How does the National Team Development Program work. What are the key phases of the NTDP selection process. Who is eligible to participate in the 2021 NTDP. Where will the regional tryouts be held.
Overview of the National Team Development Program
The National Team Development Program (NTDP) is an elite pathway designed by USA Lacrosse to nurture top high school lacrosse talent and prepare players for potential future participation on U.S. national teams. After a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NTDP is set to return in 2021 with an expanded reach and refined selection process.
The NTDP offers a unique opportunity for exceptional young lacrosse players to work directly with U.S. national team coaches and players. Through a series of rigorous evaluations and training sessions, participants gain invaluable experience and exposure to high-level coaching and competition.
The Three-Phase Journey of NTDP Selection
The NTDP selection process unfolds over three distinct phases throughout the calendar year:
- Regional Tryouts
- National Combines
- USA Select Team Formation
This comprehensive approach ensures that players are thoroughly evaluated and developed at each stage of the program.
Phase 1: Regional Tryouts
Regional tryouts serve as the entry point for aspiring NTDP participants. These one-day evaluation sessions last approximately two and a half hours and are designed to assess players’ technical and tactical skills in a fast-paced environment.
What can players expect during regional tryouts? The curriculum focuses on:
- Position-specific drills
- Team skills development
- 1v1 and 2v2 competitions
- Transition drills
- 6v6 gameplay situations
Evaluators closely observe participants, rating them on key attributes such as:
- Athleticism
- Stickwork
- Positional skill
- Game IQ
- Decision making
- On-field presence
Phase 2: National Combines
Following the regional tryouts, the top 150 boys and girls will be invited to attend national combines held at US Lacrosse headquarters in August. These combines provide a more intensive evaluation environment, allowing coaches to further assess players’ skills and potential.
Phase 3: USA Select Team Formation
The final phase of the NTDP process involves the selection of 22-player teams for both the USA Select U16 and U18 squads. These elite teams will showcase their talents at the Fall Classic in October, representing the pinnacle of youth lacrosse in the United States.
Expanded Reach: Partnering with Top Tournament Operators
For the 2021 NTDP, US Lacrosse has forged partnerships with five premier event operators to host regional tryouts in conjunction with established tournaments. This strategic move aims to increase accessibility and reach a wider pool of talented players across the country.
The partnering organizations include:
- Adrenaline
- NXT
- PrimeTime
- Summit Lacrosse Ventures
- Trilogy Lacrosse
Natalie Wills, senior manager of the National Team Development Program, expressed enthusiasm for these collaborations, stating, “We are thrilled to be working with these best-in-class tournament operators to deliver the 2021 NTDP regional tryouts. This year, we’re going to where the athletes are, and look forward to reaching as many USA hopefuls as possible this summer.”

National Team Development Program – USA Volleyball
A new way to identify and nurture talent…
Young volleyball athletes who want to take the next step on their path to the podium can now be part of the new USA Volleyball National Team Development Program (NTDP).
Launching this year, the NTDP will fully replace the USA Volleyball High Performance program. Since the 1990s, USAV High Performance has identified, evaluated, trained and developed young athletes to build a sustainable pipeline of future Olympians and Paralympians. Volleyball has flourished into the most popular high school team sport for girls and the fastest-growing high school sport for boys in the U.S.
The NTDP will increase the opportunities for athletes to be seen and evaluated and to develop within the USAV National Team system.
“As the popularity of volleyball continues to grow in the United States, USAV needs to grow with it,” USAV Chief of Sports Dr. Peter Vint said. “Throughout the past year, we have challenged the way we have done things and have worked toward a better and more robust system of identifying and developing athletes.”
The NTDP will be a fluid system with an athlete-centered focus that emphasizes the health, well-being and overall development of each individual player. Indoor, beach and sitting volleyball players will have increased opportunities to play with and against the best athletes from across the country and to learn from some of the best minds in the game.
“Aligning our National Team Development Program with the philosophies, methodologies and culture of our national teams is important to sustain competitive excellence in our sport,” U.S. Women’s National Team Assistant Coach / NTDP Senior Manager Erin Virtue said. “I am proud of our NTDP team for the research, time and passion it has put in throughout this difficult year. We have more work to do and we are excited to roll out these new initiatives in 2021.”
Age-group categories will begin with girls under-15 and boys under-16 with the oldest age groups for both genders being under-21. Athletes U15 and older may participate in the NTD Training Series held quarterly at locations across the country. A new series of local events called NTD Accelerators will offer athletes the chance to train against top competition in their area.
Younger athletes may participate in USAVplay. These single-session and summer-camp programs allow any athlete to participate in a development-focused training session.
There will not be tryouts for the NTDP. Athletes will be selected to NTDP training and competition via a nationwide scouting network. Scouts from around the country will be selected to identify athletes at qualifiers, bid events and high school/club tournaments across the United States.
More details will be made available, including information about upcoming training events, in early 2021. Questions can be emailed to [email protected].
17U National Team Development Program Identification Events
IDENTIFICATION EVENTS
In 2021, USA Baseball will utilize a rolling invitation process for the 16U/17U National Team Development Program participants. A minimum number of athletes will be identified for the NTDP through various USA Baseball identification events: the National Team Identification Series (NTIS), the 16U and 17U National Team Championships, and recommendations from professional scouts; college, high school and youth coaches; and the amateur baseball community. USA Baseball will publicize the final roster through a press release and/or post to USABaseball.com.
To be considered for the 16U/17U National Team Development Program, please email [email protected].
National Team Championships
The primary identification vehicle for the USA Baseball 16U/17U National Team Development Program is the 16U and 17U National Team Championships. To attend these events, players must compete for one of the teams invited to participate at either of the National Team Championship sites: Arizona or North Carolina. At the 2021 16U and 17U National Team Championships, USA Baseball staff and task force members will identify a minimum number of players for the 2021 16U/17U National Team Development Program.
Additional secondary events may be held throughout the year by USA Baseball at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, which may also be used to identify players for current or future National Team Development Programs.
National Team Identification Series (NTIS)
Players may also be selected for the following calendar year’s 16U/17U NTDP by competing in the NTIS. At the NTIS, USA Baseball Task Force members will identify a minimum number of 15U and 16U players for the following season’s 16U/17U NTDP.
