How To Fix a Wobbly or Loose Lacrosse head – Get Hyped Sports

Lacrosse heads can become wobbly or loose from the consistent contact it makes with either a player or the ball. Loose lacrosse heads throw off both the timing and direction of the lacrosse throw.

It’s important to check your stick before every practice to ensure that you’re practicing at maximum efficiency each day. Fixing the loose or wobbly lacrosse head only before games will throw off timing during practice. As the old saying goes, “you practice as you play.”

How To Fix A Woobly Or Loose Lacrosse Head

Lacrosse’s heads are connected to the shaft via a screw (see picture below).

The screw keeps the lacrosse head firmly in place when screwed in tight.

When a lacrosse head feels loose, it’s often because the screw is either stripped or loose. There are a few simple ways to fix the wobbly or loose lacrosse head.

Get A New Screw

If the screw is started to become stripped ( in other words, worn down), purchasing a new screw will help fix the issue. We’ve found a pack of 30 lacrosse screws on Amazon for a low price that should last you a few seasons.

If you’re looking to choose the right screw for your lacrosse head, we’ve written this article that will help you better understand how to disassemble your current stick and reassemble it with the proper screw.

Tighten Your Current Screw

Tightening your current screw is more than likely the case for why your lacrosse head is wobbly.

The best tool for fixing a wobbly screw is finding a Phillips head screwdriver that will securely tighten the screw. Tighten The String On The Lacrosse Head

The consistent impact of the ball hitting the lacrosse head can lose the netting and the strings. Always double-check to make sure the “loose” feeling isn’t just lace.

Tightening the string on the lacrosse head can give the head a more firm feel. Double-check the lacing on the stick as well as the screws to fix a wobbly or loose lacrosse head.

Use Tape Before Screwing The Stick In

This is a great trick to stop the annoying rattle of the stick. Here is a video by former MLL star Paul Rabil on ways he stops the rattle.

Fixing the lacrosse stick with tape:

Unscrew the screw that connects the shaft and the head
Wrap tape around the end where the shaft meets stick. This will provide a stable base and less wiggle room for the empty space on the head to move around. It will also stop the annoying clicking sound on the lacrosse stick.
Slide the head back onto the shaft, screw the screw back in and the rattle should be gone

Drill A New Hole

If you’re consistently getting a rattling sound or loose/wobbly head even after you’ve tried all of the options above, you may want to drill a new hole for the screw.

The self-made hole can be manipulated to fix the screw, so it hugs the shaft without any issue. This is, of course, a worst-case scenario but could be a temporary fix for the loose shaft issue.

Conclusion

Case honored with national lacrosse award

When Caleb Case read the text message, he didn’t know exactly how to interpret the news.

A senior on this year’s Park City High School boys’ lacrosse team — and notable brainiac who scored a perfect 36 on the ACT — Case was notified by his mother that he had just received a new national high school lacrosse honor known as the Bob Scott Award.

But Case had never heard of the award, so he did what anyone would do. He Googled it.

“It sounded like something neat,” he said. “When I looked it up, I thought, ‘Wow this is a lot bigger than I thought.’ I was pretty surprised. I had never even heard of it, and didn’t know I was even nominated for it. It kind of came out of the blue.”

The Bob Scott Award, according to the US Lacrosse website, “recognizes a high school senior player who truly honors the game of lacrosse. The senior must be an exceptional player, who invests time to develop the game in his community, is an exemplary member of the team, embodies the spirit of the game on and off the field, and is a valued academic role model within the school community.”

The explanation aptly describes Case.

During lacrosse season, Case would get up at 5:45 a.m. two to three days a week to be a peer tutor at Park City High School. After school, Case would have a couple hours for homework or social activities until lacrosse practice got underway, typically at 5 p. m. each day. In addition to his grueling schedule, he is the head of the Red Cross chapter at PCHS and is also a youth liaison on the board of directors for the Red Cross Salt Lake City chapter.

“He is not the best player on the field, not the star of the team, but really, like all of these kids, to put in the practice time, practice six times a week from January on — it takes so much dedication,” said his mother, Kristen Case. “Again, Caleb is not the only one. To be in lacrosse, they have to be involved.”

