Brighton is regarded as one of the top two or three teams in the state, and Friday’s convincing victory just further confirms that notion.
There were certainly question marks heading into the season after Brighton graduated nine seniors from last season, in what was supposed to be the first year as a UHSAA sanctioned sport.
“We were really gunning for state last year. It was devastating to have it be over, but this year I feel like more willing to be here. The time spent on the field is valuable cause you never know when it’s going to be gone,” said Nash.
Brighton’s coach said her players are pumped up for every practice, and even conditioning drills are fun after COVID-19 cut last year’s season well short.
One of the main constants for Brighton has been Haley Taylor. She was the team’s best player as a junior last season, and already she’s proven to be one of the best attacking players in the state.
She scored three of Brighton’s first five goals in the opening 12 minutes of the game.
“She’s definitely a threat and teams pick up on her so fast. In the first four or five minutes she’ll get three or four goals and then they face guard her rely tight, but she’s awesome at moving the ball around getting feeds in and breaking the face guard,” said Nash.
Heffernan was a huge asset on the faceoffs for Brighton, which usually retained possession after scoring which allowed it to pile up the goals early.
While the attack was crisp most of the game, Nash said her young defensive did well but that will be one of the biggest areas the team will look to sharpen up as the season goes on.
Brighton Bengals Outlast Copper Hills Grizzlies
The Brighton Bengals hosted the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Tuesday evening with both teams looking for their first win of the season. Both teams lost to two of the top teams in the league last week with Brighton losing to defending champions Park City by a score of 14-0 and Copper Hills falling to American Fork 19-2. Both teams were looking forward to this matchup to get a better sense of what their team looks like.

Brighton started the game in dominating fashion as they scored the first six goals of the game; two goals each by Haley Taylor and Addison England as well as goals by Paige Sieverts and a goal by Hannah Gebaauer assisted by Morgan Harris. Copper Hills was finally able to get on the board with a goal by Payton Keller coming off a free position shot. Brighton scored another two goals, one by England and a goal by Grace Rappl to put the Bangles up by a score of 8-1 with less than 5 minutes left in the first half.

Just as the game was appearing to be a blow out, Copper Hills showed off some firepower of their own. Over the next four minutes, Copper Hills gave the Brighton defense all they could handle. Copper Hills began winning the draws and found ways to score. Keller scored her second goal of the game followed by a free position goal by Emily Hokanson. Elizabeth McDougal and Allie Reiser scored back to back fast break goals causing Brighton to call a time out to try to stop the bleeding. Following the timeout, Brighton was able to stop Copper Hills from scoring again before the half-time horn sounded.
With a half-time score of 8-5, Copper Hills had all the momentum and was longing for a comeback victory. The Brighton Bengals, however, had other plans. Brighton came out in the second half much like they did the first. Brighton scored four consecutive goals, two by Sieverts and one each by Rappl and Gebauer.
Then came the play of the night. A Copper Hills defender had the ball deep on her side of the field trying to clear it to her offense. Brighton’s Haley Taylor blocked the pass causing the ball to roll near the Copper Hills goalie. As the Copper Hills goalie attempted to pick up the ground ball, Taylor checked the ball loose and was not only able to pick up the ground ball, but she immediately found Addison England in front of goal for a beautiful assisted goal.
With the score now 13-5, Copper Hills continued to battle, but was not able to make another strong run. Keller scored her third goal of the night as well as a goal by Sarah Bailey. But Brighton answered with goals by Baylee Bruce, Siverts and Gebauer to make the final score 16-7.

Brighton had six different players scoring a goal or an assist led by Addison England and Paige Sieverts with four goals each as well as Haley Taylor with two goals and two assists. Goalie Alyssa Le had four saves on 11 shots on goal for a 36 percent save percentage.
Copper Hills was led by Payton Keller’s three goals. Sarah Bailey, Emily Hokanson , Elizabeth McDougal and Allie Reiser had one goal each. Goalie Savannah Larsen had eight saves on 24 shots on goal for a 33 percent save percentage.
The Brighton Bengals will hope to keep their winning streak alive as they travel to play first-year team Fremont on Thursday. Copper Hills will travel to Woods Cross on Thursday looking for their first win.
Brighton Lacrosse Alumni Honor Seniors After Season Cut Short Due To Coronavirus Pandemic
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Brighton lacrosse team were the favorites to a state championship this year but their season was cut short.
The Bengals along with every high school in the state of Utah didn’t finish their seasons in spring sports due to the coronavirus pandemic.
For the seniors on those spring sports teams, that meant that their high school careers are over.
It was the first season that lacrosse was sanctioned as a sport by the Utah High School Activities Association.
Brighton lacrosse alumni honored the seniors who didn’t get to finish their season.
They went from house to house while the seniors sat in their front yards. The alumni rode by in their cars while honking and waving with their vehicles decorated.
“To have that taken away really hurts,” said former Brighton lacrosse player Bubba Fairman. “I know a lot of these kids were gutted. So, we wanted to support them in any way that we could.”
One of the players who didn’t finish his season was touched by what the community did to honor the seniors.
“Knowing that they are thinking about us and still watching us shows a lot about our community at Brighton High School,” said Brighton senior Kyler Kehl.

