What are the essential lacrosse shooting techniques for beginners. How can advanced players improve their shooting skills. Which lacrosse shooting techniques are most effective for scoring goals. How to execute various lacrosse shots with precision and power.
Fundamental Lacrosse Shooting Techniques for Beginners
Lacrosse is a dynamic sport that requires a diverse set of shooting skills to succeed on the field. For beginners, mastering the fundamental techniques is crucial before progressing to more advanced shots. The two primary shooting techniques that every novice lacrosse player should focus on are the overhand shot and the sidearm shot.
Overhand Shot: The Foundation of Accuracy
The overhand shot is the cornerstone of lacrosse shooting and is often the first technique taught to beginners. Why is the overhand shot so important? It provides the highest level of accuracy and control, making it an essential skill for any player looking to improve their scoring potential.
To execute an overhand shot:
- Position your hands at the top of the stick, with your dominant hand near the head.
- Bring the stick back over your shoulder, keeping your elbows high.
- Step towards your target with your lead foot.
- Rotate your hips and shoulders as you bring the stick forward.
- Release the ball at the point where your stick is perpendicular to the ground.
- Follow through by pointing the head of your stick at your target.
Sidearm Shot: Adding Power and Variety
While the sidearm shot is generally less accurate than the overhand technique, it offers increased power and a lower release point, making it harder for goalies to predict. Beginners should practice this shot to add variety to their shooting arsenal.
Key points for executing a sidearm shot:
- Hold the stick horizontally, parallel to the ground.
- Keep your arms extended away from your body.
- Use a sweeping motion, rotating your torso for additional power.
- Release the ball when your stick is level with your shoulder.
- Follow through by continuing the sweeping motion across your body.
Advanced Lacrosse Shooting Techniques to Elevate Your Game
Once players have mastered the basic shooting techniques, they can explore more advanced options to enhance their scoring capabilities. These advanced techniques require practice and precision but can significantly improve a player’s effectiveness on the field.
Behind the Back (BTB) Shot: The Element of Surprise
The behind the back shot is a challenging yet effective technique that can catch defenders and goalies off guard. How does one execute this advanced shot?
To perform a behind the back shot:
- Cradle the ball in your stick while facing away from the goal.
- Bring your stick behind your back, keeping it parallel to the ground.
- Twist your torso and snap your wrists to generate power.
- Release the ball as your stick comes around your opposite hip.
- Follow through by continuing the motion across your body.
Elevator Shot: Defying Expectations
The elevator shot, also known as the riser shot, is an advanced technique that involves shooting from a low position and making the ball rise unexpectedly. This shot can be particularly effective against goalies who are anticipating a low shot.
Steps to execute an elevator shot:
- Start with a low sidearm or underhand shooting position.
- Use a quick, upward snapping motion with your wrists.
- Release the ball with an upward trajectory.
- Follow through by continuing the upward motion of your stick.
Specialized Lacrosse Shooting Techniques for Different Positions
Different positions on the lacrosse field require specialized shooting techniques to maximize scoring opportunities. Understanding these position-specific shots can give players a significant advantage during gameplay.
Midfield Shooting Techniques
Midfielders often find themselves shooting while on the move. The alley dodge shot and the sweep shot are two techniques particularly useful for midfielders.
Alley Dodge Shot:
- Approach the goal from the alley (the area between the sideline and the goal).
- Use a quick dodge to create separation from your defender.
- Shoot quickly, often using an overhand or three-quarters technique.
Sweep Shot:
- Move laterally across the field, parallel to the goal.
- Use your body to shield the ball from defenders.
- Release the shot while continuing your lateral movement.
Attack Shooting Techniques
Attackmen often need to shoot in tight spaces near the goal. Quick stick shots and in-close shooting techniques are essential for success in this position.
Quick Stick Shot:
- Receive a pass near the goal.
- Shoot immediately without cradling.
- Use minimal stick movement to surprise the goalie.
In-Close Shooting:
- Maintain a low center of gravity.
- Use quick, compact shooting motions.
- Aim for the corners of the goal or between the goalie’s legs.
Improving Shot Power and Accuracy in Lacrosse
Developing shot power and accuracy is crucial for any lacrosse player looking to increase their scoring potential. What techniques can players use to enhance these aspects of their shooting?
Techniques for Increasing Shot Power
To improve shot power, players should focus on:
- Strengthening their core and upper body muscles.
- Practicing proper weight transfer during shooting motions.
- Utilizing their entire body in the shooting motion, not just their arms.
- Developing quick wrist snap at the point of release.
Strategies for Enhancing Shot Accuracy
To enhance shot accuracy, players can:
- Practice shooting at specific targets within the goal.
- Focus on consistent follow-through after each shot.
- Work on shooting under pressure with defensive drills.
- Develop muscle memory through repetitive shooting exercises.
Deception and Fakes in Lacrosse Shooting
The ability to deceive goalies and defenders is a valuable skill in lacrosse. How can players incorporate deception into their shooting techniques?
Eye Deception Techniques
Players can use their eyes to mislead goalies by:
- Looking high while shooting low.
- Maintaining eye contact with a teammate before quickly shooting.
- Glancing at one corner of the goal before shooting to another.
Stick Fakes and Hitches
Incorporating stick fakes can greatly improve a player’s shooting effectiveness:
- Use a hitch shot by briefly pausing mid-shooting motion.
- Employ a pump fake to get the goalie to commit early.
- Practice quick stick fakes before releasing the shot.
Adapting Shooting Techniques for Game Situations
Successful lacrosse players must be able to adapt their shooting techniques to various game situations. How can players adjust their shooting based on different scenarios they encounter on the field?
Shooting on the Run
When shooting while moving, players should:
- Maintain balance by keeping their feet shoulder-width apart.
- Time their shot release with their running stride.
- Practice shooting at different speeds and angles of approach.
Time and Room Shooting
When presented with time and room to shoot, players can:
- Take an extra moment to set their feet and aim.
- Use a longer wind-up to generate more power.
- Focus on pinpoint accuracy to pick corners of the goal.
Advanced Shot Types for Experienced Players
As players progress in their lacrosse careers, they may want to add more complex shots to their repertoire. What are some advanced shot types that experienced players can incorporate into their game?
The Backhand Shot
The backhand shot, popularized by players like Lyle Thompson, can be a highly effective technique:
- Hold the stick with your hands in a reversed grip.
- Use a scooping motion to generate power.
- Release the ball when your stick is parallel to the ground.
- Practice this shot from various angles and distances.
The One-Handed Shot
The one-handed shot requires excellent stick control and can be used to surprise defenders:
- Grip the stick near the bottom with your dominant hand.
- Use a quick flicking motion of the wrist to shoot.
- Employ this shot when closely guarded or in tight spaces.
By mastering these various shooting techniques, from the fundamental overhand shot to advanced deception tactics, lacrosse players can significantly improve their scoring ability. Remember that consistent practice and a willingness to adapt to different game situations are key to becoming a proficient shooter in lacrosse. As you continue to develop your skills, focus on combining power, accuracy, and unpredictability to keep goalies and defenders guessing.

- Alley Dodge Shooting – A basic shooting technique used usually by a middie when attacking from topside.
- Backhand Shooting – The backhand shot (or shovel shot) is an advanced lacrosse shooting technique that has been popularized by Lyle Thompson.
- Behind the Back Shooting – This page looks at how to score with a lacrosse behind the back shot (or BTB shot). Behind the back shots are an advanced lacrosse shooting technique.
