State System of Higher Education Votes to Freeze Tuition
West Chester University will hold next year’s tuition to the 2019-2020 rate, consistent with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors’ decision to freeze basic in-state tuition for a second consecutive year. This marks the first time in its 38-year history the system froze tuition in two consecutive years.
Basic in-state tuition for undergraduate students at WCU and the system’s 13 other universities will remain at $7,716 for the 2020-21 academic year. Also remaining the same will be the system’s technology fee for students, which stands at $478 for the academic year. The Board voted unanimously to freeze tuition and the technology fee.
“We are united in believing that even under these historic, extraordinary circumstances, the State System must maintain its affordability and not pass the burden of these times onto our students,” said Cindy Shapira, chair of the Board of Governors. “While the coronavirus has impacted so much of our society and economy, what remains the same is our mission to provide quality, affordable, accessible public higher education.”
Prior to last year, only once – the 1998-99 academic year – did the Board approvea year-to-year tuition freeze. It has never before frozen tuition for consecutiveyears. The decision was made even while confronting financial challenges brought on in part by the coronavirus pandemic.
“Pennsylvania will recover from this pandemic, and our outstanding universities will have a role in leading the recovery,” Chancellor Dan Greenstein said. “To be a leader will take courage, and the Board showed that kind of courage today by choosing to be on the side of students and affordability. We will be here to educate the business, healthcare, education, and community leaders of tomorrow by maintaining our place as the affordable higher education option for students of the Commonwealth.”

State University of New York ( SUNY U ni / SOO -nee ) is a system of public colleges and universities in the state of New York. It is the largest integrated system of universities, colleges and community colleges in the United States, enrolling 424,051 students, plus 2,195,082 adult students, on 64 campuses across the state. Led by Chancellor Jim Malatras, SUNY employs 91,182 staff, including 32,496 faculty members, and about 7,660 degree and certificate programs overall, with a budget of $ 10.7 billion.

History
New York is one of the last states to establish a system of public colleges and universities. The first colleges were privately opened, some of which were affiliated with local seminaries. But New York State had a long history of supported higher education prior to the establishment of the SUNY system. The oldest college in the SUNY system is SUNY Potsdam, founded in 1816 as the Academy of St. Lawrence. In 1835, the state legislature took steps to create stricter teacher training programs for public schools and appointed one academy in each senatorial district to raise money for a special teacher training department. The St. Lawrence Academy received this award and in 1867 designated the village of Potsdam as the site of the School of Education.
On May 7, 1844, the state legislature voted to establish the New York State School of Education at Albany as the first college for teacher education. In 1865, the privately-owned Cornell University was designated the land grant college of New York, and in 1894 it began direct financial support to four Cornell colleges.From 1889 to 1903, Cornell ran the New York State Forestry College until the governor vetoed it. his annual deduction. The school was transferred to Syracuse University in 1911. It is now New York State University’s College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry. In 1908, the state legislature opened the New York State Agricultural College at Alfred University.

Rivalry
The most notable rivalry within SUNY occurs between the Albany Great Danes and Binghamton’s Bears.These two belong to the Conference of the American East. Often called I-88 Rivalry , Binghamton and Albany are at both ends of Interstate 88 (approximately 2.5 hours apart). Both teams are known to have the highest attendance at sporting events of any school. Both schools also have a less intense rivalry with another America East member, the Stony Brook Seabed. In football, a sport not sponsored by East America, Albany and Stony Brook vie for the Colonial Sports Association.
The University of Buffalo tends to compete in basketball with two private colleges in the same geographic area. Canicius College and Buffalo South Campus are within 4 km of each other on Buffalo’s Main Street. Their other rival is Niagara University in Lewiston, New York.
SUNY Oswego and SUNY Plattsburgh also share a notable rivalry in the Hockey Division III: this game is almost always played for the title in the SUNYAC regular season.
SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi’s rivalry focuses on basketball, cross-country and pre-existing athletics, although Cobleskill athletics began competing at the NCAA Division III level in the spring of 2009. The 2003-2004 SUNY Delhi basketball season was canceled following the announcement of a basketball match. 48 seconds left after several SUNY Delhi basketball players nearly got into a fight at Ioro Gym in SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday 4 February 2004.
SUNY Oneonta has developed to compete with SUNY Cortland in almost all sports.They have a common team name – the red dragon, and their matches are known as the “Battle of the red dragons”.
There is an unusual sporting rivalry between SUNY College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry and Finger Lakes Community College, with both campuses sponsoring national teams in lumberjack competitions.

General Surgery Residency Program
Welcome to the General Surgery Residency program at the University of Nassau Medical Center in East Meadow, New York.We are part of NuHealth, which includes NUMC, a 530-bed tertiary education facility, A. Holly Patterson Advanced Care Center and six community family health centers. The institution has more than 20 residency and scholarship programs, in which more than 300 residents and fellows study. Our program includes 24 active clinical residents and one researcher. We recruit three categorical residents and nine provisional residents per year. In addition, we work with several resident rotators from other institutions and other NUMC departments, and we also hire several Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as part of our team.
Our program provides a robust clinical and operational experience across the various disciplines that make up general surgery. This includes general surgery, colorectal surgery, endoscopy, vascular and endovascular, minimally invasive surgery, bariatrics, breast, chest, trauma, and emergency care. We are a bariatric center of excellence. We are also the American College of Surgeons, an accredited level 1 trauma center. We care for some of the most severely traumatized patients in Nassau County in our 11-bed Surgical and Trauma Intensive Care Unit and our six-bed Post-Acute Surgery Unit, both of which are privately run by our board-certified Trauma / Intensive Care Faculty…. In addition, we provide off-site rotation in cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, transplantation and surgical oncology. We also provide NUMC rotation in the fields of urology, plastic surgery, anesthesia, vascular and neurosurgery. Our residents also spend 25% of their time at our integrated facility at Long Island Jew / Forest Hills Hospital (LIJ-FH) where they gain significant technical expertise. Our top residents are issued from approximately 950 to 1,050 cases.
Our teachers are certified in all of the above disciplines of general surgery and provide our residents with a wide range of patient care services. All of our full-time faculty members are actively involved in our active academic program. Our program consists of a monthly journal club, weekly tumor council, trauma / intensive care conference and mock oral exams, weekly morbidity and mortality conference, grand rounds, basic science lecturers, textbook reviews, and Q&A sessions.All our residents are provided with a SCORE and TrueLearn subscription. Our mid-level residents attend ATOM or ASSET courses. Our top residents receive SESAP and are also enrolled for free on board audit courses.
In addition, we provide our residents with practical skills and instructions for simulation. Our Skills Lab includes the Simbionix (3D) Lap Mentor Trainer and the GI Mentor Trainer to keep our residents well prepared for the FLS and FES exams. We also offer Ethicon video box sneakers and white box sneakers.For our new interns, we offer an intensive multi-session boot camp that includes FAST exam preparation, MTP instructions, suture and knotting sessions, VAC instructions, TLC / CT insertion, scrub / robe / gloves sessions, vessel orientation / angio, ventilator briefing, SICU / SPA / orientation in the trauma room, instructions on the simulator and simulated nurse call / instructions on the exit procedure. Finally, we offer one year of fully funded research in emergency surgery.This year is offered after the PGY-2 year. All residents who participate in the research year achieve the goal of several publications, and some of them spoke at national meetings. Whether a resident is pursuing a research year or not, all residents must participate in research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
We recognize that the pressure of residency training today is different from the pressure of residency training in the past. Compression stress at work requiring you to do more in less time, the exorbitant burden of the current burdensome stress associated with electronic health records, the need to find time to practice on the
simulator
All stress contributes to a new level of anxiety for residents.With this in mind, we have recently developed the Resident Wellness Program. Every quarter, we provide residents with half a day of wellness that they can use for things like seeing a doctor, or indeed, for any reason, no questions asked. We conduct therapy sessions for dogs several times a year. We offer periodic Tai Chi classes (no, you don’t have to practice Tai Chi if it bothers you!) And meditation / mindfulness sessions. We also have an annual retreat with all residents where they have a day of fun, socializing, while teachers and mid-level staff cover the needs of the patients.Some of our retreat sessions include beach days, fishing, sports center nerf wars / basketball games / obstacle courses, etc. All residents enjoy their privacy! Message from the Program Director:
Welcome to the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Nassau Medical Center! We are pleased to provide you with information on our permanent residency program. The General Surgery Training Program has been accredited by the ACGME since March 1, 1969. We have been training surgeons for over 50 years! Our department is made up of a diverse group of dedicated full-time faculty members who hold board certifications in several specialties.We are committed to educating and educating our residents, including expanding their pool of surgical knowledge, honing their technical skills, and assisting them with challenging surgical research and publications.
