After gay slur, Andre Fili believes Conor McGregor was ‘fake’ with him
First things first: Andre Fili leaves no doubt where he stands on the words Conor McGregor chose to describe him on Saturday.
McGregor, the UFC’s biggest star, was caught on camera repeatedly referring to Fili by a gay slur after Fili scored a one-sided win over McGregor’s teammate, Artem Lobov, in a featherweight bout at UFC Gdansk.
The video was deleted and neither the UFC nor McGregor have offered official comment, but the damage was done, and word got back to Fili.
“There’s no need to use words like that,” Fili told MMA Fighting on Tuesday in a phone interview from Poland. “You don’t need to demean other people to make yourself seem bigger. Whenever you hear someone use that word or call someone a ‘bitch,’ that makes you look so insecure.”
But Fili also takes issue with the UFC’s biggest star for another reason: He feels McGregor was being phony with him.
McGregor made a spectacle of himself at Ergo Arena in Gdansk, arriving on the arena floor to a giant ovation. Referee Marc Goddard eventually had to tell him to back off when he caused a commotion cageside during the fight.
“That fired me right up,” Fili said. “He tried to stare me down and I locked eyes with him and did not back down. He started quoting Notorious B.I.G. lyrics and I just laughed. I was just like ‘not tonight, motherf*cker.’ That’s why I did his ‘billionaire strut’ and everything.”
Fili poured it onto Lobov during the fight, nearly finishing him with a head kick in the opening round and leaving no doubt who was the better fighter in his unanimous decision victory.
“There’s nothing like kicking someone’s ass with their best friend watching on in their corner,” Fili said. “Conor did me a big favor. I was already ready to go but he made me turn it up another level.”
After the fight, Fili and McGregor talked in the Octagon, and the Team Alpha Male fighter thought things were settled.
“I told him it was all about the fight, what happened in the fight stayed there, and that I respected him,” Fili said. “I thought we were cool. I meant it, too. I know having Conor in the middle of my fight means I get way more attention, I have more Twitter and Instagram followers now and I’ll make more money. I know what he’s done to lift the sport.
“But then, while I’m doing my interview, unbeknownst to me, he’s in the back calling me that word, while I’m in the cage doing my interview,” Fili said. “Then when I’m in back getting my medicals done, Conor walks up to me and he shakes my hand and tells me he respects me and that we had a bond because of The Ultimate Fighter (the season in which Fili was an assistant coach for Urijah Faber against McGregor’s team) and I told him I respected him.”
That was that, until word reached Fili about the controversy.
“Don’t be fake with me,” Fili said. “I’m as real a person as you’re going to meet. You’re always going to know where you stand with me. For him to say what he said and then turn right around and act like we’re cool, that’s so fake.”
While the interaction with McGregor ended up on a sour note, there was little else that went wrong for Fili in Poland. Fili wanted to shake off a bad performance at UFC 214 against Calvin Kattar and asked to get right back into the cage.
Other than having to fight off jet lag going from the West Coast to Eastern Europe, Fili was happy with his performance, which gave him two victories in his past three fights.
“Artem was tough, I’ll give him that,” Fili said. “When I hit him with the head kick [late in the first round] I probably should have followed up and tried to finish the fight, but that’s easy to say in hindsight. In the third round, yeah, I decided to change the game plan and take it to the mat because I was feeling tired, I started feeling the time difference. But I feel like in doing that I showed I was better than him in every aspect of the game.”
Fili took a few days off after the fight to spend time with friends in Poland, and got a new tattoo, too: A rendering of The Grinch. But while he’s enjoying his win, he already has a next opponent in mind: The “Korean Superboy,” Doo Ho Choi, a bout originally scheduled for UFC 214 before Choi pulled out with an injury.
“I was fired up for that fight,” Fili said. “I’m calling him out, but I mean it in a respectful way. He’s a great talent and I think our styles will bring the best out of each other. I hope the UFC makes this fight.”
Andre Fili vs. Daniel Pineda – UFC Vegas 30 Preview
UFC Vegas 30 will be headlined by Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov this weekend. Also on the card, a featherweight bout between Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda will take place right in the middle of the main card. Both men will be looking to get another win and move up in the featherweight rankings. Check out our full main card breakdown podcast below!
