The product: FaceOff Cloth All-in-One Makeup Remover

The trend of the moment may be silicone makeup sponges, but this week, I’ve been testing out microfibre face cloths. I have the FaceOff Cloth (“Your All-in-One Makeup Remover”), which is one of the more budget-friendly versions of this product: one cloth will run you $12.95 CAD.

How microfibre makeup removers work

Just like in a regular cloth, each fibre in a microfibre cloth picks up particles of dirt, grime, and makeup, trapping them in the cloth. However, the fibres in microfibre cloths are, well, micro. They’re really bloody small, and the more fibers you have, the more surface area you’re working with – so the more thoroughly you can clean something in one swipe.

These particles are then supposed to wash out easily with hot water, which relaxes the fibers slightly and un-traps the dirt.  This is mostly true, but my cloth is definitely showing signs of staining.

How the FaceOff Cloth compares

I tested the FaceOff cloth against two other cloths, all with the same products – a mix of eyeliners, lip liners, and lipsticks. My first cloth tested was just a regular cotton washcloth (Cl). It did the worst job of the bunch, barely removing any product at all.

My second cloth was a microfibre with larger fibers (MF). I wanted to show the wide of variation between different cloths, so I went with a cheap cleaning microfibre. It did quite well, removing just as much makeup as the FaceOff Cloth, but with a little more friction needed.

Finally, the last set of swatches was removed by the FaceOff Cloth (FO). It removed almost all of the makeup, with the least friction necessary. However, it wasn’t perfect; pigment stains were still left on my skin, and you can see in the photos how irritated my skin was afterwards.

My thoughts on the FaceOff Cloth

The FaceOff Cloth worked a lot better than I expected it to, removing as much of my makeup as an oil-based makeup remover would. However, it’s still not something that I would purchase on my own – and for a very good reason.

I have sensitive skin, and even though the FaceOff Cloth feels very soft to the touch, it’s way too aggressive for my skin. In order to remove my makeup with it, I have to wipe pretty firmly, and it leaves my skin feeling really raw each time. It’s the worst in my eye area, where my skin is left bright red and tender to the touch until the next day.

This sensitivity makes sense, because a cloth can’t discern what’s makeup from what’s skin. Alongside all of the grime from the day, the FaceOff Cloth is removing all of my dead skin cells, and likely a few that aren’t quite ready to go yet, either.

The verdict?

As cool as removing my makeup with just a cloth is, I’m not a fan of the microfibre cleaning method. It’s even harsher on my skin than getting a chemical peel at a dermatologist’s office, and I shudder at the thought of doing that to my face every day. So, while the FaceOff Cloth does technically work, I wouldn’t recommend it. It would be way too easy to over-exfoliate your face with this cloth, which risks breaking down your skin’s natural lipid barrier and triggering the overproduction of sebum.

If you must try a microfibre face cloth, I’d recommend looking them up on Amazon, where you can get the same quality of product for half the price. And hey – order yours in black to hide the staining.

Removing Makeup With Only Water? | FaceOff Cloth Review

 
I’ll admit that I totally love wearing makeup every day to work. Though I am sometimes forced to throw it on during my 1-hour commute, nothing makes me feel more pulled together. When I get home, it all needs to come off, and I don’t have much patience when doing so.

Every night I rub one pump of the L’Occitane Immortelle Oil Makeup Remover onto my dry face, then I hop into the shower. Mascara, lipstick, liner, etc. all dissolves into the oil, then rinses off when warm water is introduced – no trace left behind. My system is easy enough, and extremely gentle on my sensitive skin. It is a bit of a pain to bring an oily product around when I’m travelling, but that’s when cleansing cloths (and Olay Daily Facials, mentioned here) come into play.

I received the FaceOff makeup cloth as a press sample at the beginning of August, and I began to use it right away. This microfibre cloth claims to remove all makeup with only warm water and no soap. I was thrilled to try it out since I’ve seen a ton of reviews on the hot pink “Makeup Eraser” cloth that is sold at Sephora (here) for $24.

How does it work?

