Which cordless stick vacuum offers the best performance for your home. How do popular brands compare in suction power, battery life, and versatility. What features should you prioritize when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner.
The Evolution of Cordless Stick Vacuums: From Convenience to Power
Cordless stick vacuums have come a long way since their inception, transforming from mere convenience tools to powerful cleaning machines. In recent years, technological advancements have significantly improved their suction power, battery life, and overall performance, making them serious contenders against traditional corded vacuums.
The market has seen a surge in options, with brands like Dyson, Tineco, Hoover, and Black+Decker leading the charge. Each manufacturer brings unique features to the table, catering to different consumer needs and preferences.
Key Advantages of Cordless Stick Vacuums
- Portability and ease of use
- Versatility in cleaning various surfaces
- Space-saving design
- Quick setup for spontaneous cleaning sessions
Dyson: Redefining Cordless Cleaning Power
Dyson has consistently been at the forefront of cordless vacuum technology. Their stick vacuums are renowned for their superior cleaning performance, especially on carpets and rugs. The Dyson V7 Motorhead, for instance, offers exceptional suction power that outperforms many competitors in its price range.
Are Dyson cordless vacuums worth their premium price? For many users, the answer is a resounding yes. The combination of powerful suction, innovative features, and sleek design makes Dyson vacuums a top choice for those seeking high-performance cleaning tools.
Dyson V7 Motorhead: A Closer Look
- Powerful suction for deep carpet cleaning
- Sufficient battery life for most apartments and small houses
- Versatile 2-in-1 design (stick and handheld)
- Hygienic bin emptying system
While Dyson vacuums excel in performance, they do have some drawbacks. The top-heavy design and trigger-style power switch can make them uncomfortable for extended use. Additionally, their higher price point may not fit everyone’s budget.
Tineco: Balancing Performance and Comfort
For those seeking an alternative to Dyson, Tineco offers a compelling option. The Tineco Pure One S11 provides a balance of performance and user comfort, addressing some of the ergonomic issues associated with Dyson models.
How does the Tineco Pure One S11 compare to Dyson models? While it may not match Dyson’s raw suction power, particularly on thick carpets, it offers several unique features that enhance the overall user experience.
Standout Features of the Tineco Pure One S11
- Better weight balance for comfortable handling
- Locking power switch (no need to constantly squeeze a trigger)
- Dirt-detection sensor for efficient cleaning
- Swappable battery packs for extended run time
- LED headlight for improved visibility
The Tineco Pure One S11’s dirt-detection sensor is particularly innovative, helping users focus their cleaning efforts where they’re most needed while preserving battery life. This feature can be especially useful for quick touch-ups or targeted cleaning sessions.
Budget-Friendly Options: Hoover and Black+Decker
Not everyone needs or can afford a high-end cordless vacuum. Fortunately, brands like Hoover and Black+Decker offer more affordable options that still provide decent cleaning performance for everyday tasks.
Hoover Linx: Reliability on a Budget
The Hoover Linx has been a staple in the cordless vacuum market for nearly a decade, building a reputation for durability and consistent performance. While it may not boast the advanced features of premium models, it offers reliable cleaning power for homes with primarily hard floors or light carpeting.
- Self-standing design for easy storage
- Consistent performance over time
- Ideal for quick cleanups and bare floors
- Affordable price point
Does the Hoover Linx’s lack of handheld functionality limit its versatility? While it’s true that the Linx doesn’t convert to a handheld vacuum like some of its competitors, its focused design as a stick vacuum contributes to its reliability and ease of use for floor cleaning tasks.
Black+Decker PowerSeries Extreme: Surprising Power at a Low Price
The Black+Decker PowerSeries Extreme offers impressive cleaning power for its price range, particularly on carpets. It’s an excellent choice for budget-conscious consumers who don’t want to compromise on carpet cleaning performance.
- Strong suction on short to medium-pile carpets
- Compatible with common Black+Decker power tool batteries
- Affordable spare batteries and parts
- Convertible to handheld vacuum
What are the trade-offs of choosing a budget cordless vacuum? While the Black+Decker PowerSeries Extreme offers strong cleaning performance, it does have some limitations. The dust bin design can be cumbersome, and replacement filters may not always be readily available. Additionally, its performance on bare floors is adequate but not exceptional.
Premium Performance: The Dyson V15 Detect
For those seeking the pinnacle of cordless vacuum technology, the Dyson V15 Detect represents the cutting edge of what’s possible in this category. This high-end model pushes the boundaries of cleaning performance, rivaling many corded vacuums in its ability to deep clean carpets.
Innovative Features of the Dyson V15 Detect
- Laser dust detection on hard floors
- LCD screen with real-time performance data
- Piezo sensor for particle counting and size detection
- High-torque cleaner head with anti-tangle technology
- Extended battery life suitable for whole-home cleaning
Is the Dyson V15 Detect’s advanced technology truly beneficial for everyday cleaning? While some features may seem like high-tech gimmicks, many users find that tools like the laser dust detection and particle counting capabilities genuinely enhance their cleaning experience. These features can help identify areas that need more attention and provide reassurance that even microscopic particles are being removed effectively.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Cordless Stick Vacuum
With the wide range of options available, selecting the right cordless stick vacuum can be challenging. Consider the following factors to make an informed decision:
1. Cleaning Performance
Evaluate the vacuum’s suction power and its ability to clean different surfaces, including carpets, hard floors, and upholstery. Look for models with adjustable power settings to optimize performance and battery life.
2. Battery Life
Consider the size of your living space and your cleaning habits. Longer battery life is crucial for larger homes or thorough cleaning sessions. Some models offer swappable batteries for extended run time.
3. Filtration System
For allergy sufferers or homes with pets, a high-quality filtration system is essential. Look for vacuums with HEPA filters or advanced cyclonic filtration to capture fine dust and allergens effectively.
4. Attachments and Versatility
Consider the included attachments and the vacuum’s ability to convert to a handheld unit. These features enhance versatility, allowing you to clean various surfaces and hard-to-reach areas.
5. Ergonomics and Handling
Pay attention to the vacuum’s weight distribution, handle design, and power switch mechanism. Comfortable handling is crucial, especially for longer cleaning sessions or if you have mobility concerns.
6. Dust Bin Capacity and Emptying Mechanism
A larger dust bin means less frequent emptying, while a hygienic emptying system can make maintenance more convenient and cleaner. Consider these factors based on your cleaning needs and preferences.
7. Noise Level
If you live in an apartment or have noise sensitivities, consider the vacuum’s operational volume. Some models offer quieter operation, which can be particularly beneficial for early morning or late-night cleaning.
The Future of Cordless Stick Vacuums: What’s Next?
As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see further innovations in the cordless stick vacuum market. Some potential developments on the horizon include:
- Improved battery technology for even longer run times
- Enhanced AI and smart home integration for automated cleaning
- More powerful motors in increasingly compact designs
- Advanced filtration systems for improved air quality
- Eco-friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing processes
How will these advancements impact the everyday consumer? As technology improves and becomes more accessible, we can expect to see high-end features trickling down to more affordable models. This democratization of advanced cleaning technology will likely result in better overall cleaning performance across all price points.
Making the Switch: Is a Cordless Stick Vacuum Right for You?
