CASTLETON, Vt. – Josh Dionne has been named the next head women’s lacrosse coach at Castleton University Associate Dean for Athletics and Recreation Deanna Tyson announced Friday.

Dionne, a graduate of Duke University, comes to Castleton after one season at Proctor Academy where he coached boy’s lacrosse. He was tasked with overseeing practice and game preparation, travel, budgets and scheduling.

“We are thrilled to welcome Josh to our staff,” said Tyson. “The wealth of knowledge that he brings from both playing and coaching experience will be a great asset to Castleton. We are confident that he will help upkeep the tremendous track record of the program.”

“I am honored and excited to join Castleton as the women’s lacrosse head coach,” said Dionne. “I want to thank Deanna Tyson for this incredible opportunity and for believing in my leadership abilities. The sport of lacrosse has given me everything and I am eager to share my passion with the amazing student-athletes here at Castleton.”

Prior to Proctor Academy, Dionne spent two seasons as an assistant for the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team where he was in charge of offensive game-planning, recruiting and scouting reports. While at UNC, Dionne helped guide the Tarheels to a national semi-final appearance as well as a pair of ACC Regular Season and Tournament Championships.

Dionne also spent two years assisting the United States Naval Academy women’s lacrosse program, where he developed and executed successful team culture on and off the field, ran summer camps, assisted in recruiting and organized film breakdown.

A standout lacrosse player for the Blue Devils, Dionne was drafted following his senior year with the 18th overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse draft. He graduated as Duke’s eighth all-time leading goal scorer while ranking 20th in total points. He was a two-time USILA All-America Honorable Mention, and helped guide Duke to a pair of National Titles. His team reached the national semifinals in all four seasons in his time as a player.

Castleton University’s new women’s lacrosse coach Josh Dionne was just a small town kid from Merrimack, New Hampshire, a place not known for lacrosse.

Dionne had to find a way to teach and develop himself on the lacrosse field without camps and clinics and being self-taught where he claims his love for coaching originated.

After a successful high school career at Avon a private institution in Connecticut doors were opened for through a scholarship to Duke University, a Division-1 nationally ranked program for lacrosse.

“Once I get there, it was an eye-opener. I didn’t know conditioning or weight lifting. I showed up as this ignorant kid to a D1 school and it was a kick in the butt the first fall I arrived. I was never pushed in Merrimack,” Dionne said.

Dionne would go on to win back-to-back national championships at Duke in 2013-2014 and he says those title moments stand out the most.

“In 2010, our whole platform for getting recruited was to win a national championship. The first title we started 1-4 and the fact that we came back and won it was pure joy, everything came to fruition. I remember just flashing back to sixth grade in the woods in New Hampshire just trying to get better,” said Dionne with a smile.

Dionne finished his career a three year starter at Duke with 140 goals and 22 assists totaling 162 points. Dionne was named a two-time USILA All-American honorable mention.

It proved, he said, that if you want something you have to work for it.

After Duke, Dionne had two short assistant coaching stints at the Naval Academy and University of North Carolina but he said it felt like something was missing.

“I thought coaching at the highest level at the age of 26 was going to be a storybook ending, but I quickly realized that I wasn’t coaching, it was more guiding. I realized that Castleton had this spot and they’ve been good but they haven’t had top-end coaching. I felt I could make waves,” he said.

Dionne hopes to bring positive reinforcement to the CU women’s lacrosse program and constantly remind them that they’re working toward a goal. He said he hopes to change their lives.

The impact is already starting to settle in just three short months, said senior captain Erin Shuttle.

“He’s an amazing coach who obviously wants to pass down his knowledge and is great at breaking down the basics and teaching. He just brings a different energy and enthusiasm to everything we do,” Shuttle said.

Since arriving at Castleton, Dionne said he has made it a point to not overcoach and said he really believes he has an opportunity that goes way past the game of lacrosse.

“I like to use the game and relate it to life. The reality is sports end for these girls so if I can make them realize what hard work can be capable of, hopefully they will take that far in life and someday get a great job and become great mothers, etcetera,” Dionne said.

