What are the official rules of wall ball. How many players can participate in a wall ball game. What equipment is needed to play wall ball. How does scoring work in wall ball. What are the key strategies for winning at wall ball.
The Basics of Wall Ball: Equipment and Setup
Wall ball is a simple yet engaging game that requires minimal equipment and setup. To play, you’ll need:
- A wall with a smooth, flat surface
- A bouncy ball (tennis ball, rubber ball, or lacrosse ball)
- At least two players (though more can join in)
The beauty of wall ball lies in its accessibility. Unlike many sports that demand specialized equipment or dedicated playing fields, wall ball can be enjoyed in various settings, from school playgrounds to office parking lots during lunch breaks.
Choosing the Right Wall
The ideal wall for playing wall ball should be:
- At least 10 feet high
- Smooth and free of obstructions
- Wide enough to accommodate the number of players
Is a specific type of wall required for wall ball? While any flat surface can work, brick or concrete walls are often preferred due to their durability and consistent bounce. However, players can adapt to various surfaces, making wall ball a versatile game that can be played almost anywhere.
Official Wall Ball Rules: USWA Guidelines
While wall ball is often played casually, there is an official governing body for the sport: the U.S. WallBall Association (USWA). This organization has established a set of 25 official rules for competitive play. However, it’s important to note that most casual players won’t need to adhere to all of these regulations.
Some interesting official rules include:
- No buybacks in tournament games
- Prohibition of drug use and alcohol consumption during USWA tournaments
- The right to ban players involved in public disputes or scandals
Do casual players need to follow USWA rules? For most informal games, a simplified set of rules is sufficient. The official guidelines are primarily relevant for organized competitions and tournaments.
How to Play Wall Ball: Step-by-Step Guide
Playing wall ball is straightforward, but mastering the game takes practice and strategy. Here’s a basic guide to get you started:
- Gather players around the wall, ensuring everyone has enough space to move.
- The first player throws the ball against the wall without bouncing it first.
- After the ball rebounds, another player must catch or touch it before it bounces twice.
- If a player fails to catch the ball cleanly, they must run and touch the wall before another player can throw the ball and hit the wall.
- If the ball hits the wall before the runner touches it, the runner is either out or receives a strike (depending on the agreed-upon rules).
- Play continues until only one player remains, or a predetermined score is reached.
Can wall ball be played with different numbers of players? Yes, the game can be adapted for as few as two players or as many as five or six, depending on the available space and preferences of the group.
Scoring Systems in Wall Ball
Wall ball can be played with various scoring systems, allowing players to customize the game to their preferences. Here are some common scoring methods:
Elimination System
In this version, players are eliminated from the game when they fail to touch the wall before the ball hits it after a missed catch. The last player remaining wins the game.
Strike System
Players receive strikes for errors, such as failing to touch the wall in time. Typically, three strikes result in elimination. This system allows for longer gameplay and more chances for players to recover from mistakes.
Pegging System
When a player makes an error, they must stand against the wall and allow the player who got them out to throw the ball at them (usually aiming for the legs or lower body). This adds an element of physicality and excitement to the game.
Which scoring system is best for wall ball? The choice of scoring system often depends on the players’ preferences and the desired length of the game. The elimination system is quickest, while the strike system allows for longer matches.
Advanced Wall Ball Techniques and Strategies
As players become more experienced, they often develop advanced techniques to gain an edge in wall ball. Some strategies to consider include:
- Varying throw speed and angle to make catches more difficult
- Aiming for corners or edges of the wall to create unpredictable rebounds
- Faking throws to deceive opponents
- Positioning yourself strategically to cover more ground
- Developing quick reflexes for catching and throwing
How can players improve their wall ball skills? Regular practice is key to improving in wall ball. Focus on hand-eye coordination, agility, and throwing accuracy. Playing with more skilled opponents can also help players learn new techniques and strategies.