Transitioning from a traditional corded vacuum to a cordless stick model can be a significant change. Consider the following questions to determine if a cordless stick vacuum is the right choice for your home:
- Do you prioritize convenience and quick cleaning sessions?
- Is storage space a concern in your home?
- Do you have a mix of flooring types that require versatile cleaning?
- Are you comfortable with more frequent charging and potentially shorter cleaning sessions?
- Do you value the ability to easily clean stairs, furniture, and other above-floor surfaces?
If you answered yes to most of these questions, a cordless stick vacuum could be an excellent addition to your cleaning arsenal. Many users find that the convenience and versatility of these devices outweigh any potential limitations in battery life or suction power compared to corded models.
Can a cordless stick vacuum completely replace a traditional corded vacuum? For many households, particularly apartments and smaller homes, a high-quality cordless stick vacuum can indeed serve as the primary cleaning tool. However, some users with larger homes or specific cleaning needs may choose to keep a corded vacuum as a supplement for deep cleaning sessions or specific tasks.
Maintenance and Care: Extending the Life of Your Cordless Vacuum
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your cordless stick vacuum, regular maintenance is crucial. Here are some key tips for keeping your vacuum in top condition:
1. Regular Filter Cleaning and Replacement
Clean or replace filters according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. This maintains suction power and ensures clean air output.
2. Proper Battery Care
Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for battery charging and storage. Avoid completely draining the battery before recharging, and store the vacuum in a cool, dry place when not in use.
3. Brush Roll Maintenance
Regularly inspect and clean the brush roll to remove tangled hair and debris. This ensures effective cleaning and prevents motor strain.
4. Dust Bin Emptying
Empty the dust bin after each use or when it reaches the maximum fill line. This maintains suction power and prevents dust and debris from clogging the system.
5. Check for Blockages
Periodically inspect the vacuum’s airway and attachments for blockages. Clear any obstructions to maintain optimal suction and airflow.
By following these maintenance practices, you can significantly extend the lifespan of your cordless stick vacuum and ensure consistent cleaning performance over time.
Cordless stick vacuums have revolutionized home cleaning, offering a blend of convenience, performance, and versatility. Whether you opt for a premium model with cutting-edge features or a budget-friendly option for basic cleaning needs, these devices have become an indispensable tool for modern households. As technology continues to advance, we can expect even more impressive innovations in this category, further enhancing our ability to maintain clean and healthy living spaces with ease.
The Best Cordless Stick Vacuum for 2021
Our pick
Dyson V7 Motorhead
Dyson sticks are much better at cleaning rugs than any other brand’s cordless vacuums in this price range. This base-model Dyson V7 has enough battery life to clean most apartments and some smaller houses on a single charge.
For the money, Dyson stick vacuums are better at cleaning rugs than any other cordless vacuum we’ve tested, and it’s not really a close competition. The thicker the rug and the clingier the debris, the bigger the advantage Dyson has. (Dyson’s product lineup is in a state of flux as of spring 2021, and we apologize if any of these models are unavailable by the time you read this.) The entry-level V7 Motorhead is typically the most affordable option among cordless Dysons, but any of the V7 or V8 models can be a great deal for the right price. The V8 models all have extra battery life and a little extra cleaning power; the V8 Absolute is one of our favorite variants because it comes with a bunch of useful extra tools and is often on sale. Dyson’s higher-end models are even better, if you’re comfortable with the prices (more on those below). Common complaints about Dyson sticks include a short battery life, high price, and mediocre reliability—but those things are true of all cordless vacuums. One true Dyson downside is the handling: These vacuums are top-heavy and have a trigger-style power switch, which can make them uncomfortable to use for a long cleaning session.
Runner-up
Tineco Pure One S11
This cordless stick vacuum has swappable battery packs, as well as a trigger lock (so you don’t have to keep the trigger squeezed). Though it’s not as strong as a Dyson, the Tineco has a dirt sensor and headlight that make up for that by helping you figure out where to concentrate your efforts.
The Tineco Pure One S11 is a weaker but more-comfortable alternative to the Dyson V7. It won’t pull as much dust or hair out of thick rugs as Dyson sticks can, but it’s a decent cleaner overall. The Tineco’s advantage is that it’s much easier to handle than a Dyson, with better weight balance and a locking power switch, so you don’t have to constantly squeeze a trigger. One occasionally helpful feature is the dirt-detection sensor, which preserves battery life and gives you a cue for where you should focus your cleaning efforts. Also, the battery is swappable (rather than built-in, as it is on the V7). So you can extend the run time beyond the regular 30-ish minutes if you buy extra packs (though they’re expensive and often out of stock).
Budget pick
Hoover Linx
This affordable cordless vacuum offers good-enough handling and sufficient power to tackle easy jobs on bare floors, and it comes with a decade’s worth of solid reviews. It doesn’t double as a handheld vacuum, though.
If you’re looking for a cheaper stick that you can use for quick cleanups—or maybe as a workhorse in a home without rugs or loads of thick pet hair—we’re confident that the Hoover Linx will last longer than most of the discount Dyson knockoffs littering Amazon’s listings these days. The Linx has been available for about a decade, building a respectable track record for durability. The battery life and cleaning performance are unspectacular, but they’re fine for the price. You can’t use the Linx as a handheld vacuum, as you can our other picks. But unlike many of its competitors, this stick vac can reliably stand up on its own, for easy storage.
Budget pick
Black+Decker PowerSeries Extreme
This model has surprisingly good cleaning power for the price, and it uses the same common, affordable Max batteries as loads of other Black+Decker power tools. The dust bin is a pain, though.
Buying Options
*At the time of publishing, the price was $170.
If you want a decent cord-free carpet cleaner, but you don’t want to spend much, the Black+Decker Powerseries Extreme is (usually) the least-expensive model we’d recommend. At this relatively low price, it’s surprisingly effective on short- and even medium-pile rugs—at least for gritty types of debris like crumbs or sand. (It’s not as great at digging out pet hair or fine dust.) This vac also runs on the same batteries as a lot of Black+Decker power tools, so spares are plentiful and affordable. The dust bin is atrocious, replacement filters aren’t always in stock, and its bare-floor cleaning is just okay. But we regularly see the Extreme going for $150. And at that price, it’s the cheap stick to beat if you want to be able to really pull debris out of your rugs, rather than just tickle the tops of the fibers.
Upgrade pick
Dyson V15 Detect
This high-end Dyson cleans carpets better than lots of plug-in vacuums, and has plenty of battery life for most homes. It also comes with loads of useful features like a bare-floor brush with a laser headlight, and an LCD with data readouts.
The Dyson V15 Detect cleans better than any other cordless vacuum we’ve tested, and it even beats a bunch of plug-in models. It also has a lot of features that make it easier to use, like a real-time battery-life countdown, suction that automatically increases when it senses dirt, a tangle-shredding comb built into the carpet-cleaning brush, a second cleaning head with a soft-fabric brush for bare floors, a laser headlight, animated maintenance reminders and troubleshooting tips right on the vacuum display, and more. There’s even a built-in dust-particle counter, which is a feat of engineering and also kind of a gimmick. Yes, the V15 is wildly expensive, the handling can be uncomfortable, and we’re not confident that it’s more reliable than cheaper sticks from Dyson or any other brand. You could also opt for a more affordable Dyson V11 or V10 and get many of the same benefits. But the V15 has plenty of useful extras (which we cover below) that make it worth the price premium, if you’re comfortable with that.
