Best Cordless Drill & Impact Buying Guide
A cordless drill is the most essential power tool you’ll buy. It’s the one you’ll rely on for big projects, such as building a deck and remodeling a kitchen, and for smaller tasks, like installing fixtures and assembling furniture. You might even need your drill to service other tools.
Most cordless drills these days run on lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, which deliver more power and longer run times in a lighter package than before. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, Li-ion batteries have improved so much over the past decade that a newer drill might run 50 percent longer than a drill from seven years ago.
Many of today’s cordless drills also benefit from a motor makeover. Not long ago, brushless motors (as opposed to the more prevalent brushed variety) were reserved for contractor-oriented brands such as DeWalt, Makita, and Milwaukee, but now they’re available in modestly priced consumer drills from the likes of Kobalt, Porter-Cable, and Ridgid.
Unlike brushed motors that run at the same rate whether you’re drilling into a softwood, such as pine, or a hardwood, like oak—thereby draining the battery—brushless motors adjust to the level of resistance they encounter and use up less energy. Plus, they operate with less friction than brushed motors, allowing them to work more efficiently. They also have fewer moving parts, and because there are no brushes, you never need to think about replacing them.
Improved motors and battery life has consistently elevated brand performance in CR’s ratings, which now include impact drivers. Impact drivers are extremely powerful, compact tools that drive screws more efficiently into wood, metal, and cement than traditional cordless drills, making them a popular choice for heavy duty jobs like building decks or home improvements.

Cordless drill reviews: The only buyer’s guide You need.
From fine woodworking to heavy-duty constructions, power drills can make just about any task much easier. The fact that they can be adapted to most tasks (using bits) also makes them highly versatile, something that has only improved with the advent of a cordless drill. It’s safe to say that these are an absolute must-have for any toolbox, which means you’ll be looking forward to purchasing one if you haven’t already done so. Since these tools come in many different varieties, it’s very important that you know what to consider when reading various reviews.
Brushless VS a Brushed Motor
In both brushed and brushless motors, magnets are what produce the rotary motion of the shaft. The means of power delivery is what sets apart these two types, with the former utilizing carbon brushes for this task. The latter make use of internal circuitry to create a revolving magnetic field, which effectively eliminates the need for brushes.
Mode of operation aside, the most important point to note is that brushless motors are more efficient and more powerful than their brushed counterparts. Drills that rely on these motors also tend to produce less friction and heat when in use. Still, drills with brushed motors are usually cheaper, which is something you’ll want to consider if you’ll be using yours for minimally-intensive tasks.
Read our in-depth article on Brushed vs Brushless – to understand why it’s important to buy brushless drills.
RPM and Torque
Short for rotations per minute, the RPM figure is what indicates the maximum speed achievable by a particular drill. Most low-end models provide at least 2 options here (usually 300 rpm and 800 rpm) plus a slide switch to allow users select low or high speed. These are best suited for light-duty tasks, but torque must also be taken into account when comparing speeds.
Torque refers to the rotary turning force of the device. Basically, the more torque a drill has, the better its ability to drill into hard surfaces. Choose low speed drills if this is what you have in mind, or those on the higher side of the RPM scale if you’ll mostly be boring holes.
Clutch
Also known as torque selector, this feature minimizes the likelihood of overdriving or snapping screws. More specifically, the clutch is what disengages the drive shaft when a certain level of resistance is attained. While most cordless drills have an adjustable clutch, the number of settings available varies across models. Experts recommend choosing a device with a wide range so you can fine-tune the drill’s operation. Popular opinion dictates that a decent device should have at least 24 clutch settings. Although you won’t need such a diverse range for basic tasks, it will make it easier to tailor the drill to the material(s) you’ll be working with.
Chuck
This is the part of the device that holds the rotating bit in place. A good chuck should hold the bit securely without any wobble, but it’s also important to check the size before purchasing. Unless you’ll mostly be drilling small holes, look for a 13mm chuck that will be able to hold larger bits. This would especially be crucial if you’re likely to take on heavy-duty projects in future.
Also remember to check out keyless chucks — these have metal prongs to allow users loosen and tighten them easily without having to use keys. The fact that they can hold most bits also makes them ideal for general-purpose drilling. Another design that makes it easier to change bits is the hex chuck. Although they only work with hexagonal bits, hex chucks are well-suited for drilling hard materials and less likely to slip.