Andre Fili (21-8)
Andre Fili will be coming into this fight following his decision loss to Bryce Mitchell in October. Fili went 1-2 in 2020, also losing a decision to Sodiq Yusuff. His one win of 2020 was a unanimous decision over Charles Jourdain. Andre Fili has finished 12 of his 21 wins with nine of those wins being knockouts. He has a UFC record of 9-7, winning two performance bonuses in that time. He has key UFC wins over Myles Jury, Sheymon Moraes, Dennis Bermudez, and Artem Lobov. Andre Fili has been fighting for the UFC since 2013 and prior to that even fought a few fights or Tachi Palace Fights.
Andre Fili has always been known to have great striking and even better cardio. Winning nine of his 21 wins by decision. Only seven of Fili’s 21 wins being finished in the first round. Fili will come into this fight with Pineda with a four-inch height and a four-inch reach advantage. Fili has had a back and forth UFC career and will need to string together a series of wins if he hopes to climb the featherweight ranks once again.
Daniel Pineda (27-14-2)
Daniel Pineda is back with the UFC after a short stint with the company from 2012-2014. Since returning he is 1-1 defeating Herbert Burns and losing to Cub Swanson in his most recent fight. Both of Pineda’s no contests were wins he scored in the PFL that were overturned because he failed a drug test. 18 of Pineda’s 27 wins come by submissions and nine of those wins are by knockout. Giving him a 100% finish rate in his wins. Although he is currently 0-5 when the fight goes to a decision.
Pineda is a black belt in jiujitsu and has a lot of power in his hands. He is most dangerous in the first couple of rounds. If Pineda comes into this fight with much-improved cardio he could be a big problem for Fili.

Andre Fili Breaks His Silence After Being Called A F****t By Conor McGregor
Team Alpha Male’s Andre Fili put on a dominant performance at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 118. Beating out Conor McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov by unanimous decision, the fighter appears to have gotten to “Notorious.”
Following the event, McGregor was caught on camera backstage attempting to console his defeated teammate. However, McGregor then referred to Fili by a gay slur.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Andre Fili has now come forward with a response.
“There’s no need to use words like that. You don’t need to demean other people to make yourself seem bigger. Whenever you hear someone use that word or call someone a ‘bitch,’ that makes you look so insecure.”
Speaking on Conor McGregor’s cage side presence at the event, Fili added:
“That fired me right up. He tried to stare me down and I locked eyes with him and did not back down. He started quoting Notorious B.I.G. lyrics and I just laughed. I was just like ‘not tonight, motherf*cker.’ That’s why I did his ‘billionaire strut’ and everything.”
“There’s nothing like kicking someone’s ass with their best friend watching on in their corner. Conor did me a big favor. I was already ready to go but he made me turn it up another level.”
Fili then revealed that he and McGregor actually spoke after the fight.
“I told him it was all about the fight, what happened in the fight stayed there, and that I respected him. I thought we were cool.
Once Fili learned about McGregor’s statement, the fighter had something else to say.
“Don’t be fake with me. I’m as real a person as you’re going to meet. You’re always going to know where you stand with me. For him to say what he said and then turn right around and act like we’re cool, that’s so fake.”
Chick-fil-A Bowl: Andre Ellington Will Be Crucial Key for Clemson vs. LSU | Bleacher Report
Streeter Lecka/Getty Images
The Clemson Tigers have a hoard of talented offensive skill players, but against the other Tigers of LSU, Andre Ellington will be the most important of all of them.
Simply put, Les Miles’ squad will turn the Chick-fil-A Bowl into a classic SEC battle. It will slow the game down, grind it out in the trenches, rely on its defense and make it an ugly affair that you probably don’t want to watch.
When you have players like Kevin Minter, Sam Montgomery, Anthony Johnson and Barkevious Mingo—who all help make up one of the most ferocious front sevens in the country—it’s pretty simple to play that kind of menacing style.
Unfortunately for Clemson, which likes to speed the game up and score touchdowns like they’re going out of style, slowing the pace of a football game is much easier to do than quickening it.
As such, LSU is going to make things difficult on quarterback Tajh Boyd. The talented junior quarterback is elusive in the pocket and knows how to escape pressure, but he’s never faced pass-rushers like Montgomery and Mingo, who are a large part in LSU ranking 34th in the nation in sacks.
Because of what figures to be defenders in his face all day, Boyd won’t be able to use DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins, who make up arguably the most talented non-USC wide-receiver duo in the nation, as much as he would normally like.
Hopkins and Watkins are too skilled to be shut down completely, but with less time in the pocket, it won’t be easy to use them as deep threats. Just look at Clemson’s recent clash with South Carolina, another hard-nosed SEC team, for proof.
