The deal in place covers all varsity sports on campus according to the release, and is not limited to just the student-athletes, but “teams, coaches, and staff will use Nike-provided products,” as a part of the new deal.

Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack hosted a press conference on Friday at 10 a.m., to announce a new deal with Nike.
The official terms of the deal were not disclosed at the press conference because of a confidential agreement with Nike according to Wildhack. However, Wildhack did mention normal deals like this tend to be in the range of “6-to-15 years,” but the one for Syracuse “is a shorter term,” compared to those.
Football success is a driving force in the negotiations like these according to Wildhack and that they are “better served by a shorter deal,” because of that.
This could be an indication that Syracuse’s current AD has growing confidence in the football program under head coach Dino Babers and what he believes the not so decent outlook of the program could be. Syracuse University and Nike will continue an over 30 year partnership, the University announced this morning. A deal that started in 1982-1983, when SU men’s basketball began wearing Nike shoes. Followed by the Orange football team, which began wearing Nike cleats in 1991. In the mid-90s, the basketball, football, and lacrosse teams, all began wearing Nike jerseys. Beginning in 2002-2003, all SU teams transitioned to Nike footwear, uniforms, and apparel.
The extension also includes the start of the Nike experiential learning internship program. The program will allow the opportunity for Syracuse students to work at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, OR each summer.
