The story of Medicine Man began in August of 2011 when we came to understand the importance of spirituality+inner consciousness and its effect on outer body performance. We began to study spirituality from indigenous communities and came across the link of Lacrosse and it’s origin as the Medicine Game.
As long time players of Lacrosse, it became apparent of this profound importance. However we were surprised to notice, that there were no active companies promoting the importance of Lacrosse as the Medicine Game. Noting it’s qualities of healing, community participation, friendship & competition, we believed that we had an obligation to create a platform to motivate and inspire lacrosse players to learn more about Lacrosse and it’s origins as a Native American healing ceremony.
In 2011, we produced our first line of motivational lacrosse clothing & apparel with a mission to help the everyday laxers express their passion for the game, represent their identity to the world and connect to the lacrosse culture. Medicine Man Lacrosse clothing set out to design apparel that incorporated the passion and dedication players have for lacrosse as well as the heritage and early beginnings of the game. Our inspiration to begin with clothing came from our own love of the game. Our goal in designing Medicine Man Lacrosse clothing was to unify the lacrosse culture around 3 facets; Love the Game, Live your Passion and Share the Experience. It’s the idea that we can wear lacrosse clothing as a symbol of our passion, dedication and our unwavering love for this game. It’s the idea that we as lacrosse players are unique and by wearing our passion we help direct resources to communities that want to play the game but have little opportunity to do so. Medicine Man thus set out to embody a unique point of view that encompassed the subtle intricacies of the game, the spirit and magic from its early beginnings and the passion of those who dedicate themselves to nurturing participation in their communities.
Present day, Medicine Man is a purposeful approach to lacrosse culture, meticulously crafted to reflect an organization whose core values revolves around the player, the game, and the community. Each aspect of Medicine Man and the archetype it represents strives to promote the power of imagination, the culture of community, the lifestyle of talent and the self-expressive identity of play. Thus Medicine Man is a symbol of game, life and experience. Through the shared identity of play; players and community connect through the Medicine Game to express their spirit. The harmonious understanding of the healing game connects us to the past, present and future
Join us as we strive to connect the community through the shared identity of play and express the foundational values on which lacrosse was established: to connect man with his spirit..
Our story is just beginning..
Our mission is to help people learn, enjoy and appreciate the game of lacrosse while connecting the community through the shared identity of play.
The sacred nature of Lacrosse explains the paramount role of Medicine Man in nearly all its ritual aspects. Medicine Man was magic and defined the tradition of the game. By keeping the tradition, Medicine Man grew the game of lacrosse to become the popular sport we know today.
Our organization thus consists of a leadership mentality through the archetype of the traditional Medicine Man. Our focus is to express the foundational values on which lacrosse was established – to honor the spirit of the game, to connect the community and inspire the player.
Our objective is to create positive impact within the community. Our values of dedication, imagination, community and leadership are expressed with each initiative we take. We value respect, harmony and unity and will continue to represent the kindred spirit of lacrosse and its early traditions.
Medicine Man Lacrosse aims to provide a unique brand experience for the everyday laxers through the creation of lifestyle lacrosse clothing for players to express their passion for the game, represent their identity to the world and connect them to the culture wherever and whenever they go.

What is SPEED Lacrosse?
Speed Lacrosse is a fast fun version of 3v3 lacrosse played on a small field. Players do not wear any equipment, and do not have positions. The game is supposed to be fast and free flowing and emphasizes skill.
What are the rules of SPEED Lacrosse?
Teams can consist of up to 5 players, and can be guys, girls or co-ed. There are no faceoffs in SPEED Lacrosse and the ball changes possession after ever goal. Penalties are called similarly to regular lacrosse, but there is no body contact allowed, and stick checking is minimal. One pass must be made on offense before a team can score, and you can’t score from the defensive side of midfield. Players can jump in the goal on defense, and offensive players aren’t allowed to wind up and shoot the ball as hard as they can. The full rulebook is here SPEED Lacrosse Rules These rules are designed to get players lots of touches and keep the game moving fast.
How does the scoring work?
Games have 3 periods, and each period is scored individually. The first team to win 2 out of 3 periods wins the game. If any period ends in a tie, the winner is determined in a shootout.

90,000 Lacrosse is … What is Lacrosse?
Lacrosse (fr. la crosse – “stick”) – a team game in which two teams try to hit the opponent’s goal with a rubber ball, using their feet and a projectile, which is a cross between a stick and a racket.
