What are the best laces for lacrosse boots. How do you choose the right length of laces. What materials are lacrosse boot laces made from. Where can you buy replacement laces for lacrosse footwear.
Understanding Lacrosse Boot Lace Basics
Lacrosse boot laces are an essential component of lacrosse footwear, providing both function and style. These specialized laces are designed to withstand the rigors of the sport while securely fastening boots. Let’s explore the key aspects of lacrosse boot laces:
- Typically made from durable nylon material
- Available in various lengths to accommodate different boot heights
- Come in colors like black and brown to match boot styles
- Engineered for strength and longevity
Why are proper laces so important for lacrosse boots? The right laces ensure a secure fit, prevent loosening during play, and contribute to overall performance and comfort on the field.
Choosing the Correct Lace Length for Your Lacrosse Boots
Selecting the appropriate lace length is crucial for optimal fit and function. Here’s a guide to help you choose:
- 66″ laces for 6″ tall boots
- 76″ laces for 8-9″ tall boots
- 86″ laces for 10-12″ tall boots
- 104″ laces for 14-18″ tall boots
How do you measure your boot height? Start from the bottom eyelet and measure to the top of the boot. This will give you the most accurate length for your laces.
The Importance of Proper Lace Length
Using laces that are too short can result in difficulty tying your boots securely, while overly long laces can become a tripping hazard. Correctly sized laces allow for proper tightening and adjustment, ensuring your boots provide the support and stability needed during intense lacrosse matches.
Materials and Durability of Lacrosse Boot Laces
Lacrosse boot laces are typically crafted from high-quality nylon, chosen for its strength and resistance to wear. This material offers several advantages:
- Excellent tensile strength
- Resistance to abrasion and fraying
- Water-resistant properties
- Ability to maintain shape and tension
How long do lacrosse boot laces typically last? With proper care, quality nylon laces can endure an entire season or longer, depending on usage frequency and playing conditions.
Caring for Your Lacrosse Boot Laces
To extend the life of your laces:
- Avoid excessive tugging when tightening
- Clean laces periodically with mild soap and water
- Allow laces to dry completely before use
- Inspect regularly for signs of wear and replace as needed
Color Options and Style Considerations
While functionality is paramount, the aesthetics of your lacrosse boot laces shouldn’t be overlooked. Common color options include:
- Black – a classic choice that matches most boot styles
- Brown – ideal for earth-toned or leather boots
- Team colors – for a personalized touch (may need to be sourced separately)
Should you match your lace color to your boots or team uniform? This is largely a matter of personal preference and team regulations. Some players prefer a cohesive look, while others use lace color as a way to express individuality within uniform guidelines.
Where to Purchase Replacement Lacrosse Boot Laces
When it’s time to replace your lacrosse boot laces, you have several options:
- Sporting goods stores specializing in lacrosse equipment
- Online retailers like Amazon or lacrosse-specific websites
- Direct from manufacturers such as LaCrosse Footwear
Is it better to buy laces in-store or online? In-store purchases allow you to see and feel the laces before buying, while online shopping often offers a wider selection and potentially better prices. Consider factors like urgency, selection, and personal preference when making your choice.
DIY Lace Replacement Tips for Lacrosse Boots
Replacing your own lacrosse boot laces can save time and money. Follow these steps for a successful lace change:
- Remove old laces carefully, noting the lacing pattern
- Clean eyelets and boot surface
- Thread new laces, mimicking the original pattern
- Ensure even tension throughout
- Tie securely and trim excess if necessary
How often should you replace your lacrosse boot laces? It’s recommended to inspect your laces before each season and replace them if you notice fraying, thinning, or loss of elasticity.
The Impact of Proper Lacing on Performance
The way you lace your lacrosse boots can significantly affect your on-field performance. Consider these lacing techniques for different needs:
- Standard crisscross for general use
- Heel lock lacing for preventing heel slippage
- Window lacing for relieving pressure points
Can different lacing methods improve your game? While proper lacing won’t make you a better player overnight, it can enhance comfort, reduce fatigue, and minimize distractions, allowing you to focus on your performance.
