, Nistro, Alito, Yuto, Chojiro Tokumatsu, Gloria Tyler, and George Gore.
Playing styles
Warrior-Type monsters have a vast pool of monsters to choose from. Their varied and versatile strategies make them arguably one of the best Types.
Warrior Swarm Deck
A Warrior Swarm Deck is a rather old deck type that was popular back in the days of mass destruction cards like “Raigeki”. With one’s field constantly under threat of being wiped, it was naturally an advantage to be able to return to numbers as quickly as possible, and while you had the chance to grab for as many Life Points as you possibly could. This deck’s main power is rushing the field with 2 “Marauding Captain’s”, making your opponent unable to attack you. This combo was particularly deadly with “United We Stand”, and if monster removal was available (such as the extra summon of “Exiled Force” through “Marauding Captain”‘s effect), then it was a direct hit to the opponent. Alternatively, 2 “Command Knight”‘s can create a lock that will prevent an opponent’s monsters from attacking you directly. Additionally, if you place another Warrior monster such as “Twin-Sword Marauder” onto the field it will gain a substantial ATK boost and become an even greater beat stick. “Mysterious Guard” can also be used to ward off opposing monster(s). Having “The A. Forces” will allow you to make your lower level monsters harder to defeat in battle. If done correctly, it is possible to summon 5 monsters in one turn. By using 2 “Marauding Captain”‘s on the field (locking attacks), a “Command Knight”(s) and “The A. Forces” makes a devastating combo of low level monsters, leaving you able to use the various Effect Monsters at your disposal. “Soul Charge” is a also a great card for bringing back legions of Warrior-Type monsters to regain/maintain field advantage.
Warrior Toolbox Deck
A Warrior Toolbox Deck revolves around the principles of searching out a Warrior “tool” to counter almost any move your opponent may put into play. Sometimes, this deck is referred to as merely “Toolbox”. Today, Warrior Toolbox still thrives and remains a popular and powerful deck type. This deck type revolves almost completely around loading the deck with utility monsters, cards such as “Goblin Attack Force”, “Mystic Swordsman LV2”, “Exiled Force”, “D.D. Warrior Lady”, “D.D. Assailant”, “D.D. Warrior”, “Don Zaloog”, and sometimes even “Elemental Hero Wildheart”, “Bull Blader”, “Mataza the Zapper” and “Twin-Sword Marauder”. The reason for this is that the majority of these cards have a limited use outside of specific situations. Toolbox survives and thrives in today’s metagame because it is able to reliably search the monsters it needs when it needs them to suit any situation. Most of this searching is done via “Reinforcement of the Army”, “Last Will”, “Witch of the Black Forest” and “Sangan”, but occasionally Toolbox will utilize cards such as “Giant Rat”, “Field-Commander Rahz” or “Mystic Tomato” due to the fact that a large majority of its cards may be tutorable by those monsters (including many non-warrior monsters which are seamlessly splashable in the Toolbox deck). Since “Last Will” is currently on the Forbidden list, “Freed the Matchless General” would be an ideal addition to any Advanced Format Warrior deck.
Rat Toolbox
Rat Toolbox refers to using “Giant Rat”, and the elements of a Warrior Toolbox. It has a number of variations (the most popular being “Card Trooper” Return) and is, as of now, the most popular toolbox. The general aim of a “Ratbox”, as it is nicknamed, is to special summon appropriate monsters at appropriate times, through the destruction of “Giant Rat”. To speed this along, rush cards can be implemented in the Deck design, as well as Swap Control. It is probable that the best monster, besides “Giant Rat”, in the Ratbox is either “Exiled Force” or “Card Trooper” and “Bazoo the Soul-Eater”, depending on the design. Cards like “Nimble Momonga”, “Elemental Hero Wildheart”, and “Neo-Spacian Grand Mole” are important to the Deck as well. To ease the tension of drawing situational cards at bad moments, “Card Trader” is another good card for the Rat Deck.
