For Parents and Authorized Users – Once you are listed as an Authorized User, you will receive the user name and password needed to access the CASHNet system by the email designated by your student. Once you have a user ID and password, log into CASHNet to see the new bill. If you already have access, but have forgotten your password, you can reset it yourself by clicking the link on the homepage or contact your student to reset the password.

Financial Aid

In most cases, the availability of financial aid for summer school is limited ad not the same as during the academic year. Students should speak with a Financial Aid staff member well in advance of classes regarding their summer aid eligibility. An appointment is usually not necessary. Most questions can be answered by Financial Aid staff on a walk-in basis or through a phone call. For further information, please call the Office of Student Financial Aid at 607-871-2159.

Residence Hall Opening and Closing Dates

Housing Reservations

Summer campus housing is available for students aged 18 or older. Students who require summer housing please download the Housing Contract and return a completed copy to the Office of Residence Life (607-871-2186). This MUST be completed and submitted at least four (4) weeks prior to your first class. You will be notified of your housing assignment shortly before the start of the summer session you are attending via your AU email account. All campus housing locations are smoke-free areas. Smoking is only allowed 25′ from any building on campus. Animals are NOT allowed in any building on campus, including the residence halls.

Rooms are rented for either summer term and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Campus housing facilities are clean and adequate, but spartan (no phones or TVs, no maid service, no fans or air conditioning). Students typically supply their own bed and bath linens, pillows and blankets. However, bed linens are available through an outside contracted linen service. Students who wish to receive this service must contract for it when making arrangements for on-campus housing. The cost for linen service is $16 per week and it includes one pillow, one pillowcase, one top sheet, one bottom fitted sheet and one blanket. Along with your own personal items, you may want to bring with you dishes, cooking utensils, pots and pans, lamp, fan (the halls are not air conditioned), wastebasket, hangers, TV (if desired), etc., as these are some of the items not supplied. There is a full kitchen on the main floor of the residence hall for student use. Laundry facilities are available in the residence hall. All housing locations are smoke-free. No pets are allowed (unless assisting the visually impaired).

Living Accommodations on Campus

Summer students will be housed according to preference and availability. Accommodations are furnished with twin beds (36″x 80″), dressers, desks and chairs.

Control of Animals Policy

Animals are not allowed in any University building unless trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Documentation is required; please contact the Office of Residence Life for more information (607-871-2186)

Dining

While no meal plan is available during Summer Term I, most summer students are housed in a residence hall that has full kitchen facilities so they can prepare their own food if they wish to. Meals may also be obtained at restaurants in the Village of Alfred.

The dining hall will be open during most of Summer Term II and there may be a limited meal plan available for students residing on campus. (Summer Term II students interested in the meal plan should contact the Residence Life Office at 607-871-2186 for further details.)

Online Learning | Alfred University

Online Learning is a flexible option for busy students. Students may enroll in online courses to meet degree requirements, take electives, or complete courses ahead of time. Online courses do not meet on campus, and students complete assignments according to their own schedules. Many courses are unique to AU, and provide learning opportunities for enrolled and non-enrolled students.

Availability

Online courses are available during Allen Term (Winter) and Summer Term. Some online courses are available during the fall and spring semesters. All online courses are taught with Canvas. Technical support is available from Information Technology Services. Online Student Support is available for all students enrolled in online courses.

Governance

Alfred University is a member of The National Council’s State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA), which allows AU to provide online education to students in all NC-SARA states.

Alfred University Summer Programs on TeenLife

Alfred University is located in the peaceful village of Alfred in western New York State, where summer days are warm and nights are cool and comfortable. ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT CAMPS

ASTRONOMY

Our Summer Astronomy Camp is for students entering grades 11-12 who love astronomy and are interested in pursuing an education in math or the physical sciences. Students enjoy a mix of night and daytime activities involving extensive use of the AU observatory’s telescopes and electronics.

ART

“Portfolio Preparation for College Bound Artists” is a 5-day, residential intensive institute for grades 10-12 that helps students prepare to apply to art school. The program provides instruction in observational drawing, an understanding of color and a sound foundation in the vocabulary of art and art related pursuits. Featured topics include “Building a Strong Portfolio” and “Careers in the Arts.”

Each student must bring a portfolio for review and will receive constructive advice on how to accomplish the best college application portfolio they can.