Battery
A cordless tool is only as good as its battery. In other words, the reliability of your power source can make the difference between a good day’s work and having your drill run out of juice when you need it the most. It’s thus crucial that you invest in a battery that will be able to hold its charge for long enough, besides generating power at high levels of efficiency.
Drills with such batteries will always carry a higher price, but they weigh less and run longer on a single charge than devices relying on older power sources. Speaking of which, most old-school chargers can take up to 5 hours to fully recharge a battery, while their modern ‘smart’ counterparts will only take an hour at most. You’ll also want your drill to have a battery gauge so you always know how much power you have remaining as you work.
The Material You’re Drilling
Before heading out shopping, take time to think about where the tool will be used more often. For woodworking, the smaller models (specifically those in the 12V range) will be well-suited for most tasks. Only go for larger drills (18-20V) if you’ll be boring large holes or using a hole saw.
If you work with metal, try to go for as much power as you can afford. Keep in mind that most models are only capable of drilling light metal, which means you might have to look for something better suited for heavier applications. If you’re a mason, what you should be looking for is a cordless hammer drill. Thanks to its high-speed hammering action, a tool in this category will comfortably be able to bore through concrete and stone.
What’s the Difference between NiCad & Lithium Batteries?
These two represent the most popular battery choices on the market today, the older of wich is the nickel cadmium (NiCad) variety. Besides being relatively inexpensive, NiCad batteries are also quite durable, with some having the ability to withstand 1000 charge cycles. However, their poor energy density means these batteries have to be recharged often. In addition, there has been a number of concerns with regards to the toxic chemicals commonly used in the manufacture of these products.
This is perhaps the reason why lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have emerged as an alternative power source for cordless tools. Compared to NiCad batteries, these are made using lighter materials and have twice the energy density. The latter makes them excel at delivering high-range power over a single charge. All these benefits come at a price, which means you’ll have to part with more when purchasing drills with Li-ion batteries.
Which Drill Voltage Should I choose? 12V, 18V, 20V, 36V?
Generally speaking, the higher the voltage of a power tool, the more the torque it produces and, as a result, the more you’ll have to pay for it. While most power tools have voltages falling between 3V and 48V, cordless drills shrink this range to 12-36V. On most models, the voltage will be indicated by a figure printed on the side of its battery.
As for your choice of voltage, this will ultimately depend on the kind of projects you take on. For light tasks, consider buying a low-voltage model, which would be the 12V in this case. Opt for an 18- or 20-volt drill if you’ll be tackling some heavy-duty tasks, or even a 36V tool if you need to drill large holes quickly or drive huge fasteners. It’s also worth noting that voltage also affects weight, so expect high-voltage tools to weigh more.
What Does The “ah” Mean in Cordless Batteries??
‘Ah’ is short for ampere hours, and is used to indicate the capacity of a particular battery. A high-capacity battery will generally outlast one with a lower Ah rating, but there are a few exceptions. For this reason, make sure you go through our reviews to see where a particular model falls in battery performance tests.
Also keep in mind that high-capacity batteries will always be heavier than their smaller counterparts. As such, you’ll have to take portability into account when figuring out how long you want your battery to last between charges. A battery with a high Ah rating will also take longer to charge. Depending on the application(s) you have in mind, look for something that balances all these elements, of course taking your budget into consideration as well.
What does Variable Trigger Speed Mean?
Basically, a variable speed trigger is a switch that allows you to select different speeds depending on the task at hand. On most models, this feature is made possible using a range of gears. While drills with variable speed settings generally offer more versatility, it’s important to choose one that offers great control at all speeds.
In other words, your drill should be easy to operate and provide sufficient variable control. For more delicate tasks, opt for a model that has a 2-speed switch as well as a trigger with variable control. This way, you’ll be able to vary the speed from barely rotating to the top of each range.
Whether you’re a hobbyist or professional craftsman, rest assured that there’s a drill on the market that’s just right for you. As you shop, be sure to consider what you’ll be using the tool for, the materials you frequently work with, as well as any challenges you might encounter when tackling a project. Keep in mind that price doesn’t always go hand-in-hand with quality and performance, so try to compare as many drills as you can so that you can find the best cordless drill for under 150, 100, 75 and 50.00 to suit your needs.

Is This The Best 20V Cordless Drill?
