What are the key factors to consider when selecting a lacrosse head. How do different positions require specialized head designs. Which lacrosse heads offer the best performance for attack, midfield, and defense players.
Understanding the Importance of Lacrosse Heads
Lacrosse is more than just throwing a ball with a stick – it’s a demanding sport that requires precision equipment. The lacrosse head is arguably the most crucial component of a player’s gear, directly impacting ball control, shooting accuracy, and overall performance.
Why is choosing the right lacrosse head so important? The head’s design affects:
- Ball retention and control
- Shot power and accuracy
- Passing accuracy
- Ground ball pickup
- Defensive checks and poke checks
With various designs tailored for different positions and playing styles, selecting the optimal lacrosse head can significantly enhance a player’s capabilities on the field.
Position-Specific Lacrosse Head Designs
Lacrosse heads are not one-size-fits-all. Different positions on the field require specialized head designs to maximize performance. Here’s a breakdown of the key characteristics for each position:
Attack Heads
Attack players need heads designed for quick ball movement and precise shooting. Key features include:
- Narrower face shape for ball control
- Deeper pocket for ball retention
- Flexible sidewalls for quick release
Midfield Heads
Midfielders require versatile heads that balance offensive and defensive capabilities:
- Medium-width face shape
- Moderate pocket depth
- Stiff construction for ground balls and checks
Defense Heads
Defensive players need durable heads optimized for checking and ball dislodging:
- Wide face shape for intercepting passes
- Shallow pocket for quick passes
- Maximum stiffness for powerful checks

Key Factors to Consider When Choosing a Lacrosse Head
When selecting a lacrosse head, several factors should influence your decision:
1. Position and Playing Style
Your position on the field and preferred playing style should be the primary consideration. Attack players need different features than defenders or midfielders.
2. Head Shape and Width
The shape and width of the head affect ball control, shooting accuracy, and checking ability. Narrower heads are typically better for attack, while wider heads suit defensive play.
3. Pocket Depth
Deeper pockets offer better ball retention but can slow release speed. Shallower pockets provide quicker release but less control. Consider your position and style when choosing pocket depth.
4. Material and Durability
Look for heads made from high-quality materials that can withstand the rigors of play. Defensive players, in particular, need highly durable heads for aggressive checking.
5. Weight
Lighter heads offer quicker movements but may sacrifice some durability. Heavier heads can provide more power but may slow down your play.
6. Stringing Options
Consider the stringing hole pattern and whether it allows for easy customization of your pocket.
7. Compliance with Regulations
Ensure the head meets the regulations for your level of play (high school, college, or professional).
Maintaining Your Lacrosse Head for Optimal Performance
Proper maintenance of your lacrosse head is crucial for consistent performance and longevity. Here are some key tips:
- Regularly check and tighten strings to maintain pocket shape
- Clean your head after each use to remove dirt and debris
- Store your stick in a cool, dry place to prevent warping
- Avoid leaving your stick in hot cars or direct sunlight
- Replace worn strings promptly to maintain optimal performance
How often should you replace your lacrosse head? While it depends on usage and care, most players should consider replacing their head every 1-2 seasons for optimal performance.
Customizing Your Lacrosse Head for Personal Preference
Many players choose to customize their lacrosse heads to suit their individual playing style. Common customizations include:
- Adjusting pocket depth and placement
- Experimenting with different stringing patterns
- Adding or removing sidewall holes
- Customizing the scoop shape
Is customizing your lacrosse head worth it? For many players, customization can significantly enhance their performance by tailoring the head to their specific needs and preferences. However, it’s important to ensure any modifications comply with league regulations.
Remember, finding the perfect lacrosse head often requires some trial and error. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different options to find what works best for your playing style and position. With the right head, you’ll be well-equipped to elevate your game and dominate on the lacrosse field.

Lacrosse Head Reviews
Well if you haven’t played lacrosse then you probably just think it’s just a game where you throw a ball around with a stick. Technically, you’d be correct, but if you’ve played lacrosse you know it’s much more than that, it’s a lifestyle for some. Lacrosse is one of the most demanding sports, and it requires total concentration from the entire team to have success. Lacrosse is a serious sport that includes full contact between players, and it has a few playing styles. Full contact lacrosse is more common with men’s teams than women’s. The game requires a lacrosse stick or crosse, and protective gear such as helmets and body padding. The game has pretty simple rules and objectives. The objective is to take the ball and put it into the opposing team’s goal, but they will be trying to stop you. You pass the ball along to your teammates using your lacrosse stick, so a great stick is important for passing and scoring with the ball.

