What are the best Boys Under Armour boxers. How do they compare to other brands. What features make them stand out. Where can you find the best deals on Boys Under Armour underwear. How to choose the right size and style for your child.
The Rise of Under Armour in Boys’ Underwear Market
Under Armour has become a household name in the world of sports apparel, and their venture into boys’ underwear has been nothing short of impressive. The brand’s commitment to quality, comfort, and performance has made their boxers a top choice for parents and young athletes alike.
Why has Under Armour gained such popularity in this niche? The answer lies in their innovative approach to design and materials. By applying the same technology used in their sports gear to underwear, they’ve created a product that stands out from traditional options.
Key Features of Boys Under Armour Boxers
- Moisture-wicking fabric
- Anti-odor technology
- Breathable mesh panels
- Flexible waistband
- Ergonomic design for active wear
These features ensure that boys stay comfortable and dry throughout the day, whether they’re in school or playing sports.
Comparing Under Armour to Other Popular Brands
How do Boys Under Armour boxers stack up against other well-known brands? Let’s take a closer look at the competition:
- Nike: Known for their Dri-FIT technology, Nike offers similar moisture-wicking properties but may lack the anti-odor features of Under Armour.
- Adidas: Provides comfort and style but may not have the same level of performance-oriented design as Under Armour.
- Hanes: A budget-friendly option that offers comfort but may not provide the same level of moisture management.
- Calvin Klein: Focuses on style and comfort but may not cater specifically to athletic performance like Under Armour does.
While each brand has its strengths, Under Armour’s focus on performance and comfort for active boys gives it a unique edge in the market.
Choosing the Right Size and Style for Your Boy
Selecting the perfect pair of Under Armour boxers for your child involves more than just picking a cool design. Size and style play crucial roles in ensuring comfort and functionality.
Size Guide
Under Armour provides a comprehensive size chart based on waist measurements:
- XS (7): 22-23 inches
- S (8): 23-24 inches
- M (10): 24-25 inches
- L (12): 25-27 inches
- XL (14): 27-29 inches
To ensure the best fit, measure your child’s waist and consult this chart before making a purchase.
Style Options
Under Armour offers various styles to suit different preferences and activities:
- Boxer briefs: Offer full coverage and support
- Boxers: Provide a looser fit for casual wear
- Briefs: Ideal for sports requiring maximum mobility
- Compression shorts: Perfect for high-intensity activities
Consider your child’s daily activities and personal comfort when choosing a style.
The Technology Behind Under Armour’s Comfort
What makes Boys Under Armour boxers so comfortable? The secret lies in the advanced technology incorporated into every pair:
HeatGear Fabric
This innovative material is designed to wick sweat away from the body, keeping boys cool and dry even during intense physical activity. The lightweight nature of HeatGear also ensures breathability and unrestricted movement.
4-Way Stretch Construction
The fabric’s ability to stretch in multiple directions allows for a full range of motion, making these boxers ideal for sports and everyday wear alike.
Anti-Odor Technology
Under Armour’s proprietary anti-odor technology prevents the growth of odor-causing microbes, keeping the underwear fresh even after a long day of wear.
These technological advancements set Under Armour apart from traditional cotton underwear, providing superior comfort and performance.
The Impact of Proper Underwear on Boys’ Athletic Performance
Can the right pair of boxers really make a difference in a young athlete’s performance? The answer is a resounding yes. Proper underwear plays a crucial role in comfort, support, and overall athletic ability.
Moisture Management
Under Armour’s moisture-wicking technology helps regulate body temperature during physical activity. By keeping sweat away from the skin, it prevents chafing and discomfort that can distract from performance.
Flexibility and Support
The stretchy fabric and ergonomic design of Under Armour boxers provide the perfect balance of support and flexibility. This allows young athletes to move freely without restriction, potentially improving their range of motion and overall performance.
Confidence Boost
When a young athlete feels comfortable and supported, it can lead to increased confidence on the field or court. This psychological advantage shouldn’t be underestimated in sports performance.
By investing in quality underwear like Boys Under Armour boxers, parents can give their young athletes a subtle but significant edge in their sporting endeavors.
Caring for Your Boys Under Armour Boxers
To ensure the longevity and performance of Boys Under Armour boxers, proper care is essential. Here are some tips to keep them in top condition:
- Machine wash in cold water to preserve the fabric’s integrity
- Avoid using fabric softeners, which can clog the moisture-wicking fibers
- Tumble dry on low heat or air dry to prevent shrinkage
- Wash dark colors separately to prevent color bleeding
- Replace boxers every 6-12 months for optimal performance
By following these care instructions, you can extend the life of your Under Armour boxers and maintain their performance-enhancing properties.
Where to Find the Best Deals on Boys Under Armour Boxers
While Under Armour boxers offer excellent value for their quality, savvy shoppers can find ways to save on these premium products. Here are some strategies for finding the best deals:
Online Retailers
Websites like Amazon, Zappos, and Dick’s Sporting Goods often offer competitive prices and frequent sales on Under Armour products. Sign up for their newsletters to stay informed about upcoming promotions.
Under Armour Outlet Stores
If you have an Under Armour outlet near you, it’s worth checking out. These stores frequently offer discounted prices on last season’s styles or overstocked items.
Seasonal Sales
Keep an eye out for major shopping events like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and back-to-school sales. These are prime times to stock up on Boys Under Armour boxers at discounted prices.
Bulk Purchases
Many retailers offer discounts when you buy multiple pairs. This can be a great way to save money if you’re outfitting a growing boy or multiple children.
Remember, while it’s tempting to always go for the lowest price, ensure you’re purchasing from reputable sellers to avoid counterfeit products.
The Environmental Impact of Under Armour’s Production
As consumers become more environmentally conscious, it’s worth considering the sustainability practices of brands like Under Armour. How does the company approach environmental responsibility in its production of boys’ boxers?
Sustainable Materials
Under Armour has been making strides in incorporating recycled materials into their products. Some of their boxer lines now include fabric made from recycled plastic bottles, reducing waste and environmental impact.
Eco-Friendly Manufacturing
The company has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by implementing more efficient manufacturing processes and using renewable energy sources in its facilities.
Durability for Reduced Waste
By producing high-quality, durable boxers, Under Armour indirectly contributes to waste reduction. Longer-lasting underwear means less frequent replacements and fewer items ending up in landfills.
While there’s always room for improvement, Under Armour’s efforts in sustainability show a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of their products, including boys’ boxers.
The Psychology of Comfort: How Quality Underwear Affects Boys’ Confidence
The impact of comfortable, well-fitting underwear on a boy’s confidence and self-esteem shouldn’t be underestimated. How do Boys Under Armour boxers contribute to this psychological aspect?
Body Image and Comfort
When boys feel comfortable in their underwear, it can positively affect their body image. Under Armour’s focus on fit and comfort helps boys feel more at ease in their own skin.
Performance Anxiety Reduction
For young athletes, knowing they’re wearing high-performance underwear can reduce anxiety about sweating or discomfort during sports activities. This mental ease can translate into improved performance and enjoyment of physical activities.
Brand Association
The Under Armour brand is associated with professional athletes and high performance. Wearing this brand can give boys a sense of connection to their sports heroes, boosting their confidence.
By providing comfortable, stylish, and performance-oriented boxers, Under Armour contributes to boys’ overall well-being, extending beyond just physical comfort to emotional and psychological comfort as well.
The Future of Boys’ Underwear: Innovations on the Horizon
As technology continues to advance, what can we expect in the future of boys’ underwear, particularly from innovative brands like Under Armour?
Smart Fabrics
The integration of technology into clothing is an emerging trend. Future Under Armour boxers might include smart fabrics that can monitor body temperature, hydration levels, or even track physical activity.
Customization
3D printing and advanced manufacturing techniques could lead to more personalized fits. We might see Under Armour offering custom-sized boxers based on individual body scans.
Enhanced Eco-Friendly Materials
As sustainability becomes increasingly important, expect to see more eco-friendly materials being used. This could include boxers made from plant-based fabrics or materials that are fully biodegradable.
Adaptive Designs
Future designs might adapt to different activities or weather conditions, providing optimal comfort and performance in various situations.
While these innovations are speculative, they represent the potential direction of boys’ underwear development. Under Armour’s track record of innovation suggests they’ll be at the forefront of these advancements.
As we look to the future of boys’ underwear, it’s clear that comfort, performance, and sustainability will continue to be key factors. Under Armour’s commitment to innovation positions them well to meet these evolving needs, ensuring that boys can continue to benefit from high-quality, comfortable, and functional underwear for years to come.

90,000 The Golden Boy is tired of his pension – Sport – Kommersant
One of the most successful and popular fighters in boxing history, Oscar De La Hoya, has announced that he is returning to the ring. De La Hoye, who won championship titles in six different weight categories, is already 47 years old, and he has not fought since 2008, all this time he has been quite successfully engaged in the promotion business. Nevertheless, the American believes that he has a chance, due to the correct attitude to boxing, to compete with much younger opponents.
The loudest news in professional boxing this week was the news that legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya decided to resume his career. In an interview with ESPN, he said that “in the coming weeks will start sparring” and “really missed the sport.”
This announcement was extraordinary for two reasons. First: the insane popularity of Oscar De La Hoya, known by the nickname “Golden Boy”. Olympic champion in 1992, he very quickly, in the 12th fight, won the first professional title, and then made a brilliant career.De La Hoya won championship belts in six weight categories, from light to medium (up to 72.6 kg), and fought many outstanding opponents such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga, Bernard Hopkins , Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao. In 2014, he was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame. At the same time, at one time, De La Hoya was not equal in terms of demand from the public.
Pay-per-view sales of Oscar De La Hoya’s duels generated a total of approximately $ 700 million. This figure remained a record for some time, and only Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao managed to break the bar.

The second reason is that De La Hoya is already 47 years old, and he fought his last fight a long time ago – when in December 2008 he lost ahead of schedule to Pacquiao, who was clearly superior to his opponent. Since then, Oscar De La Hoya has been talked about exclusively in the context of the boxing business. His company Golden Boy Promotions has become one of the leaders of the promotional business.
Shortly before Oscar De La Hoya, retired heavy and light heavyweight legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones also announced that they would face each other in the ring in November. However, De La Hoya emphasized that his case is fundamentally different from this. Tyson and Jones will have an “exhibition” one-off match. As for De La Hoya, he assures that we are talking about a full-fledged career renewal and “real battles.”
Who exactly the American is going to cross with, he did not specify, saying only that these would be “top fighters” and that he plans to compete either in the first average (up to 69.9 kg) or in the middle weight
Oscar De La Hoya is quite explained in detail and why he is convinced that at his age, despite the long break, he will be competitive. According to him, modern boxers cannot fight “at the level at which boxers fought 15-20 years ago,” because they are “concerned about money” and “have forgotten what it means to train at full strength.”De La Hoya knows how to “prepare smartly and conduct fights smartly.”

