Top String Tuesday: Two Triangle Top String

What is happening here??

This week I’m sticking to the blue and orange theme that I went with in last week’s Braided Top Shooter.  I love the triangle top string.  I love the way it looks.  I love the way it keeps the ball from hitting plastic and I love the fact that you get to use two different colored top strings to customize your pocket a bit.  This week I decided to get a little tricky with what I am calling the Two Triangle Top String.  The Two Triangle Top String is essentially the same thing as a triangle top string.  The difference being that the Two Triangle Top String requires you two cross your two top strings over to give the top string a multicolored look.  Typically, the triangle top string runs one color for the standard 9 diamond top string and one for the triangles.  The Two Triangle Top String switches between the two colors.  This is simply just a unique spin on a classic top string but I thought it looked pretty good with my braided top shooter.  Check out the photos below to string your own.

Step 1: SO Important to use a 9 diamond row.  This top string won’t work with a 10 diamond row in the mesh.

MUST use 9 diamonds.

Step 2: Cinch your color 1 top string to the sidewall and first piece of mesh.

Nice and tight to the sidewall.

Step 3: Send color 1 through the back of the head and out the front.  Bring color one back to the back of the head through the loop that you just created.

Step 4: Unlike a traditional triangle top string, you need to string the Two Triangle Top String with both pieces of top string at the same time.  Insert your top string color 2 into the same sidewall hole as color 1.  Keep the string on the front of the stick as it is the start of triangle 1.  Send color 2 through the front of the head and out the back.

Step 5: Loop color 2 through the back to the front and then around color 1, bringing color 2 back to the back of the head.

Step 6: Send color 2 back through the back of the head and out the front.

Step 7: Insert color 2 underneath the fold in the 3rd diamond.  You will skip this diamond and string diamond 4 to the second top string hole just like you would with a traditional triangle top string.

Under the fold in the 3rd diamond that you will skip.Under and out diamond 3.

Step 8: This is where the Two Triangle Top String differs from a traditional triangle top string.  Color 2 becomes the inner color and color 1 becomes the triangle. Send color 2 through the back of the head, bringing it back to the back through the loop you just created just like in step 3.

Step 9: Color 1 becomes triangle 2. String color 1 up underneath the second half of the fold in diamond 3 to the front of the head.  String color one through the front and out the back of the head.

Color 1 becomes triangle 2.

Step 10: Loop color 1 from the back to the front, around color 2 and then back to the back of the head.  The string will be pulled from the back to the front through top string hole 2.  This step completes triangle 2.

Step 11: Repeat steps 3-10 two once more for triangles 3 and 4.

Step 12: Use color 2 to cinch your 9th diamond to the top sidewall hole on the side of your head opposite the side that you started stringing on.

Step 13: Send color 1 out the front of the head through the top sidewall hole, again, opposite the side that you started stringing.

Color 1 out the end.

Step 14: Knot that ish.

Tied off and ready to rock.

Step 15: Prepare yourself to have the coolest stick on the field.

TORONTO – Like so much in John Tavares’ life, his connection to Canada’s Indigenous people can be directly traced through his love for sport.

Today, on the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs captain thought back to being four years old, when he was introduced to the sport Indigenous Canadians introduced to the world.

Tavares still remembers the day a lacrosse stick was placed in his small hands. Like a family baton. Tavares’ uncle John, 53, remains the National Lacrosse League’s all-time leading scorer. Uncle Peter played pro, too. And little John fell in love with the sport, running around with that stick at Uncle Danny’s house.

“I grew up around a lot of Indigenous people playing the game of lacrosse. Lacrosse is one of our national sports, and I was around that community a lot. Tremendous culture and tremendous people,” Tavares said Thursday, wearing an orange Leafs T-shirt.

Every child matters.

Tavares has reflected on the importance of Canada’s overdue day of reflection and education, the lost children and survivors of residential schools.

“It has little extra meaning for me. But I think it should have significant meaning to everybody just because of what happened and how we can learn from it. And not just reconcile but make the Indigenous peoples and their culture and who they are — really — a main part of our society and us as Canadians,” Tavares said.

“It’s tremendously difficult to understand and extremely sad. But it’s extremely important to learn and understand where we’ve come from, and an important part of our history and important culture that should be part of all of our lives. ”

Although a star lacrosse player in his youth Tavares’s last season as a participant was the summer after he was drafted (with exceptional player status) to the OHL’s Oshawa Generals.

The Generals allowed him to play one last summer of competitive lacrosse in 2005, but after exploding for 77 points in 65 games as an underage rookie on the ice, Tavares knew it was time to become a one-sport athlete.

