Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Pace for First Road Game of 2021
The No. 14/20 New Haven women’s lacrosse team will make their first road trek of the season on Saturday when they travel to Pace University for an afternoon battle with the Setters. Opening draw from Pace Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with all the action broadcast live on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
SERIES HISTORY VS PACE
In a series that dates back just five years, the New Haven women’s lacrosse team holds a 5-1 record against the Setters, including two wins during the 2019 campaign, the latter of which came in overtime of the NE10 Championship quarterfinals. The lone loss for the Chargers came during the 2018 meeting with Pace taking a 15-10 decision in West Haven.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers look to break a two-game skid with their first road contest of the season on Saturday after dropping decisions to Le Moyne and Bentley in back-to-back home games. Overall, New Haven is averaging just over 10 goals per game with senior attack Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) leading the way with 11 goals, having scored in each of the first three games. Also netting at least one goal in all three contests is junior midfielder Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), junior attack Julia Astram (Milford, Conn./Milford) and freshman midfielder Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier). Among that trio, Skelly leads the way, entering the weekend with eight goals, while both Levitt and Astram have four goals to their credit. In goal, the Chargers have relied on freshman Fabi McLeod (Concord, N.H./Cheshire Academy) in its last two games, with the rookie stopping 17 shots combined.
SCOUTING THE SETTERS
Pace, who enters the weekend ranked No. 24 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and is receiving votes in the US Lacrosse Magazine Poll, sports a perfect 3-0 record on the young season, outscoring those three opponents by 13 goals per game (19.3 gpg vs 6.3 gpg). Their most recent outing was a 22-8 win over the visiting American International Yellow Jackets on Wednesday evening. For the season, Pace’s offense is led by Carlyn Mucci who sports 19 goals to her credit, 13 more than her closest teammate. Overall, 15 different Setters have found the back of the cage, making up their 58 total goals as a team. Between the pipes, the Setters have split time between a pair of keepers with junior Sienna Masullo starting all three games and racking up 12 saves and all three victories.
LINTON SETS PROGRAM RECORD IN SEASON OPENER
Heading into the season opener, New Haven’s graduate defender Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) needed just nine draw controls to tie Kathryn Campbell ’12 for the program record. By the time the final horn blew, Linton hadn’t just tied Campbell, she surpassed her career total setting a new program record with 276 total draw controls. The best part about it, Linton has 10 more games on the schedule to add to that total putting it farther out of reach for future Chargers.
HOLLAND ON THE HUNT
With her six goals in the season opener against American International, senior attack Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) began her milestone march towards 100 career goals. Currently with 61 goals, if she were to maintain her current four goal per game average, she would reach the century club in the regular season finale which slated to be against Saint Rose on May 1. If she were to reach that plateau, she would be the 18th player in program history to hit that mark, and the first since Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) ’19.
SKELLY KEEPS STREAK ALIVE
Dating back to April 27, 2019, junior midfielder Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) has scored at least one goal in each of the last eight games for the Blue and Gold. Overall in her career, she has scored at least one goal in all but four of her 23 games played, entering today’s game against Bentley with 40 career goals, inching closer to the mid-century mark.
THE 2021 SCHEDULE
As announced by the league prior to the season, the NE10 adopted a divisional format for 2021 – Northeast and Southwest – with all schools slated to play a 12-game conference schedule. Each team will play their divisional opponents twice. New Haven will play in the Southwest Division which is made up of seven teams including Adelphi, American International, Le Moyne, Pace, Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut. In addition to its 12-game conference schedule, this game against Bentley will be the lone non-divisional game for the Chargers this season.
CHARGERS FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL
In a poll of the conference’s 14 head coaches, the UNH women’s lacrosse team was selected to finish fourth, among the seven teams, in the Southwest Division. Adelphi received 86 points and eight of the 14 possible first place votes to take the top spot in the division. Just two points behind them was Le Moyne who scored the remaining six first place tallies. Rounding out the top three was Pace with 61 points, followed closely by the Chargers with 58 points. Southern Connecticut (38 points), American International (32) and Saint Rose (26) rounded out the division. In the Northeast Division, Bentley and Assumption finished just one point apart for first place, with the Falcons earning 79 points and five first place votes, while Assumption came in with 78 points and seven first place votes.
LINTON NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
In its annual release of preseason All-Americans in early January, US Lacrosse Magazine included graduate defender Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) among its 13-member team. Linton was one of four players in the Northeast-10 to earn the distinction. In the shortened season in 2020, Linton finished with 18 draw controls, splitting them evenly against Holy Family and New York Tech, also scoring once against each. The defender has been a force on the draw since arriving at New Haven, amassing 265 total heading into the season opener against American International. Her 265 draw controls is currently second most in program history, needing just 10 to pass Kathryn Campbell (2012-15) who finished with 274. In addition, Linton has scored nine goals, racked up 103 ground balls and caused 90 turnovers.
CHARGERS NATIONALLY RANKED IN BOTH POLLS
Following the Saturday bout with Le Moyne, the Chargers remain among the top teams in the country, earning a spot in both the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and the Nike/US Lacrosse polls. In the Coaches Poll, conducted by the IWLCA, New Haven enters the week up one spot to 14th among the top-25, while in the Nike/US Lacrosse Poll, New Haven comes in 20th in the 20-team poll conducted by the national governing body for women’s lacrosse.