Upgrade pick
Miele Triflex HX1
The Triflex’s innovative convertible design makes it more comfortable to use than the Dyson V11, and it’s the next-strongest cleaner behind the V11, too. Only time will tell if it’s sturdier than typical cordless vacs, but Miele has earned the benefit of the doubt.
If you want the most comfortable (and maybe durable) cordless vacuum that money can buy, check out the Miele Triflex HX1. You can convert between two different body styles by rearranging the order in which the parts fit together (no tools needed). In its traditional upright configuration, the Triflex is the most balanced, comfortable, sturdy-feeling cordless vac we’ve ever used. (The modern stick style is fine, too, and it can also separate into a Dustbuster-like handheld vac.) It hugs the ground in a way we haven’t experienced with almost any other battery-powered machine, and (no surprise) the cleaning performance was excellent in our tests (though not quite as strong as that of the top-of-the-line Dyson models). The most common pain point cited by early owners is the hard-to-use dust bin. It’s also Miele’s first cordless vacuum and has been out only since 2020, so we don’t know much about its true reliability and longevity. Early reviews are mostly encouraging, though, and the brand has an excellent track record of making sturdy, dependable appliances of all types, including one of our favorite plug-in vacuums.

OPEC+ sticks to plan for gradual oil output hike, price roars higher
A 3D-printed oil pump jack is seen in front of a displayed OPEC logo in this illustration picture, April 14, 2020. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic
- Oil prices have climbed more than 50% in 2021
- Demand has bounced back, supply struggled to keep up
- U.S. official says oil market ‘of concern’
- OPEC+ wary of any new coronavirus surge, source says
- Russia’s Novak says demand tends to ease in fourth quarter
LONDON, Oct 4 (Reuters) – OPEC+ said on Monday it would stick to an existing pact for a gradual increase in oil output, sending crude prices to three-year highs and adding to inflationary pressures that consuming nations fear will derail an economic recovery from the pandemic.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, Russia and their allies, known as OPEC+, have faced calls from big consumers, such as the United States and India, for extra supplies after oil prices surged more than 50% this year.
OPEC+ “reconfirmed the production adjustment plan”, the group said in a statement issued after online ministerial talks, referring to a previously agreed deal under which 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) would be added in November.
Brent crude roared above $81 a barrel on news that the group would stay with its plan for gradual additional production, rather than offering more supply to the market.
“We will be monitoring the situation, as we know, demand usually falls in the fourth quarter,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said after the talks, adding that he believed the market is now balanced.
An OPEC+ source had told Reuters shortly before Monday’s ministerial talks that the group had faced pressure to ramp up production faster, but added: “We are scared of the fourth wave of corona; no one wants to make any big moves.”
The group agreed in July to boost output by 400,000 bpd a month until at least April 2022 to phase out 5.8 million bpd of existing production cuts – already much reduced from the huge curbs that were in place during the worst of the pandemic.
Demand has bounced back swiftly, while supply has been disrupted by factors that include hurricanes that have hammered U.S. production, and low levels of investment across the industry during the depths of the pandemic when demand cratered.
A senior aide to U.S. President Joe Biden met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia on a range of issues last week, saying oil was “of concern”. India, another big oil consumer, has pushed for more supply. read more
“The outcome of the OPEC+ meeting was no surprise, but when prices are at above $80 per barrel Brent, this is a level that makes customers uncomfortable and producers happy but cautious,” consultancy Rystad Energy wrote.
Analysts had said they expected uncertainty about the impact on demand from variants of the coronavirus, which threaten fresh economic disruption, to weigh on OPEC+ decision-making.

Roku

How Long Will JackĂ©e Harry’s Paulina Price Stick Around ‘Days of Our Lives’? (VIDEO)
Jackée Harry has not only rejoined the world of daytime TV as Paulina Price on Days of our Lives, but she’s also taking part in the DAYS spinoff Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem, streaming on Peacock. The show’s writers have given Jackée’s real estate mogul character a lot of backstory — she’s not only trying to get back the orange diamond (one of the Alamainian Peacock jewels) but she’s hoping to keep secret that her “niece” Lani (Sal Stowers) is actually her daughter.
TV Insider chatted with Harry about how soaps have changed since she made her daytime debut as Lily Mason on Another World in 1983, who took her under her wing in Bay City, working on Beyond Salem, and how long she’s sticking around in Salem.
Read on for the scoop and check out the exclusive clip above from the Friday, September 10 episode of Beyond Salem.
How did your joining DAYS come about?
Jackée Harry: The show’s head writer Ron Carlivati had a character [Paulina] in mind. He and co-executive producer Albert Alarr asked me if I wanted to play it. That’s really what you want as an actor – someone to create a character just for you. The idea of it being [ongoing] appealed to me.
James Reynolds as Abe Carver, Jackee Harry as Paulina Price (Evans Vestal Ward/Peacock)
What sold you on playing Paulina?
She’s rich! [Laughs] I know that sounds so vain and superficial, but being on Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem is like being in a mini-Dynasty. I’m Dominique Deveraux [the role played by the late Diahann Carroll]. I’m Joan Collins [Alexis]! I love Joan and I loved her sister Jackie [Collins, Hollywood Wives]. I always wanted to be Tallulah Bankhead but not in [the movie] Lifeboat. I like to play rich, powerful women who are also glamorous and who have plenty of men… did I mention that?
What are your memories of being on Another World?
When I got Another World, it was the best. I had a job on TV! First, I was on twice a week and then, three times a week. Next, they offered me a contract. I thought I had it made – and I had! I studied under Linda Dano [ex-Felicia]. She taught me everything I know. There were some actors on that show who were not so nice but they were brilliant. That one who played Ada… Constance…
Jackee Harry as Lily Mason on Another World (Al Levine/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank)
Connie Ford. She was a powerhouse.
[Laughs] No day at the beach! Not one single day at the beach! But she taught me about sight-lines. I learned a lot just by listening. Joe Morgan [ex-Abel] and Morgan Freeman [ex-Roy] were on that show, too. You never forget that. So, when I came to DAYS, I had technique. Now, we can do scenes from different shows on different days. It’s definitely more challenging but once you get the rhythm down [you’re OK]. It took me about three or four days. [Laughs] I was like the Exorcist with my head spinning but actors have no fear.
Did you juggle both AW and 227 for a while?
I did. I did both shows at the same time. I was only contracted initially to do seven episodes of 227 so, I kept my soap gig. I commuted between New York and Los Angeles for two years. After I started 227, they changed my contract rapidly, actually. I knew I’d eventually have to give up Another World. I remember the late great Brandon Tartikoff [NBC’s entertainment president] casting me for 227. He was the one who hired me on the spot right after I auditioned.
Very few have successfully brought comedy to soaps. What’s your secret?
Well, doing drama was my first love. I was going to get an Oscar and be this great dramatic actress. I copied an actress named Diana Sands [A Raisin in the Sun] and also Rosalind Cash [ex-Mary Mae, General Hospital]. They were my mentors in terms of my acting style and technique. When I got 227, I was doing Another World, and I was doing a play at night. I was a hustling actor. I still am. I’ve got the chops. I just happen to be funny. When I got on 227 as Sandra and started working with Marla [Gibbs, Mary], my timing got even better.
How much do you like being on DAYS and now, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem?