About the National Team Development Program
Once at the 16U/17U National Team Development Program, players will participate in individual and team skill development sessions, various off-field educational seminars including guest speakers/instructors, and intrasquad Red vs. Blue games. USA Baseball will engage members of the professional and collegiate baseball community as well as USA Baseball alumni to serve as instructors and educators throughout the week.
The 16U/17U National Team Development Programs will be used to further connect identified athletes with USA Baseball staff to better prepare and develop the athletes for a future USA Baseball National Team experience.
Please contact [email protected] with any questions regarding the 2021 USA Baseball National Team Development Program selection process.

Why the Blackhawks like to draft players from USHL, US National Team Development Program
The Blackhawks have seven picks for the upcoming NHL Draft (Oct. 6-7), and history shows they will use one of those picks on a player from the USHL or United States National Team Development Program.
Chicago general manager Stan Bowman and vice president of amateur scouting Mark Kelley have used at least one pick on such a player every year since 2010, with 23.5 percent (20 of 85) of their picks on players who played in the USHL during their draft year. To narrow it down even more 45 percent (nine of 20) of those USHL players were from USNTDP. Just last year, the Blackhawks selected USNTDP defenseman Alex Vlasic in the second round to give them a third straight year selecting a player from the program.
(We detailed Bowman’s draft history last year, and added the six picks from the 2019 class to reach our findings.)
“The national development team is a priority only because these are the ‘elite of the elite of the U.S. kids,’” Kelley said Wednesday during a pre-draft video conference call. “Now there are some kids that chose not to go to the program, but the USHL, I think the attraction there is we like the development pattern of the USHL. These kids are going to be there for one or two years and then move on to college. We’re really looking at them in a four-year development cycle.”
Below is a list of all 20 players the Blackhawks drafted who played in the USHL during their draft year. There are some players not listed that played in the USHL prior to their draft year or only a handful of games during their draft year.
2010 — Stephen Johns (USNTDP/2nd), Nick Mattson (Indiana/6th)
2011 — Michael Paliotta (USNTDP/3rd), Alex Broadhurst (Green Bay/7th)
2012 — Vinnie Hinostroza (Waterloo/6th)
2013 — John Hayden (USNTDP/3rd), Tyler Motte (USNTDP/4th), Luke Johnson (Lincoln/5th), Anthony Louis (USNTDP/6th)
2014 — Nick Schmaltz (Green Bay/1st), Matheson Iacopelli (Muskegon/3rd), Fredrik Olofsson (Chicago/4th)
2015 — Dennis Gilbert (Chicago/3rd), Ryan Shea (Youngstown/4th)
2016 — Blake Hillman (Dubuque/6th), Jake Ryczek (Sioux City & Waterloo/7th)
2017 — Evan Barratt (USNTDP/3rd)
2018 — Jake Wise (USNTDP/3rd), Mikael Hakkarainen (Chicago/5th)
2019 — Alex Vlasic (USNTDP/2nd)
Eight of the players listed above that played in the USHL during their draft year have played NHL games for the Blackhawks: Clendening (four), Paliotta (one), Hinostroza (106), Hayden (113), Johnson (15), Schmaltz (162), Gilbert (22) and Hillman (four).
The Blackhawks’ first pick in this year’s draft is at No. 17 overall, and most prospect rankings see left-handed center Brendan Brisson from the Chicago Steel as the USHL player potentially available at that spot. Brisson, who is rated as high as No. 14 by Elite Prospects, scored 24 goals and 59 points in 45 games this past season to help the Steel win the Anderson Cup as regular season champions during the COVID-19 pandemic shortened season. The Michigan freshman is the son of NHL agent Pat Brission, who represents Blackhawks stars Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.
Steel right wing Sam Colangelo (Northeastern), USNTDP center Thomas Bordeleau (Michigan) and Muskegon left wing Daniil Gushchin (OHL Niagara) might also be options if they fall in the second round to the Blackhawks at No. 46 or the Blackhawks trade up. Steel center Sean Farrell, who will play in the USHL this season while taking online classes for Harvard, and USNTDP center Ty Smilanic (Quinnipiac) are ranked more in the Blackhawks’ range.

Program Description History
In 1979, the program expanded, the organization became more efficient and multi-year plans were developed. State Associations were encouraged to develop programs which supported and worked in tandem with National and Regional programs. At the beginning of 1982 a formalized program for girls was created, with the addition of a full committee (one member from each Region).
Current Organization
From 1982 until the present, international events for youth national teams have increased substantially and the US Youth Soccer ODP has kept pace by instituting trials and player pools for five age groups in the boys’ program, and five age groups in the girls’ program.
The US Youth Soccer ODP Selection Process
Each State Association holds ODP try-outs on an annual basis. Age Groups and try-out dates may be different from state to state, based on seasonal and state considerations. Your first contact should be to your State Association for try-out information.

90,000 FHR presented all sections of the National Program for the Training of Hockey Players “Red Machine”
On November 23 in Sochi, on the basis of the educational center “Sirius”, a presentation of the National Program for the Training of Hockey Players “Red Machine”: New Products and Sections took place. It presented theoretical manuals for young players of all ages – from 6 to 16 years old, a separate manual for the training of goalkeepers, as well as a new mobile application with video lessons – an online assistant in the work of a hockey coach.
The theoretical part of the conference was opened by the Head of Staff of the National Team, First Vice-President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Roman Rotenberg:
– The creation of the National Training Program is a breakthrough for all of us. There have been no such programs in the history of hockey Russia, and there are no other sports yet. Our program is advanced, even in comparison with the hockey federations of other countries.
We are very grateful to the Ministry of Sports, the Sirius educational center for the cooperation that allows us to develop.
Today we launched a mobile application that can now be downloaded from the Apple Store.
Our program is the ABC of hockey for those who practice it. Unified education standard. All coaches, parents, children can download it and study. It’s completely free.
More than 20 people worked on the program – this is our complex scientific group. When creating it, we studied the experience of our leading Soviet trainers, the developments of other countries and added our own.
