What led to Harry Thomas Jr’s resignation from D.C. Council in 2012. How is Thomas attempting to rebuild trust in Ward 5 community. Why has the race for Ward 5 council seat become competitive in 2024. What challenges does Thomas face in his political comeback bid.
The Fall and Potential Rise of Harry Thomas Jr. in D.C. Politics
Harry Thomas Jr., a former D.C. Council member, has announced his intention to run for his old seat in Ward 5, nearly a decade after a public downfall that led to his resignation and imprisonment. This development marks a significant attempt at political redemption in the nation’s capital.
Thomas plans to file campaign papers this week, allowing him to participate in the first Ward 5 candidates forum hosted by D.C. for Democracy. His decision to re-enter the political arena comes at a time when Ward 5 is experiencing rapid growth and facing numerous challenges.
The Scandal That Ended Thomas’s Previous Term
In 2012, Thomas resigned from his position as Ward 5 council member following federal theft and tax charges. He was accused of misappropriating $350,000 in taxpayer funds intended for children’s programs. Instead, authorities claimed he used the money for personal expenses, including a luxury SUV. This led to a 38-month prison sentence.
Thomas’s Path to Redemption and Community Rebuilding
Since his release, Thomas has been gradually re-entering political and civic circles. At 61 years old, he recently won a seat on a local advisory neighborhood commission. He also served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention last year, where he advocated for returning citizens.
Thomas believes in the redemptive nature of his community, stating, “I think my community is a redemptive community. I let them down, but I think I’ve rebuilt a lot of community trust and hard work.” This sentiment underscores his approach to seeking forgiveness and rebuilding connections with Ward 5 residents.
Focus on Constituent Services and Addressing Inequality
In his bid for the Ward 5 seat, Thomas is emphasizing his past work in delivering constituent services. This approach aligns with the priorities of some city lawmakers, including his late father, who focused on neighborhood concerns such as trash pickup and broken sidewalks.
Thomas also highlighted the need to address economic disparities in the city, stating, “The city is leaving a lot of people behind and we have to figure out how all of the prosperity is spread around.” This message could resonate with voters concerned about inequality and gentrification in the rapidly changing ward.
The Competitive Landscape of the Ward 5 Council Race
The race for the Ward 5 council seat has become increasingly competitive following incumbent Kenyan McDuffie’s decision not to seek re-election. McDuffie has instead launched a campaign for the position of attorney general.
Several candidates have already entered the race, including:
- Vincent Orange, a former council member
- Faith Gibson Hubbard, who recently served as a community affairs director for the mayor
- Gordon-Andrew Lee Fletcher, an advisory neighborhood commissioner
- Zachary Parker, a Ward 5 education board member
This diverse field of candidates ensures a lively and potentially closely contested election.
Challenges and Controversies Surrounding Thomas’s Comeback
Despite Thomas’s efforts to rebuild trust, his past conviction and the nature of his offenses present significant challenges to his political comeback. The misuse of funds intended for children’s programs may be particularly difficult for some voters to overlook.
Additionally, Thomas’s campaign will likely face scrutiny regarding his ability to effectively represent the ward given his past actions. Opponents may question whether he can be trusted with public funds and responsibilities again.
The Role of Public Campaign Financing
Thomas has not yet decided whether he will use public campaign financing for his run. This decision could impact both his campaign strategy and public perception. Opting for public financing might be seen as a commitment to transparency, but it could also draw attention to his past misuse of public funds.
Ward 5’s Changing Demographics and Political Landscape
Ward 5 has experienced significant changes since Thomas last held office. As the city’s second-fastest-growing ward, it has seen demographic shifts and new development that may alter the political dynamics.
These changes bring both opportunities and challenges for candidates. They must address the concerns of long-time residents while also appealing to newcomers who may have different priorities and less familiarity with local political history.
Key Issues Facing Ward 5
Candidates in the Ward 5 race will likely need to address several pressing issues, including:
- Affordable housing and gentrification
- Economic development and job creation
- Education and school improvement
- Public safety and community-police relations
- Transportation and infrastructure improvements
Thomas’s ability to present compelling solutions to these issues may be crucial to his campaign’s success.
The Impact of Thomas’s Comeback on D.C. Politics
Thomas’s decision to run for his old seat raises broader questions about redemption and second chances in politics. His campaign may spark debates about the nature of forgiveness, the possibility of rehabilitation, and the appropriate balance between past actions and current capabilities when evaluating political candidates.
The outcome of this race could have implications beyond Ward 5, potentially influencing how voters and politicians across D.C. view similar comeback attempts in the future.
Potential for Policy Changes
If elected, Thomas may bring a unique perspective to the D.C. Council, particularly on issues related to criminal justice reform and support for returning citizens. His personal experience with the criminal justice system could inform his policy positions and legislative priorities.
The Role of Community Trust in Thomas’s Campaign
Central to Thomas’s campaign will be his ability to convince voters that he has genuinely changed and can be trusted to serve the community effectively. This effort will likely involve extensive community outreach, transparency about his past actions, and clear communication of his vision for Ward 5’s future.
Thomas may need to address questions such as:
- How has he demonstrated personal growth and accountability since his conviction?
- What specific steps has he taken to rebuild trust with the community?
- How will he ensure transparency and ethical behavior if elected?
The responses to these questions could significantly impact voter perceptions and the overall success of his campaign.
Broader Implications for Political Redemption Stories
Thomas’s campaign represents a test case for political redemption in an era of increased scrutiny and accountability. The outcome of his bid for office may influence how other politicians with controversial pasts approach comeback attempts.
This race also raises questions about the role of the electorate in deciding when and if a politician deserves a second chance. Voters in Ward 5 will ultimately determine whether Thomas’s efforts at rehabilitation and community service are sufficient to warrant a return to public office.
Media Coverage and Public Perception
The media’s portrayal of Thomas’s campaign and the public’s reaction to it will be crucial factors in shaping the narrative around his comeback attempt. How journalists and commentators frame his past actions, his current campaign, and the broader implications of his run could significantly influence voter opinions.
Thomas may need to develop a clear media strategy to address his past while focusing on his vision for the future. This balance between acknowledging previous mistakes and presenting a forward-looking platform will be critical to his campaign’s success.
The Intersection of Personal Redemption and Public Service
Thomas’s campaign highlights the complex relationship between personal redemption and public service. It raises philosophical and practical questions about the nature of forgiveness, the potential for rehabilitation, and the responsibilities of elected officials.
Some key questions that may emerge during the campaign include:
- Can a politician who has betrayed public trust ever fully regain it?
- How should voters weigh past actions against current capabilities and future potential?
- What role should personal growth and rehabilitation play in political comebacks?
- How can the public interest be balanced with the concept of second chances?
The answers to these questions may vary among voters and could play a significant role in shaping the outcome of the Ward 5 race.
Lessons for Future Political Comebacks
Regardless of the outcome, Thomas’s campaign will likely provide valuable insights for other politicians considering similar comeback attempts. The strategies he employs, the challenges he faces, and the public’s response to his candidacy could inform future efforts at political redemption.
Political observers and strategists will be watching closely to see what lessons can be drawn from this unique situation in D.C. politics.
The Future of Ward 5 and Its Representation
Ultimately, the Ward 5 council race is about more than just Harry Thomas Jr.’s personal story. It’s about the future of a diverse and rapidly changing part of Washington, D.C., and how it will be represented in the city’s government.
Voters will need to consider not only the candidates’ personal histories but also their visions for the ward, their policy proposals, and their ability to effectively advocate for the community’s needs. The outcome of this election will have real consequences for the residents of Ward 5 and the broader D.C. community.
Potential Impact on Local Governance
The winner of the Ward 5 race will play a crucial role in shaping local policies and addressing the ward’s pressing issues. They will need to navigate complex challenges related to development, education, public safety, and community relations.
As the campaign unfolds, it will be important for voters to carefully evaluate each candidate’s qualifications, proposals, and ability to serve effectively in this important position.