Experimenting with Lacing Techniques
To find the best lacing method for your needs:
- Try different techniques during practice sessions
- Pay attention to comfort and foot movement
- Adjust as needed based on your playing style and foot shape
- Consult with teammates or coaches for advice
Innovations in Lacrosse Boot Lace Technology
As with all sports equipment, lacrosse boot laces continue to evolve. Recent innovations include:
- Waxed laces for improved grip and water resistance
- Reflective laces for increased visibility during low-light practices
- Elastic lacing systems for quick adjustments
- Antimicrobial treatments to reduce odor
Are these new lace technologies worth the investment? For serious players or those with specific needs (e.g., playing in wet conditions), these innovations can provide tangible benefits. However, traditional nylon laces remain a reliable and cost-effective option for most players.
The Future of Lacrosse Boot Laces
Looking ahead, we may see further advancements in lacrosse boot lace technology, such as:
- Smart laces with tension-sensing capabilities
- Biodegradable materials for eco-conscious players
- Customizable laces with interchangeable aglets
- Integration with wearable technology for performance tracking
These potential innovations could revolutionize how players interact with their equipment and optimize their performance on the field.
Common Lacrosse Boot Lace Problems and Solutions
Even the best laces can sometimes cause issues. Here are some common problems and their solutions:
- Frequent untying: Try a different lacing technique or waxed laces
- Lace breakage: Invest in higher quality laces or check for sharp edges on eyelets
- Pressure points: Experiment with alternative lacing patterns
- Difficulty adjusting tightness: Consider an elastic lacing system
How can you prevent lace-related injuries? Always ensure your laces are securely tied and tucked away to avoid tripping. Regularly inspect your laces for wear and tear, replacing them before they become a safety hazard.
When to Seek Professional Help
While most lacing issues can be resolved at home, there are times when professional assistance may be necessary:
- Persistent foot pain despite trying different lacing techniques
- Structural damage to boot eyelets or lacing system
- Custom orthotic needs that affect lacing
In these cases, consult with a sports podiatrist or visit a specialized lacrosse equipment retailer for expert advice and solutions.
The Role of Laces in Lacrosse Boot Maintenance
Proper lace care is an integral part of overall boot maintenance. Here’s how laces contribute to the longevity of your lacrosse boots:
- Even tension distribution prevents premature wear on specific areas
- Regular lace replacement reduces strain on eyelets and boot structure
- Clean laces help maintain the cleanliness of the entire boot
How often should you clean your lacrosse boot laces? It’s recommended to clean your laces whenever you clean your boots, typically after each use or at least once a week during the playing season.
Comprehensive Boot Care Routine
Incorporate these steps into your lacrosse boot care routine:
- Remove laces before cleaning boots
- Clean laces separately with mild soap and water
- Allow both boots and laces to air dry completely
- Inspect and replace laces as needed
- Apply leather conditioner to boots if applicable
- Re-lace boots, ensuring even tension
By maintaining both your boots and laces, you’ll ensure optimal performance and extend the life of your lacrosse footwear.
Customizing Your Lacrosse Boot Laces
For players looking to add a personal touch to their equipment, customizing lacrosse boot laces can be a fun and expressive option. Consider these customization ideas:
- Colored laces to match team colors or personal preference
- Patterned laces for a unique look
- Custom-length laces for perfect fit
- Personalized aglets with initials or numbers
Is customizing your laces allowed in official play? Check with your league or team regulations before using custom laces in games. Many leagues allow personalization as long as it doesn’t interfere with play or violate uniform codes.
DIY Lace Customization Techniques
Try these methods to customize your lacrosse boot laces at home:
- Fabric dye for solid colors
- Tie-dye techniques for multicolored effects
- Fabric paint for detailed designs
- Heat transfer vinyl for patterns or text
Remember to test any customization on a small section first to ensure it doesn’t compromise the lace’s integrity or performance.
The Psychology of Lace Color in Lacrosse
While it may seem trivial, the color of your lacrosse boot laces can have psychological impacts on both you and your opponents. Consider these potential effects:
- Bold colors may boost confidence and assertiveness
- Matching team colors can enhance feelings of unity
- Contrasting colors might draw attention or distract opponents
- Neutral colors could promote focus and reduce visual noise
Can lace color really affect performance? While the direct impact may be minimal, the psychological boost from feeling confident in your equipment can translate to improved on-field performance.
Choosing Lace Colors Strategically
When selecting lace colors, consider:
- Personal preferences and superstitions
- Team unity and identity
- Potential psychological impact on opponents
- Visibility in various playing conditions
Ultimately, choose colors that make you feel confident and aligned with your team’s aesthetic.