Wall Ball Variations and Related Games
Wall ball’s simple concept has inspired numerous variations and related games. Some popular alternatives include:
Butts Up
A more physical version of wall ball where players who make mistakes must bend over and face the wall while other players throw the ball at their backside.
Handball
A more structured game played on a court with specific dimensions, often with a smaller, harder ball.
Wallball Tennis
A hybrid game that incorporates elements of tennis, played against a wall instead of over a net.
Are there regional differences in wall ball rules and variations? Yes, many regions have their own unique versions of wall ball, often with slight rule variations or different names for similar games.
Benefits of Playing Wall Ball
Wall ball offers numerous physical and social benefits for players of all ages:
- Improves hand-eye coordination
- Enhances reflexes and agility
- Provides a good cardiovascular workout
- Develops throwing and catching skills
- Encourages social interaction and teamwork
- Can be played in limited space with minimal equipment
Why is wall ball an excellent activity for physical education classes? Wall ball’s accessibility, low equipment requirements, and ability to engage multiple players simultaneously make it an ideal choice for PE classes. It also helps develop fundamental motor skills that are transferable to other sports.
Wall Ball in Popular Culture and Sports Training
While wall ball is often associated with playground games, it has found applications in various areas of sports and popular culture:
Sports Training
Many athletes use wall ball exercises to improve their hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and throwing accuracy. Baseball players, in particular, often incorporate wall ball drills into their training regimens.
Fitness Programs
Some fitness programs have adapted wall ball concepts into high-intensity workouts, often using medicine balls thrown against specially designed walls.
Video Games
Wall ball-inspired games have appeared in various video game formats, from simple mobile apps to more complex sports simulations.
How has wall ball influenced other sports and activities? The core concepts of wall ball – quick reactions, accurate throwing, and spatial awareness – have been incorporated into training methods for various sports and fitness programs. Its simplicity and effectiveness make it a versatile tool for skill development.
Wall ball’s enduring popularity stems from its simplicity, accessibility, and the fun it provides. Whether played casually during recess or in more organized settings, wall ball offers a unique blend of physical activity, strategy, and social interaction. As interest in accessible, low-equipment sports continues to grow, wall ball may indeed be poised for a resurgence in popularity, much like the recent pickleball craze. Its adaptability to various settings and player numbers makes it an ideal game for people of all ages and skill levels, ensuring its place as a beloved pastime for years to come.
Wall Ball Rules – Yep, There are A Few
So you want to know the rules of wall ball? Good call. Much like the recent pickleball craze, this easy-to-play, hybrid version of more complicated sports feels like it’s due for its moment in the sun.
I tried my hand at pickleball a couple of years ago. This weird hybrid of tennis and Ping Pong involves less movement and skill than either parent sport. And now, every suburbanite seems to be playing pickleball. Wall ball shares similar DNA to pickleball as it requires a lower degree of athleticism yet provides loads of fun and a good workout. In other words, just like pickleball, wall ball feels primed to blow up.
My Wall Ball Experience
I spent many afternoons playing wall ball in middle school. We generally used a tennis ball, sometimes a lacrosse ball – really just about anything we could get our hands on. The absence of a racquet or bat ensured an easy entry point into the game.
On top of that, wall ball only requires a wall and a ball. Scratch that, maybe at least one friend (arguably the hardest challenge yet) with whom to throw the ball back and forth.

Wall ball, like any sport, contrived in a dusty playground, struggles with rules and structure. As a casual game, a few rules doesn’t rank as a bad attribute. While I played wall ball frequently, it still ranked a distant second on my list to “Destroy the Man with the Football,” whose list of rules…well, was constrained to the title of the game.
The USWA Lays Down the Law
Surprisingly, an organization called the USWA (The U.S. WallBall Association, Inc.) exists and dubs itself the “natural governing body of that (wall ball) sport.” Slogans aside, the mere existence of such an organization implies that somewhere in the United States, at least several people treat the sport of wall ball seriously.
