How does the Warrior All-American Games impact youth lacrosse. What are the key controversies surrounding team selection and tryouts. Why do some view the event as a potential scam. How can participants maximize their experience at the tournament.
The Evolution of Warrior All-American Games
The Warrior All-American Games have become a significant event in the youth lacrosse calendar, particularly for players in the 7th grade age group (2023 graduation year). This prestigious tournament aims to showcase top talent from across the country, but it has not been without controversy.
Team Selection Process: Transparency Issues
One of the most contentious aspects of the Warrior All-American Games has been the team selection process. Many participants and parents have expressed frustration with what they perceive as a lack of transparency. Some key issues include:
- Allegations of pre-selected teams
- High costs associated with tryouts ($185 fee mentioned)
- Questions about the fairness of the selection criteria
Have tryouts become merely a formality? Some critics argue that the teams are largely hand-selected by the organizers, with JS (likely referring to a key figure in the organization) having significant influence over the final rosters.
The Video Submission Alternative
In response to concerns about the tryout process, the Warrior All-American Games introduced a video submission option. This allows players to showcase their skills without attending in-person tryouts. While this may seem more convenient, it has raised new questions:
- Does this create an unfair advantage for some players?
- How are video submissions evaluated compared to in-person performances?
- Is this option truly leveling the playing field or further complicating the selection process?
Financial Considerations: Investment or Expense?
Participating in the Warrior All-American Games represents a significant financial commitment for families. Beyond the tryout fee, there are additional costs to consider:
- Travel expenses to the tournament location (Denver mentioned)
- Equipment and uniform costs
- Potential lost wages for parents attending the event
Is the investment worth it? This is a question many families grapple with when deciding whether to pursue a spot in the tournament. Some view it as a valuable opportunity for exposure and competition, while others see it as an unnecessary expense that may not significantly impact a player’s long-term prospects.
Competitive Balance and Team Composition
The level of competition at the Warrior All-American Games is a topic of much debate. While the tournament bills itself as featuring the best youth lacrosse talent in the country, some participants have raised concerns about the actual quality of play. Key points of contention include:
- Allegations of ineligible players (with claims of 4-5 such players mentioned)
- Perceived skill discrepancies between teams
- Questions about whether truly elite players are participating or opting for other opportunities
Do these issues impact the overall value of the tournament experience? For players seeking high-level competition, any doubts about the caliber of opponents could diminish the perceived benefits of participation.
Long-Term Impact on Player Development
A critical question surrounding the Warrior All-American Games is its actual impact on a player’s lacrosse trajectory. While the tournament provides exposure and competition, it’s essential to consider its place in the broader context of youth lacrosse development.
Does participation in this event significantly influence college recruiting or future opportunities? Some argue that the tournament’s importance may be overstated, while others view it as a valuable addition to a player’s resume. Ultimately, the long-term benefits likely vary depending on individual circumstances and how players leverage the experience.
Ethical Concerns and Criticisms
The Warrior All-American Games have faced some harsh criticisms from within the lacrosse community. Some of the ethical concerns raised include:
- Accusations of the event being a “scam” or money-making scheme
- Questions about the motivations of organizers (references to a “teeth whitening fund”)
- Concerns about the pressure placed on young athletes and their families
Are these criticisms warranted, or do they stem from misconceptions about the event’s purpose and organization? It’s crucial to consider multiple perspectives when evaluating the tournament’s overall value and integrity.
Maximizing the Warrior All-American Games Experience
For families who do choose to participate in the Warrior All-American Games, there are ways to potentially maximize the value of the experience:
- Set realistic expectations about the tournament’s impact
- Focus on personal growth and skill development rather than team results
- Network with coaches, players, and families from other regions
- Use the event as a benchmark to identify areas for improvement
- Document the experience for future reference (highlights, stats, etc.)
By approaching the tournament with a clear purpose and open mind, participants may be able to derive more value from their involvement, regardless of the controversies surrounding the event.
The Role of Parents in the Warrior All-American Games
Parents play a crucial role in the Warrior All-American Games experience, from the decision to participate to supporting their child throughout the process. Key considerations for parents include:
- Evaluating the costs and potential benefits objectively
- Helping their child maintain perspective on the tournament’s significance
- Encouraging a focus on personal growth rather than external validation
- Being aware of the potential pressures and stress associated with high-profile youth sports events
How can parents best support their children through the Warrior All-American Games process? Open communication, realistic goal-setting, and emphasizing the importance of enjoying the game are all valuable approaches.
Alternative Opportunities in Youth Lacrosse
While the Warrior All-American Games garner significant attention, it’s important to recognize that they represent just one of many opportunities in youth lacrosse. Players and families may want to consider alternatives such as:
- Regional showcase tournaments
- College prospect camps
- Local elite travel teams
- Specialized skills clinics
Each of these options offers unique benefits and may be more suitable for certain players depending on their goals, skill level, and financial circumstances. Diversifying experiences can provide a well-rounded development path and potentially mitigate the pressure associated with any single event.
The Future of the Warrior All-American Games
As youth lacrosse continues to evolve, so too must events like the Warrior All-American Games. Potential areas for improvement or change could include:
- Increased transparency in the selection process
- More affordable participation options
- Enhanced focus on player development rather than competition
- Improved communication with families about expectations and outcomes
Will the organizers address the criticisms and concerns raised by the lacrosse community? The long-term success and reputation of the Warrior All-American Games may depend on their ability to adapt and respond to feedback.
Balancing Competition and Development in Youth Lacrosse
The Warrior All-American Games highlight a broader discussion about the role of high-level competition in youth sports. Key questions to consider include:
- At what age is it appropriate to introduce national-level tournaments?
- How can competitive events be structured to prioritize player development?
- What is the proper balance between local play and travel tournaments?
Finding the right approach requires input from coaches, parents, players, and sports development experts. The goal should be creating an environment that fosters both competitive growth and a lifelong love for the game.
The Impact of Social Media and Hype
In the age of social media, events like the Warrior All-American Games can take on outsized importance in the minds of young players and their families. This phenomenon raises several important considerations:
- The potential for unrealistic expectations based on social media portrayals
- The pressure to participate in high-profile events for fear of missing out
- The role of online discussions and forums in shaping perceptions of the tournament
How can players and families maintain perspective amidst the online buzz surrounding youth lacrosse events? Encouraging critical thinking and emphasizing personal goals over external validation can help navigate the complex landscape of youth sports in the digital age.
Lessons from Other Youth Sports
The challenges and controversies surrounding the Warrior All-American Games are not unique to lacrosse. Examining similar events in other youth sports can provide valuable insights:
- How do other sports handle national showcases for young athletes?
- What best practices can be adopted from successful youth sports models?
- Are there cautionary tales from other sports that lacrosse should heed?
By learning from the experiences of other youth sports communities, lacrosse organizers and families can work towards creating more positive and beneficial experiences for young athletes.
The Role of Lacrosse Governing Bodies
US Lacrosse and other governing bodies play a crucial role in shaping the landscape of youth lacrosse. Their involvement (or lack thereof) in events like the Warrior All-American Games raises important questions:
- Should there be more oversight of national youth tournaments?
- How can governing bodies help ensure ethical practices in youth lacrosse events?
- What guidelines or standards could be implemented to improve the overall youth lacrosse experience?
Increased engagement from lacrosse’s governing bodies could potentially address some of the concerns surrounding high-profile youth tournaments while helping to establish best practices for the sport as a whole.
Preparing for the Next Level: Beyond Youth Lacrosse
While events like the Warrior All-American Games focus on showcasing young talent, it’s crucial to consider how these experiences prepare players for the next levels of the sport. Key aspects to consider include:
- The alignment between youth tournament play and high school/college lacrosse
- Developing well-rounded athletes rather than early specialists
- Fostering mental toughness and resilience through appropriate challenges
How can youth lacrosse events better bridge the gap to higher levels of play? Focusing on fundamental skills, tactical understanding, and character development may ultimately prove more valuable than emphasizing wins and individual accolades at young ages.
Creating a Positive Youth Lacrosse Culture
The discussions surrounding the Warrior All-American Games reflect broader concerns about the culture of youth lacrosse. To foster a more positive environment, stakeholders should consider:
- Emphasizing sportsmanship and fair play at all levels
- Celebrating effort and improvement rather than just results
- Encouraging multi-sport participation and diverse athletic experiences
- Promoting inclusive practices that welcome players from all backgrounds
By focusing on these elements, the lacrosse community can work towards creating a youth sports culture that prioritizes long-term athlete development and enjoyment of the game.