17 actors who were bullied at school. Who’s cooler now? – Popcorn
There is a theory that the more trials a teenager faces, the more purposeful and successful he will become when he grows up. And while the stars of the class remain at the foot of the ladder of success, the former idiots and losers are rapidly climbing up, seeking recognition and fame.
In the face of many famous actors, we can find confirmation that it is impossible to hammer real talent in a person. These people can become an example for each of us how important it is to have fortitude and faith in yourself.
Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron’s misfortunes began with a tragedy in the family. Defending herself from an alcoholic father, her mother was forced to shoot a brawler. And although the court recognized that it was self-defense, at school the girl was branded as “the daughter of a criminal.” The worst thing was that not only students, but also teachers took part in the persecution. Fortunately, the mother found out about what was happening in time and took Charlize out of this terrible institution.
Tom Felton

When Tom Felton first played the evil boy Draco Malfoy, he was 13 years old, and he was completely unprepared for the fact that the audience would transfer hatred of his character to him. After filming the first part of “Harry Potter”, he returned to school

and there he could no longer wave a magic wand and turn the offenders into slugs. I had to get out in the proven way of all the boys of the planet: beat the offenders right and left.
Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise Frame: TitrCollage
Tom Cruise has suffered from dyslexia since childhood, a disease that prevents a person from mastering reading and writing. It is not hard to guess that the cruel schoolchildren considered it their duty to mock the “mentally retarded,” as they called him. However, Tom, although he suffered from injustice, handed out the change with a generous hand. That’s why Tom had changed schools 14 times by the time he graduated.
Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock frame: TitrCollage
The family of Sandra Bullock did not have enough money for fashionable clothes, but the future actress was already a real beauty. This became a real curse for the girl: local women of fashion were so jealous of her that Sandra was even afraid to go to school. Yet one day she was severely beaten. But many years later, the actress says that although she remembers the names of all her offenders, she does not hold a grudge against them, because thanks to them she learned to overcome her fear.
Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson Frame: TitrCollage
Robert Pattinson has not always been the favorite of all the girls on the planet. At school, he was a rather nasty and mischievous boy, and he admits this himself: “I acted as if I had a black belt in karate. was a real bastard, and then, of course, it seemed to me that I was being hounded for no reason! ”
Megan Fox

Megan Fox was pretty already in her school years and enjoyed great success with boys.Of course, the rivals could not stand it. Therefore, poor Megan often had to pull the chewing gum out of her hair.
Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga at the time, when her name was Stephanie, was already distinguished by her eccentricity and love to arrange bright performances at school. The audience was delighted, but classmates could not come to terms with the fact that they were far from her talent. It ended with Stephanie begging her father to transfer her to a private school to protect herself from the constant attacks of her peers.
Christian Bale

Fame came to Christian Bale after the film “Empire of the Sun”, but she scared the boy, and for a while he left the cinema, not suspecting that a harder test awaits him ahead. The sons of the new neighbors greatly disliked the talented teenager and did not give him a pass.”They kicked me and beat me with sticks, but I still could not muster up the courage and give them back. I wonder if they now understand that they hurt Batman himself?”

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart began her acting career at an early age, and envious classmates did not miss an opportunity to spoil her pleasure from fame. The girls spread dirty gossip about her, and the guys harassed her to brag about her “relationship with a movie star.” That’s why Kristen decided to graduate from school remotely.
Zac Efron
Zac Efron Frame: TitrCollage
Zac Efron, surprisingly now, was the victim of ridicule at school because of his unattractive appearance. As luck would have it, he was in love with the first beauty of the class, and the nasty girl tortured him as best she could.Well, it would be curious to see how she now bites her elbows.

Jennifer Lawrence was timid and shy, which the daring girls used with success. Once they even made Jennifer hand out birthday invitations to the guys, to which she herself

Jackie Chan

Believe it or not, Jackie Chan hasn’t always been a formidable martial arts star. At school, he was a harmless and weak boy, and his classmates did not miss an opportunity to torment him.
Justin Timberlake

The entire class of Justin Timberlake was on the school football team, and even then he preferred music and art and was severely beaten more than once for his difference from his peers.
Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder Frame: TitrCollage
Winona Ryder had only one enemy at school, but the worst one. A stronger and more agile girl named Marge constantly practiced kicks on the weak Winona, and when the future star first dared to fight back, she was expelled from school. After 10 years, Winona and Marge met by chance on the street, and Marge… asked for an autograph without recognizing her former victim. Winona replied with dignity: “Do you remember the girl from the 7th grade? It was me. So go to hell!”
Angelina Jolie

There was also a transitional period in the life of the beautiful Angelina Jolie. As a teenager, her long legs, wide shoulders and plump lips gave her a slightly awkward look, and her peers tried to mock her, which almost drove the girl to suicide. But today the whole world is going crazy for her figure and seductive mouth.