- Bounce Shot – This is not the simple “bounce” shot used by beginners. The lacrosse bounce shot is an advanced technique where a player fires an overhand shot so it bounces in front of the crease line and lands (scores) consistently in the top corner of the net. An even more advanced version is a sidearm shot that uses “top spin” in order to achieve a higher bounce and land in the top corner of the net.
- Cross Handed Shooting – Shooting Canadian style! This technique allows you to score even when you have caught a bad pass across your body.
- Deception Shots – Deception shots in lacrosse include players looking high but shooting low in order to deceive a goalie with their eyes (versus stick movement), looking low but shooting high, etc.
- Elevator Shot or Riser Shot – This advanced lacrosse shooting technique involves shooting underhand or with a low side arm and the ball “rising” from this low position to score in the top of the net. The trajectory of the ball is low to high.
- Fakes – This page looks at how to utilizes lacrosse fakes in order to score.
- Hitch Shot – The hitch shot adds deception to your lacrosse shooting repertoire.
- In-Close Shooting – How to shoot in-close when you are near the goal and there are many defenders around you.
- Jump Shots – A lacrosse jump shot involves leaping into the air and shooting at the same time.
- Long Pole Shooting – This page looks at shooting techniques for lacrosse defenders & LSMs.
- Off-Hand Shooting – To be a dominant lacrosse player, you need to be able to shoot and pass with your right and left hands.
- One Hand Shooting – This advanced shooting technique has been popularized by the Thompson brothers. This lacrosse shooting technique involves shooting with one hand on the stick (versus the usual two hands).
- Overhand Shooting – The lacrosse overhand shot is the most basic… and usually the most accurate lacrosse shooting technique used in lacrosse. It is the first shooting technique taught to lacrosse beginners.
- Quick Stick Shooting – This is a rapid shot used near the goal where there is minimal cradling before the shot.
- Riser Shot or Elevator Shot – This advanced lacrosse shooting technique involves shooting underhand or with a low side arm and the ball “rising” from this low position to score in the top of the net. The trajectory of the ball is low to high.
- Scoring from X – This page looks at how to shot & score from X (a position behind the cage).
- Shooting for Power – This page focusing on improving your lacrosse shot power & speed.
- Shooting on the Run – This technique involves shooting while moving (i.e. on a sweep or alley dodge). In contrast, a time and room shot is usually done from a stationary position.
- Shovel Shot – This lacrosse shooting technique is also known as a backhand shot.
- Sidearm Shooting – This page focuses on how to shoot sidearm in lacrosse.
- Sweep Shot – The sweep shot is a very common technique used by middies. This lacrosse shooting technique involves shooting while moving from side-to-side across the field versus shooting while moving towards the goal (“north-to south”).
- Three Quarters Shot – The stick in this lacrosse shot is positioned halfway between an overhand shot and a sidearm shot. Think of a clock… with the overhand shot positioned at 12, the sidearm at 3 and a three quarters shot at 1:30. Players hope to combine the accuracy of an overhand shot with the power of a sidearm shot.
- Time & Room Shooting – Time & room shots are often very accurate as the player is getting “time” for a clear outside shot on the goal.
- Twister Shots
- Underhand Shooting – Underhand shooting is an advanced lacrosse shooting technique.
- Wrap Around Shooting – Wrap around shooting involves shooting “around” a defender who acts as a screen.
Lacrosse Shooting – Beginner Basics
- For accuracy, lacrosse beginners should focus on shooting overhand (versus sidearm or underhand).
- Most beginners should aim low when shooting on the goal. It takes beginner goalies more time to move their stick down from the ready position (up near their head) and thus they are less likely to block a good low shot (i.e. aimed at the bottom right or left of the goal). Also a low shot can ricochet off the ground and into the goal (often at a strange angle which makes it even tougher for a beginner goalie). In contrast, a high shot will sail over the goal and thus there is no chance for a ricochet goal.
- To catch a lacrosse ball, kids need to place their top hand near the head of the lacrosse stick. In contrast, beginners need to bring their hand down nearer the bottom of the stick in order to generate power when shooting. However, you will see many kids bringing their top hand only marginally down the stick so they have a very weak shot (as they are not generating any leverage).
- Practice shooting from your right AND left sides. A defender will learn to easily screen you from the goal if he knows that you can shoot only one way (i. e. from your right side). However, if you can also easily score from your left, the defender will have a hard time deciding how to stop your shot and it will be easier for you to score.
Lacrosse Shooting for Power
- Lacrosse shooting power is generated by proper shooting techniques as well as arm/shoulder strength, body torque (core strength) and leg power. Visit our strength training page for ways to improve your overall strength.
- When working on your strength, don’t forget your wrist and forearm strength in order to generate a stronger “snap” to your lacrosse shot.
- An interesting lacrosse drill to improve your lacrosse shooting power is to sit on the ground and try to shoot on the goal. This will force a player to work on his “torque” and core strength in order to improve his shot.
- Check the pocket in your lacrosse head. A deep low pocket is great for cradling and protecting the ball but slows your release and thus slows your shooting power.
Lacrosse Shooting on the Run
- Shooting on the run is a hard skill for beginners to learn as too many drills have beginning players shooting from a stationary position (as their catching and shooting skills are usually poor). However, if beginners practice this skill early in their lacrosse “career”, they will become dangerous players because they will be able to create their own openings to score.
- Work on drills where beginners have to dodge past a defender (i.e. split or face dodge) and then shoot on the run at the goal.
- Also conduct drills where beginners need to catch a pass on the run and then shoot (still on the run).

There are a lot of different types of shots in a lacrosse game. You can shoot on the run off the dodge, you can take a time and room shot or shoot in close proximity to the goal. The time-and-room shot doesn’t occur a lot, but when it does, fool the goalie with a quick release.
1. Triple Threat
The first key to getting a quick release, time-and-room shot of is stepping into triple threat. As a triple threat player, we should be ready to dodge, shoot or pass in the same position. As the ball is arriving, you should be going through a recognition / decision process of what the defense is presenting. If you are within your shooting range and there isn’t another great opportunity available, the decision to shoot should be made.
2. Showing a Target
To get a good quick release shot off, it is crucial to receive a good pass where you’re looking to release the shot. If you have to catch the ball across your body due to a poor pass, the time it takes to bring your stick across and back to shoot takes away from the ability to get the shot off quickly.
3. Minimize Cradle and Steps
As you step into triple threat and catch the ball into your shooting motion, it is time to take one big step and explode into your shooting motion. The more time the ball is in your stick, the more time the defense will have to get in your gloves and the goalie with have to get square to your shot. Getting a shot off when the goalie is still moving makes for a very difficult shot to save.

5 Types of Lacrosse Shots by Hustle Training
When you first start playing lacrosse, you may be exclusively taught to use the overhand shot when aiming for the net. But as your skills improve and your competition becomes better, there will be times that the overhand shot just won’t cut it. So, having additional shots in your repertoire becomes a necessity if you want to stand out as an offensive weapon.
The five most commonly used shots after the simple overhand shot (and the ones off which nearly every variation is based) are the side arm and 3/4 set shots, on-the-run shooting, inside finishing and the jump shot.
A way to practice these shots is to set up an item between you and the net. Cones are ideal, but larger objects work too. If you cannot see over the object, that is fine. Move until you can see the net. Once you find the spot, stop — this is where you want the face of your stick to be when you release. Whatever direction the face is pointing is where the ball should go. Aim for different spots in the net as you never know what angle you’ll be shooting from during a game. Aim for the pipe and the outside of the net. If you aim for the center, you could hit the goalie during a game.
