A pioneering school in Bay Area lacrosse, Menlo boys’ lacrosse holds a 19-5 record in league play during the last three seasons (2014-2017). The team has reached the finals of the PAL playoffs in each of its first six years of existence and won three championship titles 2004-2006. The Knights competed in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League in 2010 and promptly won two titles in 2010 and 2011. Boys’ lacrosse is one of the most popular athletic programs offered at Menlo School and consistently finishes near the top of the CCS academic team competition.

Kim brings more than 30 years of lacrosse experience – as a player and coach to Menlo. He served as head coach for two seasons at Sacred Heart Prep, and directed the Gators to a 29-9 record in 2011 and 2012 before leaving to focus on his full-time job at a lacrosse manufacturing company in Santa Cruz County. In 2011, he was named the U.S. Lacrosse High School Coach of the Year for Northern California. He has been coaching with Firehawks Lacrosse in various capacities – as a head coach or assistant coach – since 2010. His international experience spans from his playing days to the present. He was a member of the Korean National Lacrosse team at the World Championships in 2002, and has a coached at numerous camps and clinics worldwide. Fundraiser for Shan Kim by David Park : Rest in Peace Blake

Hi Friends,

As you may know our favorite Jindo, Blake, was put to rest on April 6th. For those that knew Blake and those that maybe just met him once know that he was such a sweet, loving, and happy boy. He definitely was shy to new faces, but he was always just playing hard to get. 😉

We all know he was the most loyal to his best buddy, Shan, making sure he was in eyesight at all times. Whether Shan was gone for a few minutes or a couple days, Blake always greeted him with the utmost excitement like he hadn’t seen him for weeks.

Blake had always been a healthy boy, so it was concerning when one day we noticed his upper lip twitching randomly and his head & neck being in some sort of discomfort. We took him to the vet where he underwent anesthesia to extract a cracked tooth and treat a mild ear infection. We were hopeful that this was what was causing his discomfort and took him home to recover. Unfortunately, his health started to decline and he suddenly started to lose his vision. Within a couple days he became completely blind and overall started losing strength in his entire body. We took him to a neurologist who diagnosed him with hypertension due to extremely high blood pressure and provided medication to treat it. What we thought would be a one trip to the hospital soon turned into many over the next several days. Blake started to have several seizures– some mild and some severe. Due to his seizures he was hospitalized overnight twice. More tests were done on Blake, but the doctors couldn’t figure out why he was having seizures seeing that his blood pressure had stabilized and organs were healthy. The next steps would have been to do an MRI, but going under anesthesia again was too risky for Blake. By this point Blake’s condition was not improving and his health was declining fast.

Time was not on Blake’s side so Shan and his family had to make the tremendously difficult and painful decision to put Blake down. What mattered most was to do what was best for Blake which was to free him of his suffering and further suffering if he were to continue with more testing and treatment. Blake was brought home on Monday, April 5th, so that his family could spend time with him.  He ate his favorite steak meal and was surrounded by his loved ones. In the afternoon of April 6th after giving his last kisses to Shan, Blake went peacefully in Shan’s arms.

Shan is overwhelmed by the outpour of love and support he has received from family and friends. He is surprised to know of all the different ways Blake had left a special impact on each person. Shan did all that he could for Blake with the time and resources he was given. Animal hospital bills are no small feat so any donation would be of great help to Shan. He appreciates any support whether that’s keeping Blake in your thoughts or contributing any amount to Blake’s hospital bills. No amount of how big or small will go unnoticed and will help Shan tremendously.  

All of your support has meant so much to Shan and has helped him get through this difficult time. Thank you so much for loving Blake all these years.

Kim Blake joins Next Gen Skills campaign

Kim Blake has joined the Next Gen Skills campaign talent development co-ordinator to help bring recommendations made in the Next Gen report to fruition.

The post has been jointly funded by Ukie and Creative Skillset, and Blake will work with the game industry and educators to help improve the amount of talent in the games and visual effects industries.

Blake has worked at Blitz Games Studios since 2005, most recently working as senior events and education co-ordinator, and has also previously worked at other developers such as Headfirst Productions, Argonaut Sheffield and Gremlin Interactive.

The Next Gen Skills organisation is devoted to pushing for improvements in the UK education system, with a view to equip future generations of programmers with the skills needed to drive high-tech growth nationally.

The body played a key role in getting computer science onto the curriculum as a replacement for IT, and was recently added to the English baccalaureate as the fourth science.

Although the EBacc certificates that were set to replace some GCSEs are expected to be dropped today, computer science is still counted as one of the EBacc performance measure options.

“I am incredibly excited to have been given the opportunity to work with Ukie and Creative Skillset on the development and promotion of next gen skills,” said Blake.