Evening talk: buhurts, lists and titanium armor
How popular is the Knyazhy Dvor historical reenactors festival? Where can you find the most reliable information about Ancient Russia today? Why do people participate in massive tournaments (buhurts)? And how difficult is it to recreate knightly armor and ladies’ outfits of those times? On August 22, guests of the Evening Conversation program – the deputy director of the Vityaz youth center Galina Bestuzheva and the reenactor Anastasia Pankova – spoke about this and many other things on the Gorodskaya Volna radio (101.4 FM).
Ivan Konobeev
16:15, 26 August 2019
Ivan Konobeev: Good evening! Ivan Konobeev in the studio. Today [August 22] we will talk about a notable entertainment and tourist event – the Knyazhy Dvor festival. Reenactors, lovers of historical medieval combat meet there. And our guest today is the deputy director of the Vityaz Youth Center Galina Bestuzheva. Galina is responsible for organizing this festival: from the site to the content.
Galina Bestuzheva: Our entire center is working for this festival.
Ivan Konobeev: Yes, you are one of the organizers.
Galina Bestuzheva : I am not the only organizer. I am a representative of an institution that is doing this festival on a large scale. We are doing not only this festival. “Knyazhy Dvor” is already the fifth anniversary festival. This is the milestone at which the results are summed up. And I wanted to make this festival brighter, more festive and eventful.
Ivan Konobeev : Our second guest is Anastasia Pankova. She is a reenactor.
Are these events at the city, regional or Russian level?
Galina Bestuzheva : I would say more: these are international events, because teams from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan come to us.
Ivan Konobeev : I myself have never been, but my friends visited and came from there in wild delight. What is this anyway? Is it the study of history, theater, a desire to try yourself for survival in another era?
Anastasia Pankova : At first, the festival was conceived as a way to show what historical reconstruction and historical medieval battle are. We were just noticed at one point and offered to expand the program. This is how the first festival came about. This was in 2014. The festival lasted for one day. And seeing what we can show, we decided to spend it for two days. From that moment on, the occupancy rate expanded. Then we had three master classes, now there are about 30 of them, there are more than 10 locations, including children’s zones. This year there will be two lists.
Galina Bestuzheva. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev : If we translate the lists into Russian literary language. What’s this?
Anastasia Pankova : This is a fighting fence, an area where fighters show their skills. It is a full contact sport. Now, however, it is only just being registered as a sport in Russia. This martial art is quite dangerous for the audience. If you do not restrain the fighters within some framework, we had such that swords and halberds flew out at different world championships.
Ivan Konobeev : Now, probably, the number of those wishing to come has decreased among the listeners.
Anastasia Pankova: Why? Not. It is very spectacular, and people come to us for this. People need bread and circuses – this is about us. We have a lot of food there and a lot of spectacles. There is something to see.
Ivan Konobeev: Galina, is this event for you a study of history, theater or something else?
Galina Bestuzheva: For me, this is more a study of history, it is an educational event.Because people, immersed in this era, show interest in the study of history. And our festival contributes to the fact that people will open books and read how it happened, what happened, learn more about the history of our country.
Ivan Konobeev: Who came up with the name? “Prince’s yard” is not immediately readable.
Anastasia Pankova : We had several variants of names. We thought about it, probably, for three months. The options were different, there was something related to sables. We have a parallel project “Siberian Bridgehead”. This is the qualifying stage for the Siberian region specifically for the tournament players. This was also one of the options, but we went to the “Prince’s Dvor”.
We have a club called “Steel Fist”, which is located at the center “Vityaz”. We are engaged in the reconstruction of the life and weapons of Russia in the XIII-XIV centuries. And something Russian was closer to us. And the prince’s court is the place where the whole fair gathered, tournaments were organized. And we decided that this name suits us better.
Ivan Konobeev: Who are these people who come to the festival? Participants? And why do they need it? I’m not talking about the audience now. Although, if you talk about the audience, it will also be interesting. How many of them are there from festival to festival? And why do people come?
Anastasia Pankova: Participants can be creative people from blacksmiths who forge all this iron. Or maybe the director of the enterprise. There is even a prosecutor among the participants, like. The spread is large.
Anastasia Pankova. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Galina Bestuzheva: Both the director of a law firm and accountants. What interests you? Who are they in life?
Ivan Konobeev : Why are they doing this? Is it a hobby?
Anastasia Pankova: Probably, someone can say that it came from somewhere from books about chivalry, I wanted to plunge into this entourage. Also teachers, for them it is an educational process. In reconstruction there is such a thing as living history. This is a living story. We are doing an experiment on ourselves – how would we live in those centuries with such things.
Ivan Konobeev: If the electricity is cut off …
Anastasia Pankova: Do you know how wonderful it is to live without electricity? I want to go somewhere for this sometimes.
Galina Bestuzheva: Sometimes it makes me happy that my cell phone goes down.
Anastasia Pankova: Yes, because nobody touches you. You are somewhere in nature with your friends, eating the dishes that you dug. You wanted to cook them, and you cooked them.
Ivan Konobeev: Did you collect ready-made dishes, or is it figurative?
Anastasia Pankova : This is a figurative expression. Archeology gives us manuscripts – what happened then, what rye and millet.
Ivan Konobeev: And what did you eat the last of the “dug up”?
Anastasia Pankova : I switched to the European set, so I cook European dishes, there are whole books on them.In Russia, in the XIII-XIV centuries, writing was more on birch, and because of the weather, territorial location, we have little that has survived.
And during the Great Patriotic War, a lot of things were taken away from us. And now our books are in American museums. We don’t have access to them just to re-read them. A lot needs to be deciphered, disassembled, restored, and there is no time for that.
Ivan Konobeev: I see. What did you eat?
Anastasia Pankova: In Russia they loved turnips.
Ivan Konobeev: No, what did you eat at the last training camp? I was terribly interested in this.
Anastasia Pankova: We have such a delicious dish according to a European recipe. This is minced pork and beef, mixed with raisins, nuts, yolk, herbs are added there, meatballs are obtained. They are boiled in a cauldron in salted water, then baked in egg yolk with herbs on charcoal. The most important thing is that all this must be cooked over the fire.
Ivan Konobeev: Sounds good. That is, the knights ate this?
Anastasia Pankova: Boys are very fond of meat, so we contrive to cook some delicious and completely simple dishes. For example, simply chop the meat and grill it over charcoal.
Ivan Konobeev: Anastasia, I understand that you are engaged in reconstruction, and for you what you are doing is complete immersion in yourself. You really like it.
Galina, were you also interested in this topic, or have you already joined in the preparation process?
Galina Bestuzheva: First of all, I am a historian and culturologist by education. But I didn’t do it much, although this topic always interested me, and I always did some organizational things and, having met with the reenactors, I began to immerse myself in this matter. This is also very interesting to me, and I think that in the near future I will already start sewing in a European costume.
Ivan Konobeev: The festival has been held for the fifth year already. What’s new this year?
Galina Bestuzheva: The task and the idea of this festival was to preserve all the best, the most interesting and significant that was developed during the previous four festivals and to supplement it with new interesting venues.
This year we have created a new playground “Children’s world of the Middle Ages”. On it we placed a children’s shooting range with safety arrows with spherical tips so that it was impossible to damage anything. There is also a site for modern sword fighting, where guys with soft weapons in soft body armor and helmets try the techniques and skills that occur on the lists in iron.
When the guys go through all the stages of developing skills, they are divided into teams to take the fortress. Yes, it is toy, plywood, but you can take it. There is a gate, a battering ram, everything is real there. Even the horse is on wheels. A very busy site. There are micro-catapults, you can collect a tower from cubes and try to destroy it with a catapult.
Also this year, for the first time, we invited the Novosibirsk Museum to create a household location. They have an exposition of the 18th-19th centuries, even if it does not go so deeply into history, but they brought authentic rocker arms with which our modern girls tried to walk on water. Rubblers to iron linen shirts in those ways, grips, cast iron. This is all life before the advent of electricity. I hope this collaboration will be very interesting.
From the interesting sites of last year, we have retained the site “Professor of History”.We have a very good and serious relationship with the Pedagogical University, and teachers in an interesting, accessible, understandable form tell about historical events, about the milestones of the Middle Ages, about very significant milestones in history that influenced the Middle Ages, after which there were turning events.
This year, for the first time, we are doing a very interesting block – reenactors about history, that is, these are the people who dived in and are ready to tell about it. The knight will talk about what kind of people are in his retinue, what duties each of them has and, accordingly, based on their duties, what statuses and privileges they have. There will also be a lecture by a reenactor from Krasnoyarsk, who will talk about fashion in Italian armor. It is interesting to listen to both the reenactors themselves and people who are not very dedicated.
Ivan Konobeev. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Anastasia Pankova: Reenactor from Krasnoyarsk, we have a rather large-age young man, he is already 50. We have two such over-age fighters, and last year they had a fight in the lists.Andrey can be asked questions, and he will say everything he knows. I think that thanks to such people who love history and are engaged in it, I want to dive in there. In reality, they sometimes say: “What kind of circus is this?” And then they come up and begin to dive, try. For several years in a row, they wrote down recipes for what I cooked in the kitchen.
Galina Bestuzheva: Another interesting site – we tried it last year, it was very interesting – this is the “Weaving Side”, where we formed master classes on the topic of weaving. This year we have two authentic looms there, you can come and have a look. Maybe even try.
Ivan Konobeev: Where did you get the machines?
Galina Bestuzheva: Purchased in special workshops. The machines are specially made, without metal parts. Everything was done as it was before.
Ivan Konobeev: We touched a little on the topic of how it is perceived. An unprepared person who gets to an event, for example, accidentally came to Zaeltsovsky Park and saw that something was happening.Have you encountered any unusual reactions in five years?
Galina Bestuzheva: According to my feelings, I always see one reaction – delight, childish delight in the eyes of adults. They become like children.
And men who are 25-50 years old and more wake up their inner boy, and they cannot tear themselves away from it.
The stadium is generally a point of global attraction. And if at the first festivals we had a question about attracting people to this event, then by the fifth festival we had a question about how we should have a lot of interesting people to distribute people. Therefore, there are two lists, and the list of battles is no longer included in one.
Anastasia Pankova: This year I am going as the organizer of HMB (historical medieval battles). The unusual reaction of people is connected with the battles. Because someone is happy with the “I saw it!” Reaction. But when a person tries to get close to the lists, he is not allowed in for safety reasons, and people are often offended. But you need to understand that this is for the safety of the audience.
It so happens that children crawl under the lists, and the parents are completely immersed in the process and do not follow the children, and the children are scared. I don’t know how to influence them so that they get away from this picture and pay attention to their children.
Anastasia Pankova. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev: Preparing for the festival, do the participants make their own elements of armor and costumes in accordance with their real form, material, etc.? Can they really take a hit?
Anastasia Pankova: The blows will withstand. There are reenactors who recreate the armor that was found in the excavation, right down to the engravings. Depending on the amount of work the blacksmith has, the price of this set also rises. The more beautiful the set, the higher its owner was in class, for example, the nobility.
And there is a historical medieval battle. This is a sport where armor is styled. In most cases, people do for themselves, not by the standards that they used to be. On the one hand – for yourself, but on the other – it looks like the one that was found. I usually call this stylization, not reconstruction.
Ivan Konobeev: Is this done on a lathe with a drill, or is it with a hammer and a magic word and an anvil?
Anastasia Pankova: Some things are done with an anvil, some with a drill. If you take a helmet, you can see that it could be welded, but the hemispheres were knocked out with a hammer on the anvil. Previously, this was all pulled by hand. Previously, all this was not.
Galina Bestuzheva: Previously, sheet metal was scarce. The blank was loosened and stretched into a sheet. Of course, now this can also be reproduced, but it will be a different helmet. There are now such blacksmiths who work using the technologies, materials and tools that were before. And there are people who enjoy the benefits of civilization in the form of rolling metal and something else.
Galina Bestuzheva. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Anastasia Pankova: For the most part, the products of those who do everything authentically will not be so durable. They repeat the experiment.
Ivan Konobeev: Even so. It turns out that today’s armor is stronger than yesterday’s.
Anastasia Pankova: The type of metal is different now. If the reenactor takes the type of metal that was found during the excavation, then, for example, the HMB fighter takes metal, starting from stainless steel. We now have a permit for titanium armor. Can you imagine what it means to process titanium? It is very expensive, very light and mobile, someone needs them.
Galina Bestuzheva: Still on the question – does it hurt. In 2017, Muscovites came here for the first time, and there was a seminar of world champions on historical medieval combat. Our Russian guys held a master class for Novosibirsk clubs and those who attended the festival. And there they said – if they hit you in the armor, and it hurts, it means that you have the wrong armor. We must work to ensure that the blow does not break through. Armor usually withstands, they worked like this before, and now they continue to work.
Ivan Konobeev: As I understand it, now they work even better.
Anastasia Pankova: To some extent, yes.
Ivan Konobeev: The key question for all knights – how much does it cost? If you translate into yesterday’s money, then how much did the armor of an average, not very arrogant knight cost then, and how much does the same average “knight” in Novosibirsk spend on his armor?
Anastasia Pankova: If you take Russia, there used to be chain mail, and there are records that in the 13th century it cost like a small village of about 10 houses with all the cattle and population. This is quite expensive, provided that at that time there was a subsistence economy, and this all cost one chain mail. Then the wire was made in a different way than now. And it was very expensive.
If we take the European kit, I can’t say exactly how much they cost then, but now the European kit can be assembled, probably, from 20 thousand – the simplest helmet to protect it, the simplest brig. The armor consists of plates that are riveted onto the fabric. The difference between brigant armor is that it has metal on the outside.Exactly the same, in fact, brigant armor, only made of small pieces – this already refers more to Russia. This is just Russian armor. And the steppe peoples covered the metal on top with wool so that it would not heat up.
Galina Bestuzheva and Ivan Konobeev. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev: And how much does the chain mail cost today? A village yesterday, but today?
Anastasia Pankova: Average thousand 25.
Ivan Konobeev: That is, life has become cheaper after all.
Anastasia Pankova: And he also needs a helmet, bracers and everything.
Galina Bestuzheva: In the Middle Ages, if a peasant after a battle found a knight’s helmet, then he and his descendants were provided with a normal life. They didn’t show off, but they could live in peace, he and his children.
Anastasia Pankova: But not always. Now there is a very big dispute about what to take and, for example, put on some kind of armor or elements of clothing for a 15th century costume and take jewelry from the 14th century. And in most cases, if they found some expensive things in public, or old things, it was considered theft. If you have a sword, it means that you did not buy it, but stole it, and for this they cut off your hands.
Ivan Konobeev: That is, you could have risked your hands.
Let’s go back to the event. We have already said that it is noticeable, at least at the level of Russia, and is becoming international. And for these five years, you probably competed with someone. I believe that there are many people in Russia who are engaged in reconstruction, and since Novosibirsk is the third city in terms of population, there are probably at least two more cities in which there are reconstructions and festivals. If we compare with opponents, then what else is there in Russia, besides “Knyazhyi Dvor”?
Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Anastasia Pankova: There are a lot of events. For example, the tournaments “Recon”, “St. George”, this is Moscow within the framework of the “Times of the era” program. These are the “Warrior”, “Dynamo”, “Molodetskaya Prodal”, “Epic Coast” tournaments …
Ivan Konobeev: I understand, you cannot be stopped. The question is this: what role does Knyazhy Dvor play if you take this whole paradigm of festivals? Is he standing on one step, trying to break free and get up on a step? Or has he already earned a certain reputation, and people know about him and come from other cities?
Galina Bestuzheva: I would like to be judged from the outside, and by those people who participate in various festivals.
It is incorrect to talk about what kind of festival we are doing. Anastasia has listed a lot of festivals, each of them is special, it is difficult to compare them, because each festival focuses on something different, despite the fact that they all take place within the framework of historical reconstruction. But each festival has its own flavor and strengths.
But there is an objective thing, Anastasia herself personally represented our festival as part of event tourism, and he received a diploma as the best historical event in our region.
Anastasia Pankova: Yes, we received a diploma, because our festival was just in its infancy, it was two years old. We first flew with the main organizer to Vladivostok, defended ourselves there, then we got a trip to Yaroslavl. And there, at the federal level, we received an award paper – that, yes, we are good, but we need to tighten up a little more.
At that time, we had those people in the finalists with whom we are now working very closely. These are people from the Moscow team “Ratobortsy”, they presented several of their festivals, and from St. Petersburg, “Valor of the Ages”.They also had several festivals.
Anastasia Pankova and Galina Bestuzheva. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev: Is the fight on the lists still a theater or a sport? Objectively speaking, does the strongest, dexterous, and skillful by medieval standards really win? Or who will come out prettier, and who shines?
Anastasia Pankova: What we are holding at home is a historic medieval battle. This is not a sport yet, but only a kind of martial arts. But the situation should change soon. Now the registration of documents is underway in the Federation of Historical Martial Arts of Russia, which will subsequently make HMB an official sport. This is a full contact sport, and the guys beat each other, not sparing, under the slogan “We love to beat people!” Many come from wrestling, from boxing – they lack something, and they show all their skill on the lists. In the buhurt nomination, the task is to put all opponents, no matter how.
There is a certain set of rules and regulations, allowed and prohibited strikes. If you violate these rules, you will be disqualified, as in a real sport, the entire team can be removed. In the tournament, duel nomination, the guys fenced without trying to put each other down. The main task is to get as many points as possible.
All weapons in HMB are full-sized, but not sharpened. They can’t hurt anyone, but you can hit well.Historical medieval combat uses a sword, two-handed sword, shield, buckler and halberd – a large ax. So, with a sudden blow to the helmet with a halberd, you can easily turn off the enemy for a while. But this does not in the least confuse fans of historical reconstruction. And even girls.
Galina Bestuzheva: I am watching the development of the festival, and if in the second year of its holding there were single nominations for girls, now there are more and more girls who are fond of this direction. There is already a women’s team in Novosibirsk. Girls go to tournaments in Moscow and St. Petersburg. And how recklessly they fight and get sick! It is impossible to talk about it, you just have to see it.
Ivan Konobeev: We have already said that you can cook delicious food, but how else do medieval technologies help?
Anastasia Pankova: The most banal thing is that they teach children to sew, to sew on buttons. The guys forge their own armor, work with metal, wood, if they make furniture.Even to sew a tent, you need to know the principles of geometry, you remember drawing, arithmetic, algebra. Plus the love of reading, because we take a lot from books. Some are translated, and those that are not translated – you have to learn the language and translate yourself. And all so that, for example, I want a beautiful belt, and I need to know for what period, what century, what region, will it suit me, or not? You need to re-read a bunch of books to put together a set.
Anastasia Pankova, Galina Bestuzheva and Ivan Konobeev.Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev: Should the suit match? Can’t you take something from one century, something from another?
Galina Bestuzheva: Of course not! What do you!
Anastasia Pankova: If you take Russia, then we have a graduation of 100 years, that is, we can take beads, jewelry, fabrics that are suitable for the region for 100 years. In Europe, the limit is 50 years, because they have more family things preserved, most of the manuscripts, manuscripts are some kind of family values. And they have been preserved until the XI-XII centuries, people re-read, look. And there you can see how fashion has evolved. If we take the fashion of the beginning of the XIV century and the end, then these are absolutely two different styles, headdresses. Women look like some kind of jewelry, beads, for example, they hang on their belts, leather belts with overlays, and everything else is different. For example, the style at the beginning of the XIV century is more loose-fitting, at the end it is more fitted.
Ivan Konobeev: That is, there is historically more evidence on which to navigate. And we have 100 years.
Galina Bestuzheva: It is also impossible to confuse socially, not only the time frame. The peasant woman cannot wear the princess’s beads, etc.
Ivan Konobeev: Do you have costumes of peasants or princesses?
Anastasia Pankova: I have one set of a wealthy Novgorod city woman with silver. The second set is the wives of a merchant from Cologne at the end of the 14th century.
Ivan Konobeev: Prosperous too?
Anastasia Pankova : I’m the wife of a merchant, I have everything.
Ivan Konobeev: Galina, what about you?
Galina Bestuzheva: I just think about the costume. But, probably, I’ll start with the nobility. She is closer to my soul. The question of finances, as well as whether there are those fabrics and materials that you wanted. I’m talking about dreams so far.
Anastasia Pankova: For example, you need to make yourself a 15th century dress from velvet, which was silk. Now it is impossible to find silk velvet in the city, it can only be ordered. The width of the fabric is about 60 centimeters, a cut per meter costs about 130 dollars. The dress needs 10 meters …
Anastasia Pankova, Galina Bestuzheva and Ivan Konobeev. Photo: Rostislav Netisov, nsknews.info
Ivan Konobeev: Knights from the Middle Ages, an understandable bundle – a sword, a helmet. If we talk about the fact that there are many festivals, as I understand it, this is very strongly supported in the West. It is interesting to people precisely because they have preserved these traditions.
How promising is it to be engaged in the reconstruction of a costume in life, lists of stadiums at the level of Siberia, Siberian peoples and those who lived here, if we talk about the Middle Ages? The festival is called “Knyazhy Dvor”, it has a kind of grounding in Siberia. In this direction, it makes sense to continue it, or is the knightly direction more interesting? Is this what attracts people and will continue to attract them?
Galina Bestuzheva: If we talk about the history of Siberia, then let’s remember what happened around Novosibirsk and where we live.
The first Europeans appeared here in the 1720s – Chaussky ostrog, Berdsky ostrog. Therefore, here we are talking either only about the steppe dwellers who lived here. This is an indigenous population, and archeology is not 100% sure that their way of life was exactly that. How many years have they been looking for Yermak’s grave, and to this day there are disputes about where and what happened. The facts are very vague.
Ivan Konobeev: What am I talking about – Uighurs, Yenisei Kyrgyz, etc. It’s also interesting about them.
Galina Bestuzheva: I would say that this is not so much about reconstruction as about ethnicity, immersion in the history of peoples and people who carry these traditions. We don’t have that many traditions left, so it won’t be easy.
Ivan Konobeev: Is it interesting or not, if you develop in this direction?
Anastasia Pankova: Stepniks are nomadic tribes, they wandered from place to place. And if to reconstruct, then, probably, the household part. For example, how they cooked fish in ash – they buried it in the ground, dried it in a special way. These are the directions that may be interesting to someone. It all depends on what the person wants to see. But man wants to see beauty all the same. And our beauty was mostly in the European part. This is the same Kievan Rus, Novgorod, Moscow. And Western Europe, we know more about it.
Galina Bestuzheva: And I would also like to say that for what is interesting to people, they vote with their feet, if about 48,000 people came to the fourth festival “Knyazhy Dvor”, then we can say that this topic is in demand.
Anastasia Pankova: We always want to show what we live with and develop it all.
Ivan Konobeev: Thank you for talking! All the best!

