Love this book-makes me cry! It’s a great book for talking to younger kids about 9-11. I focus on the heroes-and Welles Crowther is an amazing hero!

This story is very impactful and helps restore humanity. I appreciate how the author and illustrator were able to make the reader feel like they were there in the World Trade Center on 9/11. I was only 1 years old when the Twin Towers fell and this book helped me truly understand how impactful this was for many people in American that day. In my future classroom, I will use this book to teach my students about September 11, 2001, but also about the importance of showing bravery and stepping up when things are going wrong. Thank you Welles Remy Crowther.

I don’t know how to give anything other than 5 stars to a book highlighting a hero who gave his life rescuing others in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the world trade center. Students at my school (grades 4-6) often have a compelling desire to learn and discuss the events of 9/11, perhaps because their parents remember it as vividly as I do. Sometimes the sheer amount of information and sadness surrounding the event are hard; I love that this book tells an individual story of bravery and makes this tragic event manageable and personal without being too heavy or difficult for a young audience.

This is the story of a man named Welles, who was considered a hero for saving multiple people after the attack on 9/11. After his mother could not find where he was after the attacks, she then finds an article in the newspaper about him and is able to identify him through his red bandanna.

Evaluation
This book was very touching. I believe it was so moving to me because it’s a real story and it affects thousands and thousands of people. Even though it deals with such a heavy topic, it is appropriate for any elementary school age because it handles it in such a light way that is easy for children to understand.

Teaching Idea
The Man in the Red Bandanna is a beneficial book for making connections. The teacher could discuss how airport security was before 9/11. Then, she could read the book and discuss how 9/11 changed and affected airport security and other things around us. Students could write down connections they have to the book or connections about how 9/11 has affected their life, and also write about someone they think is a hero and why.

True story about 9/11.
The man with the red bandana was a hero in helping to get people out of the tower before it fell. Great backstory about how the wearing of the red bandana started when our hero was a young boy.
It was wonderful to see that even though the many people he helped to rescue didn’t know his name, they all recognized him by his red bandana.
Consider your audience before you introduce this book to younger children–the subject matter is gritty, although it’s handled well in this book and the ending for our hero isn’t what we would have hoped for.

A very touching account of the life of one of the many anonymous heroes of 911. Welles Crowther now has a name and his acts on that tragic September day are known by many. I enjoyed learning about Welles, but it was tough to get through the entire book knowing there was no real happy ending. I recommend it highly, though, if anything to honor Welles.

As a child, Welles was given a red bandana by his dad. He carried it with him always. On 9.11.01 he used it to cover his mouth and nose to keep out the smoke as he led 3 groups of workers down the stairs to safety. He was killed when the buildings collapsed.

I read this book aloud to my friend and let me just say, complete tears. This is a great book and I think it is a must read to students and adults. It is defiantly a heart touched book. I believe it’s a great book for younger kids learning about 9/11. I found it for free on Amazon Kindle.

A bandana is a small kerchief with a clear graphic design (such as paisley). Initially, it had a purely practical use: Spanish cattle breeders and American cowboys used a bandanna to protect against dust raised during cattle driving. To do this, the scarf was loosely tied around the neck, leaving a small piece of fabric that could quickly cover the nose and mouth. As cultures have shifted over the decades, the function of the bandana has also changed: it is now also a stylish accessory that can be worn in a variety of ways by the brands Dior, Gucci, Jacquemus and MSGM.

I am a big fan of bandanas, I have about five of them. I always take a couple of them with me on trips, they often help me out: they help me do my hair on wet hair or cover burned parts of the body. In everyday life, a bandana can be worn in a classic way: fold it in half diagonally (you should get a triangle with equal sides), attach the central part to your forehead and tie the ends at the back of your head. If the kerchief is too big, then wrap it around the back with an elastic band, like a tail.

Roll the bandana into a thin strip and tie in a bow from the front up (women) or back down (women and men). On the one hand, you get a kind of headband, which will not only give the image a shade of the 60s, but also gently remove the hair from the face. On the other hand, a more modern underground version.

Tie a striped bandanna around a straw, cowboy or classic fedora or boater hat. Adjust the width of the strip to the size of the hat’s native ribbon, which is provided not so much for decoration as for masking the place where the tulle and brim are fastened. Tuck the ends of the bandana inside, tie in a bow or let it out.

You can also wear a bandana under a hat, baseball cap or panama hat. Twist it into a strip, tie it tightly around the head and tuck the ends inside the fabric. It is better to choose a bandana of a small size, otherwise, when twisting, it will turn out to be too thick – it will puff out from under the headdress or not be put on at all.

The bandana is the perfect accessory for women’s hairstyles, whether in a low ponytail or a high bun. In the first case, tie it around a tight and thin elastic band, in the second, twist it at the base of the bundle (this way it will look much more voluminous and interesting). You can also weave a bandana into a voluminous and long braid.

The bandana can be worn not only on the head, but also on the body – for example, as a crop top. To do this, twist it into a strip 15–20 cm wide and tie it around your chest. The degree of frankness of the image will be knocked down by a denim jacket (or white cotton shirt), worn wide open on top.