I ordered this drill a few months ago and I’ve had ample opportunity to use it since then. Here’s my personal take on it. I used this drill for a range of different projects that (in my opinion) were not ‘professional’ grade. In other words, these were probably very light projects compared to what many contractors and every day construction workers would be putting this drill through. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with the power of this drill, the ease with which I could change bits, and the longevity of the battery.
The power: One project that I used this drill for was hanging some homemade shelving in my garage. These were two by fours that I had screwed together and then I wanted to mount them using 4 inch lag screws. Generally I do not use cordless drills for these types of projects because they just can’t muster the power that I need. Since I had just purchased this Dewalt, I thought I would give it a shot. It did not disappoint. I must have driven in 15-20 lag screws and the drill pushed them in just fine.
Changing bits: This is arguably one of the most annoying pain points about many cordless drills. You have to stop what you’re doing, fumble around with the chuck to try and get your bit out, and it’s almost always a pain in the butt. With the Dewalt, changing bits was super easy (although I did notice that the bit would slip or become slightly loose from time to time).
Battery longevity: The battery life was what I really liked about this drill. Usually when you lose battery power, you lose power in the drill. The lithium ion battery was super long lasting in this drill. I was putting together my kids’ play set for well over 4 hours and the battery was still going strong.
The Basics of this cordless drill:
Specific weight: 3.6 pounds, warranty is a 3 year limited manufacturer warranty (covers manufacturer defects), average battery life of 24 hours, includes 2 lithium ion battery, compact design, energy star certified, 20 volt battery, brushless motor, 2-speed transmission, LED lights, half inch ratcheting chuck, 20 second trigger release delay, belt hook and high speed charger.
Maintenance Tips
The DCD795D2 is designed to be relatively maintenance free but there are some tips that should be followed. After use, it helps to use compressed air to blow out any openings or internal cavities on the drill. You should also wipe your drill down with a damp rag to remove any debris or construction residue.
Accessories
The Dewalt drill can be paired with a number of different accessories. These include belt clips, brushes, extended batteries, contractor bags, and assorted bits.
Who can use this cordless drill?
This drill can be used by the average home owner for intermittent small projects all the way up to the professional handy man or contractor for routine work.
What I didn’t like about this cordless drill?
The best part about this drill is the extended battery life. You can use it for much longer than traditional batteries on larger cordless drills.
How does this drill compare to other cordless drills?
1. Dewalt DCD795D2 vs DCD96D2
The DCD795D2 has the compact features and the 2-speed transmission over the DCD96D2. The latter is a much bulkier drill which can be better for routine construction operations. For the average home owner doing casual project though, the DCD795D2 is the clear choice.
2. Dewalt vs Makita
For the price, the Dewalt is the better choice for the casual user. It has all the power and features you could ever want. If you are in for more heavy duty work, the Makita may be a better buy for its rugged longevity.
3. Dewalt vs Milwaukee M18 Hammer drill
Here again, if the name of the game is routine daily grinding on your power tools, a Milwaukee is probably going to be a better investment. For the average homeowner however, the Dewalt is a great value.
What do users say about this cordless drill?
While all drills will have their reviews at both ends of the spectrum, the overall ratings on the Dewalt are favorable. Many people leaving a Dewalt DCD795D2 Review liked the compact nature of the drill which makes it ideal for home improvement projects. They also liked the extended battery life of the lithium ion battery.
My Final thoughts:
Overall, if you are a casual user and in the market for a cordless drill, the Dewalt DCD795D2 is a great value. It’s perfect for home improvement projects that almost always involve doing work in tight spaces and with short notice. Extended battery life makes it easy to transition from job to job without having to wait for a recharge. Be sure to compare this drill with our top 7 cordless drill reviews.

Top 3 Questions about the DW920K
1. What is the maximum size bit that will fit in the chuck?
Any bit that is one quarter inch or has a one quarter inch shank.
2. Is there a spindle lock?
Yes it has a spindle lock.
3. Does the drill come with only one battery?
No the drill comes with two batteries.
My thoughts on Dewalt
Overall the DW920K is a great power screwdriver for the money. It’s powerful and the battery does last a while when you aren’t using the driver on heavy jobs. That makes it ideal for a home owner doing light work from time to time. It is compact and easy to carry which makes it really great for small projects like installing light fixtures, ceiling fans, or similar tasks. The negatives can be big ones depending on your use case. If you are a contractor or someone who will be using this on the job constantly, be prepared to burn through batteries quickly and to be patient when changing out bits. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer or a fair-weather home improvement person, this cordless driver will be the only one you ever need.