The seriousness is further conveyed by the fact that 25 official rules exist. I know you are here to learn how to play wall ball in your backyard or schoolyard, not in a uniform. So I took a spin through the lengthy USWA rulebook, so you don’t have to.
My personal favorites of the 25 are as follows:
Rule Thirteen: “All games will be single elimination. There will be no buy-backs in any tournament games.” Buy-backs!? Huh? This conjures up a shadowy figure, angered at losing out on his $500 price money, slipping a Benny to a well-coiffed official.
Rule Sixteen… “There will be no smoking any drugs or drinking any alcohol if you are playing in any USWA Tournament.” What!? Say it ain’t so, who doesn’t want to guzzle a Bud after nailing a poor schmuck with an 85mph fastball.

Rule Twenty-Four: “USWA reserves the right to temporarily or permanently ban or suspend an individual who is the subject of a public dispute, contempt or scandal; anyone directly involved in the defamation of the USWA, its affiliates or sponsors; anyone directly or indirectly threatens any athlete, spectator, sponsor, affiliate or employee of the USWA. ” This reads that you can be banned for just about anything. So mind your Ps & Qs and R-E-S-P-E-C-T the judges!
The Real Wall Ball Rules
While we appreciate the good work of the USWA to standardize wall ball rules, wall ball is best left to the domain of the playground or office wall during lunch break. As such, here are the rules that you really need to know to ensure a good time for you and your buddies.
- Wall ball can be played with as many players that can reasonably gather around a wall and be somewhat in proximity to each other. Usually, this maxes out at five or six, but use your best judgment.
- The game begins when a player throws the ball against the wall. The thrower cannot bounce the throw to the wall.
- Once the ball rebounds from the wall, another person must grab it. If a person fumbles or inadvertently contacts the ball, they must then run and touch the wall. Meanwhile, another person will pick up the ball and attempt to either hit the runner or the wall prior to a wall touch occurring.
- If the ball hits the wall prior to the runner touching the wall, the runner is out or given a strike.
- There are several options for keeping score:
- Runners are eliminated from the game if the ball hits the wall before they touch the wall.
- Runners achieve a strike if the ball hits the wall before they touch the wall. A predetermined amount of strikes mean you are out (usually three).
- If the ball hits the wall before they touch, the runner must stand at the wall and allow themselves to be pegged by a person who got them out.
The Last Man Standing Wins
Wall ball truly can be played by anyone nearly anywhere. The few rules and dynamic pace of play make for a good workout. And much like life, the last man standing wins. So whether you are 13 or 30, may these playground rules make wall ball more fun for you and your crew. Just don’t get pegged!

DescriptionDiscuss ItLog ItEdit Page
Wall Ball is one name of a type of group-game played throughout the U.S., U.K., and Canada, primarily by elementary and junior high school children, (usually boys). There are many variations on game play, and many different names used to describe the game, including:
* Butts Up
* Death Ball
* Executioner
* Firing Squad
* Hand Ball, (for the “bouncing” version of the game only)
* Homicide
* Murder Ball
* Red Ass (Arse) (Butt), also Red-A
* Slaughter House
* Slaughter Ball
* Spread Eagle
* Suicide
* Wall Ball
It is a popular school yard game, perhaps owing to the simplicity of equipment needed, namely a wall and a ball that bounces, (usually a tennis ball). It is likely that these games are distilled versions of fives, American handball, and other sports that date back to Greek and Roman times, such as expulsim ludere.
There are two basic versions of the game:
* The ball is thrown against the wall, followed by the other players attempting to catch the ball.
* The ball is kept in continuous play by bouncing it with the palm of the hand, where it usually hits the ground first and then hits the wall.