2020 BioSteel All-American Game Announced
CHICAGO, ILL. – The United States Hockey League, in conjunction with USA Hockey and the NHL, announced Wednesday the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game which will be held at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, January 20, 2020 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
“Our partnership with USA Hockey and the NHL has never been stronger, and working together on this game to celebrate our top players is something we’re very much looking forward to,” said USHL President and Commissioner Tom Garrity. “Hockey in our country continues to grow and get stronger and we’re proud to be part of those efforts each and every day.”
New this season, the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) Under-18 team, which is one of the USHL’s 16 Member Clubs and plays a full 62-game schedule in the USHL, will square off against the top NHL Draft-eligible players from the USHL, the only Tier I junior league in the United States. This new event is a combination of two previous events, the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the All-American Game hosted by USA Hockey. The event aims to be a showcase of the best NHL Draft-eligible players currently playing in the United States and is a great event for NHL scouts to witness the best talent the United States has to offer before the 2020 NHL Draft in June.
“We look forward to bringing the BioSteel All-American Game to USA Hockey Arena and we’re particularly excited to have the close partnership of the USHL and NHL in putting on this game,” said USA Hockey Assistant Executive Director John Vanbiesbrouck. “With our new format, and moving the event from September to January, we think the game will be extremely competitive and a terrific showcase of our top players. To have the future American stars of the NHL all on a single sheet of ice is really unique and something fans will enjoy.”
The previous USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game (2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012) has featured 269 different USHL players. Of the 269, 110 were taken in the NHL Draft and 237 are either committed to, or attended, an NCAA DI program. Among the Top Prospects Game alumni, 115 are currently playing Division I hockey, 39 are in the American Hockey League (AHL), and 14 are in the National Hockey League (NHL). Seventeen current USHL players have previously appeared in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game including 12 in 2019 (Kaden Bohlsen – DM, Lynden Breen – CIL, Ryan Drkulec – WAT, Michael Feenstra – DBQ, Cedric Fiedler – FGO, Will Francis – CR, Christopher Giroday – GB, Dylan Jackson – DBQ, Ty Jackson – DBQ, Tyler Paquette – DM, Grant Silianoff – CR, Logan Stein – WAT) and five in 2018 (Aidan Fulp – DBQ, Xan Gurney – CHI, Ryan O’Reilly – MAD, Jack Randl – OMA, Harrison Roy – CR).
In the seven prior All-American games, 287 players have participated with 243 (84.7 percent) having ties to the USHL. Of the 243 with USHL ties, 161 were playing in the league at the time of the game and 82 were either league alumni or had not yet played in the USHL. Twelve current USHL players previously played in the All-American Game, including eight in 2018 (Braden Doyle – DBQ, Ryan Drkulec – WAT, Aaron Huglen – FGO, Mike Koster – TC, Garrett Pinoniemi – SF, John Prokop – MUS, Cameron Rowe – DM, Grant Silianoff – CR) and four in 2017 (Jack Jensen – OMA, Ryan O’Reilly – GB, Jack Randl – OMA, Adam Samuelsson – SC). Of the 188 total All-American alumni selected in the NHL Draft, 162 are USHL alumni, with all 31 NHL teams having selected at least one USHL alumni.
Final rosters, coaches, and on-ice officials for the BioSteel All-American Game will be named at a later date. For more information about the game, click HERE.