Enter Ellington.
At 5’9″, 190 pounds, the explosive running back doesn’t have ideal size for a running back, but his elusiveness—in between tackles and separating himself from defenders—is second to none.
In short, he’s a home-run threat, but he has proven during his career with the Tigers that he can be relied upon as a workhorse back, as well.
Ellington not only will have to carry a large load in order to open up the passing game, but he’ll have to break open a few of his patented long runs to help tire LSU’s dangerous defenders.
As that one bad guy from Taken would say, “Good luck.”

In a meeting in which the Washington Capitals beat him 5-1 against the New York Rangers, Ovechkin scored four points and with two goals scored a clear fifth spot on the league’s best snipers list.
Circumstances add value to what 36-year-old Alexander Ovechkin did in his home match against the New York Rangers, to which the Washingtonians opened the regular season. He was injured late last week in a preseason game with the Philadelphia Flyers. Her character in the tradition of the NHL was not disclosed, but judging by the difficulty with which the forward left the ice, the damage to the “lower body” was serious. And after the game with the Rangers ended, Peter Laviolett, Washington’s mentor, said that the questions about the club’s captain’s performance were in the morning, that is, a few hours before going on the ice. But Ovechkin was eager to fight – and appeared on the site.
In fact, by the final period, he proved that he was not overcoming pain in vain.Washington were leading with a score of 3: 0, and Alexander Ovechkin recorded two assists. First, his cross through the goalkeeper helped Tijay Oshi to distinguish himself, and then Ovechkin took part in a combination, the point at which was put by Justin Schultz with a biting throw.
But it was during the last period that the main feats of the Russian striker fell. Alexander Ovechkin scored twice in this twenty minutes. The episodes were somewhat similar to each other. Both times, Ovechkin was helped to achieve the desired flair and a surprisingly sharp leap.In the first case, he rushed in the majority on the puck, which flew off the chest of Anthony Manta. She jumped on the ice, but this did not prevent Ovechkin from inflicting a lethal shot, which the Russian Rangers goalkeeper Alexander Georgiev could never cope with. In the second case, Ovechkin’s compatriot Evgeny Kuznetsov threw the puck into the far side, and defender Kay-Andre Miller went to hunt for a rebound along with the leader of Washington. Miller is generally known for skating very well, but he could not oppose Ovechkin’s speed with anything. As well as Georgiev – a trick with which the forward fooled him, finding himself in front of the goalkeeper.
It seems that Alexander Ovechkin’s tone surprised even his partners. One of them – Hendrix Lapierre – then, without hiding his emotions, said that he was shocked by the “fire” in the eyes of his captain: “He is a key factor for us. ”
And shortly after Alexander Ovechkin finished off Georgiev with that trick, during the game pause, the face of the league legend Marcel Dionne, a phenomenal striker from the 1970s and 1980s, which was familiar to NHL fans, suddenly appeared on the scoreboard of the Washington arena. It was a video congratulating Ovechkin on an “incredible achievement” from Dionne: “I knew you would bypass me.” And none of the spectators, of course, needed to explain what was at stake.
Keeping track of the best NHL sniper of all time of this century has been a popular attraction among hockey fans in North America for quite some time. Most of them knew that Alexander Ovechkin, sixth in this classification, had 730 goals scored in the regular season before the start of the season, that he was close to Dionne with 731 goals. And Ovechkin, thanks to the “explosion” in the third period, did not just catch up with him, he bypassed, entering the top five.
Soon, however, since he is in this form, the Russian will, of course, be even higher. His next “victim” is Brett Hull, who has nine goals left. But in the current championship, Ovechkin, if he dispenses with new injuries, may well get to the top three. From the closest Jaromir Jagr, ahead of whom there are only two of the greatest Canadian hockey players in history – Gordy Howe (801 goals) and Wayne Gretzky (894), 34 goals separate him – this is not that a grandiose distance by the standards of a Russian striker, rather a “working” …
But Alexander Ovechkin himself, when after the match with the Rangers he was asked about the sniper race, about the breakthrough into the top five, about the prospects, he did everything to make it clear that statistics are not so important for him: “I just enjoy my time. It’s a great privilege for me to be on this list, but I keep telling myself: you have to live from game to game. ”

The best snipers in NHL history
90,000 2022 Turns: Ovechkin, Yendl, Fleury Build Greatness
Before the start of the new season, starting October 12, NHL. com / ru recalls the historic personal and team milestones and records that can be achieved during this championship, as well as some of those that will have to wait.