The one gripe that I have with this cloth is the fact that you still need wash the FaceOff with soap after you’ve removed the makeup from your face. It’s not as gentle as my oil remover since there’s a decent amount of friction between your skin and the cloth, but the quality is really good and the FaceOff is softer than any other cloth I’ve tried – perfect for use even with your favourite face wash.

I think this is a really fun product that I’ll keep in my washroom to use when I need a quick fix and liquid remover isn’t at the ready. If you’re camping (#Glamping) or maybe packing a carry on bag with minimal liquids, I’d recommend packing the FaceOff and a gentle bar soap like Dr Bronner’s or the Dove Beauty Bar so that your FaceOff cloth is kept in sanitary condition, ready for your daily make-off needs.

Tip: Don’t forget a plastic bag for quick storage if you are travelling with your FaceOff.

FaceOff Cloth Review – spilledpolish

How do you wash your face? I usually use an eye makeup remover, then a face wash, and then toner. I have always seen ads and reviews online for face cloths that eliminate the need for all those products. I finally got the chance to try FaceOff – a natural, soft, reusable cleansing cloth that removes eye and face makeup using only warm water.

This product was sent to me in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was a bit skeptical about using this at first because I do wear makeup every day and was concerned how this would work against layers of mascara, sweat built up under my makeup, etc. I was really concerned because with the warmer weather, I am finding that my skin is breaking out more, so I’m trying to wash my face at least twice a day to combat all the dirt
and excess oil that builds up on my skin.

I went out on Sunday and had my makeup on for about 12 hours. I did apply more than usual because I went to a day party with some friends. I did my usual eye makeup routine (with 3 different mascara’s, so it was really layered!) and used foundation, concealer, blush, highlighter, etc. After a whole day outside in the sun and my skin getting sweaty and oily, I was really interested to see how well this cloth worked.

I wet the cloth with warm water and started to wipe my face. I did half my face so you guys can see the difference. From just looking at my skin, it looks like the cloth did a great job on my makeup, except for a bit of eye makeup. I used different parts of the cloth to get a “clean part” so I wouldn’t be wiping the makeup all over my face. I felt like I really had to apply pressure to my eyes to remove the makeup – which was a bit unsettling because I didn’t want to take any eyelashes out. When I was done, my face looked clean, but it definitely did not feel like it. It felt tight and I could definitely feel leftover makeup around my eyes.

I went over each eye with a cotton pad and eye makeup remover to see how much was left on my eyes. I did have quite a bit of mascara and eyeliner left, which might only be because I use a lot of mascara and I didn’t keep wiping off until it was all gone. I would have kept wiping, but it was getting painful to keep wiping my skin around my eyes and I felt I was just wiping the makeup around my face instead of off my face.

I then went over my face with a cotton pad and toner (which I usually do after washing my face to ensure all my makeup is off and I can really get my skin clean. It surprisingly didn’t have a lot of makeup on it, which was great because this cloth didn’t work so well on my eye makeup.

I washed the cloth thoroughly with soap and water after I was done and let  it hang to dry. I did have some makeup stains left on it, but I think if I throw this in my washing machine I could get better results.

I always love trying new products, so this was a neat one. I won’t be changing my face wash routine or replace this with any products, but I do feel like this will be handy if I ever go away for a night or am too lazy to actually wash my face.

FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth / Reflection of Sanity

Today’s product might not be new to a majority of you; well at least the concept is not new. Right before I left for my vacation, I received FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth* and needless to say, I took it with me because…why the hell not? If some of you are wondering what on earth am I babbling about then no worries, I got you covered as always.

“FaceOff Cloth is a natural, soft, reusable cleansing cloth made of unique weave of ultra-thin microfibres that is designed to remove all traces of makeup even mascara using only warm water. It delicately exfoliates and cleanses the skin and suitable for all skin types. If you’re wondering how gentle it is then rest assured it’s safe and gentle enough even for babies. It is also free of all detergents and chemicals.” 