Shuttle seems to be recognizing exactly what Dionne is hoping to build.

“It’s easy to tell that he truly cares about us and he want us to have fun and love what we’re doing every day. He wants to lead us to success and he knows how to do that,” she said.

The women’s lacrosse team has been dealing with constant change with three different coaches in just four seasons, which doesn’t generally translate to success.

Dionne wants to simply give these players a familiar face and something consistent.

“They haven’t fully been able to buy in and say ‘this is how you win a championship’ and now I can come and change the culture. They’re realizing that I am not here to police them, they understand that hard work on and off the field is going to lead to good things,” he said.

Senior captain Morgan Derosia has high hopes for her team in her final season as a Spartan.

“Win or lose, I know we are going to put in the work day in and day out. I think we are capable of some great things with this team and this coaching staff,” Derosia said.

Dionne is no stranger to big games and goals and he is motivated to put Castleton women’s lacrosse on the map in a short period of time.

“From my experience, you can’t make it about wins and losses. That creates people feeling like a failure when they don’t win. I want them to enjoy the process. I don’t think these girls smiled a day in the last few years on that field. My biggest goal is for them to smile every day and those will translate into wins. By year three I want to be in the second round of the NCAA tournament. I think once we reach that the sky is the limit with this program,” he said

Proctor Athletics Team Spotlight: Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse

Proctor Boys Lacrosse has multiple athletes who will soon be off to play at a collegiate level, but for now, their focus is to come together as a team and leave their mark on the competitive Lakes Region League. Last year, Proctor Boys Lacrosse said goodbye to not only eleven seniors, but their head coach as well. This year, with a brand new coach and some new additions to the team, they are committed to working tirelessly to pursue their full potential as a team.

Following the late-summer departure of former head lacrosse coach Travis Glennon, Proctor was very fortunate to land a coach with the experience and credibility of Josh Dionne. Most recently an assistant varsity women’s lacrosse coach at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Dionne is a former standout attack for Duke University’s National Champion lacrosse team. Dionne spent two years of high school at Brooks School where he became familiar with New England Prep School Lacrosse. A New Hampshire native, Dionne’s energy, enthusiasm, experience, and credibility with the players help Proctor be poised to further grow the school’s strong lacrosse tradition dating back to the 1960s.

Players on the lacrosse team expressed that it has been hard to have three different coaches in the last three years, as each coach has brought his own style of play and expectations to the program. Despite the uncertainty that accompanies a leadership change at the varsity level, this year’s lacrosse team is very much looking forward to working with their new coach who has endless knowledge to offer and will be working hard to help these boys elevate their level of play in order to be successful as a team. The team believes they are quickly forming a bond, not only with one another as teammates but with their new head coach as well, due in large part to the group’s spring training trip to San Diego over March break. We caught up with a few members of the team to ask about their very young season and their goals for the weeks ahead.

What will be your biggest challenge this season?

Scott Witkos ‘21 (FOGO/Midfield): Our biggest challenge this season is going to be making sure that our guys stay healthy. Lacrosse is a very physical sport, and we are constantly putting in hard work day in and day out. That being said there is not much room for injury. We are not too deep in all of our positions so keeping all of our players healthy will be essential as we face a challenging schedule, especially during the final few weeks of the season. It is our responsibility to stay fit, to encourage each other, and to look out for each other on the field if we are going to keep our players in top playing condition all the way throughout the end of our season.”

What do is necessary for you guys to have a successful season?

Patrick Murphy ‘20 (Attack): “Quite simply, we are going to have to believe in one another as a group. If each and every individual puts in their best hard work and listens to the other voices that are around, then we will do well together as a team. I can’t preach enough how important it is for us to work as a team and play as a team rather than playing for ourselves. This is easier said than done on a high school team. We need to put all social problems or status’s aside when it comes to listening to each other and respecting each other when we are together on the field. If we can do that, I think we are going to have a successful season.”