New Haven will continue its road trip with a second-straight away from its West Haven Campus on Wednesday, March 31 when the Blue and Gold travel to Garden City, N.Y. for a date with the Adelphi Panthers. Opening draw from Motamed Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with all the action from the game carried live on NE10 NOW.

Lacrosse Stick Buying Factors
You might be thinking that buying a lacrosse stick is as easy as visiting the nearby store and pick the one that suits your budget and requirements. But sadly, this is not the case. Are you going to purchase the complete stick or are you going to purchase the head and the stick separately?
Some people even purchase multiple lacrosse heads and then swap these heads out every now and then. However, if you are a beginner, you should rather purchase the complete kit as it will save the hassles to a great extent. Here are some factors that you need to carefully consider while purchasing a lacrosse stick –
1. Handling and Feel
It does not matter whether you have put on lacrosse gloves on or not, the lacrosse stick should offer a comfortable grip. If you find the shaft hard to handle, probably it is not a good idea to put your hard-earned money on it. Find a lacrosse stick that is easy to carry and has the right length depending on your position.
2. Playing Positions
Contrary to what most people believe, not all lacrosse players use the same type of lacrosse stick. Depending on their positions in the field, different lacrosse players use different types of lacrosse sticks.
The shaft length of the goalie’s stick is around 40 inches and sometimes, it can be shorter than that. The reason is quite obvious. Goalie usually does not have to cover a lot of ground or have to make a lot of moves in lacrosse. They just need to stop the ball from entering the goal and which is why they need shorter and lighter lacrosse sticks as these types of lacrosse sticks to offer more mobility and flexibility.
The defenders, on the other hand, need a larger lacrosse stick. Defender lacrosse stick’s length could be about 60 inches. Large lacrosse sticks help defenders to snag a shot and thwart opponent team’s player from making advances with the ball.
Attackers and midfielders use a shorter and lighter stick as they have to cover a lot of ground and they need to show more agility and mobility on the ground. A heavy lacrosse stick would slow them down and they will out of breath very fast. This is the reason why they use a 40 inches long lacrosse sticks.
Your lacrosse sticks should be made from high quality and durable materials, right? It is no brainer but how do you know what material is right for your lacrosse stick? lacrosse sticks these days are constructed from different materials and therefore, making it all the more difficult for people to make the right choice. Here are some common materials that are used to construct lacrosse sticks –
- Scandium alloy – It has the benefits of all the other three materials that we are going to describe in detail below. Scandium alloy is strong (just like titanium), tough (just like ceramic) and lightweight (just like aluminum). Thus, it is no wonder that premium lacrosse sticks are all made from Scandium alloy but they come with a higher price tag. Scandium alloy is primarily used in the aerospace industry because of its strong and lightweight nature.
- Carbon fiber – lacrosse shafts made from Carbon fiber are well known for their durability, longevity, and ruggedness. But Carbon fiber lacrosse sticks come with a hefty price tag and therefore, not ideal for high school students. To be honest with you, Carbon fiber lacrosse sticks are meant for the professionals. Both professional lacrosse attackers and defenders will find Carbon fiber lacrosse sticks extremely useful.
- Aluminum – Aluminum lacrosse sticks are extremely lightweight and strong and thus ideal for beginners. And the best part, Aluminum lacrosse sticks are available for the cheap in the market.
- Titanium – Just like aluminum, Titanium too is lightweight yet strong. However, if you go into the details, you will soon figure out that Titanium is a little bit stronger than aluminum and which is why so many lacrosse manufacturers are opting for Titanium to produce strong and durable lacrosse stick. Titanium lacrosse sticks are probably the lightest but they are a bit expensive than their aluminum counterparts.
The weight of a Lacrosse Stick should also be taken into consideration while purchasing the best Lacrosse Stick. The longer the Lacrosse Stick is, the heavier it gets. Probably this is the reason why Goalies and Attackers use shorter Lacrosse Sticks as they have to stay more agile and nimble in the game. Extra weight can slow attackers and which is why attackers always prefer shorter Lacrosse Stick.
However, while practicing, it is advisable to use heavier and longer Lacrosse Stick as they help build more muscles that players will sorely need in this physically intensive game. However, beginner Lacrosse players should start with lighter Lacrosse Sticks and once they get the hang on it, they can start practicing with longer and heavier Lacrosse Sticks.
5. Shooting strings
Shooting strings ease the release of the ball from the pocket of a Lacrosse stick. From the top of the head of the Lacrosse stick, shooting strings run horizontally and these strings have a direct bearing on the whip of the shot. In case, you have no idea what a ‘whip’ is, allow us to break it down for you in simple English. Whip in Lacrosse is the ball’s angle as it gets released by the player from the pocket of their Lacrosse stick. If you want to lower the trajectory of the ball, you will have to choose a Lacrosse Stick that has got more whips on its pocket. This type of Lacrosse Sticks (that have lower trajectories) tend to be preferred by attacking players in the game.
