Krasnoperekopsk
On the northern outskirts of Ishun, the highway crosses the Kherson-Dzhankoy railway and after 4 km leads to Krasnoperekopsk, the youngest city in the Crimean region (15,000 inhabitants). Until July 1966, it was a settlement founded in 1932 by the builders of a bromine plant. In 1934, on the shores of Lake Staroye, one of the nine salt lakes of the Perekop group, one of the first-born of Soviet chemistry was put into operation. The Nazi invaders turned the first-class enterprise and the village into heaps of ruins, but the Soviet people revived them.
In the post-war years, the plant grew into a large chemical enterprise. In the years of the seven-year plan alone, the number of types of manufactured chemical products has tripled. There are few branches of the national economy where the products of Krasnoperekop chemists would not be used. From the brine of the Perekop lakes, bromine and its derivatives are extracted, which are used in the pharmaceutical, printing and film industry, magnesium chloride is the most valuable filler in the production of rubber, plastics and other materials, sovelite and newvel are indispensable heat-insulating materials at thermal power plants, etc.
Staroe and Krasnoye lakes are no longer able to meet the plant’s rapidly growing demand for raw materials. Now Sivash has become its raw material base.
The Krasnoperekopsky plant is connected by a gas pipeline to the Dzhankoyskoye natural gas field and receives not only local cheap fuel, but also feedstock for the production of organic bromine products. Fresh water is now provided in abundance by the North Crimean Canal.
Next to the bromine plant, the construction of a large soda plant has begun, which will become operational in the end of the current five-year plan.
The integrated use of Sivash brine at the Krasnoperekop plant laid the foundation for the industrial development of this wonderful pantry of great chemistry in the north of the Crimean peninsula.
Krasnoperekopsk is expanding from year to year. Entire blocks of new five-story buildings appeared. In the regional House of Culture, a historical museum of the Perekop land was created on a voluntary basis. In the center of the exposition is a sketch of the diorama “Storm of Perekop in 1920” by artist I. Petrov and sculptor R. Serdyuk. On Tolbukhin Street, a monument was erected on the mass grave of Soviet soldiers who fell in the battles for Perekop.
The route of the North Crimean Canal passed through the land of ancient Perekop. There are rice fields on the sides of the road.
On the 131st km – with. Rice, and 8 km to the north of it is Armyansk, founded in the 18th century. In November 1920, units of the Red Army under the command of M.V. Frunze crossed the Sivash and reached the Lithuanian peninsula east of Armyansk.
On the site of this not so long ago small village, in which now more than 15 thousand inhabitants live, a new city is growing with multi-storey buildings, parks and gardens. The settlement owes its growth to the construction of the largest titanium dioxide plant in our country. Titanium dioxide is the initial product for the production of titanium white, which is widely used in industry.
To the north of Armyansk, at the 144th km from Simferopol, the highway comes to the so-called Turkish, but in fact an older ditch and rampart, from which the Russian name of the isthmus comes – Perekop. The length of the shaft (in a straight line) from Sivash to the Black Sea is 8 km, the width at the base is more than 15 m, the height is 8 m. The ditch in front of the northern slope has a depth of up to 10 m and a width of 20 m. built about 2 thousand years ago. There is an assumption that it served as a channel connecting the Sea of Azov with the Black.
Many glorious pages in the history of the Russian and Ukrainian peoples are connected with Perekop. Repeatedly on Perekop land, the Cossacks fought with the Turkish invaders. More than once during the Russian-Turkish wars, Russian troops overcame the Perekop fortifications. On June 14, 1771, the Russian army under the command of V. M. Dolgorukov took possession of them and, having entered the Crimea, expelled the Turkish invaders from the peninsula.
Twice Perekop witnessed the military feat of the Soviet people: for the first time, when the Red Army, having stormed the Perekop fortifications, liberated the Crimea from Wrangel, the second time during the Great Patriotic War.
To the east of the railway, on the Perekop shaft, there are monuments to Soviet soldiers. The construction of a majestic memorial in honor of the heroes of Perekop, who fell during the years of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, is planned here. In the central part of the shaft in April 1944 there was a command post of the 4th Ukrainian Front. The dugout of Marshal of the Soviet Union A. M. Vasilevsky and General of the Army F. I. Tolbukhin has been preserved, a memorial plaque has been installed on it.
To the right of the road, the ditch and rampart are aligned. A platform called “Peaceful assault on Perekop” was laid out here. An alley of young trees leads to the channel of the North Crimean Canal.
The North Crimean Canal is the largest irrigation system in Europe. The section of the canal completed by the builders has already stretched for 317 km.
By the end of the Lenin jubilee year, the builders of the canal prepared and put into operation 118 thousand hectares of irrigated land, including about 30 thousand hectares for rice. The waters of the Dnieper are already irrigating the fields of Krasnoperekopsky, Razdolnensky, Dzhankoysky, Krasnogvardeysky, Saksky, Nizhnegorsky, Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts.
The canal is of great economic importance. Irrigation of the Crimean lands makes it possible to obtain from them a huge amount of various agricultural products.
Ukraine continues to build the “Vostochny Val” on the border with Russia – State Border Guard Service – EADaily, May 5, 2021 – Politics News, Russian News 400 km of anti-tank ditch, installed 100 km of metal fence and stretched 70 km of barbed wire.
The general stated that the arrangement of the border with Russia continues, although it is no longer taking place within the framework of the Wall project, which is associated with the first post-Maidan prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk .
Deineko said this on May 5 in an interview with RBC-Ukraine (the site was blocked in Russia).
There is no Project Wall. This name has been preserved in everyday life. Unfortunately, in our society, the Wall project is associated only with negative manifestations,” the head of the State Border Guard Service complained.
According to him, the completion of the arrangement of the border with Russia depends only on Ukraine and what society wants to see on the border. At the same time, he admitted that no border structures can actually save from “Russian aggression”.
“We must understand that there is no such wall that would reliably protect us from it, which has become a kind of sarcophagus from Russian Iskanders and tanks. Such a wall does not exist. The only wall can be the readiness for self-sacrifice and the courage of our soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Service and all other security and defense forces,” Deineko recited.
And then he made the exact opposite statement that the construction of the border “wall” should continue in order to ensure 100% control over the border line.
“This is exactly the kind of engineering we are doing. We are equipping an anti-tank ditch, a control strip, a roadway and completing it all with the creation of a video surveillance system. That is, we are building towers on which we install video cameras and thermal imagers, which constantly provide 24/7 control over the state border. This is the most effective system that allows you to completely eliminate the human factor,” said the head of the State Border Service.
Recall that in 2014, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk proposed to build the European Wall on the border with Russia.