OVECHKIN
In recent years, we have become accustomed to the fact that such a selection would be easy to compile from the borders of the Russian captain of “Washington” alone. Let’s start with it, and then talk about the rest.
Video: Ovechkin’s 10 best moments in the 2020-21 season
With 730 career goals, Alexander Ovechkin is sixth in history, but in the upcoming season he may well climb to third place. The next puck will equalize him with Marcel Dionne. Goal # 742 will overtake Brett Hull. Ovechkin’s puck # 767 (his 37th goal of the season) will leave Jaromir Jagr behind.
But the next scoring lines will have to wait. Even while maintaining his current sniper speed (0.61 goals per game), Alexander will not score his 800th goal until the middle of the championship in 2022-23. But, having done this, he will almost immediately be on the second line, bypassing Gordie Howe (801).
The third match of the season (October 19 against Colorado) will be Ovechkin’s 1200th in his career, a milestone that only five active players have passed (Patrick Marlowe, Joe Thornton, Zdeno Hara, Eric Staal and Dustin Brown).Alexander has a chance to score 1400th point, but for this he will need a very productive 80-point season. His last such championship was in 2018-19 (89 points).
Video: The main highlights of Alexander Ovechkin
Finally, there is a category in which Ovechkin can become a leader in his entire history next season. On shots on target (5727), he overtook Jagr (5637) last season and is now second only to the great defender Ray Burke (6209). Ovechkin is the 11-time NHL leader in shots on target, but overcoming the 482 shot deficit in one season is almost impossible even for him.The only time in his career that he has shot more on goal (528 times) was in the 2008-09 season. Over the past decade, his rate has been 330-350 shots per full season.
GOALS
500: Sidney Crosby – The Pittsburgh captain has to score 14 goals to become the 46th NHL player ever to reach this milestone. With the exception of the 2011-12 season, in which Crosby played only 22 games due to injury, he was comfortable overcoming this mark. In 13 of his 16 seasons, Sydney has scored at least 24 goals.
400: Seven forwards have a chance of reaching this number. The most ghostly ones are from John Tavares (364) and Patrice Bergeron (375), but Corey Perry (386), Phil Kessel (391), Zach Parise (393), Joe Pavelski (394) and Jeff Carter (399) will almost certainly cope …
POINTS
1400: Crosby, like Ovechkin, has a good chance if he returns to the ice soon. The Canadian lacks 75 points (five less than the Russian), and he easily overcame this barrier in all 10 seasons in which he played at least 75 matches.
1100: Patrick Kane needs 12 points. This is unlikely to take more than a month.
1000: Three forwards have real chances. Ryan Getzlaf (982) and Niklas Backstrom (980) can handle it for sure. Jason Spezza (970) will have to try hard as he has only scored 30 points in the last four seasons. Finally, Patrice Bergeron (917) will likely have to postpone his triumph until the next championship, as his career has not yet had 80+ point seasons.
IRON MAN
964 matches in a row: This record of Doug Jarvis, who has not missed a single match in his entire career (1975-87), has been in the NHL for three and a half decades. But this season, two people will have a real chance to improve his result. Philadelphia defender Keith Yendl (922) needs to play in the first 43 games, and Arizona striker Phil Kessel (900) – 65. new “iron man” №1.
MATCHES
1700: Joe Thornton, 42, who has moved to Florida, will reach that milestone in his 20th game of the season. But 44-year-old Zdeno Hare (1608 matches), who returned to the “Islanders”, will not even have enough 82-match championship for this.
1000: A group of as many as 16 players is no more than a full season away from the Thousand. First to reach Islanders defender Andy Green (988) and Jets striker Blake Wheeler (981).Evgeny Malkin (940) is also in this group, but due to a long recovery from knee surgery, his chances of playing 60 matches in the upcoming season are still in doubt.
GOALTENDER VICTORIES
500: Marc-André Fleury, traded in the summer in “Chicago”, has only eight winnings left. His 492 wins are the third in league history, behind only Martin Broder (691) and Patrick Roy (551).
COACHING VICTORIES
1000: Florida head coach Joel Kenneville (962-572-150 and 77 draws in 1761) could become the second coach in history after Scotty Bowman (1244 wins). The 63-year-old specialist has 38 matches left to win.
900: Barry Trotz (877-635-158 with 60 draws in 1730 games) will achieve this goal with 23 wins. Before him, only Bowman and Kenneville had succeeded. By the way, both Trotz and Kenneville have every chance to play their 1800th career matches this season.