If you are looking for a lacrosse stick that can be maneuvered easily and effortlessly, you need to opt for a stiff lacrosse head. Lacrosse heads are usually available in these following variants –
- NCCA – NCCA lacrosse heads are quite popular among college students.
- NFHS – NFHS lacrosse heads are quite popular among youths. This lacrosse head is immensely popular among high school students.
- Universal – This is a popular choice regardless of the age, style, and position of a lacrosse player. If you have no idea what lacrosse head is best for you, you should stop wasting your precious time and opt for this one without any hesitation.
However, if you are a goalie, you will have to find a large-sized lacrosse head. Typically, goalie heads tend to be longer than 10 inches and sometimes, even more.
More often than not, most Lacrosse sticks either have a mesh pocket or a woven pocket on a traditional lacrosse head. Now, you might be wondering why you have never come across a Lacrosse stick with woven pockets well, the reason is quite obvious. The market has got overtaken by mesh pockets in the last few years. This massive shift of the market from traditional woven pockets to mesh pocket has something to do with the lightweight nature of the mesh pockets. Made from nylon webbing, mesh pockets are really strong and they are extremely durable thus making them ideal for attackers and goalies. The chances of rebounds have greatly been minimized by the inclusion of mesh pockets and which is why mesh pockets have become a huge hit among goalies.
However, not everything is nice and dandy with mesh pockets. Mesh pockets, like any other good thing in the world, too have its share of drawbacks and the chief among them is the inability to control the Lacrosse ball while running with it. Woven pockets, on the other hand, offer a greater level of control while running with a Lacrosse ball.
The depth of the pocket should not be overlooked as well. Attacking players like to opt for shallower pockets as they help in long passes whereas defensive players tend to opt for deeper pockets as they need to keep the ball steady while running with it.
8. Boys Vs Girls
Youth lacrosse sticks can be used by either a girl or a boy between the age of 4 to 8. But the same can’t be said of teenagers. Teenage girls and boys need different types of lacrosse sticks that should suit their specific set of requirements.
9. Types of Lacrosse Sticks
Lacrosse sticks for midfielders tend to be a little shorter than a traditional defensive lacrosse stick but a little longer than an attacking lacrosse stick. In short, you need to hit the right sweet spot in the middle. It has to be lightweight as well.
Attacking lacrosse sticks tend to be short and lightweight. Since attacking players have to cover a lot of ground, it is no wonder that attacking lacrosse players prefer lightweight sticks that can be carried around and maneuver easily and effortlessly without getting tired in the process.
Zone defense and man to man defense are two main types of defenses in Lacrosse. The purpose of both of these defense techniques is to slow down the opponents and to take possession of the lacrosse ball. The main objective of a defensive lacrosse player is to neutralize the attacks of the opponent team and to get hold of the ball and therefore, it is no wonder that defensive players would need specialized Lacrosse sticks that are specifically designed for them.
Some of the main characteristics of a defensive lacrosse stick are – strong shaft and wider pocket. Wider pocket makes it easy for the defensive player to block the attacks of the opponent team.
Best Lacrosse Stick FAQ
Which type of lacrosse stick is ideal for me?
If you are a beginner, you don’t have to purchase different parts of a lacrosse stick separately. There is no point in that rather you should purchase a complete unit and be done with it. Most beginner’s lacrosse sticks are sold in the market as a complete unit but the same can’t be said of professional lacrosse sticks.
Professional lacrosse sticks are designed specifically to meet the needs of the players. For example, an attacker would need a lacrosse stick which is short and lightweight. Whereas a goalie would need a lacrosse stick with a wide head and long shaft. Men and women also need a different kind of lacrosse sticks. Traditionally, women’s lacrosse sticks tend to have leather shooters in the mesh whereas men’s lacrosse sticks usually have soft mesh.
What are the main parts of a lacrosse stick?
The handle i.e. the ‘stick’ which is attached to the head is termed as – shaft. The top section of a lacrosse stick that contains mesh pocket is considered as a ‘head’. So, basically, a lacrosse stick is made of two parts – shaft and head.
What is the Ideal Length of a lacrosse stick?
There is no such hard and fast rule when it comes to determining the length of a lacrosse stick. Traditionally, men’s lacrosse sticks are longer compared to women’s lacrosse sticks. The positions of the players also have an important role to play in this regard. Choose a lacrosse stick that you feel comfortable with and be done with it. It is that easy.
Best Lacrosse Sticks In 2021 [Buying Guide] – Gear Hungry

So whether you’re an absolute beginner or a star of Major League Lacrosse you need the right stick. Below are the best lacrosse sticks for 2019.

Maverik Lacrosse Charger Complete Lacrosse Stick
The Maverik Charger Complete Stick is another step up in performance and is ready to play right out of the box. It features a level 3 bottom rail for enhanced accuracy and power, a large catching surface, and narrow throat designed to enhance ball control while you’re on the move. The pocket is prestrung with competition-ready mesh which more advanced players may want to tweak to their own liking but which most will find more than satisfactory.