Now that you are a few games in, how are you feeling about the season? What adjustments are necessary?

Murphy: “So far we are off to a good start to the season, we had one rough game (loss to Tabor Academy), but we have played well in the other two. We are learning from the mistakes that we have already made, improving on them, and moving forward. We are still new together as a team and we are learning to play well with each other and work off each other’s strengths so that we can continue to compete against the high competition.”

We also caught up with new head coach Josh Dionne about his transition to this team and his coaching philosophy.

How do you feel the spring break trip to San Diego helped the team bond and helped you jump into this role?

The spring break trip to San Diego was my first chance seeing these guys play. I wanted to show them how much fun they can have while still becoming better lacrosse players. When we first arrived we went to a gorgeous beach and played some lacrosse. Some of the kids hadn’t traveled much so it was cool to show them that they are able to both have fun while still working hard and improving as players and as a team. We hope to see more faces on our spring break trip next year, it is a great opportunity to get the rust off at the start of the season while having a great time as well.

What is your approach to jumping into coaching a new lacrosse team?

I want our team to play fast and to highlight their athleticism. I played lacrosse for Duke in college and I feel like I did not learn the right skills until I got there, I want to teach these guys early. What’s cool for me is that my coaching style puts a lot of responsibility in the players themselves. I give them a lot of freedom to learn on their own because, in the end, it’s not about the coach it’s about the players making decisions in the heat of the moment during the game. The more independence we can instill in them as coaches, the better able they will be to execute come game time.

Notebook: Duke’s Pagliuca makes NABC’s Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Four college basketball players from the Triangle area were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, the organization announced.

Three members of the Wake Forest men’s basketball team and one member of the Duke men’s basketball were honored Tuesday, as the organization announced the 2015-16 Honors Court. The Deacs’ Grant O’Brien, Stephen Prendergast and Trent Vanhorn along with Blue Devils’ rising senior Nick Pagliuca were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom.

To be named to the NABC Honors Court, a player must be a junior or senior academically, have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, have been enrolled at their current school for at least one year and have a coach who is a member of the NABC.

Wake Forest: Coach Bobby Muuss announced the addition of Andreu Cases Mundet, a goalkeeper from Barcelona, to the 2016 recruiting class. Cases Mundet joins an already-deep class of nine incoming freshmen and one transfer.

UNC: The Tar Heels hired Josh Dionne as an assistant coach, head coach Jenny Levy announced. Dionne, a two-time All-America attacker and NCAA champion as a player at Duke, served as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Navy for the past two seasons.

N.C. State: Kirin Kumar, a former ACC standout, joined the Wolfpack as an assistant coach, head coach Shawn Rychcik said. Kumar comes to Raleigh after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Tulsa.

N.C. State: The Wolfpack earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The award, which began during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.

Mount Olive: The men’s and women’s teams earned academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Both teams were honored as All-Academic teams for 2016 after each squad finished with combined GPAs of 3.2 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

Duke eases past Stony Brook; Dionne scores 100th goal

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke’s defense held visiting Stony Brook scoreless in the first half while senior Josh Dionne joined the 100-goal club as the No. 1 Blue Devils posted a 14-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.

The Blue Devils improve to 4-0 while the Seawolves fall to 1-2. The win pushes Duke’s win streak to nine dating back to May 5, 2013.

“Offensively, I thought we moved the ball and were unselfish,” head coach John Danowski said. “I think we would have liked to have gotten one or two more, but certainly going into the locker room with a seven goal lead we were happy.”

Duke’s Jordan Wolf, who matched his career high with seven total points on the day, scored two goals in the opening half as the Blue Devils raced to a 7-0 lead. Goalkeeper Luke Aaron, who surrendered just two goals before giving way to Justin Turri after three periods, carded eight of his career-high 11 saves in the opening 30 minutes.

Stony Brook got on the board after 31:03 and added five more as the Blue Devils only outscored the Seawolves 7-6 in the final 30 minutes.