To use the bandana as a belt, twist it into a stripe, slip it between the belt loops of your jeans and tie in the front or side. It will be much easier for girls to perform this manner due to the fact that most trousers have a fit at waist level, that is, in the narrowest part of the body. Bandana can be used as a scarf, choker or pioneer tie. In the first case, just throw it around your neck, in the second, tie it tightly around your throat, in the third, fold it into a triangle and tie it back in a knot. Wear a bandana as a decorative element – on the wrist, on the ankle, in the pocket of a shirt or on the handle of a bag. I would not tie a scarf on a classic and strict bag, like, for example, Prada Saffiano, but I can well imagine it on Dior Saddle and other accessories in the style of western, boho, gypsy, grunge and rock. Do not wrap the whole handle of the bag with a bandana, but simply tie it at one of the fasteners with a knot, but not with a bow.

Yulia Yurlova is a photographer. A year ago, the girl took an adult large dog from the Lost Fund and named him Roy. Tyumenka and her dog often visit the city and dream of going to cafes and coffee shops during the day to warm up and have a snack. Whether it is difficult for a girl and her dog to find such places, we found out after talking with the owner of a four-legged friend.

A girl with a small fluffy dog walks into a cafe. A dog named Roy in a red bandana does not leave his mistress for a single step. He immediately fulfills all the commands, and when Julia takes out a treat, she remains to sit still. Together with Roy, Julia strives to spend as much time as possible, but this does not always work out.

— When we go to the city and want to eat somewhere, we have to call different places and ask if they will let us in with a dog. There are very few places where they want to receive us in Tyumen. On the phone they specify what size the dog is. With small ones, you can go to most establishments, but with a big dog, we don’t have such happiness,” the owner of the dog gets upset.

More often than not, Julia hears from cafe and bar administrators that visitors will disapprove of a dog indoors.

– Administrators give several reasons: for example, they say that one of the visitors may have an allergy. That they can’t really know what a dog’s behavior is. But after all, if the dog is always there, I will follow her, – explains the Tyumenka.

like. But her opinion may run counter to the opinion of the owners, who always face the choice of allowing or forbidding visitors to enter public places with dogs.

— I am fine with the idea of taking dogs to cafes, because I love them. But it’s hard for me to say how things are in Tyumen, I haven’t monitored this topic. I know that somewhere dogs are allowed. For example, in the park-hotel “Leto-Leto” – I myself saw dogs there. As far as I know, there is a size limit there,” recalls Olga Mikhailova.

But in any business, according to Olga, you need to take into account all scenarios. For example, what to do if not all guests want to see other people’s pets nearby.

– I think that if the owner is responsible for his dog and goes with him to a public place, it means that he has brought him up. Another is unlikely to take her with him to a cafe, says the president of the regional hospitality association. “But we don’t know how other guests of the establishments will react to this. And so for the owners it can always be a certain risk. By getting a guest who loves animals, he may lose customers who are not loyal to them.

The photographer confesses that she is simply sorry to leave her pet alone. He loves her too much and gets very upset when the girl leaves the apartment for a long time. In addition, walking around the city and appearing in public places is also training and an element of education for a four-legged friend who used to be homeless.

– We try to get out into the city so that Roy gets used to people, reacts positively, but once again so that he does not fit. Most people are wary of us, they are more wary. It happened that those who came to meet us crossed to the other side of the street so as not to meet with us, ”recalls the photographer.

If you don’t take Roy with you to the city, he will only get outside during the day and in the evening. Julia wants the places where she and her four-legged friend will be allowed to become as many as possible.

— I’m most interested in traveling with him, but our city is not suitable for dogs. I’m trying to find places where they’ll let us in. I don’t leave Roy alone on the street, because we don’t have places for this, the owner of the dog gets upset.

Despite the difficulties that Yulia and Roy have in the city every now and then, Tyumen continues to look for places where they are welcome. In one of them we notice a sticker that dogs are allowed in. There is even a bowl of drinking water for the pet by the door. Roy briefly appraises her, but walks past. The dog doesn’t make a sound the whole time. A reasonable question arises, how can you keep this charming dog out of the establishment?

. Owners should be responsible for their pets and how they behave. I go out with Roy to public places to raise him to be more reserved and stress-resistant. This is a useful skill, we have to be with him in crowded places anyway. Therefore, it is better to accustom your pet to this in advance.

Yulia admits that she did not train the dog with a cynologist. She brings up the dog together with the young man and tries to accustom Roy to people. While we are having lunch, he leaves Julia only once and approaches a man who is drinking coffee and reading something on a laptop. But the visitor smiles at the dog and scratches him behind the ear. Roy returns to our table and patiently waits for us to go out again.

Tyumen people are very fond of animals, and they have repeatedly confirmed this statement with their actions. For example, in early autumn, workers at a waste sorting plant rescued a turtle. The pet was simply thrown away, after which the turtle went through the press and the bag breaker, but still remained alive.