Although there are “sanitized” versions, the more popular games have a “violent” component to them. Again, the rules vary widely, but usually when someone “fumbles” the ball, (or breaks some other rule of the game), that person must run to the wall and touch it before another player can throw the ball directly at them. In some other variations of the game, a special “punishment” occurs where a player must run (or even “slow walk”) the width of the wall while another player tries to hit them with the ball, (at some agreed distance away from the wall).
Because the game can be very violent, schools have been known to ban or attempt to curb the playing of all forms of Wall Ball once the activity is made known to administrators or to parents. Similar actions have been taken against the milder game of Dodge Ball.
In another milder variation of the game, the ball is thrown at the wall instead of the person who fumbled the ball. The game is still often banned at schools, not because of violence, but because of damage to the sides of buildings, windows, etc.
Another optional rule is the yelling of “Wall-Ball” in the event of the ball rolling past all of the players. The person who retrieves the ball after another player yells “Wall-Ball” cannot move any closer to the wall before throwing it. This forces the player who retrieved the ball to hit the wall without it touching the ground. If the player fails to hit the wall without the ball bouncing, it is vary easy for the thrower to be put out by the other players.
Slaughter House
Slaughter house, also known as wall ball or spread eagle, is a 2-or-more-player game that involves speed and quick thinking. This is a list of rules for the game:
* Throw the ball at the wall.
* Try to catch the ball after the ball hits the wall.
* If another player catches another person’s throw before the ball hits the ground, the player who threw must run and touch the wall to be safe from being “slaughtered” with the ball.
* If the ball hits a player’s head at any moment when the time is in, in the game, the player who threw the ball will be “slaughtered” once, for rule breaking.
* While the game is in session, the player with the ball must hit the wall first; if this rule is broken, the player who “missed” the wall must run and tag the wall before being pegged with the ball.
* When a player calls “gates”, the player with the ball (outside of the throwing limits) must freeze where he or she is standing and hit the wall with the ball.
* If a player catches his or her own ball, the player must drop the ball and touch the wall.
* If a player is to throw the ball behind him, there is a penalty of “one free slaughter” for rule breaking.
* If a player catches a ball, but then suddenly drops the ball, the player must run to the wall.

Rules of the game of volleyball, the history of the sport, everything about volleyball, description
Volleyball is a popular team game with the ball , familiar to many from school. The name comes from the English volley – “volley” and ball – “ball”. The sport is ubiquitous, thanks to simple rules and simple equipment requirements.
The playing area is divided by a grid into two equal squares. Each team plays in its own territory. The goal of the players is for the ball to hit the floor in the opponent’s zone. All team members play a certain role and occupy one of the zones on the court. During the game, athletes change positions.
There are several varieties of sport : traditional volleyball, pioneer ball, Japanese mini volleyball, sitting volleyball for athletes with disabilities, beach version and others.

History of volleyball
discipline. He called it “mintonet” because of the resemblance to badminton. A little later, the game received the current name.
The rules were first formulated by the creator of the game in 1897. They included the following provisions:
- The playing field is 15.1 m long and 7.6 m wide.
- Net height – 1.98 m from the floor
- Ball diameter – from 63.5 to 68.5 cm, weight – 340 g.
- The game was played up to 21 points.
Since the origin of volleyball its rules have changed several times. The provisions that are used today were formulated in 1925. They were played on the birthplace of volleyball – in the USA , in Europe and Africa. In the east, until the 60s, slightly different rules were in effect. There, a playing field of 11 * 22 m was used, and 9 or 12 players could be on it at the same time. The positions of the athletes in the team remained unchanged until the end of the match.

Volleyball in the USSR
The founders of the game of volleyball in the Soviet Union were students of art universities. They promoted a quick development sports discipline.
The debut volleyball championship of the USSR was organized in Moscow in 1925. Since 1927 the championship has become an annual event. Teams of all Union republics took part in it.
Volleyball players of the men’s team of the Soviet Union became gold medalists at the Olympic Games in 1964, 1968 and 1980. The women’s team has won the Olympics four times.