Our program takes into account not only sports training, but also psychology, nutrition, communication with parents and teammates.Yes, this is a hockey program, but it provides an opportunity for bringing up a harmonious personality. Even if a player does not become a professional hockey player, he will be ready to interact with the world, to be a team player in life, – summed up Roman Rotenberg.
“We appreciated the model of work that the Russian Ice Hockey Federation got in order to focus on it in creating programs for both coaches and cultural figures,” said Elena Shmeleva, head of the Talent and Success Foundation. – It is very important when you can see how professionals work in different fields.Looking at the success of our hockey players, we can safely say that this model works. Previously, there were few opportunities to generalize the Soviet and Russian experience. I hope that Sirius has made a great contribution to the development and implementation of the Red Machine program, and it will be even greater due to the number of coaches who will come to us.
Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Sergey Kosilov set the FHR as an example in the development and implementation of training programs among all federations:
– In October last year, the concept for training a sports reserve in our country was approved. The preparation and implementation of standard training programs for all sports is provided. Thanks to this approach and attitude, which is demonstrated by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, the first swallow among such programs is NPH Krasnaya Mashina. It provides for the preparation of the reserve in a completely different capacity. We can safely expect that in the near future we will raise a new generation of Olympic champions.
For the first time the full version of the NPPH mobile application “Krasnaya Machine.Trainer”. It will significantly simplify the training process, help mentors diversify classes, and give pupils new exercises.
The conference was continued by the head coach of the Russian Olympic team, Oleg Bratash, who spoke in detail about the new program manual, completely devoted to the training of goalkeepers. Each of the participants in the presentation – coaches and teachers, hockey players training at Sirius – had the opportunity to ask questions of interest to speakers, as well as receive any relevant information.
The program continued with a master class. An open training session for young pupils of hockey schools in accordance with the standards of the NPPH “Red Machine” was conducted by the coaches of the Russian Olympic team Oleg Bratash and Nikolai Khabibullin, coach for the development of players of the FHR national teams Daniel Bochner and other specialists.
Roman Rotenberg: all the hockey players of the Russian national team play for their homeland with crazy dedication
The Russian ice hockey team won nine victories in nine matches of the current season of the Eurotour, guaranteeing itself the first place before the final stage of the tournament, which will be held from 13 to 16 May in Czech Republic. At the Swedish Games, Russian hockey players beat the teams of Finland (3: 2), Sweden (2: 1 in shootouts) and the Czech Republic (7: 4). The first vice-president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, head of the national team headquarters Roman Rotenberg in an interview with TASS summed up the team’s performance at the Swedish Games, and also spoke about the preparations for the World Championship in Riga and the Junior World Championship, which will be held in April in the United States.
– The Russian national team won all nine matches in the Eurotour and won the tournament ahead of schedule, how important and significant is such a result for you?
On this topic
– We do not look at this table, we go out to win every match. The result is always important, the score is on the scoreboard. We must thank the whole team for such a result. Thanks for the support to all fans. The guys felt that the whole country supported the Russian national hockey team. There was only one task – only to play to win.Nobody even thought about anything else. We played very well in the minority, did not concede a single goal in nine games. This is a very important component. Before the World Cup, we are honing our system of playing in the minority and in general. It should be noted the work of the players and the crazy dedication of the players and the coaching staff.
– What was the most difficult game in the tournament?
– We always have very difficult games with the Swedes, we won all three games by shootouts. This is a very serious rival, a very systematic team. The Czechs started very aggressively, they wanted to beat us. But our guys withstood the blow, did not succumb to provocations and played disciplined – this is the key to success. We won thanks to our ingenuity. What makes us different from other nations – we have our Russian ingenuity.
– The Russian national team won all three stages of the Eurotour, playing with practically different squads, does this indicate a good reserve in Russian hockey?
On this topic
– Yes, I agree. But here it is more important that all the guys who come to the national team play at their maximum. They give all their strength for the sake of the country, for the sake of the national team. Any team plays for their homeland with crazy dedication. It is impossible not to mention Alexander Samonov. The whole team of goalkeepers shows a very high level – this is good for us on the eve of the World Cup.
– What components of the game need to be worked on before the World Cup?
– We have something to work on, we are constantly working on details. We have a huge analytics system, work on errors, feedback.Hockey is a game of mistakes. Now we will analyze all the errors, a lot of work will be done. We will hone our game so that we will be in perfect condition for the World Cup in all components. We share the work of trainers in all areas. We want to be the best in every detail. In this tournament (Swedish Games), our weak point was the majority. Majority realization will be key in the World Cup. This is the component that we must strengthen. And we will strengthen it.
– Is there an understanding which of the participants in the Swedish Games can be included in the final stage of the Eurotour in the Czech Republic and the World Championship?
– The next stage of the Eurotour will be after the KHL (Continental Hockey League) playoffs. This will be the most important stage in the preparation for the World Cup. We constantly look at all the candidates, the trainers are in good shape every day. We are in touch and with all our players who are overseas, we proceed from the facts.
– Igor Larionov acted as the head coach of the Russian national team at two stages of the Eurotour and won six victories, can he strengthen the coaching staff at the World Cup?
On this topic
– Head coach Valery Nikolaevich Bragin is constantly in touch with us, we have constant radio communication with the team.We all work together. It’s too early to talk about any gains. At the Channel One Cup, our headquarters worked in the same lineup in which we plan to work at the World Championships. There may be some more detailed moments, we have completed this important cycle of preparation for the World Cup well and are moving on. The most important thing for us now is to win the U18 World Junior Championship.
– In this regard, how satisfied are you with the actions of 17-year-old Nikita Chibrikov at the Swedish Games?
– This is the player who will play in the junior world championship. We wanted him to play at the Eurotour and we got a good game from him. He scored a goal, made two assists, helped the team. Here is the connection between the national team and the junior team. We have a systematic approach. When we work according to our system, we achieve results.
– How will the preparation of the Russian national team for the junior world championship be organized and in what conditions will it be held?
