The Evolution of Lacrosse Slang: From Classic to Contemporary
Lacrosse, often referred to as “lax” by enthusiasts, has developed its own unique vocabulary over the years. This specialized lingo not only adds flavor to the sport but also serves as a badge of honor for those in the know. Understanding these terms is crucial for anyone looking to fully immerse themselves in the lacrosse culture.
The language of lacrosse is constantly evolving, with new terms emerging and old ones fading away. Regional differences also play a significant role in shaping the vocabulary used by players and fans. For instance, a term popular on the East Coast might be completely unknown to West Coast players.
The Importance of Staying Current with Lacrosse Slang
Keeping up with lacrosse slang is essential for several reasons:
- It enhances communication on and off the field
- It helps newcomers integrate into the lacrosse community
- It demonstrates passion and dedication to the sport
- It allows for more precise and efficient descriptions of plays and techniques
As we delve into the world of lacrosse slang, remember that language is fluid, and new terms may arise while others become obsolete. This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of both classic and contemporary lacrosse lingo.
Essential Lacrosse Equipment Slang: From “Buckets” to “Bags”
Lacrosse players have developed a unique set of terms to describe their equipment. Understanding these can help you navigate conversations about gear and performance.
Headgear and Protective Equipment
What do lacrosse players call their helmets? The term “bucket” or “lid” is commonly used to refer to a lacrosse helmet. This slang likely originated from the bucket-like shape of older helmet styles. For example, you might hear a coach yell, “Strap on your buckets, boys!” before practice.
Other protective gear also has its own nicknames:
- “Turtle shell” – chest protector
- “Arm candy” – arm guards
- “Cup” – protective groin gear (leading to the phrase “cup check”)
Stick and Pocket Terminology
The lacrosse stick, being the most crucial piece of equipment, has generated numerous slang terms:
- “Twig” – a common nickname for the lacrosse stick
- “Bag” or “Sack” – refers to a deep pocket in the stick’s head
- “Whip” – the amount of hold the pocket provides
How does pocket depth affect a player’s performance? A deep “bag” can provide better ball retention but may sacrifice quick release speed. Players often debate the merits of different pocket styles, using phrases like, “That bag is so deep, it’s like throwing from a black hole!”
On-Field Action: Decoding Lacrosse Gameplay Slang
The fast-paced nature of lacrosse has given rise to a plethora of terms describing various plays, shots, and strategies. Mastering this vocabulary is key to understanding the nuances of the game.

Why are these trick shots so popular in lacrosse? While they may seem flashy, these techniques can often catch goalkeepers off guard and create scoring opportunities from unexpected angles.
Passing and Ball Movement Slang
Effective passing is crucial in lacrosse, and players have developed terms to describe various types of passes:
- “Dime” or “Dish” – a perfect pass
- “Buddy Pass” or “Hospital Pass” – a dangerous pass that leaves the receiver vulnerable to a hit

How can understanding these terms improve a player’s game awareness? Recognizing the type of pass being attempted can help players anticipate and react more quickly, improving overall team performance.

The FOGO and Faceoff Specialists
“FOGO” stands for “Face Off, Get Off” and refers to a player who specializes in taking faceoffs but typically leaves the field immediately after. Why is the FOGO position so important in lacrosse? Quick Guide to Lacrosse Slang Terms
A parent emailed me the other day with a question on lacrosse goalie lingo –
One question, how did you come up with the “rat” moniker? For me as an old guy, doesn’t seem to totally fit with the quality of your material.
Perhaps the older generation isn’t aware of the slang term – a lax rat – one whose life is consumed by lacrosse. So naturally, I am the lax goalie rat.
This got me thinking of all the lacrosse slang terms that are out there today. There’s a list going at e-lacrosse.com (edit: I’m not sure what happened to e-lacrosse.com but the site doesn’t appear to be live anymore. Link removed.) but that one is missing some tasty gems, like ‘crispy with the rock’. That one also has a lot of non-slang terms mixed in like “assist”.
Today’s post is a fun one. A quick guide to understanding lacrosse slang terms old and new.
Real quick – if you’re new to this site, let me give you a quick intro. I write about lacrosse goalies – tips, drills, mindsets, coaching, and general advice all for lacrosse goalies, goalie coaches, and those interested in learning more about being or training a great goalie. If that sounds good to you – join my email list here.
One caveat on slang terms – they change constantly and some are completely region specific.
When I was growing up as a kid in California, we used the word “Rad” (meaning cool or awesome) all the time. “That’s so rad!”. But I haven’t used nor heard that word in years, except in rad 80’s movies of course.
All that to say this list of lacrosse lingo may or may not be accurate given when and where you’re reading this.