The “complete” in the name refers to the fact that this is a shaft/head combination. Not just a head or a shaft. The shaft is fashioned from 6000 series aluminum, making it very durable but also giving it plenty of flexibility. It’s 30 inches long, which means it’s made for attackers and midfielders. The whole stick with head checks in at just over 40 inches in length. The Maverik Charger also features what the company calls “Grip Zone” technology, which sounds a bit hinky but actually provides a good grip in pretty much any conditions.
This is one of the best complete sticks in this price range. Though one potential issue is the mesh, which has a tendency to absorb water. Which in turn can compromise performance. Some recommend replacing it straight away but a better course of action is probably to wait and see how you feel about it first. The shaft, while not the most flexible on the market, is agreeably durable and won’t be relegated to the recycle bin the first time you have a close encounter or fall awkwardly. Finally, while the 6000 is marketed as a universal stick it’s better suited to intermediate level players who have mastered the fundamentals and are working on refining their passing and shooting skills.

String King Complete Attack Lacrosse Stick
The String King Complete Attack Stick is game-ready right out of the box. It’s pre-strung at the factory with a semi-hard mesh pocket that promotes proper form while also allowing for aggressive attacking styles. The stick and head work well together. They’re light and perfectly balanced which means they’re not going to wear on you.
If you’re a newcomer you’ll appreciate the easy maneuverability of the stick. If you’re a more advanced user you’ll appreciate that it enables you to make quick precise throws and has a decent, but not overwhelming amount of whip in the shaft. The more familiar you get with the game and your own tendencies the more you’ll likely want to string it yourself. But for most intermediate users the factory pocket will be more than adequate.
The String King Complete Attack stick can be found at the upper end of the price range but there’s little doubt it’s as game ready as it is durable, versatile and handsome. So it more than justifies its cost. The build quality is first rate and it comes with roll of pre-cut lacrosse tape that will help you attain the optimal grip. Break in time is also minimal. CAKLOR Lacrosse Complete Attack/Midfield Stick
The Caklor Lacrosse Complete Attack/Midfield Stick is perfect for beginner players. It’s designed to make catching and ball control slightly easier, as they learn to play the sport. In spite of that, it still meets all NCAA and NFHS rules, so it’s suitable for competition-level play. To keep the stick lightweight, it has a 6000 series alloy handle. Known for its durability and weight-saving design, it’s easy to maneuver this stick and keep control of the ball. The head is molded with a slightly softer material, so it’s more forgiving when you catch the ball.
Lastly, the mesh has been professionally strung and has a wax coating. At first, this can seem a little stiff but you can soften it up by leaving it to soak in hot water and a cup of fabric softener for 20 minutes. This might not be the best performing lacrosse stick on the market but it’s perfect for beginners.

Lacrosse Stick Buying Guide
How We Chose Our Selection Of The Best Lacrosse Sticks
None of the standing members of our product review team are lacrosse players (sad, we know). Therefore, our own two cents was largely confined to the feel of the different sticks, their comfort and the overall build quality. In order to understand how the different sticks performed on the field or in the box we needed to obtain input from actual lacrosse players. We then took their valuable input, combined it with our experience of the materials and build quality and tossed in a dash of third party reviews to reach our final selections.
As lacrosse is something of a niche sport not as many sporting goods companies the offer lacrosse sticks as offer, say, basketballs or even baseball gloves. The market tends to be dominated by a few well-established manufacturers like STX. Although in recent years a few heavyweights like Nike and Under Armour have dipped their toes into the lacrosse stick market. As for price, lacrosse sticks tend to fall into a range between $20 and $100, with most somewhere in the middle of that range. So they’re not exactly luxury items and are reasonably accessible to just about anyone interested in the sport.
Features To Look For In Lacrosse Sticks
Buying a lacrosse stick involves weighing a number of different factors. Many advanced players will purchase the stick and the head separately and/or purchase multiple heads that they’ll swap out as they see fit. Beginners however, don’t need to think about such things and should simply concentrate on finding a complete stick that will suit their needs and allow them to acclimate themselves to sport. These are the most common features to be concerned with:
What position they’ll be playing – Most novices are not aware that lacrosse players don’t all use the same type of stick. The kind of stick you choose will in fact be heavily influenced by the position you’ll be playing. Midfielders and attackers use a lighter and shorter stick because it enables them to stay agile and doesn’t tire them out so quickly. As such the length of the shaft of the attacker’s stick will typically be about 30 inches. For defenders that may increase to 60”. This is so they are able to extend further to snag a shot. Finally, the shaft of the goalie’s stick is usually about 40 inches, give or take. They can get away with the shorter stick because the amount of area they have to cover is limited. The shorter shaft is also lighter which lets them retain a high degree of mobility and react quickly.
Shooting strings – Shooting strings run horizontally across the top of the stick’s head and are intended to ease the path for the ball as it is runs out of the pocket. Thing is, there are nearly as many opinions regarding the placement, number and material of shooting strings as there are lacrosse players. Shooting strings are said to affect the whip of the shot. “Whip” being the angle of the ball as it leaves the pocket. As a general rule the more whip a stick has the lower the ball trajectory. And attack players tend to prefer a low angle.