I like drama and I like the story I have. On Beyond Salem, we’ve added more glamour, more money, more sex against a backdrop of espionage and diamonds and jewels!
Viewers know that Paulina is really Lani’s (Sal Stowers) mother, not her aunt, but the other characters don’t know that yet. When Lani ran after some crooks on Beyond Salem, Paulina cried out, “My baby!”
I know. That means you’ve got to switch over to the daytime show to find out! I like that the writers made Paulina be Lani’s mother. It provides my character with some more background. Paulina has these two different lives going on.
Where do you keep the Emmy, you won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for 227 in 1987?
I recently moved so it’s here somewhere. I’m very proud of it. It means a lot. I wish more people would give women of color roles in which they could show their chops. We have people on shows but they’re not getting the material where they can show what they can really do. We have Viola Davis [How to Get Away with Murder] but she does [mostly] drama. I’m very proud of my Emmy but I’m hoping we get some more Supporting Actresses in a Comedy Series winners who are women of color.
Are you seeing any change?
We are seeing changes in terms of [more shows with] streaming and different platforms. Actors have more access now but will their work be seen by people at the same time like it was back when there were only a handful of major networks? We’d do 24 episodes a season. Now, you have to really look to find a show.
What are you watching these days?
I’m watching Schitt’s Creek. I’m really enjoying it. I’m definitely glued to dramas these days. I liked Mare of Easttown and Big Little Lies. You couldn’t get me away from the television when I started watching Ozark.
Sometimes celebrities come on to a soap for a just a few episodes but you’ve got a nice run going on here as Paulina. Are we going to see you for a while?
For a little longer, yeah, I’m having fun. Paulina’s not bad but she’s wicked. I hope she gets more devious. I’m having a lot of fun. I’m really happy.

Why You Need to Stick to Your Price No Matter What
Skip to content
If you sell anything, whether it is a product or a service, there’s a good chance that at some point you have been asked to provide a discount. Many times it is enticing to offer a discount to secure a new client, or to receive some unexpected work.
But what effect does doing so have on the value of your product or service?
I have seen so many businesses that try to win business by lowering their price to meet the desires of their customers. Many times they do so out of guilt due to a customer saying that that’s all they can pay.
It’s tempting to give in to this at times, but where do you draw the line? Do you just do it for one customer? Or do you do it for every customer who has a similar story?
Rather than offering discounts, you need to offer your product or service at a price that is a good value for the customer, and if you do so they will have a much easier time paying your full price.
It does not matter whether you charge high prices or low prices, what matters is that you are providing more value than you were asking customers to pay.
You need to believe in the value of that what you are selling. If you truly believe that the price you charge is a fair value for what the customer is receiving, you can say no to discounts without feeling bad.
It is only when down deep inside you truly feel that you were overcharging that you end up giving into providing discounts.
But, you may still be asking yourself, “what’s the big deal if I give somebody a discount?”
While it can be easy to think that there is nothing wrong with it, there are actually three ways that providing discounts hurts not only your bottom line, but your brand as well.
3 ways negotiating on price diminishes the value of your brand
- It shows customers that you don’t believe in what you’re charging. Brands that believe 100% in the things they sell, and the prices they charge, never give discounts. When is the last time that you saw Apple having a sale? I’m going to guess you haven’t seen it very often, or ever. The reason for that is that Apple believes 100% that they are selling the best items available for that price. Most people do not expect to ever receive a discount when buying an Apple product. Apple has showed their clients that they believe in what they’re charging. But, unlike Apple there are many brands that seem to have sales all the time. Kohls comes to mind for me. Every time I have ever been in their stores they are having a sale. If I went to Kohls and had to pay full price I would feel that I was being ripped off. They have given me reason to feel that they don’t believe in the prices they are charging.
- It takes something away from the product or service they receive. This may sound crazy, but charging less for something diminishes the value that the customer receives. What do I mean by that? If you buy something for $50 versus buying that same thing for $250, you are far more likely to use it to its full worth if you purchased it for more money. It is the mindset of “getting every penny” out of the item. I have experienced this myself. Times I have spent $50 on a new computer program versus $250, there’s a far better chance that I dive into the $250 program quicker and actually end up using it for the purpose which I bought it for.
- It creates a false price point. I believe this is one of the toughest things to recover from as a brand. Once you have set a price point in someone’s mind is very hard to increase that price point. If your customer feels that your product or service is worth $100, due to you selling it to them at a discount for $100, it is hard to ever get them to go back to the full price you were charging. By giving them a discount you created a false price point in their mind that is lower than that of your actual sales price. If you try to sell it to them for a higher price later on they will always remember that they paid less before, and they will feel as though they are overpaying now. This was one of the problems that many companies experienced at first when using Groupon. After customers came to their business and paid and artificially low price, something that Groupon used to help get customers through the door for businesses, those customers had a very hard time returning to the actual price after the Groupon discount was gone. Instead of leading to gaining customers, many businesses experienced actually losing customers that they had before they offered the sale.
Correctly pricing the products or services that you offer is one of the most important things you can do for your brand.
The key to coming up with the right price, and being able to stick to that price, is to price your products in a way that provides more value than the customer is paying. You always want to leave them feeling as though they “got a deal” at the price that they paid.
Once you have determined the price, based on the value of your product or service, is important to stick to that price. Always. No matter how many sob stories you get, or how many reasons you are given for why someone needs a discount, it is important to always stick to the price you determined.
Doing so will be better for your brand in the long run, even if it costs you a few customers in the short run.

Trekking poles: design features and application
September 25, 2017 | Sergey Kornienko, expert of the Outdoor-center AlpIndustriya on Pervomayskaya
How to choose …
The use of all kinds of sticks and staves began with the inception of tourism as a sport. Sticks allow you to relieve the shoulder girdle on horizontal sections of the path, and on steep sections they serve as an additional fulcrum. (Those who have ever walked under backpacks without sticks probably remember the feeling when their hands simply have nowhere to attach – as a rule, everyone grabs onto the straps of the backpack.)
In the article, we tell the main about trekking poles: design features and materials, selection of length and basis of movement with telescopic poles.
Since the beginning of the mass industrial use of aluminum, tourists quickly mastered ski poles as an auxiliary tool. In Europe, since the late 1950s, they have firmly entered the tourist life. Perhaps history would have stopped there, but ski poles had one significant drawback – a fixed length.Using sticks of fixed length on difficult terrain is inconvenient, and transporting them is even more difficult.

However, without them it was even worse. We had to make compromises – we used ski poles. In our country, since the 1980s, a lot of handicraft designs of telescopic poles have appeared, when the upper half and handle were used from a ski pole, and the lower link was from a cross-country ski pole. This design allowed the segments to be folded into each other. We connected them with screws.
In 1974 the German company Leki produced the first mass-produced telescopic poles. The Makalu model practically does not differ from modern models: the design of three segments is still considered the reference.

Trekking Pole Design
Moving on to the design features. A trekking stick consists of segments of different diameters, a mechanism for connecting these segments, a handle and a tip.
Sticks with coupling
The mechanism that allows you to adjust the length of the stick is perhaps the most important element of the entire structure. The classic collet (clutch) scheme appeared on the first trekking poles and is still used today. The swivel mechanism with the help of a wedging element allows the segments to be fixed in the desired position.