Today volleyball is actively developing in Russia. The game is called “folk”. Volleyball is played in schools, secondary and higher educational institutions, in courtyards. Many promising athletes appear in the country who are ready to defend the interests of their homeland in competitions. There are sections for children and adults in all regions of Russia. The national team regularly takes part in the Olympic Games and world championships.
What you need to play volleyball
For sports volleyball you need a ball, net, player’s uniform, shoes, knee pads.
- Ball. The game is played with a spherical ball. According to the standard, the diameter of the ball is 65-67 cm, weight – 260-280 g. It can be made of natural or artificial leather.
- Mesh. To divide the field, nets made of polypropylene and other synthetic materials are used. The thicker the threads, the more durable and high-quality the network is considered to be. It must withstand strong ball impacts.
- Athlete uniform. Both men and women wear a T-shirt or T-shirt, shorts or sports shorts to play. Clothing should be made of durable breathable material. The cut is free, does not restrict movement.
- Knee pads. Knee protectors are used by athletes of all skill levels. Knee pads protect the player from injury to the joints during a fall. Outfit for indoor volleyball and outdoor volleyball is different.
- Sneakers. Shoes with elastic shock-absorbing soles are suitable for the game. It is best to choose leather sneakers with a soft insert in the ankle area. Shoes should fit well on the foot. The sole has a pattern in the form of zigzags or stripes so that the shoes do not slip on the floor.
Fingers can be injured while playing. This can be a fracture, dislocation or sprain as a result of a strong blow to the ball. To prevent injury, many athletes tap their fingers before a game by wrapping them in a cloth patch. For this, a regular adhesive plaster is suitable, which can be bought at any pharmacy.

Team composition – volleyball players
Each player in the team has a specific role. Volleyball players have the following roles:
- Binder. Gives a pass to the attacker, if necessary – puts a block, does not participate in the attack. Occupied positions on the playing field – 2 and 3.
- Diagonal player. Performs a block and attack from the fourth zone. Can take the first position to join the attack.
- Libero. Plays in 1, 5 and 6 zone. His task is to pass the ball to the setter. In difficult situations, the libero can pass instead of the setter.
- Finisher. Versatile athlete. Participates in attack, reception, block. Can take positions 1, 4, 5. Sometimes it helps the libero to make accurate passes. There are two players on the team.
- Central blocker. The player performs a power serve, block, attack. Does not take part in receiving the ball. Sometimes, after serving, he can change places with the libero.
When choosing a role for a player, the coach most often focuses on his physical data . The athlete must know exactly his role and follow it during the game. The success of the team depends on the well-coordinated work of volleyball players.
Playing field markings
The game is played on a size 9 court* 18 m. The playing field is divided by a grid into two squares 9 * 9 m. The size of the field is the same for women’s and men’s games. The height of the net depends on who is playing. For men it is 2.43 m from the floor, for women it is 2.24 m.
The playing field has a smooth, light and uniform surface. The site marking includes the following lines:
- Side lines.
- Face.
- Medium.
- Lines of attack.
Zones in volleyball are allocated conditionally. The site is divided into six sections on which the athletes are located. Players move from one position to another in a clockwise direction.

Volleyball rules
Volleyball rules are simple. Many players get acquainted with this sport at school, so the main provisions are known not only to professionals. During the game, athletes must strictly follow the established provisions.
Volleyball rules in brief :
- The game consists of individual parties. Their number is from three to five in one match.
- Game time is not limited. It ends when one team reaches 25 points. The maximum score in the fifth game is 15 points.
- A point is scored if the ball hits the floor on the opponent’s side.
- The winning team in is the team that gained the advantage in three games.
- The gap in the score to win the game must be at least two points. With a score of 24:25, the game does not end until the advantage is increased.
- There are 14 players in the team, there are six on the field.
- During the game, athletes change positions. The order in which the players move is determined by the coach during the initial line-up.