PGF All-American Game Watchlists… East & West Teams to Go from Nearly 400 to 40
The 2018 PGF All-American Game teams and coaches. This year’s teams will be chosen on June 1 and will come from nearly 400 players announced on PGF Regional All-American Watchlists last week.
In just its fourth year, the PGF All-American Game has become the top pre-college softball All-American game in the nation and to compete in it—or even be chosen—is a huge honor.
Last week, the initial Regional All-American Watchlists were released featuring 375 players in six regions with those in the Western and Mountain regions to comprise the final PGF West All-American team and those from the Central, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest regions to make up the PGF East All-American team.

The West owns a 2-1 edge in the Series after winning 4-1 on July 28, 2018 thanks to a strong hitting performance by current Missouri standout freshman Jazmyn Rollin who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI for the winners.
Extra Inning Softball is proud to be on the selection committee once again working with All-American Game Directors Derek & Joann Allister of OnDeck Softball as well as members of USA Today, Gatorade and PGF who will help choose the teams made up of approximately 20 players on each squad.
The two all-star squads will be made up roughly of three pitchers, three catchers, five outfielders, five middle infielders and four corner infielders for each team. The final teams will be chosen and announced on June 1, 2019.
Players may be chosen and not be able to play for various reasons such as being injured or playing on the USA Softball U-19 Jr. Women’s National team.
Last year, three players like this—Montana Fouts (Alabama), Cheyenne Lindsey (Florida)and Kathryn Sandercock (Florida State)—were named as All-Americans although they couldn’t participate.
This year, several outstanding pitchers could be chosen but not be able to player as they are on Team USA: Kelley Lynch, a Washington signee and the #1 overall player in the 2019 Extra Elite 100, as well as Lexi Kilfoyl (Alabama), Rylee Trlicek (Texas A&M) and Callie Turner (Tennessee).
The PGF Regional All-American map.
The talent is always outstanding in the game: of the 25 finalists announced for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA DI National Freshman of the Year award, nine played, or were chosen to play, in last summer’s game.
Last year’s standouts included: OF Lexie Blair (Michigan), P Megan Faraimo (UCLA), SS Lacey Fincher (Georgia), P Montana Fouts (Alabama), OF Kelli Godin (UCLA), P Shealyn O’Leary (Texas), P Ashley Rogers, 3B Jazmyn Rollin (Missouri) and P Danielle Williams (Northwestern).

6 Years • Career Record: 107-121
Jaime Wohlbach completed her sixth season as head softball coach at East Stroudsburg University in 2021.
The Warriors have had 12 All-PSAC East selections in Wohlbach’s first six years years at ESU and in 2021, Marah Range become the first player in program history to be named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year. In 2017, Mary Wallick became the first ESU player in six years to earn NFCA First Team All-Atlantic Region accolades.
Wohlbach led the Warriors to one of the best season’s in program history in 2021 as they ranked No. 24 in the final NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll after finishing as the runner-up in the Atlantic Region. Freshman Reilly Vicendese put together an impressive debut season as she was was named to the All-PSAC Second Team as well as Second-Team All-Region by both the D2CCA and the NFCA after batting .380 with a freshman record 60 hits and 30 RBIs. Morgan Walsh rounded out the postseason honors for the Warriors as she was selected to the All-PSAC Second Team after posting a .400 batting average with a .529 on-base percentage.
During the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, the Warriors went 6-10.
During the 2019 campaign, Wohlbach led the Warriors to the most wins in a season (26) since the 2007 campaign, while the team’s eight PSAC East wins were the most in program history since the conference deployed the three division format.
The Warriors have led the PSAC in stolen bases per game in four of Wohlbach’s five seasons, with the lone exception being the 2020 campaign that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the Warriors set the program’s single-season record with 126 stolen bases.
In addition to her collegiate coaching, Wohlbach has maintained a strong presence internationally, serving as an assistant coach for Peru’s national team at the Women’s Softball World Championships and also leading a USA Northeast Region team at the U12 All-American Games in 2017 and 2018.
Wohlbach, formerly head coach at the University of Delaware for five years, arrived at ESU with eight years of collegiate head coaching experience, all at the Division I level.