CREATIVE WRITING

This popular residential camp is for students entering grades 10-12 who love to write and want to learn new ways to improve their writing skills with others who share their passion! The program provides an introduction to a variety of genres: poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, and drama. In morning and afternoon sessions, students participate in writing intensive exercises designed to address the elements of craft: voice, character, image, scene, and setting.

CERAMIC AND GLASS ENGINEERING

Ceramic and Glass Engineering camp is for students entering grades 9-12 who wish to learn about ceramic engineering. Students participate in exciting hands-on lab experiences in ceramic processing & tape casting, and glass melting & press forming, working alongside faculty.

Ceramic Processing and Tape Casting: Ceramic components are at the heart of a vast majority of our everyday items, from cell phones to toilets. At the center of the manufacturing process is ceramic processing – using powders to make usable items.

This summer lab exercise will focus on making a ceramic sun-catcher that will be fabricated using tape casting, lamination, and glazing, capturing aspects of both historical and advanced ceramic materials and processing techniques. We will discuss the chemistry involved, the reactions that occur at both room temperature and at high temperature, and how these processes affect the properties (light transmission, strength, etc.) of the ceramic component.

Glass Melting and Press Forming: Glass is everywhere in our daily lives, from the screen on your cell phone and LCD television, to windows, bottles, and fiber optic cables. Unlike other ceramics and materials, glass is not a solid, but a super-cooled liquid. How glass is made, however, is an exciting and visually spectacular event, where raw materials (sand, limestone, and soda ash) are blended and melted at high temperature to form a viscous liquid that can be cast and shaped into objects. This lab exercise will discuss how chemistry affects glass properties and color, making glass, and stress in glass due to cooling. In addition, each student will cast a glass piece to take home!

DRONES/ROBOTICS

Robotics Engineering Camp is an exciting residential summer program for students entering grades 9-12. The program is based on the VEX Robotics System which offers a great platform for learning about areas rich with career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math. Beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project also encourages teamwork, leadership and problem solving among groups. Students experience hands-on learning in small classes, through assembling and programming the VEX Robotics System to perform various functions.

SPORTS CAMPS

SWIMMING Our Swim Camp is for competitive swimmers entering grades 7-12. This exciting, week-long camp is designed to enhance the technical aspects of stroke, training, and the strategies needed for each camper to compete at the top level of competitive swimming. Technical instructions, stretching and dry land training, training principles and stroke development are integral parts of the program. Both residential and commuter options are available.

EQUESTRIAN

Our English and Western Equestrian Camps, for riders aged 14-17, accommodate hunt seat and western riding based on the gifts and needs of the participants. Instructors work with campers individually to help them define realistic personal goals at the beginning of the week and their lessons are directed toward helping them achieve those goals. Campers have lots of fun, refine their skills and have plenty of time to get to know the horses and each other. A student show is held at the end of the week to give campers an opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned.

Each summer we welcome hundreds of students from all over the country to our beautiful campus to participate in exciting academic institutes and sports camps. Our summer academic institutes are residential programs for rising 9th-12th graders. All are staffed by distinguished members of the University faculty. Our popular sports camps offer pre-college-aged athletes a great opportunity to advance their skills working with AU’s award-winning head coaches and assistant coaches. Sports campers benefit from the many resources of our McLane Physical Education Center and Fields, and the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park.

When not in class, students enjoy organized recreational activities as well as free time for relaxation. Out-of-class supervision is provided by our team of Head Camp Counselors (HCCs) and Camp Counselors (CCs), who are specially trained to serve as camp counselors, mentors and friends. Students stay in clean, students stay in clean residence halls and meals are served in the University dining hall. Living, dining and learning together, they have ample opportunity to get to know each other well and develop lasting friendships.

Alfred University | Study in the USA

Alfred University is a small private university located in the state of New York, founded in 1836 as an independent educational institution of coeducation for women and men. Alfred University is the second oldest institution in the United States to accept students of both sexes. Also, the university was distinguished by its flagship views on national issues: already in the 19th century, African Americans and Indians studied here.

Alfred University is located in the Allegheny Mountains, New York, on 232 scenic acres.It is a quiet little town an hour west of Corning, an hour and a half south of Rochester and two hours from Buffalo. There are more than 50 buildings on the campus: 18 of them are academic buildings with excellent technical equipment.
