On the first day of camp, campers will be provided with an activity bag that will have everything they need for camp activities. Campers will need to bring their own pre-packed lunch and water bottle.
Does my child need to bring a lunch?
Every child has different needs in regards to food; we want to ensure that your child gets a nutritious meal and that his/her needs are being met. We ask that you bring a pre-packed lunch and water bottle every day for your child. Please make sure you properly mark your child’s lunch. Lunches with ice-packs or cooler type lunch bags are permitted. Concession stands will not be open.

All camp participants are to be checked in and out every day of camp by their parents/legal guardians or a person designated during the online registration or sent to [email protected] via email. A proper ID will be required.
Is my child able to attend camp if we are traveling from out of state/internationally? (As of 5/10/21)

Hands-On Science Camp Goes Virtual at the California Science Center
LOS ANGELES, June 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The California Science Center has presented Hands-On Science Camp to generations of young scientists and explorers throughout Los Angeles. Although our in-person camp will not take place this summer due to the COVID-19 health and safety measures that have been in place for over one year, the Science Center will continue to make science learning fun and accessible – “from our lab to your home.”
Virtual Hands-On Science Camp will engage young minds, Pre-K to 8th grade in problem solving and inquiry through science and engineering. Beginning June 21 and continuing through August 6, weeklong daily camp sessions will be held on Zoom for 90 minutes with hands-on activities led by dynamic camp staff. Our small class sizes encourage children to connect with fellow campers and the instructor to receive the support and attention needed to succeed.
All materials needed for the hands-on investigations and explorations will be sent to the camper’s home or can be picked up curbside upon request. Camps will also experience the Science Center through virtual tours of exhibits, live demonstrations and exclusive question-and-answer sessions with on-site scientists and animal care staff.
The Science Center is extending its summer outreach efforts through a Camp-in-a-Backpack community partner program, which collaborates with organizations such as School on Wheels, Para Los Niños and the Brotherhood Crusade. These community partners will distribute Science Center backpacks to students in their organizations so that they may experience camp activities without the need for internet access or computers. Backpacks will contain age appropriate science activity guides and tools including a microscope, digital scale, calipers, an electronics kit and more. The primary focus of Camp-in-a-Backpack will be on developing scientific inquiry skills and gaining confidence and experience by using the tools. Participants will learn how to use a microscope, take detailed measurements, and make observations and comparisons. Throughout the summer, educators will also “pop-in” on the community partners to help distribute backpacks and conduct fun, hands-on activities with students.
“We are excited to offer Virtual Hands-On Science Camp and Camp-in-a-Backpack as alternatives this summer,” says Gretchen Bazela, Deputy Director of Education. “The format allows us to continue our mission of making science accessible and fun by providing engaging activities and experiments that can be done anywhere.”
For detailed information and registration forms for Virtual Hands-On Science Camp, please visit www.californiasciencecenter.org/programs/camp/summercamp. Scholarships are available for students and families with limited financial resources.

About Camp Skyhook – Skyhook Foundation
Education is a Social Justice Issue
According to our partners at LAUSD, the reason outdoor programs are transformative is due to their ability to re-direct and focus the mind.
The natural world is therapeutic, providing a sense of peace and healing. It provides a place for reflection and offers a three-dimensional affirmation that everything is going to be all right. It provides multi-sensory education experiences that become meaningful and are more likely to transfer to long-term memory. Of course, this will only happen if students have access in an equitable manner. Despite our best efforts, growth has not kept up with demand. Our residential outdoor science program currently has a six-year wait list.
A recent study from MIT and Centre for Economic Performance concluded that “drawing more low-income and minority children into science and innovation could increase their incomes – thereby reducing the persistence of inequality across generations – while stimulating growth by harnessing currently under-utilized talent.” The study highlighted that exposure to STEM fields, such as the experience of participating at Camp Skyhook, is a central determinant of innovation. A lack of exposure limits a child’s ability to see beyond their own neighborhood – we call these individuals the “lost Einstein’s”.
Lack of access to out-of-the-norm experiences denies a context to frame content taught at school. Lack of recreational and green spaces in low-income neighborhoods is a result of environmental red-lining. Many kids can see the mountains in the distance from their neighborhoods but never give them a thought. Since they have never experienced nature up close, they view it merely as background noise.
Many current initiatives are addressing discrimination within the areas of selling to property to people of color and lending disparities, but none of this has a real and lasting impact unless people can afford to buy the homes. This takes us back to socio-economic mobility that is almost completely and inextricably linked to education. This is why we believe education is one of the most fundamental social justice issues.