Environmental Considerations in Lacrosse Boot Lace Production
As sustainability becomes increasingly important in sports equipment manufacturing, some companies are exploring eco-friendly options for lacrosse boot laces. Consider these environmentally conscious alternatives:
- Recycled nylon laces made from post-consumer plastics
- Organic cotton laces for a natural option
- Biodegradable synthetic materials
- Laces made from renewable resources like bamboo
Are eco-friendly laces as durable as traditional options? Many sustainable laces now offer comparable performance to conventional nylon, though some may have different care requirements or shorter lifespans.
Making Environmentally Responsible Choices
To reduce the environmental impact of your lacrosse boot laces:
- Choose laces made from recycled or sustainable materials when possible
- Properly care for your laces to extend their lifespan
- Recycle old nylon laces through specialized programs
- Support brands committed to sustainable manufacturing practices
By making conscious choices about your lacrosse equipment, you can contribute to a more sustainable sport and planet.

Columbia Battles to 1-1 Draw with Penn
Story Links
Next Game:
at Princeton
10/16/2021 | 4:00 P.M.
NEW YORK — Jake Novoshelski’s 45th-minute header gave the Columbia men’s soccer team a 1-0 lead but the Lions ultimately wound up settling for just one point against visiting Penn Saturday night at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
Columbia (1-6-3, 0-1-1 Ivy) went in front just 32 seconds before halftime when Will DeNight sent in a cross from the far side near the corner flag. Matthew Leong challenged Penn keeper Nick Christoffersen for the ball, which resulted in a deflection right at Novoshelski. Standing a step outside the six-yard box, the sophomore headed a bouncing shot right into the center of the goal to give the Lions the lead.
Penn (4-3-2, 0-1-1 Ivy) came up with the equalizer in the 73rd minute on a hard right-footed shot off the foot of Stas Korzeniowski that just missed the hands of a diving Michael Collodi. That goal would prove to be the final tally of the match with both teams earning their first point of the Ivy League campaign.
“I think over the course of the last few games we have had more consistent moments of controlling the tempo,” Columbia head coach Kevin Anderson said. “I think tonight you saw it. In the first half, we didn’t control as much of it, but in the second half and in overtime I thought we controlled quite a bit of the game despite allowing the goal.
“Now it just comes down to finishing opportunities and quality moments. To be fair, we created a few half chances, the goal and three more clear opportunities. We’ll stay encouraged with the group and keep putting forward our best effort. These guys want to grow and get better.”
Columbia had its chances to take all three points and nearly did it in the waning seconds of the first overtime. With time winding down, Leong sent a ball in from the far corner that Will Todd kept alive. Paolo Primavera then sent it back into the center of the area for Max Gonzalez, but his header as time expired was caught by Christoffersen.
Will DeNight had two very good looks at goal in the final minutes of the second 10-minute session. His first came from inside the left half of penalty area and was a right-footed attempt that curled around the far post. His second came from a few yards outside the six on the right half of the area that he blasted hard and low but also wide of goal.
The final stats showed the two teams played just as even in possession as they did on the final scoreline. Columbia took nine shots on the night, two on goal, while Penn had five of its 11 attempts come on target. Collodi made four saves.
Half of Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium thought Columbia had scored early on. The Lions earned a 12th-minute corner that Ryan Kipness weighted beautifully toward the far post. Keenan Foley rushed in on it and squared up a header that appeared in from the stands but missed just wide of the target.
The Lions pressured a few more times before Novoshelski eventually found the back of the net. Brian Timoney had one of those look when he tried to volley in a cross sent in from distance, but his attempt hit off the wrong part of his laces and skied over the bar.
Columbia plays its next two matches on the road, visiting Princeton for a 4 p.m. kick next Saturday and heading to Dartmouth the week after.

Second-ranked Emmett scores ‘buzzer-beater touchdown’ to stun No. 6 Middleton in mind-blowing comeback, 42-41 – High School Sports News, Scores, Videos, Rankings
MIDDLETON – When Rich Hargitt left his team’s locker room, he immediately sat down on the curve.
The Emmett High School football coach needed a moment to fully process this one – as did the rest of the shocked spectators in attendance.
The No. 2 Huskies scored 14 points in the final 65 seconds to pull off an unbelievable 42-41 win over sixth-ranked Middleton on Friday night – when all the Vikings had to do was kneel out the clock.