- Shortie– This is a lacrosse player with a non-defensive lacrosse shaft. Many times coaches will look for matchups where their offensive player is guarded by a “shortie” since it’s harder to defend a player with a short stick than with a full length defensive shaft.
- Stick Doctor – This is the person on the lacrosse team who knows how to string or fix sticks. Every good team has a stick doctor.
- Stuff – This is a term used when a goalie saves a shot from close range. It does not feel good to get stuffed.
- Sidearm– This is when you pass or shoot with your lacrosse stick to the side instead of over the top.
- Split Dodge – This is a type of dodge where a lacrosse player switches the stick from one hand to the other. Think of it like a crossover move in basketball.
- Slash – This is a type of foul where a player hits another player’s head or an illegal part of their body. It’s common to hear the pop noise that occurs from a lacrosse stick slashing into a helmet.
- Slide – This is when a defender leaves his current position to help another defender. This usually happens when a defender gets beat and needs backup.
- Stick-side – This is anywhere on the right side of the lacrosse goal for a right-handed goalie or the left side of the goal for a left handed goalie.
- Stick Skills- These are the skills lacrosse players develop with their lacrosse stick. This includes passing, catching, cradling, ground balls, etc. Wall ball is one of the best ways to work on stick skills.
- Tilt – This is the angle in which your lacrosse helmet is tilted downwards. Many lacrosse players take tilt more seriously than you would think!
- Top Cheddar – This is a slang term for when a lacrosse player shoots the ball high on the net and scores.
- Top Shelf – This is another slang term for when a lacrosse player shoots the ball high on the net and scores.
- Top-side – This is the area towards the middle of the lacrosse field when a defender gets beat. This illustration shows you exactly where topside is. The goal of every offensive player is to get top-side, and defenders do the best they can to stop you from getting there.
- Turf Monster – These are imaginary monsters that trip up lacrosse players on the field. If you fall over for no reason, blame it on the turf monster!
- Underhand – This is when you hold the lacrosse stick with your hands down near your feet instead of up top near your shoulders. It is the opposite of overhand.
- V Cut – This is a cut to help lacrosse players get open. You take a few steps into your defender and a few steps away to create space for yourself.
- Wall Ball – This is the most common way that lacrosse players practice by themselves. Instead of throwing the ball to a person, players will practice throwing on a wall, just like tennis players would do with a tennis ball.
- Walking the Dog – This is when you hold the lacrosse stick out in front of you like you’d hold a dog leash.
- Wand – This is another name for a lacrosse stick.
- Ward – This is a type of foul where an offensive lacrosse player uses their free hand to push off the defender.
- Whip – This refers to a lacrosse stick’s ability to pull a ball downwards. Different lacrosse players prefer different amounts of whip.
- Wings – This refers to two things (see illustration above) (1) When a face-off is taken, two other lacrosse players line up on either side of the face-off man. These are the “wings.” (2) On the offensive part of the lacrosse field, the wing refers to the two sides near the goal.
- Worm Burner – This is an underhand, low to low lacrosse shot. They often take goalies by surprise.
- Yard Sale – This is when a defender checks the lacrosse stick out of a player’s hand. This can really get a crowd going.
- X – This is the area behind the lacrosse goal. Attackman and midfielders utilize this space to dodge and feed.
- Zone – This is a type of defense where defenders are in charge of a particular area on the field instead of an actual player.

Urban Thesaurus – Find Synonyms for Slang Words
As you’ve probably noticed, the slang synonyms for “term” are listed above. Note that due to the nature of the algorithm, some results returned by your query may only be concepts, ideas or words that are related to “term” (perhaps tenuously). This is simply due to the way the search algorithm works.
You might also have noticed that many of the synonyms or related slang words are racist/sexist/offensive/downright appalling – that’s mostly thanks to the lovely community over at Urban Dictionary (not affiliated with Urban Thesaurus). Urban Thesaurus crawls the web and collects millions of different slang terms, many of which come from UD and turn out to be really terrible and insensitive (this is the nature of urban slang, I suppose). Hopefully the related words and synonyms for “term” are a little tamer than average.
Urban Thesaurus
The Urban Thesaurus was created by indexing millions of different slang terms which are defined on sites like Urban Dictionary. These indexes are then used to find usage correlations between slang terms. The official Urban Dictionary API is used to show the hover-definitions. Note that this thesaurus is not in any way affiliated with Urban Dictionary.
Due to the way the algorithm works, the thesaurus gives you mostly related slang words, rather than exact synonyms. The higher the terms are in the list, the more likely that they’re relevant to the word or phrase that you searched for. The search algorithm handles phrases and strings of words quite well, so for example if you want words that are related to lol and rofl you can type in lol rofl and it should give you a pile of related slang terms. Or you might try boyfriend or girlfriend to get words that can mean either one of these (e.g. bae). Please also note that due to the nature of the internet (and especially UD), there will often be many terrible and offensive terms in the results.