To use is surprisingly and suspiciously easy; just wet the cloth with warm water and wipe your face clean. I say suspiciously easy because…how is that even possible? My usual makeup removal routine is micellar water or oil cleanser (sometimes both) and finally using a cleanser with my old trusty Olay Pro-X. 

So does it really work? See below.

This works so freaking well. I had no problem removing all my makeup and yes, it removes mascara without any problems! There was no tugging or rubbing my eyes, just place the warm wet cloth on my eyes, let it sit for a couple of seconds and gently wipe away all my eye makeup, liquid eyeliner and mascara included. I even wiped my face with a micellar water soaked cotton pad and nothing showed up on it.  Unbelievable!

I don’t only use this to remove makeup, I actually love using it to rinse my face in the morning after milk cleanser. I find this cloth to be so much softer and gentler than a muslin cloth. It’s like a treat and a pampering session every time I wash my face.

If you are worried that this cloth needs extra care then rest assured that cleaning and caring for it is just as easy as using it. I wash it with a baby shampoo every time after I use it and leave it to dry. I also machine wash it (yes, you can wash it in the washing machine!) once or twice a week but without softener or bleach. We don’t use any in the house anyway so that’s easy. 

Will I continue to use this? You bet I will! It’s suggested to change the cloth every 3-4 months so at $12.95 per cloth, I am basically paying for almost nothing for so many months use. Major love and FaceOff has a new fan in me!

FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth – When I’m Older

If there’s one thing I hate doing at the end of a long day, it’s taking off my makeup. All I ever want to do is sleep, but I know I’ll hate myself in the morning if I don’t wash my face. Makeup wipes always seem like the perfect solution, but they do such a horrible job at actually removing my makeup. So, when I heard of this FaceOff makeup remover cloth, I figured it might just be the next best thing!

The FaceOff cloth is an all-natural, soft and reusable face cloth that is made of a unique weave of ultra thin microfibers. These microfibers gently lift off dirt, impurities and even makeup. And best of all? You don’t need any cleansers or makeup removers; you just need this cloth dampened with warm water. I know what y’all are thinking right now- how can this cloth remove all my makeup with just water? I was extremely skeptical at first, but when I went to wipe my face with this cloth, sure enough, my makeup just slid right off!

Let’s talk about all the positives first. I have extremely sensitive skin. On top of that, I have acne prone skin, so I have to be extremely careful about what I use on my skin. I need the gentlest products. And this FaceOff cloth is definitely gentle. It feels so soft on my skin and doesn’t tug, not even on my eyelashes! In addition, because of the tightly woven microfibers, the cloth also gently exfoliates my skin to keep it looking radiant and refreshed!

But with all the good, comes the bad. Is that even a phrase? I don’t think so. Anyways, I’d like to think this cloth removes allthe makeup. I would have loved to report back and say that every trace of makeup was vanished from my face. But that just isn’t the case unfortunately. But don’t get me wrong!! The FaceOff cloth removed waymore makeup than a traditional makeup wipe. It took off a great deal of my foundation and waterproof makeup. However, it still did leave some behind, so I felt the need to wash my face with a cleanser afterwards. I mean, I do wear quite a bit more makeup than the average person #cakeface (I’m just kidding, it’s the life of a Beauty Expert), so if you tend to go a little bit lighter on your makeup, this might be the perfect product for you! The FaceOff Cloth truly means business you may be skeptical at first but I fell in love after the first use. It arrived on a day where of course I have a face full of makeup on and it had to all come off. I was so excited I got to use a new product the same day it arrived. I followed the instructions just wetting it in warm water and massaging and wiping it over my face. I personally always start with my eye makeup up and this FaceOff  Cloth took it all off, from  the eyeshadow to the mascara and eyeliner with not issues. Then my foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer and contour just melted away even better than with disposable wipes which I would be on my 3rd or 4th one by that time. An Easy Effective Way to Remove My Makeup – Never Say Die Beauty

Although I am a big fan of micellar water for removing my makeup, over the past few weeks I’ve noticed that I’m not getting all of my makeup off – especially my foundation – with micellar water on a cotton pad. I’ve been a little surprised at how much more comes off with toner after cleansing. I’ve even noticed foundation stains on the facecloth that I use over the little heating pads I use at night to treat my dry eye. Hmm. And I thought my double cleanse method was so effective. Guess not.