“I needed a couple minutes,” Hargitt said. “I tell the kids all the time, ‘We’re all mortal, we’re all gonna die someday, but the memories you make in this life are invaluable.’’ They are an amazing, amazing thing that you get to hold onto for a long time, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the end of that one. ”
Huskies senior quarterback Caden Young connected with senior wideout Caseyn Pearson for a seemingly meaningless 16-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone with 1:05 remaining in the game.
The late score cut Middleton’s lead down to 41-35. Emmett had no timeouts. And the Vikings recovered the pooch onside kick. All they had to do was run out the clock.
But something else came into play – the 4A SIC three-way tiebreaker.
For Middleton to take over the No. 1 seed it had to beat the Huskies by at least 13 points Friday night – something that was firmly in the mind of Vikings coach Bill Brock, who decided to have his offense try and score more points rather than take a kneel down.
The gutsy call backfired when Vikings senior quarterback Ky McClure coughed up the football on a scramble, and Emmett senior linebacker Chase Warner jumped on it. The fumble recovery gave the Huskies the ball back at the Middleton 20-yard line with 26 seconds to go.
“I just feel bad,” Brock said. “I shouldn’t have been so greedy. It doesn’t matter how I rationalize it. It was a stupid decision on my part and one that cost us the game.”
Young completed a 7-yard pass to sophomore wideout Caiden Hinsz near the sideline before scrambling out of bounds for a 7-yard run. The plays set up a first-and-goal at the 6-yard line with just four seconds to go.
“I told our coaches on the headset, ‘There’s no debate. Caden Young will not give this ball up,’” Hargitt said. “He’s going to put it across the paint and he’s going to end it himself.’”
That’s exactly what Young did, too.
He took the shotgun snap, ran to the left, cut towardsthe middle of the field and barreled his way through four Viking defenders to tie the game at 41-41 with no time left on the clock.
“That’s definitely one of the craziest games I’ve been a part of,” Young said. “I’ve never scored a buzzer-beater touchdown, so I can add that to my resume, which is pretty cool.”
Young then turned right back around for his placeholder duties. He fielded the snap cleanly, got it down with laces in for senior kicker Jorge Rivera, who drilled the game-winning PAT for the improbable come-from-behind win.
“These kids are gonna be sitting around boring the living daylights out of their grandkids some day telling them the day they pulled off a 13-point deficit in the last minute and a half or whatever it was,” Hargitt said. “Thank god I got to be a part of that.”
The win puts No. 2 Emmett (6-1 overall, 5-0 4A SIC) in prime position for their second consecutive league title. The Huskies just have to win one of their final two games to secure another conference crown. They host Columbia (2-5, 2-3) next week before closing out the regular season at home against Vallivue (4-3, 3-2).
“I don’t think anybody but us believed in us,””Young said. “We’re still gonna work hard. We still have two games to win if we want to be conference champs for sure. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to go out there, hit them hard and finish out as strong as we can and see what the playoffs have in store for us.”
Young combined for 338 yards of total offense and had a hand in all six of the Huskies’ touchdowns. He ran for a game-high 257 yards and five touchdowns including an 81-yarder on the first play of the second half that tied the game at 21-21.
“He’s the best football player in the state of Idaho, and it’s hands down,” Hargitt said. “I’ve tried to tell people. Some people believe it. Some people don’t. But hopefully they saw it.”
McClure also totaled more than 300 yards of offense himself. He passed for 243 yards and three scores, while running for another 81 and two touchdowns. Tate Johansen hauled in nine catches for 100 yards and a touchdown for the No. 6 Vikings (4-3, 3-2), who will visit Nampa (3-4, 3-2) next Friday.

Field Player Hockey Skates
Modern hockey skates are metal blades attached to a specialized shoe with a plastic holder and used to move on the ice surface of the playing area.
Anatomy of a Hockey Skate
With such a huge variety of options for modern skates and materials used in their manufacture, it is important to know and understand the anatomy of hockey skates. In this way, it is possible to identify and distinguish each specification in different skate models. Even if you are planning to buy the latest high end skates on the market, these skates may not be the best choice for you. Let’s take a look at the elements that make up the skates.
The main body of ice hockey skates is boots , which are usually made of high density plastic, which has a 3D shape of a human foot. Each part of the boot can be made from materials that affect the level of protection and comfort, weight and durability. High quality skates, designed for the most serious of players, incorporate technical materials that provide the most secure fit and can withstand the highest operating conditions while keeping the overall weight of the skate as low as possible.Often, the advanced technology used to make the most expensive skates in the following years moves to cheaper models, usually using less expensive materials.