#2. Hitachi DB3DL2 3.6 Volt Lithium Ion Dual-Position Kit
Hitachi is a brand synonymous with quality and craftsmanship. It has all sorts of applications you would think of for a small portable screw driver including light fixture installation, hanging blinds, and tightening fasteners in tight spots. It’s also great if all you’re doing is hanging pictures, working on hobbies, or doing computer repair. Like other screw drivers in its class, the DB3Dl2 is great for casual users and for professionals. The powerful 3.6 volt battery enables contractors to use the Hitachi all day before needing to recharge. Read Full Review

Top questions on the DB3DL:
1. Do torque settings go low enough for precision work like on computers?
Yes the lowest torque setting is adequate for doing light work like this.
2. Can you shut off the light to conserve power consumption?
No but the LED light does not draw that much power from the battery.
3. What drive bits does this take?
It takes hex drive bits.
My Thoughts on Hitachi screwdriver
The Hitachi is at a lower price point than our previous model reviewed and I would say this one is a great choice for anyone doing home improvement or do-it-yourself work. In other words, if you are a homeowner and need a reliable power screw driver for the house, this one is a great buy for the money. You’re going to pay more than the average 20 or 30 bucks for an off brand unit but this will last you a long, long time.If you are a contractor, carpenter, or some other professional looking at the Hitachi for your work, you probably already know what I’m going to say. Even though Hitachi has a lot of great stuff that is super durable for heavy, daily use; this screw driver does not fit that bill. I think any professional that buys this will wear it out almost instantly and be disappointed. It’s just not made for a beating.
#3. Black & Decker PD600 Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad driver with Articulating Head
Black & Decker has been a household name for decades and it’s the perfect brand for consumers with the grit and courage to get projects done on their own. Top questions on the PD600
1. Will the driver get damaged if I leave it plugged in all the time?
No. When the unit is fully charged, it automatically stops receiving a charge from the cord.
2. How much time will I get out of a fully charged battery?
Roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on how heavy you use it.
3. Does the unit come with any bits?
My Thoughts
The screwdriver comes with two bits (Philips and flat head).
As screwdrivers go, this one is entry-level meaning it is about the cheapest name brand power screw driver you can buy. Keep that in mind when considering a purchase. This is definitely not something for a professional user so that leave the casual users like homeowners or maybe just a pro who doesn’t use this type of tool a lot. This driver should be used for light-duty work like crafts, working on computers, hobbies like remote control cars or planes, and other similar applications. If you do a lot of projects around your home yourself and you do it a lot, you will probably wear the Black & Decker brand out pretty quick. It’s a good product but you just have to consider how you’re using it and heavy users need not apply.
#4. Best small cordless screwdriver: Bosch Go 3.6V Smart driver
It never fails that each time you get out of bed in the morning you notice something that needs to be fixed. There are loose outlet covers, shelves that are hanging a bit too low, a loose knob on the dresser, and tons of other miscellaneous fixes that need your attention. The Bosch 33bit smart driver is the perfect tool to keep handy for those small but important tasks. It is small, powerful, dynamic, and discrete so you can keep it hidden away in a drawer until it’s needed. Bosch has a super simple design with no frills that makes this screwdriver incredibly effective. Read Full Review

Top questions for the Bosch Smart driver
1. Can it do small drilling with bits?
No only tightening or loosening fasteners
2. Can it be used on precision tasks like computer components?
Yes, there are bits small enough to work on PC screws.
3. Does it have a detachable battery?
No. The battery is internal and rechargeable.
My Thoughts
Bosch has a quality product here but of most competitors on the market, the Smart Screwdriver is fairly simplistic in its design. It has some basic hallmarks of power screwdrivers like adjustable torque, rechargeable batteries, and interchangeable bits but that is about it. Bosch chose not to incorporate many of the features found in other leading drivers like lighting, adjustable positions, quick change chucks, etc.If you just want a basic power screwdriver that is durable for continued daily use then this one will work out fine for you. It’s compact so that does make it easy to store around the house or carry around on a tool belt without much effort. The narrow profile allows you to get into hard to reach spots like cabinets, closets, etc. If you’re a pro looking for something more versatile though, you might want to look elsewhere.