There is still lots of work to be done to get this slang thesaurus to give consistently good results, but I think it’s at the stage where it could be useful to people, which is why I released it.
Special thanks to the contributors of the open-source code that was used in this project: @krisk, @HubSpot, and @mongodb.
Finally, you might like to check out the growing collection of curated slang words for different topics over at Slangpedia.

Lax Bro Culture – Massachusetts Daily Collegian
Urban Dictionary defines “lax bro” in a number of ways, but the primary definition states that “A lax bro is a guy who plays lacrosse and fully embraces the culture.” That definition, however, doesn’t do lax bros much justice, as it doesn’t explain what said “culture” of the lax bro really is. After trying to explain to my mother this newly coined term, it got me thinking – how does one define a lax bro?
Courtesy Rochelle, Just Rochelle/Flickr
The characteristics of a lax bro are pretty visible; the culture isn’t too complicated to digest. We can start by looking at the fashion. A typical lax bro outfit may include, but is not limited to, a lacrosse pinnie, a pair of shorts, black mid-calf socks, a pair of sneakers, some Oakley shades and the ever-so-slightly off balance hat.
I wonder, though, when did this “style” come into play? My dad played lacrosse in high school but was most certainly not a lax bro, so contrary to popular belief, the style did not come with the sport; it emerged on its own.
“Being a lax bro is an excuse for poor fashion,” says University of Massachusetts sophomore Angela Miller. Is she right? At the end of the day, what is the meaning behind this popular college personality? I can’t imagine that any student in their right mind would wake up and say to themselves, “Today, I think it would be really awesome if I wore socks practically up to my nose, and I really think it would be even better if they were black ones.”
Though, maybe it’s not about the look – maybe it’s about the comfort. I imagine that the lax bro is quite comfortable in the clothes he wears, until I remember the hat that barely rests upon each lax bro’s head. How can it possibly be comfortable to sport this kind of style? When I see these hats I can only think that I am playing a game of Jenga, waiting for it to fall, anxious and unable to focus because of the uncertainty of placement. So if it doesn’t look good, and it can’t possibly be comfortable, what is the point?
When a lax bro is getting ready for the day, it seems that a subconscious decision is made to sport not a style, but rather, a personality. Whether we want to believe it or not, everyone wants to identify with some person or group because it makes us feel welcome, wanted and a lot of other wonderful warm feelings that begin with the letter ‘w.’
I don’t mean to condemn the lax bro or even say that all lax bros are exactly the same, but rather to toss out an idea of what may come along with the term. My mother asked for the definition, and I answered with a question. There is obviously no single definition for any group of people, as that would be stereotyping, and as we all learn, stereotyping is something only villains do.
Of course, with every college student comes a distinct personality that is probably in some way tied to a particular group. The important thing is to remember that these loose generalities do exist, but not to take them too seriously. I do think that my definition of a lax bro is pretty close to accurate, but this doesn’t mean I immediately write one off when I meet one. We are all tied to groups, stereotypes, gender roles, cultural identities and labels that are connected to us in some way, but we have to remember that we are not defined by such labels because people cannot be simplified like a math problem. There is no recipe for a person. We are more than that. You are more than that.

Why Is Lacrosse Called Lax? (16 Common Slang Terms In Lacrosse)
There are a lot of different slang terms used in lacrosse. However, before I dive into those, let’s start with the simplest one of them all. Why is lacrosse called lax? Well, you would think that there would be some big story around it. However, there isn’t.
Lax is simply the shortened version of lacrosse. It is pretty much the same as when other sports have their names shortened, e.g. in the UK; football will often be called ‘footie’. I do not know exactly when people started to refer to the sport as lax, but it seems that it is a term that evolved during the modern version of the game.
Playing the game of lacrosse also has a slang term. This is ‘laxing’. So. Yes. Lax is a verb.
So, now that one is out of the way (and it is probably one of the easiest to explain of the lacrosse terms), I want to take a look at some more slang that you are likely to hear when you are playing the sport.
Most Common Slang Terms in Lacrosse
In this section, I want to go through the most common slang terms used in the game of lacrosse. Now, do bear in mind that these are common terms. Every lacrosse team will have their own lingo. Some of it may not quite match up to what I have discussed here. However, it should be something similar. I am mostly going to be talking about the tactical terms here (with a few others peppered in) because I want to help you improve at the game, and knowing tactical terms is the best way to go about that.
1.
Lax Bro or Lax Rat
These two terms can be used interchangeably. It simply means ‘lacrosse player’. Lax Rat tends to be used more for the very serious players. There are some people that will see Lax Bro as a more derogatory term, although it is often only really seen as derogatory when it used by a non-player (or fan).