90,000 Teacher in armor. How the Smolensk teacher came up with the lessons of “living history” | EDUCATION | SOCIETY
A young teacher Dmitry Komarov can easily come to a lesson in chain mail and with a sword – this is how a graduate of the Faculty of History and Law of Smolensk State University attracts students’ interest in the difficult period of the Russian Middle Ages. How staging a real battle in the classroom helps to popularize the history of Medieval Russia and whether it contributes to the progress of students, Dmitry told “AiF-Smolensk”.
This is how Dmitry prepares for the lesson. Photo: From personal archive
From theory to action
Valeria Nelyubova: Dmitry, what is your project “Lessons from Living History”, within the framework of which you conduct such unusual costumed lectures?
Dmitry Komarov: This is an ordinary history lesson for forty to forty-five minutes, but the emphasis in it is not on the theoretical part, but on the visual component. Imagine: instead of an ordinary teacher, a warrior of Ancient Russia in armor and with a weapon enters the classroom, all the attention of the students is immediately riveted to him – it’s already interesting. And then the lesson can be divided into three stages. The first is just theory. The teacher tells the material, shows his costume, his sword, ax, shield – everything he brought. Explains what is needed and for what, how what appeared, for what purpose, in what period of time, explains the cause-and-effect relationship of the appearance of this or that element, the meaning of the patterns. For this we use very realistic things that are used in reconstructions – not theatrical props. Many establishments of our and not only our city stylize the interior in the Middle Ages, you know, all these nesting dolls, bagels … It’s all fun, but it does not give any idea of that time, this is a fake.Everything is fair with us.
At the second stage, we directly let the children try on chain mail, hold a weapon in their hands, and try on the image of a warrior. The third step is to stage a battle. We show some acrobatics, make it clear how the body behaves in heavy armor. Naturally, everything is under our close control so as not to injure anyone. Our goal is to show schoolchildren how our people lived at that time, what difficulties they had to face. This is how a modern child can form a more complete picture of the past.
– And all of this helps children to do better in history?
– Of course! If a person is interested in something, he strives to learn more, to understand better. And as a result, the scores are getting higher. After each such lesson, boys and girls come up to us asking where we can continue this exciting lesson. We replenish the Smolensk historical clubs, in particular “Istoki”, of which we ourselves are.
Within the framework of the school curriculum, it is necessary, first of all, to foster patriotism so that children respect the place where they live and consider themselves to be the successors of the great history. This is exactly what our project is doing: we make it feel that people before us were the same, they just lived in different conditions. In which ones – but, look. This makes it easier to realize your involvement in the world of the past
– You say “we”, that is, you are not the only Smolensk teacher of “living history”?
– My friend Ilya Ivanov and I came up with the idea of the project. We are both from history faculty, both took an active part in the reconstruction project: we went to festivals, participated in “battles”.Once we thought about how we can use this hobby. If you sing, you can give concerts, if you play football, go to championships. What benefits can reconstruction bring? Since both of us are history teachers, we decided that the skills could be useful for demonstrations on certain topics.
For the first time we tried to conduct such a lesson in one of the Smolensk schools, both we and the children liked it. Then there were other schools, a pedagogical lyceum, the Konenkov Museum. They became interested in us at the university, offered to participate in the competition of youth initiatives, and after that – in the all-Russian competition of the Fund of St. Andrew the First-Called in Sevastopol. Then we took first place, and realized that the project is really important. We had a lot of worthy rivals from all over the country, as well as from Ukraine and Belarus, and everyone supported us. Now we are also cooperating with the foundation as, so to speak, luminaries.
A question of ideology
– The teaching of history today is generating intense public interest and much controversy. Do you think the country’s ideology and the lessons of history are two inseparable things?
– The story has many functions. One of the main things for history at school is educational. The teacher must explain to the younger generation how to relate to our roots, that we must respect them and cherish the memory of our ancestors. Of course, there are a lot of interpretations of historical events, and it is not surprising that in Russia there is one of them, in the United States there is another, in China – a third. Every country in the world has its own official position on different phenomena. History as a science should seek the truth in the midst of all this, and, naturally, it does not exclude contradictions.Within the framework of the school curriculum, it is necessary, first of all, to foster patriotism so that children respect the place where they live and consider themselves to be the successors of the great history. This is exactly what our project is doing: we make it feel that people before us were the same, they just lived in different conditions. In which ones – but, look. This makes it easier to realize your involvement in the world of the past.
One boy from the elementary grades ran during the break with a bag behind his back and shouted “I am Batman!” Passed our “live” lesson, and at the next break, in the same situation, he shouted “I am a hero!”
– Can we say that today’s Smolensk schoolchildren are patriotic?
– In my practice there was such a story. One boy from the elementary grades ran during the break with a bag behind his back and shouted “I am Batman!” Our “live” lesson passed, and at the next break he shouted “I am a hero!” In the same situation. I don’t know how patriotic children are in general, but I could not but rejoice that thanks to our project one little person has become closer to the history of his homeland (laughs).
In the Smolensk region, there are many historical societies, festivals are held, including the famous Gnezdovsky. After all, what kind of land we have is a historical layer on a historical layer. Most of the major wars took place through our city. In short, literally everything in Smolensk provokes interest in the history of the region, and as a result – to love it.
Gusty Souls
Smolensk history teachers dragged the boat to the river. Dmitry is at the head of the company. Photo: From the personal archive
– How would you not be sure to advise to conduct a history lesson? What mistakes do you think teachers make most often?
– Well, among history teachers you rarely find indifferent, indifferent people. As a rule, these people are impetuous, ready for a hike, and for a festival with children, and in general for any interesting initiative. For example, once I was rafting on a boat as part of the campaign “From the Varangians to the Greeks”, which was organized by Sweden in cooperation with Smolensk. So, I am sitting in a boat, and next to me are entirely teachers-historians! These are such people, on the contrary, any routine and paperwork kills them. So I cannot name any mistakes.
– Are you going to expand your project?
– In the future, of course, I would like to.But for this we need a couple more initiative people who sincerely love history and reconstruction. After all, everything is free, on enthusiasm. In addition, we are developing a new channel for transmitting educational information, a new way of presenting it through board games popular among young people. Ilya develops historical board games, I, since I am fond of poetry, are more literary. While this is all in its infancy, but I hope to implement this idea in the lesson. And in general, I hope that this project will live and develop further, because the benefits and pleasure from it are obvious.