A volleyball game starts with a ball. The draw determines which team will receive the first serve. When serving from one team to another, the athletes move to the next position clockwise. The ball is served from the back line. Most often, the players of the first line take the pitch, if necessary, any member of the team can do this.
From the first line they attack above the net, from distant positions – from a three-meter strip. To pass the ball to the territory of opponents, players can pass it to each other, in total, no more than three touches can be made. It is forbidden to catch the ball, throw it or hold it in your hands. The ball may come into contact with any part of the athlete’s body. If two team members touch the ball at the same time, it counts as one touch.
These rules apply to professional volleyball. Sometimes schools simplify the rules taking into account the age of the players and the time allotted for the match. Children usually play three games up to 25 points.
The most significant volleyball tournaments
Since volleyball is included in the program of the Olympics, participation in the Olympic Games is the most prestigious for athletes. The composition of the national Olympic teams is determined by the results of the World Cup, which is held a year before each Olympics. The winners of the championship are guaranteed the right to participate in the Olympic Games.
Other regular volleyball tournaments:
- World Championship . Held one every four years. The national team consists of the winners of the World Cup of Champions, which is held in the year preceding the world championship.
- European Championship. Held every two years for men’s and women’s teams from 56 countries included in the confederation.
- Euroleague. It has been held annually since 2004 for men’s teams and since 2009 for women’s.
From 1992 to 2017, commercial competitions were held annually for men – the World League and for women – the Grand Prix. In 2018 they were replaced by the Nations Volleyball League. The championship is held annually. It is attended by men and women.
Russian volleyball organizations
The main structure governing this sport in the Russian Federation is the All-Russian Volleyball Federation. It replaced the USSR Volleyball Federation in 1992.
The main governing body of the Federation is the conference. Its leadership is elected every four years. To solve current problems, a presidium is being formed. The Executive Committee, which is responsible for the implementation of the decisions taken, stands out from its composition.
The Executive Committee is governed by the President, who is elected for a term of four years. Commissions and councils are created to solve special problems.
The federation includes more than 80 divisions from different regions of the country. Four separate regional volleyball federations have also been created – in the Center of Russia, in the Urals, in Siberia and in the Far East.

The rules of volleyball are quite simple, and besides, there are not so many of them when compared, for example, with basketball. With this game, most people begin to get acquainted at school in physical education classes. This sport was invented in 1895 by American George William Morgan , since then the game has evolved significantly and updated its rules several times.
Volleyball can be considered one of the most accessible sports, it requires a small area, a net stretched between two posts and a ball. Each side has 6 players (less is allowed in amateur competitions). The victory goes to the team that allowed the ball to land in their own half of the field the fewest times. On the one hand, the essence of the game is clear and understandable, but in fact, volleyball has a number of nuances that all participants in the game should definitely know.
This is interesting: Volleyball was first included in the program of the Olympic Games in 1964.
The basic rules of volleyball in short form
The following points are a number of rules that will be enough to explain the game to schoolchildren and novice volleyball players:
- Two teams play, each consists of 6 people (3 – attacking line, 3 – defensive line).
- A team is allowed to touch the ball only 3 times per rally (blocking is not considered a touch).
- Catching, throwing or holding the ball is prohibited.
- A player cannot touch the ball twice (block does not count).
- Players move clockwise. The team must move (change positions) after the opponent scored a point first, and then your side.
- There are 3 games in volleyball, each is played up to 25 points (to win the game there must be a difference of 2 points, if the score is 24:24, then the match continues until the required two-point difference is reached).
- Each team in each set has the right to take 2 time-outs of 30 seconds each.
- Back row players are prohibited from attacking from the attacking zone (3 meter line). If the back row volleyball players want to perform an offensive hit, then they must jump to the 3-meter line without stepping over it).
- It is allowed to contact the ball with any part of the player’s body (the answer for many who are interested is that you can play volleyball with your foot).
