The television news director Joel Banow absorbed endless hours of “terrible old B movies” filled with extraterrestrials and rocket ships long before he oversaw the production of an authentic space opera.
While the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were making history above, Mr. Banow played his part on the ground, helming the coverage of the Apollo 11 mission for CBS News while standing on his feet like an orchestra conductor.
Mr. Banow treated the 32 hours of programming on July 20 and July 21, 1969, like “a big blockbuster kind of motion picture,” he said in an interview, which meant days of rehearsal, custom animation and a cast of correspondents and producers so large that the end credits lasted seven minutes.
It was one of the first global news media spectaculars. The director said he had prepared for the job by having helped with the coverage of the previous Apollo missions and several Gemini and Mercury launches.
As the Eagle module touched down on the moon, applause flared up behind Mr. Banow in the CBS News studio on West 57th Street in Manhattan. He cut to Wally Schirra, a Project Mercury astronaut working as a CBS News consultant, catching the retired spaceman in the act of wiping away a tear. Mr. Banow followed that shot with a glimpse of the network’s star anchor, the usually composed Walter Cronkite, who grabbed his nose and shook his head, momentarily at a loss for words.
Hours later, at 10:56 p.m., a hazy black-and-white image flashed on the screen of Armstrong advancing gingerly down a ladder. When he stepped onto the lunar surface, Mr. Banow finally took a seat.
“I felt pride that I was a part of this, and also wonder that NASA managed to do it without a glitch,” Mr. Banow, now 84, said. “They did it. We did it. It was really kind of a relief.”
The coverage of the event had come about thanks to recent advances in media technology. In 1962, the first live trans-Atlantic broadcast — showing images of the Statue of Liberty, President Kennedy and a baseball game — was transmitted via satellite. A more ambitious live satellite broadcast, in 1967, showed the Beatles performing “All You Need Is Love” at Abbey Road Studios in London. More than 350 million people around the world were watching.
Roughly 600 million people, a fifth of the world’s population, saw Armstrong set foot on the moon, a viewership record that held until Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles in 1981.
All three major American broadcast networks — CBS, NBC and ABC — covered the Apollo 11 mission, with CBS dominating the ratings. In the United States, 94 percent of people watching television were tuned into the event.
People who did not own TV sets or found themselves away from home kept up with the coverage from bars, town squares and department stores, said David Meerman Scott, the co-author of the 2014 book “Marketing the Moon.”
Many astronauts and engineers resisted the live-broadcast plan, expressing concerns about the extra weight of the filming equipment. But at NASA’s insistence, Armstrong’s moonwalk was captured by a Westinghouse camera covered in a protective thermal blanket and tucked into the lunar module. The signal bounced from the module’s antenna through microwave links, satellites and landlines around the world. The picture was degraded before it reached viewers.
The BBC covered the event with less reverence than its American counterparts, dubbing David Bowie’s just-released single, “Space Oddity,” onto the footage beamed back from the moon. During a break in the action, the BBC gave viewers about five minutes of Pink Floyd jamming live from the network’s studio on a bluesy song called “Moonhead,” as well as dramatic readings with a lunar theme from Ian McKellen and Judi Dench.
Networks in the United States rounded out their coverage with hours of analysis and moon-related entertainment. On ABC, the science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov chatted with Rod Serling, the creator of “The Twilight Zone” television series. The network had also commissioned Duke Ellington to create something new for the occasion. He made his television debut as a vocalist, performing the song he had composed, “Moon Maiden,” live on the air.