Former D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr. tells Axios he will run for his old seat in Ward 5, nine years after resigning and serving a prison sentence for stealing public funds.
Driving the news: Thomas says he plans to file campaign papers this week in order to participate in the first Ward 5 candidates forum, hosted tomorrow by D.C. for Democracy.
- “I think my community is a redemptive community,” Thomas says about his public downfall. “I let them down,” but adds, “I think I’ve rebuilt a lot of community trust and hard work.”
- In Ward 5, the city’s second-fastest-growing ward, he touted his past work delivering constituent services — a favorite priority among some city lawmakers such as his own late father, who as council member emphasized neighborhood concerns ranging from trash pickup to broken sidewalks.
- “The city is leaving a lot of people behind and we have to figure out how all of the prosperity” is spread around, Thomas added.
Flashback: Thomas resigned as Ward 5 council member in 2012 and served a prison term for federal theft and tax charges after using $350,000 in taxpayer funds meant for children’s programs. Authorities had said he spent the money on a luxury SUV and other personal items, and he was sentenced to 38 months.
- Now at age 61, he has slowly been returning to political and civic circles, most recently winning a seat on a local advisory neighborhood commission.
- He said he advocated for returning citizens as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention last year.
The race for Ward 5 has turned into a free-for-all after incumbent council member Kenyan McDuffie declined another run and instead launched a campaign to become attorney general.
- Other candidates so far include: former council member Vincent Orange; Faith Gibson Hubbard, most recently a community affairs director for the mayor; advisory neighborhood commissioner Gordon-Andrew Lee Fletcher; and Ward 5 education board member Zachary Parker.
- Thomas says he hasn’t made up his mind on whether he will run using public campaign financing.

Medford pastor Harry Thomas sentenced for sex crimes against girls
MOUNT HOLLY – A Medford pastor failed in a bid to withdraw his guilty plea Friday, then received an 18-year prison term for sexual offenses against five young girls.
Harry Thomas, the 75-year-old founder of Come Alive Church, also faced an outpouring of anger and contempt from his victims and their loved ones.
“I hate you,” said one victim, who detailed emotional torment in a statement read on her behalf.
And while one victim’s relative quoted Scripture, another called the pastor a “scumbag” and angrily snapped, “Harry Thomas, you surely will rot in hell.”
“This person is a ravenous wolf,” the father of one girl said of Thomas, a silver-haired grandfather who played Santa Claus. “He is one of the greatest hypocrites — a child molester masquerading as a pastor.”
‘A death sentence’
The prison term, which includes no parole eligibility, “could well be a death sentence,” Superior Court Jeanne Covert acknowledged at the two-hour hearing.
She said Thomas, named last year to a list of the nation’s 100 most influential evangelicals, would serve his term at the state’s Avenel facility for sex offenders.
A pre-sentencing assessment at Avenel found Thomas engaged in “repetitive, compulsive” sex offenses despite feelings of guilt and shame, Assistant Burlington County Prosecutor Stephen Eife said in arguing for a 20-year sentence.
“He’s the devil incarnate,” Eife said.
‘Our entire lives were turned upside down’
Thomas, also a a promoter of Christian music concerts, pleaded guilty in February to raping one girl and sexually assaulting three others between 1999 and November 2015.
He pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a fifth girl.
The pastor targeted victims for repeated assaults between the ages of 5 and 12, “a time when little girls should be playing with dolls,” Eife said.
“Up until the age of puberty, they were repeatedly touched,” he said
The attacks ended when one of the girls came forward to her mother in November 2017, leading to Thomas’ arrest in December.
“In one day, our entire lives were turned upside down,” said the victim’s father.
Eife said the girls and their relatives are “suffering tremendously.”
“The amount of hurt, the amount of confusion, the amount of sadness, the anger, it’s really unbelievable,” the prosecutor said.
“What fools we all were,” said the aunt of one girl. “You used the fact that these kids loved you. You groomed them all and us, too.”
The pastor apologizes
Thomas offered a sobbing apology as those he had hurt looked on stonily.
“I don’t understand why I did these things,” he said. “I would never hurt them but I did.”
The pastor’s attorney, Robin Lord of Trenton, had sought to withdraw a guilty plea reached when Thomas had a different lawyer. She argued the pastor had accepted a bad deal in reaching the agreement just weeks after his arrest.
But Covert rejected the motion, noting Thomas “is an intelligent man with advanced degrees. … Someone didn’t pull the wool over his eyes.”
In seeking leniency, Lord said the pastor’s compulsive offenses should be viewed as a disease. She also pointed to Thomas’ good deeds as a clergyman, including efforts to provide schools and health facilities for children in impoverished countries.
“He has made life better for thousands of children around the world,” she asserted.
Thomas ‘failed’ several people
A Come Alive spokesman has said the charges against Thomas were not connected to the pastor’s role at the church or two related ministries — Creation Festivals, which promotes religious concerts, and Come Alive International, a missionary organization.
An attorney representing the victims, Craig Hubert of Lawrenceville, described Thomas’ actions as “a horrific tragedy” that will persist through the victims’ lives.
“Harry Thomas failed,” Hubert said. “He failed himself, he failed his family, he failed his community, which includes his church … and he failed his God.”
“One has to be reminded that sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace,” he said.