And while Leafs teammates (and former youth lacrosse players) Nick Ritchie and Mitch Marner both spoke of the hand-eye and cardio skills translating from the floor to the ice, Tavares believes the physical nature of lacrosse best prepared him for a life in hockey. (Confirms Marner: “The slashes are no joke in that league.”)

“Your ability to roll off checks and move through traffic, take contact with and without the ball,” Tavares explained. “It seemed to really help me in tight areas around the ice, around the net — just finding ways to create openings and get shots off or extend plays. ”

The Tavares family’s love for lacrosse is being extended, too.

John has already placed a mini lacrosse stick in his two-year-old son Jace’s hands.

• UConn kicks-off the Hockey East slate this weekend with a home-and-home series against No. 10 nationally ranked Boston University.  The Huskies host the Terriers on Friday night at XL Center and travel to Agganis Arena in Boston on Saturday night. 
• This will be the 19th and 20th meetings between UConn and BU with another match-up slated for down the road in January.  BU holds a 10-6-2 edge in the all-time series.  The Huskies and Terriers met just once last season during the pandemic shortened season, a 3-2 BU win in overtime at the Freitas Ice Forum.
• In their last two visits to the XL Center, Boston University left with an overtime loss, both game-winners coming off the stick of former Husky Alexander Payusov.  
• Saturday’s trip up to Boston starts a string of seven-straight on the road for the Huskies, who won’t return back home to the XL Center until November 12th against Boston College.  This will be UConn’s longest road swing on the season.
• The Huskies were picked to finish sixth in this year’s Hockey East Preseason Coaches’ Poll, their highest ever spot in the preseason ranking.  UConn also received votes in the season opening USCHO Top-20 poll released earlier this week.  In six of their seven seasons in Hockey East, the Huskies have outplayed their preseason prediction.  Last season, UConn was tabbed seventh in the preseason poll and finished fourth in the final standings, their best-ever conference finish. 
• UConn is coming off a season opening 6-3 win at home last Saturday against state rival Sacred Heart.  The Huskies ended a seven-game winless streak against SHU and got their first win over the Pioneers since the 2013-14 season.  This will be the season opener for BU who got a 6-1 win over Holy Cross in an exhibition last weekend.
• Junior Vladislav Firstov scored a pair of goals while sophomore Ryan Tverberg scored on the power play and added a pair of assists in the win over Sacred Heart.  Senior Marc Gatcomb and grad student Kevin O’Neil each had empty netters for the Huskies.
• Senior Jachym Kondelik scored what would be the game-winner in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and help send the Huskies home with a season opening win.  Kondelik didn’t score his first goal last season until game 22, the regular season finale when he buried three against Providence.  Kondelik is coming off his third-straight season of 20-plus points, finishing with four goals and a team-best 18 assists last year.  He is the Huskies leading active career point leader at 72 points (17g/55a).
• Grad student Darion Hanson made his UConn debut in goal and made 31 saves to earn the win.  He also picked-up his first career assist, getting the second helper on Firstov’s second goal of the night.   Hanson comes to UConn after three years at Union.  He started 78 games with a 2.55 goals against average, a .913 save percentage while winning 30 games with seven shutouts.  He did not compete last season due to Union opting out due to the pandemic.
• The leadership for this year’s Huskies will be made up by a foursome of upperclassman.  Seniors Carter Turnbull, an assistant captain last season, and Jachym Kondelik will wear the “C” on their jerseys this year while fellow senior Marc Gatcomb and junior Roman Kinal will serve as assistant captains.
• Coming off a campaign were the Huskies averaged 3.0 goals per game and generated 35.6 shots per outing, UConn brings back plenty of offensive fire power in 2021-22, including their top-seven scorers who all posted double digit points.
• UConn is led by the program’s first-ever Division I All-American in senior Jonny Evans.  The senior forward was a CCM/AHCA second team All-American, UConn’s first since 1998, after winning the Hockey East scoring title with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists.   Evans also became the first UConn player to be named a Hockey East First All-Star.  Evans was also a finalist for the Hockey East Player of the Year award as well as being a Hobey Baker candidate.

Last Meeting vs. BU

February 20, 2021 @ UConn – L, 3-2 (ot)

• Boston University freshman Luke Tuch scored the game-winning goal 44 seconds into overtime to lift the No. 11 Terriers over UConn, 3-2, at the Freitas Ice Forum in the only meeting between the two schools last season.
• UConn took a 2-1 lead into the third period but BU senior Max Kaufman tied the game up at 13:59 and then Tuch won in in the overtime, dealing the Huskies their fourth overtime loss this season.  Both teams went scoreless on the power play with BU’s overtime winner coming just as a UConn penalty expired.
• The Huskies went up 2-0 in the first period behind goals from Carter Turnbull and senior Brian Rigali.   BU cut the lead in half late in the first as Jay O’Brien scored with under a minute to play.  O’Brien and Kaufman both finished with a goal and an assist while senior Logan Cockerill had an assist on all three goals.
• UConn goaltender Tomas Vomacka made 28 saves in taking the loss.  BU freshman goaltender Vinny Duplessis stopped 27 for the win.