Dry Armor Knight | Own Business
Kevin Planck, 41-year-old founder of Under Armor, is “worth” $ 2.4 billion. In the United States, long past the era of initial capital accumulation, this fortune is most often obtained in one of two ways – by inheritance or through financial speculation. Our hero earned everything by producing sportswear and competing “head-on” with such giants as Nike, Adidas and Reebok. The uniqueness of this story is also added by the fact that the rise of Under Armor came during the years of the economic crisis.
“I can’t stand still, I have to run somewhere, my energy is overflowing” – this is how Kevin Planck describes himself. But his irrepressible energy alone would hardly have been enough for him to achieve such an impressive, almost incredible success. Another, no less important character trait is a constant (manifested in childhood) tendency to analyze one’s actions and psychological motives.Planck also turned out to be a realist: until a certain time his life revolved around American football, but he admitted early enough that he could not reach real heights as a professional player, and chose a business. True, nothing goes in vain: the principles of team play, learned on the playing field, were also useful in building a company.
Kevin was the fifth child in a large middle-class family: his father worked as a land agent, and his mother was a civil servant, whose highest point of career was the position of head of department in the Ronald Reagan administration. The boy studied so unimportantly that he did not manage to finish preparatory school. He was admitted to college only thanks to his sports talent – Planck managed to prove himself in the city American football team.
In 1991, Kevin seemed to take up his mind: he entered the University of Maryland, where he began to study much better, without ceasing, however, playing football with enthusiasm. On the varsity team he was nicknamed “the sweatiest guy on the football field.” Hyperactive Plank, of course, could not affect sweating and already in the fifth minute of the game was running across the field in a wet T-shirt.“She was heavy, and it seemed to me that I was running more and more slowly,” the Under Armor founder later recalled. “In the 1990s, cotton dominated the sportswear market, and I even began to suffer from insomnia – all night long I wondered what to replace it with.”
In search of a suitable fabric, the aspiring entrepreneur went to New York, where he came across a mixture of polyester and lycra, which is often used in the manufacture of lingerie. It fit snugly to the body, but did not absorb sweat, but passed it through itself, bringing it to the outer surface. At the same time, the fabric did not lose its original properties at all – it did not stretch under the weight of moisture and did not shrink after washing.
Kevin Plank about myself:
• “I’ve always been a good kid, but occasionally found adventure on my head. But it was a question of growing up – sometimes it is important to “reinvent” yourself, temporarily become what you want to see yourself ”
•“ I’ve always been the guy who manages to bring people together under the banner of some idea ”
•“ I started to produce clothes during the techno boom, when it was hard to imagine, I just took a chance and decided to start my own business. ”
•“ I realized early on that I am a very good organizer. While my friends were hanging out at concerts, I made money and tried to take control of everything. “
With a roll of synthetic fabric in one hand and a cotton T-shirt in the other, Kevin visited a tailor he knew. After trying seven different prototypes (they cost $ 480), he got what he wanted. After that, 23-year-old Planck, who graduated from college in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, did not hesitate. By that time, he received an invitation to get a job in one of the insurance companies.Planck recalled that he was horrified when he imagined his future job: “I would commit suicide because I couldn’t do it!” So he turned down the recruitment service and opened the first office of a company in the basement of his grandmother’s house in Washington, which he called Under Armor.
Production of the first batch of five hundred T-shirts Kevin paid from the $ 17,000 he saved up while delivering flowers for Valentine’s Day. An additional source of funding for the startup was $ 40,000.with five credit cards. The entrepreneur likes to emphasize that he paid off the debt accurately, without delaying a single payment.
Ryan Wood, Planck’s first partner, recalled that even then his friend did not know the restraint in ambition and intended to create “something like Coca-Cola, but in the field of sportswear.” “Those were absurd, but the happiest days of our life. We assured each other that we were going to beat Nike while we sat in the basement and laid out T-shirts in cardboard boxes, the bottom of which had not yet had time to damp, ”Wood grinned a few years later.
Under Armor’s promotion strategy was not original: Plank began distributing T-shirts for free to active players, many of whom he knew personally from his student days. There were at least 40 NFL players among them, and Kevin called each one in person to suggest a jersey. He also asked them to donate shirts to other players. Thus, Under Armor products were tested by professional athletes, and information about jerseys that do not get wet from sweat, keep them cool and support muscles quickly spread throughout the sports community.“My first goal was to train athletes to think that there was an alternative to a cotton T-shirt,” said Planck.
Under Armor turned to a wide audience only when it had already achieved recognition among “its own”. In 1999, Planck spent $ 25,000 on a half-page ad in the sports magazine ESPN, after which annual revenues exceeded a million dollars for the first time. In 2002, the company, which moved to the buildings of the former Procter & Gamble plant, has already earned a solid reputation as a niche manufacturer in the market for high-tech apparel for professional athletes.Under Armor tees were more expensive than cotton tees ($ 25), but one of the adverts was that they wear less and last longer.
However, the properties of the products did not provide Under Armor with a quick victory. The fact is that most teams from different sports and different age categories – from high schools to the pros – have long had contracts with other clothing manufacturers. Nike owned the lion’s share of these contracts. Even Plank’s own team at the University of Maryland could not buy UA jerseys because of this, no matter how much the players liked their quality. But in the end, the competitor was let down by clumsiness. When the players needed red turtlenecks, Nike could not quickly fulfill the order, and the nimble Plank immediately climbed in with his turtlenecks, even agreeing to not see the corporate logo on them. Gradually, Kevin’s company took over the supply to the team of the products for which the contract with Nike expired. No Under Armor footwear was produced at that time, so only sneakers remained from Nike in the equipment of the players.
It should be noted that Planck has always been a master of networking. To advertise products, he attracts familiar sports stars, and in his company he employed many classmates with whom he studied at college and university. “What I do well is teamwork, I can motivate,” says Kevin. “It’s simple: I use the same principles that I learned while playing football.” Sports ideology has truly become a part of Under Armor culture. For example, company meetings are held in a “heap” format (huddle) – as in American football is called a quick meeting of players right on the field during the game.
The fact that many people favor Under Armor and its charismatic founder (Americans even note the similarity of Kevin Planck to Richard Gere), became clear in 2005, during the company’s IPO. On the first day, Under Armor shares jumped 94% in price. And this is despite the fact (or perhaps due to the fact) that Planck ignored the professionals from Goldman Sachs, who recommended to focus on dry numbers during road shows (supposedly investors only love them), and did everything in his own way: he ordered the production of emotional video about the company, its products and its consumers.
As a result of the placement, Kevin retained 22% of the company’s shares with 74% of the voting shares, which allows him to fully control operational and strategic activities (his mother, brothers and partners Ryan Wood and Kip Falk also have shares in the company).
Under Armor’s success in the sportswear segment for professional athletes has not been comparable to its achievements in the mass market, where a cool brand (such as Nike, Adidas or Reebok) sometimes means much more to consumers than some technology that allows athletes stay dry.Under Armor launched its invasion of the consumer market with the least conservative target audience outside of the mainstream – youngsters aged 12-18. The promotion strategy included product placement: the 2006 Friday Night Lights television series, which features a high school soccer team in the fictional Texas town of Dillon, sported UA T-shirts.
The company purposefully created the image of a teenage brand and did not imitate the market leaders, but, on the contrary, sharpened its differences.According to Kevin Planck himself, Under Armor’s marketing strategy is based on the same universal principles that he developed while playing sports. For example, while Nike celebrates individualism, Under Armor promotes team spirit.
The crisis that struck in 2008 did not stop Under Armor’s growth. In 2009, the company employed more than 2,000 people worldwide (1,200 of them were employed at manufacturing facilities in Baltimore, USA), and annual revenues were $ 725 million. In 2012, the company already employed more than 4,000 people, its turnover reached $ 1.8 billion, and the market share of mass sportswear in the United States was 3%. And yet this is not enough for Kevin Planck – the laurels of the main competitor do not give him rest. First, Nike’s share of the athletic apparel, footwear and accessories market is still more than double its 7% share. Of Under Armor’s revenue structure, only 6% comes from overseas, while Nike’s is over 60%. The athletic shoe business is currently generating only 1% of revenue for Under Armor, while Nike has 42%.In addition, Kevin Planck knows exactly what other direction is “sagging” and what he has to do in the near future – this is the segment of women’s sportswear. This is a rather specific product that Planck has not been closely involved with before.
So the chapter of Under Armor will still have to sweat, if not on the football field, but in a competitive race to satisfy his champion ambitions.
Kevin Planck
Born in 1972 in Kensington, Maryland (USA).He started his first business projects while a student at the University of Maryland. He graduated from university in 1996 and founded Under Armor the same year. In 2012, he took the third line in the list of the twenty most influential American CEOs under 40 according to Forbes. He is the main shareholder of Under Armor. The size of the personal fortune is estimated at $ 2.4 billion.
Fiasco in Sochi
The Winter Games in Sochi, for which Under Armor had been preparing for a long time, developing innovative equipment for the athletes of the US Olympic team, almost turned out to be a terrible blow to the company’s reputation.American skaters who competed in speed skating performed extremely poorly. At a distance of 1000 meters, two-time Olympic champion Shani Davis came in eighth, and Heather Richardson, who set the previous world record, was seventh among women. The athletes explained their failure by the fact that the futuristic Mach 39 suit, developed by Under Armor with the participation of engineers from the aerospace corporation Lockheed Martin, allegedly “did not fit well.” Made from five synthetic fabrics, the Mach 39 has been wind tunnel tested and named “the world’s fastest speed skating suit.”At the same time, the team members received the equipment at the end of January and could only update it at the Olympics. One of the accusations leveled against the Mach 39 was that the vents on the back impair the aerodynamic performance of the suit. The athletes stated that they had to “wrestle with the suit” in order to maintain the correct body position. After the first six performances in Sochi, the athletes asked for permission to replace the new suits with old ones (also from Under Armor, but without the traitorous holes), but the results did not improve.Heather Richardson modified the Mach 39 by herself, covering the holes with an impenetrable patch, but was forced to admit that she did not feel the difference.
Under Armor urgently sent the head of its R&D department to Sochi, who did not retaliate towards the athletes, but only promised that the company would “move mountains” to make the new generation of suits even better. For a company that spent $ 20 million to sponsor an Olympic team hoping to bathe in the glory of the winners, this failure (whatever the cause) was at least a missed opportunity to proclaim the superiority of its products.More serious consequences, it seems, have been avoided: at the end of February, Under Armor extended the sponsorship deal with the national speedskating team for another eight years. The team members, for their part, officially confirmed that suits were not the reason for the failure in Sochi. Against the background of this news, the company’s shares rose in price by 5%.