Lacrosse teams trade sticks for lightsabers – The Rocky Mountain Collegian
Some super sick LAX bros totally shred the field while facing off with some sick new sticks that use kyber crystals to make them totally radical. (Smack Attackit | The Unprecedented Times)
The Colorado State club lacrosse teams have seen a massive increase in walk-on players this season. You might be wondering why, especially after the COVID-19 polyamorous halted all in-person activity.
Is it because the men’s and women’s teams are number one in the country and can recruit purely on reputation? Absolutely not, because that’s not true. It’s because the Men’s and Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associations have made massive changes to equipment regulations in an effort to appeal to wider demographics to save the dying sport.
In an effort to save the sport from fading into irrelevance, the league has given players a new option for their weapon of choice on the field. While a midfield player is used to grabbing their 30-40-inch stick, they can now choose a 3-foot long lightsaber. For goalies, the double-bladed lightsaber made famous by Darth Maul will take the place of the traditional goalie stick.
The CLA has also offered a variety of color options so each university can pick ones that best align with their school spirit.
After clearing it with the sport clubs office, a final decision was made early last week regarding the new color scheme CSU athletes will brandish. Colorado State will abide by Star Wars canon to help bridge the gap between the athlete and nerd demographics and incorporate the traditional green lightsaber of the Jedis into team play — while also staying true to school colors.
The thought process behind this pop culture equipment overhaul is that it will make lacrosse more accessible to the masses. Whether you are just a recreational Jedi or take part in the more serious live-action role-playing found in City Park every Sunday, the hope is that the switch to lightsabers will help to even the playing field and entice more prospective athletes beyond just your standard east coast LAX bro.
However, with the introduction of deadly weaponry, many will have some questions surrounding the danger of getting an appendage cut off at the hands of an intergalactic sword.
“What if I get my arm cut off by a lightsaber?”
No need to worry — the CLA has got you covered. Along with the new lightsabers, they are also releasing a whole new line of lacrosse gear for men and women that will help mitigate the potential danger.
Ever heard of beskar? If you’re in the nerd part of the population, then you are already very aware. Athletes, listen up. Beskar is a metal that can withstand being struck by a lightsaber.
Feel like the Mandalorian yet? Well, you’re halfway there. Beskar will be added into to the athletes’s chest, elbow and hand protection along with an entirely new helmet completely made from the material.
Convinced that lacrosse is now the coolest sport in the world? If so, you can head to the CSU lacrosse team’s Facebook page to submit a walk-on application and start your path to becoming the greatest lacrosse Jedi of the century.

Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2022 Schedule
Note: All dates are subject to change; Times will be announced at a later date.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania’s James H. Greene Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse, Mike Murphy, has announced his team’s schedule for the upcoming 2022 season. Once again, the Quakers are set to embark on a 2022 schedule littered with quality opponents as the Red and Blue look to return to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time.
“We could not be more excited to take the field again for the first time in a long while, and play a full season,” Murphy said. “Starting with our very tough non-conference opponents in February, then leading into our Ivy slate in March and April, we hope to earn the right to play into May and see how long we can keep this group together, playing great lacrosse and having fun. Our 2020 and 2021 seniors handled the COVID disruption extraordinarily well and have set the table for our 2022 team to pick up where we left off in 2019. The lacrosse world seemed to forget about the Ivy League last year, we’re excited to show them that we are still here.”
Penn’s 12-game slate features five home games including the season opener on February 19 when the Quakers host Georgetown. The schedule also includes neutral-site games with Duke (Saturday, Feb. 26 at a location to be determined) and Penn State (Saturday, March 5 in Charlotte, N.C.).
Quaker Notemeal
*This year’s Ivy League Tournament will take place Friday, May 6 and Sunday May 8 at a site still to be announced.
*Georgetown and Penn will play for just the third time. The season opener for the Quakers will mark the first game between the two teams since 1994.