In budget models, the structure is made entirely of plastic, but models with aluminum bushings are more often used. The design is quite simple and has been repeatedly worked out over decades of production. All actuators are located inside the stick, so it is quite difficult to damage them, even if you accidentally step on it. Plastic models suffer from thread wear – it breaks down and the sticks stop fixing. It is impossible to restore the thread.
In general, clutch models are recommended for hiking on simple terrain with light loads. Often, due to the ingress of water, the stick begins to scroll and ceases to be fixed. If the water has time to freeze, then the stick can jam, in which case the mechanism will have to be warmed up and blown out. It is worse if the mechanism is jammed due to the accumulated dirt inside. In this case, the stick must be carefully disassembled, taking care not to damage the coupling. However, this can be easily avoided by regularly cleaning the mechanism.
Sticks with lever clamp
In the early 1990s, Black Diamond introduced lever-type sticks. The original and at the same time simple design allows you to quickly adjust the length of the poles, even with thick mittens.Initially, clamps made of frost-resistant plastic were used, now metal clamps are used in expensive models. The actuation force in such clamps is easily adjustable. In general, this design is considered the most reliable and suitable for hiking in difficult terrain.
Now almost all manufacturers have models with a lever locking mechanism in their assortment. Some of them use both schemes in their models at the same time – both the clutch and the lever – which greatly increases the reliability of the stick.
From time to time, sticks with original segment fixation systems appear on the market. All kinds of internal clamps and stops have not yet taken root in trekking poles and have not significantly influenced the development of the industry as a whole. They are quite laborious to manufacture and often have increased weight and cannot be repaired in field conditions.
Handle
Various materials are also available for the handle. In budget models, this is usually plastic or rubber, which, in general, are suitable for simple hikes. The problem is that the plastic handles quickly cool down and begin to chill the hand, and the hand starts to slide on the wet plastic handle. In addition to the above, the rubber grips are quite heavy. Therefore, sticks with cork handles or foam handles are mainly found in everyday life.
Various material handles: plastic, cork and foam.
The cork handle is light enough and does not freeze, but a wet hand will slide on it.In this regard, the most convenient foam handle: soft, light, it does not freeze and allows you to work comfortably with a stick. As a rule, such handles are produced elongated, with an additional interception, which is very convenient on short steep takeoffs, because there is no need to constantly change the length of the stick ( see photos below: on descents – lengthen, on ascents – shorten ).
In some models, a special spring is mounted in the handle, which reduces shock loads on the hand during movement – this system is called anti-shock.The thing is quite contradictory, because how perceptible and essential is the comfort from the use of anti-shock is a discussed question, but the weight of the stick itself increases. Anti-shock is not widely used in tourism models.
Tips
Trekking pole tips are made of hardened steel and have a long service life. Rings are attached to the plastic body of the tip: small for mixed areas or wide for snow. Small rings should not be neglected: they are necessary so that the stick does not fall between stones and does not get stuck.
Trekking Pole Materials
The most widespread material in the production of trekking poles is still aluminum and its alloys. Inexpensive, lightweight and durable, it is great for sports use. Quite often there are sticks made of carbon, less often – combined structures, when some of the segments are made of carbon, and some are made of aluminum.
First of all, the material affects the weight of the finished product. On average, a pair of telescopic aluminum poles weighs about 500 g, carbon ones – about 400 g.
Carbon has one significant advantage: with its high strength, this material is very light. If weight is a critical factor for you, choose from carbon models. But here, too, there are some nuances. A common story, when on the descent a stick gets stuck between the stones, and you, not having time to take it out, by inertia load it heavily. In such a situation, the aluminum pole will bend in the worst case, but the carbon one may burst. It is important to remember here that if the aluminum segment can still be straightened somehow and passed the route with it, then the carbon will break.
There is also a second important point. Carbon is expensive to manufacture and difficult to process material. Hence, in fact, the high cost of the finished product. There is no ready-made answer for whom and for what conditions a particular material is suitable. If you hike a lot and are willing to pay more to save 100 grams, carbon is your material. If not, then among the aluminum poles, you can find a lot of interesting options.

Tips for using
Trekking poles are very useful as auxiliary equipment. In addition to the main use, they are used to make stretchers, set up tents and awnings, probe the soil, measure the depth of rivers or swamps that need to be crossed 🙂 In conclusion, a few basic recommendations for their use.
How to adjust the length of the poles
To adjust the length, take the extended stick by the handle, the arm at the elbow should be bent at an angle of approximately 90 degrees. This is your base horizontal walking stick length. During the ascent, the sticks are shortened, on the descent – they move apart.
When buying in an online store, you should focus on the maximum length of the sticks. 140 cm – the basic option for growth from 175 and above. Sticks 130-135 cm long are suitable for smaller stature.
How to properly walk with telescopic poles
When moving on a horizontal surface, the rule of uniform support must be observed: you step with your right foot and lean on the left stick, your left leg – the right stick, and so on. This way, you will always have an even support of four points. On an ascent, especially a steep one, shorten the sticks and when moving up do not carry them far, this will allow you to fully use the strength of your hands. On the descent, spread the sticks apart, first confidently push the sticks down the slope, load them, and then go down and so gradually down.
Since the lower segment of the poles tapers towards the tip, in order to avoid spontaneous folding, it is better to adjust the length at the expense of the second segment.
The lanyard should be adjusted so that it does not pinch the hand, and you can freely work with sticks.
It remains to wish you to find your mate. And see you in the mountains!
Nordic walking poles for Nordic walking
Nordic walking poles
Scandinavian walking is a sport, movement during which requires special positioning of the body, arms and legs.In the process, the athlete pushes one hand forward, and the other takes back. Due to these swings, different muscle groups are well worked out.
Trekking canes are used for training. They are used in mountaineering, modern tourism and simply hiking. Beginners even manage to buy Nordic walking ski poles and use them successfully.
The main task of the projectile is to assist in movement over difficult terrain, but they can also be used for normal terrain.
Design, materials and names
By design, subdivided into:
- Foldable.
- Solid.
By material – by:
- Metal (usually aluminum).
- Lightweight, strong, but can deform under severe stress.
- Carbon fiber and fiberglass.
- Stronger, but do not lean heavily on them with all your weight.
- Carbon Walking Poles.
- Lightweight and durable. The price category is slightly higher than the rest of the options.
Folding compact and convenient in terms of transportation (carrying). But if you engage in this sport professionally, it is wiser to purchase whole ones.
Novice athletes find it difficult to determine among the abundance of different options:
- for Norwegian;
- for Swedish;
- for the north;
- for nordic;
- Finnish walking sticks;
The price is the same, which raises even more questions. In fact, everything is much simpler than it seems, since these are all different names for the same product.
The kit does not always include handpiece tips, but they are easy to purchase as an accessory. If the movement will pass on asphalt, it is better to use rubber nozzles. Moreover, it is advisable to choose “boots” (they have a non-standard shape, hence the name). The downward-flaring nozzle and its diagonal tread cut provide more friction through a wider surface contact area.
Selection Features
The cane should be comfortable in your hand. Do not cause discomfort when touched. Be sure to try on a glove (called a “lanyard”) that is attached to the handle. Its convenience largely determines the quality of the model.
It is often necessary to answer a phone call while walking. If you have a lanyard, everything is quick and easy. But when the stick is attached with straps or loops, it takes longer and harder.