– We will have training camp in Novogorsk. Dallas won’t have such a hard bubble as Edmonton.Today they allow people to go outside. There are even fans at Dallas’s NHL games. In this sense, the situation is better for us. At the youth world championship, everything was very difficult and tough in this regard. Psychologically, this was a difficult situation. Moreover, we did not play at home, but in Canada, there were a lot of details. The Canadians, as the owners, used the Edmonton Oilers hall, but we did not have such an opportunity. By the way, like the US team, which later won the tournament. We are now studying the details, in general the situation from the point of view of the organization looks better for us today than before the youth world championship. But we keep our finger on the pulse, the situation may change.

Today, August 20, 2012, President of Russia Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with members of the Russian Paralympic team, which will take part in the XIV Paralympic Games in London on August 29 – September 9 this year. The meeting took place in the Andreevsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace. Vladimir Putin wished success to the Paralympic athletes and confirmed that the authorities will continue to pay increased attention to supporting the Paralympic movement. “The state intends to continue to pay close attention to the development of paralympism,” Putin said. “Every step you have passed, every success deserves deep respect, and we will always support you, cheer for you with all our hearts.” Russian Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko , President of PKR Vladimir Lukin , Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov , Chief of Mission of the Russian Paralympic team Pavel Rozhkov took part in the farewell ceremony in the Kremlin. After the farewell ceremony in the Kremlin, the Paralympians went to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where they were received by the first vicar Archbishop Arseny, and the Paralympians – Muslims – to the Mosque, where the athletes were received by the First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Sheikh Ravil Gainutdinov Harif Hazrat. Transcript of the speech of the President of Russia VLADIMIR PUTIN : Good afternoon, dear friends, the opening of the XIV Paralympic Summer Games is approaching. And today, here in the Kremlin, we are solemnly escorting our national team to these competitions. We see it off, of course, believing that the performances of our athletes will be traditionally bright and productive, that you will worthily represent our country at this largest start of the fourth year. To participate in the main competitions is a cherished dream and a great honor for every athlete. And it is obvious that the struggle will unfold serious, the competition will be fierce. I am sure that everyone who has gathered in this hall is ready for this fight. We see how rapidly the Paralympic movement is developing, how the number of participants in the competitions grows year after year, and how the program becomes more complicated.Suffice it to recall that at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, world records were updated over three hundred times. And it is gratifying that almost every second Russian athlete won a prize. Every second! I emphasize that the performances of our Paralympic team are becoming more and more effective. But this is not only a reason to be proud of you, but, of course, to emphasize the need for both Paralympic athletes and all people with disabilities who want to play sports, to provide support. Today I want to stress once again: the state intends and will do this.As you know for sure, we have a corresponding program for the development of sports, there is a part that is related to people with disabilities. Of course, for high-level athletes like you, something has been done recently, I think you notice this, but in general, of course, we still have a lot of problems. We plan to reach a level at which approximately 10 percent of people with disabilities will be involved in sports by 2015, and 20 percent by 2020.Today it is only about one and a half percent. Of course, this is unacceptably small, but, and I want to emphasize this, your example is definitely the case when a good example is contagious. It affects the motivation for millions of other people to go in for sports, self-development, not to be isolated in oneself. I am sure that your bright performances at the Paralympic Games will also contribute to solving this problem, and you will be a good example for millions of other people. I note that support for Paralympic sports is an integral part of our common great work to solve the problems of citizens with disabilities. to create a truly comfortable, accessible, barrier-free environment for a fulfilling life, for the development of personal and creative potential.I am convinced that the task of intensive development of the Paralympic movement is of enormous importance. His humanistic principle can play an irreplaceable role in educating people, especially young people, social and moral responsibility and maturity. Through sports, unique examples of personal courage and willpower of our athletes allow us to affirm the principles of equal, worthy opportunities for all citizens. Dear friends, you know like no one that any big, worthwhile business requires tremendous work and perseverance that all problems cannot be solved overnight. But we are ready to act persistently and consistently, to more actively involve the regions and local authorities in the work. And we hope for your participation, for your positive experience in the ability to achieve your goal. I will repeat once again that your example inspires and gives hope to millions of people. Its meaning and effectiveness are consistently high. Improving yourself, your sports skills, you do not just overcome age-old stereotypes – you open new horizons, show true courage, prove the superiority of spirit and character over circumstances. Each step you have passed, each success deserves special attention and respect. And we will always support you, warmly, with all our heart we will root for you, and not only in London, but also at all other starts and competitions. You, without exaggeration, deserve such attention, and I want you to know: millions of people will closely watch the progress of these competitions in London on TV screens. I sincerely and from the bottom of my heart wish you success! Thank you very much for your attention.

The KHL All-Star Game brought together the most influential figures of Russian hockey in the stands in Kazan. Among them, the first vice-president of the FHR and St. Petersburg SKA, the head of the headquarters of the Russian national team, Roman Rotenberg, also visited the capital of Tatarstan. In an interview with Izvestia, the functionary assessed the work of the head coach of the national team Ilya Vorobyov and the chances of continuing the victorious Olympic streak after last year’s triumph in Pyeongchang, spoke about the format of cooperation between Oleg Znark and the federation and the construction of the world’s largest ice arena in St. Petersburg, and also commented NHL decision not to host the 2020 World Cup.
– How would you rate the organization of the current All-Star Game?
– Kazan is a real hockey and sports center. We have been looking at them for 10 years and we understand that the local organization of the process can be used as an example. A huge number of ice rinks (43 operating and three under construction), work in children’s hockey, the implementation of educational programs – all this is admirable. The all-star match is also organized at a high level. It’s great that the events of the Week of Hockey Stars were distributed across several cities of Tatarstan – they were held not only in Kazan, but also in Nizhnekamsk and Almetyevsk. The region has very serious hockey traditions, so a high spectator interest in Kazan was ensured. Moreover, the city has a successful team “Ak Bars” – a three-time winner of the Gagarin Cup. The work of Tatarstan is highly respected. The head of the republic Rustem Minnikhanov pays great attention to hockey. God grant that in the future we will have the same number of ice rinks in all regions. This will be an impetus for the development of hockey.
– This republic has its own hockey development program. Did FHR take something from it for its program, which was approved last year?