*Penn and Duke will play for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Head Coach Mike Murphy was a three-year starter for the nationally ranked Blue Devils and captain of the 1991 team. The Quakers have won two of the last three meetings against Duke including a neutral-site clash in 2020.
*Penn and Penn State will renew their in-state rivalry this season. Three of the last four contests between the two teams have been decided by just one goal.
*The Quakers will look to avenge a setback to Villanova during the shortened 2020 season. The Wildcats have won four of their last five games against Penn. The Red and Blue won their last game at Villanova, 13-11, in 2019.
*Penn’s game with Princeton will mark the first Ivy League action for the Quakers in 1,064 days.
*Cornell and Penn will play for the 96th time this season. Penn has won three of its last four games against the Big Red and two of those games have been decided by one goal.
*The last time Penn and Yale squared off was in the quarterfinals of the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Each of the last three games between the Ancient Eight rivals have been decided by one goal and two of those tilts went multiple overtimes.
*Penn and Harvard will meet for the 90th time this spring. The Red and Blue have won seven in a row against the Crimson.
*The Quakers are 14-2 all-time against Saint Joseph’s.
*Penn and Albany will play for the first time to end the regular season.

“Provincial actors created a dream theater”
Igor LARIONOV: “Provincial actors created a dream theater”
– Just a couple of days ago I flew to Detroit from Quebec and ended up in the same hotel with the Toronto Maple Leafs. At breakfast we sat down at the same table with Brandan Shanahan. We talked for an hour and a half. Discussed just that team and that hockey, which was played under Scotty Bowman during the “Russian Five”. Those performances on ice that we staged in the 90s will forever remain in our memory associated with the Joe Louis Arena. It will be sad to say goodbye to her. It really was a lot of historical events: victories, and disappointments, and the success that came 45 years after winning the last Stanley Cup … It was something phenomenal. It’s also sad under what circumstances this farewell will take place: for the first time in 26 years, the team does not make the playoffs.
On the other hand, the fans in Detroit, of course, deserve a new home – beautiful, comfortable, comfortable. But the new team will have to build the atmosphere, lay new traditions in this house. And how many years it will take – we will find out only after some time.
But, you know, Joe Louis Arena was still an amazingly atmospheric place. The atmosphere was simple, folk, but very tangible – akin to an old theater in which a collective of great actors performed. One had only to go there – and you immediately began to understand how much history is there. These walls, hung with photographs dating back to the times of Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio – like in an old prayed monastery, if you will …
And what was the price of our legendary ice-maker Al Sobotka, who picked up octopuses from the ice during the playoffs and waving them over your head.Do you know what else he did? After every playoff round he won, he would have a barbecue for us at the docks where trucks call in. Imagine, we are training, and the aroma of these fried ribs, chicken or hamburgers is already going through the arena that all the desire to work disappears, and Scotty Bowman simply did not know whether to stop his training or continue. Everyone was thinking only of how to finish and get to Al and his signature dishes.
This last year, of course, turned out to be very difficult for Detroit and its fans.Even tragic, I guess. First the great Gordie Howe passed away, then Mike Ilic, then the Red Wings didn’t make the playoffs, and now it’s time to say goodbye to Joe Louis. However, the new arena is also the legacy of Mike, who himself knocked out land from the city authorities for its construction. He had a long-standing dream – for the team to move to their home. But now, of course, everyone is very sad that he himself will no longer see this.
I think the last match on Sunday will be very emotional for everyone.First of all – for the fans who have already sold out all the tickets for this game a long time ago. You just can’t get them anymore.
When in 5-10 years I remember about Joe Louis Arena, two associations will immediately flash in my head: how we played there with the Russian Five, and how the audience reacted to this game. How they could give us a standing ovation just for a beautifully performed shift, even if we didn’t score a goal in it. It doesn’t matter if we won that match or lost: the fans received a spectacle for every dollar they spent. And when we achieved success, I simply cannot convey in words what harmony arose between the players and the audience. It was somehow felt through their reaction, their support. So the Joe Louis Arena got its share of history and fame: in the end, provincial actors came to this old house and created a dream theater there.