Alisa Freundlich. Full version | Blogger mashilda_glam_bestofthebest on SPLETNIK.RU February 14, 2021
I think there are few people in our country who do not know the name of Alisa Freundlich, have no idea how she looks and have not seen any of her work either in the theater or in the cinema. If suddenly there are such among us, then a short biography:
Alisa Freundlich is the daughter of the famous actor of the Pushkin Theater Bruno Freundlich.Immediately after graduating from the Leningrad Theater Institute in 1957, she was accepted into the troupe of the Leningrad Theater Institute named after I. Komissarzhevskaya, where she began her creative career. Two years later, there she was noticed by the guest director Igor Vladimirov, who then constantly worked at the Lensovet Theater. In 1959, he staged the play “Time to Love” at the Komissarzhevskaya Theater and selected yesterday’s student Alisa Freundlich, who had no leading roles before, for the main role. After this premiere, other Leningrad directors immediately noticed her and began vying to invite her to their theaters.Already at the end of the same season, Alisa Freundlich leaves the theater. Komissarzhevskaya – marries Igor Vladimirov, who had just been appointed chief director of the Lensovet Theater, and goes on stage under his leadership, where he will shine for more than 20 years until the divorce from the director and the subsequent transition in the 80s to the BDT named after I. Tovstonogov, where she continues to serve to this day. People’s Artist, winner of the Stanislavsky Prize and dozens of awards for theatrical and film works.
Adventures of a dentist (1965)
The first film in the selection is the work of dir.Elem Klimova. Cast: Andrey Myagkov, Vera Vasilyeva, Alisa Freindlikh, Panteleimon Krymov, Igor Kvasha, Olga Gobozeva and others. This black-and-white film with its genre reminds of “Ivan Vasilyevich changes his profession” – this is also a comedy with light elements of fiction, albeit without travel in time, but with visual special effects, so to speak :)))
Although Elem Klimov actively filmed during the Soviet years, officials saw in this film a parody of Soviet reality (and it is really very noticeable), the film was ordered to be “forgotten”, censorship even removed it from Klimov’s directorial filmography for many years.
Plot: a young dentist Chesnokov (Andrey Myagkov) after graduation comes to a provincial town to work in a local clinic. Suddenly it turns out that the dentist has superpowers – he can remove teeth from patients absolutely imperceptibly and painlessly, even without anesthesia! Naturally, the queues of those wishing to see the magic doctor immediately began to line up, the whole town worships the young unusually gifted dentist. But each Mozart has his own Salieri, Chesnokov also quickly found envious people. And now the second more experienced dentist – Rubakhin – leaves the city away, unable to withstand the competition with the young genius, and the dentist Lastochkina turns out to be more cunning – she decides to keep Chesnokova out of the city with her intrigues.
By the way, this film is the first role of Andrey Myagkov in a movie. In this film, he is extremely charming, he looks like a perfect boy, but there is still a sea of charm, as well as in his most famous roles – well, I could not help but mention! I look forward to the upcoming Misa post about Andrei Myagkov.
By the way, this was not the first film for the heroine of the post – she began acting as a student in 1955. But on the other hand, this is the first film where we see Alisa Freindlich singing and playing the guitar! Yes, yes, she herself performed three songs (and the first of them opens the film, a close-up of Alice’s singing face accompanies all the opening credits!), She accompanied herself, she was not re-dubbed and the voices of famous singers were not used. Here is one of these songs:
Freundlich plays in the film, not to say that the main role – here Vera Vasilyeva is more likely to lead as the main antagonist and adversary of Chesnokov-Myagkov.Alisa Brunovna plays Masha, the daughter of the director of a local school, a young young lady who is an activist of local amateur performances and an aspiring actress with a blond head and an excellent voice, who is preparing for the wedding, but an inappropriately sore tooth changes her plans and even her fate. Well, see for yourself – isn’t it lovely?
The main theme of this film is the oppression of the system, which kills everything living, unique, special in a person – talent, enthusiasm, an original approach, non-trivial thinking. The system in the form of bureaucrats and hookers, politicians demanding that you support the struggle of some against others with your name, disgusting denunciations and slanderousness, gossip and gossip – all this puts pressure on the genius and completely knocks him out of the rut so that he can no longer create and turns into a man in the street, leading a miserable average existence, if only he was left alone. Is there an Elem Klimov parody of the Soviet State Film Agency in this? The viewer will decide.