Shapes and dimensions
Poles for Swedish walking are produced in a straight or curved shape.Direct ones are more popular and in demand, and therefore are more often found on sale. Curved ones may seem like an unnecessary sophistication, pretentiousness. But some people can really be more comfortable with them, especially at the very beginning of mastering the technique.
How to choose the optimal length of poles for Nordic walking?
Length is of the essence. There are adjustable models that can be shortened or lengthened by twisting-untwisting, but more often fixed ones are purchased.
Finding out the appropriate length is simple: your height (in centimeters) is multiplied by 0.68. Suppose a person’s height is 186 cm. When multiplied by the indicated number, we get the figure 126.48. Hence, it is optimal to choose the size 124-127 cm.
Another way is to measure the distance from the ground to the practitioner’s navel. There should be a thumb at this height while walking.
What types of Nordic walking sticks are there?
All models can be divided into 3 types:
- Foldable.
- Telescopic.
- Fixed.
Fixed
It is better than others able to neutralize vibrations from contact with the ground. As a result, the load on the joints of the hands is significantly reduced. They are considered more reliable due to the lack of many parts. They weigh little. Suitable for people who are overweight, elderly or undergoing rehabilitation. The “vibration damping” is influenced not only by the shape, but also by the material of manufacture.
Cons:
- you can make a mistake during the purchase, so ordering Nordic walking poles as a gift without trying on is not the best idea;
- is not customizable for the athlete;
- is relatively inconvenient to store;
- is difficult to transport (compared to other species).
Sliding
These models are called telescopic. In appearance, they resemble tubes inserted into each other and fixed in different ways. The cost and quality itself depends on the material and the fixture.
There are two-knee ones. The more parts, the more compact the assembled model. But there is a problem with disassembly: it is not easy to bring them into a “working” form. Three-knees weigh more, reduce vibration worse, but are more convenient to transport and store.
Folding
Folds up 3 or 4 times, inside there is a special cord for tension. When the equipment is folded, all three sections are “suspended” by a cord. It looks like nunchucks. When it is necessary to bring it into “working condition”, a special button is pressed. Can be quickly assembled, disassembled, adjusted in length, applied to various sports activities.
Of cons:
- the cost of the “cane” in this design is significantly higher than for other models;
- are less stable and reliable in terms of withstanding loads.
Fixed ones need to be carried in the hands or carried in a car, telescopic fit in a sports bag (they may look a little, but for most people this is not a problem), and foldable fit in a backpack or even in a handbag.
Handles and Locks
Are of much more importance in selection than is commonly believed. The level of comfort during classes directly depends on the material and design features of these elements:
Handles are:
- rubberized;
- from neoprene;
- from ethylene vinyl acetate;
- cork;
- combined.
There are 2 types of stick holders:
- Collets. They look like plastic petals placed in a circle on a screw. In the process of twisting, the latch is lowered, the plastic parts move apart, and when twisted, vice versa.
- Eccentric (clip). Similar to a lever in the closed position. Reliable. The main thing is to clarify whether the tightening is adjustable and what the base is made of.
Some recommendations:
- If you know the size for sure (you have rented the “canes” or from friends), I am sure that this size is ideal for you and there is space for storage – buy a fixed length.
- Will several people use walking sticks (not sure about the size)? Better to buy a telescopic one.
- In the case when the place for training is far from home, it is better to give preference to “two-knees” or “three-knees”.
- Hold the selected model of Norwegian poles in your hands. It is important that the grip has a rubberized surface. Take a closer look at the options with cork handles, which allow you to work out in hot weather without gloves (the cork will quickly absorb moisture and sweat).
- Feel the handle, pay attention to its slope, to the nubs. Check if the lanyard detaches.

What are the fences | Metal fences
The main modern types of metal fences are:
But in this article we want to talk not only about modern metal fences, but also about fences in general – about their types, materials from which they are made, ways of using various fencing systems.
When buying a plot of land, the first action of any owner on it will be the construction of a fence. So that both he and others have a clear idea of where the border of his site lies. Therefore, outside the city, you can very often see a fenced site without a house, and almost never – a house without a fence.
During construction, a temporary fence is usually erected, which will not interfere with construction equipment and performs exclusively the function of a fence. At the end of the construction, it is removed and beautiful and reliable metal fences are installed, which will not only protect the territory, but also demonstrate to others the status, worldview and even the character of the owner.
It can be easy to determine what kind of people live here by the fence and gates.
So, the area behind the fence with forged ornaments and the owner’s coat of arms on natural stone pillars is likely to belong to an open, but vain person, and a person with a secretive character would be more likely to correspond deaf brick three-meter fence. For pensioners, the dacha may be fenced off with a neat wooden picket fence, and the young family will choose a fence with a chain-link netting.
A plot facing a busy street is most often enclosed with a fence filled with profiled sheet, and for some reason, behind the fences made of concrete sections, you can often see freight transport on which the owners of the plot work. When choosing a fence for your site, you should check with the local authorities about the restrictions on the use of solid fences in this locality. So, often a blank fence can be installed only along the street, and between neighbors either it is not possible at all, or it is possible, but only with their written consent.
1. The most popular option is a chain-link fence (woven wire mesh with diamond-shaped meshes) with a polymer coating or from a galvanized chain-link mesh. The mesh can be either simply stretched between the posts, or attached to horizontal guides fixed to the posts (tension wire, metal rod). There is also an option with a chain-link mesh stretched in rectangular welded frames (sections) from a metal corner.
2. Instead of a chain-link mesh, a rolled welded mesh can also be used (consists of wire rods welded to each other, located perpendicular to each other, with a square or rectangular cell), which can be: not galvanized, galvanized, or galvanized and coated polymer (PVC) coating.Such a mesh is mounted on the posts in almost the same way as a chain-link, with the only difference that for its installation a special device is also needed to ensure the tension of the mesh.
3. Another option for a mesh fence are panel (sectional) mesh fences with stiffeners (so-called 3D fences) or with double horizontal bars (so-called 2D fences), which are welded mesh in the form of fencing panels (sections) made of galvanized wire with a diameter of 4, 5 or 6 mm with large cells (50×100-50×215 mm).Such panel metal fences are usually coated with powder paint or polymer (PVC) coating. When installing such welded fences, the pillars are concreted in the ground or installed on the base, and the panels are attached to the pillars with special clamps.
4. For filling blind fences, a profiled metal sheet is most often used, which is attached to horizontal guides from a profiled pipe (lags). Sheets of a metal profile in such fences are overlapped with each other and attached to the guides with drill-tipped screws (roofing screws).Often, the fence is reinforced and pillars are made as high as the fence, and a third profiled pipe is launched from above, which makes it a reliable barrier to grass and bushes from a neighboring area.
5. A fence with sections made of welded lattice can be either utilitarian, outwardly very simple, or quite beautiful. Based on this, as well as the type, quantity and diameter of the reinforcement used, the price of such a fence may differ significantly. The sections for such a fence are based on reinforcement rods of square or round cross-section, which are mounted vertically on horizontal rails, and various decorative elements can also be included.
6. The metal grill can be made not only from standard fittings, but also hand-forged. The only drawback of this type of fencing is the rather high manufacturing cost. But you need to understand that a wrought-iron lattice, as a rule, is a real work of art, which is one of the main decorations of the site and can compete in attractiveness with the house itself.