FaceOff is an all-natural, very soft, reusable, microfiber face cloth that removes makeup without chemicals or detergents.

I just wet the FaceOff and use as I would a normal face cloth, and my makeup comes off without a lot of tugging.

I have used a couple of other similar products, but FaceOff gets the job done the best of any microfiber cleansing cloth I’ve tried. In fact, it removed all of my makeup, unlike micellar water followed by my cleanser. I was more than impressed with the results!

As Earth Day approaches, I’m glad that I have FaceOff because it is so environmentally-friendly! Glad to know I’m keeping at least a few cotton pads (that do decompose over time) out of the landfill.

We’ve learned the rule of thumb to use SPF creams, but what about clothing that can add extra protection? We tell you what it is and who can be useful.

How does “sun protection” work?

The term “sunscreen” was first coined in 1996 when Australian companies, concerned about the continent’s high incidence of skin cancer, began developing specialized clothing with an additional layer of UPF filters.Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it must protect against ultraviolet A and B rays (unlike conventional cosmetic sunscreens, which resist only UVB radiation), minimizing their negative effect on the skin. The level of UPF protection of such garments usually ranges from 15 to 50 – often this is achieved by treating the fabric with a special chemical composition (for example, titanium dioxide) or a dye with an ultraviolet block, which helps to absorb or reflect solar radiation. In addition, there are various additives for washing – powders, gels – that promise to turn any wardrobe item into sun-protection clothing, giving it an additional UPF level.

Who needs it?

By and large, everyone. Even if you are not prone to allergic reactions to the sun and are not planning a vacation near the equator, additional protection of your skin from harmful radiation will not hurt. But for most of us, ordinary clothes are enough, but specialized, with a UPF factor, is intended rather for people with increased skin sensitivity and for those who have to be in extreme conditions for a long time under the scorching sun.In addition, many experts urge children to choose clothes equipped with additional UPF protection – the reasons for this are obvious.

Doesn’t ordinary clothes fit?

As already mentioned, most people really do not think about clothes with special UPF filters, limiting themselves to ordinary Sanskrins and basic principles like “cover your shoulders on the beach. “For example, a typical cotton T-shirt has a UPF rating of 5-8 on average, which means it transmits about one-fifth of the UV rays. By the way, one more important point – when wet, almost all fabrics lose their UPF properties by an average of 50% (with the exception of silk and viscose, here the situation is reversed). The color of the thing also plays a role – clothes in dark shades absorb UV radiation more efficiently, the same applies to bright, saturated colors in comparison, for example, with pastel colors.And finally, the most obvious: the larger the area of ​​\ u200b \ u200bthe body is covered by clothes, the higher the degree of protection, therefore, an ideal option for walking under the scorching sun would be, say, a suit made of a tunic with long sleeves and loose-fitting trousers. What is DWR?

DWR is a special coating on the fabric that provides additional water repellency to the garment. This coating is applied after the application of other technologies or membranes and is the topmost layer that protects against moisture.

DWR treatment does not make the fabric completely waterproof, but only reduces the amount of moisture penetrating into the product.

How is down filling measured?

Filling intensity is measured by placing one ounce of fluff in a special cylinder and measuring the volume that the fluff occupies in cubic inches. The higher the filling density and the longer the feathers, the more space such fluff will take in the cylinder. This means that a smaller amount of such fluff is needed in order to provide good thermal insulation properties to the product.

The fluff that takes up more volume, all other things being equal, is usually less in weight.

Potassium Iodide (KI)

Do not take potassium iodide (KI) or give it to others unless specifically advised by the health department, emergency responders, or your doctor.

KI is prescribed only in cases of release of radioactive iodine into the environment and protects only the thyroid gland.KI works by filling a person’s thyroid gland with stable iodine, while the harmful radioactive iodine is not absorbed from the release, thereby reducing the risk of developing thyroid cancer in the future.