In general, I enjoyed the film and the visual – it’s nice to see the most famous Soviet on-screen couple still so young, unfazed, beginners, and musical – Alisa Brunovna sings stylishly, in a recognizable manner: her voice may not be rich in octaves, but with energy and soul.
If it seems to you that you have watched all-all Soviet comedies a hundred times already, and from the introductory screen saver of the Irony of Fate, your head strives to fall face down into a salad by inertia, you seem to want something nostalgic from that era, but at the same time so that brand new – “Adventures of the Dentist” is just for you!
Score 7/10
Kovaleva from the province (1975)
This is a television performance in two parts, or rather a recording of the performance of the theater.Lensovet for television. The play based on the play by I. Dvoretsky went on with great success in the theater since 1973, staged by the chief director and artistic director of the theater Igor Vladimirov, at that time the husband of Alisa Brunovna (married in 1960-1981). During the years of their family and creative tandem, he staged all his works for Alice, and she coped with them brilliantly, so “Kovaleva from the Province” in today’s Kinoigame will serve as a small fragment from the past heyday of the joint work of the two theatrical titans of Leningrad.
Judge Kovaleva opens the hearing in the case of the resale of a winning lottery ticket. The carpenter Nikulin won the Volga car, but not having time to wait 3 weeks for the cash prize to be issued at the savings bank, he decides to resell the winning ticket at the Volga price on the black market – the buyer found a chauffeur from Sukhumi who brought tangerines to the same city for sale and ended up nearby. A strict and principled judge will have to figure out whether there is a crime in this story, and who will be punished for this.
In addition to Freundlich, Ovsey Kagan, E. Kamenetsky, Alexey Petrenko, Galina Nikulina, Leonid Dyachkov, Anatoly Ravikovich and others played the main roles in the play.
The main character is Elena Mikhailovna Kovaleva, 37 years old. The regional court was used to testing all complex, contradictory civil cases on her, she snapped them like nuts. But the lottery ticket case did not go according to the usual scenario from the very beginning. From the very first minutes, the viewer understands that something is wrong: it is not the judge who judges, but the judge is judging! The first witnesses are Kovaleva’s father-in-law Mstislav Iovich and her lover, a talented surgeon Meshcheryakov. It would seem, what does the judge’s personal life have to do with the case of speculation with the Volga? It turns out that Judge Kovaleva is about to be promoted to deputy chairman of the regional court, but she has opponents at the top who do not want to see her in this position and are looking for any reason to confirm her unsuitability and prevent her from reaching a high post.
Kovaleva herself tells the story of a complex “lottery” process in the form of a flashback, conducting the persons present – the defendants, the prosecutor, the secretary, witnesses and assessors as musicians of her own orchestra performing the notes she wrote.
What attracts the image of Judge Kovaleva – the fact that there is no unambiguity in it: in the service of a strict judge, demanding of herself and her subordinates. But outside of work, she is just a woman who wants to live her female life: skating on the rink in a red cap with a pompom, meeting her lover at the station and not seeing whispers and judgmental glances. Is it possible to be the most recognizable judge in the city and at the same time preserve all the joys of life of an ordinary woman?
I consider it unfair to put an assessment of the film, because it is not a film as such.I would recommend to those wishing to evaluate Alice Freundlich in a chamber talk drama, if you love this genre. I consider it simply pointless to evaluate her theatrical performance – this is the highest level inside and out.
Sergei Ivanovich retires (1980)
The drama directed by Solomon Schuster tells about the old as the world problem of fathers and children, only in the age when parents already need children more than children need parents. Cast: Boris Andreev, Alisa Freindlich, Georgy Burkov, Anatoly Solonitsyn, Zhanna Bolotova and others.
The main role here is undoubtedly given to Boris Andreev, who embodies Sergei Ivanovich. Alisa Freundlich plays his daughter Natasha. On the day of his retirement, she divorced her husband and intends to take her daughter to school, send her father to help with household chores and homework with her daughter, and she herself will work hard to write a dissertation. But the family cannot see peace: the ex-husband has nowhere to live after the divorce, and he demanded the exchange of an apartment for two smaller ones, and then Sergei Ivanovich has no room and place. To save his granddaughter from the constant scandals of parents on the topic of the housing issue, he leaves for his son in Moscow.
I liked this movie the least of all the ones chosen for the post. Perhaps because the problem is presented only from one side – from the side of Sergei Ivanovich’s generation.
