Who is Jarrett Davis in the world of lacrosse. What teams has he played for. How has he contributed to the sport. What are his notable achievements and statistics.
Jarrett Davis: Rising Star in Professional Lacrosse
Jarrett Davis has emerged as a notable figure in the professional lacrosse scene, making significant contributions to the teams he’s played for. His journey in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) has been marked by consistent performance and strategic moves that have shaped his career trajectory.
Early Career and NLL Debut
Davis began his NLL career with the Rochester Knighthawks, where he spent his first three seasons. During this time, he demonstrated steady improvement and a knack for playmaking. In his third year with the Knighthawks, Davis showcased his potential by scoring 28 points in the regular season, a solid performance that hinted at his growing capabilities.
Playoff Performance with Rochester
It was in the playoffs that Davis truly shone for Rochester. He led the team in playoff assists with nine, demonstrating his ability to rise to the occasion in high-pressure situations. This performance not only highlighted his individual skills but also his value as a team player, capable of creating scoring opportunities for his teammates when it mattered most.
The Trade to Edmonton Rush: A New Chapter
In a significant move that reshaped the landscape of the NLL, Jarrett Davis was traded from the Rochester Knighthawks to the Edmonton Rush. This trade was part of a larger deal involving Paul Rabil, one of the most renowned players in lacrosse.
Details of the Trade
The Edmonton Rush acquired Davis in exchange for the rights to Paul Rabil. This trade was notable for several reasons:
- It involved two teams from different conferences – the East and West finalists of that year’s Champion’s Cup.
- The Rush had previously acquired Rabil in a midseason trade but he had not reported to the team.
- Davis was seen as a valuable asset to boost Edmonton’s offense, which had been the lowest-scoring in the NLL the previous year.
Edmonton’s Perspective on the Trade
Edmonton’s Head Coach and General Manager, Derek Keenan, expressed enthusiasm about acquiring Davis, describing him as “a talented, skilled, and athletic young right-handed offensive player.” The Rush saw Davis as a solution to their need for help on the right side of their offense, especially following the departure of veteran player Shawn Williams.
Impact on Edmonton Rush
The acquisition of Jarrett Davis was expected to have a significant impact on the Edmonton Rush, particularly in terms of offensive production. How did Davis fit into Edmonton’s strategy, and what were the expectations for his role?
Offensive Boost
Edmonton’s primary goal in acquiring Davis was to improve their offensive output. As the lowest-scoring team in the NLL in the previous season, the Rush needed a player who could contribute immediately to their scoring efforts. Davis, with his proven ability to create scoring opportunities and his own scoring touch, was seen as an ideal candidate to fill this role.
Right-Side Offensive Threat
Coach Keenan specifically mentioned the need for help on the right side of the offense. Davis, being a right-handed offensive player, was expected to provide balance and versatility to the Rush’s attack. This strategic fit was a key factor in Edmonton’s decision to acquire him.
Young Talent Development
At the time of the trade, Davis was still considered a young player with significant potential for growth. The Rush likely saw this as an opportunity to develop a talented player who could become a cornerstone of their offense for years to come. The departure of veteran Shawn Williams opened up playing time and opportunities for Davis to step into a larger role.
Jarrett Davis’s Playing Style and Skills
What makes Jarrett Davis a valuable asset in professional lacrosse? His playing style and skill set have been crucial to his success and attractiveness to teams like the Edmonton Rush.
Offensive Prowess
Davis has demonstrated a strong offensive game, both as a scorer and a facilitator. His ability to put points on the board consistently, as evidenced by his 28-point season with Rochester, makes him a threat that opposing defenses must account for.
Playmaking Ability
Perhaps Davis’s most notable skill is his playmaking ability. Leading his team in playoff assists showcases his vision on the field and his ability to create scoring opportunities for teammates. This skill is particularly valuable in the fast-paced, high-scoring environment of professional lacrosse.
Clutch Performance
Davis has shown the ability to elevate his game in high-pressure situations. His standout performance in the playoffs for Rochester indicates that he has the mental toughness and skill to contribute significantly when the stakes are highest.
Comparing Davis to Other NLL Players
To fully appreciate Jarrett Davis’s impact and potential, it’s helpful to compare him to other players in the National Lacrosse League. How does Davis stack up against his peers?