2.
Alley
This is your fist tactical term. If a player is playing down the alley, it is talking about the positions near the center of the field. There are two alleys on each half of the field. One on the left, one on the right. These alleys are by the goal. Dead in the center of these two alleys will be the circle.
3.
Alligator Arms
If you are a new player, you may be told that you have alligator arms. This just means that you should be extending your arms when passing or shooting. It means that you can get more power and control over the ball.
4.
Man-to-Man Defense
If this is called, then it means everybody in defence will need to mark one offensive player. When this is called, you may be asked to ‘mark up’. This means that you will need to tell the other players who you are marking on the field. This probably isn’t something that you are going to be hearing all that much. This is because there will be the expectation that you know who is marking.
One term also used in defense is ‘man down defense’. This just means that one of the defenders is in a penalty. This means that the team is defending a man down. Your lacrosse team may have a way to deal with this situation. This would be something that you cover in training.
While I am on the subject of penalties, if a team is one player down, then the other team is said to have an EMO, or Extra Man Advantage.
5.
On-The-Hop
Is your coach screaming ‘on-the-hop’ at you? No. They don’t want you bouncing around the field. Instead, it means that you need to be a little bit faster. This may be a term used during the latter part of the game when the players on the field need to speed up a little bit because they are behind in goals.
6.
Cradling
This is something that you will need to learn how to do when you are starting the game for the first time. Cradling is the motion that you do in order to ensure that the ball stays firmly rooted in the net.
7.
Crease
This is the circle that surrounds the goal.
8.
Crosse
This is the official name of the lacrosse stick. However, to be honest with you, the majority of people are going to call it the stick. It makes life so much simpler that way.
9.
Dime
If somebody says you threw them a dime, it means that you made a very good pass. This is the sort of thing that you want to be hearing!
10.
Double-Team
In most cases, one defensive player will mark one offensive player. However, if one offensive player seems to be posing a threat, then there may be a call to double-team them. This is a call made on the fly. It just means that two people are going to be marking that player as opposed to one. This will only last for a small while, then everybody can go back to whoever they were marking originally.
11.
FOGO
Face-off, Get-off. This is for a player that is good at face-offs. They will be used all the time for face-offs but, shortly after the face-off, they will get-off the field.
12.
Gilman
If a defensive player regularly throws the ball well into the offensive area (i. e. a long throw) then they are known as a Gilman.
13.
Goose
Knocking the ball along the floor as opposed to picking it up is known as a goose. If the ball is just sitting on the ground, it will be known as a ground ball.
14.
Around the World
If you can pull off an Around the World, it means that you have mastered the handling of your stick. It means that you will be moving the stick across the front of your body and then around your back. A shot or pass will be made when the ball is behind your back. It is a complicated technique but one that you will see used a lot in professional lacrosse.
15.
Slashing
If you stick check a player without hitting their stick or the arm holding the stick, this is known as slashing. This is a penalty.
16.
Wing Area
If you are asked to pass into the wing area, it means the areas either side of the goal. The farside of the field.
Do You Need to Know These Slang Terms?
Nope, Obviously, it is handy to know some of the slang terms. Some could help when planning tactics. However, to be honest, the game is perfectly playable without knowing the lingo. What you need to pick up will quite easily be picked up within a few games, or even by watching a couple of lacrosse games on YouTube.
If you do not understand a term, then feel free to ask your fellow players. They are there to help you grow as a player. After all, if you understand exactly what they are saying, then the entire team is going to benefit.
Conclusion
Remember; I have only introduced some basic terms about lacrosse here. The more you play, the more lingo you will pick up. However, I think what I have talked about here is going to be a great start if you are venturing into the world of lacrosse for the very first time.

Once Again, Lax Bros Suck.
As you may have seen, Jordie who claims he is the head lax guy here at barstool took the time to try and rebuttal my video on why lax bro’s suck so badly. Hey Jordie, nice post but you made it too easy for me. Let me start by pointing out you took the time out of your C4 snorting, wall ball, cuddle-less day to try and prove lacrosse boys don’t suck. It seems to me as if you are a wee bit insecure Jordie. You claim I admitted “lacrosse boys fucking rock” the only think I stated in my video is that lacrosse boys have rocks in place of their brains. You made it a point to clarify you wake up extra early for practice, 5:30am to be specific. Wow amazing you wake up early to throw a ball around with a stick. You claim that puts lax bro’s one point above football players. The same football players who wake up at 5:00am to play a legitimate sport after a wonderful night of cuddling, hmm that one points not adding up.