#5. Tacklife SDh23DC
The Tacklife SDh23DC is great for all of the common applications for power screw drivers you would think of. That includes installation of window treatments, furniture assembly, work on technical devices, and similar tasks. What makes Tacklife different however is all the extra accessories included with the driver. It comes equipped with an ultra-bright 4-bead LED light, 10 unique drill bits, USB charging with full indicator light, traditional charging capability, 3-position handle, and a max torque rating of 4NM. For the price, the Tacklife comes with a ton of great features and is an amazing value.

Top questions for the SDh23DC
1. Does this driver come with any bits?
Yes it comes with 10 unique bits.
2. Can you use socket heads with it?
You can use an adapter to attach a socket head onto the driver however it does not come with this adapter. You will only be able to use quarter inch adapters and sockets with this unit.
3. How long does the battery last?
My Take
Varies based on use but typically a 45 minutes to an hour of continued use. May lose charge if left sitting unplugged all day long and battery life does go down over time.
The Tacklife falls into the category of light-duty screwdrivers for casual home use. It’s a great cheap rechargeable screwdriver with extra features. It’s perfect for homeowners and do-it-yourselfers because of the extra features. Multiple positions (including the 90 degree angle position) make it versatile enough to perform the unique projects often found in the average home. LED lights let you get into dark corners and spaces to use the driver without having to bring extra tools. If you’re a pro however, this tool is not going to be hardy enough for you. It just doesn’t have the finish to make it an ideal tool for the contractor or other heavy user. The battery will run out very quickly and the internal motor does not have the power to drive large screws or run on a continuous, daily basis.
#6. Black & Decker 9072CTN
The Black & Decker 9072CTN features a 2.4 colt battery, automatic spindle lock for manual use, forward and reverse function, narrow nose piece for tight fit into narrow spaces. It’s the perfect tool for the craft person or hobbyist. It has a slim, non-bulky design that is light weight and easy to handle.

Top Questions on the 9072CTN
1. Is it rechargeable and does it come with a charger
Yes it has an internal rechargeable battery and a charger is provided with original unit.
2. Can it be used for laptop assembly?
Yes this can be used for a job like that however additional bits would be required which are sold separately.
3. Does it have a light?
No it does not have a light.
My Thoughts
Overall, the 9072CTN is great for small projects and hobbies. For example working on electronics, light fastening around the house like hanging pictures, assembling crafts, and other similar projects. It is light weight, has a narrow nose so it is not bulky for small areas, and is easy to maneuver. This unit is not good for home improvement projects and definitely not for heavy duty tasks on a daily basis. The components are just too weak to do anything more than tiny screws or driving fasteners into softer materials. For the money, this is one of the most basic power drivers that money can buy.
#7. Makita TD022DSE 7.2V Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/4″ Hex Driver Kit
Makita is one of the most well-known names in power tools and is synonymous with the highest quality and durability. The TD022DSE is the highest-end driver on our list retailing for well over $200. It features an ultra-compact size but still delivers precision and power. It has a 7.2 volt lithium ion battery and drives screws and other fasteners at 220 foot pounds. A quarter inch hex chuck enables extremely fast drill bit changes. It also has a locking mechanism that turns it into a hand-driven screw driver. Read Full Review

Top questions on Makita
1. Does the product come with a hard case?
Sometimes Makita drivers are advertised with hard cases or soft carry cases however you should read detailed descriptions to see what kit you are actually buying. Stock images are often used in product listings and drivers may not come with accessories pictured.
2. Does it stop drilling when screws are fastened?
Yes, with 21 clutch settings you should test proper torque setting for driving screws.
My Thoughts
The Makita TD022DSE is one of the best cordless screwdrivers that you can purchase. It is high-quality and comes backed with one of the longest warranties in the industry. Plus you get the peace of mind knowing that you are buying a quality, durable product that has come to be expected from Makita. If you are a professional builder, contractor, carpenter or similar professional, investing in a driver like this is a good move. For the average home owner this unit is probably overkill. It is a few hundred dollars if you buy the driver plus extra batteries and carry case which is a lot if you are just doing projects every once in a while. I would not recommend purchasing this unit unless you use the tool daily for heavy duty projects.
Before you buy any Cordless driver
All of these drivers are good for their intended applications as long as you consider what you’ll be using it for. That is pretty much what you should do any time you buy a new power tool. Often the cause of dissatisfaction is the fact that a tool doesn’t get the job done for a user and most of the time that is because they didn’t read the capabilities of the tool before they purchased.