Dean Thomas was a “half-blood” Gryffindor boy from London in Harry’s year at Hogwarts.
History
He was a classmate of Harry’s and best friends with Seamus Finnigan (GF7). He was a black Londoner (JKR) who grew up as a Muggle, and thus had always been a fan of the football (U.S. soccer) team West Ham United (PS9). At Hogwarts, Dean and Seamus tended to goof around in class a bit (CS6), and both were quite friendly to Harry (PA8). Dean’s home life was kept fairly separate from Hogwarts, and he didn’t tell his parents much about what goes on at school (OP11). He dated Ginny Weasley for a good portion of his sixth year (OP38), but they broke up over petty disagreements (HBP24).
When Harry began being attacked by the Ministry, Dean quietly sided with Harry, despite Seamus being an outspoken critic, and joined Dumbledore’s Army (OP16). He clearly admired Harry for publishing his story in the Quibbler (OP26), and later told other wizards that he firmly believed Harry to be the Chosen One (Dh25).
Dean’s father was actually a wizard, though he never told his family this as he feared for their safety. When Dean was a young boy, his father was recruited by Death Eaters and killed when he refused to join, though Dean always thought he had simply walked out (JKR). As a result, when the Ministry began rounding up Muggle-borns, Dean went on the run (Dh25). He was captured by Snatchers, until Dobby, Harry, Ron, and Hermione helped him escape to Shell Cottage (Dh33). He stayed there, becoming friends with Luna Lovegood (Dh35), until returning to Hogwarts to join in the battle against Voldemort (Dh39). In that battle, Dean duelled Antonin Dolohov and knocked out at least one Death Eater (Dh42).
Hogwarts landmarks
Gryffindor, 1991-1998
During his third year his Boggart showed that Dean’s greatest fear has something to do with a severed hand (PA7).
Gryffindor Quidditch Team substitute Chaser, 1996-1997 (HBP14, HBP24)
Joined Dumbledore’s Army (OP16)
During his 6th year he dated Ginny Weasley until she broke up with him in May of 1997 (HBP24)
Family
Dean’s parents are both Muggles and he has a number of brothers and sisters. The family is a happy and supportive one (JKR).
Ancestry
However, Dean’s blood status is not quite what he believes it to be. His biological father was actually a wizard who walked out on the family when Dean was very young, then was killed by Death Eaters when he wouldn’t join them. His “father” is really his stepfather and his siblings are stepbrothers and sisters. Dean’s mother never knew the truth about Dean’s father (JKR).
Skills
Dean is good at drawing (PS), and also “good with the quill” (i.e. can forge signatures) (PA).

Thus, Dean was raised by his mother and stepfather. The boy grew up among his cousins and was a fan of the West Ham football team from childhood.
In the British edition of the first book, Dean is not mentioned in the freshmen division scene (according to Rowling, her British publisher removed the Dean Thomas chapter from the series because it seemed too long). In the American edition, he is described as a black boy (hence the conclusion that his eyes and hair were also black) slightly taller than Ron and is assigned to Gryffindor between Harry and Lisa Turpin.
In the third book, Dean attends Professor Remus Lupine’s (who becomes his favorite teacher) classes in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and it is revealed that the boy’s greatest fear is a crawling severed hand.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dean believes Harry and Dumbledore insist that Lord Voldemort is back and becomes one of Dumbledore’s Squad.
At the end of his fifth year, Dean begins dating Ginny Weasley. In their next year, Harry and Ron find them kissing in one of the hallways of Hogwarts, and this provokes Ron’s anger and Harry’s jealousy. One day, Potter, covered with an invisibility cloak, having drunk the potion of good luck Phylix Felicis, goes to Professor Slughorn and again passes Dean and Ginny, accidentally pushing the girl.Ginny thinks Dean did it and takes offense at him. They eventually break up and Ginny begins dating Harry.
In Book 6, Dean replaces Katie Bell on the Gryffindor Quidditch team while she is in the hospital.
The image of Dean is revealed to the greatest extent in the last book of the series. The young man realizes that he is, apparently, a half-breed, but he has no way of checking it, so he is forced to hide from the Ministry of Magic, which has announced a hunt for “mudbloods”.Together with Ted Tonks, Dirk Cressville, the goblins Griffuk and Gornuk, he wanders through the English villages (one evening the conversation of this company is overheard by Harry, Ron and Hermione). From the transmissions of the Potter Watch radio station, we learn that hunters have attacked their trail. Dean was taken to the Malfoy mansion, where he and Griffuk were rescued by the elf Dobby. After that, Thomas lived in the house of Bill Weasley, and then received a signal from Neville Longbottom and through a secret passage in the “Boar’s Head” inn entered the Room of Help.Despite the fact that by that time he did not have a magic wand, he participated in the Battle of Hogwarts and was able to get a new wand during the battle. In one of the scenes, fighting Antonin Dolokhov, Dean used his stunning spell against another Devourer (Dolokhov tried to fight back, but Parvati Patil used a binding spell).
On July 25, 2007, Rowling announced that she was going to write an encyclopedia about the world of Harry Potter, which will include expanded information about many of the minor characters in her novels, including Dean Thomas.

90,000 prices for bartender courses in Kiev in 2021
Brief history of the profession
According to the information presented in the global world network, the United States of America is considered the birthplace of the bartender profession. And it appeared in the 19th century during the “gold rush”. Then the owners of outlets, in order to increase the turnover and feed themselves and their families, began to sell everything that was possible in the settlements, including alcoholic beverages. At first, alcohol was pushed along with the rest of the goods, but later the stores began to be divided into two zones: a shopping area and a recreation area. The second of which later became a bar. And the people who started working in it are bartenders.
The first known bartenders were Harry Johnson and Jerry Thomas. Harry Johnson is the author of Harry Johnson’s Bartender’s Guide, and Jerry Thomas is the author of Bartender’s Guide (a book containing drink data, cocktail recipes, and a professional bartender code), as well as the first ever mixologist and master in inventing and preparing cocktails. …
Bartenders: who are they
Bartenders are people who serve customers at the bar. Their main task is to dispense and prepare drinks. But also their responsibilities include:
What qualities and skills a good bartender must have
Bad bartender is a murderer.
A good bartender is a doctor.
A good person has cheerful faces.
The bad man is crying behind the bar.
Above are the words from the modern and popular song “Barman” by the well-known Ukrainian musical group Mozgi. And you know what? – you can partly agree with them. After all, your mood depends on how professional the bartender is and how well he served you, and whether you return to his bar counter again.
So what qualities, knowledge and skills should a bartender have in order to want to return to him?
Discipline. A bartender is a person who works with alcohol, but who is not allowed to consume it during working hours.
Communication skills. The bartender should always be able to maintain a conversation with the client.
Diplomacy. It is good when the bartender does not enter into conflict situations or knows how to quickly and diplomatically get out of them.
Good memory. A good memory, first of all, is needed in order to memorize the recipe of cocktails in order to prepare them correctly and quickly in the future. But also a good memory is the key to good relationships with regular customers. After all, the client is pleased when you remember and know his name and his taste preferences.
Professional knowledge. The bartender is obliged to understand alcohol, to know about the peculiarities of certain alcoholic beverages, their compatibility, storage rules, etc.
Well-developed fine motor skills. Skillful hands allow the bartender to prepare cocktails and pour drinks more dexterously and skillfully.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Bartending
Like any other profession, the profession of a bartender has its advantages and disadvantages.Which ones, see below.
Advantages:
- Ability to communicate with people, make new and useful acquaintances
- Working as a bartender can be considered not only as the main source of income, but also as an additional one (it can be combined with the main job, for example, working on weekends)
- It is not necessary to have a higher education in order to work as a bartender
- Working as a bartender, you have the opportunity to express yourself creatively (come up with your own cocktail, for example)
Disadvantages
- Heavy work schedule (many bartenders work at night)
- Working with expensive drinks (you will have to pay for an accidentally broken bottle of an expensive elite drink from your own pocket)
- Communication with people is not always pleasant
Profession training: prices for bartender courses
The obvious fact is that no one will put you behind the bar without certain skills and knowledge. Therefore, before taking up the preparation of cocktails, it is necessary to undergo specialized training. For example, go to bartender courses.
In such courses, you can study the essence and principles of the bartender’s work, the work of a sommelier, mixology (technology of mixing drinks, their compatibility, world cocktails), the technology of making and serving coffee (barista course), bar equipment and utensils.