The cult film about a cyborg out of control starts the top of the best films about robots. The scenery is classic: an American city in which crime and violence would be enough for three Gotham. But this Detroit forgotten by Gordon, apparently, did not deserve its Batman: instead of the flying guy, they invented Robocop. Dr. Mary Lazarus (biblical reference of the eightieth leveled) from the body of police officer Alex Murphy, who died at the hands of a drug dealer, collects a powerful cyborg, capable of breaking walls with a fist. With such abilities, Robocop easily cleans the streets from criminal dirt and replaces a dozen living policemen. The cyborg is sewn four directives, which he cannot violate: to protect the innocent, serve society, observe the law. The fourth directive is strictly classified, but the robot has no time for it – there are also enough problems with the first three. In addition, the consciousness of the resurrected Alex Murphy begins to crawl into the ideal mechanism of a robocop: the titanium defender of Detroit is covered with memories. And this is not pleasant nostalgia for the summer in pre-coronavirus Italy, these are flashbacks about their own murder. Having rummaged in himself, the robocop decides that service is a service, and a little revenge will not harm anyone, and goes to punish his killer. And against the backdrop of the history of one brutal cyborg, there is an underground seizure of Detroit by one powerful corporation. This fantastic action movie has become so popular and successful at the box office that the Robocop franchise currently has four full-length films, and for those who like to watch something longer – animated series and television series.

Isaac Asimov is a popular science fiction writer, practically the Tolkien of modern science fiction. This American Jew, born in the Smolensk province, coined the term “robotics” and formulated three of its laws, which are still tacitly observed in science fiction:
A robot cannot harm a person or, by its inaction, allow harm to be done to a person. A robot must obey all orders given by a human, except when these orders are contrary to the First Law. The robot must take care of its safety to the extent that it does not contradict the First or Second Laws.
Isaac Asimov in the 40s of the last century suggested that mankind needs a strong, kind friend – a robot, and it was in his works that soulless cans stopped massively getting out of control and destroying their creators. The film “I Am Robot” is based on the works of Asimov and is based on his ideas, so all fans of robotics should watch this movie.
Plot: 2035, people have long ago dumped many of their responsibilities and affairs on robots, and humanity lives in a world with high-tech mechanisms. But some especially stubborn refuse to recognize droids as friends. Detective Spooner generally believes that you need to stay as far away from robots as possible, and categorically does not trust these friendly machines. His behavior seems eccentric and stupid, until one day a detective is assigned to investigate a murder in which the robot Sunny is suspected. True, Spooner has no time to gloat and tell everyone that “he said the same!”: The matter is becoming more complicated, and not only the life of a policeman, but also the fate of the entire civilization is under threat.

Armored droids clean the streets of bandits and help cops in all operations. But the main developer of mechanical cops, Deon Wilson, thinks that the technology of metal protectors can be improved, so, secretly from the authorities, who disapprove of the young scientist’s enthusiasm, Deon kidnaps one of the robots and prepares to endow him with a human mind and the ability to feel. But the genius-kidnapper is intercepted by freak gangsters and forcing Deon to program a new type of droid for their criminal needs. As a result, Chappie is born – an eared robot-child, ready to learn and explore the world. The same gangsters, similar to Harley Quinn, become his mentors, so Chappy learns to wear a rapper chain, masters street jargon and trains the tough kid’s gait. And at night, Chappie visits its creator, Deon, and teaches the cute droid to draw and be a good boy.
It would seem that with such a scenario, Chappy has a bipolar and a successful career as a robo-Joker (he has his own pencil), but no: an evil engineer from a large corporation wants to destroy Chappy and other Deon’s creations in order to launch his own army of droids; and a family of gangsters is actively hunted by a local drug boss. In such conditions, Chappy will have to grow up quickly and choose his side of the power.

Eleven years after the start of the franchise, after the shameful rating death of the last films, his solo album received the most charming of the transformers – Bumblebee. The film follows the adventures of little Bee long before he became the luxurious Chevrolet Camaro. In the late 80s, the Autobot makes an emergency landing on Earth, hiding from the pursuit of the Decepticons, but on our planet, the transformer is met with fire by the military. As a result, Bumblebee gets serious breakdowns and hides under the guise of a cute yellow “Beetle”. It is in this form that B finds his first earthly friend, Charlie’s girlfriend, who is obsessed with cars. However, even the most gentle of the humanities, who does not know where the car’s engine is and how it differs from the radiator, would quickly discover that the handsome “Beetle” is not an ordinary car.
The film is markedly different from the rest of the franchise: there are fewer battles, explosions and epic music, and there is no theme of politics and ruined cities at all.Bumblebee is almost a family movie, there are a lot of jokes and beautiful landscapes, and in the center there is a touching story about an introverted girl who has lost her father.

One of the earliest representatives of cyberpunk and neo-noir, the film, the director’s cut of which in the 90s was named the best science fiction film in history by a survey of sixty scientists.A cult dystopian movie about the future, where lawlessness, crime and humanism are dying on the streets.
Rick Deckard is a blade runner. His job is to catch replicants who oppose the current regime. Replicants are products of genetic engineering, androids, surpassing people in strength and intelligence, but deprived of almost all rights, including the right to live. In essence, replicants are slaves of humanity, mostly soldiers, miners or prostitutes. Of course, having a developed mind and superhuman abilities, many androids do not want to put up with the lawlessness of their creators and arrange revolutions, try to escape and break the system, but this is impossible – the replicant at the time of creation is doomed to live only a limited number of years.
Robots are no different from humans in appearance, and the only proof of humanity is a special test for the ability to feel. Rick Deckard tests his secretary with a test and is surprised to find that she is not human. In this pessimistic, dying world, you cannot even believe yourself, and Deckard is finally convinced of this, leaving on the trail of a group of replicants who fled from a space colony to earth to meet their creator.

Programmer Caleb Smith receives a dream proposal for any geek: to sit for a week in an isolated stylish mansion in the company of a billionaire genius and two robots. The only task is to communicate with attractive machines and test the artificial intelligence that is implanted in them. But Ava, a robot woman whose behavior Caleb must study, looks more and more like a human: nervously fiddling with the hem of her dress, changing intonation, she seems now agitated, now aloofly tender. Caleb reacts to all of Ava’s changes in a very predictable manner and sincerely becomes attached to the robot girl. But this is not a melodrama at all, but a thriller, so that the relationship of the characters does not cause tears of affection, but twists the suspense at full power, playing with the imagination and attention of the audience, as Ava plays with the nature of Caleb.

In this picture of the top of the best films about robots, the future is similar to the game The Sims: people sit at home, and for communication, work, entertainment, and in general for everything, they use surrogates.A surrogate is a body that each user (operator) creates for his own taste. The surrogate operator feels everything that his “character” is, but at the same time, whatever happens to the surrogate, the operator remains safe. More precisely, the whole world thought so, until FBI agent Tom Greer discovered the body of the operator who controlled the surrogate killed at the nightclub. One murder can turn this entire simulation world inside out, so Greer will have to make every effort to find the culprit.