The residency program consists of Shift General Surgery, SICU and Emergency Surgery at NUMC and at our subsidiary, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Forest Hills. In addition, rotations in pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, transplantation and cardiothoracic surgery are offered at other local hospitals.These majors are scattered across the years PGY-2, PGY-3 and PGY-4. Other rotations at home include anesthesia, urology, vascular surgery, and plastic surgery. The culmination of the training is the completion of the PGY-5 chief’s year of training. Residents receive gradually hard-earned autonomy over five years. They are involved in well-controlled surgical procedures, surgical consultations, and decision-making processes from the very beginning of their training. Residents are strongly encouraged to monitor their patients for an extended period of time through our clinic system from the preoperative period to the operative period and throughout the entire postoperative care period.Demonstrating continuity of care is a sign of belonging to your patients and is important in an era of limited working hours. This focus on professionalism is highlighted in our program.
Residents have the opportunity to participate in a fully funded research year sponsored by our Emergency Department. This outstanding opportunity gives residents the opportunity to explore their own areas of interest in research while remaining in a full-salary home institution.All residents who participate in the research year end the year with several publications and often presentations at national meetings.
Our goal is to educate and educate a diverse group of resident surgeons through state-of-the-art educational programs sponsored by major surgical governing bodies, while maintaining a supportive environment that recognizes the humanistic well-being needs of trainees. Program description
NuHealth’s five-year general surgery residency program meets the training requirements for American Board of Surgery certification.This gives many years of experience and increases responsibility for both the performance of surgical procedures and the preoperative and postoperative management of surgical patients.
The
Department offers three categorical and nine preliminary surgical positions PGY-1 in a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare candidates for further training in general surgery or a related specialty.
The department has seven full-time surgeons headed by a chairman and vice-chairman.The rest of the staff includes geographic full, part-time and voluntary attendance, all of which are certified or eligible to serve on the council. In addition to general surgery, the department includes active specialized services in the field of trauma surgery, surgical resuscitation, surgical endoscopy, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, urology, breast surgery, pediatric surgery, head and neck surgery, and manual and plastic surgery.Services are carried out by full-time training, certified in the relevant specialties. All departments and departments of the specialty are run by separate polyclinics.
The permanent teaching staff is selected to provide a positive orientation towards the teaching goals of the department. Residents work under close supervision with all types of clinical material to ensure the progressive development of surgical maturity, and are assigned full supervised patient care responsibilities commensurate with the skills and experience of the individual resident.What’s more, because the University of Nassau Medical Center is a Level I trauma center in New York City’s Emergency Medicine system, patients gain extensive experience in treating serious injuries to complete their training and meet certification requirements in general and specialty surgery.
Curriculum Overview
FIRST POST-GRADUATE YEAR
During the first year of the program, interns maintain a strict conversation schedule every fourth night.They spend roughly three units for the General Surgery Service (GS), four units for the Emergency Surgery Service (ACS), three units in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), and one unit each, each rotating plastic surgery and urology. Each rotation lasts 4 weeks, and there are 13 4-week blocks per year. Residents receive one four-week vacation block that can be divided throughout the year. The General Surgery Service includes all elective cases in GS and narrow areas except vascular.The Emergency Surgery Service includes all trauma surgeries, emergency medical services, and specialized cases. In the intensive care unit, the resident is responsible for the formulation and implementation of a treatment plan, including instruction in the leadership and technical skills of intensive care under the direction of a senior surgical resident and under level supervision.