The tongue of ice hockey skates protects the forefoot and is an important component of fit and comfort. The traditional tongue has a felt lining, which manufacturers still prefer. However, foam pads are becoming more popular because they can be more comfortable, use airtight materials to reduce sweat and odor, and help reduce the overall weight of the skate.
More and more models include foam inside the boot for both padding and improved fit. Liner – Internal surface that includes strategically placed padding for protection and a secure fit. For example, most boots provide extra protection and comfort in the ankle and Achilles area through the use of advanced materials such as memory foam and microfiber lining.
Laces – thin braided ropes of a certain length, threaded through special holes (eyelets) and designed to fix the foot in the boot.
Classic non-paraffin hockey laces provide long-lasting performance while being easy to grip and tighten. Unlike waxed laces, these laces are soft and will not cause any discomfort to your skin. The laces are ideal for those who want to lace up their skates quickly with minimal effort. Waxed (soaked in liquid paraffin) laces are more durable and will keep your foot securely in place.
Back – a protective element on the back of the boot, prevents the Achilles tendon from being cut.Manufactured in the form of a movable or fixed (as part of the body) flap.
Insole is a removable insert that fits into the bottom of the boot and serves as the base with which the foot contacts. The insoles come in a variety of configurations, for example to fit different arch sizes and are made from different materials to provide comfort, odor protection, wettability control and better control of the blade edges due to greater contact with the foot.
The outsole is the rigid part at the bottom of the boot to which the blade holder is attached.Ideally, the outsole should be very stiff to withstand the torque created when the player applies pressure during hard braking or directional changes. The mid to high end skates have a composite sole that provides a good balance between light weight and rigidity.
Blade holder is a plastic stand designed to combine a skate boot with a blade. The material used is usually Polyamide, a thermoplastic material that can be melt-processed into fibers, films or shapes.
The holder is riveted to the sole of the boot and holds the blade. Rivets are fasteners that are used to connect two or more parts. They fit into pre-cut holes in the sole and plastic holder. The fastener made of copper rivets is a round rod that, as a result of deformation, tightly surrounds the walls of the holes and is held in them due to the frictional force. Tubular steel rivets ensure the connection by flaring. In their production, steel, non-ferrous metals and various alloys are used. Skates have from 10 to 14 rivets, depending on the size and manufacturer.
Most holders and blades are one piece, although in more expensive models the blade is removable. The advantage of the two-piece system is that you can change the blades if the edges become dull or the blade breaks. Plus, if the holder breaks – usually due to a puck hit – you don’t need to replace the blade itself.
It is also important to know and understand that each ice hockey skate manufacturer manufactures holders of a certain configuration and blade attachment mechanism that are protected by a patent.
Blades are made of metals of different hardness, and more expensive blades are made of branded steel, which retains sharp edges longer, have coatings that reduce friction and have an attractive finish.
Price
Sure, it would be great to have the best ice hockey skates money can buy, but not everyone is willing to make that investment.Determine how much you are willing to spend and then start looking at models in your price range comparing features. You may be tempted by skates that are a little higher than you expected, or you may even find what you need at a lower price. But keep in mind that skates are the most important piece of hockey equipment you purchase.
Fit and comfort
If you are going to spend many hours in ice hockey skates and put a lot of pressure on them every time you push off or stop, then comfort and convenience should be priorities. You will not be able to go out on the ice if your feet hurt or cramp.
Most skates are available in standard models and there are many resources and tables on the Internet to help you determine which skates fit the profile designed for different foot types. In addition, each manufacturer, depending on the model, offers different padding and lining to help ensure a snug fit without discomfort.
Skates by level
If you play on weekends and do not plan to play hockey at a higher level, or vice versa, you plan to do several workouts a week and expect high performance from skates, then you will need skates of completely different levels. You can splurge on better quality skates than you need, but skates that are inadequate for the task at hand can hold back progress.
Here are just a few things to consider:
- Comfort: The more you play, the more you care about comfort.
- Stiffness: Stiffer boots provide better control and transfer of power.
- Weight: Lighter skates reduce fatigue and help you gain speed.
- Padding: Well-positioned padding provides comfort, protects the foot from puck and club bumps and plays an important role in the fit of the boot.
- Quality blade: harder steel keeps sharpness better and lasts longer.
- Features: Specific features or components of individual skate elements may suit your needs or just please.
The right level for your game will give you the best results on the ice.Hockey skates are divided into three categories by manufacturers: recreational, advanced, and elite.