With a pair of tallies, Dionne became the 16th player in Duke history to reach the 100-goal plateau. The group includes Wolf (130) and current Duke assistant coach Matt Danowski (170). Deemer Class, Kyle Keenan and Case Matheis added two goals each as Duke won its third game in three tries against Stony Brook.

The two goals for Keenan give him six for the year, which is just two shy of matching his combined total form his first two seasons. Keenan owns two goals in three of Duke’s four games this season and has at least one point in all four.

The Blue Devil defensive unit was spearheaded by Casey Carroll, who logged five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Brendan Fowler (9 of 15) and Jack Rowe (6 of 8) combined for a 15 of 23 effort at the faceoff X.

“It’s been really easy [settling in],” Aaron said. “It’s been seamless. The guys in front of me make it easy. The defense is playing really stout and has made my job really easy.”

For Stony Brook, Brody Eastwood logged three goals while Matt Schultz had one goal and two assists. In the net, Dan Shaughnessy was credited for 11 saves.

I would like to express my deep gratitude and admiration to the director, who has been hatching this idea for so many years. And it is realized in a cavity, its scale is amazing. This film is completely made, soul and emotions are put into it. The amazing Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and most certainly the rest are worthy of respect, yes, they are brilliant actors.

Throughout the film, the viewer does not leave the feeling of longing, all-consuming grief hanging over Angel Crest with an invisible veil.This picture is about how people are able to cope with the worst moments of their lives. Will they forgive themselves, everyone around, or will they continue to live with an unbearable burden in their souls.

However, what is absolutely certain is that you cannot advance far along your life path, hiding the pain of loss in yourself. One way or another, but each person needs to forgive.

“The Heart of a Warrior” is a story about a man who is able to change his inner world in order to find again what was lost.

Life is never easy. So Connor ( Kellan Lutz ) has to face his own hatred of everything around him after the sudden death of his father in the war. The guy can no longer play lacrosse as masterly as he did before, he is not able to be himself even with people close to him: his mother, younger brother and Brooklyn girlfriend ( Ashley Greene ).The feeling of emptiness and anger covers him completely. And it is not known where this would have led him if it had not been for his father’s old friend …

This picture is not just one of thousands of other stories about sports and the will to win. This is a film about how to overcome yourself, this overwhelming feeling of injustice after the loss of your dearest person.

The actors completely coped with the most important task, “to be believed”. I especially recommend watching this film in the original, i.e.in English, because sometimes the dialogues of the characters and, of course, Brooklyn’s offscreen reflections make you think about a lot. After all, all this surrounds any of us. And the sooner we are able to understand this and accept, and maybe cope with something, the faster we can become ourselves. After all, close people expect this from us.

It is impossible to truly love a person for pretending to be someone. They love only “real people”!

More than a decent soundtrack accompanies the viewer from the very first frames to the very credits.As they say, what you need.

The film is also highly recommended to all fans of the Twilight Saga. An excellent opportunity to see representatives of the famous Cullen family in a different role, so to speak, without superpowers and fear of being seen in the open sun.

This film shook me, shook me inside and out. I went to the film in order to make sure that Pattison was mediocre, that there was nothing behind it except appearance. And he was not at all surprised by the presence of a dozen female fans from 11 to 15. But he grew up, he grew creatively back in the film Little Ashes, but then he raised the bar even higher, but more on that later.

Believe it or not, the girls to our right, after the very turning point in the film, sat in a complete stupor: “What is it, he threw himself from a skyscraper?” – “Don’t be stupid, this is a bomb …”
There are no words …

First about the plot, you look and it seems that it was all that now will be like in other films, love, a pinch of sadness and a happy ending, BUT NO! In the last 15 minutes, the plot is twisted so much that you can see an open mouth behind you.
It’s the finale that decides everything. This tragedy, this shock and the question I have: “What next?”

How will this little girl, who lost her older brother, and then another one, not just a brother, but a heartfelt friend, who understood her, supported and gave what her father deprived her, will live. Will not the fate of her brothers befall her ?! How can you possibly survive this? Stay strong after that and not break. It deserves respect.