What is Potassium Iodide?

KI (potassium iodide) does not keep radioactive iodine from entering the body and is unable to eliminate the health effects caused by radioactive iodine when the thyroid gland is damaged.

KI (potassium iodide) protects only the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine, but not other parts of the body.

KI (potassium iodide) is not able to protect the body from other radioactive elements besides radioactive iodine — in the absence of radioactive iodine, taking KI does not provide protection and can be harmful.

Table salt and iodine-rich foods do not contain enough iodine to prevent radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid gland. Do not use table salt or food as a substitute for KI.

How does KI (potassium iodide) work?

The thyroid gland is unable to distinguish between stable and radioactive iodine. It absorbs both types of iodine.

KI (potassium iodide) prevents radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid gland. When a person takes KI, the stable iodine in the drug is absorbed by the thyroid gland. Since KI contains so much stable iodine, the thyroid gland becomes “overfilled” and can no longer absorb iodine — neither stable nor radioactive — for the next 24 hours.

KI (potassium iodide) cannot provide 100% protection against radioactive iodine. Security will increase depending on three factors.

• Time after radioactive contamination: The sooner a person takes KI, the more time it will take for the thyroid gland to “refuel” with stable iodine.

How often should I take KI (Potassium Iodide)?

Taking a higher dose of KI (potassium iodide) or taking KI more often than recommended does not provide more protection and can cause serious illness or death.

A single dose of KI (potassium iodide) protects the thyroid gland for 24 hours. To protect the thyroid gland, as a rule, a single dose in the prescribed size is sufficient.

In some cases, people may be exposed to radioactive iodine for more than a day.If this happens, health or rescue officials may recommend that you take one dose of KI (potassium iodide) every 24 hours for several days.

What are the side effects of KI (potassium iodide)?

Side effects of KI (potassium iodide) may include stomach or gastrointestinal upset, allergic reactions, rashes, and inflammation of the salivary glands.

When taken as recommended by KI (Potassium Iodide), may occasionally cause harmful effects on thyroid-related health.

These rare side effects are more likely if the person:

• takes a dose of KI higher than the recommended dose
• takes the drug for several days in a row
• already has thyroid disease

Newborn babies (under 1 month of age) who receive more than one dose of KI (potassium iodide) are at risk of developing a condition known as hypothyroidism (too low thyroid hormone levels). if left untreated, hypothyroidism can damage the brain.

• Babies receiving more than one dose of KI should have their thyroid hormone levels checked and supervised by a doctor.
• Avoid re-administering KI to neonates.

This interested me, and I decided to figure out what kind of light quick-drying fabrics are from well-known manufacturers, how they differ and what are good.It was based on the brands presented in the assortment of one of the largest chains in Russia – the Kant company.

By the way, I was wearing a shirt from the Italian brand Salewa and trousers from the American brand The North Face.

Quick-drying clothing has become quite common these days, but it is a fairly new invention. Before the advent of man-made materials such as polyester and nylon, there were no quick-drying fabrics for travel. The only good outfit was clothing that kept you warm, such as wool.

The demand for quick-drying fabrics emerged during the tourism boom of the 70s, when more and more people began to go hiking.Until now, there is no single standard that determines whether a material is really fast drying or not.

Quick dry clothes (if we are talking about quality clothes) are quite expensive, so what are we paying for? The answer is simple – for your safety. Because quick-drying fabrics do a very important thing – they wick moisture away from the skin and maintain the temperature balance necessary for comfort, thanks to quick drying. We lose quite a bit of heat from the body through the air (about 2%), but we lose almost 20 times more heat in water.And accordingly, we quickly freeze in wet clothes, even in not particularly cold weather. By the way, this is why hypothermia occurs so quickly in the ocean. When you are on a multi-day hike, the temperature drops sharply at night, or at altitude, wet clothes can be deadly. The faster your clothes wick moisture away from your skin, the warmer you will feel.

