Using a VPN to Access Geo-Restricted Coverage
For golf enthusiasts outside the primary broadcast regions or those traveling during the event, using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) can be an excellent solution to access geo-restricted coverage of the Presidents Cup.
A VPN allows you to connect to servers in different countries, effectively masking your true location and making it appear as if you’re browsing from the chosen server location. This can unlock region-specific streaming options that might otherwise be unavailable.
Steps to Use a VPN for Watching the Presidents Cup:
- Choose a reputable VPN service with servers in countries where the Presidents Cup is being broadcast
- Download and install the VPN application on your device
- Connect to a server in the desired country (e.g., a US server for NBC coverage)
- Visit the streaming platform or broadcaster’s website
- Sign in or subscribe if necessary
- Enjoy the Presidents Cup coverage!
When selecting a VPN, consider factors such as connection speed, server locations, and privacy features. Some popular VPN options include ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and CyberGhost.
Free Streaming Options for the Presidents Cup
While many premium streaming services require paid subscriptions, there are some potential options for watching the Presidents Cup without breaking the bank:
- Free trials: Many streaming services offer free trial periods, which could cover the duration of the Presidents Cup if timed correctly
- Ad-supported platforms: Some broadcasters may offer limited free streaming with advertisements
- Highlights and recaps: Official social media channels and websites often provide free highlights and summary coverage
It’s important to note that free streaming options may not provide the same quality or comprehensive coverage as paid services. Additionally, be cautious of unofficial streaming sites, as they may pose security risks or violate copyright laws.
Enhanced Viewing Experience: Second Screen Options
To fully immerse yourself in the Presidents Cup action, consider utilizing second screen options to complement your primary viewing method. These can provide additional insights, statistics, and interactive features to enhance your enjoyment of the event.
Popular Second Screen Options:
- Official Presidents Cup app: Typically offers live scoring, player statistics, and interactive course maps
- PGA Tour app: Provides comprehensive tournament coverage and player information

Historical Context and Tournament Format
Understanding the history and format of the Presidents Cup can greatly enhance your appreciation of the event. This unique team competition has evolved since its inception, creating memorable moments and fostering international rivalries.
Brief History:
- Inaugural event: 1994 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, USA
- Conceived as a counterpart to the Ryder Cup, which features USA vs. Europe
- Held biennially, alternating years with the Ryder Cup
- United States leads the overall series with 11 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie
Tournament Format:
The Presidents Cup is contested over four days, featuring a total of 30 matches across various formats:
- Day 1: Five foursomes (alternate shot) matches
- Day 2: Five four-ball (best ball) matches
- Day 3: Four foursomes matches in the morning, four four-ball matches in the afternoon
- Day 4: 12 singles matches
Each match is worth one point, with ties resulting in a half-point for each team. The first team to reach 15.5 points wins the Presidents Cup. In the event of a 15-15 tie, the cup is shared.
This format encourages strategic decisions by team captains, as they must consider player strengths, fatigue, and chemistry when making pairings and determining the order of play.

How to Watch Presidents Cup 2021 Live Online for Free
People all over the globe want to follow golf tournaments—and they want to do so for free through online platforms.
The 2021 Presidents Cup, which is one of the major golf events of the year, is coming up in September 2022. And if you’re interested in watching it online, you can easily do so through several streaming options. For our readers, we’ve compiled some of the best ways to watch the Presidents Cup live and online in 2021.
The event is just weeks away and the closer we get to the game, the more excited the fan base seems to become. The 2021 Presidents Cup is set for September 19-25, 2022 at the Melbourne Golf Club, which is routinely ranked as one of the top golf courses in the world. The venue has the capacity to accommodate around 15,000 spectators.
The only other golf course that has hosted more national and international events than Royal Melbourne Golf Club is the Australian Golf Club.
It is because of this rich history that the Melbourne Golf Club is a fitting venue for the Presidents Cup. This year will be the third time it has hosted the tournament. Almost all the greatest golf players on the planet will travel the world to come to the Melbourne Golf Club this December.
With that out of the way, this is a good time to take a look at some of the most convenient ways you can watch the 2021 Presidents Cup via online streaming.
But first, let’s cover our bases:
Why a VPN Is the First Thing You Need to Watch the Presidents Cup
The thing about most of the services that we’ve mentioned below is that you never know which one is going to put geo-restrictions on your location. A VPN service is the best way to get around this, so that you can watch the Presidents Cup from anywhere in the world, no matter where the event is hosted or broadcasted.
With a VPN service, you can simply change your location to the country/region in which the streaming service you’re using works.