This film Stanley Kubrick wanted to make for thirty years, but did not have time. After Kubrick’s death, Steven Spielberg ended up in the director’s chair, and largely due to this, the audience will hate themselves and all of humanity much less than they could under Kubrick’s leadership. Spielberg brought a little optimism and warmth into this story about the selfishness and soullessness of people, but it will still be difficult even for your insensitive ex to watch this tape and never feel painful pricks of conscience and sympathy.
In the XXII century, the world is on the verge of flooding: the glaciers have melted (unlike human hearts!), Resources are scarce, and the government severely restricts childbearing. But on the other hand, people live quite peacefully with highly intelligent machines, and scientists have even invented the first robot boy in history who can sincerely love.
Robochild David is sent to live with the family of Monica and Henry Swintons (because they are ugly pigs!), Whose son is temporarily in a state of suspended animation due to a rare disease. Monica activates David’s love projection program and even becomes attached to the boy herself. At first everything goes the best way: everyone is happy, David is a wonderful child, Monica and Henry enjoy life, but when the Swintons’ own son returns to the family, David is faced with the fact that his program is not able to accept – with cruelty. As a result, the boy is thrown out of the house as an unnecessary toy, and David, hugging his robotic bear, stands alone in the middle of the forest and dreams of finding a fairy and becoming a real child so that his mother will love him again.
The level of drama is somewhat reduced by Joe – a robot on the run, who becomes a friend to David and goes on a fantastic adventure with him. But the finale of the picture still feeds the audience with glass, so it is worth watching the most impressionable with someone warm by their side.

There are not many comedies in this top – science fiction does not like jokes with robots. But this film, based on the work of Isaac Asimov, is quite capable of causing a smile, and laughter, and even a couple of moved tears.
Humanity is gradually abandoning barking and meowing allergens, and more and more robots are being introduced in families. Richard Martin also decided to pamper his family with a fashionable gift and brought NDR-114, a robot butler, to the house. The droid was named Andrew, and very soon it became clear that Andrew had a marriage: this metal guy showed imagination, a talent for needlework and, the strangest thing – the ability to feel. The creator of NDR-114 wants to take Andrew and fix these mistakes, but Robert does not give his robot under the knife and, on the contrary, develops the unique capabilities of the droid and teaches him to be alive. This is how a two-hundred-year story begins about the search for an answer to the question: who is a person?
Trailer:
The film is a philosophical story in a fantastic wrapper, absorbing all the best that the charming and infinitely kind Robin Williams and the master of family cinema Chris Columbus could give her.You can safely look under the New Year’s mood – the atmosphere of a cozy, warm fairy tale is provided.

It is sometimes difficult for pensioners to prove that Wi-Fi is not radioactive, and the card does not steal money by itself.Frank is also a rather conservative old man: he loves printed books and his secluded, independent life. But Frank’s grown-up son thinks that the moment has come when children know better what aging parents need. Therefore, a pensioner who abandoned his career as a professional thief because of his age and developing Alzheimer receives a robot nurse as a gift. Again, Frank is a conservative grandfather, so the mechanical nanny in the house does not make him any joy. However, the old man quickly realizes that it is not so important what the friend is made of: the mechanical assistant not only teaches Frank to a healthy lifestyle, looks after the house and garden, but is also ready to crank up a couple of daring scams with his ward who is losing memory.
The events unfold in the near future: you can’t surprise anyone with robotic housewives here, but the rest of the world on the screen is not very different from ours. This funny and touching film can be called truly warm: the gloomy blue-green hues usual for sci-fi films are absent here, everything is flooded with sunlight and painted with fresh, juicy colors. All in all, this is a cozy movie with unobtrusive humor about the value of friendship and family.

In the top there was already a picture about a robot boy being raised by people, but in this film the opposite is true. Some time after the apocalypse, the robot “Mother” brings up a girl in a pre-prepared UN bunker. The child was raised by Mother from one of the sixty thousand embryos that were left in the bunker in case of the end of the world. Years pass, the Mother teaches the girl philosophy and ethics and prepares the ward to pass the exam for moral fitness and humanity. But one day a seriously wounded woman knocks on the door of the bunker. A living woman. Such a turn changes everything in the life of a teenager who was raised as the first and only person of a new civilization.
In this film on our list, there are no space travel, beautiful landscapes of the distant future, hints of magic and fantasy, adventure and intriguing detective lines. There is only a bunker and three heroes who do not even have names: the robot is called Mother, the girl is the Daughter, and the woman is the Woman. But in such intimate conditions, the creators of the tape managed to play a philosophical thriller with horror elements.