History of appearance
Ball players. Lithograph of the first half of the 19th century.
Winnipeg Shamrocks Team, 1904 Olympic Champions
The game was invented by the American Indians, who used it to train warriors and peacefully resolve conflicts between tribes.According to archaeological research, the prototype of lacrosse was known in the territory of modern Canada as early as the beginning of the fifteenth century. Teams at that time often consisted of several hundred people, and the length of the field for the game ranged from several hundred meters to several kilometers.
European settlers first got acquainted with this game in the 17th century, and by the beginning of the 19th century it began to gain popularity among the French population of Canada. The first official lacrosse match took place in Canada in 1867.
Lacrosse was twice included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games – in 1904 and 1908.

Lacrosse in a box
Currently there are several varieties of lacrosse, differing in field size, number of players and rules. There are four main varieties: lacrosse in the field ( eng. ) ( on the grass or just lacrosse ), “lacrosse in a box” ( eng. ), intercross ( eng.), polocross ( eng.). Since 1967, the men’s world championships in lacrosse on the grass ( eng. ) have been held, in which teams from various countries, as well as the Iroquois Indian tribe (since 1990), take part.
There are more than three dozen national lacrosse associations in the world, most of them are located in Europe and were created in the last decade of the 20th century, but the leading countries are the USA and Canada, in the eastern regions of which lacrosse is very popular.
Lacrosse in Canada
In Canada, the game is the national summer sport. The Canadian Lacrosse Association was founded in 1867 and is the oldest in the world. Each year, there is an indoor lacrosse championship for adults and youth, in two divisions each, as well as a three-division outdoor lacrosse championship.

In the United States, along with the national lacrosse association, there is the Iroquois Nationals, which represent Indian tribes in international lacrosse competitions.
Lacrosse in other countries
Small communities of lacrosse have long existed in England and Australia. Starting in the 1990s, other national lacrosse associations began to appear, which now exist in two dozen European countries, in New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, etc. All of them are united in an international federation, with the exception of independent associations in India and China.
In Russia, this sport has barely begun to develop. There are two teams: “St.Petersburg Slayers “and” Moscow Rebels “, there is no national organization. The first official match in Russia took place on November 13, 2009 in St. Petersburg. Exactly one year later, another match took place in Moscow .
90,000 Lacrosse History – Wikipedia
Jim Tabby, Mississippi Choctaw preparing to play stickball in 1908.
Lacrosse originates in a tribal game played by Eastern Woodlands Native Americans and some of the Plains Indian tribes in what is now the United States of America and Canada. The European colonialists of North America changed the game significantly to create its current student and professional form. Hundreds of natives played ball with sticks. The game began with the ball being thrown into the air and both sides rushed to catch it. Due to the large number of players involved, these games tended to involve a huge crowd of players who hovered over the ball and moved slowly across the field. Passing the ball was considered a ruse, and dodging an opponent was considered cowardice. Over the years, lacrosse continues to be a popular sport throughout the world.
Native American Game
Modern lacrosse derives from games played by different Native American communities. These include games called Dehuntshigwa’es in Hey (“little war”), Tewaaraton in Mohawk (“war’s little brother”), Baaga`adowe in Ojibwe (“bump”) and Kabucha in Choctaw.
Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in North America. There is evidence that the variety of lacrosse originated in what is now Canada in the 17th century. Native American lacrosse was played throughout modern-day Canada, but was most popular in the Great Lakes, the Mid-Atlantic Coast, and the American South.
“Indian Ball Game” George Kathleen, circa 1846-1850, Choctaw Indians. Native American ball games often featured hundreds of players.
Traditional lacrosse games were sometimes large events that lasted several days.Participated from 100 to 1000 people from opposing villages or tribes. The games were played on open plains between two villages and targets could be located 500 yards (460 m) to 6 miles (9.7 km) apart.
The rules of these games were approved the day before. Basically there was no going out of bounds, and the ball could not be touched by hands. Large rocks or trees will be selected as targets; in later years, wooden posts were used.Game times often lasted from sunrise to sunset.