What about poor parents who suffer loss after loss.A beloved girl who will look for HIM in other people.

What can I say? I liked this series! Since childhood, I wanted to see the full story of the sailor Sinbad, so to speak, to see with my own eyes how it all began.And the genre itself has always been a priority for me when choosing the next film to watch.

Well, now closer to the series itself .. What immediately caught my eye is that the creators are not going to accelerate even one iota in revealing all the storylines. This is a plus, I will hope that the series will be extended for subsequent seasons and we will have a chance to find out how it all ends. And if I were you, I would not tune in to a happy ending in advance. After all, this is still not a prequel to Disney’s masterpiece!

The cast is trying on a level – all newcomers without star roles in the past.The only exception can be considered only the performer of the role of Lord Akbari ( Naveen Andrews ), who played one of the main roles in the TV series “Lost”.

Of course, some roughness is visible when drawing the mythical monsters of the Persian Gulf. But I will take it calmly – after all, the budget is not Avatar’s, and it is not for the sake of this that such series are being filmed. But what I really like in each episode is the bird’s-eye views of Basra and the islands visited by Sinbad ( Elliot Knight ) and his team.

Summing up, I will add that I will look forward to the continuation of the epic. I can recommend to everyone who loved oriental fairy tales in childhood and, having become an adult, sometimes continues to believe in miracles!

Recently I managed to watch several serials in a similar genre.A genre that involves solving high-profile crimes by understanding the ulterior motives of the criminal, and not only with the help of skillfully collected evidence and carefully studied testimony of witnesses.

Among the latest similar series, I can single out “True detective” (2014- …), “Murder” (The Killing, 2011-2014), “How to get away wiith murder” (2014- …) …

Recently I came across another similar one – “Secrets and Lies” (Secrets and Lies, 2015- …) produced by the ABC channel.And here’s my own opinion on the first season I watched.

The story begins according to the classic scheme – the main character, the head of the family and the father of two daughters Ben Crawford ( Ryan Philip ), during his morning jog, discovers the corpse of a neighbor’s five-year-old boy, Tom Murphy, in the forest. However, when he immediately reports the incident to the police, he becomes the prime suspect in the investigation. In addition, none of his neighbors and close associates, with the exception of relatives and best friend of Dave Lindsay ( Dan Fogler ), believe in his innocence.

In each new episode, not only the main storyline with Ben will unfold before the viewer, but also individual secrets of people hidden for one reason or another. In the last episode, as can be traced from the title of the series, Lie awaits us.

Separately, I would like to highlight the character, acting at first, as each of us will probably assume, as an antagonist to the main character. This is Detective Andrea Cornell ( Juliet Lewis ), leading the investigation into the murder of Tom Murphy.Only at the very end, this character will begin to reveal itself to the viewer. The actress perfectly complemented the versatile and, I would say, impulsive in the good sense of the word, Ryan Philip’s play on the screen.

The plot may seem to some not as dynamic as we are accustomed to seeing on the screen lately. However, this has its own plus. Indeed, in real life, rarely everything happens at a kaleidoscopic speed. Such an action should unfold gradually, and then none of the viewers will remain indifferent when watching.

The film is definitely recommended for fans of the detective genre with elements of thriller and psychological drama.

For those who do not consider themselves to be mentioned above, I can say the following. Take your time for 10 episodes of the first season. See to the very end! I guarantee that the story of Ben Crawford will not leave any of you indifferent …

What Can’t Happen in the Life of American Students!

Another shocking episode called “Kill for Me” I happened to see the other day.At first glance, it may seem so stamped that it can discourage any desire to even double-click on the file. However, in my opinion, the film deserves to be watched by all fans of this genre of “university thriller”.

I see no reason to retell the plot, even briefly. The synopsis is extremely eloquent. I will single out a non-stereotyped denouement, which made me happy. In addition, the attempt to expose the heroines’ friendship from different angles is commendable.