Remember that no matter where you play, the field and net will always stay in the same spot. Run the drill at different spots to mimic game-like situations.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of each type of fundamental lacrosse shot:
Side-Arm Set Shot
For sidearm set shooting, we want to understand where we are on the field and when it’s appropriate to use this type of release. A lot of coaches will tell athletes not to shoot side arm because they want them to throw overhand. However, the side arm release can be very functional because we can utilize it to increase our angle when we’re lower and closer to goal line extended. In this case, the ball is leaving the stick much closer to the center of the field than it would if I were to shoot a three quarters or an overhand or a righty release.
3/4 Set Shot
youtube.com/embed/CdTZ0qb6ixI”/>
We typically find ourselves in a balanced athletic position and our hips are perpendicular to the target. In this case, we’re shooting a three quarters release, which means the head of the stick will come through in a diagonal pattern. Oftentimes with a set shot, we can shuffle and sometimes crow hop into the release, but either way, we end up in our set position.
In this case, we also want to focus on our weight transfer to maximize both power and accuracy. We want to utilize transferring weight from our back foot onto our front foot. If we transfer all of our weight onto that front foot, what ends up happening is the back foot should swing around towards your target after the release.
On the Run Shooting with an Overhand Release
This is widely known as one of the more challenging skills in the game of lacrosse, especially when coaches are asking athletes to do it in both their strong and weak hands. The release happens off of the opposite foot as it did for set shooting. So in this case, for lefty. I’ll release off of my left foot as soon as that foot makes contact with the ground, a complete my hip rotation and let my shoulders and then hands come through direction that we’re running before, during, and after the release. We’ll have huge accuracy and power implications to maximize this. What we want to try to do is alter our momentum towards the target, regardless of which direction we’re running. To start. At the point of release, a very common mistake athletes make when they throw on the run is that they continue to run in the direction that they started. Therefore, not altering their momentum and oftentimes leading to inaccurate throws.
Inside Finishing
What I want you to notice about this is the foot work pattern. Not necessarily exactly the type of steps I’m taking, but the angle of my run. So what I’m doing is I’m cutting to the back pipe. Starting on one side of the cage and finishing on the other. So it’s going to be extremely important whether we have the ball in our stick or not. When we cut in these areas of the field, we want to cut across the cage to the back pipe.
Now with this technique of fake high finish low, I want you to notice that my fake high does not include a ton of forward and backward motion. It’s more so an up, down motion with that initial fake cradle. What that allows me to do is minimize the time it takes to go from fake to finish. Whereas if I were to bring my stick while out in front of my face, I would be increasing the amount of time it takes to then recoil my stick, giving the goalie a chance to reset. So we want to minimize that by keeping the stick behind our head for the fake, allowing us to finish a little bit quicker.
Jump Shot with an Overhand Release
youtube.com/embed/TJpLA-ZqWwM”/>
For jump shooting, we’re going to be jumping and rotating and shooting all off of one foot. Whichever foot we jump off of, we also want to land on. As well as the jump and maybe just as important, if not more, is the pivot of our foot. That’s what allows us to initiate our hip rotation and generate a lot of force on this shot, regardless of which direction we are running.
This technique is beneficial when we don’t have enough time to set our feet because of the defender that’s chasing us or a defender that’s sliding to us. So by utilizing the jump shot, as soon as we get the proper foot planted and we have the correct balance, we’ll be able to utilize this release very quickly.

ETD: Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of custom orders.
Sizes
Cradlebaby Rejectors come in 4 sizes. Two designed for field lacrosse goals (6′ x 6′) and two for box or indoor goals (4′ x 4′).
Field Lacrosse
The standard size for field goals is 4.25′ x 4.25′. This means that there’s a reasonable 10 inches or so on all sides for a successful shot. The more advanced rejectors are 5′ x 5′ and provide only about 6 inches to score.
Box Lacrosse
For box/indoor goals our standard size is 3′ x 3′. Yep, that only allows 6 inches on each side, but box players are tough. The advanced size are 3.5′ x 3.5′, which require the most accurate shot of all of our rejectors.
In Action
These industrial strength shot blockers may be lightweight and easy to set up but they can take a beating without backing down.

NCAA Women’s Lacrosse to Adopt Quarters, 60-Second Shot Clock Reset in 2022
NCAA Women’s Lacrosse to Adopt Quarters, 60-Second Shot Clock Reset in 2022
Fri Jul 23 2021 | Greg Johnson, NCAA.com | College
The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Wednesday approved a package of rules changes with the goal of making women’s lacrosse more efficient, beginning with the 2021-22 academic year.
Shortening the duration of the game without taking away the 60 minutes on the game clock dominated the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee’s discussion last month. Rules committee members also wanted to maintain the freedom-of-movement principles that were established in the summer of 2017.
LaxSportsNet put together a video package that easily explains the upcoming changes, though you can continue below for a full breakdown of the changes coming next season.
New rules coming to Women’s @NCAALAX in 2022 including:
– Quarters instead of 2 halves
– Shot clock reset to :60 seconds
– No pregame stick check pic.twitter.com/HAYvvBTgEB— Lax Sports Network (@LaxSportsNet) July 23, 2021
Members of the rules committee think fewer stoppages during games can be achieved through these modifications:
The game clock will continue running, while the possession clock would stop or reset, during the following:
The possession clock will reset to 60 seconds if 59 or fewer seconds remain on the possession clock if the offense retains possession of the ball after a save by the goalkeeper and rebound or if a shot hits the piping on the goal. If more than 59 seconds remain on the possession clock, no reset is necessary.
The game will be played in four 15-minute quarters instead of two 30-minute halves. Play will resume after two minutes, and teams would switch directions after each quarter.
Pregame stick checks will be eliminated.
Coaches will no longer be able to request stick checks during their team’s timeout.
Coaches can request stick checks at any point during halftime; during the five-minute or three-minute rest time before an overtime period; before the start of the draw before the official’s hands are on the drawers’ sticks; and in between quarters.
If the first stick check request is unsuccessful, the team will lose possession of the ball. If a second stick check request is unsuccessful, the team will lose a timeout. A team would have to have a timeout remaining to request a second stick check if the first stick check resulted in a legal ruling.
Teams will be allowed up to 12 eligible players on the field at the start of the draw. Once the official’s hands are on the drawers’ sticks, no substitutions will be allowed until a team gains possession of the ball, even if a team has fewer than 12 players on the field. Previously, teams were required to have 12 eligible players on the field before the administration of the draw. This change would eliminate any delay associated with that requirement.
If a delay is caused in administering the draw and fault cannot be determined, alternate possession will be administered in lieu of resetting the draw or administering a redraw. The team awarded possession will be permitted to self-start.
DANGEROUS CONTACT CARDS
The panel approved a mandatory card when a player’s stick makes contact with another player’s neck. Also, when a player is behind an opponent, cross-checking to the shoulders and back also would be punishable with a card.
Nike Lacrosse Tip: 3 Tips To Improve Your Shooting
Lacrosse Tip
Presented by Stacey Freda, Camp Director
Nike Girls Lacrosse Camp Lexington, MA
The focus on the fundamentals, improvement of all around lacrosse skills and team play will undoubtedly make you a better lacrosse player.
1) Changing Levels on Fakes
Visualize the cage divided up into 3 levels, high, middle and low. In order to move the goalie opposite of where you want to shoot, you must fake in a level different than where you would like to finish your shot. An example of this would be faking high and shooting low or faking to your off side high and placing it stick side middle.
2) Follow Through Towards the Target
When driving to cage, it is important to have your hips faced towards the goal and continue your drive to the cage as opposed to fading towards the outside of the 8m. When you release your shot, your stick head should finish in the same place you want the shot to end up. In order to do this follow through with your top hand.