Among other things, wet clothes are very uncomfortable. Moisture increases friction between the fabric and skin, which can lead to blisters (for example, with wet socks) and breakouts (for example, when wearing wet trousers).Quick-drying clothing can prevent all of this by keeping clothing and body dry. Wet clothing is also heavy clothing. Every extra gram of weight that you carry with you on a hike makes the hike much more energy-consuming and more difficult.

How fast drying materials work

I know this sounds pretty boring, but in order to understand how quick dry clothes work, I have to explain how the material they are made of works. Don’t worry, it will take very little time.

All clothes are made from fabrics, which in turn are made from various types of fibers. Some fabrics are thick, others are loose. Some fabrics are thicker than others. The more fibers a garment has, and the thicker those fibers, the more surface area to absorb moisture. The more moisture the material absorbs, the longer it dries. A thick cotton shirt is practically a large sponge with sleeves. A shirt made of a mixture of artificial materials practically does not absorb moisture due to the properties of polyester, and accordingly dries quickly.Clothes made from thick and heavy fabrics tend to take longer to dry than thin fabrics. But dense fabric keeps warmth better than clothes made of thin and light fabric. In principle, more heat = slower drying time. However, modern fast-drying fabrics made from high-tech blends that retain heat without trapping moisture are increasingly challenging this rule.

The most common quick-drying materials in modern tourist clothing

Polyester

Polyester is the most commonly and widely used synthetic fabric, and it is especially good for quick-drying travel garments because it is extremely hydrophobic.This means that polyester fibers do not absorb much water. The amount of water they absorb varies depending on the difference in the combination of fibers, but usually polyester fabric only absorbs about 0.4% of its own weight and thus dries very quickly. Polyester fibers are also quite strong and therefore polyester can be knitted into very thin fabrics and mixes easily with all other fibers. The threads themselves can be woven into fabrics of various thicknesses, providing both thermal insulation and windproof properties of the material.It is also very affordable and can be reused after special processing. The most common plastic on Earth, polyethylene, is made from artificial material, while its closest relative, cellophane, is made from natural material. Polyethylene is obtained by chemical synthesis of gaseous ethylene hydrocarbon, and cellophane is obtained by processing cellulose, the raw material for which is wood.

Nylon

Nylon is more than just a stretch neon fabric from the 80s. This hydrophobic wonder fiber is more durable than polyester and absorbs roughly the same amount of moisture. Look for nylon in trekking clothing (needs more than 4% to get the “stretch” signature). This material provides tensile strength, and, accordingly, the product will last you longer, as well as provide good stretching properties to the material, which in turn will provide an excellent fit, and therefore comfort for you throughout the trip.

Merino Wool

Merino wool is cozy, warm, lightweight and resistant to odors. The disadvantage is that merino wool absorbs up to 33% of its own weight of moisture. Pure merino wool is not a quick-drying fabric, but it is an amazing material thanks to its incredibly small grain width. Merino wool is thinner than human hair, and only the inside of each merino hair absorbs moisture, while the outside (the part that touches your skin) remains warm and cozy.This is why merino keeps warm so well – even when wet. In addition, it is very rare to see 100% merino in anything except, perhaps, sweaters. The whole point of wearing quick-drying fabric on a hike is to wick moisture away from your skin to keep it warm, and merino does that best. Look for a blend of polyester and merino wool and you will have quick-dry clothing that incorporates the very best in travel clothing.

Cotton

Hardcore tourists avoid cotton like the plague, not because it is a bad fabric, but because cotton dries for a very long time and becomes heavy and uncomfortable to use when wet.Some studies claim that cotton absorbs 25 times more moisture than its own weight. In any case, there are now excellent offers of various artificial quick-drying lightweight fabrics, and it is better to give preference to them.

If you wash your clothes and hang them overnight, most fabrics will dry out and be wearable. But if your clothes are a little damp in the morning, wear them anyway. Your body is the best dryer when traveling. More than half of the food you eat goes towards maintaining body temperatures, so use it.Your body heats up faster and more efficiently than you think.