Statistical Comparison
While specific statistics for all NLL players are not provided in the original text, we can infer that Davis’s 28-point regular season and team-leading 9 playoff assists put him in good company among productive offensive players in the league. However, to get a complete picture, it would be necessary to compare these numbers to league averages and top performers in similar roles.
Value in Trade
The fact that Davis was traded for the rights to Paul Rabil, widely considered one of the top lacrosse players globally, speaks volumes about his perceived value in the league. While Rabil’s situation (not reporting to Edmonton) complicates this comparison, it still indicates that teams view Davis as a highly valuable asset.
Potential for Growth
As a young player at the time of the trade, Davis’s potential for further development set him apart from more established veterans. Teams often place a premium on players who have shown solid performance and have room to improve further.
The Future of Jarrett Davis in the NLL
What does the future hold for Jarrett Davis in the National Lacrosse League? While predicting the future in professional sports is always challenging, several factors suggest a promising trajectory for Davis.
Role with Edmonton Rush
With the Edmonton Rush, Davis was expected to step into a significant role immediately. The team’s need for offensive production, particularly from the right side, positioned Davis to potentially become a key player in their system. His success in this role could solidify his position as a core member of the team for years to come.
Continued Skill Development
Given his young age at the time of the trade, Davis had ample opportunity to continue refining his skills and expanding his game. The experience of playing in a new system with the Rush could contribute to his growth as a player, potentially unlocking new aspects of his offensive game.
Potential for Leadership
As Davis gains experience in the league, there’s potential for him to take on more of a leadership role. His playoff performance with Rochester demonstrated his ability to step up in important situations, a quality that often translates to leadership on and off the field.
Jarrett Davis’s Impact on the Sport of Lacrosse
Beyond his individual statistics and team contributions, how has Jarrett Davis impacted the sport of lacrosse as a whole? While it’s challenging to quantify the influence of a single player, several aspects of Davis’s career suggest a positive impact on the game.
Raising the Profile of Offensive Midfielders
Davis’s success as an offensive player, particularly his playmaking abilities, helps highlight the importance of versatile offensive midfielders in the modern game of lacrosse. His style of play demonstrates the value of players who can both score and create opportunities for teammates.
Inspiring Young Players
As a young player who quickly made an impact in the professional ranks, Davis serves as an inspiration to aspiring lacrosse players. His journey from a solid regular-season performer to a playoff standout shows the importance of seizing opportunities and performing under pressure.
Contributing to League Parity
The trade that sent Davis to Edmonton had the potential to improve the competitive balance of the NLL. By moving from an established playoff team (Rochester) to a team looking to boost its offense (Edmonton), Davis’s presence could help create more parity in the league, making for more exciting and unpredictable competition.
In conclusion, Jarrett Davis has established himself as a notable figure in professional lacrosse through his consistent performance, playoff heroics, and strategic value in trades. His journey from Rochester to Edmonton represents not just a change in teams, but a significant shift in the competitive landscape of the NLL. As he continues to develop his skills and make an impact on the field, Davis’s career will be one to watch for lacrosse fans and analysts alike. His story serves as a compelling example of the dynamic nature of professional sports and the potential for young players to make a significant impact in the world of lacrosse.
National Lacrosse League: Paul Rabil Traded to Rochester Knighthawks | Bleacher Report
Paul Rabil (Photo Larry Palumbo)
The Rochester Knighthawks acquired all-star transition Paul Rabil this week from the Edmonton Rush as the summer trade and free agent season heats up in the NLL.
In a move between the East and West finalists in this year’s Champion’s Cup, Edmonton sent the rights to Paul Rabil to Rochester for forward Jarrett Davis.
The Rush acquired Rabil in a midseason trade that saw them send hold-out forward Athan Ianucci to the Washington Stealth. Rabil, who had wished to be moved closer to his home in the eastern United States, decided not to report to Edmonton and sat out the remainder of the season.
In spite of Rabil’s refusal to report, the Rush got hot at the right time and took an unexpected playoff journey all the way to the league finals.
Meanwhile, Davis finished his third year in the NLL with a solid 28 points before blossoming in the postseason and leading the team in playoff assists with nine.
This should be a good move for both clubs.
In Edmonton’s case, they essentially get something for nothing. Rabil was not going to suit up for them, so acquiring a solid young playmaker in Davis should help boost what was the lowest scoring offense in the NLL last year.