3) Varying Your Shots
To be a successful attacker who is hard to stop, it is important to have a variety of shots you are able to execute. This can range from power shots, to finesse, risers to bounce-shots, and top corners to the goalies off-side hip. It is much harder to stop a save from an attacker when the defense and goal keeper do not know where her shot is going.

While Russian figure skaters took away all the gold medals of the European Championship in the Austrian Only the deeds of the guys on skates were extremely positive, while their colleagues with skis and rifles broke the anti-record in races without medals – there are already 26 of them. the team fits completely disassembled.Even before the start of the season, high hopes were pinned on Alexander Loginov. No other biathlete from Russia could qualify for the Big Crystal Globe, and the second final place in the total of last season gave rise to the continuation of the banquet performed by Alexander. After six stages of the World Cup, recalling the expectations of the season, only Andrey’s legendary phrase comes into his head Arshavin, said after the departure of the national team from Euro 2012. Loginov is in sixth place in the total, and in the top 30, besides him, only Matvey Eliseev climbed. The regression compared to last season cannot be called catastrophic, but the deterioration in results is obvious. So what is the reason for such a performance by our men’s team? Let’s figure it out. We didn’t do our homework. It’s worth starting with the recent revelations of the head coach of the national team Sergei Belozerov, who criticized the athletes in an interview with colleagues from Sports.ru. What happens? Can’t you trust our guys? Judging by the coach’s words, you need to watch our biathletes 24 hours a day.Okay, maybe such accusations sound too unfounded, and did the athletes have good reasons not to work with the team? There were. In mid-October, a replenishment happened in the Loginov family: a daughter was born. The reason is certainly weighty. Johannes Boe missed two World Cup stages for the same reason. The Norwegian returned just in Pokljuka and immediately won a gold medal. Be-junior himself admitted that he hardly trained at that time, and even held the rifle in his hands only once during the break. Johannes can afford to enter the race straight from the plane and immediately impose a fight for medals.Only such a case is clearly not suitable for our guys. Only Be da Martin Fourcade can keep in perfect shape, the rest need to work. Of course, allowances can be made for the elbow injury that has followed Loginov since the offseason. Inflammation is a terribly unpleasant thing, but, according to the coach of the national team Artyom Istomin, at the January stages Alexander no longer bothered with pain, and the biathlete himself is only trying to prevent a relapse, working more carefully on the track. If the injury is over, then why isn’t the athlete’s progress improving? The control points of the schedule are the places that Loginov and Eliseev occupied in the course of the races (excluding the relay races). From the second stage of the season, the results went down, and from the starts in Annecy, a real swing began, making the spread of the athletes’ course almost chaotic. And by the last mass start before the World Championships, Loginov and Eliseev’s indicators only approached their own results from the first stage, only these results themselves are far from ideal. Alexander showed the 13th move in the last race in Pokljuka, Eliseev – the 22nd.It is worth remembering that there are simply no other athletes in the top 30. Let’s also see how many of our guys are losing by the move to the fastest biathlete of the current season, Johannes Be. The easiest way to compare pure speed is to look at sprint races, where no one bothers anyone on the track. On average, Loginov loses with his feet in each sprint for 42 seconds, and Eliseev – 44 seconds. In each sprint, athletes run ten kilometers, which means that our guys lose four seconds to the leaders at each kilometer of the race.According to this indicator, Alexander is 15th, and Matvey is 18th. Johannes’ move is slightly different from last season: last year he was 30 seconds ahead of the fastest athlete by 30 seconds, this year by only ten, and a year ago, Alexander’s performance improved significantly. Only eight seconds behind on ten kilometers distance from the second place. But what do we get in the end? Loginov dropped by almost ten places. The consequences of an elbow injury certainly could not have sent our leader that far.So how did you bring the second biathlete of the world to this season? Obviously not as cool as last year. Fatal last target I can’t even remember how many times Dmitry Guberniev repeated the phrase during the last live broadcasts: “The best lubricant for skis is zero at the turn.” The backlog of Loginov and company in some races can be smoothed out only by reliable shooting. With her, too, things were not so smooth. “The guys failed their stages, used too many spare cartridges. Matvey generally got up on the last lap.According to Loginov, we still need to talk to him. The stand was not his, that’s for sure, “- the head coach of the national team Anatoly Khovantsev blurted out after the mixed relay in Pokljuka. But let’s trust the numbers. The top line is the result of the current season. Below are the results of the last World Cup and the 2017/18 season. Loginov became stronger in his work at the shooting range and significantly improved accuracy on prone. ”Better than Alexander is now shooting only seven people from total, last year there were almost four dozen people ahead of him.Eliseev made even more impressive progress, his shooting accuracy increased by 12 percent. If Eliseev’s misses are evenly distributed over the distance, then Loginov has a noticeable tilt towards the last shooting. Out of 18 races of the current season, Alexander worked cleanly during the final shooting only five times. The last target is especially “favorite” for him. A miss with the final shot left Russia without medals in the Oberhof sprint and in the Östersund and Pokljuka relay races. Loginov most often has problems with the last shot at the most crucial moment: when a medal or a place in “flowers” looms on the horizon. It is likely that this result is the cause of psychological problems, not functional ones. It is simply impossible to demand more from Maksim Maksimov, who started working with the national team in the summer. The new shooting specialist is getting the most out of the guys. With an eye on Antholz It is just over two weeks before the Biathlon World Championships. The new anti-record for races without medals directs the forecasts for the upcoming tournament exclusively in a pessimistic direction. A year ago, two of our three World Cup medals were scored by men.Loginov took silver in the sprint and, together with the guys, became the third in the relay. Today, such an alignment for the Russian national team seems almost unrealistic. Based on statistics, you can only hope for medals in relay races, where perfect shooting can neutralize work on the track. And the podium in individual races can only go to our guys with incredible luck. Before Antholz, the national team will hold a two-week high-altitude training camp in Ridnaun. There is very little time to correct the form, but it is still there. I would like to hope that at this training camp the biathletes will give up AWOL and will strictly follow the instructions of the coaching staff.Otherwise, you will have to remember the anti-records again.

The Russian national team updated the anti-record, having held 26 races without medals After six stages of the World Cup, recalling the expectations from the season, only the legendary phrase of Andrei Arshavin, said after the departure of the national team from Euro 2012, comes to mind.Loginov is in sixth place in the total, and in the top 30, besides him, only Matvey Eliseev climbed. The regression compared to last season cannot be called catastrophic, but the deterioration in results is obvious. So what is the reason for such a performance by our men’s team? Let’s figure it out.
Did not cope with homework
It is worth starting with the recent revelations of the head coach of the national team Sergei Belozerov, who criticized the athletes in an interview with colleagues from Sports.ru.
“After the stage in Annecy, almost everyone went home for a while, assuring them that they would find the opportunity to do the work on their own.I dropped the load plans for the guys. But, as it turned out, not everyone was able to do this work. The only exception is Evgeny Garanichev. And since September 22, Loginov spent almost a month at home, missing the key training camp in Ramsau for family reasons, “Belozerov said frankly. Well, perhaps such accusations sound too unfounded, and did the athletes have good reasons not to work with the team?
In mid-October, a replenishment happened in the Loginov family: a daughter was born. The reason is certainly weighty. Johannes Boe missed two World Cup stages for the same reason. If the injury is over, why isn’t the athlete’s progress improving?
Problems of the move
To do this, it is worth looking at the graph of Alexander’s move for the season. The control points of the schedule are the places that Loginov and Eliseev occupied by the course according to the results of the races (excluding relay races).