– In Tatarstan, the program was formed in parallel with ours.We cooperated and to some extent our development programs are similar. But from the point of view of legislation and the standard of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the FHR program is approved as basic. But, of course, we are working very closely with Tatarstan within the framework of the program. We always take into account the positive developments of any region. The theoretical part of the program is already ready – it will be fully implemented in the field within a year. But the most important part is practical. It needs infrastructure. Therefore, programs for the construction of ice rinks are now being actively approved at the state level. And it is important when there is an example within Russia. We do not need to talk about foreign experience, although we are also studying the work of our colleagues in Finland, Sweden, the USA and Canada. But what you already have in your country is much easier to adapt to our conditions everywhere.
– There will be no World Cup in the NHL in 2020. And this will probably lead to a lockout. FHR and SKA will prepare for this situation?
– We know the situation. We communicate with both the NHL and the NHL trade union. It’s bad when such tournaments are canceled, where we can draw on serious experience for the development of our players. When the 2016 World Cup was held in Toronto, we got a lot of experience, which we used to win the Olympics. In terms of development and competition, the cancellation of the World Cup is a very negative moment. But this is not our decision – we have nothing to do with it. It has to do with commerce and the relationship between the NHL and its union. We continue to focus on our own development, training of national teams of the FHR system. We have a four-year strategy for preparing for the 2022 Beijing Olympics. As for the lockout, we will act according to the situation. If a lockout happens – we will react, it will not happen – how to proceed is even more clear.
– Can the four-year strategy change depending on the participation of NHL players in the Beijing Olympics?
– We were asked the same questions before the Olympics in Korea. We have a training program for hockey players. We are working on it. If the NHL participates, it’s good. It will not be – too good. We are ready for any scenario. The same as before the Korean Olympics.
– How would you rate the performance of the Russian youth team at the MFM in Vancouver?
– I think this team definitely deserved to win gold. There is something to work on, but we won a medal again and remain in the top. Bronze is a good result, which appeared as a result of the hard work of hockey players, the coaching and administrative staff of the youth team. But we always work for maximum achievements – winning every match and tournament.
– In what format will Oleg Znarok cooperate with FHR as a consultant for national teams? Will he go to the April Junior World Championships in Sweden?
– This issue is decided according to the situation. If there is a need for this, and the coaching staff decides to distribute functions in this way, we agree to such cooperation. If the situation does not require it, we refuse this option. There are different options for consultation. The format is determined by the head coach and his staff. Now it is very important to prepare the U-18 team for the World Cup, taking into account the quality of the players and the strategy of the FHR. But it is the coaches who will decide in what combination to work. Including on the issue of attracting Oleg Valerievich.
– That is, the trip of Oleg Znark to Vancouver with the “youth” – a personal decision of Valery Bragin?
– This was not a personal decision of Bragin, but a general decision of the headquarters.People agreed that the MFM in Vancouver needed just such a distribution of functions. And they worked in accordance with this plan.
– Ilya Vorobyov and Anvar Gatiyatulin withstand a double load in the national team and SKA?
– Yes. And Alexey Zhamnov too – he works for Spartak and for the national team. This is the approach when the coach works in conditions of daily contact with the players. When he is at a distance with them, it becomes more difficult. Hockey requires constant contact with players and staff.Coaching is about the same as playing. If a hockey player does not play for a month, he will appear on the ice in a different form. Also with the coach. If he does not have the opportunity for daily practice, then he loses the skill. Therefore, our coaches work every day – this applies not only to the main team. And this gives the result. Along with the result, an important part of the work is the development of the players. And we have the opportunity to develop them in order to get performers of the level of the national team. Now the coaching staffs are doing their job.Yes, they have a huge load, but it helps hockey players to develop both at the level of the club and at the level of the national team. But the national team is always a priority.
– How is the work on the new arena in St. Petersburg progressing? Is its construction related to the city’s right to host the 2023 World Cup?
– Linked. We presented the arena at the IIHF congress and showed it to Rene Fasel. And we got the right to host the World Cup, taking into account the fact that we will have a new infrastructure in the city. Now the process is underway – we are moving in accordance with the roadmap. Everything is going according to schedule. And contact with the new city administration has been established – we talked with the acting governor Alexander Beglov, discussed the plan for the construction of the arena and made sure that all agreements were in force.
– If St. Petersburg gets the right to host the KHL All-Star Game in the coming seasons, can it take place at the Gazprom Arena?
– All this needs to be discussed. Collecting 68 thousand for a hockey game is a serious task.It was solved in two December matches, but completely filling the football arena for the All-Star Game will be an even bigger challenge. If it will be within a week, as we did in the case of the Channel One Cup and the KHL, when several meetings take place, followed by the All-Star Game schedule, it will be possible to think about the concept and format in which the event will have a sporting interest. Then people will be interested in it.
– By analogy with the JHL Challenge Cup, which is played as part of the Hockey Stars Week?
– Yes, something like that.It might be worth organizing a prize fund for the event participants. It is necessary to interest the audience so that the hockey players perform in full force. Then it will be possible to assemble a football stadium.

90,000 Germany already knows its roster for the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Germany already knows its roster for the 2018 World Cup
In the vast country of the formerly planned economy, they groan that there are not enough cool players. And the bicycle, meanwhile, was invented long ago. In Germany, 15 years ago, a program for the development of national football was adopted, thanks to the implementation of which the national team amazes with a constant and abundant influx of young people, while achieving high results.
GERMAN REGISTRATION
Michael Onning, who in 2004 was an assistant to Dick Advocaat in Borussia Mönchengladbach, spoke about some aspects of this program. He later worked as a second and head coach at Nuremberg and Hamburg.Recently Onning is an expert on Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of his coaching career, he helped Horst Hrubesch in the youth and youth teams in Germany. Among his charges were recent Dynamo Kuranyi and Spartak Tuski.
“I followed the statistics of their performances in Russia,” a German specialist told me. – I do not lose hope to see Tuska in Moscow, although due to the forthcoming departure of “Spartak” for the training camp in Switzerland, this may not be possible.