Headline writers conveyed the news with attempts at deadline poetry. The Kokomo Tribune, in Indiana, went with “Astronauts Etch Names Beside History’s Great Explorers.” The Oil City Derrick, in Pennsylvania, was more succinct: “Yanks Land on Moon.” The New York Times’s banner headline — the straightforward “Men Walk on Moon” — was set in some of the largest type ever used in the paper.
The coverage of Apollo 11 was subdued in Moscow. “It was not secret, but it was not shown to the public,” Sergei Khrushchev, the son of the former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, told Scientific American in 2009.
In the United States, NASA had spent years molding its astronauts into mythic figures, giving Life magazine exclusive access as part of its attempt to shape public opinion. Americans became emotionally invested in the crew members thanks to cover stories documenting the “making of a brave man” and the “inner thoughts and worries” of the spacemen’s wives.
“That had a large effect in showing how big a deal it is to go to space, and it helped to make the astronaut-as-celebrity culture come alive,” Mr. Scott, the author, said. “You’d flip through magazine pages and see Joe DiMaggio, a hero of baseball, and then a few pages later, an astronaut. That’s mythmaking.”
For balance, Life magazine also dispatched Norman Mailer, a writer not known for pulling punches, to cover the mission. He characterized Armstrong as “wooden” and “extraordinarily remote.”
The advertising industry got in on the craze, too. In one ad, Panasonic showed astronauts on the moon watching a television set under the words “Now you can watch the Russians coming even if you’re 250,000 miles from home.” Space-themed ads also appeared from Stouffer’s, Sony, Ford, United, Motorola and other companies.
After the Apollo 11 crew members returned to Earth and emerged from quarantine, they embarked on a good-will tour of more than 20 countries. It was, according to Mr. Scott, a way to cast a warm glow over the United States during a tumultuous time, showing that the country was capable of “something positive for humanity that was completely the opposite of what was going on with the Vietnam War.”
Apollo 11 went on to have a long media afterlife. MTV opened for business in 1981 with a montage of NASA images from the mission assembled by a Greenwich Village firm, Manhattan Design. The cable network still hands out trophies inspired by Apollo 11 at its annual awards ceremony.
Armstrong, an unassuming Midwesterner who once described himself as “a white-socks, pocket-protector, nerdy engineer,” made an exception to his habit of avoiding media hoopla in the years after he walked on the moon by talking up Chrysler cars in a 1979 Super Bowl commercial.
The less publicity-averse Mr. Aldrin appeared in a “Transformers” movie, competed on “Dancing With the Stars” and teamed up with Snoop Dogg on a song called “Rocket Experience.” He has said that being in the spotlight contributed to his divorces and years of drinking and depression. And he was less than thrilled not to receive compensation for inspiring the name of a “Toy Story” character, Buzz Lightyear.
As the years went by, conspiracy theorists claimed the moon landing was fake. A popular fantasy had it that the government had hired the director Stanley Kubrick, fresh off his film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” to create mock footage on a secret set. In 2001, the Fox television network stoked doubts by airing the documentary “Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?” Famous skeptics have included the N.B.A. star Stephen Curry, who expressed his doubts in an interview last year.
NASA landed astronauts on the moon six times from 1969 to 1972. But interest had waned by the time the second team of astronauts stepped onto the lunar surface. The Times noted a “collective sense of anticlimax” at the time of the first encore mission.
There are signs that enthusiasm is building again. In 2017, a bidder paid $1.8 million for a sack of lunar dust filled by Armstrong. Last month, a signed photograph of the first man on the moon sold for $52,247.

Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969, at 8:32 AM Central Daylight Time (CDT) with the goal of performing the first human landing on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin entered lunar orbit on the afternoon of July 19. The following day, Armstrong and Aldrin begin their descent to the lunar surface in the Lunar Module, Eagle. The planned landing site in the Sea of Tranquility was selected as a flat, safe location and had been surveyed by Apollo 10 at an elevation of 10 miles above the Moon. However, a navigation error earlier in the mission caused Eagle to be about 7 kilometers beyond the planned landing location.
During the 12.6-minute-long powered descent, there were a total of five unexpected computer alarms. These alarms all indicated that Eagle’s computer system was overloaded, but in each case, Mission Control concluded that it was safe to continue the landing. The last of these alarms occurred less than three minutes before landing, when the crew was less than 500 meters above the surface. Because of the navigation error, the computer was guiding the spacecraft towards an unsafe touchdown point in the rugged, boulder-filled ejecta field surrounding West Crater. Armstrong took manual control and flew to a safe landing spot beyond the crater. At 3:17 PM CDT, he announced their safe landing, “Houston, Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed.” At the time of landing, Mission Control thought that the spacecraft had just 17 seconds of fuel left in the descent stage. However, post mission analysis showed that sloshing in the fuel tank during Armstrong’s search for a safe landing site caused the fuel gauge to give an inaccurate reading. Eagle actually had about 45 seconds of fuel left when it touched down.
After a checkout of Eagle’s systems, Armstrong and Aldrin prepared for their moonwalk. At 9:56 PM CDT, Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Aldrin followed a short while later. The duration of this first ever moonwalk was limited to just 2 hours and 31 minutes and the crew remained within 60 meters of Eagle. Armstrong and Aldrin collected 21.6 kilograms of samples and deployed a seismometer to measure moonquakes, a laser retroreflector to enable precise measurements of the distance between Earth and the Moon, and a device to collect a sample of the solar wind. They also performed ceremonial duties, including setting up a United States flag, unveiling a commemorative plaque on the lunar module, and having a brief conversation with President Richard Nixon.
During the moon landing, Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module, Columbia. After just 21.6 hours on the Moon, Eagle’s ascent stage returned to lunar orbit and rejoined Columbia. Altogether, Apollo 11 spent 2.5 days in lunar orbit, circling the Moon 31 times. The crew returned safely to Earth on July 24, landing in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Hawaii, after a flight of 8 days and 3 hours. Although scientists considered it unlikely that the Moon had life on it, the crew was kept in a biological quarantine for 21 days.
Post-mission analysis showed that the Apollo 11 samples consisted of two primary rock types. Basalt is formed by the solidification of molten magma. The Apollo 11 basalts formed 3.6 to 3.9 billion years ago and are unusually rich in the element titanium. Breccias are composed of fragments of other rocks. On the Moon, breccias formed from rocks that are broken up by impacting objects. Analysis of the lunar samples also confirmed that they were indeed lifeless and showed no evidence of water.