Weight – The weight of the stick is in large part determined by the length of the shaft. That’s one reason attackers and goalies use short lacrosse shafts. Because they don’t want the extra weight that comes with a longer shaft slowing them down. Some people train with a heavier shaft in order to build up the muscles they’re going to need in game situations and then go back to lighter sticks when the actual game starts. Certainly beginners, and in particular young beginners, are going to want to use lightweight sticks because their major concerns are going to be getting used to carrying and using the stick. Once they get comfortable they can try slightly heavier sticks if they want and see how it feels.
Pocket – Lacrosse sticks feature either a traditional lacrosse head with woven pocket or a mesh pocket. Woven pockets ruled the roost until recent years when the mesh pocket rose and pretty much took over the industry. Mesh pockets are composed of nylon webbing and tend to be very light and reasonably tough. Goalies often prefer mesh pockets because they lessen the chance of rebounds. The downside of mesh pockets is that they make it harder to control the ball while running with it. Woven pockets on the other hand tend to offer greater ball control while on the move. The depth of the pocket is also important with attackers typically opting for shallower pockets which facilitate long crisp passes and a lacrosse defense stick having a deeper pocket that doesn’t spill the ball so easily.
Head – As a general rule the stiffer the head of the lacrosse stick the more effective it will be when used for checking maneuvers. There are 3 basic types of lacrosse stick heads:
- Universal – This head can be used by all players at all levels.
- NFHS – These head are approved for use by youth lacrosse players and those in high school.
- NCAA – This type of head is must have kit for those who would hope to play college lacrosse.
Keep in mind too that goalie heads are typically much larger than standard lacrosse stick heads, often measuring 10 inches or more across.
Material – The shaft on the best lacrosse sticks may be fashioned from any of a number of different materials.
- Aluminum – Beginners often choose lacrosse sticks whose shafts are made of aluminum or aluminum alloy simply because it’s relatively light and very durable. So they know they’ll get their money’s worth.
- Carbon fiber – Carbon fiber lacrosse shafts are very tough and very durable. They’re also at the upper end of the price spectrum and not recommended unless you are committed to playing lacrosse at a high level. Carbon fiber makes outstanding sticks for both defenders and attackers.
- Titanium – Titanium is another material that is both extremely light and extremely tough. It’s stronger than aluminum and quite a bit more expensive, but it makes for the lightest lacrosse shaft.
- Scandium alloy – Scandium alloy is as light as aluminum, as hard as ceramic and as strong as titanium. Scandium is typically used in the aerospace industry but is also used to fashion components for race cars and lacrosse sticks. Expect to pay.

90,000 He laid three of them in a few seconds, the fourth smashed his head. How Russian hockey player Artyukhin dealt with the Czechs at the World Cup – May 25, 2021
Sport24 continues the cycle of materials with the most striking and scandalous moments with the participation of the Russian national team at the world championships. This time, the focus is on Evgeny Artyukhin’s tough play against the Czechs at the 2011 World Cup.
From 2007 to 2010, the Russian national team has invariably been among the medalists of the world championship and twice became the champion. But the tradition, so pleasant for the fans and the leadership of the national team, was interrupted by a tournament in Slovakia, in which Bykov’s team remained outside the top three.
In general, there is nothing special to say about the game of our team at that tournament: the fourth place in the group, a nondescript departure in the semifinals from the Finns and a humiliating loss to the Czechs in the match for the third place. But our guys have shown that if they fail to attract attention with their results, they will still find a reason to be in the center of events. This time, Evgeny Artyukhin acted as a magnet for attention, having arranged a real beating of the Czech national team in the match of the qualifying stage, in which the Russian national team ultimately lost.
Vladimir Bezzubov, photo.khl.ru
By the way, the coaching staff of our national team at that tournament was criticized for a variety of reasons, one of which was the invitation to the team of an overall striker. But the head coach of the Russian team had something to say to this.
“Artyukhin’s play is commendable in that he, acting within the framework of the rules, brings confusion into the ranks of the enemy. It really boosts the morale of our team. Any person whom we invite to the national team should be used as useful as possible. When we feel that we need to create a psychological or physical impact on an opponent, we use his best qualities. When playing on the majority, in order to interfere with the goalkeeper, his services are in demand, also when playing in the minority, he is useful. Many specialists in Russia, pseudo-specialists, as I call them, treat Evgeny as a second-rate tough guy who cannot play.In fact, he is a very interesting hockey player, technically equipped and very disciplined. You just need to find an approach to it and use it correctly in team actions ”, – explained Vyacheslav Bykov.
And it was in that meeting against the Czech national team that Artyukhin showed that he was definitely not taken in vain. In one of the shifts in the middle of the second period, Eugene imagined himself to be a bowling ball, and alternately scattered three Czechs who skillfully played the role of pins: he put the first one near someone else’s blue line, the second was not lucky to get hit by a Russian train right at the side, but the third was Milan Michalek, of the three, was the most affected.
At the same time, several Czech hockey players alternately approached Eugene during his entire time on the ice, expressing serious indignation at the actions of the Russian giant. Artyukhin even offered one of them to throw off his gloves and find out the truth in a fair fight, but none of the rivals wanted to end his sports career so early, so they invariably rejected our forward’s offer.