7. Most often, wooden fences are made with one-sided sewing (solid or not solid). As a rule, the boards in the fence are nailed vertically to horizontal rails, although there are options when the horizontal arrangement of the boards in the fence is used. For durability, the boards are impregnated with special compounds to increase the service life, painted or varnished. There are varieties of very interesting playing around with this variant of the fence.
8. Double-sided stitching is also often used in wooden fences. …This approach significantly reduces wind resistance and at the same time provides reliable protection from indiscreet glances.
9. There are variants of wooden fences, consisting of thin boards curved between rails, which can be either vertical or horizontal. Boards in such a fence are laid according to the same logic as the rods in the wattle fence.
10. Reinforced concrete fences look reliable, durable, one might say, monumental.
Due to the fact that industrial enterprises and various closed institutions were often fenced with such fences, they are rarely used to fence country houses.Reinforced concrete fences consist of standard self-standing sections or sections with special legs, which are inserted into concrete pedestals (glasses), similar to a pyramid truncated from above.
There are also options for concrete sections with attachment to concrete pillars, and these sections can be either from one monolithic slab, or from several low but long concrete panels that are stacked on top of each other and held by grooves in the concrete pillar. If the lower panels of such a fence are deaf, then the upper one is usually openwork. The undoubted plus of such a fence is its durability and strength. You just need to make sure that the supports under it do not wash away and the fence does not fall, it does not require any other maintenance.
11. Brick fences are not inferior to concrete ones in strength, but, unlike concrete ones, they require a separate foundation.
The high price of such a fence is due to both the cost of materials and the laboriousness of construction. Nevertheless, it is brick fences that are better than others that are able to demonstrate to others the high status of the owner of the site.
Brick fences can be decorated with natural stone or even plastered. This is a rather laborious task, but if the status of the house obliges, then such a decision in decoration no longer seems excessive.
12. Fences made of large wild stone look very brutal. They are reminiscent of the times of the Roman Empire, when the fences around the possessions were protection from the raids of the barbarians. This option of the fence will be an interesting way out for rocky areas, stones from which you still need to remove somewhere, otherwise you can make an original fence out of them.
13. If you decide to make a fence of wild stone, then it is not at all necessary to lay stones on cement mortar, you can use a metal mesh as a permanent formwork. Typically, this solution is used for the construction of retaining walls on slopes, but as a fence, this structure will look modern and original.
14. Recently, various options for plastic fences began to appear on the market. These can be factory-made plastic fence sections, and, for example, sheets of cellular polycarbonate. From the latter, rather interesting translucent fences are obtained, which do not create shadows and at the same time protect from the wind and immodest looks.
Separately, it is worth highlighting the issue of the foundation for the fence.
If metal pipes simply hammered into one meter or more are suitable for attaching mesh fences, then for deaf or heavy fences, the foundation should be more solid. In the case of blind fences, strong wind loads arise that can overturn or deflect the fence posts.
For a fence made of profiled sheet, it will already be difficult to do without concreting the pillars, although an alternative option may be to use thin screw piles as pillars. The next option in terms of reliability is pouring a shallow strip foundation under the fence (with mandatory expansion joints no further than every two meters). It will be able to withstand almost any fence, except perhaps a brick one. Under the self-standing concrete sections, it is enough to make a sand and gravel cushion in order to minimize the unevenness of possible soil subsidence.
Gate
The fence is not the only part of the site fencing; any normal fence must have a wicket and a gate for cars to enter. The gate is the most expensive part of the fence, which is due to both the greater complexity of their design and the large amount of materials used. Swing gates and sliding gates are the most common gate options. Swing gates are usually simpler and cheaper and are actually two short sections of fence hinged to posts. If you rarely enter the site by car, then there is no point in overpaying for the sliding gates. The most inexpensive sliding gates are more than two times more expensive than the most inexpensive swing gates.
Swing gates, according to SNiP, must open inside the site.
In sliding gates, the sash rolls to the side along special guides
.
The main advantage of sliding gates is that when they are opened, they do not require a lot of free space to move the leaves, but simply roll back along the fence. In comparison with swing gates that open inside the territory (according to the current SNiP), this is more advantageous in that it allows you to park the car actually close to the gate, and not at a distance necessary for the free opening of the doors.
This becomes especially true in winter, when the sliding gates can simply be rolled back, and before the swing gates, you will first have to clear the snow.
The filling of both sliding and swing gates is usually done in the same way as in the main fence (of course, if it is not made of stone), although sometimes they try to make the gate more beautiful and aesthetic.
For the posts holding the gate, a better foundation must be provided than for the fence posts, since they must not only withstand the weight of the fence and possible wind loads, but also must not deviate from the vertical due to the weight of the gate leaves.
It is important to take into account that the load vector of swing gates changes by 45 degrees when the gate leaves are opened. Drives for automatic opening of sliding gates are much simpler in design and, as a result, are significantly cheaper than drives for swing gates, which need at least two (one to open each leaf), and even work synchronously with each other. Thanks to automatic drives, the gate can be opened and closed by a command from the remote control, which allows you not to leave the car to open or close them, which becomes especially valuable in bad weather.
The automatic gate opening function also reduces the risk of car theft, which in the case of manual opening is quite large, since the driver who comes out to open or close the gate leaves has to leave the car on the street open, and often with the engine running.
Whichever type of fence you choose for your home, remember to maintain a consistent style and price range. Serious discrepancies in the price of the fence and the house behind it or their different style solutions will give out bad taste to the owner and will not affect the estimated value of the entire object for the better.
Mikhail Shevchenko
Nowadays more and more people prefer strong, but light and transparent 3D fences. This is due to the desire to keep up with the times.
The trend is also supported by the new owners of “specific” plots, wishing to contemplate the beauty of nature, and not a blank brick fence. Also, many began to understand that in the presence of a solid fence, the air will stagnate on the site, the territory will not be ventilated, and this is uncomfortable, especially on a hot summer day.
The issue of visibility is easily resolved: climbing plants, such as clematis, are planted next to the fence, and the welded mesh fence in a couple of years turns into a well-ventilated, but invisible green fence on a solid metal base. Also, a big plus of such a fence is that the 3D fence does not require any special maintenance and is very durable.
When choosing a 3D fence, the main thing is the quality of the material. Beware of counterfeits! Pay attention to the availability of samples from the seller, clarify and compare technical parameters, be sure to require confirmation of the information you receive from the manager. Such confirmation can be both the test reports of the fence materials and documents confirming the quality (certificates), as well as the personal experience of people who have already become the owners of 3D fencing. You can also ask to name the installation sites, drive through the facilities and see how it really looks. For example, in our company, any of the managers always provides information of interest to the client, confirming the quality of the fences.