She was previously head coach at Iona from 2008-10, earning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in her final season after leading the Gaels to their first MAAC Championship title in 25 years. With the conference title, Iona advanced to the NCAA DI tournament for the first time in program history.
Wohlbach began her coaching career as a student assistant at Kutztown (2000-01), volunteer assistant at Muhlenberg (1999-01) and Lehigh (2001-02) and as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania (2002-03).
She served on the NCAA rules committee in 2013, and has been selected as a conference representative for the head coaches committee at both of her previous positions.
Since 2002, Wohlbach has run a national and international softball clinic, J9 Fastpitch Performance. The camps and clinics have included instruction in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Belgium and Australia.
As a player, Wohlbach earned All-PSAC East honors at catcher in her junior and senior seasons at Kutztown, and she added All-Region recognition as a senior in 2000. She was a three-time team captain and Kutztown’s team MVP in 1999.
Professionally, she signed with the Tampa Bay FireStix in the former Women’s Professional Softball League for the 2001 season. She was selected in the fourth round of the December 2003 draft in the National Pro Fastpitch League by the California Sunbirds in Sacramento. She additionally played for the independent league Nebraska Comets and the NPF’s Philadelphia Force in 2006.
Wohlbach participated in tours in the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Italy, and played professionally in New Zealand in 2004 and 2005. She also competed on a world all-star select team which included players from the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, Japan and South Africa.
In 2004, Wohlbach played for the Great Britain National Team in Athens, Greece as a test run for the 2004 Athens Olympics. NEWS ROOM WARRIOR ALL-AMERICAN UNIFORMS FOR 2018 | by Sean Rooney
Good Morning everyone! Happy Tuesday! Not too much happened from yesterday, but the Yankees forced a game 5! Everyone will be watching!
BARSTOOL SPORTS POST A LAX VIDEO
My man Jordie at Barstoolsports is a complete gem. He is a huge help for getting lacrosse out there. Even though everyone makes fun of it, he still gets the sport out there. He does awesome college recaps all season long and the guy is even a bigger indoor fan. Let’s go WINGS! New York is going to need his help getting the New York NLL team back. I’m done blowing him don’t worry. I just think it’s awesome his one v. one video with Lyle Thompson has over 102k views. Love it! Jordie you need to come to Long Island the hot bed of LAX!
I love the Fall-Access Inside Lacrosse does. They help you get amped up for the spring and gives you something to look forward to. After reading their article I couldn’t believe what I read. I must have read it ten times. The Tigers won’t play Hofstra anymore?! This game is always second game of season and it was brutal. Always an all out battle. One goal games and I got to go see it when Hofstra was home. Hofstra the best place for a lax game. Stadium is awesome and only lined for LAX. At least the quarter finals are here for a few more years. SIDETONE Stony Brook added bleachers on the other end-zone. Could we possibly get BOTH QUARTERFINALS on Strong Island? Stony Brook host all the High-School games at the end of the year and the place is an electric factory. Anyway sad to hear the Pride and Tigers won’t be playing anymore. At least the Tigers didn’t add a cupcake game. They added the fast past Cavaliers, this game will be awesome! Check out Inside Lacrosse Fall-Access on the Tigers.
This guy makes me want to run through a wall. I wonder how this guy gets so jacked up for things. He could probably could get you hyped up for a ball hunt after a “run day” practice and convince you into it. Guy is a straight SAVAGE. I followed along Project 9 all weekend and the clips of him hyping the Defense up makes me glad I wasn’t an attack man or mid-fielder there. Check this out. He should have played mid-field or attack. Imagine ,him as a mid-fielder, what an offense would do if he came down, split left, and just stuck one top shelf. That team would never lose a game and they’e win by ten each game. Love what this guy does for the sport. We’ve come a long way since his Star-Bucks macho man incident. Give credit where credit is due and you Scott Rodgers are the real “beast.”
P.S. I take Scott TKO v. Guernlian ALL DAY
What do you think about the Warrior All-American Uniform?
They only released one of the three. This one is awesome! Love the pinnie and the shorts. Shorts are fire they would be perfect to wear around Memorial Day weekend and Fourth of July. Love them so far and I can’t wait for the next three to release.

Other Targets
Jordan Woods, 6’4″, 255-pound 4-star strong-side defensive end

“Warriors” against “Wings”: the first American football match was held in Tomsk
Dmitry Kandinsky / vtomske.ru
On Sunday, July 15, the Temp stadium hosted an American football match between the Tomsk “Warriors” “And Novosibirsk” Iron Wings “.The game became the first for this sport in the history of Tomsk. The guests won it with a crushing score of 0:37.
The match between the teams took place as part of the American Football Championship of the Siberian Federal District. This tournament is being held for the first time. So far only two teams are taking part in it.
“There were simply no more teams. The championship is nevertheless full-fledged, official and the first in the history of Siberia. The sport is amateur. All for your money. The equipment costs about 20 thousand. The organization is also at its own expense. Plus, all the associated costs are also borne by us personally, the players. Until this sport is supported, it will remain at the amateur level, ”said Yegor Pivovarov, player of the“ Iron Wings ”and president of the Novosibirsk federation.
For a football player, Tomsk is not a strange city. He graduated from the history faculty of TSU. “In a nightmare I could only imagine that I would play American football in your city,” Pivovarov notes.
The first American football match in the history of Tomsk was held at the Temp stadium. They tried to equip it according to the standards of the game: they made markings on the field from masking tape, installed signs separating a distance of ten yards. About 200 spectators gathered in the stands. To make it easier for them to understand the intricacies of American football, the teams’ actions were explained by the commentator.
The second match of the SFO championship is held in Tomsk. In the first, the Warriors lost to the Iron Wings in Novosibirsk with a score of 8:13.The game in Tomsk also began under the dictation of the guests. After the first half, they led 13-0 with two touchdowns and one field goal.
“The opponent is serious. We have already lost to them twice. Today we need to fight. You just need to pull yourself together. Recovering from 0:13 is real. In the final of last year in the NFL we played back from 3:28, so everything is in our hands, “says Maxim Kuznetsov, a player of Tomsk Voinov.
However, after a long break, the guests’ advantage only increased.Iron Wings scored another 24 points, bringing the final score to a crushing 0:37.
“It is difficult to name the reasons for this result so far. Now we will analyze the game. The long bench of the rival played an important role. We could count on fewer replacements. Plus, the Wings are better prepared physically. Well, the teamwork played a role. We have more than half of the team – beginners. We will gain experience, we will work on mistakes, ”said the coach and player of Voinov Andrei Zorin.
The next game of the team will be held in Kemerovo on August 5.This is done in order to attract a local audience and organize a team there. American football will return to Tomsk on August 12, but it is not yet known where the next match between “Warriors” and “Iron Wings” will take place. In the coming days, FC Sakhalin will begin to base at the Temp stadium. If it is not possible to agree with the European football team, the American football match can be held at the Burevestnik stadium or at the Tomi base in Kaltay.
The great warrior of Russia: the life and death of the fearless Ak-Pasha | Articles
Saturday, September 29, marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Skobelev. The name of this man is known to almost everyone, meanwhile he is perhaps the most controversial and complex figure in the pantheon of great Russian generals. He is considered an outstanding commander, “Suvorov’s equal”, although he was never a commander-in-chief in large companies and did not win big battles. A Slavophil, who adored Paris, a faithful servant of the fatherland, who was not loved by the tsar and the court, but idolized by soldiers and ordinary people, the national hero of Bulgaria, almost forgotten for a century in his homeland. He lived only 38 years, but managed to achieve such fame that others could only dream of.Details – in the material “Izvestia”.
Hereditary general, grandson of a soldier
Skobelev came from an extraordinary family – his father and grandfather were generals. At the same time, the grandfather – Ivan Nikitich Skobelev – was a clear example of the famous Napoleonic aphorism about the fact that in the knapsack of every soldier there is a marshal’s baton: the son of a Suvorov sergeant from serfs, he began service as a private and became a general. And what is characteristic, he became famous precisely during the wars with Bonaparte.
Through heroism and self-sacrifice, Skobelev rose to the highest ranks, losing one hand and three fingers on the other.Nevertheless, Ivan Nikitich continued to serve as commandant of the Peter and Paul Fortress and wrote stories in which the main characters were ordinary Russian soldiers he met on the battlefields. I “remember the good, I remember the bad, but, I confess, I do not remember anything better than a Russian soldier,” said one of his works.