According to a press release from US Lacrosse, Bob Scott served as the men’s head lacrosse coach for Johns Hopkins from 1955 until 1974. He compiled a career record of 158 wins and 55 losses, winning seven national championships. He coached at Johns Hopkins longer than any other coach (20 years) and is still its all-time leader in career wins. Scott served as athletic director for Johns Hopkins from 1974 to 1995 and was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1977.

“This is an opportunity to show our appreciation to a player who may or may not be All-American-level, but like Bob Scott, has a true passion and love for the game,” said Stephen Berger, US Lacrosse men’s game director in the release.

Case has a true passion for lacrosse, and has since fifth grade.

“Compared to a lot of sports I’ve played, it’s a free-wheeling, go-and-play kind of sport,” he explained. “It’s more than just run around with a stick and hit people. Some of it is a good combination of grace, some things are really smooth and pretty to watch, and there’s just as much gritty toughness. There’s good balance.”

Case will be attending Claremont McKenna College, a private liberal arts school near Los Angeles, Calif., this fall.

“It was one of my favorite schools I’d seen,” he said. “If we could make it work, I was into it.

“And they have club lacrosse, and I definitely want to keep playing.”

Kristen Case said the Bob Scott Award wouldn’t have been possible without the help of head coach Andy Langendorf, who spent an hour-and-a-half filling out the necessary online forms to nominate Case.

At the end-of-the-year team banquet, the team gave the brainiac a standing ovation.

“To see them be so happy for him — and they really were — that meant a lot,” Kristen Case said.

And it did to Caleb Case, too.

“It feels like at least four years worth of recognition kind of bundled into one, four years of working hard two hours a day and trying to juggle everything else in the process,” he said. “It was nice to be recognized for all the juggling I did.”

If the throat of the head becomes too pinched, the player’s stick could be called illegal during official gameplay. Players specializing in the face-off position commonly experience a similar challenge and fight it off “pinch” using a hockey puck or softball stored in their gear bag.

How The FlexForce Works

The product is wider than 3. 5″, the normal manufactured distance between sidewalls, because the plastic sidewalls tend to want to shrink back to its original pinched distance. After a lot of trial and error, we have found that the plastic wants to shrink back down about two-tenths of an inch, which is why FlexForce is about two-tenths of an inch wider than the desired distance.
The angles along the sides of FlexForce allow the product to gradually slide in and expand the walls of the head. Eventually the 3.75” of the product makes contact with the pinched area of the head. The extruded “ribs” on the lower sides of FlexForce are designed to hold the product in place and prevent it from sliding out of the head.

The design and size of the FlexForce aren’t its only key qualities, however. The product is made with a mixed polycarbonate and ABS material which makes it extremely durable and heat resistant up to 225 degrees.

Considerable debate continues regarding the use of protective headgear in

women’ s lacrosse [8, 9, 11, 12, 14]. Protective eyewear was recently approved

for optional use. Additionally, agreement was reached between the US Women’s

Lacrosse Association and the NCAA to permit the optional use of soft headgear

[14]. However, use of helmets remains prohibited in women’ s lacrosse but a

requirement in men’ s lacrosse. The findings of this study suggest that the use of

additional protective headgear should be encouraged in women’ s lacrosse. Despite

restrictions on body and stick checks, the mechanics of the game, which include the

use of a hard ball and stick, a target box for catching passes at the level of the player’ s

head adjacent to the ear, rapid rates of ball travel (up to 90 miles per hour in the

men’s game) [15], and close player/player positioning during competition, place all

players at risk of head injury.

Injuries in children also frequently involved the head and face region. In fact, the

youngest children, aged 4± 11 years, appeared particularly at risk of injury to this

area. As in women’ s lacrosse, the mechanism of injury was primarily contact with

the ball. Use of protective gear at the scholastic level is limited [11]. Additionally,

player skill, such as stick control and ability to pass and safely catch the ball, may

place younger players at increased risk of injury to the head and face, despite limited

player/player contact [5].

The results of this study support the use of protective headgear in both women’ s

and youth lacrosse, despite the rules limiting player± player contact.

Skate covers

By using skate covers, your skates will last longer and you will enjoy skating. The main function of covers is protection of the blade from foreign objects. So that your riding technique does not suffer, we recommend that you put covers on the blades of your skates to avoid “dullness of the blades”.