You also claim lacrosse boys schedule their classes together to benefit the professors. You say this like the only time lacrosse players miss class is for game day? In my 3 years of college, having numerous classes with lax bro’s the only time they come to class is to take a test. Lax bro’s skip class to play Call of Duty while drinking mountain dew and snapchatting 17 different girls, 5 of those girls still being in high school. My point being, lax bros don’t know what a conservatory is because they don’t take the time to go to class and learn new words for their vocabulary. Their vocabulary that consists of “bro”, “sex”, and “beer”. Actually, I take “beer” back I’ll give that word to football players, lax bros can have “white-claw”. Seems more fitting.
You want to believe people don’t like lax bros because of the hateful stereotypes placed upon you all. I’ve tried Jordie, I’ve really tried. I once encountered a lax bro who cried to me for 45 minutes because his parents refused to stop paying for his gas. I can’t make this shit up. I will give it to you the sick flow is all you guys have going for you. You are treated like the Nickelback of the athletics world because you are the Nickelback of the athletics world my friend. I admire your enthusiasm towards your lacrosse community or for lack of better words, cult. But until these lax bro’s start proving me wrong, it’s like the bottom of the ninth and you’re never gonna win.

We believe that the information that we provide in this topic is publicly available. For the simple reason that no one asked us to keep this correspondence confidential.
Please do not take the correspondence or mention of this or that service as PR or advertising. The purpose of the post is to tell you about what we encountered in the process of preparing a project initiated by the forces of 2 people, in conditions of parallel support of the business’s operational activities.
Bro, why do we need a business? Let’s trade in brooms. After all, they are used in every yard!
I heard this “business idea” from my cousin 5 years ago. It would seem that what could be simpler? Naturally, then I twisted my finger at my temple. And now I will do the same.BUT. There is something in these words. I remembered about them quite recently. When I was analyzing the seven-month process of preparing an ICO project for our business. But let’s get back to these words a little later.
In June 2017, we began to study such terms as blockchain, ICO, tokens. At that time, we had absolutely no idea what it was and what it was all for. The hype around the blockchain has done its job.
In the process of preparing the project, it seemed to us that the people who give us advice or offer their services have an idea of how it works. To be honest, we were very much mistaken. I don’t deny that we “used” these people in order to get answers to our questions and form our own idea of blockchain technology and obtain the necessary knowledge.
As it turned out, 99% of all proposals are trivial template mailings, spam, an absolute unwillingness to even superficially study the project, as well as offers of services for insane money. All these people are just projecting their approach onto us. And I understand that. Why bother, do analysis, study projects when you can just send 100k template letters and catch a client who pays.Just because of the collected $ 10m, ~ 1m $ was allocated for such advertising “services”.
I apologize in advance for the format of screenshots, which may look small on laptop screens. Any screenshot can be opened as a picture in a separate window.
It is difficult to react adequately to the ease with which within 5 minutes people want to get “agree” and money. Especially, given the fact that during the seven months of preparing the project, we forgot about what a dream is, not to mention the financial profit of the proposed venture and the financial burden on the business.
ICOS. These guys just amazed us. Destroying the banal logic by the lack of any logic in their proposals.
What is your soft and hard cap?
This question is asked by a person who, a day ago, claimed that he had familiarized himself with the project and studied all the documentation on the project. A person offering services valued at 90,030 US $ 2 million.
A personal meeting in the office (even in ours!) For ICOS representatives, for some reason, unacceptable luxury is impossible.Perhaps the guys simply do not want to waste time and use modern technology to transfer an amount equivalent to almost two million dollars.
It is worth noting that the project that we bring to the ICO is not just an idea generated on the sidelines of the employer’s office. Our project is based on a real, operating business that has existed for more than 3 years and in which more than 150k $ have been invested. We have an address, you can come to us, you can have a delicious meal and personally meet with the founders of business in the real world.
Perfectionism. Sometimes it interferes with work very much. But we could not help but study the examples that were presented to us as a portfolio.
Of course, at first we spent a lot of personal time communicating with representatives of various services, trying to convey the essence of the idea, the essence of the project, trying to interest, invite to the project, find like-minded people. But, in the end, we began to reduce dialogues to short correspondences, consisting of 3, 4 messages.
Really? 🙂
Attempts to convey our position as the founders of the project and the approaches that we use in business, our philosophy, sometimes led to complements. But, nothing more 🙂 “For free” nobody wants to work.
A good case from our life will be the fact that over the years of work, we have repeatedly offered tasting kits to customers free of charge . But only those 90,030 of which we ourselves have selected . What are the principles? Analyzing the prospects for cooperation with potential clients and taking risks.
And just do Alexey, of course I will send. You are a pleasant person, through your thoughts you can feel the soul that you put into your products.
To be honest, this is the best comment I have received from someone willing to offer their services. But, unfortunately, our communication ended with this comment. And of course he didn’t send me anything.