In the version with two sticks “Yugo-Vostok”, three areas were traditionally made on the pole for playing with a stick. There should be a mark on the chest high on the pole that, when the ball hits above that mark, gives one point. Contact below this point was not counted. The top half of the pole, well above the reach of the hands, usually scores two points on impact. The very top of the pole, usually decorated with a large figure of a fish or other sacred animal, was worth three points. In recreational games, scoring was weak, most often by spectators or multiple players. Usually, about twenty points are scored before the end of the game. The Iroquois and Great Lakes styles used poles or gate posts. [ citation needed ]

Due to the large number of players involved, these games tended to involve a huge crowd of players who hovered over the ball and moved slowly across the field.Passing the ball was considered a ruse, and dodging an opponent was considered cowardice.
The healers acted as coaches, and the women of the tribe usually looked after the players and cheered them on, and also sang while the men played. There was also a female version of lacrosse, called amtahcha, in some areas where much shorter sticks with larger heads were used. Another version, that instead the women played among the Iroquois and eastern forests, was a double game.
Lacrosse has traditionally pursued different goals. Some games were played to resolve tribal disputes. This feature was essential for keeping the Six Iroquois peoples together. Lacrosse was also played to temper young warriors for combat, recreation, festivals, and betting. Finally, lacrosse was played for religious reasons: “for the pleasure of the Creator,” and collectively to pray for something.
“Ballroom Dance” George Kathleen, 1834.Before the match, the players and their supporters spent the night singing, dancing and praying from God.
The pre-game rituals were very similar to those associated with the war. Players decorated their bodies with paint and charcoal. Players also decorated their hockey sticks or stick racks with items that represent the qualities they want in the game. There were strict taboos on the fact that players could eat before the game, and the doctor performed rituals to prepare the players and their clubs. On the night before the game, the players donned ceremonial regalia and performed a special dance.Sacrifices were made and sacred expressions were shouted to intimidate opponents.
On the day of the game, teams entered the field and were slowed down by constant rituals. One of the ceremonies is “going into the water,” where the players dip their sticks into the water and the shaman makes a spiritual and strategic uplifting speech. Sometimes players received ceremonial scratches on their arms or torso.
Before the game, each player had to place a bet. Items such as handkerchiefs, knives, trinkets, and horses were part of the bet.Bets will be displayed on a stand next to the audience and items will be awarded in proportion to the winner of each quarter.
At the end of the game, there was a ceremonial dance and a big feast for the hungry players. [ citation needed ]
Some early lacrosse balls were created from wood. Others were made from deer stuffed with hair. They were usually three inches in diameter.
The first lacrosse clubs were essentially giant wooden spoons without a net. Great Lakes style sticks had one end bent into a circle 4 to 5 inches (130 mm) in diameter, which was filled with mesh. This mesh was made from wattup or deer tendon. Iroquois and oriental forest style sticks use a U-shape instead of a circle.
These sticks were bent into shape after softening by steaming and were typically 2 to 5 feet (1.5 m) long. Lacrosse sticks often had intricate carvings designed to aid players in the game. Lacrosse sticks were so prized that many players asked to be buried next to them after death.
Some variants of lacrosse used unusual club designs. in Valley of St. Lawrence A version was played in which the head occupied two-thirds of the stick. in the Southwest United States, the two-stick version was played with sticks about two and a half feet long.
No protective gear was used in traditional lacrosse.
Men from the Mohawk tribe in Kahnawake (Konnawaga) who were the 1869 Canadian lacrosse champions.
The first Westerners to encounter lacrosse were the French. Jesuit missionaries in the Valley of St. Lawrence. During the 1630s, they witnessed and denounced the game. They were against lacrosse because it was violent, betting was involved and it was part of the religion they were trying to eradicate.
One missionary, Jean de Breeuf, was the first to write and name lacrosse. He described the Hurons in modern Ontario playing the “cross” in 1637. Some say the name comes from the French term for field hockey, Le Jeu De La Crossse .
Despite the resistance of the Jesuits, many other European colonists were intrigued by lacrosse. Game betting became common, and around 1740 many French colonists began playing the game. However, it is widely believed that they could not match the skills of the Native Americans.
James Smith described in detail a game played by his fellow tribesmen in 1757, “in which they used a wooden ball about three inches in diameter, and the tool they used to move it was a sturdy staff about five feet long. with a net for a hoop on a hook. end large enough to hold a ball. “
In 1763Ojibwas used a game of lacrosse to capture Fort Michilimatzkinats (now Mackinac). The natives invited the British troops of the fort to watch a game of lacrosse. Gradually, the players made their way to the gate, and then broke into the fort and staged a general massacre.