But if you think that Eugene stopped at this, then you are mistaken. His next hit was the toughest. This time, Karl Rachunek was the victim, whose helmet fell off during the fall. The Czech defender hit the top of his head on the ice and got a head injury, filling all the space around him with blood.
Interestingly, Artyukhin’s actions had a beneficial effect on the game of the Russian national team: after Mikhalek’s hit, our team managed to break the score with Tereshchenko’s puck, and the hit on Ranukhek gave our hockey players a powerful impetus, which made it possible to throw the second puck and decide on the final assault …
“My head still aches. I drank some pills, so it’s not all bad. I wanted to continue playing after that collision, but I felt bad, so I went to the locker room. There were neck problems. I met Artyukhin on the ice two or three times in a match. Before that, he shot down Rakhunek and Gavlat. I told him that he didn’t play hockey for the whole match, but was engaged in nonsense. In my opinion, such a hockey player had nothing to do in this match. Artyukhin wanted to use a forceful technique, but overdid it, because he could get disqualified. If I had the puck, I would be ready to attack, but he crashed into me when I relaxed a little, so there were problems with my neck. I had no idea that he was coming to me, because I did not have a puck. If I knew, nothing terrible would have happened. Everyone saw what Artyukhin did on Sunday, how he acted at the Czech Games. He is not interested in playing, he goes out on the ice to injure someone, ” – said Milan Mikhalek, injured by the actions of the Russian grenadier.
Vladimir Bezzubov, photo.khl.ru
And the legendary Jaromir Jagr did not begin to assess the actions of the Russian striker so critically.
“Artyukhin is big. Great talent, great hockey player, great master of power techniques. Which inevitably comes for you (laughs). It was hard for us to play against him, to withstand the blows of such a hero to the body. But I hardly blame this striker. He’s not rude. It’s just big. I will not comment on Artyukhin’s reception against Rakhunek, because I see no reason to talk about him.But I didn’t like the shot on Mikhalek, because it was an attack by a player who didn’t own the puck. Of course, if we meet with the Russians at the tournament again, I would prefer that Artyukhin tried not to beat ours, but to come up with something clever with the puck, “ – said Jagr.

“On the eve of the championship, the IIHF management constantly held seminars and never tired of repeating: deliberate blows to the head will be punished in the most severe way. But the 49th number of Russians beat our guys with impunity.Although he deserved very strict sanctions from the arbitrators. If the participants of the world championships follow this path, then we will wait for the players who do not know how to play hockey to remain in the rosters. But they know how to fight. In any case, now I will seriously think about inviting tough guys. Czech Republic suffered too much from blows to the head. In the first match on the Bratislava ice, defender Martinek was injured. Now, alas, they did the same with Rachunek, ” – said the head coach of the Czech national team Alois Gadamchik.
The coach of the Russian national team, in turn, defended his hockey player.
“Artyukhin is great. After those episodes that caused the indignation of the Czech national team, the referee drove up to our bench and said: “Your hockey player was correct, but warn me not to beat opponents too much.” Eugene’s game had a lot of emotions, but it did not go beyond fair play, ” – said Vyacheslav Bykov.

Later, in an interview with Russian journalists, Bykov discussed Artyukhin’s game in more detail.
“It’s not my style to start clowning at a press conference. I could ask why he (the head coach of the Czech national team – Sport24) climbs up to our player during the break. Was the tough game with the Czechs our setting? This is always our attitude. Play tough, but not rough. There are no complaints about Artyukhin. He was not rude, did not fight. It operates within the framework of the rules. And the Czechs are still actors. Have you seen how long Mikhalek was bent after the collision with Zhenya? And how did Jagr show in the final of last year’s World Championship that he was in mortal pain? And remember how quickly they returned to the site later, ” – said Bykov.
And Artyukhin himself, who was refused by the Czechs in the post-match handshake, thus expressing disagreement with his actions, did not understand such an act on the part of the opponent.
“Oh, them, I don’t want to comment on it. Both the coach and the whole team of the Czechs are whiners. They behave very badly, but it’s all from the coach. I hardly watch my fights – it’s even uncomfortable for me to talk about this topic. I certainly don’t savor it. Maybe tough guys fight in the evening and watch in the morning – but I’m not a tough guy.Don’t call me that, please. And for me, even a fight is a common game moment. I am an ordinary strength player who is great at fighting back. In fact, I am a very kind person, ” – said Artyukhin when asked if he was reviewing his fights.
In Slovakia, Artyukhin loudly slammed the door: that world championship was his last serious tournament in the form of the national team. Valery Bragin’s team at the upcoming World Cup would not hurt a player of such a plan: in a match of equal teams, such a hockey player could play a decisive role, psychologically destabilizing his opponents. And whether we will regret the absence of Artyukhin’s followers in the national team, we will find out very soon.

HC Avangard | News | Spartak’s first victory, Shumakov’s next lacrosse goal. Day overview
All matches on September 7 began with a minute of silence in memory of the lost Lokomotiv team. “Spartak” interrupted a series of failures with Moscow “Dynamo” in the regular championships, “Salavat Yulaev” achieved the third victory in a row, and “Avangard” scored eight goals against “Amur”.