In addition to a large number of dialogues in telegrams, we simultaneously spent our time studying other projects. It was very disappointing to see projects whose purpose was a banal fundraising. This is how milcoin ended. This is how the zero coin will most likely end. There are a lot of examples.
While studying other projects, we even managed to find time to compile analytical reports of projects from the real sector (it was interesting for us to study colleagues and “competitors”) in order to show microinvestors (people who want to buy altcoins) what principles should be followed when studying projects, what to look for.Explain why you should not wait for the growth of the token value and warn against projects in which there is a high probability of losing your funds. Here is a link to an example of one of these reports.
A separate story will be devoted to the bounty company. Looking ahead, I will say that we deliberately and reasonedly canceled the bounty. For which they were severely punished by the emotions of people who so wanted to get “free tokens”.
Bro, why do we need a business? Let’s trade in brooms. After all, they are used in every yard
I do not want to trade in brooms and I do not see any future in this. Our business is complex, as are the components of projects, ideas, strategic plans, ambitions and the very sphere in which we work. We do not take the easy path and do not expect immediate results. We move forward step by step and develop organically.
We will continue to look for like-minded people and partners. People who will share our approach, philosophy and principles. If you feel that our idea is close to you, I personally, with great pleasure, will answer all questions, criticism and comments.
I hope this article will be useful to those who have not yet encountered services in the field of preparing and conducting an ICO.And also for those who decided to make money on hype.
PS Hype around blockchain and cryptocurrency makes housewives think about buying one or another crypto. In most cases, such actions will lead to the loss of your own money.

The second stage of the Winter Fun Race took place • PROyachting
PROyachting held the second stage of the Winter Fun Race amateur series for non-professional helmsmen and beginners. The regatta took place from December 25 to December 27 on sailing monotypes J / 70 at the Imeretinsky resort in Sochi. 10 teams took part in the competition.
Participants were lucky with the weather. All three days the wind was blowing – on Friday the training took place with winds up to 22 knots. On Saturday, a fresh wind remained, the wind was blowing with a force of about 18 knots, the sea was up to 1 meter high. The organizers held 6 races, according to the results of which the three leaders were determined – Pavetra, Rockets and Pirogovka.
On Sunday, the final racing day, little wind was expected, but, fortunately, the calm forecast did not come true – the wind of 6 knots was enough for four more races, which changed the placement in the top three. As a result, Rockets (Igor Fedotov, Andrey Novikov, Ilya Fedotov, Pavel Kirilyuk, Alla Yablonskaya) are in first place, Pavetra is in second (Andrey Bratan, Anna Bogomolova, Sergey Desyukevich, Ilya Strak), and Fishe is in third. (Alexey Bunzya, Pavel Agafonov, Andrey Kuznetsov, Alexander Uvarin).
“We missed training day on Friday and the conditions on Saturday were a real shock for us. Our training and racing experience was mostly on flat water in Moscow and Sevastopol. I have not yet met such waves and winds this year, the conditions were similar only in Cyprus in February. It was a great gift for us, the whole team got a lot of impressions, we were delighted and seemed to fall in love with yachting again. You experience very great emotions when you find yourself in such difficult conditions with both the wind and the wave, you learn a lot about your capabilities. The most important thing with such a wave is a completely different technique of the full course, which, for example, as a helmsman, I have never encountered, and I had to master it. These conditions showed me where my weaknesses are. ”
Igor Fedotov, Steering Team Rockets
“J70 is a dynamic modern class, it is convenient to hold competitions on it,” noted Alexey Chegurov, judge of the All-Russian category, deputy chief judge of the second stage of the Winter Fun Race.- Amateurs took part in the regatta, but some showed a very high class of races. The leaders changed, the results were solid, and it was interesting to follow the struggle ”.
Alexey Chegurov, judge of the All-Russian category, deputy chief judge of the second stage of the Winter Fun Race
Regatta partners: Krasnopolyanskaya Cosmetics, Radisson Blu Resort Congress Center.
Motor Boat & Yachting Russia magazine is the general information partner of the regattas series.
Media partner – Sochi Live, a TV channel about life and recreation in Sochi.
The Winter Fun Race regatta is a series of races in Sochi, the main idea of which is to give novice helmsmen an opportunity to try their hand. You can also race in a crew with a professional helmsman, but then two penalty points are added to each race. The regatta consists of 5 stages, which take place from November to March. You can participate in only one or all, there are no restrictions. The next stages will take place on January 29-31, February 26-28, March 26-28.

90,000 who can and who cannot become the head of Surgut
After the resignation of the head of Surgut Vadim Shuvalov the most pressing issue is
who will become the next mayor of the economic capital of Ugra. They were asked and
hosts of the project “What they talk about” – observer siapress.ru Dmitry Shcheglov and
publisher of the newspaper “Novy Gorod” Taras Samborskiy . Video and transcript of the conversation – below.