From the second stage of the season, the results went down, and from the starts in Annecy, a real swing began, making the spread of the athletes’ course almost chaotic. Stechkin’s pistol: a weapon not for everyone
Simultaneously with the Makarov pistol, another 9-mm pistol, Stechkin, appeared in the Soviet Union.Reliable, accurate and battle-proven, it also fires in bursts. Today, the APS is no longer produced, although this weapon is still in demand by professionals.
Igor Yakovlevich Stechkin (1922-2001), the creator of the APS, had the innate talent of a gunsmith. At the age of 14, the future designer accidentally fell into the hands of a broken “Nagant”. The teenager managed not only to fix it, but also to improve it.
Having matured, Stechkin participated in the creation of anti-tank guided missiles “Fagot” and “Konkurs”, automatic machines “Modern” and “Abakan”, revolvers “Cobalt” and “Gnome”, pistols “Dart”, “Berdysh” and “Pernach”, proposed to replace PM and APS.Among the various models developed by Stechkin, there is even a pistol in the form of an ordinary cigarette case with special cartridges that do not give any noise, smoke or flame during a shot.
In total, the designer has more than 60 developments and over 50 inventions. A third of the weapons he created are still in service. But the most famous was the APS.
The automatic pistol was the topic of Igor Yakovlevich’s thesis during his studies at the Tula Mechanical Institute.By the way, Nikolai Fedorovich Makarov himself, the creator of the famous PM, was a consultant to the graduate. The story that happened to Stechkin during the defense is widely known. One of the members of the commission, having familiarized himself with the drawings of the 7.62-mm pistol presented by the graduate, confidently stated that this model is “complete nonsense” and is simply incapable of shooting. Stechkin took a sample he had made from his pocket and fired at the ceiling. As a result, the commission appreciated his diploma perfectly, and yesterday’s student was entrusted with the development of such a weapon for a 9-mm cartridge.
Having started working at TsKB-14, the young engineer coped with the task in just a year. The first prototype of the 9mm automatic pistol was presented by him in 1949.
Soon, after a number of improvements and tests, the development was adopted by the USSR Armed Forces under the name of the 9-mm Stechkin automatic pistol (APS). And since 1951, at the Vyatsko-Polyansky Arms Plant “Molot”, which is now part of the structure of Rostec, its serial production began.
APS can fire both single shots and bursts. Initially, it was intended to arm those officers and privates who were not entitled to an assault rifle or a carbine according to the staff, and the personal “Makarov” in battle was clearly not enough.
“Stechkin” turned out to be as simple in design and, accordingly, in service as “Makarov”. But at the same time, it is much more powerful – due to the longer barrel length and increased magazine capacity. In addition, the APS has a holster-butt (at first wooden, and in the latest models made of molded plastic), adjacent to the handle, the use of which significantly increases the accuracy of shooting.
Due to a longer barrel and optimal internal ballistics, the sound of an APS shot is quieter than that of a Makarov pistol. And the presence of a tempo retarder provides Stechkin with good controllability even when firing in bursts (700-750 rounds per minute).
One of the indisputable advantages of the APS – especially in close combat conditions – is the low recoil and very little toss of the weapon when fired. This quality allows for high-speed shooting with single shots with a high accuracy of hits. And also, importantly, control the consumption of cartridges.
Stechkin has a solid safety margin. The operating time of some pistols reached 40 thousand shots without cracks in the bolt and other breakdowns.
And, finally, the main thing: despite the use of a cartridge with low ballistic qualities and a small angle of inclination of the handle, the Stechkin pistol has a rather high firing accuracy – more than that of the Makarov. Thanks to this quality, it gained particular popularity and gained significant distribution among the employees of the KGB of the USSR, as well as servicemen of some special forces of the GRU.
The Stechkin automatic pistol – an intermediate version between pistols and submachine guns – was recognized as one of the most successful small arms created in the Soviet era.
So, at first, the history of “Stechkin” practically one to one repeated the fate of the Makarov pistol. And yet, in 1958, after only seven years from the start of mass production, the production of APS was discontinued, and the bulk of the army pistols ended up in warehouses.
Military historians explain this by the fact that during the operation, some of the advantages of the APS turned into disadvantages. It turned out that because of the heavy butt holster, which improves the accuracy of shooting, it is inconvenient to carry the Stechkin with you. The mass of the APS without cartridges and the butt holster is 1.02 kg, the holster weighs another 0.56 kg. And in addition, along with a pistol, it was supposed to carry four equipped spare magazines (with 20 rounds in each) in pouches.
The dimensions of the pistol also do not suit many.A holster is again added to its 225 mm length – and this is another 540 mm. You need to get used to the Stechkin: the handle with a small angle of inclination does not allow you to fire “instinctively”, offhand.
As a result, the APS turned out to be too bulky a weapon for the staff officers, and not powerful enough for the combat ones, they needed a real small-sized machine gun.
And yet, the APS was in service with certain categories of servicemen until the early 1980s.
APS pistols were actively supplied abroad. They, for example, were presented as gifts to the leaders of friendly countries. Thus, Stechkin’s pistols became the personal weapons of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara. Then the supply volumes increased. And in the 1960-1970s, the APS was used by the rebels during local clashes in Libya, Angola, Mozambique.
During the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989), in the conditions of fighting in the narrow streets of villages and in the labyrinths of wells, stones and ruins, Stechkin proved to be literally irreplaceable. Therefore, in the early 1980s, its production was temporarily resumed. Special-purpose units widely used APB (silent automatic pistol) – a version of the APS equipped with a silent-flameless firing device (silencer).
In the 90s, due to the growth of crime, the Ministry of Internal Affairs required a more powerful weapon than the “Makarov” that was in service. And Stechkin’s pistol came in handy again. Submachine gun bullets, too powerful, pierced walls and ricocheted, posing a threat to civilians. The conventional self-loading pistol, on the other hand, was too weak a weapon. A multi-shot, fast-firing and moderately powerful APS was the ideal option.
The law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation still use the Stechkin pistol. So, despite the cessation of production, it is too early to write off Stechkin.
Peltor Headphones for Shooting and Hunting
1 June 2018
Peltor manufactures a wide range of specialized hearing and eye protection products to meet the specific needs of shooting and hunting people. All products are developed taking into account the opinions of hunters, sports shooters, military organizations and the police.
You can be proud of the result of this work – a unique series of hearing and vision protection for shooters of all categories has been created.
The Peltor company offers ear muffs that meet the requirements of each individual shooter and are designed to protect the organ of hearing from the noise of the shot.
The Peltor ear muffs are designed to withstand the special kind of noise associated with shooting. This impulse noise is particularly damaging to hearing, and even one single shot can permanently damage your hearing.
For the shooter, concentration is especially important.
ear muffs can cause distraction and discomfort
arrow. Low two-point attachment of ear cups to the headband provides perfect
distribution of pressure along the entire perimeter of the isolating rollers, and does not allow the cups to move during sudden movements of the head and aiming.Comfort is ensured even when wearing the headphones for a long time.
Peltor anti-noise ear muffs with active protection feature the advanced
electronics, a frequency filter and built-in microphones that instantly respond to the sharp sound of a shot, while wearing these headphones can hear speech and faint sounds up to ten times better than wearing conventional ear muffs.
The use of anti-noise headphones with an active protection function offers numerous advantages in hunting, since due to the active amplification of speech and ensuring a good orientation to the sound source, the hunter can easily hear and find the game and his dog even at a great distance.
All Peltor ear muffs with active shielding reproduce sound in the
stereo mode, which provides the maximum approximation to the natural perception of sounds. This allows you to accurately determine the location of the sound source, which is especially important for hunters who, along with reliable hearing protection, need to quickly find the sound source. Some models even have a function of adjusting the stereo gain depending on the individual needs of the user, for example, to compensate for hearing impairment in one ear.