Warrior Equip Deck
This common form of a Warrior Deck revolves around using Equip Cards to quickly overwhelm even your opponents strongest monsters with normally weak monsters. A great combo is to summon “Gilford the Legend” while you have “Gearfried the Swordmaster” on the field. If you do this while you have five equip cards in your Graveyard you can wipe out all of your opponents monsters AND inflict massive damage! Other good cards to add to this deck are “Megamorph”, “Armed Samurai – Ben Kei”, and “Mage Power” (Especially if you have a lot of Equip Cards). But an important thing to remember is to add cards like “Ultimate Offering”, “Double Summon”, and “Mausoleum of the Emperor”, to maintain field advantage, because if you can’t keep a couple of monsters on the field all you will have is a bunch of useless stuff. Some viable Synchro Monsters for this type of Deck are “Power Tool Dragon”, “Seven Swords Warrior”, and “Colossal Fighter”, though one would need to include a Tuner monster such as “Tune Warrior” to utilize any of them. A more effective Tuner monster for this deck would be “Comrade Swordsman of Landstar” and it’s effect would prove useful to any one using a Warrior-based deck. “Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu” is great for grabbing a quick and easy “Mage Power” or “United We Stand”. “Fairy of the Spring” is a great way to recycle an Equip Spell Card.
Gemini / Warrior Equip Effect
Monsters
You may also look to Gemini warriors to aid your Warrior deck by adding a few Gemini monsters abilities running mostly equip cards and there trap card effects to keep your monsters safe and playable. First we look to the equip effect monster “Evocator Chevalier”, now you “must” have all three of these monsters because they have an important effect that will destroy any card on the field if you send one equip card you control to the graveyard.”Phoenix Gearfried” has an ability that can special summon Gemini monsters from your graveyard whenever your opponent activates a spell card and also by sending one equip card to the Graveyard you can negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card that targets a monster and destroy it. “Featherizer” will allow you to discard any Gemini monster in your Deck to the Graveyard and draw a card, this works well with “Phoenix Gearfried” or “Evocator Chevalier” as a last resort. Combo their abilties with “Sword Hunter’s” ability so you will not always have to rely on your own Equip cards. “The Creator” is a great way to get rid of your “Phoenix Gearfried” that may be sitting in your hand so you can special summon him at a later time and possibly pull out whatever Gemini monster that may be in your graveyard. If you run one “Gearfried the Swordmaster” he can destroy one monster with every Equip Card that he is given.”Gilford the Legend” is a great way to recycle your Equip Spell Cards that have been used throughout the duel giving your “Phoenix Gearfried” “Gearfried the Swordmaster” and “Evocator Chevalier” a chance to further use their effects.”Field Commander Rahz” can be used to rig a level four or lower warrior draw that you may need, like a Gemini warrior, “Gearfried the Iron Knight” or “The Creator Incarnate” to get that Special Summon you may need for “The Creator”. “Gemini Scorpion” is warrior monster that can special summon a Gemini monster from your hand. This can set up for an easy xyz summon such as “Number 39: Utopia” which is also a warrior monster.
Spells
“Hidden Armory” is useful to get a specific Equip Spell Card from your Deck. “Supervise” is a card that will give your Gemini monster its effect and if it has been sent from the field to the graveyard you can select one Gemini monster from your graveyard and special summon it into play. “Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade” will combo very well with the effect of “Evocator Chevalier” which will allow you to use his effect multiple time in the duel at the cost of removing two warrior monsters from the game and you can force the effect of the equip card even faster using “Field-Commander Rahz”.
Traps
You can use “Kunai with Chain” to either switch your opponents monsters to defense mode possibly taking advantage of their weak defense or you can equip your weaker monsters possibly surprising your opponent by destroying your opponents monster that has a weaker attack.”Blast with Chain” effect will ether powering up your monster for five hundred points or by destroying it to use its secondary effect destroying any card on the field. “Gemini Booster is also another trap card that can become an equip card. You can also use “Return from the Different Dimension” together with “Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade” to return warriors that were removed from the play to launch an attack after utilizing “Evocator Chevalier”‘s effect of destroying your opponent’s cards on the field.