- If two or more players touch the ball at the same time, it counts as one touch.
- After the service, the front row players may change positions among themselves.
- The serving is given 8 seconds from the moment the referee whistles.
- Serve with one hand only.
- In each game, a team is allowed to make a maximum of 6 substitutions (several players can be replaced at the same time).
These were the basic rules of volleyball, and now let’s look at the main aspects of the game in more detail.
Explore the amazing history of volleyball
What is the essence of volleyball?
The object of volleyball is to drive the ball with the hands over the net into the opponent’s half of the field, attempting to get the round to touch the court or bounce out of bounds from any part of the opposing player. At that time, the opposing team must prevent the ball from entering their own half of the court.
Volleyball rules prohibit players from hitting the ball twice. Usually the team tries to organize an attack with three touches: the first is a reception and a simultaneous pass to the setter (the one who stands under the net – zone 3), the second is a pass to the attacker, the third is a hit.
The victory goes to the team that won the most games (in total, from 3 to 5 sets are played, depending on the tournament).
Teams, court and technical aspects
There must be 6 players on the court at the same time. Substitutions are allowed throughout the match, however, in one game (set) the coach can make a maximum of 6 substitutions.
Each player takes his position, in the attacking zone (next to the net) or in the defensive zone (back of the court behind the three-meter line). According to the rules in volleyball, there are 6 zones, each has its own number (look at the picture below ). The transition of players is carried out clockwise.
The volleyball court has a rectangular shape measuring 18 by 9 meters. A net is stretched in the middle of the platform at a height from the floor:
- For men – 2.43 m.
- Women – 2.24 m.
For schoolchildren of different ages, the grid height has the following values:
- Boys 11-12 years old – 2.20 m.
- Girls 11-12 years old – 2.00 m.
- Boys 13-14 years old – 2.30 m.
- Girls 13-14 years old – 2.10 m.
- Youth 15-16 years old – 2.40 m.
- Girls 15-16 years old – 2.20 m.
The circumference of the volleyball is 65-67 centimeters and the weight is 250-280 grams.
Scoring
To score a point, the ball must hit the floor in the opponent’s half or go out of bounds from an opposing player – this is the main way to score points, but there are many other ways to add points to your piggy bank, for example:
- Opponent failed to serve or served incorrectly.
- Opponent failed to get the ball over the net with the last shot.
- An opponent stepped over the halfway line or touched the top edge of the net while attacking.
- Incorrect execution of the pass (holding or catching the ball in the hands).
- Incorrect command transition.
Score when blocked. Players of the defending team can jump out and block the opponent’s kick, if after blocking the ball bounced in the opponent’s half of the field or went out of bounds from them, then your team gets a point. If, after the block, the ball bounced into your half of the court, the ball is awarded to the team opposite.
According to the rules, the game is played up to 25 points, but if the score has reached this mark, a, neither side has an advantage of 2 points, then the set continues until there is this necessary two-point difference.
Do you know? The longest game in volleyball lasted 48 minutes. It was a match of the Italian championship (men), the teams “Cuneo” and “Sisley” played. The second set of the match ended with the score 54:52.
Depending on the level of competition, in volleyball the number of sets varies from 3 to 5. The last 5th game is played up to 15 points.
What are the violations of the rules in volleyball?
Volleyball is a dynamic sport, so participants can break the rules during the game. Violations in volleyball are:
- Touching the ball by one player twice in one rally (block is not taken into account).
- Overstepping the end line when serving.
- More than three team touches per rally.
- Violations in the placement.
- Serving more than 8 seconds from whistle.
- Touching the top edge of the grid.
- Fouling over the halfway line of the field (fouling is fixed if the arm(s), foot(s) are completely in the opponent’s half of the field.
- Unsportsmanlike behavior of volleyball players – hitting opponents, tripping, etc.
- Conflicts with the referee team.