Peltor headphones provide protection from harmful noise while allowing you to communicate freely with the world around you – and it’s not only convenient, but also safer.
With the Peltor ear muffs, you can hear sounds from a long distance, which is extremely important for hunter team leaders.
Hells and alarms quickly reach your ears.
Peltor ear muffs can be used in conjunction with a radio station in order to listen to commands, for example, when hunting together.
Using the MT7-F6AB kit, you can turn the headphones into a telephone headset for full two-way communication.
90,000 Actionism will not save Russia: Kisevich’s weak messianism
NETWORK publishes the remarks of editors – Max Evstropov and Roman Osminkin – about Pavel Krysevich’s action.
On June 11, on Red Square, Pavel Krysevich carried out an action imitating suicide: while reading out the manifesto, he fired two warning shots upward with blank cartridges, then raised a pistol to his head, after which a pack of police officers flew into him, of which there are always a great many on Red Square, and knocked him to the ground. He was detained together with journalist Nika Samusik (which was already beyond good and evil), they were kept in isolation for more than 48 hours before the trial, as a result, after the trial, Nika was released, and Pavel was sent to a pre-trial detention center for 2 months on suspicion of committing a criminal offense. Article 213.2 (hooliganism with the use of weapons), according to which he will be fined up to a million, forced labor or up to 7 years in prison.
I can’t say that I liked Krysevich’s actions before – although, on the other hand, they did not cause irritation either: everything is too straightforward, closer to political activism than to art, and the dude acts in some completely old-school logic of heroic actionism, of its predecessors, perhaps, standing closest to Pavlensky, since there is also critically little irony in his actions. However, unlike Pavlensky, what Krysevich does is more about solidarity, and somehow no longer produces the effect of a scorched field on which a lone Hero takes the System to show off (however, these are all rather superficial impressions, and I can be wrong). But his gesture on June 11 hooked me, and for a variety of reasons, not always directly related to what “the artist wanted to say.”
Firstly, the action of Krysevich as an event demonstrates that the theory of “three waves” of actionism is not entirely correct. This theory, voiced in 2017 by Pavlo Mitenko and Sylvia Chassen [1], suggests that the third wave of Russian actionism, which replaced the 2 “heroic” waves of actionism of the 90s and “artivism” of the 00s, dissolves it in distributed practices concerns, where there is no place for “heroism” or transgression, thereby, as it were, finally “humanizing” it. Krysevich makes it as if there was no third wave at all – but, in my opinion, this is not just a deviation from some dominant trend, but a demonstration of the coexistence of different logics.Reaction time – a situation on the basis of which Krisevich acts in the same way as a representative of the third wave – this is a flattened time in which waves, if any, overlap each other. The reaction time is non-linear – for more than 20 years of Putinism, this has long been convincing. The flaw in the wave theory of actionism, it seems to me, is in its progressive logic (which, as Benjamin said [2], is the logic of winners – and this is its fundamental flaw).
Secondly, a pistol shot as an artistic act is, of course, beautiful (now you will write poetry with revolvers, William Blake, Brion Gysin or Chris Burden), but Krysevich’s action, somehow documented between strollers and tourists, is not about that.It is about the political climate in the Russian Federation and similar contexts, which has long been a climate of political (self) murder. Which, in turn, is symptomatic: looking at Krysevich’s action, one involuntarily asks the question: would it have made a greater impression if he had not fired blank cartridges, and not only at himself? At the end of his manifesto, we are talking about the shots in front of the Kremlin curtain. This is a very alarming action, demonstrating the extreme fragility of the border between symbolic and real violence, as well as the fact that Russia is getting closer to this border, already very close, or already with one foot there, and soon we will hear shots no longer with blank cartridges (it is unknown, though which side).
Third, with his gesture Krisevich (re) creates a (micro) revolutionary situation: the abolition of fear, here and now. Of course, this is a dangerous and largely dead-end situation, and one of the few available means of updating or resolving it in Putin’s Russia is self-destruction in its various forms – from depression to suicide. Krysevich’s manifesto contains an apocalyptic or messianic cancellation of time (“there will be no more fear”), there is even a temporary confusion indicative of this cancellation in the last phrase: “shots will follow before the Kremlin curtain” – “will they follow … before?” It is interesting that the manifesto also speaks of “religious fear pressing from the sky”, which makes us recall the suicide of Kirillov from “Demons”, who also tried to eliminate existential fear with his gesture.
And finally: you can treat the artistic side of Krysevich’s gestures in different ways, but an attempt to impose a criminal article on him for an artistic action not related to violence, insult, damage to property, etc., is too much. And, if there is an artistic, or, at least, an artistic and activist community, then it would be necessary to somehow solidify on this issue, make public statements – now, at least, you can already sign an open letter in support of it [3] …
(Max Evstropov)
Do esports players need sophisticated video cards? And does it mean that the more FPS, the less lags in the game? Finally, the settings in the GPU driver to reduce lag – do they work at all? Now we can give a confident answer to all these questions thanks to the new LDAT tool, which allows you to measure the reaction time directly from pressing a button to the image on the monitor. ⇣ Contents The gaming capabilities of computers and individual components of the system have been measured from time immemorial in frames per second, and the gold standard of testing is long-term benchmarks, which allow you to compare various devices in terms of stable performance. However, in recent years, GPU performance has been looked at from a different angle. In the reviews of video cards, graphs of the rendering duration of individual frames appeared, the question of FPS stability arose at its full height, and the average frame rate is now usually accompanied by the minimum values filtered by the border of the 99th percentile of the frame time. Improvements in test methods are aimed at finding delays that dissolve in the average frame rate, but sometimes quite noticeable to the naked eye of the user. Nevertheless, any software measuring instruments operating inside the test system give only an indirect estimate of the hidden variable, which is decisive for a comfortable game – the time delay between pressing a button on the keyboard or mouse and changing the picture on the monitor. We have to be guided by a simple rule, which says that the higher the FPS in the game and the more stable it is, the shorter the response time to input will be. Moreover, part of the problem has already been solved by fast monitors with a refresh rate of 120, 144 or 240 Hz, not to mention future 360-Hz screens. However, gamers, especially players in competitive multiplayer games, who are looking for the slightest advantage over their rivals in the hardware and are ready to assemble overclocked computers to order for dozens of extra FPS in CS: GO, have not yet had the opportunity to estimate input lag directly. After all, methods as precise and laborious as capturing the screen with a high-speed camera are only available in a laboratory setting. But now that’s about to change – meet LDAT (Latency Display Analysis Tool), a versatile hardware tool for measuring gaming latency.Readers familiar with acronyms such as FCAT might guess that this is an NVIDIA product. Indeed, the company has offered the device to select IT publications, including 3DNews. Let’s see if a new measurement technique can shed light on the mysterious phenomenon of input lag and help gamers with the choice of components for esports competitions. ⇡ #LDAT – how it works The principle of LDAT is very simple. The core of the system is a high-speed light sensor with a microcontroller, which is mounted at the desired point on the screen.A modified mouse is connected to it, and the control software via the USB interface records the time separating the key press and the local jump in the image brightness. Thus, if we place the sensor over the barrel of a weapon in a shooter, we will get the exact value of the delay that the monitor, computer and the entire software stack (including device drivers, game and operating system) need to react to user actions. The beauty of this approach is that the LDAT operation does not depend at all on what hardware and what programs are installed on the computer. The fact that NVIDIA is concerned about the production of another measuring instrument, which is also available only to a limited circle of IT journalists, hints that the company is trying to highlight the advantages of its own products in comparison with competitors (this already happened with FCAT several years ago). Indeed, 360Hz G-SYNC monitors are about to hit the market, and game developers will start using NVIDIA Reflex libraries to reduce latency in Direct3D 12 games.Nevertheless, we are sure that LDAT itself does not give any concessions to the “green” video