Rounding off the top movie, the title of which would be suitable for a melodrama, comedy or family movie. But no – this is another thriller.
Joanna Eberhart and her husband move to the ideal town of Stepford: green lawns are always here, the aromas of home cooking are everywhere, and every home is radiantly clean. But this movie bears little resemblance to Desperate Housewives: firstly, there is no crime at all, and secondly, all the wives here are flawless dolls from one machine. Stepford’s artificial women don’t care about anything other than household chores, and the main characters, Joanna and her friends, are surprised.
Active girls are used to being on a par with their busy husbands, therefore, noticing that all the men of the city go to some kind of “society of men”, Joanna and Bobby Markov are trying to organize the same society for women. But nothing comes of it, none of the housewives is interested in this, and after a while Bobby Markov herself and Joanna’s other friend also give up their hobbies and devote their whole lives exclusively to caring for husbands and homes. Author’s Note : Reading without knowledge of the film being analyzed is strongly discouraged. There are a lot of spoilers inside.
June 2019. It’s been 3 years since the western adaptation of the anime Ghost in the Shell was released by director Rupert Sanders. During this period of time, this film was revised by me, as if not to lie, 5-6 times, if not more. This still doesn’t match the revision number of the original, but the figure is still impressive. There is only one reason for this – the release of Western adaptation, personal for me, has become a landmark. It was thanks to her (adaptation) that I got acquainted with the original, which helped me get out of the circle of stereotypical thinking about cinema and motivated me to study cinema deeper. If in 2017 I was not impressed, who knows, maybe my work continued to be replete with tags such as “consistency” , “clichés” and “dumb characters”.
But I am one thing, the rest of the people for whom the film by Rupert Sanders remained and still remains just an action movie, which lost everything for which everyone loved the original, is another matter. To some extent, my presence among such persons cannot be ruled out either, because I agree with people and understand them. Except that I have something more to do with the film; there is some sentimental story that does not allow him to simply be forgotten. Therefore, spontaneous revision meant nothing more than the very fact of revision; except for the injection into the blood of a small dose of cyberpunk to keep the body in good shape in anticipation of the release of the project from CD Project Red . What happened in the end? As a result, you are reading this material, which means that the revision turned out to be an interesting find, with which I hasten to share with you.
It should also be added that I tried to interpret “New Gits” (I will call it that) many times. As it seemed to me then, not least because the film itself is as simple as two kopecks, I saw everything that I could see in it. This was the wrong conclusion. The problem turned out to be that my attempts at interpretation began at the end of the film, and the logic here is quite obvious.Very often, for a more understandable transmission of the essence of the story, the creators at the end of the same story directly convey the driving idea to the viewer through a line of dialogue, a voiceover or the last words. In “New Gits” these words are also there and they sound like this:
“We cling to memories as if they define us, but what we do defines us. My soul survived to remind the next of us that humanity is our virtue.I know who I am and what I am for in this world “
Where’s the catch? There is a catch, and not one. First, in this context, it would be more appropriate for translators to use the word “humanity” rather than “humanity”, because in the next scene the character is preparing to kill people, by the way. The emotional color of the two words is completely different. This can be considered a gross localization error.Second, the role of memories in defining a person is reduced to zero. And for the viewer, this turns out to be a key problem in understanding the film, because in 100% of cyberpunk stories, from children’s “NextGen” to “Blade Runner” , not to mention the original anime, where the theme of memories, it says otherwise. It is said that memories play a key role in the formation of personality. The converse statement could pass for an alternative point of view, but not when it is preceded by a banal, simple and predictable story. This is the same if Vasily from 7 “A” stated in the affirmative that the Earth is flat. The statement is strong, but few will believe it.
I highly recommend the “NextGen” cartoon from Netflix. The cartoon is 10 times cheaper than its Disney counterparts, while it looks prettier and much more soulful. And yes, this is cyberpunk for the little ones.
Nevertheless, we will return to this thesis later, but for now we will begin to do approximately the same as in the previous analysis – observe the actions of the characters, in parallel with this, noticing interesting nuances.
The opening scene of the birth of Mira Killian ( Motoko Kusanagi performed by Scarlett Johansson ) almost completely repeats a similar scene from the anime, without offering anything new. The semantic load remains identical and does not contradict the new history in any way. The main motive is the birth of the main character through the assembly of the cybertel. There is nothing to add here.
What is the first thing a newborn sees? Besides the obstetrician, of course. And from whom can he learn about his past, which was lost a few years after birth?
The following scene acquaints the viewer with the key persons of this story – with Dr. Uelet and Cutter , the head of the Khanka company.Dr. Uelett explains to the newly “assembled” Mira (a born child) that she almost died, and that they managed to transplant her brain into a synthetic body, and already behind the scenes, watching the girl’s reaction to this discovery, Cutter says that his project will take up service in the Ninth Section as a weapon. The doctor insists that this decision is erroneous, because an ordinary car will come down to carry out orders. In other words, the head of the Khanka corporation expects from the new project a clear fulfillment of the assigned tasks (!) And obedience (!), When Uelet sees stupidity in this.Be that as it may, Mira nevertheless enters the service in the Ninth Section, and the action flows smoothly to the next scene, dropping somewhere off-screen a period of time a year. Cutter got what he wanted.
Next. Mira (already Major) stands on the roof of a skyscraper and reports to Aramaki Sanu, his direct superior, about the presence of an unknown echo box, with the help of which the attacker eavesdrops on the employee of “Hanki”.After a few seconds, the character notices that terrorists have broken into the building and asks about reinforcements. The reinforcements, led by Bato , will need two minutes to be in place. And then the first full-fledged action of the main character takes place – realizing that people are in danger and that Bato will not be in time in time, Mira decides to immediately take the initiative into her own hands and single-handedly deal with the terrorists. Aramaki forbids her to do this, because there are risks of losing a valuable employee, but the world does not care. She brings her plans to life – she jumps from a building, deals with hacked geisha and armed bandits. What really happened? She did not obey (!) The order of her direct superior, putting people’s lives as a priority.
In the same scene, when reinforcements have already arrived and the intruders are defeated, Mira begins to react painfully to her nature, noting the similarity of her body to that of a robot. Here I would also like to stop a little and put a couple of dots above the “and”. The point is that there is a justification for such a reaction, but the problem is different. This excuse will be given towards the end of the film and not in direct text. What does this lead to? The viewer here and now sees the so-called “snot” – the action of the character, showing that he is bad, but not having sufficient grounds for the viewer to believe it. In a specific example, this is aggravated by the fact that the relationship between Mira’s real age and such a reaction to the situation is not obvious. This is already a puncture of the director, because what he had conceived in reality was perceived differently. At the moment when the veil of secrecy is slightly opened and the viewer learns that Mira is a teenager and that she is characterized by infantilism, it was necessary to remind the viewer at least with brief flashes of flashbacks that her “childishness” (!) Throughout the entire story was manifested. And that her radical difference from other people, which makes her lonely, is due to her age. Otherwise, it turns out as it did with Rupert Sanders. Just some kind of incomprehensible snot.Just some incomprehensible outbursts of anger. Although it could have been fixed with a five to ten second insert. The magic of editing.
Many have noticed that Scarlett Johansson plays her role in the film in a somewhat strange way, with a stooped gait and incomprehensible facial expressions. Most likely, either the actress herself quickly picked up the importance of acting out infantilism, or the task was set by the director.
Dotting the “and” broke the narrative a bit, but let’s assume that none of this has happened yet. Next scene. The plot advances, giving important information for itself. For example, we learn that Mira has glitches, that the attack on the Hanka employees was not the only one. This does not interest us now. First of all, the dialogue between Mira and Aramaki is important here, in which the first, realizing her mistake, says that she will correct herself, that in the future she will do what is required of her (!).Contrary to her expectations, Aramaki does not scold her. He only reminds that she is a valuable employee, and, quote:
“When we see our uniqueness as a virtue, only then will we find peace.”
This, of course, is not about world peace, although the phrase can be interpreted from this point of view.Aramaki’s words are aimed at the world of one person within himself. I will not keep any intrigue here, because everyone has seen the film and everyone understands perfectly well that it contains the motives of self-identification and self-knowledge. You don’t need to be a film critic to do this. I’ll just say that words are appropriate and have a connection with the narrative.
Finally, the viewer is given the opportunity to learn something about Bato – Mira’s partner and friend.Bato, having received a certain task, in between times decides to visit his four-legged friends, dogs. Since Mira was also sent with him, an interesting dialogue is obtained between them, demonstrating the different points of view of the characters on the same situation. Bato says that dogs love him and he loves dogs. Their love is just mutual. To which Mira replies: “Because you feed them.” “Heartless,” he replies. This difference of opinion shows how Mira is not only physically, but also in her head, mathematical and far from other people, unlike Bato. This alignment of things is directly related to her loneliness, which she will talk about later, and with the still unformed personality. She has not yet cognized herself, and therefore does not understand even such simple things, albeit rather logical ones. In general, this difference of opinion seems to me very symbolic and metacontextual, because here Bato is easily projected onto the film itself, when, as Mira’s position, more logical and mathematical, is close to the position of the original film. Of course, without malice or reproach from the youngsters, but just “New Gits” is more everyday.Plain.
This is followed by a small scene in which Mira, recovering her hand from injuries, communicates with Dr. Uelet. Just two things to note. First, their dialogue is very similar to the dialogue between a daughter and a mother, where the second explains that “no, your girlfriends love you, you are the same as them, you are no worse, you are not alone”. I have a bad idea of such a dialogue, because I myself was not a daughter, but I think you understand the context. She just hangs noodles on her ears so that her daughter calms down. Secondly, before removing the glitches that interfere with Mira, Uelet asks her permission. As we will find out later, this procedure is formal and Mira has no real choice (!). In the same scene, the main character is just talking about what we went through in the previous paragraph – about the lack of connection with the outside world. This connection, as we have already found out with the example of dogs, Bato has.
Scene of immersion in a geisha. In addition to trampling the story path, it is important to understand what Mira is doing. Once again, realizing the risks, remembering her importance for Aramaki, she attempts to immerse herself in the consciousness of the machine, thereby opening her mind to the antagonist. In other words, she does what she is forbidden to do (!). Nevertheless, with the help of Mira, the Ninth Section found clues and went to catch Kujo, the very antagonist. The attempt was unsuccessful. Moreover, Bato lost his eyes, and Mira lost half of the cyber body. Parental thrashing from Uelet is guaranteed. And after the parental “Uhhh, you can’t do that, don’t stick your fingers in the socket”, the storyline with the dogs continues. Bato, having received the canonical prosthetic eyes, is embarrassed to visit his friends, and therefore asks his iron friend about it. The girlfriend copes with the task. The connection with the outside world is formed in small steps. Moreover, please note. Why does Bato hesitate to do something that has never caused problems for him? Having changed his eyes, he, above all for himself, changed. And such a partial and, of course, temporary rejection of oneself is already making itself felt. This arc ends when, towards the end of the film, the viewer sees that Bato was not only able to recover to his previous rhythm, but also did something more – he sheltered the dogs.
Mira, I must say, got a taste, like a walking girl. The experience of “communicating” with dogs gave her the impetus she needed to try to understand herself and those around her. And the scene with the prostitute, when Mira examines her eyelids, face and wrinkles, is this very attempt. There was also a kiss in the trailer (the oldies won’t lie), but in the final version it was no longer there. We can only assume that initially there was some kind of sexual implication – defining oneself in terms of gender. The subtext did not disappear here either, but it ceased to be pronounced. And, it is necessary to throw a couple of stones into the director’s garden, it would be better if there was a kiss, because the film has some problems with focusing attention and expressing key things for the story.
After there is a massive plot block, where, as it turns out, Kudze killed another employee of the “Hanka” in order to find information about project 2571, where he is trying to kill Dr. Uelet, where he breaks into the scavengers, etc. This, again, is not important for analysis. We can only note a certain “breakdown” of Mira, when she beats the hacked scavenger. Again, infantilism, “childishness”, but we also take into account the fact of who Dr. Uelet is for her, that is, her mother. And such a beating can be interpreted as an attempt to secure the life of a loved one in the future and a collision with a situation that is truly stressful for a particular character.
For the record, I will retell further events.Kujo catches Mira, she learns that she has some common past with him, that “Hanka”, in fact, are not who they appear to be. Under the pretext that Major was hacked by a terrorist, Cutter decides to catch her, dispose of and continue making a “more obedient” (!) Cyborg. At this point, by the way, the Uelet story arc ends. Instead of obeying the evil dad and killing her daughter, she gives Mira answers to her questions. It can be said that it lets her into adulthood at the moment when she is ready to accept it.For this, unfortunately, the doctor had to pay with his own blood. It is possible to interpret the significance of such a death for the main character, but not here, but further.
The key to the past of Mira is called “Avalon”. Naturally, such a name could not be just for beauty, so I went to the Internet to look for an answer, on Wikipedia. In general, according to myths and legends, Avalon is the island on which King Arthur was reburied. How does this relate to narrative? Well, for Mira, Avalon is the place of rebirth, because here she meets the real mother, when, as a representation of the past mother, she dies with Uelet. And the scene touches. Not just me. My friends who watched the film most often singled out this very scene, the scene of the reunion of the mother and daughter. And the merit of this is entirely the director. Some might say that the event itself is exciting, but I can cite as an example the movie Captain Marvel , where there was a similar scene in which Carol has lost her memory personally met with a friend from a forgotten past.Literally no one cared. And then don’t give a damn, but we are not talking about directing now and we will not analyze this nuance in detail (in short, the infantilism of the main character played a big role in this. Despite the fact that two adult women are communicating in the frame, the viewer subconsciously understands that Mira still a child).
According to the plot, it turns out that Mira’s name is Motoko, that in her past life she was that rebel (!) And often quarreled with her mother (!).Her mother says so:
Smart readers have probably already understood what I was driving at and what I was driving at. No wonder Motoko is a child in the body of an adult woman. All the way the character, from A to Z, she does two things: rebel and tries to achieve the truth. Literally what every child does is act up and try to understand this world. Only with age do children understand that our mom and dad were not bad when they did not buy us a new “Bionicle”.Only with age do we begin to more or less understand ourselves and those around us. As we mature a little, we start thinking about girls or boys; we are wondering what kind of “eyelids” it is for girls; and living through a transitional age, we become simply unbearable. We sink into the water (we withdraw into ourselves, as in the film) and reproach all living things for all mortal sins (Bato sailed after Mira to kill her, and not to support and save a friend). The entire arc of the Mira Killian character is the path of abstract growing up of a child, acceptance of the people around him and himself, and the search for a connection with this world.
But that’s not all. The question with memories remained open. So why don’t they define a person? Let’s start with the fact that formation and definition are different concepts. Memories and experiences are from the same opera. The problem here is that films mean different things under the same terms. Other paintings consider memories precisely as a kind of human experience, when as “New Gits” interprets the concept literally, dragging its meaning into a more everyday channel.Yes, yes, like Bato in the scene with the dogs.
The point is that the memories in this film are strongly associated with something algorithmic, programmatic, with some kind of prescription. For example, when Miru is asked her consent to erasing her memory, or when she is asked to be submissive and do only what she is told. You wondered what kind of exclamation mark is on the key points of the text? In addition, the way Cutter tried to suppress free will in Motoko is the memories associated with the terrorist attack in order to motivate the character to fight the terrorists more effectively.Precisely in this case, in conditions when the soul is locked in armor, the very humanity that was discussed at the beginning of the material manifests itself. The essence of Motoko, as her mother says, is rebellion. She is essentially a rebel, unbridled (maybe only because of her age), and her character simply made itself felt even under the thickness of false memories aimed at extinguishing human will. And the climactic choice, when Kujo and Major lie together, is irrelevant in its essence. The important thing is that whatever Motoko chooses, it will be her choice. The choice is at her will, unlike “I am Mira Killian, I give my consent …”
The place where Motoko lived and where the final battle takes place is called the Defiant Zone.
This is how films sometimes surprise you, which, as it seemed to you, you know up and down. With all of the above understanding, a lot of dialogue takes on a second meaning.
