Among the variety of sports, you can find disciplines dating back centuries. Lacrosse is a kind of mix of football and hockey, and the ancestors of the sport are the Indians of North America.
The history of lacrosse dates back to the 15th century – the American Indians used this sport for military training and the peaceful settlement of intertribal conflicts. More than a hundred people could go out as part of teams, and lacrosse fields were up to several kilometers long. Before the arrival of the colonists, the Indians had a place to roam.
The modern history of the discipline begins at the end of the 19th century – the first official match took place in 1867 between student teams. The French-speaking population of Canada returned to the popularity of the game, so the name comes from the French la crosse, which means “stick”. At the Summer Olympics 1904 and 1908 lacrosse was included in the official program. The International Lacrosse Federation appeared only in 2008, and its main task is to return the discipline to the Olympic program.
Lacrosse has two teams of 10 players on the field – they are divided into roles of goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders and attackers – just like in traditional football. Players wield sticks with a net, with which they must throw a rubber ball into the opponent’s goal. Players of different roles play in their own zone, so it is impossible to see a defender hitting the opponent’s goal. Visually, lacrosse can resemble field hockey.
Place a bet
Of the most popular bets accepted by bookmakers on lacrosse, the following can be distinguished:
- The outcome of the confrontation. Most bookmakers take into account overtime and offer the capper to bet on the victory of the first or second team. According to the regulations, there can be no draw result – if the winner is not revealed in regular time, the game flows into overtime.
- Handicap. Bettors can bet on opponents with a plus or minus handicap. Handicaps allow you to increase odds if the difference in classes between teams is significant.
- Total. Lacrosse fights are notable for their effectiveness – rivals usually break through the mark of 25-30 goals.
- Long-term rates. The cupper can place a bet on which team will win the World Lacrosse Championship or other major tournament. The World Championship is held every four years, and so far only the teams of the USA and Canada have won victories.
A lacrosse match consists of four periods of 15 minutes, and for each quarter cappers can bet on outcome, handicap and total.
Lacrosse should not be considered as a regular source of income, as tournaments are held infrequently. The situation is further complicated by the fact that information for the analysis of statistics must be sought in English-language sources – in Ukraine, the discipline is still not popular enough, although it is close to the viewer.
Sensational results in lacrosse competitions are rare, because the difference in the classes of teams is great, and before the start of the championship, the bettor can roughly predict who will win the final victory.
Place a bet
Lacrosse is a team game, so the teamwork of partners and mutual understanding in the team are key factors for a cupper. It is necessary to monitor the form of the teams, the performance statistics, the history of personal meetings and possible injuries of the leading players.
The depth of the squad is equally important – the more quality players in the reserve, the higher the chances of adding in the course of the game.
Lacrosse has its own system of temporary dismissals, and cappers need to study the statistics of dismissals and the implementation of numerical advantages. For example, if aggressive teams intersect within the framework of the competition, often earning deletions, there is a high probability of breaking through the totals.
The discipline is characterized by the presence of various variations, and they may have different rules, so the bettor must first study the features of the upcoming tournament in order to place bets correctly.
Lacrosse is not very popular, so cappers bet on it more for fun than for making money. Even among foreign bookmakers, few accept bets on lacrosse. As for bookmakers, “1xBet” offers cappers to bet on the playoff rounds of the Major League Lacrosse and other significant tournaments, and a number of offices, including “Olympus” and others, provide the opportunity to bet on the World Championship. The margin for tournaments is about 8%, and the outcome line still leaves much to be desired.

Why do Canadians dominate hockey? What about lacrosse, curling and Canadian football? – Sports.ru podcasts – Blogs

Maxim Matienko and Yaroslav Susov are in search of Canadian secrets.
Maxim Matienko and Yaroslav Susov continue the Olympic season. The new issue is about hockey in Canada. Why is it so much loved here, how Canadian hockey differs from Russian and how young people are trained here.
It turns out that the training systems in Russia and Canada are seriously different. And even without players from the NHL, Canada has a serious chance of winning the Olympics. Sports. ru hockey writer Yegor Paraskun told about it:
“Now Canada’s dominance in hockey is gradually fading away. There are more and more American hockey players, they even win youth tournaments. But Canadians are the best players of generations. Examples: Conor McDavid and Sidney Crosby. And the reason is that hockey is the central sport for any Canadian. Because he must be able to play hockey, well, or drive lacrosse in the summer, and ice in the winter.
There are a lot of kids leagues and teams in Canada. So it’s available, albeit not cheap. You can no longer just drive the puck on the ice on the pond, and then become a great player. In Canada, hockey is definitely the number one sport, and in the US it is already in fifth place in popularity.
Junior leagues in Canada are top notch. From there, Crosby and McDavid were drafted, the team at the Youth World Cup is one of these teams. Also, players under 20 who already belong to NHL teams but do not play can only enter the junior league: CHL, QMJHL or WHL. The average level of each of them is higher than in the Russian JHL. Because our top juniors are immediately attracted to adult hockey.
Canadians have a lot of great hockey players in Europe too. Last time, at the Games in Pyeongchang, they took too many age groups, now they have changed the strategy – they brought young people from the junior leagues, who are a must-see.
19-year-old Mason McTavish and Owen Power stand out in particular. Most likely, they will have a great career in the NHL, so we are unlikely to see them in international tournaments anytime soon.
Power is 2021 No. 1 pick and world champion (knocked out Russia along the way). An outstanding player, everyone is waiting for him in the NHL, but for now Owen plays in the college league. And so he was able to get to the Olympics.
Mason McTavish is a phenomenal guy. The third draft pick (selected by Anaheim) has already made his NHL debut – played nine games. Great hands, great rides and understands the game. Even if he does not play in the first links of the national team, you need to follow him.
This mix of old and young could very well win the Olympics.”