This stunning stretch has been voted the most popular beach in Western Australia and resembles the boulder-strewn threads of the Seychelles (no rustling palms). Granite islets lie offshore, and the wide, flat coastline and shallow sand bar create ideal conditions for families with young children – the safest beach in Esperanza for swimming and surfing.Lifeguard patrols during the summer months.

3 Esperanza Museum

A visit to the enchanting Esperanza Museum is the rush of all the treasures in Grandma’s attic, but with space debris thrown into the mix. This quirky little pearl describes the social history of the region along a theme, from antique agricultural machinery to early telephones, old railroad vehicles, and even kitchen appliances.Perhaps the most unique exhibits show the debris from the Skylab that fell to the ground near Esperanza in 1979. Interestingly, Esperance fined NASA $ 400 for garbage. Thirty years have passed, but the fine has now been paid in full.

Travelers to Australia have probably heard of the Great Ocean Road, a scenic route along the country’s southern coast. The Great Ocean Drive is a Western Australian version of the nearly 40 km tourist trail that runs along Esperanza’s pristine coastline and loops back into the city. Along the way, sightseers can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and stop at elevated beaches to surf, swim, picnic or fish.Highlights include the Rotary Lookout, perched on a granite outcrop with panoramic views of Esperance and the Recherche Archipelago, the Twilight family beach, western wind farms, and Pink Lake, which changes color due to salt tolerant algae in the water, although it was not pink over time.

Crystal clear seas, sparkling beaches and cobblestone coves are the main draws in Cape Arid National Park, 120 km east of Esperance.This huge park is best accessible with four-wheel drive and is located east of Cape Le Grand , with similar coastal landscapes. Granite headlands shelter white-sand beaches that offer fantastic fishing and water sports in summer.

Above Mount Arid , sightseers can enjoy spectacular views of the coastline and small islands in the eastern part of the Recherche archipelago. In the north of the park, the rocky Russell District rises from a pickled scrub from 600 m Tower Peak at its highest point.Coastal walking paths and indoor trails are a great way to explore a variety of plants and animals here, which include many birds such as the mulga parrot and purple lorikeet. 6 Fitzgerald River National Park

About 3 hours drive west of Esperanza Fitzgerald River National Park is a botanical wonderland.This expansive reserve is home to over 20 percent of recorded plant species, including many orchids and proteins. Some of the species are found only within the park. The scenery here ranges from sparkling coves, great for swimming and fishing, to undulating plains and rocky coastal peaks. In the spring, especially September, fields of colored wildflowers bloom, creating fantastic photo opportunities.

The Fitzgerald River cuts through the Barren Areal , which lies along the Southern Ocean, with distinct rock faces and steep slopes.From the peaks, tourists can enjoy magnificent views of the coast; Point Ann is the main attraction for whale watching between July and October. Scenic drives are a great way to explore the park. South of Hamersley Drive, winds past some of the best coastal attractions such as 4 Miles Beach, Barrance Beach, Barrens Lookout and The Cave. An impressive network of hiking and hiking trails runs through the park for those who enjoy walking.

Stokes National Park, about 80 km west of Esperanza, covering calm waters Stokes Entrance , a deep estuary with fantastic fishing, kayaking, singing, boating, and bushwalking. Long dune beaches and rocky outcrops line the coastline, while low hills roll into the depths.Many species of plants and waterfowl thrive on the banks of the depression and in the neighboring wastelands and wetlands. Anglers can cast their lines for black bream, King George Whiting and Australian salmon. At 4.3 km Heritage Trace , tourists can enjoy the beautiful view of the entrance and learn about how the area has evolved over time. The main entrance to the park is suitable for 4WD vehicles, however 4WD is required for the rest of the park.

8 Warden Lake Kepwari

Birds and nature lovers will love Walk the Capvari Trail, 5 minutes from Esperance center. Bush-edged trails and forest paths weave 3.6 km (one way) along the wetlands through banks, sedge lands and over dunes. Along the way, interpretive signs exchange information about the wetlands, and two bird skins provide a quiet haven for serious birds and photographers to watch many water birds. Travelers can complete their return journey in about two and a half hours.
