Age-Appropriate Programs
Ensure the camp offers programs suitable for your child’s age group. Both NTPA and STC provide options for various age ranges, allowing children to participate in activities tailored to their developmental stage.
Interests and Themes
Consider your child’s interests when choosing a camp session. Does your child have a favorite story or musical they’d like to explore? Look for themes that align with their preferences to maximize their engagement and enjoyment.
Schedule and Duration
Evaluate the camp schedule and duration to ensure it fits your family’s summer plans. NTPA offers both week-long and two-week options, while STC provides week-long sessions. Consider whether half-day or full-day programs would be more suitable for your child.
Location and Accessibility

The Long-Term Benefits of Theatre Camps for Children
Participating in theatre camps can have lasting positive effects on a child’s development. These programs offer more than just a fun summer activity; they provide valuable life skills that can benefit children well into adulthood.
Building Confidence and Self-Expression
Theatre camps encourage children to step out of their comfort zones and express themselves creatively. This process helps build self-confidence and improves public speaking skills, which are valuable in various aspects of life.
Fostering Creativity and Imagination
By engaging in storytelling, character development, and performance, children learn to think creatively and use their imagination. These skills can translate into improved problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking in other areas of their lives.
Developing Empathy and Emotional Intelligence
Through character exploration and collaborative work, children learn to understand and relate to different perspectives. This process enhances their empathy and emotional intelligence, crucial skills for building strong relationships and succeeding in various social situations.
Enhancing Academic Performance
The skills developed in theatre camps can positively impact academic performance. Improved reading comprehension, memorization techniques, and public speaking abilities can benefit children across various subjects in school.
Preparing Your Child for Their First Theatre Camp Experience
If your child is new to theatre camps, there are several ways you can help them prepare for this exciting adventure:
Discuss Expectations and Address Concerns
Talk to your child about what they can expect at the camp. Address any concerns or anxieties they might have, and reassure them that it’s normal to feel a bit nervous about trying something new.
Encourage an Open Mind
Remind your child to approach the experience with an open mind. Encourage them to try new things, even if they feel unsure at first. Emphasize that the goal is to have fun and learn, not to be perfect.
Pack Appropriate Supplies
Ensure your child has everything they need for a successful day at camp. This may include:
- Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for movement
- A water bottle to stay hydrated
- Snacks or lunch (if not provided by the camp)
- Any required materials specified by the camp organizers
Celebrate Their Efforts
After each day of camp, take time to discuss your child’s experiences. Celebrate their efforts and achievements, no matter how small. This positive reinforcement can boost their confidence and enthusiasm for the program.
The Role of Parents in Supporting Their Child’s Theatre Camp Journey
Parents play a crucial role in maximizing the benefits of theatre camp for their children. Here are some ways you can support your child’s theatrical journey:
Show Interest and Enthusiasm
Demonstrate genuine interest in your child’s camp activities. Ask about their day, the characters they’re playing, or the songs they’re learning. Your enthusiasm can reinforce their excitement about the program.
Attend Performances and Presentations
Make every effort to attend your child’s final performance or presentation. Your presence in the audience can provide tremendous support and validation for their hard work.
Practice Lines and Songs at Home
Offer to help your child practice their lines or songs at home. This not only aids in their preparation but also allows you to bond over their theatre experience.
Encourage Continued Involvement
If your child enjoys their theatre camp experience, consider exploring opportunities for continued involvement in the performing arts. This could include after-school drama clubs, community theatre programs, or future camp sessions.
Theatre summer camps offer a wealth of benefits for children, fostering creativity, confidence, and essential life skills. Whether you choose North Texas Performing Arts, Sacramento Theatre Company, or another reputable program, these camps provide a nurturing environment for your child to explore their talents and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts. By supporting your child’s theatrical journey, you’re investing in their personal growth and opening doors to a world of creative possibilities.

We will have social distancing and mask reminders for students across campus.