“So many people are doing excellent work in this area; I’m really looking forward to working with them all to maximise awareness of the careers available, the skills needed and the opportunities that are already out there, as well as helping to foster communication between existing and new initiatives.”

George Blake, notorious cold war double agent, dies aged 98 | Espionage

The former British spy and Soviet Union double agent George Blake has died at the age of 98.

The RIA news agency reported that Blake died in Russia, citing the country’s SVR foreign intelligence agency. “We received some bitter news – the legendary George Blake passed away,” it said.

Blake was the last in a line of British spies to operate secretly for the Soviet Union, exposing the identities of hundreds of western agents across eastern Europe in the 1950s and humiliating the intelligence establishment when his work was discovered at the height of the cold war.

Some of the agents Blake exposed were executed as a result of his treason, making him one of the most notorious double agents of the era, alongside the ring of double agents known as the Cambridge Five.

When Blake’s cover was blown in 1961, he was sentenced to 42 years’ imprisonment in London’s Wormwood Scrubs. He escaped in 1966 with the help of other inmates and two activists, and was smuggled out of the UK in a camper van.

After making it across the iron curtain into East Berlin undiscovered, he spent the rest of his life in the Soviet Union, now Russia, where he was feted as a hero.

In an interview with Reuters in Moscow in 1991, Blake said he had believed communism was “an ideal which, if it could have been achieved, would have been well worth it. I thought it could be, and I did what I could to help it, to build such a society. It has not proved possible. But I think it is a noble idea and I think humanity will return to it.”

Born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 1922 to a Dutch mother and an Egyptian Jewish father who was a naturalised Briton, he escaped from the Netherlands in the second world war and reached Britain in January 1943. After joining the British navy, he started working for the British Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, in 1944.

After the war, Blake read Russian at Cambridge University before being sent in 1948 to Seoul where he gathered intelligence on communist North Korea, China and the Soviet far east.

He was captured and imprisoned when North Korean troops took Seoul after the Korean war began in 1950, becoming a committed communist during his imprisonment.

After his release in 1953 he returned to the UK, and in 1955 he was sent by MI6 to Berlin, where he collected information on Soviet spies but also passed secrets to Moscow about British and US operations.

Blake, who went by the Russian name Georgy Ivanovich, was awarded a medal by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in 2007 and received a pension from the former KGB security service.

“These are the happiest years of my life, and the most peaceful,” Blake said in the 2012 interview marking his 90th birthday.

He did not express regret about his past. “Looking back on my life, everything seems logical and natural,” he said, describing himself as happy and lucky.

The Soviet intelligence officer, former MI6 intelligence officer George Blake died of natural causes. This is reported by rg.ru with reference to the head of the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Ivanov.

According to him, Blake’s blood pressure has risen sharply. The doctors were able to normalize the well-being of the man. One ex-intelligence officer became ill again and a few minutes later he died.

Earlier it became known that Blake passed away at the age of 98.

George Blake was born on November 11, 1922 in Rotterdam (Netherlands). In 1942 he moved to England. In August 1944 he was transferred to the Dutch section of British intelligence MI6.

In 1948, Blake was appointed MI6 resident in Seoul, he was supposed to collect information about the Soviet Far East, Primorye, Siberia, Manchuria. In the spring of 1951, during the Korean War, Blake, through a Korean officer, handed over a note to the USSR embassy with a request to arrange a meeting with a representative of foreign intelligence.At those meetings, Blake offered his cooperation to Soviet intelligence and provided valuable information about the British intelligence services.

After the signing of the armistice in Korea in 1953, Blake returned to London and continued to work at MI6 headquarters, he passed on to Moscow information about the British Ministry of War and information about the level of awareness of the British and Americans in the military secrets of the USSR.

Later, the CIA became aware of Blake’s activities. In 1961 he was arrested and sentenced to 42 years in prison.Four years later, he was helped to escape from prison. In 1965 he moved through Berlin to Moscow.

George Blake was promoted to Colonel of Foreign Intelligence. In addition, he has received numerous awards for his work.

In the intelligence school, the future MI6 officer and secret KGB agent George Blake was called “not inspiring confidence” and “completely unprepared for a responsible position to which he could be sent. “Why did such a review of the course director not prevent the young man from being selected for the UK Secret Intelligence Service?

The BBC has seen a new piece of declassified archival data about one of the most famous double agents in British history.

The most important part of the released documents is the report of Lord Radcliffe, who, after the arrest of George Blake, was instructed to conduct a full-scale investigation of the personal file and all connections of the Soviet agent.

Radcliffe drew attention to the description of Blake, written by the head of the training course for future MI6 officers.