Naturally, the only son of the general, Dmitry, chose a military career and subsequently also earned the general’s epaulettes.By this time, the Skobelevs became related to eminent noble families, but they did not forget their “national” roots and were proud of them. Surprisingly, Mikhail – the only son of Dmitry and the heir of family traditions – although he grew up among the military in the house of his famous grandfather, on the contrary, at first chose a peaceful path. However, fate quickly put everything in its place.
When Mikhail was six years old, he was sent to study at a boarding school in France. In those days, in the noble society it was believed that excessive parental care was harmful to education, and children were ruthlessly sent away from their home.Upon his return, Mikhail entered the Faculty of Mathematics of St. Petersburg University, and it is not known how his fate would have developed if in 1862 Emperor Alexander II had not closed the educational institution “until the revision of the University Charter.”
Skobelev had no choice but to join the army. First there was the Cavalry Regiment, then the Grodno Hussars and the first participation in hostilities in Poland. Like his father, who will serve for many years under the inspector general of cavalry, Mikhail sat perfectly in the saddle from childhood and preferred cavalry units.
Ak Pasha
The next step in the career of a young officer was the General Staff Academy – then an elite institution, which recruited only a few dozen of the most promising young military men. At the end of his studies, the lieutenant had the broadest opportunities, and, taking into account family ties, Skobelev could have stayed in the capital, but he chose Turkestan.
Probably, this decision first manifested his inherent desire to be in the hottest spots – otherwise he would get bored. This was passion, ambition, passion for playing with fate and a desire to prove oneself. Skobelev never served for the sake of money – he was initially quite well off. He also did not pursue a career – his quarrelsome, explosive nature and unwillingness to please and adapt knowingly deprived him of such an opportunity. He participated in duels with colleagues more than once, and independence of judgment and directness rarely allowed him to be in favor with his superiors. Few executives saw its enormous potential and were willing to endure its challenging nature.
One of these was the commander of the troops of the Turkestan Military District, Adjutant General Konstantin Petrovich von Kaufman, to whom Lieutenant Skobelev came in 1867. A brave military man, a wise statesman, an outstanding politician – he was the man who was the first to pursue the policy of colonization not with a whip, but with a carrot, more precisely, humanism, enlightenment and European modernization. Skobelev became his closest associate, he learned a lot from Kaufman and generally accepted his value system.

With short interruptions, Skobelev stayed in Central Asia for eight years from 1869 to 1877. He went from lieutenant to major general and governor of the Fergana region, participated in hundreds of military operations, countless campaigns, research expeditions, and negotiations with local bays. He took part in the annexation of Khiva and Kokand, was wounded many times, received two Georgievs and a golden saber for bravery.
Here his military leadership and the famous image of Ak-Pasha, or the White General, were formed – he always chose white horses and white uniforms, if the situation allowed. At least some element of its form should have a snow-white color. The general himself said that it all began when, as a child, a white horse pulled him out of a swamp, and then some shaman in Khiva conjured up that the white color protects him. Skobelev was generally very superstitious, as his adjutant, Don Cossack, Esaul Pyotr Arkhipovich Dukmasov wrote about in his memoirs.
The white color was, of course, a kind of officer slickness, a demonstrative challenge to fate. But this was not an empty posturing, but a thoughtful way of psychological influence on the soldiers. Skobelev never hid behind their backs, did not bow to bullets, was in front of his regiments and was the first to attack with a saber in his hands. He was also extremely close to the soldier, cared for him. Skobelev always demanded from the officers that the soldiers were provided with hot food, dressed and shoes, weapons and ammunition were in perfect order. On campaigns, he often walked with the regiments, sat with the soldiers by the fire, and ate with them from the same cauldron.
He was a real father-commander in the Suvorov understanding of this term, and the soldiers were ready to go into fire and water for him. It was quite a calculating and time-tested demeanor that was inherent in the “Suvorov school”: Alexander Vasilyevich himself acted this way, his students did the same – His Serene Highness Prince Kutuzov, Prince Bagration, generals Dokhturov, Raevsky, Miloradovich, Ermolov and other heroes of 1812 …Their ideological heirs – admirals Nakhimov, Kornilov and Istomin – behaved in the same way during the Crimean War. Skobelev followed the same tradition, and how could it be otherwise, with his genes and grandfather’s upbringing?
But in the general’s environment Skobelev did not have many friends, but there were enough envious people. Glory went ahead of the successful commander, and this aroused jealousy. By the way, Skobelev himself to a large extent contributed to his fame, possibly one of the first military men who intuitively understood the importance of mass media in the new conditions, when most of society was literate, and the press became mass and accessible.

Skobelev created conditions for the work of journalists, often communicated with them, with many he was tied by comradely ties. Among the general’s closest friends were the artist Vasily Vereshchagin (then the pictures were replaced by photos) and the American correspondent Januarius McGahan, with whom he went through the eastern campaign, the military publicist Vasily Nemirovich-Danchenko (the brother of the famous theatrical figure), who became his first biographer, and the publisher Ivan Aksakov.
According to newspaper publications, the capital’s society knew perfectly well about Skobelev’s exploits, while the capital’s armchair strategists were jealous of his “George” around his neck and his rapid growth in ranks, therefore, they spoke with disdain about the victories over the “negligibles”.
In 1877, just on the eve of the war with Turkey, Skobelev received a denunciation about an allegedly dishonest attitude towards state money. He was removed from the post of governor, summoned to the court. The emperor was furious, personally shamed him by the memory of his grandfather and the honor of his father. Then it turned out that the slander was false, and the charges against Skobelev were dropped, but while the investigation was underway, he found himself outside the units sent to the Balkans.
Volunteer General
And then the general took an extraordinary step – he asked to go to the Balkans as a simple volunteer. At first he was at the main apartment, then he became an adjutant of an equal in rank, Major General Mikhail Dragomirov, his teacher at the Academy. Probably, such an example in military history will no longer be found.
Skobelev personally conducted reconnaissance, preparing to cross the Danube. He swam across the river on horseback, looking for comfortable places – of course, all in white, with “George” on his neck strap. The first led the regiments to storm the coastal fortifications. Dragomirov wrote in a victorious report: “I cannot but testify about the great help rendered to me by His Majesty’s Retinue by Major General Skobelev … and about the beneficial effect that he had on young people with his brilliant, invariably clear calmness.” Although Skobelev himself was only 33 years old.