According to this article by NLL.com, Edmonton Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan said, “Jarrett is a talented, skilled, and athletic young right-handed offensive player and we need help on the right side.”
The departure of future Hall of Famer Shawn Williams by way of a trade leaves plenty of room for Davis to step up and develop into a front-line contributor for the Rush.
Rochester gets the better of the deal by virtue of bringing in someone many consider to be one of the top lacrosse players on Earth.
“He has the heart and passion that we’re looking for,” said Rochester Owner and General Manager Curt Styres in the NLL.com article.
A perennial all-star in the NLL as well as the MLL in the summer, Rabil averaged almost 31 points and 81 loose balls per season over his four seasons with the Stealth.
While his abilities certainly would have given the Rush a huge boost had he chosen to play out the season in Edmonton, a move east should get him back in uniform for the 2013 season, and that will pay huge dividends for the Knighthawks on both ends of the floor.
Mixing Rabil’s transition skills in with the scoring of Cody Jamieson, Johnny Powless and Mike Accursi should give Rochester a very strong foundation for years to come.

Dalgarno Scores Four as Buckeyes Down Bellarmine, 11-7 – Ohio State Buckeyes
COLUMBUS, Ohio In the first of four-consecutive games away from Columbus, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team downed Great Western Lacrosse League foe Bellarmine, 11-7, Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky. Senior Joel Dalgarno had a team-best four goals in the win to pass the 200-point mark in his Buckeye career, with classmate Jeff Ryan adding two goals and two assists for four points.
The Buckeyes improve to 6-4 this year, with a 2-0 ledger in league play. Bellarmine drops to 6-5 and is 0-3 in conference action. The teams were tied three times in the game Saturday, including 6-all early in the third quarter, but Ohio State outscored the Knights, 5-1, over the final 28:09 to secure the conference win.
After allowing the first two goals of the game, the Buckeyes went on a five-goal run to lead 5-2 at the end of the first quarter. Bellarmine’s Jarrett Davis opened the scoring just 58 seconds into the game and Sean Doyle tallied at 12:12 to put BU ahead, 2-0. Ohio State tied the game with two goals in 36 seconds. Sophomore Ryan set up Dalgarno at 8:59 and sophomore Mike Pires found Ryan at 8:23, knotting the score at 2-all. Freshman Eddie Bambino, in the first start of his career, set up Zach Boyt for his first career goal at 6:29, putting the Buckeyes in the lead for the first time (3-2). Ohio State scored twice in the final 1:23 of the quarter, with Dalgarno scoring unassisted and Ryan tallying with just two seconds left in the stanza. Each team had nine shots in the quarter.
Bellarmine went on a run of its own in the second quarter, scoring three times in 1:41 to tie the game again (5-5). Dereck Hopcroft scored two of the three goals, tallying at 9:16 and 7:37, sandwiched around a Doyle goal at 8:06. Senior Doug Ruhnke regained the Ohio State edge (6-5) with a goal at the 4:12 mark of the stanza. The Buckeyes were outshot in the quarter, 8-5.
Bellarmine tied the game once more (6-6) when Doyle tallied 1:51 into the third quarter. The Buckeyes then rattled off four-consecutive to take control of the game, holding the Knights to just one goal over the final 28:09. Ryan found sophomore Dan Bain at 8:07 to put the Buckeyes on top (7-6) and Bambino scored unassisted four minutes later. Ruhnke assisted on a score by Mario Ventiquattro with 1:59 left in the quarter, sending the teams into the final stanza with Ohio State ahead, 9-6. The Knights outshot the Buckeyes, 11-6, in the quarter.
Dalgarno tallied the Buckeyes’ 10th goal of the game unassisted 1:42 into the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 10-6. Trevor Timmerberg had the Knights’ final goal at the 7:39 mark and Dalgarno scored his fourth of the game with 4:34 left on the clock for the 11-7 final. Shots were 7-6 in favor of the Knights in the fourth.
In the game, the Buckeyes were outshot, 35-26, with each goalie making eight saves. Junior Brandon Freeman played 60 minutes and allowed seven goals for the Buckeyes. Bellarmine’s Scott Bowles gave up 11 goals in 60 minutes.