Actors are generally unknown to the general public.Except for Katie Cassidy, of course. She conveyed the feelings of the main character well. Plausibly depressed, well scared. The rest of the characters do not stand out in anything special.

As a result, I rate the film with an average mark. Forgive me, it does not reach the best representatives of the genus “thriller”.

This makes Richie look differently at his best friend’s younger sister, and something more than just sympathy arises between him and Michelle.

Mutual relationships always change people.This also happens with the main characters. Michelle becomes more thoughtful, she begins to understand that she needs to change something in her life now, if she wants to achieve anything at all. Richie is not yet able to bring himself to make important decisions. But Brent, who has more experience, albeit unsuccessful, shares with him his thoughts on this matter. It is he who awakens the seriousness of life in Richie, makes him want something more, which is a provincial guy who earns money by giving out roller skates to all visitors to Skateland.

This film, I’m not afraid of loud words, about the meaning of life, that every person needs a goal to develop and move forward. Staying at home and constantly being one and the same, namely, a teenager doubting everything – isn’t this the most unnatural thing that can happen to a person?

This film is about real friends who will always come to each other’s rescue.The eternal problem of “fathers and children”, which is so urgent for each of us from the period of adolescence, has not been forgotten either.

I would like to highlight the musical accompaniment separately. I really liked it! Each song that sounds off-screen, as it were, takes the viewer back to the 80s, forcing them to empathize with the main characters even more.

A wonderful continuation of the story! “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” not only reached the conquered heights indicated by the first film, but also took into account all the roughness and mistakes of the starting part.

What I feared most was a repetition of the dubiously progressive cinematography that managed to maintain a soft rating for the first film, veiling scenes of teenage violence in the Arena itself. In this film, thank the director, this very moment was worked out especially carefully, all the necessary work was done on the mistakes. There may have been too many close-ups during the 75th Games itself, but I guess I’m just picking on. In the end, the experiences of the heroes in the book are also highlighted during the battle, and the scenery and traps are given a secondary role.

Recreating the literary believability of a favorite book and following it all the time is a huge advantage and plus for me. But creating some additional moments and lines that are missing in the book is a coup, and for this many thanks to Francis Lawrence. He is also calm about the remaining two parts of the franchise, because he will shoot them.

The actors have confirmed their skills this time too. Katniss Everdeen performed by Jennifer Lawrence is versatile and unique.The game you believe. You believe her worries for her family, for her friends, for her native district. The desire of the protagonist to sacrifice herself is also worthy of special mention so that a loved one can get out alive from the cunningly rigged trap of the Capitol, which is personified by President Snow ( Donald Sutherland ).

The only one who can realize the full weight of her burden, understand how she really feels, is the humble son of the baker Pete Mellark ( Josh Hutcherson ).It was he who went with her all the way from the draw for their first Games to the present day. I am more than sure that the story of the struggle for freedom and the right to a better future in a world where everything is subordinated to the will of a handful of rulers will not leave anyone indifferent.

For hockey, the sport of his entire life, Sutherland did as much as, it seems, even Einstein did not do for the theory of relativity.Here and the introduction to the rules of the positions of left and right defenders (imagine, until the 1910s, the position of players in hockey was completely different), and the creation of the Memorial Cup, and, as you already understood, the opening of the first hockey Hall of Fame.

NHL Hall of Fame “Iconostasis”

Loyal to his hometown Kingston, where he was called “the father of hockey,” James Thomas dreamed that this particular city would become a haven for hockey memorabilia and ice sports greats. He believed that it was Kingston, where the game between the teams of Queen’s University and the Royal War College took place in 1886, that belongs to the right to be considered the small homeland of hockey.And his opinion turned out to be authoritative enough for the NHL and KALH (Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, CAHA) to jointly decide to establish the first Hall there.

True, the Hall of Fame appeared only on paper, in the form of a non-profit charitable organization. It did not have its own separate premises, and the first honorary members appeared in it only two years later. The next additions to this virtual but prestigious club took place in 1947, 1950 and 1952.