Recreational level
Skates of an initial (entertaining) level, for those who like active rest looking for an affordable option, who want to go out on the ice and have fun with children or friends, for those who want to master ice skating. These are great starting skates, especially for younger players.
Keep in mind the rider’s weight. While recreational skates are intended for beginners, heavier adults can put more stress on them than intended, leading to premature breaking / deformation of the boot shell. To avoid this scenario, it is worth looking at higher performance skates to save money in the long run, as skates will last longer and won’t have to be changed as quickly.
For a beginner in hockey, a softer boot will be much more comfortable and will be the best choice for those looking to learn how to ice skate. If the boot is too stiff, it is not only uncomfortable, but also interferes with the learning process. Likewise, the outsole is softer at this level to provide additional flexibility.Skates are not made with removable blades, which is normal, because by the time the blade is used up, it will be time to move on to more advanced skates.
Advanced Level
Skates of this level are ideal for players who are confident in their agility and ready to progress and reach the next level. These players are on the ice 1 to 3 times a week playing intermediate level hockey. Skates are manufactured with a stiffer body for better power and maneuverability.Another added benefit of stiffer boots is the increased protection that is needed at a higher level of hockey. These skates are thermoformable, which allows the boot to customize the shape around the foot for a better fit, speeding up the break-in process. Performance skates come with detachable blades in case the blade breaks or the steel life gets close to a minimum as a result of repeated sharpening. The blades are made of high quality steel for long edge life and chip resistance.
Elite Level
Skates are designed for maximum performance, protection, durability and comfort. Players usually go on the ice three or more times a week and play high-level hockey. Most boots are made from composite materials that are the lightest, most responsive, protective and thermoformable. Skates feature technological features such as a fully monolithic, asymmetrical boot design or a one-piece composite lining.Another key point is increased wear resistance and durability. Unlike advanced skates, elite skates are usually made of composite material rather than plastic, and have drain and vents to improve climate and reduce drying time after use. The tongue of the skate is well reinforced and provides the necessary protection for the top of the foot against the hard impacts and more aggressive club impacts typical of high-class hockey. The blades are usually taller, which increases life, grading ability and turning radius. The flagship skates will have blades with a hardened coating that keeps the edge sharp for longer and prevents corrosion.
Care and Maintenance
After every game or practice, the blades and holders should be wiped dry before putting the skates in the bag. Removing moisture will prevent rusting and premature deterioration of the steel. Skates should not be stored in a bag / trunk. Airing your skates will help them dry faster and prevent unpleasant odors. Those who really want to do their best should also remove the insoles and wipe off the condensation that forms under the insoles after each use to prevent premature rusting and subsequent loosening of the steel rivets.
Rivets need to be replaced when they rust because they will eventually fall out and the boot and holder will come loose. The easiest way to extend the life of your rivets is to dry and ventilate your skates after each ride. You can check the condition of the rivets by removing the insole and inspecting the petal-shaped metal parts inside the boot.Ideally, there should be no rust marks on or around them.
It is also worth carrying out an external and internal inspection on a regular basis. Check the condition of the backing material, eyelets, laces, blade holders and the blades themselves. The backing material can be subject to excessive friction, leading to premature wear. Eyelets are also susceptible to corrosion and breakage. If you neglect the possibility of replacement, the laces will eventually begin to cut through the area and deform the hole / eyelet area.If the washer enters the holder / blade area due to the sharpness of the materials, a subtle crack may occur on the holder or blade. Laces need to be replaced as needed due to wear or loss of ability to hold a tightness.
Regular inspections and preventive solutions to prolong the lifespan of your skates will save you a lot of money. If you have any questions / problems about the repair, you can always contact the hockey equipment service workshops.
One of the regular maintenance procedures for skates is to sharpen the blades. The sharpening service is presented in several formats: mainly, there is a workshop in chain (retail) stores, as well as the service is provided at hockey arenas and private workshops. In order to avoid premature blunting of the edges, the use of covers is recommended.
Terms of use
Taking into account the fact that skates have the ability to change / replace the holder and blades, skates acquire an almost unlimited period of use.Everything will depend not only on the external and internal state of the boot. With extended use or aggressive riding style, the core of the boot will soften resulting in less ankle support and loss of energy in the softened shell. Therefore, the question of changing skates is completely your prerogative.