1. This mission puts you in control of three squads of Polish snipers. This is going to be two standard squads of two and the third one consisting of Ania. Ania is a sniper veteran. She is excellent at camouflage, even in motion and also shoots perfectly. She needs to survive the entire mission (2), so take care of her and sprint (N), or even retreat if necessary. All three squads can also set explosives, just like engineers and entrench themselves to create covers and disappear from the enemy’s sight. You need to kill three officers, with the first one to the North, not too far away. Apart from the officer himself, there is also a lot of infantry there, and that is what the main problem is. Before you eliminate the officer, you can set explosives on the way to your soldiers.
Bombs will effectively thin out the enemy squads
Shoot the commander and, when the Germans will dash out, blow up the bomb. The ones that survive, should be finished out with snipers hidden around. It would be god not to lose any one of the partisans, also if things do not go according to the plans, get back and repeat the action.
Key points will supply you with ammo
Seize the point to gain access to Munitions. Collect also the ammo in piles around the place. It is very important that you constantly have a lot of ammo on you to be able to use all of the abilities of the snipers. In this mission, there is no point in hurrying. Move slowly from cover to cover. If necessary, you can even make a longer stop to replenish your ammo. You should always have on you at least 30 units before attacking the enemy.
To the South of the captured point, there is a truck. Position Ania in the middle of the road and order her to set a cover (the screenshot). After some time, there will appear the enemy Opel Blitz. Take a shot at it to perform the bonus objective (2).
Fires will draw the attention of the nearby Germans
To the South of the truck there is a stack made for a campfire. Ania can set such stacks on fire to draw the attention of the nearby Germans. Deploy your snipers in the bushes and set the heap on fire. Wait for the nearby squad of engineers to appear and open fire at them, from all three squads. This will quickly deal with the enemy.
The radio relay will be well protected
From here, it is a good idea to go to the North to perform the bonus objective (3). Approach the radio tower slowly, best done with Ania, because there is an enemy sniper on the tower. Just like earlier, it is a good idea to deploy explosives around. Snipe the sniper then. The German soldiers will have grenades on them, which you should be careful about. If they happen to throw a grenade towards a lying sniper, do not hesitate even one second and get out of there. You can always return to that spot in a moment. Also, remember about the smoke grenades for covering your progression. Once you eliminate the nearby soldiers, set an explosive on the tower and destroy it. Also, collect the nearby ammo supplies.
Spread the enemy squads
Return to the South and go West towards the next officer. For the next time, there will be a lot of enemy infantry and a sniper. It will be best to divide the enemy units and make them chase you around the woods. Send Ania ahead and snipe the sniper. When the nearby infantry starts chasing her, run into the woods. Wait for a moment and return. The enemy squads should be divided, far away from each other so, it will be easier to take them out.
Shoot the second officer
There is nothing else left to do but to approach the officer’s house and shoot him. Then, seize the territory. It is the field hospital also, you can heal your soldiers here and supplement any losses.
The last point is the most troublesome one. Apart from the standard set of sniper +infantry, there are also two mortar teams there, as well as a transporter, which the officer can use to escape and thwart the entire plan. Approach from the South with Ania only, who disguises herself way better than the remaining snipers. The rest of the snipers should be retired towards the radio station, which you should approach from the East to prevent being spotted by a sniper or mortar team. Order them to mine the way to the HQ, the way shown in the above screenshot, and hide somewhere near. When you do that, shoot the sniper with Ania and, whenever necessary and possible, take out the mortar teams. The regular infantry should make it out into the road, which can be taken out with the remaining snipers and a bomb.
After you have destroyed the truck, finish out the officer
Control the officer’s, and the truck’s position at all times. Once he starts to flee, do not forget to activate the bomb at the right moment. As an alternative, you can use the same maneuver as with the Opel driver. After you destroy the truck, finish out the officer. Then, seize the point to complete the first objective.
Use Ania to remove mortar teams
3. From the South, German reinforcements will arrive. Set out to the North, towards the informer. Try to move around in hiding and stay away from roads, where German trucks will abound. Clearing the area where the informer is, is quite a standard procedure. Eliminate the heavy equipment teams in the first place. If necessary, get back, you can also use explosives to your aid but, not too much to have enough ammo to set several bombs in the near future.
After you secure the area, do not send Ania to the informer. First of all, mine both exit roads, as well as the area directly before the house, just like in the above screenshot. Then, hide the snipers in the nearby houses, and then approach the informer’s house with the girl.
Try to use the bombs against the German trucks
You will have to endure the Krauts’ attacks for two minutes. They will be trying to kill the informer. Do not use up bombs against infantry. Soon, enemy vehicles will appear on both roads and these are the ones you should be blowing up. You will also gain the ability of summoning another sniper squad, which you should do. After two minutes, Ania will leave the house with the informer. Another part of this mission will be completed.