“When West Germany won the World Championship in Italy in 1990, I thought no one could beat us for a long time,” Onning said during a lecture for the students of the RMA business school, which was attended by the SE correspondent. – The country had a very strong team. In addition, in that year, the unification of Germany took place, and such footballers from the GDR as Sammer and Ton joined the team. However, two years later, Denmark defeated us in the final of the European championship, having entered the tournament by accident, as a substitute for Yugoslavia. Then our team performed unsuccessfully at two world championships in a row, and did not even leave the group at Euro-2000. In the interval, however, she won Euro -96, but she did it through collective action – there were no stars in that team (in fact, an extremely controversial opinion, Sammer, Klinsmann, Hessler played – Approx. AP). In a word, at a certain moment the German national team, which has always belonged to the strongest in the world, had difficulties. And then the German Football Association announced: “This will not work.Compared to the 70s and 80s, the national team is losing ground. We need to pay attention to the training of young people. ”
In 2000, the union gathered the coaches of the national teams and distributed assignments. After the analysis of the state of affairs was carried out, a search for talent began throughout the country, starting from a very young age.
The program was time consuming and costly. But it paid off! Now in Germany, about 7 million people are somehow connected with football.Only referees serving matches in 12 leagues, 70 thousand.
Some parents began to send their children to football from the age of three or four! In the youth team that is now participating in the final tournament of the European Championship in the Czech Republic, many began to play football at a preschool age.
Each professional club has teams of different ages. Moreover, 19-year-olds and 17-year-olds hold their championships in parallel with the Bundesliga – the same clubs are represented in their tournaments. From next season, the same will be done for 15-year-olds. The younger ones compete at the regional level, and then the best teams come to the final tournaments.
Previously, it was believed that until 20-21 years old it is very difficult to get into the Bundesliga team, now players who are 18-19 years old play in it. Moreover, some even think that if they did not get their chance before the age of 20-21, then they will not become a high-level player.
TEAM COMPOSITION FOR A FEW YEARS AHEAD
Remembering how we are touched when a young man who is already over twenty makes his debut in the club, I asked if Onning thinks that young people are more boldly trusted in Germany? Indeed, in the Bundesliga, the percentage of foreign players is about the same as in Russia – a little less than half of the total number of players.
“I think this is due to the fact that we have scouts closely watching young footballers from a young age, the development of the players is documented, and the coaches know who is capable of what,” he replied. – We already know roughly who will be, say, the left-back of the national team in a few years. Although due to the large number of foreigners, sometimes separate problems arise. So, it turned out that there are few central defenders among the Germans. After that, they began to intensively prepare the players for this position. As for trust, the sooner a player starts to get serious practice, the stronger he will be later. Yes, he can make a mistake, but by giving him a chance, the coach will benefit in the future. In addition, the fans are more enthusiastic about supporting the team, which has more of its own guys.
… Scouts are looking for talented children even among preschoolers, then they are looking for older boys and girls in small settlements – women’s football is also popular in Germany. Previously, searches were conducted spontaneously, but now almost everyone knows about teenagers aged 12-13.Each is under surveillance.
Coaches of children’s and youth teams even fill out individual forms indicating how the player spent the beginning, middle and end of the lesson, what the weather was like, and what state the field was in. After the match – analysis of actions with the ball and without the ball, in defense and in attack, whether the player adhered to team tactics.
After the lecture, I ask a German specialist: “Is it possible that a single form has been developed for these forms?” This is back to the USSR (or, probably, the GDR)!
“The German Football Association has issued recommendations to the clubs, but they themselves have the right to decide in what form to monitor the players, especially since everyone has their own style,” said Onning.- But all the players are under control, and we already now, for example, know that we have an extremely good generation of guys born in 1996-1997, which will progress.
There is continuity. Six of the youth team that won the European championship in 2009 became world champions five years later. These are Neuer, Hevedes, Hummels, Boateng, Khedira and Ezil. And also Ebert from Spartak played in that team.
LICENSE BREADS
It is important not only to find talent, but also to transfer it into good hands.
This is why the UEFA coaching license system is strictly adhered to in Germany. You can’t pass an exam for beautiful eyes or a big name. Although former professional footballers enjoy benefits – they do not start at the foot of the pyramid, but with a category B license. Next come the A category and the Pro category, which is required to work in two professional divisions.
It is curious, however, that in Germany the “gingerbread” system was also developed. So, if a coach gets a license, the club is entitled to a bonus from the German Football Association. Thus, the club is interested in people learning.
And for those holding a Category B license, income from football is not taxed. You can, as Onning put it, teach music and coach an amateur team in a regional league at your leisure. Such additional income is very attractive, in particular, for students.
GERMANY WAS NOT ADJUSTED FOR HOME WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Many questions to Onning were asked by the students of the Faculty of Management in Team Sports of the RMA, so the meeting lasted four and a half hours. The guest, in particular, was asked whether the adoption of the football development program in 2000 was dictated by the fact that in six years Germany was to host the World Cup?
“I don’t think these events were connected,” came the reply. – Yes, and not so far we went by 2006. Germany organized a great tournament, but she did not win it, finishing in 3rd place. When she was 3rd again in 2010, she looked much stronger. Even then, Germany was worthy of the title. Finally, in 2014, they managed to win it – and everyone realized the fruits of the work done.
If you are just now taking up the reform, then your team will not be the first in 2018. True, there will be a chance to perform better in 2022. It is necessary for the people who occupy leadership positions in football to sit down and seriously talk about what needs to be done. By the way, Russian football is very similar to German: it also focuses on collective action.
It is believed that in such clubs as “Spartak” or CSKA, there are good schools, but, alas, there are no great results. This is explained by both the lack of trust in young Russians and the unjustifiably high salaries.
If there are no results, then the academy is still not very good. And what about earnings? In Germany, 15-16 year olds are paid very little. It shouldn’t be otherwise. Making too much money at a young age is detrimental. At the same time, a professional footballer earns so much for the rest of his life.
In Germany, there are cases when wealthy parents pay coaches to include their son in the squad, and that, thus, is “exposed”?
We have absolutely no corruption in this area.Everyone, whether he is from a poor family or a rich one, gets his chance. This equality of opportunity is highly regarded in Germany. And in the absence of the proper abilities, a football player still has no chance of getting to the top, and parents understand this.