Spartak interrupted a series of regular-season defeats against Dynamo Moscow
Dynamo played the second match in the league and the first at the home arena in Petrovsky Park. Spartak completed a three-game away streak. What united the teams before the first derby of the season is that neither the red-white nor the blue-white have won. Spartak was beaten in Yaroslavl (2: 7), then lost in Yekaterinburg (0: 1), Dynamo could not turn the tide of the match against Avangard (1: 2). After the game in the Urals, the head coach of Spartak Oleg Znarok noted the progress of his players in comparison with the match in Yaroslavl. And for the first derby of the season, the coaching staff produced practically the same squad as against Avtomobilist, with the only change: the first game in the new championship was played by an experienced defender Andrey Kuteikin. All five field legionnaires of Spartak came out again, goalkeeper Julius Gudacek was left out of the application.
Dynamo had more changes, but none of them affected the leading links. In third place Ilya Kruglov was taken by Vladislav Efremov, in the fourth place instead of Oleg Zaitsev and Artem Volkov came Yegor Bryzgalov (first appeared in the application for a KHL match) and Sergei Boykov.
Dynamo and Spartak were the last teams to play in the previous championship ended ahead of schedule. And if in that very series of playoffs “Spartak” managed to beat the opponent twice, then in the regular championships the affairs of the red-and-white in the derby did not develop very well lately – six matches remained for Dynamo.
In the third minute, Ivan Muranov broke the rules, and soon Vyacheslav Kulemin followed him, giving the guests almost 30 seconds of a double majority.During this time, the Spartak team did not deliver any serious troubles to the owners; the only thing that was remembered was Kuteikin’s throw, and even he hit right at Ivan Bocharov.
A more realistic opportunity for a goal was presented by Andrey Sergeev’s shot at the eighth minute – this time Nikita Bespalov was on the alert – and for quite a long time this was the most dangerous episode of the meeting. Another serious danger to the Spartak goal was created in the middle of the second period by Ilya Shipov – but it also remained unfulfilled. And after that, the score was finally opened – Efremov distinguished himself, cold-bloodedly shooting an empty corner of the goal, formed due to the collision of Bespalov with Yakov Rylov.
At the beginning of the third segment, a short-term, but fierce fight broke out between Sergei Boykov and Nikita Sokolov, as a result of which the Spartak team remained in the minority – since Martin Bakosh broke the rules a little earlier. The owners disposed of the majority casually. Vadim Shipachev did not play in his zone in the best way, which Anatoly Nikontsev took advantage of – either taking the puck from the Dynamo captain, or intercepting his pass.Nikontsev bounced back on Mikhail Yunkov, who threw him to the center – and Dmitry Vishnevsky equalized the score. This goal breathed new strength into the red and white. They defended the minority without any problems, and then, having received the majority, they implemented it; distinguished by Yori Lehtera.
Dynamo did not really succeed in the final bulk. There was a removal of the goalkeeper, there was an attempt to push, but it ended with a goal into an empty net. “Spartak” won the first victory in the current championship and at the same time interrupted the streak of defeats from the sworn rival in the regular season.
The first puck of Abdul brought victory to Severstal
“Severstal” and “Siberia” met after defeats, Novosibirsk in two starting matches could not score a single point, each time losing one goal, and had real chances to return from the trip with zero in the table.
The guests started the game more actively, but at the wrong time, Siberia’s defender Ilya Khokhlov sat on the penalty box, and Severstal opened the scoring. A good teamwork was shown by the special link, assembled from the third and fourth triples.Egor Morozov and Alexander Petunin spun a whirlwind at the gate of Harry Syateri with transfers, and Vladislav Kodola found an empty corner with a throw, securing the status of the team’s top scorer.
The score lasted quite a long time, the teams continued their power hockey. The Siberians also scored the return puck in the majority, it happened in the middle of the second period – Jyrki Jokipakka got a shot from an average distance. In the second 20-minute, the Siberians threw the Cherepovites almost three times, but could not build on their success.
In the first minute of the third period, a rookie legionnaire finally scored. Czech striker Indrich Abdul was the first to finish off after a powerful throw from his partner, and scored the first goal in the KHL. I played a bunch with Adam Lishka, which Severstal has been playing for a long time. In the middle of the period, Severstal goalkeeper Vladislav Podyapolsky received a penalty for the bandwagon, and he saved the team in the minority several times.
Double of Granlund, Salavat’s third success in a row
Dinamo Minsk played its second home match of the season against Salavat Yulaev Ufa, which it has not been able to beat for almost six full years on home ice. After the first two matches of the season, both clubs had two victories each, at least one of the Minskers happened due to a technical defeat of the opponent.
The game for the “bison” started better than ever – in the 7th minute Aleksey Protas threw in the majority, and then Shane Prince doubled the advantage of his team in the counterattack. But before the break, the Ufa team were able to recoup. Markus Granlund and Petr Khokhryakov made the score 2: 2. In the middle of the match, Granlund scored a brace after an excellent pass to Temu Hartikainen, and then Mikhail Vorobiev scored the fourth goal from the Ufa team.