Synchron Boost
This focus on Synchro summoning “Nitro Warrior” or “Turbo Warrior” on the first turn. To do this, you need to activate “Foolish Burial” to send “Nitro Synchron” or “Turbo Synchron” to the graveyard and activate “Junk Synchron’s” special ability to special summon “Nitro Synchron” or “Turbo Synchron” from the graveyard and sacrifice “Junk Synchron” to special summon “Turret Warrior”, and Synchro Summon “Nitro Warrior” or “Turbo Warrior”.
Another strategy for this deck is to use “Quickdraw Synchron” with cards to manipulate his level (“Level Eater”, “Demotion”, etc.)
Synchro Warrior Deck
Isolde Toolbox
Since the release of “Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights”, the warrior toolbox has received a much needed speed/power boost and with “Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning” finally at 3 as of February 2018. Since Isolde and Black Luster Soldier are so generic within many Warrior based decks such as “Six Samurai” and “HEROs”, plenty of decks splash in Isolde and BLS to give their deck additional power and consistency. Isolde can also send Equip Spells to the Graveyard such as “Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade” and “Cursed Bamboo Sword” to summon “Secret Six Samurai – Fuma” for Six Samurai or “Destiny HERO – Dreamer” for HERO.

Review of cards set Eldritch Moon
Hello everyone!
Today we will look at the most interesting and useful cards from the last set – “ Moon of Nightmares ” (Eldritch Moon). You can read an overview of the issue itself in one of the previous publications at this link. For convenience, we will consider cards sequentially by color, rarity and alphabetically by English names within each of the groups.
White (White)
Of the cards of common rarity ( C ommon ), the following can be distinguished in white:
Desperate Sentry – A 1/2 3 mana creature that turns into a 4/2 warrior as soon as 4 cards of different types are drawn in your graveyard. Recall that card types are: artifact, sorcery, land, instant, creature, enchantment, Planeswalker, tribal … The number of cards of each type in the graveyard does not matter – it is the variety that is important 🙂 In addition, when she dies (after entering the graveyard), the Guardian leaves a colorless Eldrazi creature with good parameters 3/2 to help you. In general – a very successful “common”!
Fiend Binder (Demon Binder) is another interesting creature that, when attacked, allows you to tap (i.e.That is, to withdraw from the battle, not allowing you to use one of the enemy’s creatures to block) – a very useful ability that compensates for the cost of 4 mana with parameters “only” 3/2.
Ironwright’s Cleansing // Blacksmith Cleansing is a 3 mana sorcery that exiles “target artifact or enchantment”. Everything is clear, a useful thing!
Sigardian Priest is a 1/2 2 mana creature with the ability to tap other creatures for 1 mana and turn, which allows you to interfere with attacking or blocking opponent’s creatures, and can also interfere with the use of certain abilities of other creatures.
Uncommon ( Uncommon ) cards can be noted:
Blessed Alliance – Instant for 2 mana with Escalation also for 2, allowing you to get from one to three effects from one card – very variable and useful in a variety of situations!
Faith Unbroken (Unbroken Faith) – aura for 4 mana, but with a double effect: to strengthen one creature + 2 / + 2 and exile another until this aura itself leaves the battlefield. Not bad!
Lone Rider – An inexpensive 1/1 Knight for 2 mana with First Strike and Lifelink. If you manage to use it and / or the effects of other cards to get 3 or more lives in a turn, the Horseman transforms the creature It That Rides as One with an impressive 4/4, First strike, trample and lifelink! A promising card for decks that use creatures with the lifelink and other methods of getting life (which is typical for white, and also partially for black).
Among the rare and mythical ( Rare & Mythic Rare ) cards the most interesting are:
Gisela, the Broken Blade (Gisela, Broken Blade) – a very strong Angel in itself: 4/3, Flying, First strike and Life chain for 4 mana, what else do you need !? Bonus – the ability to connect with Bruna, the Fading Ligh (Bruna, Fading Ligh) into a super-powerful creature Brisela, Voice of Nightmares (Brisela, Voice of Nightmares).Selfless Spirit – 2/1 with Flight for 2 mana (already something) with the ability to sacrifice it to protect and save your other creatures using the Indestructible effect. It can provide more than one victory in serious battles!