Scottie BOWMAN: “This arena gave us an advantage”
(about 25-year cup series)
– It was a great multi-year segment for the entire organization led by owner Mike Ilich, who always did everything to win what I could. He spent 35 years with the club and invested huge resources in it. But with the introduction of the salary cap and the expansion of the NHL, each team has had to make tough decisions, after which the continuation of such a streak is very difficult. Today teams have to be built differently than before and it is very difficult to maintain a high level for so many years. ” advantage.Opponents often complained about the strange bouncing of the pucks, and this could sink so deeply into their subconscious that it created a serious advantage for us. Detroit fans were always loud, and this charged with additional emotions. Anyway, it was a great place to work, and I was lucky enough to work within these walls with a lot of great people.
(Joe Louis memorabilia)
– In the 1996 Western Conference playoff semifinals against St. Louis, Steve Yzerman scored his famous second overtime win in Game 7.We didn’t make it to the finals that season, but it was a great streak and a great win for us. She became an important part of the construction process that allowed us to win the Stanley Cup for the next two seasons in a row.
In 2002, we defeated Colorado 7-0 in the seventh match of the Western Conference Finals. Our rivalry with Avalanche in those years was one of the main confrontations of that era. We won the Stanley Cups in 1997 and 1998, and they won in 1996 and 2001, so that streak was kind of a tiebreaker. That year we, having dealt with them, also won the Cup. In those years, we played many memorable matches against each other, but this match will forever remain in the memory of Red Wings fans as special – simply because the teams were at odds with each other then.
Mike BABCOK: “People were most remembered”
– The last game in this legendary arena will definitely be special. I have said many times how much this place means to me. I had a wonderful time there, I have a lot of friends in Detroit.I would like to say that not only the building itself is unique, but the people who work there are even more unique. Detroit has amazing fans who have always supported us in an incredible way, especially in the playoffs. My children go to the University of Michigan, so I am still strongly connected with this city. Once again, I have a lot of great memories of my time in Detroit. The main memories I will have are the people who made Joe Louis Arena a special place.I remember very well all the Detroit employees, the people who filled the ice, cooked the food, brought the coaches beer after the matches. It is a pity that the Red Wings are leaving this historic place, but on the other hand, it is great that the team will now play in a modern arena. This is also important.
Sentenced to Death – Chapter 6. Where Conversations Lead …
I sharply turned my back, covering my face with my hands. But even in those short few seconds, one could understand that he had an amazingly proportional physique with well-developed muscles.
– Sorry, I shouldn’t have broken in like that, I said in embarrassment.
– Never mind, Christian said confidently. You can turn around, I’m dressed, he added.
I turned to face him, continuing to cover my eyes with my palm. Protruding one finger, and making sure he was really dressed, I removed my hand.
– You think I’m deceiving you, chuckled Christian.
– What happened to you? I ignored his words, I said.
– What are you talking about?
– You’re in the nurse’s office, Christian, they don’t just come in here.
– Watch out Allison.
– In what sense?
– I might think that you are worried about me.
“If you don’t want to, don’t answer,” I said. I’ll wait for Mrs. Chan in the hallway.
I was about to go out, as Christian said:
– This is because of lacrosse, the coach sent me here to make sure that I am healthy and can train.
– When do you start training?
– Today.
– Why lacrosse? Judging by the statistics of your performance in the last school, you are very good at rugby.
– Have you studied my statistics?
– I’m in the rugby team cheerleading. And there the information disperses at an incredible speed.
– I’m new, it’s clear that now everyone and everyone is discussing who I am and what I am worth. But rugby is no longer interesting to me. You see …
Before Christian had finished speaking, Mrs. Chan entered the office.
– Mr. Martelmanz, you can start training, your health indicators are normal.
– Thank you, said Christian and left the office.
– And you …
– Allison, helping to remember my name, I said.
– And you Allison, can I help you?
– I would like to collect my things.
– Oh, things, of course, there they are. Everything is safe and sound.
– Thank you Mrs. Chan, goodbye.
I left the office, to the right of the door, leaning against the wall
, Christian was standing.
– Why are you still here, I asked in surprise.
– I decided to help you, taking the bag with textbooks and a bag of clothes from my hands, he said.
– I would have done it, a little confused, I replied.
– Well, we are in one direction, what a friend I would be if I left you with these bags.
I smiled, and together we headed towards the dressing rooms.
-Allison?
-Yes
-You never told me about party week.