Resume
The only thing that separates ice hockey from all other team sports is the ice itself, so it’s no surprise that buying the right pair of ice hockey skates – your connection to ice – can make a big difference in your results. The right pair of skates will not magically improve your skills, but it can help you make the most of your abilities and improve your on-ice skills. Taking the time to select the right ice hockey skates for your foot shape, skill level, play style and budget, you can go on the ice with confidence every time.

90,000 Women’s Fight Against Racism Begins with a Hair Salon | World Events – Estimates and Forecasts from Germany and Europe | DW
Carolina Contreras’ Miss Rizos hair salon is located in the heart of Santo Domingo on the second floor of an old building reminiscent of the colonial past of the Dominican Republic. The cabin is spacious and light. In the room with floor-length windows, there are swivel chairs in a row, opposite large mirrors for customers to see themselves well. On wooden shelves and racks are pots of houseplants, hair care products. Nearby is a cabinet containing Miss Rizos cosmetics and promotional items with the slogan “I love my African appearance.”
Natural curls are a subject of pride and attacks
In the Dominican Republic, these words sound like a challenge to many.Often, those with curly hair, characteristic of the African type of appearance, are faced with racist prejudices against them. Such hair is called here “pakhon” (which means “weeds” in Russian).
The employees of the Miss Rizos hairdressing salon
They are considered ugly. This stereotype is associated with the complex history of the population of the Dominican Republic, including African roots, as well as with the country’s colonial past, which played a role in the formation of the ideals of beauty and, in particular, how the Dominicans treat their natural curly hair. For many, pakhon evokes historical associations with black slaves who were brought to the island during the slave system. Often, their owners are faced with racist prejudices against them and even insults. “It’s a whole process to convince my clients that their natural curls are very beautiful,” says salon owner Carolina Contreras.
Contreras is an activist and entrepreneur with American-Dominican roots who founded Miss Rizos in 2014.Her hairdressing salon is the first of its kind for Afro-Latino and Latino people who want to keep their natural hair in its natural form, rather than straighten it with chemical treatments to please those who see straight hair as a symbol of success. Unfortunately, there are not so few people who think so in the Dominican Republic and beyond.
The expression “pelo malo” (bad hair) in the Dominicans means short, coarse curly hair typical of African appearance, while the expression “pelo bueno” (good hair) refers to straight long hair. For example, women who want to get a serious job: banker, lawyer, teacher, should not have curly hair. A 2016 study by the Perception Institute in the US confirms that black women with naturally curly hair face racist prejudice in the workplace.
Hair as an element of self-identification
Carolina Contreras opened not only a hairdressing salon for those whom nature has endowed with natural curls, but also organized a whole movement – in real life and on the Internet – in support of natural hair, which is an important element in the question self-identification and the standard of beauty that Dominicans do not need to give up.
Pride in curly hair
“I think for Dominicans it’s about much more than just wanting to get rid of their African appearance and look European. It’s about how they imagine successful people,” says Carolina Contreras. The success that many Dominicans associate with certain physical characteristics, such as straight hair, comes with a price. Hair straightening is expensive, painful and can take hours.Contreras recalls how her sister decided to straighten her hair. “I remember how she told me that her hair looked bad, persuaded me to straighten it. And now I only advocate for natural curly hair,” says Carolina Contreras.
At the Miss Rizzo salon, clients enjoy how the masters work with their hair. One of the clients Larisa Lembert says: “I feel at home here. They listen very attentively to all wishes. They work with enthusiasm and warmth.”Larisa Lembert was born in the Dominican Republic and is a physician in Seville, Spain. When she visits her homeland, she is always surprised by the changes that are taking place: “It’s fantastic to come and see how women, from customs at the airport to offices, show their beautiful curly hair. When I was a child, there were no hairdressing salons for natural hair, and there was nothing where we could learn how to be proud of what nature has endowed you with. ”
Curls against discrimination
Curly hair, characteristic of the African type of appearance, became a political statement in the United States in 1968, when a movement called Black is beautiful appeared. One of his icons was Angela Davis, who had luxurious curly hair.
A new movement in support of natural hair appeared in the United States in the early 2000s, after which it became widespread in Latin America and Africa. Over time, more and more women prefer to preserve their natural hair.
Carolina Contreras recalls how people felt about her desire for natural curly hair. She was asked about what products she uses and how she does it.After all, until a certain point, the topic of hair was a taboo. She eventually started a hair blog and then opened her own salon, which has become a place where the desire to preserve nature’s curly hair is appreciated. And the center of the movement against racial discrimination.