Freshmen are responsible for treating all private and serving patients under the supervision of full-time or part-time faculty members.Training sessions and bedside conferences are specially organized for first-year residents and student clerks alternating through service. Clinic staff are also involved in supervised outpatient management, including discovery, treatment plans and follow-up care after discharge. During this time, the trainees will also receive modeling instructions directly from the maintenance staff. Over a two-year cycle, the formal didactic education program covers the entire field of surgical knowledge.
SECOND POST-GRADUATE YEAR
During the second year, residents switch to the highest-level dialing mode, which is approximately every 3.5 days, or eight calls for a four-week block instead of seven. They spend one block from NYU Medical Center for graft rotation. They also spend one unit rotating specialties at NUMC, including gynecology, anesthesiology, or orthopedic surgery. All rotations provide a deeper understanding of the principles and methodology of the respective disciplines.
Resident PGY-2 conducts two blocks at SICU, but this time in the role of supervising trainees. This is an excellent opportunity for a resident to demonstrate leadership, organizational and academic ability. Three additional units are consumed in our integrated branch LIJ-FH, which offers a full range of general, thoracic, vascular and specialty surgery. Residents do not take calls to LIJ-FH, but they are required to call every weekend. There are also two blocks dedicated to vascular surgery, working directly with the vascular team in the vascular laboratory, endovascular department and in the operating room.In GS, two chunks are rotated, and in ACS, one chunk per NUMC. The responsibilities of a PGY-2 resident increase significantly as you transition to the role of a resident consultant. This is an extremely important time to develop prioritization, communication and organizational skills, as well as the extremely important trust between residents and visitors.
THIRD POST-GRADUATE YEAR
PGY-3 residents spend two blocks from the site. They move to Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center for a pediatric surgery change, and North Shore University Hospital for a cardiothoracic surgery change.They spend one more block on the service of vascular surgery, honing the previously acquired skills. They move to SICU for one block, again in the role of an observer, not taking calls, but observing the trainees and the PGY-2 resident. They spend three more quarters at LIJ-FH. Remaining blocks
is split between GS and ACS at NUMC. Over the course of the PGY-3 year, patients will begin self-healing injuries and take on increased responsibility for direct patient care, commensurate with demonstrated ability and experience.Residents also achieve a higher level of participation in OR operations and begin to supervise junior OR residents under the guidance of faculty members.
Fourth graduation year
Clinical Surgery is intensified in the last two years of study. Residents are split into three more blocks at LIJ-FH, with a significant increase in operating room responsibilities. They spend three additional blocks on ACS servicing, honing their clinical skills and diagnostic abilities in the most severe and severely traumatized patients.They also transfer to Memorial Sloan Kettering for Surgical Oncology in the Pancreatic / Hepatobiliary Service. In the five blocks of the GS service, patients at this level are responsible for monitoring preoperative examinations and preparing patients for surgery. Guided by experienced visitors, there is an opportunity to make independent judgment and acquire the skills necessary to work as a Principal Resident. As part of their teaching responsibilities, Senior Residents are actively involved in educational programs for third-year medical students and PA students who serve as clerks in the Department.PGY-4 residents act as prime residents whenever a supervisor is unavailable, including all days after the call.
FIFTH POST-GRADUATE YEAR
The Chief Resident spends four blocks each for GS, ACS and LIJ-FH services. The supervisor is responsible for all patients in his or her services and, on the advice of the faculty, independently decides on treatment plans and operates on all patients or assigns less complex problems to junior residents for surgery.Senior residents are responsible and supervise the care of all patients in their respective services, and they conduct weekly outpatient clinics of their service where post-operative patients are observed and pre-operative patients are processed and scheduled for surgery. During this last year, which is entirely dedicated to clinical surgery, residents perform basic procedures on the abdomen, vessels, head and neck, chest and pediatrics. They are responsible for conducting bedside rounds and supervising junior residents in the operating room, responding to requests for advice from other services, and guiding and participating in the training program for medical students.