For instance if you need something durable and high-quality because you’re going to use it daily, buying a low cost driver with limited features is only going to frustrate you and waste your money. Conversely, if you just want to work on your laptop, getting a $300 dollar, top-notch screwdriver is going to be a total waste as well. Always, always get the right tool for the job.

This cordless impact driver is a handy tool to have around the house. However, with the two batteries included, it can be taken to job sites as well. It is built solidly and has on-board lighting that comes in handy when you need to work in areas where lighting is poor. Top FAQ’s
Q. Will this driver remove lug nuts?
A. You may have an issue if the lug nuts are on too tightly, but once they are slightly loose, you shouldn’t have a problem removing them using this impact driver.
Q. What is the difference between P237 and the P236
A. The P237 definitely has more torque and 3-speed settings. This version also has a power level switch that helps to reduce stripping out screws. With this version, the LED lights stay on for a couple of seconds after you release the trigger and it also contains a spring-loaded auto eject chuck.
Q. Are there more compact versions of the Ryobi impact driver?
A. No, this is the most compact in its catergory
Q. Is this impact drill versatile?
A. It has three torque/speed variations and is, therefore, able to drive through multiple boards. However, it can also be dialled back for jobs that need a lighter touch.
What’s My Take
Ultimately, everything about this impact driver is great and it could be the best impact driver on the list. It is priced just right, contains all the features and benefits to make working with it more relaxed and at the end of the day gets the work done. It also comes with bonus features like the LED lighting and belt clip. This is really an excellent tool to use in and around the home. So if you know how to use a drill or similar device, then you should be getting lots of work done using the Ryobi impact driver. One of the only significant drawbacks or shall we say minor disadvantages with this driver is the fact that it does make an unbearably loud noise. Some customers even report having to use earplugs each and every time they switch it on. With that said, there is a quieter version of the same driver, and it’s called the Quiet strike.
There’s quite a few brands of impact drivers to choose from. You really can’t go wrong in purchasing either one of them. In most cases, you get what you pay for and by reading our impact driver reviews, I hope we helped solve some concerns many of you have.

Best Cordless Drills in 2021
The best compact cordless drill
DeWalt
The DeWalt Xtreme DCD701F2 12V Max Drill is a professional-grade tool that can stand up to the abuse of a rugged job site without the bulky size and weight of larger models.
- Clutch settings: 15
- Speeds: 2
- Volts: 12
- Dimensions: 9.1 x 9.1 x 9.1 inches; 1.9 pounds
Pros: Small size, versatile
Cons: Not powerful enough for extended, heavy-duty tasks
I love this little drill, and it’s become my go-to option for most maintenance and repair jobs around the house.
It’s essentially the same as a professional 18V or 20V drill, just scaled down to a less powerful 12V version. Even though it might lack the raw power of these heavier-duty options, it has all the extra features that come from a professional-quality model — LED light, clutch settings, brushless motor — without the heavy weight and bulky size. At just two pounds, I can use this thing all day and not get tired.
My favorite feature of this drill, other than its convenient size, is the placement of its LED light. By placing it at the bottom of the handle, facing up, it does a great job of illuminating your workspace. Other models with the LED below the trigger can cast frustrating shadows and sometimes cover up what you’re working on.
I also love the overall feel of this drill. It has a great balance in your hand, and the smaller 2.0Ah battery pack doesn’t make it too bottom-heavy like larger options. The rubber handle provides a nice, sturdy grip. Whether you’re using it upright, upside down, or at an angle, you’re always in control, making it easy to get jobs done quickly and correctly.
It’s also nice and durable. The plastic housing has heavy-duty molded rubber protecting most of the edges and corners that could otherwise get dinged up from drops and falls.
Whether you’re a DIY-er who doesn’t need a bulkier option or you just want a capable drill to supplement your 20V powerhouse, this drill is a great choice.
The Top 20-Volt Drills
Tom Schierlitz
We’ve seen the future, and at least as it pertains to drills, it’s cordless. That was our take after testing six new 20-volt drill drivers. These tools can be equipped two ways: with a large battery for long sessions of boring holes or driving screws, or with a small battery that decreases their weight and bulk. Regardless, they have an astonishing ability to bore and screw. To evaluate these machines, we used a 1-inch-diameter spade bit and made holes in Douglas fir2 x 8s; then we drove 3-inch-long lag screws into pressure-treated 4 x 4s of southern yellow pine. Finally, we examined the tools’ performance after leaving them in an unheated garage for several days. All the equipment met or exceeded our expectations for performance and value.