I am aware that the generation of my parents, having watched this film, will begin to grumble “ungrateful youth, parents did everything for them, but these cannot greet their father in a kind way”, “egoists, they only think of themselves”, “here you will grow such on your own head, and then you will go out into the street, because no one needs it. “This position is understandable.
But I’m 31, I’m not a parent, and I have a different view of this situation – first of all, I understand why a parent becomes a moral burden to adult children. The figure of Alisa Freundlich’s daughter in this film is rather ambiguous: she loves her father and wants to be a good mother and daughter. But she also realized for the first time that it is no less important for her to have peace and quiet at home, to be loved and to feel like a desired woman next to her beloved man, and not only to please an elderly dad, a little daughter and a hateful husband who does not even command respect. And it is not possible for her to resolve the housing issue without prejudice to the “folder”, as she calls it. You can relate to this heroine in different ways, but her “truth” in this situation is clear to me.
The same fate befell the family of a son (Georgy Burkov) in Moscow: the daughter-in-law cannot put up with her father-in-law, in front of whom everyone should pretend to be cordial and love, but the grandson is indifferent to him as to a stranger, the old man’s habits are hard for the son’s wife, she was not ready to a relative who suddenly arrived for permanent residence, the house quickly became mired in scandals.
So why should a son choose between a beloved father and a beloved woman? Why should a daughter choose between personal happiness and daddy’s convenience? Doesn’t she have the right to just be happy? There is still a third son, but he is a sailor, and he is not at home for many months, so Sergei Ivanovich himself does not want to stay with him – why, if formally he “will remain with his son”, but in fact he will be all the time alone and desired will not receive communication?
That is, I understand that caring for parents is the default duty of children. But there are three children, everyone has their own life, who should take on this duty, who should sacrifice himself – someone, or three equally in turn? Precisely a daughter, because she is a woman, and caring is her destiny? Or one of the sons, because they are the elders? Or no one, and let Sergei Ivanovich take care of himself? I ask myself this question every few years, but, not finding any answer to it, I just put it in my head for years to come.
Score 7/10
Weekdays and holidays of Serafima Glukina (1988)
Serafima Glyukina works as a tour guide in the museum, where he tells tourists and residents of the city about the unique multimillion-dollar collection of his father’s rare musical instruments.Colleagues and neighbors call Seraphima no other than Simochka: they are all touched by her care, emotional concern, mercy, sensitivity and virtue. One day she is almost knocked down at an intersection by another reckless driver, and at the wheel she recognizes the famous hockey player Alexei Voronkov, the idol of Soviet youth and hockey fans. The whirlpool of his nature, seething with contradictions, is rapidly drawing Seraphima into a new life, so unlike her own.
In the main roles, in addition to Alisa Brunovna, Nikolai Eremenko – Jr.in the role of a handsome hockey player, of course. Valentina Panina, Vaclav Dvorzhetsky, Nina Urgant, Olga Volkova and other recognizable Soviet faces of the screen will flicker in secondary roles of Seraphim’s colleagues and neighbors. From the point of view of composition, this is a two-part melodrama, the first film is called “Weekdays”, the second – “Holidays”.
The story is not very original. Suddenly, two loneliness meet: he is an embittered wolf, disappointed in life and career, she is the very kindness and non-resistance to evil at the level of Gandhi. Is there a future for love between the hockey star and the humble tour guide, given that their unexpected meeting happened when they were both “deep in their 30s”?
Now someone will think, why is this ridiculous euphemism of age here, if above it was about 40-year-old people, it would seem. In the comments under this film, there are often indignations that Alisa Brunovna does not fit the role of the love interest of the hero Eremenko Jr., everyone emphasizes their age difference (the actress is 6 years older), they say that she looks like his mother, that “It is impossible to believe that someone like him could be interested in a woman like her.”
As a viewer, I consider such comments to be vile ageist insinuations and I don’t see the miscast: the film was shot in 1985-1986, Freundlich was 50, Eremenko was 44. a mobile, a daring red scarf, but this does not make him “radically younger” Seraphima, while she was dressed as a typical Soviet museum “aunt” who looks older than herself. At the same time, the film does not name the age of any of the characters, so metaphorically, both of them can be 35, or 40, or more. But I don’t see such a big visual difference in this pair and I see no reason not to believe in the feeling that arose between them.