4. Go towards the prison. Stick to the covers near the trees and try not to get involved in fights with the Germans, if you are not spotted. In front of the entrance to the camp, you will find another stack. Hide the snipers around and have Ania set the stack on fire, and chase the nosy Germans that decide to find out if someone is roasting sausages around.
After you get rid of the guards, do not forget to take a shot at the commanding officer, to prevent him from calling out for reinforcements. Then, set the explosives to the gate. The freed partisans can be enrolled, which will complete the bonus objective (1).
In the hospital, heal the wounded
5. Make your way to the last point quickly. You simply need to move quickly with your entire army. The enemy squads that you encounter can be quickly eliminated. On your way, you can visit the field hospital, if Ania, or any of the others, is wounded. It is close to the evacuation point from here. It will be guarded by several more soldiers. Kill them or simply pass them by sprinting.

Secret Mission 11 – Secret Missions – Walkthrough | Devil May Cry 5
Location¶
Once you reach the first Divinity Statue in Main Mission 15, you will find a slightly hidden path behind it. This will lead to a series of hills that you’re supposed to climb with the Punch Line’s Jet Gadget technique, although you can also get to the top with the Gerbera’s dodge maneuver. Once you reach the top, there should be a little alcove here that seems like it overlooks the area you just traversed. The red glow for the Secret Mission will be there.

Strategy¶
The Gerbera makes this Secret Mission a lot easier than without it. You have to get to the end within a certain time limit, which can be rather strict by doing the challenge normally. Start out by running forward and jumping on the lowest platform, then perform a wall jump to get on the lowest spot of the platform just above you. While you can go up the ramp here that looks like the way to go, ignore it and turn around to spy another ledge that’s easily accessible with a double jump. From here, it’s a simple jump to reach the path above you, where you will want to run through the tunnel to the next section.
By far, the next section is definitely the most annoying part of the Secret Mission, as you’re dealing with the collapsible platforms from an earlier mission. To begin, jump on the stable platform just ahead of you and while you think you’ll be getting on the first platform, you’re going to skip it. The reason for this is that the collapsing platforms are not in your favor, as they drop in an order that doesn’t benefit you. Instead, you’re aiming for the second platform on the right side. Double jump and use Gerbera to boost onto it, then quickly use the third platform before it collapses. From there, it should be one more double jump and Gerbera boost to the end.

5. Continue Forward – Tips
Get Red Orbs from Huge Orb Crystal
There is a huge hole to your left in area where you have to jump up some platforms. You’ll know you’re in the right area if Dante says a line about ruined cities. Go to the very bottom of the hole to find the large orb crystal.
7. Find Gold Orb Near Secret Mission Area
When you’ve destroyed the demon blood clot and opened up the way to the Secret Mission, check the floor below the Secret Mission area. The Gold Orb can be found floating in the air on the ceiling.
12. Destroy the Blood Clot – Tips
Platform with Blue Orb Fragment will Appear
After destroying the blood clot, a platform will appear right in front of you with a Blue Orb Fragment. Make sure to take the rare resource before leaving the area.

Enemies will Appear After Taking the Blue Orb
Upon taking the blue orb, you’ll be locked in the area until you defeat the 2 demons that will spawn there. They’re relatively easy to defeat as long as you position yourself where they won’t be able to double team you.
19. Go Through the Opened Pathway – Tips
The Purple Orb will Appear in the Path
Head through the opened pathway and you’ll immediately see the Purple Orb. Jump up to its platform to get it.