Ranking: ★ ★ ★ 1/2
Price: $90 (one battery)
Holes Bored: 21
Lags Driven: 94
Amp-Hours: 1.3
Weight: 3.02 lb
Likes: Lifting this petite power tool in his right hand, tester Joseph Truini said, “This is a great home-repair tool. It’s lightweight and compact.” That sums up the B&D, but we also like its slim, comfortable handle and its smooth-operating 10-position clutch.
Dislikes: We’d like a second battery, and a battery gauge would also be nice.
DeWALT DCD980M2
Ranking: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Best Overall)
Price: $230 (two batteries)
Holes Bored: 117
Lags Driven: 360
Amp-Hours: 4
Weight: 5.02 lb
Likes: DeWalt is our choice for brute strength and speed. We were surprised by its gusto even after it was left in a cold garage. But all of that power is useless without control. The DeWalt has 22 clutch settings and three speed settings. Our final like: Its ½-inch chuck is equipped with carbide jaws that resist wear.
Dislikes: None.
Panasonic EY7460
Ranking: ★ ★ ★ ★ 1/2
Price: $400 (two batteries)
Holes Bored: 116
Lags Driven: 320
Amp-Hours: 3.1
Weight: 5.30 lb
Likes: The Panasonic feels so solid that we suspect it’s the most durable tool here. When you combine those features with its precise trigger and its authoritative power, you have an ideal tool for heavy-construction projects.
Dislikes: The drill seems to run forever on a single battery charge, but we’d still like to see a battery gauge on it.
Craftsman 16496
Ranking: ★ ★ ★
Price: $120 (one battery)
Holes Bored: 28
Lags Driven: 82
Amp-Hours: 1.5
Weight: 3.31 lb
Likes: Strengths are power and versatility—the tool is a part of the Bolt-On line, machines with a battery-powered motor on a pistol-grip base, and various power heads that snap-fit onto it.
Dislikes: There’s a rough front edge that rubs on your hand when you turn the chuck. It could also use another battery and a battery gauge.
Kobalt KT300A
Ranking: ★ ★ ★ ★ (Best Value)
Price: $160 (two batteries)
Holes Bored: 34
Lags Driven: 202
Amp-Hours: 2
Weight: 4.40 lb
Likes: The Kobalt is a lot of drill for the money, and it proved to be a capable lag driver perfect for deck construction. We also like its generously sized belt hook, highly visible battery gauge, and the clip for hex-shank bits that fastens onto the drill’s side. It’s a relief to see a tool with an understated design.
Dislikes: None.
Porter-Cable PCC600
Ranking: ★ ★ ★ 1/2
Price: $150 (two batteries)
Holes Bored: 26
Lags Driven: 127
Amp-Hours: 1.5
Weight: 3.53 lb
Likes: This tool combines decent power with helpful features such as a battery gauge and magnetic bit holders. Satisfying hole-drilling and lag-driving numbers don’t tell the whole story—it drives fasteners and bores holes quickly, and its light weight and compactness make it a natural fit if you use a drill holster.
Dislikes: None.

The Drill air bomb will be high-precision – Rossiyskaya Gazeta
The planning Drill air bomb will be high-precision, which will completely exclude its hitting peaceful objects. This was announced on the sidelines of the Army-2021 forum by the executive director of NPK Tekhmash (part of the Technodinamika holding of the Rostec state corporation) Alexander Kochkin.
According to him, the striking elements of the PBK-500U SPBE cluster bomb, in which exclusively domestic electronic component base is used, programmed for specific types of purposes. These can be armored vehicles, missile and artillery installations, but not civilian objects. “When dropping it, the aircraft does not need to enter the enemy’s air defense zone, because due to the aerodynamic characteristics, the ammunition, depending on the drop height, can glide for tens of kilometers,” Kochkin said.
The “Drill” will independently fly the required distance to the target and open above it at the right moment. “If the striking element did not work on the intended target, it will still self-destruct after a certain time and will not pose a danger to the population after the end of hostilities,” explained the executive director of the concern.
Earlier it was reported that it is planned to complete the tests of the planning bombs in 2022. And from 2023 it will be launched into mass production.