STOLEN HALL

Throughout the 40s and 50s, the NHL and KALH raised funds for the building for the Hall of Fame. The fact is that construction at that time was very expensive, and they were not used to squandering budget funds in billions, as is customary in Russia, abroad.We had to earn money ourselves.

Back in 1945, the NHL and KALH allocated 17.5 thousand dollars for the museum (a decent amount at that time), and two years later the teams of Boston, Chicago, New York and Toronto held a number of exhibition meetings, the collection from which went to the same goals. Moreover, in 1952 Kingston hosted a match between the local team and the Montreal Canadiens, also organized for the needs of the Hall of Fame.

Slowly but surely, everything went to the fact that soon a large construction project would begin in Kingston.James Sutherland, who dreamed of seeing the Hall in his small homeland, of course, no one dared to contradict because of his colossal authority. But the unexpected happened – on September 30, 1955, Sutherland died at the age of 84. And then the NHL leadership, who did not want to give such a significant museum to the city, where there is not even an NHL team, made a knight’s move.

Three years after Sutherland’s death, when the museum had not yet managed to raise enough funds to build a building in Kingston, NHL President Clarence Campbell not fit for his league.The NHL has already agreed with the National Exhibition of Canada to build a new Hall of Fame building in Toronto, the president said.

These words sounded like a bolt from the blue. The Kingstonians, from ordinary citizens to the mayor, were angry and resentful at the National League, but no one asked their opinion. In August 1958, just a couple of months after Campbell’s announcement, a temporary Hockey Hall of Fame opened in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.In just six months, its exposition was visited by more than 350 thousand people, and the NHL was finally convinced that the Hall there should become permanent.

The exhibition grounds were built with NHL money in record time – less than a year. And all would be nothing, but only the dream of James Sutherland, the father of this project, remained unfulfilled.

This proved pointless after the Toronto Hall of Fame included all members of the Kingston era.

By the way, appreciate the irony of fate. In the late 70s, after a major renovation, the renovated International Hockey Hall of Fame in Kingston was opened by none other than Clarence Campbell, who left the post of NHL President.The same person who refused to support the Kingston Museum 20 years ago.

Minor League baseball team

At Grand Junction Rockies independent baseball team Pioneer League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB ), but is a league of MLB partners.They are located in Grand Junction, Colorado, and play their home games at the Suplicio Field. They are named after the Colorado Rockies, which were their major league affiliates from 2001 to 2020 before the league became independent. Their mascot is Corky Coyote.

Franchise history

Butte Copper Kings, named after the once powerful owners of the copper mines in Butte, Montana, began playing in the Pioneer League in 1978 as a co-op team with players from the Philadelphia Phillies, Oakland Athletic, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers organizations, as well as several free agents …^[1]

Since 1987, Silverbow Baseball has operated the franchise. It was sold in 1996 to the Goldklang Group in a step necessary to resolve conflicts of interest when Silverbow head Jim McCurdy took over as president of the Pioneer League in 1994. ^[2] Silverbow tried to sell the franchise in 1994 to investors in California, but the deal fell through when Silverbow was found to own a smaller stake in the franchise than it had anticipated. ^[3]

After the 2000 season, the team moved to Casper, Wyoming as the Casper Rockies (and was renamed Ghosts until 2008 time of year ^[4]) and are affiliated with Colorado.^[5]

On January 13, 2011, Casper Professional Baseball Club, LLC announced the sale of the team to Monfort Investment Group, a group led by Colorado Rockies General Partners. ^[6]

On October 17, 2011, Grand Junction officials unanimously approved a lease with the team, making Suplicio Field home to the newly renamed Grand Junction of the Rocky Mountains. ^[7]

In conjunction with the reduction of Minor League Baseball in 2021, the Pioneer League was reorganized from a subsidiary of MLB.The rookie advanced league to the Independent League Baseball and earned MLB affiliate league status with continued membership to Grand Junction. ^[8]