Sports
Today, the Republic of Dagestan is one of the leading sports regions of the country, a center for training a sports reserve for the Russian national teams in martial arts, as evidenced by the achievements of Dagestan athletes achieved at the championships and championships of Russia, Europe and the world, and, in particular, at Olympic Games in recent decades. The countdown of the performances of Dagestan athletes at these major starts of the four-year period begins in 1960. 62 athletes participated in them, 11 of whom represented foreign countries. During this time, they won 21 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Our fellow countrymen made a particularly significant contribution to the history of world sports at the last three Olympics, where they won 16 medals of various denominations. And these results were increasing. If in Sydney and Athens they each had three gold medals, then in Beijing and London – one more.Pupils of the Dagestan school of freestyle wrestling and boxing, playing for other states, brought glory to such powers as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Macedonia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Nowadays, Dagestan has been given priorities in four sports disciplines – freestyle wrestling, boxing, judo and taekwondo, where we are leaders in Russia, and where we are counting on training high-class masters – future Olympians.
In the last two decades, eastern types of martial arts have been actively developing in the republic. In kickboxing, Thai boxing, wushu sanda, karate, our athletes are unmatched not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders. In fights without rules, mixed martial arts, Dagestan fighters are the best in the world sports qualifications and ratings, practically no more or less significant tournament on the planet can do without them. And there is not a single day without fights and fights with the participation of Dagestani athletes, who, as a rule, set the tone in any of these sports, on the all-Russian TV channel “Fighter”, which broadcasts around the clock. All these achievements and successes did not come by accident. Since ancient times, Dagestan has been famous for its heroes and physically healthy people, strength and dexterity have always been valued here. The highlanders, who had been pursued for several centuries by endless wars and conflicts, had to get used to any changes in the social order, to be ready to repulse the enemy, to adapt to the harsh climatic conditions. In a word, the harsh reality forced our ancestors to survive, where there was nothing without physical conditioning, dexterity and the ability to win, and to think about how to save our life, the life of our loved ones and relatives. This gene pool, laid down by tens of generations of people, continues to affect to this day. The ability to stand up for oneself, the ability to gain the upper hand over an opponent, the ability to fight to the end is in the blood of today’s generation of Dagestanis, this is what distinguishes them from those wishing to fight them with forces in the country and abroad.
At the end of the 50s, freestyle wrestling began to develop rapidly in the republic. Before that, Greco-Roman wrestling and sambo were popular with us, but with the advent of Ali Aliyev, the priorities changed. In 1959, yesterday’s first-class guy, a guy from the village of Chokh, unexpectedly for many specialists, conquered the USSR and the world championship, and after the future star of the first magnitude, thousands and thousands of boys were drawn to the sports sections, wishing to repeat the path of their idol. Ali Aliyev was the first on the planet to be awarded the title of five-time world champion, won nine times at the USSR championships, became a prominent specialist in the field of medicine, chairman of the State Sports Committee of the Republic of Dagestan. As a sign of respect for his sporting deeds, by the decision of the International Federation of Amateur Wrestling (FILA), a monument to Ali Aliyev was erected at the headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland). For more than 50 years, Dagestan has been a forge of freestyle wrestling cadres known throughout the planet. The republic has given the world 21 champions of the Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympics, 61 winners of world championships and championships, 91 winners of European championships and championships. In March 2011, the World Cup in freestyle wrestling was held in the beautiful Ali Aliyev Sports Palace in the city of Kaspiysk, which today is one of the best in the North Caucasus Federal District. According to experts, the World Cup in Dagestan by the level of organization was recognized as the best tournament for the entire period of this event. In Dagestan, two major international freestyle wrestling tournaments are held annually, in Makhachkala – in memory of Ali Aliyev, who traces its history since 1970, and in Khasavyurt, where the memorial to the memory of Shamil Umakhanov was held 14 times, which grew into the Intercontinental Cup in freestyle wrestling, for which the fifth the most titled athletes from near and far abroad come together for a year in a row.
Dagestan is also known as a center for the development of boxing. A whole galaxy of outstanding masters of the leather glove has been trained in our republic, but the example of Nurmagomed Shanavazov, the best boxer in Europe in 1985, the winner of the Goodwill-86 Games, the silver medalist of the 88 Olympics in Seoul, attracted many people who wanted to engage in this sport to the ring. But it took another 15 long years for it to become clear how strong our positions are in the world table of ranks and how far we have moved forward to declare ourselves loudly. At the turn of the 20th century in 2000, three Dagestanis defended the colors of the national team at the Sydney Olympics. Two of them – Gaidarbek Gaidarbekov and Sultan Ibragimov – were awarded silver medals, and Kamil Jamaludinov won a bronze medal. Four years later, in Athens, Gaidarbek Gaidarbekov, for the first time among the Dagestani boxers, climbed the gold Olympic podium. Then there were three more first places at the European Championship in Sofia, Ali Aliyev, Albert Selimov, Artur Beterbiev, the titles of the strongest athletes in the world Timur Gaidalov, Sultan Ibragimov, Albert Selimov and Artur Beterbiev and the recognition of Beterbiev as the best boxer in Europe and the world in 2010.
Currently, Dagestan boxers continue to shine not only in the amateur ring, but also among professionals. A series of brilliant victories among heavyweights was marked by Sultan Ibragimov, who became the world champion among the luminaries of the leather glove according to the WBO (2007-2008).In his footsteps are Magomed Abdusalamov, who knocked out opponents 18 times in 18 fights, and Khabib Allahverdiev, who became the professional IBO and WBA world champion.
Girls follow in the footsteps of men. Aizanat Hajiyeva from the village of Sulak became the first mountain woman to try on a bronze medal at the World Championship. Her compatriot Elena Vystropova was the first at the national championship. In October 2010, another Dagestan athlete Saida Hamidova from the village of Pervomayskoye, Kayakent region, returned from France from the European Championship among juniors with the highest award of the tournament. The victorious tradition in women’s boxing was continued by Zenfira Magomedalieva, who became the champion, and Abdulaeva Saadat, who became the silver medalist of the 2013 Russian Championship.