-It was originally considered a tradition. High schools are throwing start-of-school parties, and now it’s kind of a competition, I said with a smile.
– I don’t understand.Tell us more.
-Well, we have 3 schools in our city. The parties are organized by the senior classes, jointly choosing the unfortunate person whose house is likely to be ransacked. Next, the theme of the party is selected, we have already organized: Halloween, party of fairies, bikini party. Frankly, the guys were delighted with the latter, I said, smiling and looking at Christian. He smiled slightly and said:
– I’m not surprised, really. Are there party rules?
– Not at all. Each school determines its turn by lot. This year we are the first. Then the North School and then the West. The winner is chosen on the last day.
– Have you decided on the topic?
-We haven’t even tried yet. Today, after training in the gym, the meeting, we will decide on the time, come, I said.
-This is not for me, chuckling and shaking his head from side to side said Christian.
-You see, we, the support team, the rugby team and the lacrosse team are doing this. So you kind of should be there.
-Okay, since you have such rules, I will come, smiling and stopping, said Christian.
– Why did you stop, I said in confusion.
– The third dressing room is yours, isn’t it?
-Um, and really mine, thanks for the help, taking things from Christian, I said.
-No why, I’ll see you next.
-Christian … Good luck, I said almost in a whisper.
-Thank you … and you try not to fall anymore, said Christian with a smile and disappeared around the bend.
90,000 Catapult and Prevent Biometrics form partnership to integrate athlete performance and safety data
Catapult has partnered with Prevent Biometrics to support the development of the world’s first accurate real-time head-bump monitoring system for athletes.
As part of the partnership, the two companies will jointly test their technology in North America, Europe and Australia, based on initial testing conducted with the University of Colorado football team during their spring training session in April.
“As part of our program, we take the safety of athletes seriously and, in particular, want to be proactive in our head and brain health,” said Miguel Rueda, associate director of sports and head of athletic performance at the University of Colorado.“The Prevent System provides our employees with continuous, accurate and comprehensive head impact data for each athlete. Combining Prevent and Catapult datasets and workflows has tremendous potential. ”
Several elite American football, rugby and Australian rules teams will be equipped with catapults in the upcoming tests. ClearSky Athlete Monitoring Technology and Prevent Exposure Monitor Mouthguard. The tests will aim at a comprehensive assessment of athlete performance and headbutting with the ultimate goal of understanding the physical requirements of elite competition, with an emphasis on well-being and safety, while ensuring that athletes are in the best possible position to perform.
“The combined Catapult and Prevent dataset goes beyond the obvious benefits of simply knowing that a player has received a significant headbutt,” said Albert Tsai, Catapult Senior Vice President, Global Elite Products. “With this data, teams can use the relationship between learning, performance, and head health to proactively work to reduce overall exposure.”
The work between Catapult and Prevent further underscores the commitment of both businesses to create technologies that simultaneously support performance on the field and enhance the well-being of athletes. As we continue to test the system, it will be interesting to see how the partnership can help develop truly innovative productivity technology.

90,000 Russia came to the MFM to be the coolest. Coaches believe in the intelligence of hockey players and do not simplify the game even under pressure from Canada – Hockey News
Totally about the national team – before the start of the MFM.
Russia drove a test match against the Canadians. It turned out briskly, informatively, in style and with the correct result: a 0: 1 defeat two days before the start of the MFM is much more useful for the team than a 6: 0 victory in the second match of the group stage. The next game with the Canadians is only possible in the playoffs – and our boys already have something to push off from in preparation for it.
The youth did not look as enchanting as they did at the senior tournament in November, but there is a concrete explanation for that: Canada U20 is the most energetic team on the planet.Playing with her is the most stressful conditions for the start of the tournament. Our team has not competed for about a month – naturally, after such a break and against such robocops, the team mechanics creaked a little. Another thing is important: we immediately plunged headlong into a very fast, much higher than average pace of decision-making. It is unlikely that the whole tournament will be so fast, and we have already tested at the highest speed. Fine.
“We played against a strong opponent,” Igor Larionov said after the match.- Therefore, it is worth making allowances for the fact that the guys have to adapt to this pace. Let’s give credit to the Canadian national team, which plays good, aggressive, compact hockey. ”
Against the background of this slight creak, the global match results are rather good. Canada owned territory, but did not create anything much more dangerous than those moments that we had. Despite the individual successes of the Canadians, the content of the match was, rather, a draw.