90,000 24-hour St Giles Summer Camp for 12-17 years in Los Angeles, USA
St Giles International has been organizing language courses and programs for children and adults since 1955. Over 60 years of practice has made St Giles one of the most respected language schools in the world, offering high quality English language programs in the UK, USA and Canada.
In the USA, St Giles has several interesting locations, including in the “Sunshine State” – in California, namely in the world-famous city of Los Angeles.
The program is hosted by the California State University Northridge campus, located in a picturesque Los Angeles suburb, 20 minutes from Hollywood. Students of the program have at their disposal high-quality facilities for teaching, sports and recreation, including spacious modern classrooms, as well as many outdoor areas for leisure activities. This center is the perfect base from which to explore the best beaches in California, as well as all of Los Angeles’ attractions.
The Summer Program consists of 20 English lessons of 50 minutes each. Classes are held in a light, relaxed atmosphere with experienced teachers, recognized specialists in their field. All teachers have an academic degree and the necessary certificates and qualifications, for example, Cambridge CELTA, Trinity TESOL, TESL. In the classroom, in addition to focusing on speaking and writing, expanding vocabulary, reading and grammar, teachers actively use visual material, music, songs, videos, interesting articles and stories to make the lessons “lively” and exciting.
St Giles Children’s Programs have an important distinctive feature. Students are encouraged to complete one topic each week, so classes, leisure activities and excursions are organized accordingly. For example, the first week of the program is “Water and Sea”, therefore, all week the children carry out projects, go through certain vocabulary, visit attractions related to this topic (Aquapark, The Queen Mary Ship Museum, Venice Beach, the “Underwater” theme party, Olympic games “Crazy Water”, etc.e). Or the Celebrity theme suggests a trip to the Grammy Museum, a walk around Hollywood and the famous Walk of Fame, an excursion to Universal Studios, as well as a movie night and talent show – in general, everything that may be related to the theme of fame, popularity and celebrities.
In addition to the standard program of 20 lessons, the school offers a choice of free English + classes such as Speaking and Writing, University Study, Performing Arts. Thus, students can learn English through the prism of their hobbies and interests.
Participants are accommodated in a modern student residence on the Northridge campus, in double rooms with a shared bathroom. The residence also has common seating areas and internet access.
St Giles is very responsible for the safety of its students, which is why children are supervised around the clock. Curators live with students, accompany them to all events and excursions and are always there to provide any necessary assistance and support.
Participation in the St Giles Summer Vacation Program guarantees a 100% learning outcome and a clear understanding of campus life and lifestyle in Southern California.

Los Angeles has ideal weather, a vibrant and culturally diverse population, and inextricable ties to the film industry. From Hollywood, Malibu and Westwood to Chinatown and the Sunset Strip, Los Angeles lives up to its expectations. Last summer, group excursions included trips to Six Flags, Santa Monica Beach, Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, Universal Studios and more. Students gain hands-on experience at NYFA CampUniversal Studios’ summer studios, spread across 415 acres of offices, alleys, indoor soundstages and outdoor film sets. We have arranged with Universal Studios to shoot our film, acting, photography and screenplay in their prestigious and widely used backyard, a landscape literally made up of parts of the world.Driving through the site, you can alternately stumble upon a dusty Mexican villa, an imposing Roman Square, a New York alley from the 1930s, and a street with saloons and wooden sidewalks leading to the Wild West. Several lakes, an old New England street and a Renaissance courtyard are nearby, making it a truly one-of-a-kind summer camp.
