The Forbes portal presented the annual rating of the most expensive and profitable NHL clubs – The Business of Hockey. For the first time in history, the total revenue of clubs in the league exceeded $5 billion. The profit of all teams amounted to 776 million – also a new record. Compared to the 2017/18 season, club earnings increased by $225m (4.63%).
The most valuable team in the NHL in 2019 is the New York Rangers, who have topped the rankings for the fifth year in a row.
The remaining positions in the top 5 have not changed since last year – these are Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and Boston.

WHY IS THE RANGERS SO EXPENSIVE?
Forbes received all the data for the rating directly from the owners of the club, or from representatives of the franchise, as well as from official documents and the analytical agency Pollstar.
The Rangers’ income was 270 million. According to Forbes, the club earned about 80 million from the sale of tickets and VIP boxes. More than 40 million team owners have brought sponsorship deals. The club’s partners include Kia Motors, Lexus, Pepsi. How much New Yorkers earn from each transaction is not reported.
An important advantage of the Rangers over the rest is that the club actually owns the Madison Square Garden arena. Therefore, the “rangers” also earn from renting the palace for shows and concerts. This brought the owners of the club more than 30 million dollars.