In general, the test was supposed to sketch a rough portrait of our team – and this portrait turned out to be pretty.
Profile: triplets, majority, goalkeepers
About the composition of Larionov said that it will still change:
“Friendly matches for this are envisaged to watch different combinations. We didn’t want to use flashy links in the first friendly game. ”
So, we will see how it will develop (and what its bright links will be). But in any case, there is already an option from which you can build on.This is how the roster looked today.
There was no particularly powerful three in the attack – the game developed in such a way that we attacked mostly on the move, and in this format no one was much more successful (as the score indicates). Even looking at the squad, it is difficult to say which of the trios are not exactly in the top 6 and even which of them is not in the top 9.
Ilya Safonov was striking – the biggest player on the ice, not at all as agile as the Canadians.
There is order with the blue line: despite the pressure in our zone and the serious amount of losses, the defenders did not panic, rolled back out of the goal, set up the body, looked for options for passes, short and long. A very important sign is the number of moments created by Canada. Against the background of completely real successes in the forecheck, the Canadians created as many chances as we did – that is, the defenders knew what to do in case of a loss, the attackers insured them, and the compact block coped in its zone. This is moderately upbeat news.
“Askarov has become more experienced and calm compared to last year,” Larionov remarked after the game. – He was already at this tournament, under this stress. This plays a colossal role. We’re happy with how he’s evolving and it’s good that we have a goalkeeper who can do the key saves. Today Yaroslav played great. ”
This is generally true. However, one match is too short a distance.
We had a small majority, and what was, Russia used quite so-so – the Canadians simply ate their first removal by movement in their zone and throughout the site.
At least the contours of the special brigades were visible – they will almost certainly play with the Americans in the same compositions.
There is not a single right-handed player in the first special brigade (we have one for the whole team). This will require sophisticated decisions from both players and coaches – we will monitor the situation.
Details: detailed match plan and true style
There is a feeling that this team will get decently for losses in their zone. They will say this: Larionov does not solve the problem with the number of errors! Guard! All hands on deck.
I will say right away: it will get from anyone, but not from us. Errors and losses are the result of the team’s amazing attitude to the puck, to the initiative. For the first time in a hundred years, the team aims to win through creativity, through invention, through courage, and not through rhythmic swotting of the head against the wall. We came to the tournament to drive each opponent around the entire site. In some minutes it will not work out very well, and in some moments it will not work at all.But this vector itself is amazing.
So today the national team has not changed its style: no matter how many Canadian strikers flew into our zone, the defenders raised their heads and looked for reasonable options for passes. Our youth team tried to the end not to avoid the Canadian pressure (by instantly throwing it under someone else’s blue), but to outsmart it.
When they got used to the fact that our defender goes out of the gate, we turned a feint that was unexpected for him, passed the middle zone in two assists and flew into the attack with a numerical advantage. An important thing about the Russian national team: today it showed that it is not playing according to a template.
This was evident in the positional attack – which, however, was not very much. Our attackers tried to make not the simplest, but cunning and unexpected decisions: abandonments, hidden passes between the legs to the defender, and so on. It’s even interesting who in the coaching staff could teach them this? Haha.
The positional attack was not an end in itself.Any attack began with a throw – and we stayed in the zone if we managed to win the rebound: today the Canadians were very energetic and fought great for free pucks, so we had less positional attacks than we would like. But when the opportunity was there, we attacked wisely.
In general, the plan was – just the speed of Canada and the circumstances created by it prevented this plan from being revealed today. It’s OK.
We have lost. Where does so much positive come from?
Very simple.First, we immediately got a shot of adrenaline. This was very important to the Americans.
Secondly, from the very first minutes, Canada launched a firm forcheck and used it for the entire match, trying to cover our difficult exits from the zone – and it rather succeeded. Losses in our zone and positional attacks on our goal, which began right after these losses in this match, were somehow even too much.
At the same time, the xG score is almost equal (1.98 – 2.22 in favor of Canada), the Canadians did not create any super dangers from this possession. We insisted each other very well in defense and regularly surprised the Canadians with quick / direct options for getting out of the zone.