Contreras told the story of a 16-year-old girl who was kicked out of school. “She came for advice. The headmaster said that only prostitutes wear a hair like hers. I advised her how to behave, what to say.And the director conceded. Therefore, sometimes you just need to give a person the right tool. “
” We must love ourselves as we are – after all, this is a wonderful mixture. It reflects the history of our island, “says Larisa Lembert.

The trace of the Iroquois …
Few indigenous peoples of North America have managed to leave such an imprint in European culture as Iroquois.Their traces can be found all over the world, even if it is not immediately possible to establish direct belonging to this people. The Iroquois were “noted” in the first political movements, and in modern construction, and in pop culture.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
The Indian myth
The Federal Exhibition Hall in Bonn seeks to dispel the Indian myths. At the mention of the Iroquois, in the imagination of many, romantic images of noble savages with pipes of peace and headdresses made of feathers arise. What did the Indian tribes really look like? The exhibition “In the Footsteps of the Iroquois” recreates them – from their origins to the present day. 500 exhibits can be seen until August 4, 2013.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Brave warriors and wise diplomats
At first, the Iroquois settled in groups in separate regions. Later, a whole union was formed, which was called the “Confederation of the Iroquois” or “League”. In the 18th century, it already included six tribes: Mohoks, Onaida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, Tuscarora. The culture of the Iroquois is flourishing. Colonial empires feared their military power and deeply respected the art of diplomacy.

Wampum belt as a contract
Wampum – a belt made of white and purple cylindrical beads strung on cords – symbolizes important agreements reached by partners. With a belt in two rows, according to the interpretation of modern Iroquois, in the 17th century, contracts with white-skinned people were drawn up.Just as parallel as these two belt lines, each had to go its own way – the Iroquois and Neiroquois, respecting each other.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Where the Iroquois lived
The Iroquois, unlike other Indian people – the Lakota, lived not in tipi, portable dwellings, but in longitudinal naves, moreover, in several families. On the square of the Federal Exhibition Hall in Bonn, such a nave, 20 meters long and 6 meters high, has been recreated. The “skeleton” of this structure is made of poles and covered with spruce bark.
Following in the footsteps of the Iroquois
Maker of the Earth
The longitudinal nave in Bonn is surrounded by a herbal garden in the shape of a turtle. According to the Iroquois, the beginning of life on earth is associated with the fall from heaven of a pregnant woman, who was picked up by birds and lowered from their wings onto a turtle swimming in the sea. Later, the woman gives birth to twins.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Playing lacrosse as a military exercise
During games, the Iroquois were divided into two teams. This was a symbol of the creation of the world. The games were often religious and social. A striking example is lacrosse – a team game known today in many countries of the world. The Iroquois used this game as a teaching tool to train troops and peacefully resolve conflicts between tribes. Warriors often died during such games.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Iroquois and emancipation
This Indian people is considered the inspirer of many political and cultural movements of the 20th century, whether in Great Britain or the United States. So, the principles of women’s struggle for their rights were peeped from the Iroquois. The woman had a special position in the tribe. The eldest in rank – the matron – was the manager of the nave and took care of social welfare and political order.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Contemporaries of the Iroquois
Today, Iroquois can be found all over the world. The Indian hairstyle found its followers in the punk subculture, and in the ranks of the American special forces, and among pop stars. However, contemporaries went even further, repainting the Iroquois in flashy colors and experimenting with hair length.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Success with beads
After defeats in wars at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the Iroquois lost power and ended up on reservations. Later, they discovered a new occupation – in the tourist regions of the United States and Canada, former warriors began to commercialize traditions. Women began to sell baskets and beaded clothing.Sneakers embroidered with beaded patterns and decorated with leather laces have gained popularity.
In the footsteps of the Iroquois
Fearless builders
Men were increasingly invited to Western shows, where they displayed their clothes and martial arts. Thanks to their dexterity, the Iroquois soon discovered a new role for themselves. They were gladly invited as builders. Since the Iroquois were fearless and not afraid of heights, they were often attracted to the construction of skyscrapers in major US cities.
Following in the footsteps of the Iroquois
Contemporary art of the Iroquois
“Traces” of the Iroquois can also be traced in contemporary art. This is a painting by Carson Waterman, one of the most famous Indian tribe painters. It depicts an astronaut. He is fascinated by the game “Snow Snake”. “Reptile” made of wood covered with wax. The snake is chased along the snow gutter. The fastest wins.