Since the 70s, since the time of Abdula Barkalaev, the champion of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, judo has received a wide registration in Dagestan. We had champions and prize-winners of the USSR and Russia, winners of many international tournaments, participants in the Olympics. Magomed Jafarov, the champion of the World Universiade, winner of the bronze medal of the World Championship, was the first from Dagestanis to break into the elite of world judo. But other tatami stars could not keep up with our individual stars, there was no systematic approach in the preparation of the qualification reserve. Now these obstacles have also been removed. The good work of the Makhachkala, Kizilyurt and Derbent coaches have yielded tangible shoots in recent years. We have the first European champion 2010, Sirazhudin Magomedov. The national judo teams of the country include nine people. The head coach of the Russian national team, Enzo Gamba, visited our republic on the eve of the XXX Summer Olympic Games 2012.after which, he said that the Dagestanis are ready to compete at the Olympics, and perhaps not even one athlete, but several, as evidenced by the ever-increasing skill of the Dagestan judokas. His words became prophetic at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, two Dagestani athletes Tagir Khaibulaev and Mansur Isaev won gold medals.
Recently, more and more opportunities have been opening up for representatives of the republic’s taekwondo. Once this type of martial arts was not included in the Olympic discipline, but with its inclusion in the program of the Games in 2004, it began to rapidly develop around the world.Russia is no exception, where this sport is successfully cultivated in 67 regions. Dagestani athletes from the day of the birth of taekwondo in their homeland, have come to the fore, which to this day are not going to concede to anyone. We have excellent coaching staff, experienced athletes are in the ranks, and a worthy replacement for famous masters is being prepared. The most titled master of the country, Seyfulla Magomedov, a two-time medalist of the world championships and a four-time European champion, has been trained in Dagestan. So far, his result is the best among all Russian taekwondo fighters.Today the Russian national team is one of the strongest in Europe. However, at the World Championships and the Olympic Games, things are not going well for her, we are inferior to a number of states in many respects. Perhaps the time has come for young people who could press the stars of the first magnitude on the sports Olympus. Such a bright talent is now Aliaskhab Sirazhev, who at the age of 16 became a two-time winner of the youth championship of Russia and the best in Europe, a silver medalist of the world championship among juniors. The last success of the Dagestani is the second place at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. And also Haji Umarov, who is the 2012 Russian champion, the silver medalist of the World Olympic qualifying tournament, which allowed him to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in London.
Armsport is another kind of sport where the spirit is captured by the outstanding achievements of our strongmen, who have dominated the world among hand-wrestling masters for more than a decade. Just think: 59 world champions and 34 European champions have been trained only in Dagestan! And all this thanks to the unique school created by its creator, outstanding coach Hasan Alibekov. Our famous mentor was twice recognized as the best coach in the world, dozens of his students continue the work of their teacher, supporting and strengthening the glory of Russian and Dagestan armwrestling. Fans of armwrestling in our country and abroad are well aware of our fellow countrymen, multiple champions of the world and Europe.
A new round of football’s revival emerged in 2010 after FC Anji won the right to participate in the Premier League of Russian football. Ten years ago, the leading club of the republic entered the four best teams in the country, a year later it took part in the Russian Cup final, played in the UEFA Cup.However, those conditions were not supported either materially or organizationally. In fact, since 2003, FC Anji began to fight again to enter the elite of Russian football and achieved its goal.
Today the club is going through far from the best times, only at the finish of the championship did it manage to retain the right to play in the top division of Russian football in the new season. Realizing that the level of progress of this game does not correspond to its current state in the country, the republic has adopted a program for the development of football until 2020.It provides for many measures to support FC Anji, improve the material and technical base of football, expand the geography and develop the mass character of the most popular sport in the world.
The first step in this regard was the construction and commissioning of a sports center in Kaspiysk and the creation on its basis in 2013 of the Olympic Reserve School in football, in which 60 young football players study and improve their skills. Taking into account the existing sports bases in Makhachkala, Khasavyurt, Kaspiysk and other districts and cities of the republic, where work has been established with the preparation of a reserve for teams of masters, there is a hope that the new center will give an even greater replenishment of high-class masters to the best clubs in Dagestan.Returning to the topic of the development of martial arts, more precisely, to Thai boxing, wushu-sanda, kickboxing, karate, armwrestling, sambo, MMA (mixed martial arts), 396 gold medals have been won at the Russian championships over two decades, Dagestanis have returned home 48 times from the European championships triumphant tournaments, at the world championships 61 times athletes climbed to the highest step of the podium.
These achievements were forged not in modern complexes or specialized halls, but practically from scratch – in adapted rooms, basements, school gyms. However, these problems are typical for the entire sports movement in Dagestan. In terms of the number of sports facilities, the republic significantly lags behind other regions of the country: we have two times less of them than in the overwhelming majority of Russian districts. And just over the past 10 years, a large-scale development of sports infrastructure has begun in the mountainous region, 129 facilities built within the framework of republican target programs and extra-budgetary funds have been commissioned. Such active construction of sports facilities in the southernmost region of Russia has not been observed for the last 20 years.A special place in terms of scale and importance among them is occupied by the Sports Palace. A.Aliyev in the city of Kaspiysk for 5,500 seats, the Trud stadium in the city of Makhachkala, sports complexes in the villages of Khunzakh, Madzhalis, Levashi, Mekegi, Karabudakhkent, Babayurt, Buglene, Urada, Burgimak, Sogratla, Tsurib, Khosrehe, Gergebil, the cities of Khasavyurt, Kizilyurt.
The most important task of the current state policy is to strengthen the health of the population by means of physical culture and the development of mass sports among all categories of citizens.Much is being done in this regard in the republic, but still more needs to be done. So, at the beginning of 2010, there were 205 thousand people actively involved in physical culture, or about 7.6 percent of the total population of the republic. At present, as of December 31, 2013, the number of those who are systematically engaged is 13.0%. The industry is facing the challenge of bringing this figure to 26% by 2020.
In addition, in the draft republican target program “Development of mass physical culture and sports in the Republic of Dagestan for 2014-2020”, it is planned to build 81 sports and recreation centers and reconstruct 13 sports facilities, purchase 1,500 sports towns, and build 20 football fields with artificial turf.Strengthening the material and technical base of physical culture and sports in the Republic of Dagestan will create an effective management system for the development of physical culture and sports in the republic, improve the legal and regulatory framework, promote the development of mass physical culture and sports, elite sports and training of the sports reserve.