In the third period, the young striker of Minsk Ilya Usov received his first penalty of the season until the end of the match for hitting his head. “Zubrs” held out during this majority, and then used their chance to realize the excess, Artem Demkov made the score 3: 4. In the remaining minutes, the Minskers tried to recoup, but could not again hit the gate of Juhi Metsola. Dynamo suffered their first defeat of the season, while the Ufa team achieved their third victory in a row.
Another masterpiece of Shumakov
Avangard finished the first home streak of the new season with a match against Khabarovsk Amur, which lost twice before arriving in Balashikha, but in an equal fight.Victories are difficult for Bob Hartley’s team, but the team shows they know how to achieve them. In this game, a large group of leaders returned to Amur’s roster.
The first period passed with the home team’s advantage, but at the same time, “Amur” was aimed at the goal as well as the “hawks”. For the third goal in a row by Reed Boucher, the guests responded with Vladislav Ushenin’s first puck of the season. The second period started with the successful finishing off of Pavel Dedunov, and then Avangard scored four more times within four minutes. The hosts scored goals for every taste, and Sergei Shumakov scored again in the lacrosse style!
To the credit of Amur, Pavel Torgaev’s team did not give up and before the second break Alexander Gorshkov played one goal. In the third period, the hosts did not slow down – the first goal for Avangard was scored by the Czech legionnaire Jiri Sekach. The final score was set by Ville Pokka, who scored the eighth goal in this match.
CSKA’s first home win over Barys since 2017
“Barys” played for the third away match, in the two previous ones the Kazakhstani club invariably scored points. With the same indicator, the army team approached the face-to-face meeting. Igor Nikitin is gradually determined with the combinations that he will play in the regular season. Compared to the victorious match against Sochi, the changes affected only the fourth link. Alexander Popov appeared in it again, and Brendan Lipsik kept him company.
The debut remained entirely with CSKA. First, the ice owners caught the rival on a shift change, and Maksim Mamin and Konstantin Okulov beautifully plotted the 2v1 exit. Two and a half minutes later, Laipsik scored the first point in the KHL, the forward assisted Andrei Svetlakov. In the first period, Barys had three opportunities to convert the majority at once, but in six minutes in the 5v4 format, the guests made only two shots. However, before the break, “Barys” still managed to excel: after the fifth field at CSKA, Nikita Mikhailis asked for Alexander Sharychenkov.
After the break, the army team increased the pressure, which was facilitated by the removal of Barys. At the end of the second period, CSKA got almost a minute and a half to play in the 5v3 format. The first special brigade of the majority took advantage of this perfectly: Nikolai Goldobin threw the puck on the oncoming Slepyshev, and Anton again brought CSKA’s advantage to two goals. In the third period, the army team calmly played on the result, and achieved the long-awaited home victory over Barys. CSKA lost two previous matches with the Kazakh team.

How to glue a lacrosse shaft 2021
Like hockey sticks and baseball bats, it can be difficult to grab lacrosse when playing the game. This is largely due to the thin, smooth shaft where the lacrosse sticks are held in both hands of the player. Many lacrosse players use tape to make the stick easier to handle and control, as many game skills involve handling the lacrosse ball properly with a lacrosse stick. This tape can also extinguish the impact of the lacrosse stick on the player’s body, depending on how thick the tape is wrapped.
Video of the Day
Clean the paint stick shaft. Dust, dirt, and other deposits will weaken the tape’s grip on the stick. If you are using a damp cloth, make sure the stick is dry before starting the sticker.
Unfold a few inches of tape, but do not remove it from the roll.Place your tape to wrap around the base of the stick – the end opposite the head where the ball is held. Do a full loop around the base, then continue in a tight spiral 8-12 inches up the shaft, making sure to completely cover the shaft at that distance. How far you go is a matter of personal preference and usually depends on where you hold the stick. Once this is done, tear off the tape and flatten it onto the shaft.
Tear off 2 to 3-inch tape and place it over the end cap of the stick, attaching the tape to the rigid spiral of tape you just laid down. This will hold the end cap in place.
Starting from the moment the head meets the shaft, thread the tight spiral down to the middle of the shaft. Walk in the same way as your first tape, from the back from the base, and then rip the tape off the roll and place it on the shaft.
Pour the remaining center of the shaft. You can do this in several different ways, depending on your personal preference. Many lacrosse players wrap this part of the stick twice to make it thicker. This difference in thickness helps them know where their hands are on the stick without constantly looking at them. It also helps provide them with a more secure grip when passing or firing. Wrap a tight spiral of tape across the remaining open area of the shaft and back twice to form two layers, or select criss-cross. With this template, you will make very wide sweeping spirals that will leave some of the surface open and then double back as you came by by wrapping the second layer of spirals against the first layer to create a lattice wrap. This type of tape is also rougher for those who prefer it.
Things You Will Need
- Athletic Belt
- Feel free to play around with different types of ribbon designs and find out what works for you. Many professional lacrosse players have very specific customized ribbons that appeal to their own feel and playing style. There is no right or wrong way to stick your lacrosse stick if it suits you and think it benefits your game.