In 1805, during an expedition to the Mississippi River, US Army Officer Lieutenant Zebulon Pike observed a group of young Ho-Chunk (also known as Winnebago) and Sioux men playing this or a similar game nearby off the east bank of the river, in what is now west-central Wisconsin. He named the region Prairie de la Crosse, which in turn was the inspiration for the name of both the County of Wisconsin and its main city. Today, two statues in the city of La Crosse are dedicated to the game that Pike watched.
In 1834, the Connavaga Indians Brigade demonstrated lacrosse in Montreal. While the reaction to the demonstrations was not overwhelming, interest in lacrosse in Canada grew steadily.
In 1856, William George Bierce, a Canadian dentist, founded the Montreal Lacrosse Club.He codified the game in 1867 to shorten the length of each game, reduce the number of players, and use a new club and rubber ball. The first game played by Bierce’s rules took place at Upper Canada College in 1867. In the 1860s, lacrosse became Canada’s national game. The first foreign exhibition games were played in 1867. In 1876, Queen Victoria witnessed a demonstration game and was impressed, saying, “It’s a pleasure to watch the game.” Her endorsement was enough for many English girls’ schools to adopt the sport in the 1890s. The Mohawk for lacrosse in Troy, New York became the first organized club in the United States.
Pee-pee game in progress
As lacrosse grew, confronting its violent aspects was a major obstacle. The game was banned in some regions when, in 1900, the Choctaw Indians attached lead weights to sticks to use as split skulls.
By the 20th century, many high schools, colleges and universities had adopted lacrosse as a league sport.Lacrosse became an Olympic sport for the 1904 and 1908 Summer Olympics, but was later dropped from the official sport. After 1908, lacrosse became a sport in the World Games.
A closed version of the game was created in the 1930s. box of lacrosse, was introduced in Canada. It quickly became the dominant sport in Canada, in part due to the harsh winter weather that limited outdoor play opportunities. [ citation needed ]
Minor Leagues designed for box lacrosse and college lacrosse. Two professional leagues were also created: the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League was founded in 1987; it eventually became the Major League of Lacrosse Indoors, followed by the National Lacrosse League (BNL). In the summer of 2001, a professional field lacrosse league known as Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was opened. In 2019, the Lacrosse Premier League was created, which offered higher wages and better perks for players.
Today, lacrosse is most popular in Canada and the United States, but is also widely used in the United Kingdom and Australia.Although lacrosse is not as popular as many other sports, the number of participants and interest in it is growing. According to US Lacrosse, children in America prefer to play a different sport than they usually choose. A study of US lacrosse shows that boys ‘and girls’ lacrosse rose 47% and 43.1%. In addition, the NCAA reported a 24% increase in the number of new lacrosse programs for men created over the past two decades, and in the women’s sports department, the number of new programs created between 1998 and 2008., Increased by 65%. With the youth movement of participation in lacrosse, this will lead to more high school lacrosse players, then more college lacrosse players, then more professional players, and ultimately more interest in the sport. … Although participation in lacrosse has increased by 35% since 2012, attendance at MLL (Major League Lacrosse) games has declined and the sport is not covered on television like other sports in the United States. Paul Rabil, arguably the greatest and most influential lacrosse player of all time, tried to buy MLL several times after tired of low wages and low game attendance but was rejected by MLL. Paul Rabil and his brother Mike Rabil in 2018 were set to create their own lacrosse league known as the PLL (Premier Lacrosse League). They received financial backing from the Chernin Group, which owns Barstool Sports, and Alibaba co-founder Joseph Tsai…. The brothers also signed to NBC and NBC Sports to broadcast league games. PLL offers a minimum wage of $ 25,000, three times that of MLL players, plus medical benefits and league equity. PLL has enabled many professional lacrosse players to make lacrosse their full time jobs, which is why many MLL players are switching to PLL and why many college lacrosse players have chosen PLL over MLL and other professional leagues. With the creation of PLL, attendance has increased. In 2019, the first season of PLL, each weekend event was attended by over 10,000 people, with hundreds of thousands watching from home. With proper financial support, marketing, broadcasting and distribution, PLL successfully ran its first season, which attracted more viewership and interest than MLL. Stankari, Lu (23 November 2009) Bogage, Jacob. “Two leagues of lacrosse professionals are fighting for talent, attention, maybe survival.” Washington Post . Received on 2020-10-23.