To start, you can choose from this list of the top VPN service providers on the market. After you’ve signed up for your preferred VPN service and downloaded/installed the app on your device, all you have to do is make sure you’re connected to a VPN server located in the right region. More on that next:
How to Watch the Presidents Cup in the U.S.
The best place to watch the Presidents Cup in the U.S. is NBC. Of course, if you have the right cable subscription then you can watch this premier golf tournament live on TV. NBC’s PGA TOUR LIVE package can cost around $60 for the season pass, but it does have a free preview option. NBC also provides users with a live streaming option.
You can also use streaming services such as CBS Sports, Sling TV and Hulu TV—all of which are available in the U.S. (Skip to this section of the guide for more.)
Amazon Prime’s PGA TOUR LIVE subscription also covers the Presidents Cup. There’s a 30-day free trial option, after which users will have to pay $12.99 for a full subscription.
A subscription to a streaming service is not exactly cheap. So what should you do when you want to watch the Presidents Cup on a budget?
Our answer: Golf TV is the way to go. The service has a section called Premium Clips and works on iOS and Android devices as well. It has some good quality golf content.
Here’s the catch though: Golf TV isn’t available in the U.S., so you will need to use a VPN to connect to a server located in Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia and Spain.
There are three passes available for Golf TV, and one of them is free:
- If you only want the basic content, you can continue to use the free account.
- For a larger selection of content, you will have to pay Golf TV around $89.99 annually or $9.99 per month for the All-Access pass. A seven-day free trial is included.
- The Standard pass costs $59.99 annually or $6.99 per month. This option also comes with a seven-day free trial.
This is important:
Make sure you connect to a VPN server outside of the U.S. before signing up for GolfTV and purchasing a pass.
More on Golf TV later in this guide.
How to Watch the Presidents Cup in the U.K.
For the U.K., you need Sky Sports. You may have to pay around $25 per month to use the service. With good device support, you can rest assured that you’ll get to watch the most important matches from the tournament. (Read more about Sky Sports later in this guide.)
If you don’t like Sky for some reason, your best options are Now TV or HayU.
This is important:
You may need to use a VPN to access Now TV from Ireland. The service costs around $6.99 per month for a golf tournament like Presidents Cup 2021 .
How to Watch the Presidents Cup in Australia
For Australia, the two main services you are looking at are Kayo Sports and Foxtel. Refer to the separate portions of both these services in this guide. Skip to here for Kayo or here for Foxtel.
As for the price, you can expect to pay $29 per month for Foxtel and $35 for Kayo Sports. Both services have good device support and loads of channels.
How to Watch the Presidents Cup in Canada
For people who want to watch the Presidents Cup in Canada, the best place is TSN (The Sports Network Canada). TSN is pretty much the best channel for any sport in Canada. The channel also offers a service called TSN Go.
You can download the app on both iOS and Android. The least you can expect to pay for TSN is $25 per month, but it has a 14-day free trial available.
How to Watch the Presidents Cup from Anywhere
Irrespective of your location, the safest option is NBC. So just get a VPN, change your location to the U.S. and start streaming. You will have to pay anywhere between $9.99 to $60, depending on the content you want. But the service does come with a preview option.
Best Methods to Watch 2021 Presidents Cup Live Online
If you want to watch more of the Presidents Cup than just the post-game highlights, we’ve listed several platforms you can use to tune in to the program:
CBS Sports
In terms of experience, there really is no other streaming service that can compete with CBS Sports. This channel has been streaming sports content for ages now.
Part of the reason why CBS Sports is so popular and reliable is its technical prowess. CBS Sports has some of the best engineers working behind the scenes to make sure that customers are able to watch their favorite sports streams without any interruptions or breaks.
CBS Sports is also popular due to its competitive packages. The price that CBS Sports asks in return for its services is very economical. If you’re used to paying money for services like Netflix and Hulu, you might find CBS Sports is an affordable option. You can also even stream content for free on CBS Sports, but not without advertisements.
CBS Sports commands the respect of the industry not only because it is affordable and reliable but also because it offers high-resolution streams, which is important if you’re watching any sporting event.
Once you have subscribed to one of CBS Sports packages you will find out relatively quickly that the quality of streams is noticeably high on a variety of supported devices.
With a CBS Sports subscription in your hands, you will never have to worry about missing out on watching Presidents Cup 2021 again.
Golf TV
Golf TV is another streaming site that is great at spending a good amount of resources in streaming golf events like the Presidents Cup 2021.
The thing which sets Golf TV apart from the rest of the streaming services it is Premium Clips. You may have to create an account on Golf TV to start streaming premium content for a limited time.