Thalia, Heretic Cathar (Thalia, Heretic Cathar) – 3/2 and First strike for 3 mana, plus the ability to force all creatures and all non-basic lands of opponents to enter the battlefield tapped – a very powerful control option that significantly slows down the deployment of enemy forces.By far the best white card in the set!
Blue ( Blue )
In blue, we are offered the following interesting “commons” ( C ommon ):
Ingenious Skaab is a 2/3 3 mana creature with Mastery and the ability to strengthen its attack, weakening defense for 1 mana (+ 1 / -1, as many times as possible).
Take Inventory (Inventory) – magic that allows you to take more and more cards with each new Inventory.Naturally, if you need such an effect in the deck, then you should use all 4 copies of the card in it.
Turn Aside – Re-issue an instant (with a new pattern!) That allows you to cancel a spell targeting your permanent. Almost a classic of the genre for blue!
Among interesting unusual ( Uncommon ) cards we see:
Curious Homunculus – 1/1 for 2 mana, giving colorless mana to cast instants and sorceries, and quite easily transforms into a Voracious Reader – a powerful 3/4 creature with Mastery, which reduces the cost of all by 1 mana Your instants and sorceries! Very cool!
The Nebelgast Herald is not a very strong 2/1, but a sudden (Instant ability) and flying creature with a good control function, extending to all subsequent Spirits that will appear on the table under your control.Unsubstantiate is an interesting instant spell that allows you to return a spell put on the stack (in which case it will not be cast, but will return to the owner’s hand), or a creature on the table to the owner’s hand. Wide application field!
Interesting “myths” did not get blue this time, but from the rare ( Rare ) cards one can note:
Imprisoned in the Moon – A 3-mana aura that strips an enchanted permanent (creature, land or planeswalker) of all its types and abilities, turning it into a colorless earth, giving 1 colorless mana when tapped.Mausoleum Wanderer – A 1/1 Spirit with Flying for 1 mana, which not only gets amplified (+ 1 / + 1) when you bring other Spirits into play, but can also be sacrificed to try to cancel an instant or sorcery if the declarer of the spell does not pay additional mana for each point of Drifter’s attack at that time (i.e. at least – 1). Really useful creature!
Niblis of Frost (Niblis Frost) – another Spirit with Flight, Mastery and good parameters (3/3) for 4 mana, plus tapping the opponent’s creatures for each instant and magic you cast (increasing at the same time!).
In general, a whole series of Spirits was published in blue, some of which are very good on their own, while others can be a good addition to a deck based on these creatures. Try it out!
Black (Black)
In black there are such interesting “commons” ( C ommon ) as:
Borrowed Malevolence is a 1 mana instant with 2 Escalation with two possible effects: empower (+ 1 / + 1) and weaken (-1 / -1) target creatures.Good card in terms of cost to play and effect.
Gavony Unhallowed – A 2/4 4 mana zombie that grows when your other creatures die. Not bad for a deck of Zombies dying to be resurrected later!
Thraben Foulbloods (Thraben Mudbloods) – another Zombie, parameters 3/2 for 3 mana and get Threat and + 1 / + 1 if you have cards of four or more different types in your graveyard.
In general, it is worth noting that 7 Zombies of black color (and 3 more – blue) were published in the set, which, together with the Zombies from the previous set (Shadows over Innistrad), allows you to create or strengthen a previously collected deck based on this type of creatures.
Let’s move on to reviewing the memorable unusual ( Uncommon ) cards:
Graf Harvest is an enchantment for your Zombies, giving them Threat and allowing them to expel unnecessary creatures from your graveyard in order to obtain a black Zombie token 2/2.
Murder – The name of this 3-mana instant is self-explanatory – just kill target creature. Fast, convenient and useful!
Prying Questions is a 3 mana magic that not only makes your opponent lose 3 life, but also puts one of the cards from his hand on top of the library, thereby slowing down the development of his game strategy.
Finally, rare and mythical ( Rare & Mythic Rare ) cards:
Collective Brutality – magic for 2 with Escalation for discarding cards (without spending mana; and after all, you can discard the same Zombies that can still return to the game!) With three possible options to choose from, each of which is good enough. Strong card!