Expert Advice: Choosing Ski Poles The relevant question is, what are the poles for at all? It would seem, why do they, on a snowboard ride without sticks and no one complains? It is clear that you can push off – is this an advantage of a skier over a snowboarder, get to the lift, or get out of a snowdrift, but in the skiing itself? In fact, sticks are balance weights. With regard to ski poles, they can be divided into cross-country and mountain. Cross-country ones differ from mountain ones, first of all, in size. Running sticks are selected in height almost under the armpit, they are quite high, and the rings are different, they are larger in diameter so that they do not sink so much in the snow, and the sticks themselves are thinner. A ski pole, it’s a little shorter. How it is selected: it must be turned over, put on the handle, the hand under the ring and in this position the hand at the elbow should form a right angle. It is safe to say that the more expensive the stick, the lighter it is. There are sticks made of carbon fiber, carbon fiber and other technological materials, respectively, the more technological the stick, the more expensive it is. There are sticks that are thin and withstand decent loads. But, at the same time, as the professionals say, a ski pole does not have to be very strong. Because it has been proven more than once that when a skier falls at speed, the stick must either bend or break. If the stick is too strong, then the injury rate increases. Conventional mid-price sticks are made of aluminum. Previously, both bamboo and fiberglass were in fashion, but life has shown that all this is complete nonsense. In my opinion, the best is a regular aluminum stick. It is light, and at the same time, it bends, and this is very good, because when falling, a skier has much less chance of damaging himself about it. Here are some complaining, I rented sticks, fell, but they broke, on the contrary, we should rejoice, these were good sticks and good rental with normal equipment. And sticks should be treated as a consumable. Pay attention to the handle of the stick, there are even manufacturers, for example “Leki”, which are separately engaged in the production of pens, some even come with gloves. Also, for safety reasons, special locks are made so that when the lanyard falls, it unfastens. So if this moment is taken into account when choosing sticks, it will also affect safety for the better. The handle should be comfortable, not slip. When some materials are added to the handle, for example, cork or rubber, it is more convenient to grip this stick.Ordinary cheap plastic freezes in the cold, slips and is not comfortable. Pole rings are often sold separately, the rings themselves are generally not large, because skiers mostly ride on groomed slopes. If you are engaged in freeriding, then, of course, you can put yourself some kind of wide ring. There are stick models that come with several rings. As for the sports sticks, the slalom stick is ordinary, straight, and the stick for a giant, faster discipline, has a bend that, as it were, fits the body for greater aerodynamics. The main stance of the skier is what – the legs are bent, the arms are in front, and when the sticks are correctly selected, not very heavy, matched in size, in size, they serve as balancers. In principle, you may not use them at all for repulsion, but they add stability. You can even ride with or without sticks as an experiment, the difference is immediately felt. But children are not recommended sticks until a certain age. Because, firstly, this is a reason to arrange a battle on them, and secondly, it is still unsafe for a child.Children often fall, and sticks are an unnecessary element that can contribute to injury. It used to be, when they set the riding technique, forced, as they say, to fix the injection, as if to go around your own stick, now this is not so critical, the equipment has changed, and a lot of different techniques have appeared. Well, if we talk about what kind of poles there are other than ski poles, we can say a couple of words about the global trend that seems to have reached us – these are poles for Finnish walking. Recently, elderly people have come – they ask, do you have such sticks? It seemed to me interesting, the ladies are 70 years old, but they move, they don’t sit still. So, ordinary ski poles are also used for Finnish walking, but there are also special ones. In order of general development: what are they like – these are such short sticks, with a rather comfortable handle, telescopic. We untwist, install the size that we need, fix it, and they are ready for use. And so I became interested in this question, what is the point, you can just walk without sticks. And it turned out that this walking, in itself, evenly distributes the load. When we just walk, the hands practically do not work, and in this case, the hands also work, so the load is evenly distributed, and you can go a greater distance. By the way, it is very convenient to climb uphill. In general, sticks are an important piece of equipment that should not be neglected. There are many varieties, some are not intended for riding at all, so we choose carefully and use it with pleasure. Thank you for your help in preparing the article. Sports shop “SkiSportService” . Large reserves in UGS facilities by the end of winter will lead to lower gas prices in 2020 – Novatek | 30.01.20
The price environment on the gas spot market may become weaker in 2020 if by the end of the winter period gas reserves in underground gas storage facilities (UGS) are above average. This opinion was expressed to TASS by the deputy chairman of the board of Novatek, Russia’s largest independent gas producer, Mark Gitway.
“Weather is a very strong factor in natural gas demand and we are seeing relatively mild winters in many regions. As a result, we have more leftovers (gas in underground storages – TASS comment), ”Jitway said.
“I think that if we come to the end of the winter season with large gas reserves, we should expect a relatively weaker price environment in the spot market in 2020. Thus, the main question this year is whether our natural gas reserves will be above average or not, ”he added.
Talking about the impact of low prices on ongoing LNG projects, Jeetway called it a double-edged sword. On the one hand, projects designed, for example, for 40 years, will inevitably face periods of price volatility during their economic life. “Ultimately, it all depends on whether you, as an investor, can be price competitive in order to survive or not. It is obvious that the market is now negative in terms of LNG spot pricing, ”Jitway said.
At the same time, according to Jeetway, the current price environment does not affect many long-term contracts, which are calculated using a formula linked to the oil price index.“Moreover, the number of transactions on the spot market today is about 35-37%. Thus, you still have many LNG contracts that are not linked to current spot prices, ”said a Novatek spokesman.
On the other hand, low prices make it possible to compete with cheap coal and increase gas demand. “I think that a period of price declines should stimulate demand for natural gas. And this is good for the industry in the long term, ”Jitway concluded.

Leki Poles
Brand Leki from Germany is a legendary manufacturer of high quality trekking poles, ski poles and Nordic Walking poles. The history of the company began 60 years ago, and during this long time the sticks have become very light, compact and technologically advanced. An interesting and truly unique development was the Trigger lanyard-gloves, which allow you to unfasten the stick from the lanyard and fasten it back without removing the lanyard from your hand.
Trekking poles Leki are mainly folding poles made of several sections made of aluminum or carbon. To fix the sections, reliable collet locks are used, as well as convenient SpeedLock for quick adjustment of the length. It is worth buying trekking poles for long hikes and walks in nature, because they significantly relieve the knees and make movement on difficult terrain much more comfortable and easier, providing stability.Especially the effect of use is noticeable on steep descents, where the load on the legs is maximum. Trekking poles Leki Eagle, Cristallo, Journey, Voyager, Khumbu, as well as the legendary model Leki Makalu are very famous and favorite among mountain tourists. Leki also paid attention to special women’s models – for example, Leki Cressida. The innovative Leki Micro Vario range of poles includes trekking poles that fold very compactly and fit into a small carrying case that can be placed right in your backpack. In addition, the models from this line are very light (fold in the shape of the letter “Z”). The collection is complemented by rings for the winter and summer seasons, caps, tips, etc.
A relatively new category is the trail poles Leki (or “trail poles”), which are designed for cross-country running. For trail running, the most acceptable poles are with a fixed length, that is, those that are not adjustable and therefore do not require locks that make the structure heavier. Also in trail models, the lightest material is often used, creating carbon poles. The lightest trail sticks are the Leki Micro Stick Carbon, Leki Micro RCM, and the Micro Magic and Trailstick models.
Poles for Nordic walking Leki have become especially popular with the development of the Nordic Walking direction in Ukraine, which is an active type of outdoor recreation and sports training, useful and accessible for people of any age, which can be practiced both in nature and in the city park.Traditionally, the most interesting are the models Leki Spin, Leki Instructor Lite, Leki Traveler (Alu / Carbon), which are presented in different price categories and with a different set of characteristics. A nice addition to the collection is accessories for Nordic walking (attachments, lanyards, etc.) for replacing or completing your poles.