How Do I Prevent It?
The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:
- Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
- Avoid touching your face
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

It will mean a lot more to Brighton coach Rich Curtis and his Barons if they’re No. 1 at the end of the season, but for right now they’re the top-ranked team to start the spring.
Brighton, which is off to a 4-0 start, is the No. 1 team in the first Democrat and Chronicle‘s Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll. The Barons have Friday to prove it’s not just on paper. The Class B Barons play at three-time defending Section V Class A champion Pittsford (1-0) at 7 p.m. The Panthers have won sectionals six times in the past seven years.

The Barons earned seven of the eight first-place votes in the poll. Pittsford got the other one.
The Panthers are expected to be at full strength, too. All-Greater Rochester midfielder Caroline Cullinan has been cleared to play. She missed the opener, a 6-5 double overtime win against No. 10 Fairport, recovering from a serious cut on her forehead suffered in the Class A state championship game in basketball.
For more than a decade, Brighton was once the dominant large-school girls lacrosse program in Section V. Curtis’ teams won 11 straight sectional titles from 1998 to 2008. Canandaigua ended the Barons’ reign in 2009. Brighton has come back to win titles in 2011 and 2013. Curtis has been there from the start back in the mid-1990s. He has a career record of 334-80.

World Lacrosse Adds Its Support To The Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration on Women and Sport
GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA — World Lacrosse President Sue Redfern has reaffirmed the international federation’s commitment to furthering opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport by signing the Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration on Women and Sport.
The signing took place during SportAccord 2019, the largest annual gathering of leaders from across international sport and business.
President Redfern was joined for the signing by Australia National Team athlete Sachiyo Yamada; Irina Gladkikh, the International Olympic Committee’s Associate Director for Olympic Winter Sports Federations who also works on gender equity matters for the IOC; World Lacrosse Board members Fiona Clark, Ron Balls and Bob DeMarco; Development Committee Chair Rick Mercurio; and Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr.
“We are honored to add our full endorsement and support to the Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration on Women and Sport,” said President Redfern.“To do so at SportAccord 2019, and to be joined by one of our great international athletes, Sachiyo Yamada, and with Irina Gladkikh from the International Olympic Committee, makes this signing all the more special.”
“One of the core values of lacrosse is opportunity. As an international federation, we are committed to making certain women and girls around the globe have the opportunity to participate in our great game and benefit from the life-changing values of sport.”
Developed and established by the International Working Group (IWG) on Women and Sport in 1994, the Brighton Declaration is an international treaty that has become a road map to support the ongoing development of a more fair and equitable system of sport and physical activity, fully inclusive of women and girls.
Its intention is to complement all sporting, local, national and international charters, laws, codes, rules and regulations relating to equity in sport and physical activity, whilst also setting an even higher benchmark related to the full inclusion of women and girls in all aspects of society. Those that endorse the Declaration commit to upholding the 10 principles that enable women and girls to freely and safely participate, compete and build careers in sport and physical activity.
In 2014, on the 20th anniversary of its original establishment, the Brighton Declaration was updated by the IWG to become the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration, to better reflect a changed landscape, including major developments in international policy, while still holding true to the founding principles.
Today, over 550+ global organizations are signatories to this treaty – with more organizations joining every day. To become a signatory to the Declaration is to show a belief in, and commitment to, developing a culture that enables and values the full involvement of women in every aspect of sport and physical activity.

90,000 Forecast Brighton – Everton (ENGLAND Premier League, 12 April 2021 at 22:15)
On April 12 in England, Brighton will host Everton at home. The fight will definitely become extremely interesting, since the teams will enter the field, which create a lot of chances throughout the fight. And it’s not even clear at once who will be able to win up, because there are several features that are distinctive in this fight.
Odds 1×2 from (as of 30/03 14:26)
- Brighton – 2 wins.85 (P 1 = 33.3%)
- Draw – 3.31 (P x = 28.6%)
- Everton wins – 2.49 (P 2 = 38.1%)
- Margin – 5.46%
Brighton
Brighton is ranked 16th in the table. But, this should not be misleading. If you look at how much the team creates and does not score, then everything changes at once. Brighton knows how to create many moments, the problem is only in the implementation. But, in the last fights, the team won 2 victories, beating their direct opponents. Brighton will act openly, without even thinking about defense. And this is what shows that the team has stability and good preparation.
Everton
At some point in time, Everton was walking in the Champions League zone. But, the class of footballers is definitely not enough to show a stable result throughout the season. Now the team is in 8th place in the table and shows its strength.Everton knows how to act openly, blocking the center of the field. But, often this is not enough for the team, which is why significant mistakes are made. Everton scores well, while conceding few goals. And these are important criteria that directly show that the team is ready for the championship race.
Personal meetings
If we take as a basis the 5 duel that was played between these teams, then the result is quite predictable. Everton won 3 wins, Brighton 2.
Odds 1×2 from (as of 30/03 14:26)
- Brighton – 2 wins.85 (P 1 = 33.3%)
- Draw – 3.31 (P x = 28.6%)
- Everton wins – 2.49 (P 2 = 38.1%)
- Margin – 5.46%
Forecast for the fight
The match will be exciting in every sense. Both teams will definitely be able to score and will show their high level of preparation. At the same time, do not forget that Everton has more chances in reality, since the team is more tactically flexible. But, if we talk about the result, then there is a high probability of a draw. It is unlikely that one of the teams will be able to show good preparation and stability. It is these distinctive features that should be taken into account.