Courses at bartender schools are the optimal solution. Since in the process of passing them you gain both theoretical and practical knowledge. But if now, for some reason, you do not have the opportunity to attend courses at a bartender school, you can start learning using online courses.Of course, online bartending courses will not replace training at a specialized school, but they can be an excellent start in mastering the profession.

- – Dean’s determination to fight at the Battle of Hogwarts [src]
Dean Thomas (b.1979/1980) was a half-breed English master, son of a master and mother of Muggles. [2] When Dean Thomas was very young, his father died and his mother married another man, resulting in Dean having several half-siblings. [2] Since Dean’s father never told his mother that he was a wizard and was eventually killed by the Death Eaters when he refused to join them, Dean grew up thinking he was Muggleborn. [2]
Dean attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Gryffindor. He studied in the same year as the famous Harry Potter, and for a time played as a hunter for the Quidditch team of his home. In his fifth year, he joined Dumbledore’s Army, an organization taught and led by Harry Potter. Dean (although he was a half-breed) was unable to prove that he had any magical heritage and was therefore in danger when Lord Voldemort took control of the Ministry of Magic in 1997.
Dean was forced to flee to avoid arrest and imprisonment by the Muggle Registration Commission, missing his seventh year.He was eventually captured by the kidnappers, but, along with several other prisoners, escaped the Malfoy estate and soon returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to take part in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Dean survived the Second Wizarding War and was seen sitting next to Seamus Finnigan and Aberforth Dumbledore in the Great Hall after the final battle. However, his further life remains unknown.

Early life
- Dirk Cresswell : “ Muggle-born, huh? ”
- Dean : “ I’m not sure.My father abandoned my mother when I was a child. However, I have no proof that he was the wizard of . ”
- – Dean on his legacy [src]
Dean is the son of a wizard father and Muggle mother, although when he studied at Hogwarts, he considered himself a Muggle-born. [2] His father left when Dean was very young without telling his wife that he was a wizard, out of the belief that not knowing the truth would protect her and their son from the potential dangers of the First Wizarding War. [2] Dean’s father was later killed by a group of Death Eaters when he refused to join their ranks. [2]
Dean’s mother later married a Muggle who raised Dean as his own son. [2] Dean lived in London with several half-brothers and sisters, all of whom were assumed to be female. [2] [10] He had a “very happy family life.” [2] He was a supporter of West Ham United football club, was very artistic and showed his talent throughout his school career. All of Dean’s half-siblings weren’t wizards.

The arrival of Dean’s acceptance letter from Hogwarts led Mrs. Thomas to suspect that Dean’s biological father might be a wizard. Her suspicions were justified, he was actually a wizard. However, she never had proof of this, and as such, Dean was considered Muggle-born. [2] Dean began his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on September 1, 1991. He was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter. During a welcome feast, he was sent to Gryffindor House, where he met with his Gryffindor classmate Seamus Finnigan. [4]
Dean in the Great Hall with other Gryffindors
Dean lived in a dorm with Seamus, who soon became his best friend, as well as Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter, with whom he later became good friends. Due to his Muggle upbringing, Dean, like Harry, was not a supporter of Quidditch, as he had never heard of the sport (although he ended up becoming quite an accomplished player, replacing Katie Bell. (Mostly) and Ginny Weasley (who switched back to the Seeker in her last game with Harry in her sixth year). However, he hung a poster of the West Ham football team over his bed, much to the surprise of Ron, who couldn’t believe Dean would find a one-ball, two-goal game, and where no one is allowed to fly, interestingly nudging. poster in an attempt to get the players to move. [4]
Dean showed artistry by drawing a “Potter for President” banner for his dorm mate Harry Potter during the latter’s first Quidditch match. The poster showed a realistically drawn Gryffindor lion that, due to the enchantment of Hermione Granger, changed colors throughout the game. When Harry was fouled by Marcus Flint, Dean demanded that the referee remove Flint (with a red card), and Ron Weasley explained that the red card rule does not exist in Quidditch. [4]
Second year

- Professor Binns : “ Just because a wizard does not use dark magic does not mean that he cannot, Miss Pennifezer, I repeat, if there are people like Dumbledore… ”

Dean and Seamus in their sophomore year in Transfiguration class
In their sophomore year, Dean Thomas joined the Dueling Club, a defensive club taught by Gilderoy Lockhart in an effort to teach students how to deal with any possible danger that might lurk around Hogwarts. [11] He, among other students, shared his thoughts on the Chamber of Secrets and what could be inside and how to get inside. Dean was about to make the correct guess, but Professor Binns cut him off before he could finish. Dean was believed to be at risk of attack, as he was supposedly Muggle-born, and Muggle-born students were attacked for a year. [12]
Third year
Dean with others during his first year of caring for magical creatures
In his third year, Dean chose his elective subjects “Divination and Care of Magical Creatures.”He was allowed to visit the village of Hogsmeade and expressed a positive interest in the new Master of the Care of Magical Creatures, Rubeus Hagrid, as he always got along with him. However, in their first lesson, when Hagrid introduced the class to a hippogryph named Buckbeak, Dean backed down and got scared when Hagrid asked a volunteer to pet him. Dean also studied Divination this year and, along with Lavender Brown, was one of the few students in his class who did not know the Gloomy one. That year, Hogwarts came under the protection of the Dementors.after the hysteria surrounding the escape from Azkaban to Sirius Black. [7]
Fourth year
- Dean Thomas : “ I still can’t figure out where you two have the most beautiful girls in the year .”
- Ron Weasley : “ Animal Magnetism “.
- – Dean and Ron discussing Padma and Parvati Patil [src]
In her fourth year, Dinah Hogwarts hosted the Triwizard Tournament, and his friend Harry Potter qualified as a minor. This was against the rules of the tournament, so Harry was not a popular choice for the Hogwarts ambassador, and instead, Dean’s peers gave Cedric Diggory a lot of support. However, Dean and the other Gryffindors supported Harry throughout the tournament, remaining loyal to their housemate. [13]
Dean and his Gryffindor friends during dance lessons with McGonagall
Dean will also be allowed to attend the Yule Ball as part of tournament tradition. He commented that Harry and Ron were lucky enough to invite the most beautiful girls of the year, twin sisters Parvati and Padma Patil, on a date. However, it is not known who Dean attended the dance with, as his best friend Seamus Finnigan was going to Lavender Brown and Neville was going to Ginny Weasley. [13]
Later in the tournament, after Ron Weasley forgave Harry, Dean seemed to be more supportive. After the third and final mission, Harry returned to Hogwarts with the dead body of Cedric Diggory and said that Lord Voldemort was free again. Albus Dumbledore took this information and at the end of the year gathered the students for a memorial feast for Cedric Diggory, at which he told them about the events of the third assignment. [13]
Fifth year
- Dean : “ It’s like Harry said, isn’t it? If we are going to be attacked, it will be unsafe . ”
- Dolores Umbridge : “ I repeat, do you expect an attack during my studies? ”