Cryptbreaker (Grave Liberator) – the best Zombie in the set – 1/1 for 1 mana, plus two abilities associated with this type of creature: you can “build” Zombies for 2 mana and discard a card from your hand; and you can tap any 3 Zombies (including the Liberator, for example) to draw a card, losing one life. The second ability is perhaps even more useful.
Liliana, the Last Hope is the first of two Planeswalkers in this set and one of the best cards in the set! 3 loyalty tokens for 3 mana, weakening creatures (-2 / -1) for +1 token and the possibility of getting an emblem that spawns a crowd of Zombies for -7 tokens – very impressive!
Voldaren Pariah – Vampire 3/3 with Flying for 5 mana with the ability to transform for sacrificing three other creatures and with Frenzy for 3 black mana.Transforms into a creature Abolisher of Bloodlines – Eldrazi Vampire 6/5 with flying, forcing upon its appearance to sacrifice three creatures already your opponent. A perfect example of the danger and cunning of vampire horror!
Red ( Red )
In red, there are enough ordinary cards ( C ommon ) worthy of our attention:
Galvanic Bombardment is an instant, only 1 mana spell that deals more damage to the target creature as more of these cards are already in the graveyard. When used in a deck, it is advisable in the amount of four copies.
Otherworldly Outburst is another 1 mana instant that slightly empowers one of the creatures (+ 1 / + 0), but allows him to get 3/2 Eldrazi token in return if he dies this turn. Can be used as a surprise for the opponent when attacking or blocking (waiting for him to declare attackers or assign all blocking creatures).
Thermo-Alchemist – An inexpensive 0/3 Defender for 2 mana who can shoot at opponents per turn and then turn around after each instant or sorcery you play to stay deployed to block or turn around and shoot again!
Vildin-Pack Outcast – 4/4 with 5 mana trample, with abilities: increased attack by defense (+ 1 / -1) for 1 mana and 7 mana Transformation into a Dronepack Kindred ( A fellow from the Flock of Drones) – already 5/7 with trample and pumping attack (+ 1 / + 0) for one mana.
Uncommon ( Uncommon ):
Conduit of Storms (Conduit of Storms) – 2/3 for 3 mana and adding red mana to the pool after each attack, plus Transformation for 5 mana (you can use the one that was received from himself!) In the creature Conduit of Emrakul ( Guide Emrakul) with parameters 5/4 and giving 2 colorless mana to the pool after each of his attacks.
Savage Alliance is a 3-mana instant with Escalation for just one and three options available. There is always a use for this!
Smoldering Werewolf –3/2 for 4 mana, which, upon entering the game, deals damage to enemy creatures, and also transforms for 6 man into a creature Erupting Dreadwolf – 6/4 and deals 2 damage when attacking in creature or player. A very strong Werewolf!
There is also a sufficient number of good rare ( Rare ) cards:
Assembled Alphas (Pack of Leaders) – Wolf 5/5 for 6 man, which deals 3 damage to each creature it encounters in battle, and 3 more damage to the player who controls that creature – the total destructive potential is impressive!
Bedlam Reveler is a 3/4 creature with Mastery, the cost of which can be reduced from the original 6 to 2 (!) Mans by using spell cards in the graveyard, plus it also “recharges” your hand when you enter the game (and if during the drawing it was the only card in the hand, then you have nothing to fold and you just take three cards!).Add to this the absence of negative abilities and we have the best red card in the set!
Collective Defiance – 3 mana sorcery with 1 mana Escalation and three good options. Not bad!
Hanweir Garrison (Hanweir Garrison) – very good even in itself: 2/3 for 3 mana, plus the ability to put two (!) New attacking tokens 1/1 each time when attacking; and can also fuse with the land of Hanweir Battlements into the creature Hanweir, the Writhing Township.
Green ( Green )
The following cards are of interest in green from common ( Common ):
Springsage Ritual (Ritual of the Sage of Spring) – allows you not only to destroy a dangerous artifact or enchantment, but also to get 4 life. Although the casting price (4 mana) is decent for such cards.