Ohio State was 0-for-4 on EMO chances in the game, including 0-for-3 in the first half. Bellarmine had just one extra-man chance and did not convert.
Postgame Notes
Ohio State will travel to Baltimore next week to take on North Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday in a neutral-site game at Calvert Hall College.
Dalgarno, who leads the Buckeyes with 16 assists and 37 points and shares the team goal-scoring lead with Ryan with 21 each, had his third four-goal game of the season. He is second in the Buckeye record books in both career goals (114) and points (203) and ranks third all-time in assists (89). He is just the second Buckeye to hit the 200-point mark, joining Terry Gilmore, who had 250 from 1976-79.
Ryan shares the team goal-scoring lead with 21 and is second with 32 points. In his third year with the squad, he is 23rd in Buckeye history with 107 career points (73g, 34a).
Bambino was making the first start of his Buckeye career. He had a goal and an assist for his first two-point game for the Scarlet and Gray.
Boyt’s goal was his first career point.
Pires is on a six-game scoring streak (8-2-10).
Ventiquattro, who has at least one point in each game this year, is third on the team in goals (15) and points (23).

I began playing lacrosse when I was seven. In the past 28 years I’ve experienced a lot in this sport: growing up playing box lacrosse in Canada, receiving a scholarship to play at Albany, living my dream by playing eight seasons combined in the NLL and MLL and lots of things in between.
The past seven seasons, I’ve been coaching in the MCLA. After you’ve been around the game for that long, you can tell a lot about how practice is going to go by the way the guys stretch.
Guys can hoot and holler trying to talk a good game to try to prove to others they’re ready to go. But once you know someone well, you can really see how they’re feeling in their body language.
It is not uncommon or unfair for college students to have slow days, especially at a school as academically rigorous as UC Davis. It would only be normal for someone to leave a three-hour neuroscience lab and drag a little on the practice field.
However, that is rarely the case with our UC Davis guys. They aren’t normal: they’re special.
I’m often amazed hearing about the kind of work they put in each day in the classroom and then seeing their effort on the field. Effort is infectious and, here at UC Davis, it spreads down from our group of seniors who model what it means to put in work.
I’ve only been at Davis for five years, so I can’t speak to the past teams, but I would be shocked if there is a class that has been as influential to the program as these young men have.
When this group of seniors arrived on campus, we struggled mightily with numbers: eight or nine guys a practice, 12 or 13 players a game, and we were lucky to get through the season with anyone left on the bench.
Then this group came in and changed all of that.
They began their college careers off rough, starting out 0-5. It was at that point when we sat down and thought about thinking outside the box: 10-man ride, two poles on offense, putting our goalie out there for man up.
If we’re gonna be young and inexperienced, we might as well try to do things others haven’t seen before to even the playing field a little bit. Asking players to do weird stuff like that can sometimes be daunting, but this group never second-guessed and excitedly jumped at the opportunity.
From that point, they took ownership of being the unconventional – having superior energy and pressuring everywhere. They decided to own that style and make it their own.
The past four years have been perhaps the most successful in UC Davis history, and it was all due to this senior class planting the seed. It was the first UC Davis team to make Nationals in 2018 and the first UC Davis team to win the WCLL in 2019 to go along with a repeat bid to nationals and a Top 10 national ranking.
These guys changed what it meant to be an Aggie lacrosse player and they have set the tone for what the expectations are for the program for years to come.
If I have one regret about this senior class, it is that they can’t finish what they started. We talk about how each season, you get an opportunity to write your story. I view their careers as one big book and we were just getting to the best part. This group was peaking.
These seniors were balling out and they were poised to record another first for the program this year: a win at nationals. Alas, they won’t have that chance.
It makes me sick to think this group, that wrote such an amazing story thus far, won’t have the chance to write their ending on the field. But one thing I do know is that these guys have made our program so much better than they found it.
They’re leaving behind an amazing foundation upon which our current players and prospective Aggies can build for years to come. There’s no doubt that well after they graduate, they will continue to be great ambassadors for UC Davis, the MCLA and for the sport of lacrosse.
Thank you guys for what you’ve done for the coaches, the alumni and your teammates. I love this class so much and am so proud to see the men you’ve become.
Can’t wait to see you all on the field again so we can get up and down one last time!