Dmitry Scheglov: This
“What they talk about”, with you Dmitry Shcheglov ,
Taras Samborsky in touch and we
now we are discussing the second aspect of the main topic of Surgut in December, we have a chapter
Surgut resigned. And we have a question – who will be the next boss in
Surgut. There is a lot of talk about the fact that the interim
chapters are to be appointed today. There was a lot of talk about what it should
be Alexey Zherdev as the first
deputy Shuvalov and how
having the right to sign first, after the chapter. As far as I understand, we have
there was some more fresh information on this topic.
Taras Samborsky:
Fresh, in the sense, who will be io?
D.S .: Yes.
TS: I believe
what will be Mrs. Tomazova . Decision,
exotic, one might say, but she is the deputy head who regulates
social sphere. Yesterday we talked about Vladimir Schmidt , but, in any case,
the solution seems logical to me. Although I wrote that Io chapter will be Zherdev, but
there is such a scheme: whoever is not acting now, in fact, the city will be governed
Zherdev. All the functionality that he concentrated in his hands does not give
reasons to consider it somehow differently.Yes, and it is not logical for him yet to be nominated for
the main roles, because all its functionality is in the formal second position.
Therefore, if it is Anna Tomazova, then Anna Tomazova will be the next five
months.
D.S .: Well, here
I wonder how the Duma will dispose of. It could be five months, or maybe
and one month. So, let’s estimate then: we have, conditionally, a list of people in
cities that could, by their experience and status, by their positions
apply for the post of head.If we start with Tomazova – if she becomes an interim,
it means that she receives a certain status, which, in principle, will help her
apply for the position of head. What are the odds?
TS: Before
to give some kind of list, I would like to give an important, as it seems to me, remark. After
six years old Popov and four years old Shuvalov one thing is obvious – that system
the electoral that was adopted in relation to the chapters shows that the temporary
options, which someone considered Popova and Shuvalov, they do not allow
to develop the municipality.Do not allow to form a team and carry out
some long-term projects. Even those projects that replenish the treasury
budget do not give us any reason to look confidently into the future. If new
the option will be offered as another temporary one, then Surgut will simply discard
back in its development. Surgut is located at that point, this is a unique moment, on
in fact, when the city needs a leader for the next five to ten years. I do not
I’m talking about the incident of Sidorov, who sat in the mayor’s chair for 20 years.A city like me
I imagine it needs a leader who plans this
time period for his activity in this post. All other options
will be disastrous for such a unique municipality as Surgut.
Regarding Tomazova – it seems to me that this is a purely compromise
decision.
D.S .: Alexey
Zherdev as a permanent head?
TS: All
observed, this person is very ambitious, work-oriented, quite
probably possessing the requisite qualities for the job. The same
time to him there is one insurmountable drawback – he is not a Surgut. I am nothing
I want to say in this regard, but starting from Anikin ,
who was the chairman of the executive committee in Surgut, we did not have people from Surgut. Then
is, in the entire recent history in Surgut it is not that not a single mayor was
nonresident, our deputy mayor from another city did not take root for a long time. And any attempt fails
Surgut’s occupation of this post has not yet been crowned with success. Despite the fact that,
of course, this factor is exotic, but it occupies a key position. However
less, his chances are very high.
D.SH .: Let’s go to
to the leadership of the thought. Nadezhda Krasnoyarova
can go to chapters?
TS: Can. She is
possesses a high position, and due to the status could apply for the post
chapters. Plus, this is a corporate discipline man. And if the corporation expresses
such an opinion, it will also be a factor. But it seems to me that she is exactly how
the chairman of the thought is ideally in his place.
D.Sch .: And what
concerns her deputy Artem Kirilenko?
TS: I would bet
his chances are higher, because he is young, he can plan for at least two terms, he
has experience in legislative work. He has a rear in the form of Surgutneftegaz and
pedigree background – he is the grandson of one of the best mayors. There is a lot here again
will depend on corporate processes.
D.SH .: Come on
surnames known in the city.In our country, Sergei Bondarenko , also a person with great experience, was active. Do you think u
would he do it?
TS: I think
that he has ambitions after the history of chairmanship in the Duma and resignation from
this post. But after the illogical conflict with Popov there is no chance.
D.S .: Another one
people – Bazarov. Not so long ago he
left his place of work in Sevastopol. What do you think?
T.S .: This
an ideal candidate for the head of Surgut. And, probably, this is the only one
a candidate that would suit absolutely everyone. But to the greatest regret,
As far as I know, Bazarov has other proposals for today. And he
will not return to Surgut, there is nothing to discuss here.
D.S .: Another one
the person who previously applied for, Ilya
Kandakov .