It is known from open sources that the planning range of a product with the PBK-500U SPBE-K index exceeds 30 kilometers. This allows pilots to use an aerial bomb without entering the enemy’s air defense zone. The GLONASS system is used to navigate the Drill. The bomb is equipped with 15 self-aiming combat elements. In the final section of the trajectory, they are separated from the carrier and descend by parachute, aiming at the targets of the impact with the help of radar and infrared sensors.Their main target is enemy tanks. Their “Drill” elements hit the least protected upper projection.
In addition, the new aerial bomb is equipped with a friend or foe recognition system. That is, it can be used in a contact tank battle, where the elements of the “Drill” will unmistakably choose to defeat only enemy equipment. Earlier it was reported that one such bomb is capable of destroying up to six enemy tanks.
Another undoubted advantage is the bomb’s insensitivity to electronic warfare and its invisibility to radars. In other words, it is extremely difficult to disable or shoot down the Drill. This will make it possible to effectively use the ammunition to destroy ground-based radar stations and command posts.

Cordless drill Wiha Electric Drill zu Hause 20V
Cordless drill Wiha Electric Drill zu Hause 20V
Two modes
Drill and screwdriver
The Wiha zu hause cordless drill can be operated as a drill or screwdriver, quickly switching between different tasks to drill a hole or assemble something.
High-quality electric motor
A key component of the Wiha drill / driver is a Japanese electric motor from Mabuchi Motors with pure copper windings. It produces up to 1500 rpm, generating not only high speed, but also the necessary torque for drilling and working with stubborn fasteners.
Metal gear
To transfer rotation from the motor to the chuck, a metal gearbox made with the highest precision is used, as well as durable bearings.Together they guarantee a consistent transmission of torque, while carefully aligned alignment enhances precision.
Keyless chuck
Holds stronger and does not weaken
The Wiha drill / driver is equipped with the Jacos metal keyless chuck, which holds the bits and drills securely and does not loosen during operation thanks to its unrivaled precision.
Removable battery
Long operating time in all conditions
A removable lithium battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh not only provides energy for long-term operation, but also has several degrees of protection, and a special charger can fully charge it in 80 minutes.
Two speeds
For various jobs
There is a speed selector on the top of the Wiha zu hause drill / driver. The first speed is low, up to 400 rpm, suitable for working with various hardware. The second speed is high, up to 1500 rpm, great for drilling holes.
Torque adjustment
For a variety of tasks
The maximum torque of the Wiha zu hause drill / driver is 40 N • m, and the adjusting clutch has 15 + 1 settings to provide a certain rigidity or, conversely, softness when working with wood, electronics or special materials, if necessary.
Infinitely variable speed control
The Wiha zu hause drill / driver has a function of stepless speed adjustment depending on the force of pressing the button – the harder you press, the faster the rotation, but when you release the button, the chuck instantly stops rotation, providing the most complete control over the work.
Convenient switch for direction of rotation
The direction of rotation switch is located at the top of the handle near the thumb. It can be used to quickly change the direction of rotation or enable the lock against accidental starting.
14 accessories
The drill comes with 8 carbon steel bits, 6 drills and one 50 mm extension. All accessories are hardened to a high degree of hardness to serve faithfully in a wide variety of household chores.

When composing a resume on hh.ru, remember that it must meet the following requirements:
• Volume – no more than two pages in A4 format. And place the most important information on the first page. Can’t fit everything into one or two sheets? Reduce the number of pages by removing unnecessary items from your resume, or at least reducing the font size.
• If there are two pages, be sure to indicate on the first that the rest of the text is on the next page.If you do not have enough work experience and your resume takes less than a sheet, stretch the information in such a way that it will still be enough for A4 format. This will make your presentation look more representative.
• Employers give preference to jobseekers with high professional qualities. An equally important feature is the “stability” of the applicant. On the other hand, frequent job changes will not generate enthusiasm in the recruiter. A good criterion can be a stable dynamic in the applicant’s resume.
The hh.ru website is updated daily with a huge amount of new data. According to popular requests from HR departments of enterprises in Yekaterinburg, an applicant can arrange an interview on the first day of the search. Even if you are interested in a highly specialized work profile, vacancies will appear on it. If not right now, then very soon.
Most of the services for the applicant are absolutely free. Updates happen regularly, making your job search a fun pastime.