Burrards Thunder struck in Langley – BC Local News
The Langley Thunder had no problems finding the back of the net Wednesday night as they shelled the floundering Maple Ridge Burrards 16-11, handing the Burrards their eighth loss in 10 games this season.
With the win, Langley takes over sole possession of the top spot in the Western Lacrosse Association, while the Burrards cemented their position in the league cellar.
Despite shots being an even 44-42 in Maple Ridge’s favour, the Thunder seemingly scored at will for much of the game.
The Burrards fell behind early, and stayed behind, as the WLA’s top offence outscored them 6-3 in the first period.
The Thunder scored less than a minute into the opening frame, and opened up a 2-0 lead before Riley Loewen and Brandon Bertoia scored for Maple Ridge to tie the game.
Langley pulled ahead early, however, scoring four goals in the remaining six minutes of the period, as Tyler Codron scored Maple Ridge’s only marker in that span.
Despite being down by three goals, the Burrards were able to keep pace with the Thunder in the second period. Goals by Jarret Davis, Sam Cook, Randy Daly, Simon Giourmetakis, and Loewen helped the Burrards bring the score to 10-8 late in the period. With time about to expire in the period, the Burrards opted to pull their goalie while deep in Langley’s end to press for a goal. However, it was Langley who would a score; an empty-netter with three seconds left in the middle frame to restore their three-goal lead.
The third period was all Langley as they scored five times before the halfway mark to take a seven-goal lead. Creighton Reid, Davis and Loewen each had goals for the Burrards in the third, but it was not enough.
Neither goaltender for the Burrards had much luck against the Thunder’s shooters.
Drew Dickie, fresh off the team’s first win of the season on Sunday against the Burnaby Lakers allowed nine goals on 28 shots in 39 minutes of play, while Blake Duncan allowed six goals on 13 shots.
Langley’s special teams plagued the Burrards, as they scored four powerplay goals and an empty-netter. The Burrards, to their credit, managed to score three short-handed goals, two of them from the stick of Davis
While the Burrards struggled defensively, the team once again saw a balanced attack from their forwards, with eight different players scoring goals.
Loewen led the Burrards in scoring with a hat trick and an assist, while Davis also had four points, including two goals. Daly, Bertoia, Reid, and Giourmetakis each a goal and two assists, while Derek Lowe and Colton Porter each had two assists.
The Burrards are back home this Sunday, June 24 to take on the Nanaimo Timbermen in their first meeting of the season. The action gets underway at Planet Ice Maple Ridge at 6:45 p.m.

90,000 ACTORS OF ONCE IN HOLLYWOOD AGAINST THE REAL MANSON FAMILY | TRUE CRIMINAL TAPE
The title of the film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” really speaks for itself: the film feels like a fairy tale. But while many of the characters in the film are truly outrageous, many of them are actually based on real people.
The story follows the vanishing Hollywood star Rick Dalton (Leo DiCaprio) and his stunt double / best friend Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), who live next door to Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). As their story plays out, we also catch a glimpse of a group of young aimless people, mostly women, who talk reverently about a guy named Charlie. Rick and Cliff are fictional creatures, but Sharon Tate was very real and very famous – as was this group, the Manson Family, which gained eternal notoriety for killing her and others in August 1969.Below is a look at how the Manson members and their victims match up with their on-screen counterparts in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Herriman portrays the enigmatic cult leader Charles Manson, whose loyal followers will continue to commit some of the country’s worst murders. Manson spent more than half of his early life behind bars before being released from prison in 1967.A free man, Manson relied on his manipulative powers to attract struggling young men and women seeking a sense of “family.”
Using drugs, sex, violence and the perceived threat of racial war, he later convinced some of his followers to kill for him. Manson was sentenced to death for the murder of actress Sharon Tate and eight others in 1969. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment, where Manson died in 2017.

Visual and performing arts
Over the years of the school’s existence, the fine arts have gone from extracurricular activities to integration into the curriculum.Beginning in the 1890s, student-sponsored choirs and orchestras performed at semester dinners, and for the following decade faculty advisers led these circles. In 1901, the first performance was performed by students under the guidance of a professor and teaching advisor. These groups evolved into clubs known as “Etta Kappa Alpha” (theater) and “Offbeats” (singing), which made important contributions to the extracurricular life of Worcester Academy. In the early 1980s, courses in the performing and visual arts were offered.By the end of the decade, the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts had been formed. Theater was offered as a course shortly thereafter and the curriculum has expanded significantly since then.