TS: Well, if
he would have fought for the post of the head of Surgut in the year when he had
competition with Markov , when Popov was, then yes.And today, first of all, he
involved in a very large project that is tied to it – this is the STC. And I did not
I think it will be easy to jump from there and move to a new position. And in general, I
I would not bet on an entrepreneur in the conditions of Russian realities. This is very
vulnerable position.
D.S .: Another one
Deputy of the Ugra Duma – Aisin . And also
entrepreneur.
TS: Same.
Unlike Kandakov, Aisin’s demonstration of his political ambitions is more
clear, clear.I do not know. There are chances, but, firstly, he is also out of business, and
secondly, in my opinion, he thinks more about moving in a different direction. And me
there is no echelon that could push it in this direction. He is good
MP, but does he have a support group that will join in this battle, I
I do not know.
D.S .: We still have
there is a former deputy governor of Ugra and the head of Surgut Alexey Safiollin .
TS: None. I
I think that he worked out all the positions that he took consistently. It
is in his own situation, which suits him perfectly.
D.Sch .: A
Deputy Governor of Ugra Polukeev ?
TS: I would be on
put it. Polukeev showed himself in Surgut from an excellent side, he
powerful manager. It would be a great mayor, conflict-free, but tough and
principled. We would have seen the development of the city under him. But here you have to look at
public support for this candidacy.
D.Sh .: Barsov we still have.
TS: Like himself
he said about himself – and who will push me there? This is a very important question. we
we live under a political structure in which, if quite roughly, there is no
roof – no position. Barsov has a flaw, he is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. For
me this dignity, because he expresses an alternative point of view, u
he has experience in running a large system, but not.
D.Sh.: A Andrey Trubetskoy ?
TS: This
interesting intrigue. Trubetskoy annoys officials with his activity, media
including. If the maps in the district are laid down in this way, they can offer us it.
He is a strong administrator, but as I know, many are not satisfied with his tough
the manner of building relationships with subordinates.
D.S .: Well, okay.
We will finish. Subscribe to the SIA-PRESS channel, read our website.
TS: To all
Thanks, bye everyone, friends.

Protecting your computer from viruses
This article is about ways to protect your computer from viruses that can damage your computer or allow intruders to steal your data, personal information, or money.
Use an anti-malware application – Install an anti-malware application and update it regularly. This will help protect your computer from viruses and other malware. Antimalware applications scan for viruses, spyware and other malware trying to infiltrate your email, operating system or files. New threats may appear daily, so you should check the antimalware manufacturer’s website regularly for updates.
Microsoft Defender is a free anti-malware program included with Windows. It can be updated automatically using Windows Update. You can also choose one of the third-party antivirus products.
Bigger is not always better
Running multiple anti-malware applications at the same time can cause your system to slow down or become unstable.Installing a third-party anti-malware application will automatically disable Microsoft Defender. When two third-party anti-malware applications are installed, they can start working at the same time.
Do not open e-mail messages from unknown senders or unfamiliar attachments . Many viruses are transmitted as e-mail attachments and simply open the attachment to spread. We strongly recommend that you only open attachments that you expect or know. For more information, see the following section: Phishing Protection.
Use the pop-up blocker in your web browser . Pop-ups are small windows in the browser that appear on top of the web page you are viewing. Although most of these windows are used for advertising purposes, they may contain malicious or unsafe code.Pop-up blocking allows you to get rid of some or even all of the pop-ups. Pop-up blocking is enabled by default in Microsoft Edge.
If using Microsoft Edge, make sure SmartScreen is enabled . SmartScreen in Microsoft Edge helps protect against phishing and malware attacks by alerting you to a possible insecure website or download location. For more information, see What is SmartScreen Filter and how does it protect me?
Pay attention to Windows SmartScreen notifications. Run unknown applications downloaded from the Internet with caution. Such applications are very likely to be insecure. When you download and run an app from the Internet, SmartScreen uses its reputation information to alert you if the app is unknown and might be malicious.
Keep Windows up to date. Microsoft regularly releases specific security updates to help protect your computer. Updates can prevent virus and other malware attacks by closing possible security vulnerabilities.
Turn on Windows Update so that Windows will automatically receive these updates.
Use firewall .Windows Firewall or any other firewall application can notify you of suspicious activity when a virus or worm virus tries to connect to your computer. It also allows you to block viruses, worms, and attackers that send potentially dangerous applications to your computer.
Use browser privacy settings . Some websites may try to use your personal information for targeted advertising, fraud and identity theft.
Make sure User Account Control is enabled . If you make changes to your computer that require administrator rights, User Account Control will notify you and prompt you to approve the changes. User Account Control prevents viruses from making unwanted changes. To open User Account Control, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search .