Dean behind Hermione during her first DADA lesson for Umbridge
During Dean’s fifth year, Dolores Umbridge was appointed by Hogwarts School to act as Minister of Eyes . Umbridge doesn’t get along with Dean “; during her first lesson, they openly argued about their opinions about teaching methods at Hogwarts. She called Remus Lupine “ dangerous half-breed,” which prompted Dean to jump into his defense, claiming he was the best teacher he ever had and commenting in response to Umbridge’s comments that her predecessor actually put on them curses that the person said “ turned out to be a maniac “, although he noted that they still learned a lot.He was also very supportive of Harry’s claims that Voldemort had returned. Additionally, he and Seamus argued when Dean believed Harry about Voldemort’s return, and Seamus initially did not. [6]
Dean stands with, and during the DA meeting
Soon, Umbridge caused an uproar among most of the students for her ineffective teaching and brutality, and when it came time to riot, Dean was one of the first to arrive at the first meeting of the group, which in 1995 became Dumbledore’s Army, at Hog’s Head.Inn. Dean was a passionate member of the District Attorney and learned to cast multiple protective spells under Harry’s skillful training in the requirements room where the group secretly conducted their classes. [6]
Also in the same year, Dean accidentally insulted his new divination teacher, Florenze, after Umbridge fired Sibylla Trelawney. Firenze told Dean that he was driven out by the herd living in the Forbidden Forest, and Dean was thrilled to find that there were still centaurs around the school, and asked him if Hagrid was raising them.Firenze told Dean that the centaurs were of their own race, had little to do with humans and did not need their help to reproduce, which greatly confused Dean. [6]
In his fifth year, Dean took the OWL exams, and after he graduated, he was happy to hear that the results would not appear until July, which meant he didn’t have to worry about them until the middle of school holidays. Later that year, Umbridge and her inquisitorial squad would find the District Attorney, and the meeting would end for a year.Towards the end of the fifth year, Dean struck up a romantic relationship with Ginny Weasley [6], and the two continued to meet even in the sixth year. [3]

New pair Dean and together on the Hogwarts Express from
In her sixth year, Dean replaced Katie Bell as Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.He replaced her after she was hospitalized for touching a very damn necklace. Dean’s relationship with Ginny seemed strong at first, as the couple spent a lot of time together. They dated despite the disapproval of her older brother Ron. Despite spending a lot of time together, their relationship began to gradually deteriorate. This was partly due to the fact that Ginny was in love with Harry Potter. She had an affection for Harry from her first year at Hogwarts. At the end of the first year, her affection only intensified when Harry saved her from the influence of Tom Riddle’s diary. Ginny still hoped that Harry would get her feelings back, she began dating Dean and several other boys. [3]
- Harry Potter : “ Do you still want to play Chaser? “
- Dean Thomas : “ ?! Wha – Yes, of course ”
- Harry Potter : “ Well, then you’re in the game.Today at seven o’clock training “.
- Dean Thomas : “ Okay. Hurray Harry! Damn, I can’t wait to tell Ginny! ”
- – Dean’s enthusiasm for playing Quidditch [src]
Ginny also showed Dean her willingness to continue to protect Harry, such as when she chastised Dean for laughing at Harry being hit by Bludger. This accident, which resulted in him passing out due to a cracked skull during one game of Quidditch (after which she visited him in the hospital wing). It is possible that when Ginny learned from Dean during his visit to Madame Puddifoot’s tea shop five months before about Harry unwittingly pouring Levicorpus charm on Ron while reading it from a copy in Half-Blood Prince about Advanced Potions Making She may have scolded him the night before for laughing with Seamus too. As a result, Dean became overly attentive with her, trying not to provoke another argument, to maintain their relationship, which annoyed Ginny more and more. [3]
Dean as Ginny Weasley at Slughorn’s Christmas party
According to Hermione, when Harry bumped into Ginny while climbing through the entrance to the Gryffindor living room under his invisibility cloak and under the influence of Felix Felicis. Ginny believed that it was Dean who was trying to help her get through through the portrait hole and they were arguing about it. Dean stood his ground, saying he didn’t help her, and Ginny broke off their relationship. When this happened, Dean was shocked by the insensibility of his friend Harry (the real culprit and the reason for this was not knowing the invisible Harry).Harry and Ginny kissed at a Quidditch party shortly after she broke up with him, and Dean smashed his glass in amazement that his roommate and ex-girlfriend had an affair so soon. Despite this, Dean shared no hatred for Ginny or Harry for their relationship; he just was in pain, they would have done so soon after she left him. [3]
Albus Dumbledore’s funeral, attended by Dean
Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore was killed in the same year.Dean Thomas attended his funeral with his best friend Seamus Finnigan after Seamus publicly quarreled with his mother to allow him to stay at the ceremony. This was the last year Dean attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as he would not return next year for reasons of his own safety. [3]
Second Wizarding War (1997-1998)
Life on the Run
- Dean Thomas : “ What’s the joke? ”
- Dirk Cresswell : “ He said there are things wizards don’t recognize either .”
- Dean Thomas : “ I don’t understand .”
- Griphook : “ I got my revenge before leaving .”
- – Dean talks to his hidden criminals [src]
Dean’s alleged status as a Muggleborn caused him to hide from the Ministry of Magic. He fled after the Ministry fell under Lord Voldemort’s control and began a raid on Muggle-born wizards and witches. The ministry also imprisoned them in Azkaban for allegedly stealing magic. This also meant that he could not return to study in his final year at Hogwarts, as under the influence of new headmaster Severus Snape, they had a strict no-Muggle policy. [9]
Dean Thomas walks with another fugitive
At some point during the run, Dean met Ted Tonks, father of Order of the Phoenix member Nymphadora Tonks, and traveled with him, later joining a group of fellow fugitives – Muggleborn wizard Dirk Cresswell and the goblins Griphook and Gornyuk. The group stuck together and camped in various locations, trying to mislead any traces they left. Dean traveled alone with Hooktail at some point, most likely after the others had been killed. Dean and Griphook often shared conversations about Harry Potter, Dean fully supports Harry in his quest, and Griphook is somewhat hesitant and sometimes finds the mention of Harry’s name tiresome. One evening they were overheard by Harry, Hermione and Ron, who were also hiding; Dean expressed concern upon learning that his ex-girlfriend, Ginny Weasley, was in trouble while still at Hogwarts, as well as confidence that Harry was fighting Voldemort. [9]
Captured by kidnappers
- “ It is with great regret that we inform our listeners about the murders of Ted Tonks and Dirk Cresswell. A goblin named Miner was also killed. It is believed that the Muggle-born Dean Thomas and the second goblin believed to have traveled with Tonks, Cresswell and Miner may have fled. If Dean overhears or is aware of his whereabouts, his parents and sisters are desperate for news. ”
- – Lee Jordan informs listeners of Dean’s capture by kidnappers at Potterwatch [src]
Dean with before being captured by the kidnappers
Later, a group of fugitives was found by a group of kidnappers led by Fenrir Greyback.Dean and Griphook were the only survivors of the brutal takeover. Around the same time, Harry Potter placed the Taboo curse on Voldemort’s name, alerting the Reavers of his whereabouts. Ron and Hermione were also captured, as they were with him, and all prisoners were taken to Malfoy Estate, the headquarters of the Death Eaters. [9]
All of them, and Hermione – tortured with the Cruciatus by Bellatrix Lestrange – were imprisoned in the basement dungeons where Luna Lovegood and Mr. Ollivander had already been held.Luna had an old nail with which she cut the ropes that bound the group, and she greeted Dean in a friendly way. While in the basement of the Malfoy estate, the group had to listen helplessly as they heard Hermione being tortured in order to gain information on the levels above. [9]
Rescued by Dobby
- Luna Lovegood : “ Harry, we want to help you! “
- Dean Thomas : “ We can’t leave you here! ”