Skobelev was awarded and appointed chief of staff of the combined Cossack division commanded by his father, despite the reluctance of many high officials to see him among the command staff. But the sovereign could not ignore public opinion, and it was entirely on the side of Skobelev.
The rumor of the soldier was also full of rumors about the miracle general, who had not suffered a single defeat in his life – he was expected, they hoped for him.And the more fighters found themselves under his direct command, the more often the troops talked about his amazing courage and responsiveness, his kind, albeit strict attitude towards the soldiers.
Skobelev’s troops distinguished themselves at Lovech. During the famous third assault on Plevna, Skobelev commanded one of the three advancing columns, and he is the only one who managed to break into the enemy’s fortifications and gain a foothold on them. His troops attacked in close formation at full height, with banners unfurled and to the roar of regimental bands, and the general himself walked in front.
Skobelev asked for reinforcements to build on the success, but General Kridener, who commanded the operation, was too cautious. As a result, Osman Pasha threw two-thirds of his forces against the Skobelevsky detachment. The Russian soldiers withstood four attacks and retreated in good order. The assault on Plevna ended in failure, but Skobelev again proved to be a real hero.

Then there was the December crossing through the snow-covered Balkans, which should immediately put the Turks at a disadvantage. The enemy did not believe in the possibility of such a development of events, and many of our military leaders considered the risk excessive. But General Fyodor Radetsky nevertheless sent detachments of Generals Nikolai Svyatopolk-Mirsky and Skobelev through the mountains to the rear and flank of Wessel Pasha’s corps. Skobelev, using his own money, bought sheepskin coats and goose fat for the soldiers of his detachment, which they soaked in socks and footcloths to avoid frostbite.
Before the campaign, he ordered the officers to carefully examine the uniforms of each soldier, replace the unusable and find the missing.Purchase from local markets if needed. And Skobelev also ordered each soldier to put one dry log in his knapsack, so that a fire could be quickly kindled in the snow-capped mountains.
As a result, not a single soldier from Skobelev’s detachment suffered from frostbite. They crossed the mountains and fell on the Turks like snow on their heads. Radetzky attacked from the front. Wessel Pasha capitulated, after which the outcome of the war was a foregone conclusion.
People’s Hero
Skobelev ended the war in San Stefano, a suburb of Istanbul. As the commander of the vanguard of one of the advancing columns, he came closest to the capital of the Ottoman Empire and hoped that his troops would be able to enter Constantinople. But the politicians decided otherwise – in order not to aggravate relations with the European powers, a peace treaty, rather loyal to the Turks, was signed.
Skobelev remained for some time in Bulgaria, leading the troops stationed there. He saw the reaction of people to the decisions of the Berlin Congress, which in fact returned a significant part of the territories conquered by the Russians and Bulgarians to Turkey. He was especially outraged by the fact that the inhabitants of these lands (the so-called Eastern Rumelia) were forbidden to have an army – it turned out that the Bulgarians, who fought side by side with the Russians, were at the mercy of recent enemies and could be subject to reprisals.

Skobelev could not leave his comrades in arms: at his own peril and risk, he began to create “gymnastic societies”, in fact, paramilitary clubs that trained and united fighters for the defense of their lands. They consisted of more than 100 thousand people. They were given a significant amount of weapons and ammunition, hidden for the time being in secret storage facilities.
Upon his return, Skobelev received the rank of Adjutant General, as well as a gold sword with diamonds and the inscription “For crossing the Balkans.” In Russia, he was perceived as a national hero and the main winner of the Turks – although Skobelev did not hold the highest command posts, hardly anyone could compare with his fame. In Bulgaria, he was even more popular, and his name was even seriously mentioned among the candidates for the Bulgarian throne.
In 1880, the White General was again sent to Central Asia on a campaign against the Tekins, who regularly harassed Russian settlements and hindered the advance to the east. Tekins are natural warriors and, probably, the most militant ethnic group among the nomadic Turkmens. By this time, several expeditions were undertaken against them, but they were all unsuccessful. Skobelev had only 7 thousand fighters, the enemy had much more. But the White General knew exactly what to do, and now no one could stop him – he himself commanded the operation.
The trek was carefully planned and prepared. Caravan paths and wells with water have been explored, the required amount of ammunition, food, water supplies and, of course, camels, on which goods were transported through the desert, have been calculated. And Skobelev, for the first time in combat conditions, used the telegraph, which gave the Russian troops the opportunity to coordinate their actions.

Thanks to precise reconnaissance and discipline during the campaign, the enemy was deprived of his main weapon – sudden and lightning attacks on the fast Akhal-Teke horses. The nomads were forced to retreat to the center of their lands – the oasis and the Geok-Tepe fortress, but Skobelev’s troops stormed the fortifications and brought the region to the subordination of Russia. For this operation, Mikhail Dmitrievich was awarded “George” of the second degree and promoted to general from infantry.
Mystery of the England Hotel
Skobelev was again at the height of his glory. He received under the command of the 4th corps stationed in Belarus and a vacation, which he spent in Paris. There he talked a lot with politicians, met with French Prime Minister Leon Gambetta more than once, and spoke at various meetings. He became a big political figure, his words were listened to at European courts. The case ended with the fact that the emperor urgently recalled him to Petersburg, so as not to complicate relations with the German court, which Skobelev openly opposed.
The general was summoned to court, had a two-hour conversation with Alexander, after which he came out very satisfied. Skobelev spent some time in Minsk, doing business, then went through Moscow to his estate Spasskoye in the Ryazan province. And suddenly, like a bolt from the blue, the news – General Skobelev died suddenly.
It is known that in the last year he often spoke about death. Heavy trials fell upon him – a young and strong father suddenly died, and his mother, whom he loved very much, died tragically in Bulgaria. But thoughts of imminent death or death were not connected with this – family grief was only a terrible background. In conversations with friends, Skobelev often hinted that there is something that threatens him, although he did not specifically specify.Dukmasov, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Prince Obolensky, Aksakov and other people close to him wrote about this later.