Description
“Vocal Vacations” are gathering friends again
This year we held two shifts of “Vocal Vacations” for the first time. At the request of children and parents, we organize a winter shift! The program includes: modern methods of pop singing, breath setting, support, expanding the range, working with songs in a recording studio, learning to play musical instruments – this and much more awaits the guys in the shift. As well as your favorite counselors and teachers, even more songs, performances and creative performances!
Shift program
Winter break is an opportunity to discover your vocal talents, learn to play the guitar, keyboard or drums, work out with the best practicing teachers, gather your own music group and arrange a big concert.
The change will be based on pop vocals – this is a well-known type of pop singing, which includes a huge number of varieties of songs: folk singing, jazz, bard song, rock music. These directions include a whole range of vocal skills. It will be interesting for those who are already making music and performing on stage, as well as for guys who just love music.
Voice training is the use of vocal techniques in practical life. The first thing that begins with the statement of the voice in the children’s camp “Vocal Vacations” is with the statement of the student’s breathing.Mastering the breathing technique is necessary for any singer. Correct operation of the diaphragm is primarily important, as this affects correct vocal breathing and sound delivery. A change program helps to master the art of singing, experienced specialists of which will help even an absolute beginner.
And also …
In the shift will be held: master – class on saxophone, bass – guitar and piano student of the music school Dautov Ruslana, master – class of playing drums, guitar and bass – guitar, master – class ” magic violin strings “from the laureate of all-Russian and international competitions Farida Khazeeva, master – class from the graduate of the Moscow State Pedagogical University Aliza Galyamova. An atmosphere of New Year’s magic and miracles will reign in the shift, and pleasant surprises await the children!

Many teacher vocalists who work with adult voices chant their students at the beginning of the lesson with their mouths closed. This type of exercise is very beneficial for the vocal apparatus. Exercise – “hum” serves as a good “warm-up” for the voice, allows you to effectively solve vocal tasks without intense stress (the tightness of the closure of the vocal cords with this type of singing is sparing). Singing with a closed mouth allows the teacher to establish auditory coordination (develop vocal hearing) of the student). This is due to the fact that, in the absence of articulation tasks, it is easier for the student to concentrate on the purity of intonation. Unfortunately, few teachers-vocalists working with children use this type of vocal exercises in practice, as children are bored to sing “without words.” This problem is solved in game forms. Below is an example of the game “cows”, which will allow the teacher to easily solve the set vocal tasks for children “
Didactic game “Animals are flying”
Vocal task: the formation of a muscular sensation of pitch.
Teacher – vocalist Oksana Rodina (specialization – voice training in children) author of unique methods for developing voice in children in play forms:
“One of the initial stages in vocal lessons is the formation of a MUSCLE sense of pitch in a child. Often, the child hears that this sound is high and this one is low, but there are often problems with reproducing the given pitch. Before proceeding directly to singing, it is best for a child to “try” his muscular sensations out of tone, in the mode of chanting speech. This helps, firstly, to feel the sound of your voice in different registers, and secondly, it smoothly prepares the child, both muscularly and emotionally, for melodic singing. ”
(The video was recorded on the example of classes in the younger group of Oksana Rodina. CC “Inspiration”)
Didactic game “Crab” tongue twister
(Active diction)
Vocal task: Formation of an effective singing breath, active diction in singing.
The video demonstrates the use of game elements in quick-speaking exercises on the example of a lesson by Anna Borodina – 9 years old (4th year of study).
The use of tongue twisters as speech, chant-speech and melodic exercises is a common practice among teachers – vocalists. Allows you to solve various vocal tasks. First of all, to improve the dictional qualities of the articulatory apparatus, the problems of setting singing breathing, the formation of vocal articulation, etc. are effectively solved on rapid-talking material.d.
Didactic game: “Balls”
Pedagogical task: vocal breathing training
Didactic game “I love fruits”
Pedagogical task: the formation of the correct articulation of the vowel sound “a”, intonation of a quart leap.
The video shows an example of the use of game technologies for the effective formation of the initial skills of singing the vowel sound A, training in purity, intonation of a quart leap in singing.
Didactic game: “Bite”
Pedagogical task: the formation of vocal articulation of the sound “A”. The video was recorded on the example of the lesson of Alexandra Suvorova (6 years old)
Most of both beginners and experienced teachers begin their voice development by using vocal exercises with the vowel “A”. But despite all the seeming simplicity in the sound arrangement of this vowel, in my opinion, this is one of the most difficult and insidious sounds for a beginner singer.Read more about voice production using the vowel “A” in the article “We Sing A Correctly”
Didactic game AU
Pedagogical task – the formation of a unified vocal position
The video shows game technologies for setting vocal articulation of vowel sounds A -U. Oksana Rodina is the author of unique methodological developments on voice training in children in the game. The author of the methodology for the development of a child’s voice from 3 years old “Vocal Alphabet”.You can read more about children’s singing on the website childvocal.ru. Despite the fact that all vowel sounds in singing have their own articulatory characteristics, they are united by common features. One of the most difficult vowel combinations is the open A sound and the narrow U sound.