Ulvenwald Captive – a creature able to give 1 green mana for 2 mana per turn, which for a solid 7 mana transforms into an Ulvenwald Abomination with 4/6 parameters and the ability to get two colorless mana into a pool per turn …Waxing moon strike all your creatures (not only the Werewolfs!) until the end of the turn.
Of the unusual ( Uncommon ) cards, the following can be distinguished:
Gnarlwood Dryad (Gnarled Dryad) – 1/1 with Deathtouch, cost 1 mana, plus the ability Rampage + 2 / + 2 (as long as you have four or more different types of cards in your graveyard) – a very good creature!
Hamlet Captain (Village Captain) – 2/2 for 2 mana, plus the ability to pump all your other Human creatures by + 1 / + 1 during an attack or when blocking. An excellent warrior in the deck for this type of creature!
Kessig Prowler (Kessig Hunter) – 2/1 for 1 mana – not bad already, huh? Also, it cannot be blocked by more than one creature and can be transformed for 5 mana into a Sinuous Predator with parameters already 4/4 and with the preservation of the first ability! A complete set, as they say.
Among the rare and mythical ( Rare & Mythic Rare ) cards are the most interesting in our opinion:
Eldritch Evolution (Eerie Evolution) – magic for 3 mana that allows you to sacrifice one creature in order to find another more powerful one in the deck in return and immediately put it on the table.A great search engine for almost any deck!
Ishkanah, Grafwidow (Ishkana, Widow from the Burial Ground) – Spider 3/5 for 5 mann with Capture, as well as with the Rampage abilities (the ability to get three additional Spiders with Capture when Ishkana enters the game) and expensive (7 mann, one is black! ) an ability that makes your opponent lose lives for each Spider you control. However, if you play with a black-green deck, then most likely, when you can play Ishakana, then you will already have 4 different types of cards in the graveyard, you will get a whole brood of Spiders under your control and, quite possibly, thanks to this, you will calmly live up to the moment the possibility of activating the last ability. This is probably the best green card in this set!
Spirit of the Hunt – 3/3 and Instant for 3 mana, plus the ability to give all your Wolves and Werewolves + 0 / + 3 until the end of the turn in which the Spirit of the Hunt came into play. Great card for a werewolf themed deck!
Multicolor
The features of the set are such that there are no multicolor cards of common rarity, and from the unusual ( Uncommon ) one can only single out:
Mercurial Geists – A 4-mana 1/3 flying red-blue Spirit, increasing by + 3 / + 0 for each instant and sorcery you cast on the current turn.Ride Down is a re-release of a red and white instant spell that allows you to destroy a blocker for 2 mana and give all creatures he blocked trample (i.e. they can deal all damage to the defending player).
But in the release there are very strong rares and myths ( Rare & Mythic Rare ), and almost everything! But the best ones are:
Bloodhall Priest (Priestess of the Blood Hall) – Vampire 4/4 for 4 mana with Frenzy for 3 mana, as well as with the ability to deal 2 damage to a creature or player upon entering the game and each time you attack, but provided that you do not have at this point the cards are in hand. For a black and red deck on Vampires – a very interesting and dangerous card!
Gisa and Geralf – A 4/4 4 mana Sorcerer (in friendly black and blue colors) who, when he appears in the game, sends the top 4 cards of your library to the graveyard, but now allows you to play Zombies directly from there too! It is clear which decks this is for.
Grim Flayer – 2/2 for 2 mana in popular black-green colors with trample, rampage by + 2 / + 2 (i.e. this is already a 4/4 creature with trample for 2 mana if you 4 or more types of cards in your graveyard!), Plus the ability to look and sort the top cards of your library after the Flayer deals combat damage! Definitely the best multicolor card in the set!
Spell Queller – blue and white Spirit 2/3 with Flash and Flight for only 3 mana and with the ability to exile a target spell at the entrance to the game with a cost of 4 mana or less as long as the Suppressor himself remains in the game …A very tricky card!
Tamiyo, Field Researcher – The second Planeswalker of this set, has very interesting abilities, but requires three different mana colors to play. A promising and perhaps underestimated card so far.