Speaking about the game of Alice Freundlich, it’s already gone to scatter compliments again, but she conveyed her heroine as organically as possible: she is well aware that she does not fit into perestroika life, that she does not have fists to fight swindlers, grabbers and scoundrels around her and win back they have benefits for themselves that she will never change anything drastically in her life. But her heroine has a rare quality – she knows how to be content with little, enjoy what she has, and not whine about bad power, rotten people and a villainous fate. Therefore, regardless of the circumstances of her life, she always has time to go to an amateur jazz band to teach pensioners to play drums, plant her favorite flowers, help a friend with a dog – all these little joys are always available to her and make her life happy. What else do you need?
Rating for the film 8/10 (I shoot 2 points, because IMHO there was no such need for two films, it would be quite possible to cut down to one two-hour without loss in the plot)
Completing the movie post about Alice Freundlich will be, albeit not her main role, but very charming and character.
“Frozen carp (2017)
This is a tragicomedy directed by Vladimir Kott, the leitmotif of which is built around our older generation, which does not live the second half (or third third) of its priceless life with all its small joys and pleasures, namely “living out its days” in anticipation of the last day.
Elena Mikhailovna modestly lives in retirement in a provincial town. Unexpectedly for herself, she learns about a fatal diagnosis, which can end her life at any time.In order not to disturb her beloved, but constantly busy with work, son and save him from potential worries, Elena Mikhailovna takes matters into her own hands and begins to actively work on organizing her own funeral.
In the main role of Elena Mikhailovna, a former village teacher of literature, and now intensively preparing for her X Day, Marina Neyelova does an excellent job (glasses with madly plus lenses make her eyes almost cartoonish)
Small, but bright and zesty roles are played by the charming morgue employee Sergei Puskepalis, the heroine’s only son and fashion coach of success and efficiency Yevgeny Mironov, mysterious coffin master (Bezenchuk) Alexander Bashirov. And a separate whole capital cake with raisins is given by the heroine of the post – Lyudmila Borisovna, a neighbor and best friend of Elena Mikhalna.
The heroine Freundlich never expected to receive an offer in the style of the VIA GRA hit “Kill my girlfriend” in her old age. She is skeptical about the idea of Elena Mikhalna to die as soon as possible and on her own, but she does not know the word “euthanasia”, and does not want to take a sin on her soul, and she did not plan to go to prison in her old age, but she also did not cannot help, therefore, dashingly and with an original mother tongue and her inherent directness, she begins to offer her friend various options.
I advise everyone to take the time to watch this film, to find out how a dead carp resurrected after a deep freeze, why at 70 years there is no life, except for preparing for their funeral, and what generally happens in this den – coffins stand in the middle of the room, fish the size with a dog, the old women got drunk and share erotic dreams with Mel Gibson … The film, by the way, received the Audience Award of the Moscow International Film Festival in its time.
I can say that I am glad that such films began to appear from time to time in the cultural space of Russia.I am worried that the older generation of Russians “dropped out” from social life almost completely and considers this to be the norm. I never see older people in the cinema at the premiere, I don’t see them in pretty bakeries eating eclairs with coffee. As if life comes down to going to the clinic early in the morning, and then to entering the grocery, and in the summer – in packed buses to the dacha, tearing your back in the beds … Is this life? I think it’s time to break this paradigm.
And the soulful script of this very short film allows the leading actresses of 70 and 80 years to show their talent once again and show it to our eyes.Actresses of the older generation talk a lot in interviews about how they are afraid to grow old, because at a certain age they simply cease to be offered roles, at most “someone’s grandmothers / mothers / neighbors”, and also that it is scary to grow old and accept oneself at age, because that the face that the whole country saw and remembers young and beautiful now looks inevitably old, wrinkled, spotted …
So for the whole film I enjoyed the wrinkles, folds, ptosis and age spots of the leading actors, because they were both beautiful and remained, the light of talent that streams from the eyes overshadows any imperfections on the screen.
Score 9/10
In conclusion, I would like to add that the grandson of Alisa Freundlikh Nikita Vladimirov with his friends from the directing and production department in 2020 shot a documentary biographical film about his grandmother called “Alice. Excitement ”dedicated to her 85th anniversary. The film shows scenes of Alisa Brunovna’s preparation for staging an alternative play by Ivan Vyrypaev, starting with the first reading of the play and ending with scenes from her home life, meeting her friends and her first great-granddaughter.The film is available on Russian streaming platforms and online cinemas from December 2020
In this film, director Ivan Vyrypaev says that if there is anything in St. Petersburg that must be seen first and foremost, it is not the Hermitage and other great museums and monuments – they just will not go anywhere. It is more important to have time to see Alice Freundlich on stage.