However, the group was soon rescued by Dobby’s house elf, who was fatally injured shortly after successfully transporting them to Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s home, Shell Cottage; Harry told Dobby to take Luna, Dean, and Mr. Ollivander first before returning to pick up the trio, and Bellatrix responded by throwing a knife in time to catch Dobby in the middle of the warp on the second shift.Dean helped Harry and Ron dig Dobby’s grave by hand to show his gratitude, not using magic. Dean put a wool hat on Dobby, showing that Dobby was a free elf. At the funeral, Dean thanked the elf for saving them. [9]
For the next several months, Dean hid in Shell Cottage with Luna, Hooktail and all three. During this time, Dean and Luna seemed to get close, despite the fact that Dean was embarrassed by some of the comments she was making. Mr. Ollivander was able to make Luna a new wand, but Dean was left without her.Harry, Hermione, and Ron used the wands they took from the Malfoy estate and soon left the cottage with the Griphook to break into Gringotts’ Magic Bank. [9]
Battle of Hogwarts
Dean and the others during the battle
In May 1998, Dean, Luna, Bill, and Fleur received a call to arms from Dumbledore’s army through Dumbledore’s army coins when the three returned to Hogwarts. Despite the absence of his wand, Dean returned to Hogwarts. When Dean entered the demand room, Seamus Finnigan ran up to him and hugged him. Dean then fought the other District Attorney members at the Battle of Hogwarts, winning the wand at some point. During the battle, the trio noticed Dean and Parvati Patil fighting against Antonin Dolokhov and Travers, stunning other Death Eaters. When Lord Voldemort and all of his followers arrived at the castle, Dean stood firmly alongside other loyal members of Dumbledore’s army, including Neville Longbottom, who killed Nagini. [9]
Dean with the fight and after him
The Battle of Hogwarts ended with the final duel between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort, in which Dean stood among the crowd of supporters and witnessed the final defeat and death of the Dark Lord. [9] After the battle, Dean was seen talking to Seamus and Aberforth Dumbledore. [14]
Later life (1998–)
It is unknown what Dean’s life was like after the final battle. He may have attended the 2014 Dumbledore Army reunion. [15]
Appearance
Dean had dark hair and dark skin and was even taller than Ron Weasley due to his long neck. Dean looked African in origin. [5]
Personality and traits
- Dolores Umbridge : “ You have encountered some very irresponsible wizards of this class, very irresponsible indeed, not to mention the extremely dangerous half-breeds of .”
- Dean : “ If you mean Professor Lupine, he was the best of us ever … ”
- Dolores Umbridge : “ Hand, Mr. Thomas! ”
- – Dean argues with Umbridge over her biased comments [src]
Dean supported him during his difficult years at Hogwarts.
Dean was an open-minded and tolerant person. When Dolores Umbridge called Remus Lupine a “dangerous half-breed,” he defended his former teacher.Twice he told her and Professor Snape that Lupine was the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher his class had ever been. [6]
Dean was generally a frivolous and good-natured person, he knew how to get along with many people. He never showed anger towards Harry Potter in his sixth year, even when his ex-girlfriend Ginny Weasley started dating Harry shortly after he broke up with her. This was because he knew that Ginny had a crush on the Boy as a child, who has survived since she entered Hogwarts. [3] He also made friends easily with Luna Lovegood, whom many would find strange. [9]
Dean was brave and loyal. He was ready to take part in the defense of his school against the Death Eaters, despite not even having a wand, [9] and never lost faith in Harry Potter. He believed Harry’s claim that Lord Voldemort had returned [6], and believed that Harry would eventually defeat the Dark Lord.
Apparently Dean was willing to break school rules if it would help a friend. In his third year, when Harry was not allowed to go to Hogsmeade due to the fact that his uncle did not sign his permission, Dean offered to forge the signature (unfortunately, Harry could not accept this offer, since he had already told Professor McGonagall that his uniform was not corresponds to reality). signed). [7]
Dean was an accomplished artist and also enjoyed reading the comic Loony Nonby vs Cornish Pixie , showing an interest in art.
Magical abilities and skills
- Duel : Dean proved to be a very skilled and brutal duelist as he and Parvati Patil were able to hold out against Antonin Dolokhov, Travers and the Death Eater in mask during the Battle of Hogwarts. [9] Given the very strong dueling skills of these Death Eaters, this meant that he was particularly gifted with combat magic.
- Defense Against the Dark Arts : As a devoted and devoted member of Dumbledore’s army, it can be assumed that Dean was proficient in defensive magic, as he would have learned to cast numerous offensive and defensive spells under the superior training of Harry Potter. He received a high OWL score in this subject since he attended a NEWT class in his sixth year. [3] He was also able to effectively cast Boggart’s banishing spell, turning Boggart in Free Hand form into a mousetrap in his third year. [7]
- Flight : Dean was also a very skillful Hunter, as he was Harry’s first choice to replace first Katie Bell (who was cursed) in the Gryffindor Quidditch match against Slytherin and then Ginny Weasley (who replaced the Seeker) in the final match against Ravenclaw, showing that he is a talented and confident Quidditch player and broomstick rider. [3]
- Transfiguration : Dean was able to move to the TRIONT Transfiguration level. [3] In this subject, he should have received either “outstanding” or “exceeding expectations,” indicating his proficiency in this highly complex area of magic.
- Enchant : Dean seemed talented in sorcery, as he had earned enough marks in his enchant OWL to advance to TRIONT level classes in this item. [3] He was also capable of summoning the disembodied Patronus, [8] which is a sign of superior magical ability and skill given the enormous difficulty of such an advanced and powerful protective enchantment. He also had no problem casting simpler enchantments like the levitation enchantment. [16]
- Artist : Dean was very artistic and was said to be “good at the pen.” In his first year, he drew “the big Gryffindor lion” for the first Gryffindor Quidditch match of the year, as well as the “Potter for the President” banner he created with the help of Hermione, Neville, Ron and Seamus. [4] In his fourth year, after Harry completed the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, he drew some banners in memory of Harry evading the Hungarian Horned Tail. Some showed Cedric Diggory with his head on fire, [13] showing his talent in the visual arts.
Property
- First Stick : Dean Thomas’s stick was of unknown length, wood, and core material. Like most wizards and witches in Britain, he probably bought it at the age of eleven before starting his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991.Dean lost his wand in March 1998 due to a group of kidnappers. [9]
- Second Wand : After losing his wand to the kidnappers, Dean managed to get hold of a new wand during the Battle of Hogwarts, which he used to furiously defend the school from the Death Eaters. [9]
- Football : Dean Thomas was a passionate fan of the Muggle sport of football, so he owned the ball that was used in this game. [17]
Relationships
Family
- Dirk Cresswell : “ Muggle-born, huh? ”
- Dean : “ I’m not sure.My father abandoned my mother when I was a child. However, I have no proof that he was the wizard of . ”