The circumstances of death were such that various versions were inevitably born. It is known that the general spent the evening of June 25, 1882 with friends in the Hermitage restaurant – Baron Rosen invited him to celebrate the receipt of the award. Then Skobelev went to the England hotel, which was located at the corner of Stoleshnikov Lane and Petrovka.
This place was known for the fact that its luxurious rooms were chosen by the ladies of the half-world, who provided, as they would say today, escort services. The general had been divorced for a long time, so there was nothing reprehensible in the behavior of a healthy 38-year-old man. And in the middle of the night, a certain Charlotte Altenrose, known as Wanda or Eleanor, ran out into the street, shouting that a soldier had died in her room. It was Skobelev.
In the autopsy report, the dissector of Moscow University, Professor Neidnig, wrote: “He died of paralysis of the heart and lungs, the inflammation of which he suffered so recently.”But Russia did not believe in this. Or didn’t want to believe.
A few days later the funeral took place. Here is how Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin, a witness of those events, described them in the story “The One-Armed Commandant”: “How all of Moscow saw off his body! All Moscow! It’s impossible to describe. All Moscow is on its feet in the morning. Only three-year-old children and unnecessary old people remained in the houses. Neither the singers nor the funeral ringing could be heard over the sobs. Everyone was crying: officers, soldiers, old people and children, students, men, young ladies, butchers, peddlers, cabbies, servants and gentlemen.Moscow is burying the white general! ”
The memorial service had to be postponed – people went to say goodbye to Skobelev all evening and all night. The church was buried in flowers, wreaths and mourning ribbons. The general bequeathed to bury himself in the family crypt in Spasskoye, next to his father and mother. When the funeral procession approached his lands, the peasants removed the coffin from the hearse and carried it on their shoulders to the crypt. And in front of him they carried a wreath from the Academy of the General Staff with the inscription: “To the hero Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev, commander, equal to Suvorov.”

USA – Australia
Despite their first defeat at the Olympics since 2004, the Americans walk the distance not so much with a formidable gait, but with an imposing walking pace, which is usually the way a person who is well acquainted with the surroundings walks.
Greg Popovich’s team does an excellent job with the pressure of the press and the status of a favorite, knows when to add, and when, on the contrary, to allow opponents to feel a false sense of superiority. The problems of the Americans are as few as traditional – the canonical cult of their own infallibility, coupled with negligence in the game on the selection and a frivolous distribution of the number of throws and responsibilities among the players.
Here you and Bam Adebayo, broadcasting parachutes to the hoop, instead of guarding the rebound, and Kevin Durant, listlessly standing under the shield, simply because the current formation of players on the court obliges him to do this.

But no need to deceive, Popovich can still construct a fig in his pocket: a small five with Durant in the center, a mobile front line with Green and the same Durant looked very good in previous matches, and it is difficult to assess the real power of this US team before the start of the playoffs …
Yes, the Americans lost to France in the group stage debut, which they controlled in general, but then ruined Iran, rolled out the diligent Czech Republic and staged a memorial service for the great Spanish generation.None of the results, including defeat, were accompanied by any emotions, or any desire of the team to prove or disprove something. This US team is one of the most boring in my memory, and this impression can be changed not so much by a victory over Australia as by the course of the game itself.

And here, of course, all hope is for the Australians – bully, provocateurs and real warriors who know how to resist themselves and make rivals pull the latter out of themselves. There is no doubt that the Australians will go out of their way, the question is whether it will work out.
The loss of Aaron Baines due to injury greatly reduces the chances of the Australian team not only on the rebound, but also in the attack, where he did a lot of useful work, including screening for gains, pick-and-pops and other profit. Finally, the main creators of the team – Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova – have always had problems against athletic defenders in the NBA, and here they will be pressed by one of the best in this business – Jrue Holiday and less sophisticated, but capable of taking physics Lillard, Tatum , Booker.
The Australians, of course, will fight, but without Baines and against the USA it will be very difficult. But interesting.
France – Slovenia
An excellent poster not only because of the presence of big names, but because both opponents refuted stereotypes and changed throughout the tournament.
The Slovenes, after 48 points by Luka Doncic against Argentina, have already shown in the matches with Japan and Germany that they are not just a miracle boy alive. Zoran Dragic, Vlatko Chanchar, Mike Toby, Zhiga Dimets demonstrated that they did not come to Tokyo to wave their fan over Doncic. And it’s nice.
The French did not just take what was badly lying in the game against the United States, they dispelled skepticism about Fournier’s failed season, Batum’s age and Gobert’s limitations. After deducting a wild overpayment for Fournier from the Knicks globally, the future prospects of these players in the NBA will not be affected by the successes of the French, but as long as they are here, and it works.

The FIBA rules apply, according to which Gobert can throw banquets in a three-second round without getting out, smaller court sizes and a sprint tournament format work. All this plays into the hands of the age and not very agile France, which takes its experience and plowing in defense.
The duet of Gobert and Poirier, who crucified the Americans on their shields, seems to be not the most sophisticated, but very effective notion of Vincent Collet, which fits perfectly into the rhythm of this team. The “tricolors” very skillfully slow down the pace and slow down their rivals, making them believe that they will catch up with the French, and what they miss now will get into the next quarter. Quite an alarming marker for players like Doncic, who are not used to limiting themselves in shots.