cards and does not distort the results of the “red” ones, because the device does not have any access to the configuration of the experimental hardware when it is connected with a USB cable to another machine running the control ON. Needless to say, LDAT opens up enormous prospects in its field of application. Compare gaming monitors (and even TVs) with one or another refresh rate and different types of matrices, check how the adaptive synchronization technologies G-SYNC and FreeSync affect the latency, scaling the frame using a video card or monitor – all this has become possible. But first, we decided to focus on a narrower task and check how several competitive games, sharpened for high FPS and low reaction times, work on video cards of various price categories. More precisely, we are interested in two main questions: is the excess frame rate a guarantee of low latency and under what conditions it makes no sense to increase it (and, therefore, to buy a more powerful video card). In particular, is it useful to exceed the frame rate corresponding to the refresh rate of the screen if you are lucky enough to own a high-speed 240-Hz monitor. For testing, we chose four popular multiplayer projects – CS: GO, DOTA 2, Overwatch and Valorant, which are undemanding enough that modern GPUs, including budget models, can develop performance at the level of hundreds of FPS. At the same time, the listed games allow you to easily organize an environment for reliably measuring the reaction time, when constant conditions are most important: the same position of the character, one weapon in each test, etc.For this reason, we had to postpone benchmarks for the time being in games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. In PUBG, there is simply no way to isolate from other players even on the test site, and Fortnite in the single-player Battle Lab is still not protected from random loot and, accordingly, makes it impossible to test multiple video cards with the same weapon within a reasonable timeframe. In addition, the advantage of selected games is that they run under the Direct3D 11 API, which, unlike Direct3D 12, allows the video card driver to set limits on the frame rendering queue that the central processor can prepare for rendering on the GPU in the software graphics pipeline. Under standard conditions, especially when the bottleneck of the system is the computational resources of the video card, the frame queue is increased up to three by default, or, if required by the application, even more. In this way, Direct3D provides continuous GPU utilization and a constant rendering rate. But this has a side effect in the form of a delay in the response to input, because the API does not allow pre-scheduled frames to be dropped from the queue. It is to combat lag that the corresponding settings in the video card drivers are aimed, which AMD popularized under the Radeon Anti-Lag brand, and then NVIDIA got a similar Low Latency Mode option. Nevertheless, such measures are not a universal remedy for delays: for example, if the performance of a game is constrained by the capabilities of the central processor, not the GPU, a short frame queue (or its complete absence) only makes the CPU bottleneck narrower. In addition to the rest of the test program, we intend to find out if there is any tangible benefit from the “technologies” of Radeon Anti-Lag and Low Latency Mode, in which games and on what hardware. ⇡ #Test stand, testing methodology
Measurements of frame rate and response time in all games were carried out at maximum or close to maximum graphics quality settings in order to a) accentuate the differences between the compared devices, b) get results as at a high frame rate higher than the screen refresh rate and vice versa.Especially for this article, we borrowed a fast Samsung Odyssey 9 (C32G75TQSI) monitor with WQHD resolution and 240 Hz refresh rate – the maximum for modern consumer monitors, while 360 Hz screens have not yet appeared on the market. Adaptive refresh rate technologies (G-SYNC and FreeSync) have been disabled. The results of each individual test (a specific video card in a specific game with or without an anti-lag driver setting) were obtained on a sample of 50 measurements.
⇡ #Test participants
Note. In brackets after the names of video cards, the base and boost frequencies are indicated according to the specifications of each device. Video cards of non-reference design are brought in accordance with the reference parameters (or close to the latter), provided that this can be done without manual editing of the clock frequency curve. Otherwise (accelerators of the GeForce 16 series, as well as GeForce RTX Founders Edition), the manufacturer’s settings are used. ⇡ #Counter-Strike: Global Offensive The test results in the very first game, CS: GO, gave a lot of food for the mind. This is the lightest project in the entire test program, where graphics cards such as the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti reach frame rates beyond 600 FPS and even the weakest of the eight test takers (GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER and Radeon RX 590) keep well above the refresh rate. monitor at 240 Hz. Nevertheless, CS: GO perfectly illustrated the thesis that increasing FPS above the monitor frequency is not at all useless to reduce latency. If we compare the video cards of the upper group (GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER and above, as well as the Radeon RX 5700 XT) with the younger models (GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER, GeForce GTX 1060, Radeon RX 5500 XT and Radeon RX 590), we are talking about one and a half times difference in total time elapsed from pressing the mouse button until the flash appears on the screen. In absolute terms, the gain reaches 9.2 ms – at first glance, not much, but, for example, changing the screen refresh rate from 60 to 144 Hz (9.7 ms) gives almost the same! Regarding how latency time relates to video cards belonging to the same broad price category, but based on chips from different manufacturers, we did not find significant differences in each group. The same goes for options in the accelerator drivers designed to reduce lag by reducing the frame queue in Direct3D 11.On CS: GO (at least under these test conditions), they usually have no useful effect. In the group of weak video cards there is a slight shift in the reaction time, but only in the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER it reached statistical significance in the results. Note. Saturation icons indicate results with standard driver settings. Faint icons – with the Low Latency Mode option enabled (Ultra value) or Radeon Anti-Lag. Pay attention to the vertical scale – it starts above zero.
Note Statistically significant differences in the average reaction time (by Student’s t-test) are highlighted in red. Although DOTA 2 is also considered an undemanding game by current standards, it is more difficult for modern video cards to reach several hundred FPS in it. So, all the budget solutions participating in the comparison dropped below the frame rate of 240 frames per second, which corresponds to the screen refresh rate. Powerful accelerators, starting with the Radeon RX 5700 XT and GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, produce over 360 FPS here, but, unlike CS: GO, DOTA 2 more effectively directs excess GPU speed to combat lag.In the previous game, a video card of the level of the Radeon RX 5700 XT was enough, so that there was no point in increasing performance further for the sake of reaction time. Here, the latency continues to decrease on more powerful video cards up to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. It should be noted that questions about the results of the Radeon RX 5700 XT in this game arise. The current AMD flagship far surpasses even the GeForce RTX 2060 in latency and is no better than the younger models, despite the higher frame rate. But shortening the frame rendering queue in DOTA 2 is really useful. The effect is not so great that even experienced cyber athletes would notice it, but it is statistically significant for four video cards out of eight Note.
⇡ #Overwatch Overwatch – the heaviest of the four test games at maximum graphics quality with full-screen anti-aliasing enabled. Unsurprisingly, every gigaflops of GPU performance benefits the response time here. The range of lag values in Overwatch between video cards such as the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and the Radeon RX 5500 XT is twofold. The numbers also indicate that more powerful video cards than the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER only increase FPS, but they can no longer speed up the reaction even nominally. But replacing the Radeon RX 5700 XT or GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER with the notorious RTX 2070 SUPER, in theory, makes sense in order to minimize lag while maintaining high graphics quality. In addition, in Overwatch, one of the accelerators on the “red” chips showed itself from a bad side again. This time, the Radeon RX 5500 XT, which significantly surpasses all other budget solutions in terms of the average response time. Overwatch once again helped to prove that a) the performance of a video card even at high frame rates still affects the lag value, b) a formally more efficient GPU does not guarantee lower input response delays. In addition to all this, the game demonstrated the reference work of the anti-lag settings of the graphics driver. When playing on relatively weak graphics cards (GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER, GeForce GTX 1060, Radeon RX 5500 XT, and Radeon 590), the reduced frame queue can reduce lag by 9% to 17%.Well, for powerful hardware, it is still completely useless.