Colorless (Colorless)
Among the usual ( Common ) colorless cards, perhaps only deserve attention:
Cultist’s Staff – equipment for 2 mana with the cost of equipment already 3 mana and the amplification of the creature is + 2 / + 2.It is unlikely that you want to use the Staff in the deck, but what if?
Terrarion (Terrarion) – reissue (with a new picture) of an artifact for 1 mana, which enters the game tapped and then allows you to pay 2, rotate and sacrifice it to get two mana of any color in any combination and draw a card.
Of the uncommon ( Uncommon ) cards worth noting:
Abundant Maw (Insatiable Maw) – 6/4 for 8 man and with Apparition for 7 (including one black), and forcing the opponent to lose 3 life, and you – to get them when you play the Maw.The good thing here is that the focus with lives will happen regardless of whether the Womb eventually enters the game, or if, for example, it is canceled or returned to the hand.
Cryptolith Fragment is an artifact for 3 mana, which is tapped, which gives mana of any color per turn, makes everyone (including you!) Lose life, and when everyone has 10 or less lives it transforms into a creature Aurora of Emrakul (Radiance Emrakul) – 1/4 with Flying and Deathtouch, as well as with an ability that makes all your opponents lose as many as three (!) Lives every time the Radiance decides to launch an attack.Taken together, it is a very interesting card, especially handy for multi-colored decks (it will help to play Tamiyo, for example!).
There are a decent number of powerful Rare and Mythic ( Rare & Mythic Rare ) cards:
Decimator of the Provinces – 7/7, Haste and Trample for 10 man, plus Manifest for 9 man and when you just play Decimator, it immediately gives all your creatures + 2 / + 2 and Trample until end of turn …Expensive, but strong!
Elder Deep-Fiend (Ancient Fiend of the Abyss) – 5/6 and Instant for 8 man, plus Apparition for 7 and the ability to tap up to four (!) Permanents already when casting the Fiend. It should be enough for the last blow!
Emrakul, the Promised End is the protagonist of the entire episode! 13/13 for 13 mann, of which you, most likely, will pay less thanks to the first ability. The second ability allows you to have fun controlling your opponent’s next move, although then he will have a chance to try to recover with an additional “normal” move.Well, in the appendage – Flight, Trample and protection from instant spells. The power and cunning of the Eldrazi in one map!
Lupine Prototype (Wolf Prototype) – 5/5 for 2 mana without the ability to attack or block until at least one of the players has no cards in hand. In theory, if you play “stormy” (that is, you usually have 1 – 0 cards in your hand from a certain turn) or “discard” (trying to deprive your opponent’s cards), this artifact can be useful to you.
Lands (Lands)
There are only three lands in the edition, let’s briefly consider each of them:
Geier Reach Sanitarium – the second ability is of interest, as it allows you to “renew” your hand at any time.Hanweir Battlements is the same land that can connect to the Hanweir Garrison for 5 mana and a turn. Also grants colorless mana and gives Haste to creatures for 1 mana and turn – this is quite useful!
Nephalia Academy is a land with a very peculiar first ability, which allows, instead of discarding a card from your hand through the fault of your opponent, to show it and put it on top of the library. In theory, this is not bad, but it will be needed relatively rarely.
In general, each of the three lands in the set is highly targeted and has its own area of application.
At the end of the review, a few words about which of the cards of this set have perspectives in various formats Magic (outside the Standard):
Currently, in Modern and Legacy formats ( Modern & Legacy ), players are actively testing Bedlam Reveler in the “burn” (1-2 pcs. In a deck). Legacy also tries to play 1-2 copies of Thalia, Heretic Cathar in the “Death and Taxes” and “Maverick” decks. Perhaps its appearance in the decks of the Modern format.
Eldritch Evolution and Grim Flayer also have good chances to take root in the Modern.
Tamiyo, Field Researcher should appeal to fans of the Commander format ( Commander ), as well as a good selection of cards with the types Vampire, Werewolf, Wolf, Spirit, Zombie, Horror and Eldrazi for their corresponding themed decks.
Happy and interesting game!