Hell Judecca Tips & Strategy
Defeat Demon Minions First
The fight will be relatively easier once you defeat the minions Hell Judecca has summoned. Focus on them first to take them out of the fight so you can deal with the Demon Horde Commander in peace.
Use Aerial Combos to Prevent Hell Judecca from Teleporting
Hell Judecca has the ability to teleport, but he can only do it when he’s on the ground. Juggle him with aerial combos to be able to deal continuous damage to him.
Move to the Side to Dodge Tentacle Blade Attack
You can easily dodge Hell Judecca’s tentacle blade attack by moving to the side. Take cue of his windup animation wherein he brings his arms behind him and immediately move to your side.

Even with his cape up, you can easily attack Cavaliere Angelo by targeting his exposed head. Jump up to be able to hit it with your melee attacks.
Stay Clear of Lightning Field
Cavaliere Angelo can call forth a huge dome of lightning! Jump back immediately when you see him raising his sword in the air because that’s the windup to the attack.

Devil May Cry 5: Mission 11 (Reason) Walkthrough)
Mission 11 of Devil May Cry 5 is called Reason and once again it involves Dante.
Your task is to finally get to the tower to face Urizen once again, after you lost the first time.
Here’s a walkthrough of Mission 11 (Reason) in DMC 5.
Story
After Dante wakes up, he now proceeds to go to the demon tower again to face Urizen, as Nero’s life is in danger.
Proceed forward
You will be playing as Dante again for this mission.
As you go forward you’ll see some demons waiting for you.
Keep going until there’s a dead end. Destroy this red blobs to get rid of the Qliphoth roots. It will bring down the building.
Now, climb up the platform.
More demons will spawn here.
Find your way to the other side
Now, enter the building.
Jump down to the lower floor.
You will see another red core here. Destroy it to get rid of the roots again.
Now, get to the new area and this time, you’ll see two of these red cores.
I destroyed one first.
This gave access to a new area, which led to a fragment of the blue crystal.
After grabbing the fragment, two Nobodies spawned. Kill both of them.
Now, get back to the other red core and destroy it.
You will then come across a new area.
Inside the building, you should find a new weapon when you see the “???” sign.
Turns out, it’s the Kalina Ann which is a missile launcher.
After that, go to the new area and you should find yourself out of that building.
Defeat Hell Judecca
There’ll be a new demon waiting for you, i.e. Hell Judecca.
This demon uses two blades and has really long “arms”. It shouldn’t be too difficult if you use the Devil Trigger.
Keep going forward
After the fight, there’ll be another area with more soldier demons. Kill all of them too.
The Hellbats show up again.
After defeating the demons, keep going forward and you’ll see a purple fragment high up here.
Grab the fragment and continue the journey.
This time, you’ll be walking downwards.
At the end of the road, you’ll reach another place to customize your equipment.
If you’re ready for the boss, proceed forward.
Defeat Cavaliere Angelo (boss fight)
You will now come across this huge space.
The boss of Mission 11 appears, i.e. Cavaliere Angelo.
This demon is bigger than yourself and uses a huge sword. He will use the sword to generate electric-based attacks.
Just run away whenever you see him charging his sword. You can also use the missile launcher to disrupt him.
This demon tends to run away a lot as well, especially after you’ve landed many strikes.
After defeating the demon, Trish will fall out from its body.
V then joins Dante but couldn’t keep up due to his weak body. He then tells Trish everything about who he really is.
And that’s it for Mission 11 of DMC 5.

On April 18, 2021, at the Dutch airport track in Enschede, Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon organized by the sports agency NN Running Team.The world record holder showed a result of 2:04:30.
About 70 elite runners took part in the race. Many of them were keen to meet the Olympic standard for a chance to participate in the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics, which is slated for August 2021.

The race could have taken place a week earlier, in Hamburg, but the situation with COVID-19 did not allow the event to be held in Germany. As a result, about a week before the start of the marathon, the organizers announced the postponement of the race for a week in advance to another country.
Before this start, Kipchoge had already guaranteed participation in the Olympics as part of the Kenya national team. He was faced with an equally important task – to regain leadership in the world marathon after the defeat in London, where Kipchoge became only eighth.
At the marathon in the Netherlands up to the 30th kilometer, Kipchoge ran along with other Kenyans – Jonathan Korir and Philemon Kacheran. They covered 30 km in 1:28:10. The last 10 km Kipchoge ran without the support of pacemakers. The second was Jonathan Korir – 2:06:40, the third – Goyt Kifle from Eritrea – 2:08:07. The top five was closed by the Olympic champion in the 2012 marathon, Ugandan Steven Kiprotich – 2:09:04.This is three seconds better than the Russian record.
In the women’s race, 10 people ran according to the Olympic standard. The entire podium was occupied by the representatives of Germany. Katharina Steinruck has the best result – 2:25:59.