90,000 Deck Guide Odd Quest Warrior Rastakhan’s Rumble
Hello, dear readers of the hs-manacost.ru portal!
Proof of taking the Legend from Draz
Meta Rastakhan’s merrymaking after nerfs is unstable, but one thing is clear: there are a lot of Hunters in it. The Odd Rogue, Zoolock and Tempo Rogue are also gaining popularity. Do you want to “counter” them all? Refer to Odd Warrior Quest from Zalae.
The assembly presented below was assembled by the American player Zalae, but others also played it: Firebat and Draz. The latter took the Odd Quest Warrior to the top-1 of Legends in the ladder after the nerfs.
“Took the top 1 of Legends with 87% win rate. Finished off the top-1 with the Odd Quest Warrior. The deck is a meta destroyer after nerfs. I saw the assembly on the Zalae stream before the nerfs “ Draz
If you have forgotten or do not know which cards the developers have nerfed and how, refer to for this material.
Nerfs
Odd Quest Warrior Deck from Zalae
Copy deck code
Deck of Odd Warrior Quest has powerful point and AoE removal tools used by all class archetypes: Brawl, Flurry of Wrath, Shield Bash, Supercollider, Explosivebot.
There is also a set of provocateurs familiar to the Warrior’s Quest: Ghost Militia, Defender of the Hills, Resin Guard and others.
Deck feature: packs of beasts for synergy with Ondasta and a set of onslaught threats for synergy with the City Herald. All this helps the Warrior to keep up with the pace and resources in hand.
Like all Quest Warriors, this one plans to win primarily with the help of Sulfuras, although this is not relevant in all match-ups – more on this below.
Alternative assembly
Skambo’s Odd Warrior
Copy deck code
If you don’t like the Odd Warrior Quest, you can try the classic Odd Warrior without a Crown of Fire Heart.Such a build does not have a proactive way to win, which is not very convenient, for example, against Hunters with a played Deathstalker Rexxar or combo decks.
The advantage of a Warrior without a quest is aggro match-ups.
Mulligan
- Warrior : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Phantom Militia.
- Paladin : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Defender of the Hills.
- Hunter : Leave Heart of Fire Crown, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Shield Slam, Explosivebot, Flurry of Wrath, Defender of the Hills, Supercollider.
- Druid : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Defender of the Hills.
- Rogue : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Shield Slam, Flurry of Wrath, Resin Guard, Supercollider. With a Coin or a good hand – Explosivebot.
- Shaman : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Flurry of Wrath, Defender of the Hills, Shield Block, Shield Slam.
- Mage : Leave the Heart of the Crown of Fire, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Shield Slam, Defender of the Hills, Shield Block, Resin Guard.
- Priest : Leave Heart of Fire Crown, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Shield Slam, Defender of the Hills.
- Warlock : Leave Heart of Fire Crown, City Herald, Phantom Militia, Flurry of Wrath, Explosivebot, Defender of the Hills, Shield Slam.
Strategy games
The main advantage of the Odd Warrior Quest over the classic versions of the Odd Warrior is the presence of a proactive way of winning in slow confrontations.
Now the Warrior can not defend himself to the point of fatigue and watch as Deathstalker Rexxar generates beasts, and combo decks are looking for a deadly combination. He himself is able to quickly finish the party in the later stages of the game due to the new hero power.
Therefore, Odd Quest Warrior is much better at dealing with Hunters in the form of Deathstalker Rexxar, most Priest decks, slow Warlocks, Mages and other archetypes. He is also strong in match-ups with other Warriors.
And even though Odd Quest Warrior is weaker than the classic Odd Warrior in aggro match-ups, this is not so critical in the current meta: fights with tempo Hunters, Odd Rogues and Zooloks are still quite profitable. And the sworn enemies of the Warrior Quest – Odd Paladin and Drygut Shaman – disappeared from the meta after the nerfs.
At the beginning of the game, the tasks of the Odd Quest Warrior are simple: play as many provocations as possible, prevent the enemy from gaining a foothold on the table with large forces and accumulate armor.Remember that the quest progresses only when you play the provocateur from your hand: if you summon a provocation by Undasta or other cards on the table, the Heart of the Crown of Fire will not get closer to completion.
The best card for completing the quest is the Phantom Militia. It is best played on the sixth or ninth turn, playing 2 and 3 copies through the echo. But in extreme cases, do not be afraid to put the Ghost Militia earlier – if there are no other options and the enemy is pressing, a 2/4 provocateur is better than nothing.
Any player of the Odd Quest Warrior should understand that Sulfuras and the updated hero power are not needed in every match-up.They are often weak in aggro match-ups, against Malygos Druid, Priest Control with Mind Blast, and in other duels in which your main resource is health, and it is much more important to accumulate armor than to deal damage.
By playing Sulfuras, you almost completely deprive yourself of a source of health and armor: only Zilliax and Shield Block will help in this. Provocateurs will protect you, but the enemy can remove them or even inflict lethal damage with spells and other sources.
Also try to spend Shield Slam and Flurry of Wrath before playing Sulfuras, as it will be very difficult to accumulate armor later. Also try to play Undasta before Sulfuras, because after that you will not be able to squeeze the key power of the hero along with Undasta.
When you have changed the strength of the hero, most often the best strategy is to get rid of the enemy’s creatures with allied creatures, weapons and removal, and attack the enemy hero with the power of the hero Ragnaros.
The Brawl helps, which is best reserved for the later stages of the game, and in the early stages, clear the table with a Flurry of Rage and an Explosivebot.
Conclusion
Odd Quest Warrior is an excellent control deck for the meta of Rastakhan’s merrymaking after nerfs. The archetype plays well with all Hunters except the deathrattle archetype, it is not afraid of aggro and most control decks.
Unprofitable match-ups – Odd Paladin, Druids, and Javelin Shaman – disappeared from the ladder, opening the way for the Odd Quest Warrior.
Share in the comments your results for or against this deck. Do you think it will gain a foothold in the meta and overtake other Warrior decks in popularity?
Thank you for your attention, good luck in Rastakhan’s merrymaking!