Visual arts
Upper School Art Studio courses include ceramics, jewelry design, fiber making, and architecture. In addition to drawing and painting courses, digital art courses are offered. Web design and animation are also part of the arts curriculum.

Theater program
Worcester Academy has been offering an extensive curriculum in performing arts since 1988. The instructors emphasize ensemble and artistic excellence. The curriculum and coeducational programs provide both serious preparation for those who may wish to pursue a major in performing arts in college, as well as opportunities for students who may be studying theater for the first time and wish to explore their interests.
The theater arts courses are taught by four theater graduates. Three theater departments hold degrees in theater arts. One of them was awarded the Olmsted Prize, a national award for excellence in teaching.
Students perform in two different theaters.
– The Andean Pit Theater, located in the basement of Walker Hall, will be replaced by a building on the south campus that was previously a power plant.
– The Warner Theater, painstakingly restored in 2000 to its original beauty, is an elegant 360-seat theater.
Students perform in three fully edited High School performances and a fully edited High School performance. One of these productions is an annual musical. High school students present class projects to enthusiastic friends and family.
Theater students attend professional performances at some of the great regional theaters in Boston, Cambridge, Providence and Hartford.
Each summer, the Moonstruck Theater Company, founded by Worcester Academy graduate Carolina Fonseca ’05, presents a completely edited production at the Andean Pit Theater. Many members of the troupe are graduates of the Academy’s theater program, and many WA students gain valuable hands-on experience as trainees at Moonstruck Theater.

90,000 Sue Parents FIFA USA Football Over Concussions – World
Image: Natasha Pisarenko / Associated Press
Head injuries became a hot topic during the World Cup this summer, and now a group of American parents have filed a class action lawsuit against FIFA, the US football and other organizations about how head injuries are prevented and treated in sports …
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of current and former footballers, does not claim any monetary damages, but aims to change the rules of football to protect young players from brain injuries and to improve the way professional players are screened and treated for concussions. In addition, the American Youth Football Organization, American Club Football, American Youth Football and California Youth Football Association are named in the collective action proposal.
Parents say that footballers under the age of 17 are only allowed to head bangs a limited number of times and that the substitution rules must be changed at a professional level.
Professional teams are currently only allowed three subs per game – this increases the incentive for coaches to leave players on the field after being hit in the head to avoid burning a precious substitute. However, the class action lawsuit is counting on temporary replacements so that medical personnel can assess players following possible concussions.
In the most striking example of the FIFA World Cup, Mr. Christoph Kramer of Germany delivered a nasty blow to the head but stayed on the field and continued playing while visibly stunned before leaving the field 12 minutes later.
FIFA is the only non-US body listed in the suit, which was filed Wednesday morning in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. But the plaintiffs say that, as the governing body of world football, the FIFA Laws of the Game, which do not set rules regarding concussions, sets standards for smaller bodies of any size.
“Every organization in the United States follows the laws of the game,” said attorney Steve Berman, who represents the plaintiffs in their collective complaint. New York Times, “If FIFA changed the laws of the game, they would be different at every level.”
Wednesday’s lawsuit comes at a time when soccer and hockey concussions are also under scrutiny. In July, a federal judge approved a deadlock for former NFL players in a strict class-action lawsuit seeking league liability to compensate former players for dementia, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and other medical conditions associated with re-head injury.

Misty Copeland proves that ballerinas are strong as the most challenging athletes – Entertainment Program
This is likely not too far to suggest that most sports fans do not associate ballet with the grain of sand, strength and determination praised in games such as football, soccer, and basketball.
But sportswear brand Under Armor, which just signed with ballerina Misty Copeland, turns that thought upside down in a one-minute video embedded in this post.
Copeland began ballet at the relatively late age of 13, but nevertheless rose to the top of her field. In 2007, according to her official website, Copeland became the first African American to be named a soloist at the ultra-prestigious American Ballet Theater in 20 years. And she accomplished all of this after a tumultuous childhood that included poverty and family issues to excel in sports where minorities are few and most girls start training in preschool.
This hardly scratches the surface of Copeland’s tale of badasseria in ballet, but take a look one minute above for how you feel about the weekend.