RESEARCH YEAR
We are offering a research site sponsored by the Department of Emergency Surgery. This position is fully funded from a PGY-2 salary. This allows the resident to work exclusively on research while remaining safe in the home institution. Most of the projects relate to emergency surgery, trauma surgery, and intensive surgery. However, residents are encouraged to pursue other interests with our other faculty members.The position is filled with one categorical resident per year between years PGY-2 and PGY-3 and is highly competitive. Our residents have published extensively their work produced during this year, and some have been presented at national gatherings, including the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, the Eastern Association for Trauma Surgery, and the Southwest Trauma and Acute Care Symposium.
Skills & Simulation Lab:
The department has a skills and simulation lab, available to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.The laboratory includes a modern laparoscopic simulator 3D Simbionix Lap Mentor and an endoscopic simulator 3D Simbionix GI Mentor. Both simulators are equipped with all the modules you need to improve your skills before passing the Laparoscopic Surgery Fundamentals and Endoscopic Surgery Fundamentals exams. In addition, the laboratory has white-box simulators and laparoscopic training systems with an Ethicon video monitor. There is also a suture and knot training area where patients can practice basic and more advanced suture techniques.The laboratory is equipped with several Ethicon suture / knot trays and several suture / knot kits that patients can practice on different materials using different sutures.
HEALTH PROGRAM
Well-being is emphasized at NUMC. We are taking several steps to keep our residents happy and healthy, both physically and emotionally. Every quarter we offer our residents “health days” so that they can solve their personal problems without any questions.Often these days are used for appointments with a doctor or dentist, for home improvement projects, car repairs, or even just a personal family vacation. The reason for requesting a wellness day is never given. We also run dog therapy sessions several times a year. Dogs have an amazing ability to calm and reduce anxiety. Engaging therapy dogs allows residents to rest, relax and escape from the daily stress of living. We also offer periodic Tai Chi classes in which residents can take part.Finally, every year we offer resident retreats that include educational / wellness activities followed by a day of fun! Some of our previous retreats have focused on positive psychology, resilience in residency and mindfulness, where they were taught meditation techniques they can do at work to reduce anxiety. The fun part of the day includes beach volleyball, fishing, water parks and zip / zip climbing. The residents have the opportunity to spend time together outside the hospital.It is a great bonding experience and fosters lifelong friendships.
Surgical Residency Program Interview Criteria:
Applications for one of our three categorical positions are required by November 1st st each academic year and must be made through ERAS. We offer three categorical interviews per season: November, December and January. Each interview is preceded by a welcome reception the night before. Details are provided upon acceptance of the interview offer.

Before naming the top three most expensive universities in the world, I would like to remind you that there are always equally attractive and much cheaper alternatives to .Each state has its own policy regarding higher education: some countries keep the cost of education for their own citizens close to zero, and earn on foreign students. Other countries are taking a more democratic approach and keeping the cost of education equal for all. There are also universities that charge lower fees for undergraduate studies and much more for graduate studies. And it happens the other way around. But we can say with certainty that in no country the quality of education is directly related to its cost.Here is such a strange picture!
So, the three most expensive universities in the world include the following institutions .
Sarah Lawrence College
For the fifth consecutive year, Sarah Lawrence College leads the ranking of the most expensive colleges in the world. It is a private, independent liberal arts education institution located in South Westchester County, New York, in Yonkers. Its founder is William van Duser Lawrence, a large realtor and owner of a pharmaceutical factory.Having realized his educational idea in 1926, he named the college after his wife Sarah.
The college is renowned for its high academic standards and an individual approach to each student. There are fewer than five students per teacher. Initially, this establishment was only for women, but in 1968 it became available for men as well. It is currently the most expensive college in the United States.