“There is no confidence in its reliability and purposefulness, but there is no evidence to the contrary either. Temperamental, receptive, unremarkable, does not behave like British at all,” the description says.

“Needs to be strictly guided. It is felt that he is completely unprepared for the difficult position to which he is going to be sent. Does not show the qualities usually inherent in representatives of the Secret Intelligence Service, “- summed up the head of the training.

Despite such a recall from his immediate supervisor, Blake was enrolled in MI6 and soon sent to work in Korea.

” There is no evidence that the report was the occasion for an immediate review of Blake’s enrollment, “said Lord Radcliffe, who analyzed Blake’s personal file. MI6 made the mistake of hiring Blake, he added in his report.

A good friend of Blake, MI6 officer Kim Philby, also secretly working for the KGB, once said in an interview: “To betray, one must first belong. I never belonged.” Studied at an elite school and prestigious Cambridge, Philby may have been playing a trick when he hinted that he had never belonged to British culture and establishment.

But Blake could be quite honest when he said the same words. Judging by the spy’s biography, his heart has never belonged to any one country. George (at birth he bore the surname Behar) was born in Rotterdam in the family of an Egyptian Jew and a Dutch woman – an active parishioner of the Protestant Church.

Blake’s father, Albert, received a British passport for serving in the British army during World War I and named his only son after the English king.

George began his covert operations early.When the boy was 17 years old, he began cycling around the Netherlands, carrying secret messages to members of the resistance movement against the Nazis. In 1943, the situation became too dangerous, and George made the first (but not the last) escape in his life.

Through the occupied territories of France and Spain, the guy moved to England, where he changed his name Behar to Blake, and volunteered for the Royal Navy. Blake soon became interested in MI6 – he knew several languages ​​and already had experience working underground.

After studying at the training school, Blake, despite the sometimes negative description of the head of the course, was enrolled in the intelligence service and in 1948 was sent to Korea. Soon a war broke out in the country between the South, which was supported by the countries of the West, and the North, which relied on the help of the USSR.

This year the details of Blake’s interview, which he gave to the Dutch journalist Simon Cooper in Moscow back in 2012, finally became known. In the last years of his life, the former double agent rarely spoke with Western journalists.He spoke with Cooper on the condition that the text of this interview would be published in English only after Blake’s death.

Judging by the declassified MI6 documents, the voluminous transcripts intercepted by the British and Americans did not bring them any particularly important new information. The essence of the knowledge gained was reduced to one thing: the USSR did not plan an invasion of West Berlin.But Western intelligence already knew about this from other sources.

In Great Britain, it is believed that Blake handed over to Soviet intelligence the names of about 600 agents who collaborated with Western intelligence services in Eastern Europe. As it became known now, among them were at least 42 British agents who were arrested by the KGB, tortured and then shot.

Blake has always denied that the death of these people was a consequence of his actions. But this painful issue is still being discussed in the British press.In a conversation with Cooper, Blake named the executed agents as victims of the war.

One of Blake’s tasks at MI6 was to find people of interest to British intelligence in East Germany and persuade them to work secretly against their state.

Between the moral resilience of the hero of our book, Klaus Fuchs, a man who is convinced that the monopoly of aggressive forces with deadly weapons is dangerous for the fate of the world, and who deliberately transferred to the USSR some of the secrets of the atomic bomb, ostracized for “betraying the interests of the West”, silently suffering due to misunderstanding, who died unknown in the country for which he made sacrifices; proud loneliness of Kim Philby, who found himself in an unfamiliar environment, where he was sometimes forgotten and not always understood, disappointed, but believed to the end in the triumph of ideas of goodness and justice, and those whose actions were determined not by high, humanistic ideals, adherence to certain ideas, but exclusively selfish considerations – an insurmountable moral abyss. And we must not forget about it.

Some modern authors somehow come out that convinced supporters of our country could only be fanatics, or deceived, or careerists.

But there are also those who will say: the conviction of the heroes of our book is nothing but the inability to understand new realities and the true truth about the social structure of the world and the ways of its improvement. Yes, a difficult, crucial, critical time is now going through a country with which more than fifty years ago Kim Philby once and for all tied his destiny and which became his second homeland.In many ways, he passed away disappointed, but he never regretted his choice until the very last days.

And did the moral feat of Klaus Fuchs, who selflessly worked in the name of the humanistic ideals he professed, who lived a difficult but honest life according to the highest moral standards, became less because of this?

The heroes of our book did not live in the light of “guidelines and resolutions”, but in the spirit of the ideals of brotherhood, humanity and service to people, with all their life and deeds they strove to affirm these ideals on earth.