Little is known about Dean’s relationship with his family. His biological father was a wizard who left his Muggle wife and young son to protect them from the Death Eaters. He never told his wife that he was a wizard, and was soon killed by the Death Eaters when he refused to join their cause.Dean’s mother remarried a Muggle who raised Dean as his own son. Dean also had several half-siblings from his stepfather.
Seamus Finnigan
- “ You don’t have sticks ?! ”

, his best friend
Dean grew close to Seamus Finnigan, one of his dorm mates, during his first year at Hogwarts, and they remained best friends throughout their high school years. They were often seen together at school, and Dean attended the Quidditch World Cup with Seamus and his mother in 1994. Seamus originally believed the smear campaign of the Ministry of Magic and Daily Prophet against Harry Potter when he claimed that Voldemort had returned, but that didn’t seem to affect his friendship with Dean, who Harry believed and who in the end eventually managed to convince Seamus to attend the DA’s final meeting of the year. [6]
Seamus was also unhappy when Dean was chosen to replace Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team when Katy Bell was injured, but again, the two were still best friends. [3] Since Dean was unable to return to Hogwarts for the last year of his studies, they did not see each other for a while and were very bored. When Dean eventually returned to Hogwarts in 1998 to fight the final battle, Seamus was overjoyed at his meeting and ran to hug him. [9]
Ginny Weasley
- “However, when Harry pushed the tapestry to take a shortcut to Gryffindor Tower, they found themselves staring at Dean and Ginny, who were hugged and kissing furiously as if glued together. .”
- – Dean and Ginny “kissing” [src]
, his ex-girlfriend and good friend
Dean started dating Ginny Weasley around the end of his fifth year. [6] Brother Ginny and Dean’s roommate Ron disapproved of the affair, as evidenced by his violent reaction when he bumped into a couple kissing passionately in a deserted hallway. At first they seemed very close, but according to Ginny’s friend Hermione Granger, things started to get worse as Ginny became unhappy with Dean for what she perceived as overprotective as Dean was constantly trying to help her with everything.Ginny’s enthusiasm for the relationship seemed to have died down by Christmas 1996 as she seemed reluctant to see Dean when she returned to Hogwarts. portrait in the Gryffindor common room, and they fought after Dean and Seamus laughed when Harry suffered a skull fracture thanks to Cormac McLaggen. [3]
Dean and Ginny on a date at
Harry facilitated their final breakup by bumping into Ginny as she and Dean walked through the portrait hole under his invisibility cloak and after taking Felix Felicis away.So luck was on Harry’s side, who became interested in Ginny, and she thought Dean was trying to push her through the portrait. This quarrel led to their split. [3]
Ginny clearly outlived Dean shortly after they broke up, as she began dating Harry shortly thereafter and confessed to him that she had never really been disappointed in Harry. Dean, however, seemed stunned and hurt when he saw Harry and Ginny kissing, and even broke his glass, showing that he was going through their split more. [3] Later, when Dean was on the run and heard news of Ginny, Harry noticed that Dean was worried about her well-being. [9]
Dumbledore’s army
- Harry Potter : “ Well, that was good, but we’re overcrowded, better leave it here. At the same time, in the same place next week? “
- Dean Thomas : “ Early! ”

, his allies
Dean became a member of Dumbledore’s Army in 1995.He was friendly with most of the participants. [6] He and Luna Lovegood, in particular, became friends in 1998, as they were together during their imprisonment and rescue from the Malfoy estate, and later appeared to become close while staying at Shell Cottage. Dean was sometimes confused by some of the weird things Luna said, but never made fun of her, and was seen reaching out to her and helping her in the Requests Room shortly before the Battle of Hogwarts. [9]
- “ I know Harry Potter. And I believe that he is real – the Chosen One, or whatever you want to call it . ”
- – Dean confirms his loyalty and faith in Harry Potter to Dirk Cresswell [src]
Dean was also relatively close to his dorm mates Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Neville Longbottom, although not to the same extent as Seamus. Ron spent more time with Dean and Seamus in his fourth year when he initially believed Harry was cheating to put his name on the Goblet of Fire. [13] Ron strongly disapproved when Dean started dating his younger sister, although they remained friendly. [3] He was also on friendly terms with Hermione Granger, another Gryffindor in his year.
Dean made the banner for Harry during his first Quidditch match and believed him for the return of Lord Voldemort in 1995, unlike Seamus, who willingly joined Dumbledore’s army. Harry was a little resentful of Dean in his sixth year because of his envy of Dean’s romance with Ginny Weasley, with whom he fell in love. When Dean and Ginny broke up, Harry’s animosity subsided, although Dean was upset when Harry kissed his ex-girlfriend shortly after their breakup. [3] Despite this, Dean never seems to have any dislike for them, as he knew that Ginny had a crush on Harry from his first year at Hogwarts. In fact, during his rescue from the Malfoy estate, he didn’t want to run away with Dobby and leave Harry behind. [9]
Dean was also good friends with both Fred and George Weasley, senior students of Gryffindor. He assisted them in their efforts to sabotage Dolores Umbridge and helped them test Skiving Snackboxes in their fifth year. [6]
Other members of Dumbledore’s army were: Lee Jordan, Colin and Dennis Creevey, Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet, Katie Bell, Lavender Brown, Parvati and Padma Patil, Ernie Macmillan, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, … Chang, Anthony Goldstein, Michael Corner, Terry Booth and Marietta Edgecomb. [6] Dean’s relationship with most of them is unknown.
Etymology
Dean means “leader” or “leader” and is often the title of department head at a college or university. Thomas means twin.