Valorant stood out among the test games with excellent – or, conversely, mediocre – graphics optimization. The fact is that, despite the huge difference in the potential performance of the test GPUs according to the estimates of the frame rate, they all concentrated in the range from 231 to 309 FPS. And this despite the fact that we deliberately chose the most resource-intensive scene for the latency measurements in order to amplify the expected differences.Nevertheless, the distribution of lag values in Valorant is somewhat similar to CS: GO. In this game, owners of a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER or Radeon RX 5700 XT are on an equal footing with users of more expensive and powerful accelerators. Even the low-end video cards of the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER and Radeon RX 5500 XT class are not that far behind the older ones here. Given such input, it is not surprising that limiting the Direct3D frame queue in Valorant is useless: the corresponding settings have a statistically significant effect for selected video cards, but its value is absolutely scanty.
⇡ #Conclusions Measurement of reaction latency in games with hardware gave rich results, which, frankly, call into question the methods of evaluating the speed of video cards accepted in the industry, when the frame rate has been the only measured parameter for several decades. Of course, FPS and lag are closely correlated with each other, but, at least in esports games, when there is a struggle for every millisecond of latency, the frame rate no longer allows us to give an exhaustive description of the performance. In a short study of popular multiplayer projects, we discovered several interesting phenomena. Firstly, our data refutes the popular opinion that it makes no sense to increase FPS beyond the values corresponding to the screen refresh rate. Even on a very fast 240 Hz monitor, games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can reduce the lag by one and a half times by switching from a budget video card to a top model. We are talking about the same gain in response time, as, for example, when switching from a 60 Hz screen to 144 Hz. On the other hand, the frame rate can still be excessive, when a more powerful video card only heats the air in vain and no longer helps to fight the already extremely low latencies. In all 1080p games we tested, we found no significant difference between devices such as the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER and the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The absolute minimum response time recorded by us is 17.7 ms and was obtained in DOTA 2. This, by the way, is not such a modest value, which, if translated into a refresh rate, corresponds to 57 hertz. So the following conclusion suggests itself: the upcoming monitors with a frequency of 360 Hz will definitely find use in competitive games – this is a direct way to reduce lag when the computer hardware has already exhausted its capabilities and rests on the limitations of the thick software stack of the operating system, graphics API, drivers and the game itself. Then we checked if there is any benefit from the latency control software, which so far boils down to limiting the frame rendering queue in applications relying on the Direct3D graphics API 9 and 11 – the notorious Radeon Anti-Lag in the AMD driver and Low Latency Mode from NVIDIA …As it turned out, both “technologies” really work, but can bring tangible benefits only in conditions when the bottleneck of the system is the GPU, and not the central processor. In our test system with an overclocked Intel Core i7-9900K processor, such tools helped inexpensive graphics cards of the middle performance category (Radeon RX 5500 XT, GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER and similar accelerators of the previous generation), but they are completely meaningless when there is a powerful GPU.However, when the anti-lag settings work, they can be extremely effective, reducing latency in an Overwatch by as much as 10ms, or 17% of the original. Finally, there were certain differences between graphics cards from different manufacturers that could not be predicted from the frame rate alone. So, AMD video cards sometimes provide the same short latency as formally more productive “green” devices (example: Radeon RX 5700 XT in CS: GO), and in other cases they work suspiciously slow (the same model in DOTA 2).We will not be surprised that if hardware lag measurement techniques like LDAT become widespread, avid cyber athletes who are fighting for the slightest advantage over their rivals will begin to select video cards for a specific game – depending on which model provides the shortest response time. But most importantly, thanks to LDAT, we now have the opportunity to conduct deeper studies of latency. What we’ve done in this preview is just the tip of the iceberg.Topics such as the impact of adaptive synchronization technologies (G-SYNC and FreeSync) on lag, limiting the FPS in the game, dependence on CPU performance and much more are still beyond the scope of this article. In addition, we are going to find out whether a high frame rate of hundreds of FPS and, accordingly, a quick response to input is achievable not only in competitive games specially optimized for these criteria, but also in AAA class projects that load the system much more. Therefore, does the average gamer, and not the champion, need a cutting-edge monitor with a refresh rate of 240 or even 360 Hz? We will answer these questions in future works using LDAT. Hooters
Fuckers become icons for atheists
Chicks still want sex sex bassists, sex pistols.
They still want to see Kurt Cobain on stage,
And all these wants have long been hung with a price tag.
Pohuists are becoming icons for atheists,
Chicks still want sex sex bassists, sex pistols.
They still want to see Kurt Cobain on stage,
And all these wants have long been hung with a price tag.
The corporations trade in the cloudy packaging revolution,
Read the instructions in the package insert, don’t worry about overdosing.
Refined pont is safe in any quantity,
From scanty – to prohibitively astronomical.
The rappers are chattering in your headphones or the hairworms are buzzing,
This is fucking economical and math.
The difference between culture and marketing, when you look at it
Same as between ananism and masturbation.
After all, we are born only to reproduce,
And everything that is not connected with this is stickiness and sublimation.
People are afraid of death, but die at the same time from boredom,
Hey fool, cheer them up, lay hands on yourself.
After all, pokhuist give a fuck that pokhuizm is bad,
Especially when he’s already dead because of him.
Yes, you were loved alive, but now is a different era,
Lick the clitoris of history, awaken lust in the necrophilia.
Pohuists are becoming icons for atheists,
Chicks still want sex sex bassists, sex pistols.
They still want to see Kurt Cobain on stage,
And all these wants have long been hung with a price tag.
Pohuists are becoming icons for atheists,
Chicks still want sex sex bassists, sex pistols.
They still want to see Kurt Cobain on stage,
And all these wants have long been hung with a price tag.
While some use their 20th caliber,
Others relish in detail the details of their death.
Still others are splashing saliva, exclaiming: “Thank you”,
Still others are balancing and calculating profits.
While the people are hawking, while they are demanding the masses,
The pump pumps souls from the corpses – hour after hour.
Into the motor that turns the imperishable spirit into bucks,
The machine is running, the zombies are demanding meat.
Dude, this new track, it’s really weak,
And the music is not the same, the words are not the same.
And your whole last album is a complete failure,
Well, not that feces, well, not like the first two.
And your antics, they are no longer demolishing our towers,
On TV, all this shocking of yours is not impressive.
You know, but the sight of your face makes us feel sick,
When will you be the same as before? Fuck it already.
Come on, dude, it’s not scary at all,
Come on a noose around your neck, or from a skyscraper of towers.
Come on, what does it cost you? One Shot,
I’m dying of boredom, don’t be selfish.

As I remember now, you were my idol,
Now your image and style is already washed out to the holes.
Your teeth and posters have turned yellow for a hundred years,
Your unshaven mug will not crawl into the TV set.
Look, even your fans will soon forget,
Do not autopsy to pathologists.
Only Retro FM will play songs,
They will ask for a signature, not an autograph.
If you’re tired or worn out, at least
There is a proven way to leave by slamming the door.
Sacrifice yourself and become a media icon,
It’s just beautiful and loud to die.
When you commit suicide, or die of AIDS,
Everyone will give a fuck about rumors that you are a drug or a fagot.
The industry is happy, everything is ready for a sensation,
Come on, dare, the show will go on.