- Dean is portrayed by Alfie Enoch in all films except Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows : Part 1 .
- A drawing once posted on the J.K. Rowling (also referred to at Pottermore ) revealed that Dean’s name was “Gary” in early drafts of Philosopher’s Stone . [18] [19]
- Rowling included information about Dean’s biography in an early draft of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, , but ultimately dropped it as she considered it an “unnecessary digression.” She stated that to some extent she traded Dean’s journey of discovery for Neville Longbottom because the latter character’s revelations about his past were more relevant to the main story. [2]
- Rowling said that when it came time to cast the film adaptation of Philosopher’s Stone, she told director Chris Columbus about Dean and that she felt he was “slightly taken aback” by how much she developed the backstory of such a minor character. [2]
- In the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix adaptation , Dean seemed to take Lee Jordan’s place, for example, helping Fred and George with their snack box and reciting Lee’s line in The Hog’s Head.
- Dean is also the tallest of all the boys in Harry’s dorm.
Alfie Enoch dancing with on the set of the movie
- In the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , during a Quidditch match, we briefly see Dean playing in pursuit of Gryffindor (but we don’t see his name on the back of his robes). There is no explanation in the film as to why Dean is playing the chaser, but it can easily be assumed that he is taking the place of Katie Bell.
- During Harry’s high school years, Dean was the only male stalker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
- In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Dean does not meet the trinity on the run, and he is not present at the Malfoy estate when the trinity gets there. He is mentioned on the radio, but due to his absence from the Malfoy estate, it is assumed that he escaped, unlike Griphook.
- In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , Dean’s boggart is a severed hand, [7] but in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 it is a bloody eyeball. [20]
- J.K. Rowling said in response to a fan on Twitter that she “would not give up on Dean Thomas being a Jedi.” [21] The source here is a bit vague: she might not have meant that Dean was a real Jedi, but rather that he might have been the magical equivalent of one of them. A more likely explanation is that, raised by a Muggle family, Dean was a fan of the Star Wars movie series, much like he brought the soccer poster to Hogwarts because he was a Westham FC fan.
- Alfie Enoch and Devon Murray have stated that they love the fan theory that Dean and Seamus ended up together. [22]
Character reduction
Dean Thomas was originally a prominent character and was better friends with the main trio. This is an early sketch by JKR of how she originally wrote the “Midnight Duel” scene, which originally featured Dean Thomas, but was cut out for publication.
Dean Thomas was originally supposed to be a more prominent character in novels like Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood, but his role was initially reduced.Dean was originally called “Gary” and in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Dean Thomas was supposed to be first introduced during the Sorting Hat chapter. His character was cut from British copies due to the need to cut a chapter, but he still appears in some American copies. He was also supposed to appear in the “Midnight Duel” chapter, where along with Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville they will face off against Draco Malfoy, but he was completely excluded from this scene. After cutting Dean so hard from the books, Joe didn’t want him to go unnoticed in the films, and when the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was in production she blew away director Chris Columbus with the amount of information she had about such minor character. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling originally included a Dean Thomas backstory explaining that his blood status was’ Muggle-born ‘and that his father was a wizard, but he was carved out again as it was’ unnecessary content “. “Jo said that she thought she changed Dean Thomas’s development to the character of Neville Longbottom. Instead, as he was more relevant to the overall plot. Dean later plays a more important role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” . where he becomes Ginny’s boyfriend and a member of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows , where he is on the run, kidnapped and rescued….

At the invitation of the concert agency “Jazz Club Evgeny Vladimirov” FOR THE FIRST TIME! King of Caribbean Jazz Leon “Foster” Thomas (Trinidad Island) and legendary Butman trio (USA-Russia) will perform in Minsk on September 16, 2010.
Leon “Foster” Thomas is the union of body and soul in jazz. Equally good at mastering musical instruments, voice and body plastic – this laudable desire once turned an unknown young man from Port St. Spain, in the heart of the Caribbean, into a Broadway star.According to Downbeat magazine, the creative range of Leon “Foster” Thomas is so wide that it allows the artist to perform in a wide variety of genres from swing to exotic jazz. This is confirmed by the victory at world jazz competitions. If you set yourself a goal and list all the stars who have repeatedly been his partners, you can say, without false modesty, that it will take an impressive time. So as not to waste it, here are just some of the names that were on the posters next to the name Leon “Foster” Thomas: Harry Belafonte, Gregory Hines, Phyllis Hyman, Erta Keith, Smokey Robinson, Patty Austin, Niall Rogers, Larry Coryell and Whoopi Goldberg …Born in the heart of the Caribbean on the island of Trinidad, Leon has absorbed the amazing music and rhythms of this exotic corner of the planet since childhood. The boy was invited to numerous national festivals as a local prodigy. At the age of 14, he was already a serious professional and a great local celebrity. After Leon won another music competition, he felt cramped on his home island. The musician went to conquer America, and soon his name became known throughout Florida. One of Florida Memorial University’s top students, Leon often went out to the coast and just started playing. Around the young artist, a mass of spectators instantly gathered. Someone just danced, and someone listened attentively to the melodic steel sounds of his steelpan. Among them were professional musicians. They could not pass by such an obvious talent. Soon, Leon was already painting local jazz clubs in bright Caribbean colors. And in the afternoon – he studied: he studied harmony, composition. As a result, Thomas graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Music degree.Immediately after graduation, his impressive career began.
Bright compositions by Leon “Foster” Thomas consistently fill the top lines of the charts. Leon recently presented his latest album entitled “What You Don’t Know …”. 11 original tracks that reveal the essence of his talent will allow you to plunge into the depths of musical fantasies. New York critics have long recognized Leon as “the king of Caribbean jazz.”
In Minsk, the American artist will be supported by the legendary Butman trio.Oleg Butman is one of the brightest jazz performers who conquered America and Russia with his playing. His joint projects with US jazz stars blew up the musical life of Moscow back in the late 90s. He performed at the most prestigious stages in the world: Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Blue Note, Birdland, Blues Alley jazz club (Washington DC), Salt Lake City Jazz Festival, Hall. P.I. Tchaikovsky.
Butman’s jazz career began in 1978 in St. Petersburg. The 16-year-old boy was accepted into his ensemble by the legendary David Goloshchekin.
In the mid-80s, Butman left for America. During his 18 years in the USA, he gained a huge musical experience, working and recording with such outstanding musicians as Grover Washington, Richie Cole, Joe Locke, Eddie Gomez, Andy Laverne, Monty Alexander, Pat Metheny, Billy Taylor.
Cruising between New York and Moscow, the musician continues to amaze the already sophisticated Russian audience with unique projects with US jazz stars.