Golf TV is perhaps the best at supporting a diverse range of devices. It now supports almost all the major streaming platforms currently available on the market.
You can watch even the most obscure of golf matches on any of your devices and in good quality, which makes Golf TV superior to competitors in the sports streaming industry.
Foxtel
Foxtel allows you to watch almost any important golf match in any part of the world. The streaming service is a joint venture between Australian telecommunications corporation Telstra and U. S. media giant News Corp. This service has over 24 years of experience in the direct broadcasting, cable television and streaming industry.
Foxtel has also been involved in some IPTV (internet protocol television) streaming services.
Currently, the streaming service has focused its efforts on serving people in Australia, but that is not something you need to be concerned about if you know how to use a VPN service on your computer or mobile device.
Foxtel currently offers users multiple subscription plans. The most economical ones start at either $29 per month to $25 depending on where you live. If that sounds like a lot of money for introductory packages, then know that Foxtel packages offer a more comprehensive content library than other services.
With a Foxtel subscription, you can access content such as TV series (complete series rather than an incremental-release episode structure) and movies. You can view all such content at any given time and at any place. Some Foxtel packages even allow users to record and rewind live TV shows (including sports events) so you can save watching for later.
As for device support, you should have no problems in streaming content from iOS and/or Android devices.
Foxtel has the necessary technical capabilities to manage streaming content on different devices.
Right now, Foxtel’s website is offering a 10-day free trial to new users. That’s a great way to watch Presidents Cup 2021 live and online for free without having to commit your money to it long-term.
If you think your location may present a problem, then use a VPN service to get over any and all geo-restrictions. Click here to learn more about the best VPNs on the market.
With that out of the way, keep in mind that Foxtel Now is different from Foxtel Go. Even though both services come to us from the same company, they cater to a different set of audiences. For example, Foxtel Now costs $25 per month while Foxtel Go costs $100 for new customers.
In the case of Foxtel Go, you will also have to pay around $125 per month as a hardware fee. In your case, since you want to watch the Presidents Cup live online, you need to sign up for Foxtel Now, which costs $25 and comes with a 10-day trial. Foxtel Go does not come with a free trial.
Sky Sports
People living in the U.K. should have no problem using the Sky Sports streaming service to watch the entirety of the 2021 Presidents Cup live and online.
Sky Sports is considered one of the best television sports channels in the U.K. Sky is just one of the many divisions of U.S. media conglomerate Comcast. Sky is one of the most dominant subscription-based streaming services in the U.K., but it is also just as popular in surrounding countries such as Ireland.
Now, even though the main reason people subscribe to Sky Sports is that it streams content from some of the most sought-after names such as the Premier League and others, it also covers sports that may garner a smaller (but equally as passionate) audience, like golf.
Sky Sports has been doing business in the United Kingdom for well over a decade now and still offers its introductory plan for sports content for $25 per month. This price is a bit steep compared to other streaming services, but it is a good value for money. Besides, if you are looking for a streaming service that has an impeccable reputation, then Sky Sports is definitely the one you should stick with.
Sky Sports also currently covers all the major streaming devices.
If you live outside the U.K., then accessing Sky Sports may become a problem. To circumvent this problem, you will need to use a VPN service.
Once you have signed up for a good VPN service, you need to connect to the right VPN server (ideally located in the U.K. or in a country that Sky Sports supports) and then start the streaming process to watch 2021 Presidents Cup live and online without any hiccups.
Kayo Sports
Kayo Sports is another Australia sports streaming service that many online streamers continue to ignore for one reason or another.
While it is not as big as ESPN Plus or Netflix, and it only has a humble following on social media, Kayo Sports is one of the few streaming services in Australia that offers over 50 high-quality sports streaming channels that you can stream pretty much instantly. Not only that, it comes with advanced features such as live and on-demand video content.
Kayo Sports has three parent companies in the form of beIN, ESPN and Foxtel. This basically allows the streaming service to spend its capital and resources on distributing content that its audience would like. Kayo was created when Fox Sports won the broadcasting rights to stream Cricket Australia for six years by paying $1.2 billion AUD per season.
Now, the only problem with using Kayo is that you can only access the streaming service if you live in Australia. If you live somewhere else, but still want to access all the content that Kayo Sports offers to its users then you need to sign up for a VPN service. After installing a VPN app, you have to connect to a server that is located in Australia in order to stream content from the country.
You don’t exactly have to pay to watch Kayo Sports for certain content. Some of the latest audience data suggests that even though the streaming service has around 382,000 subscribers, it only has 331,000 paying customers.
As you’ll see on the Kayo Sports website, the service does not want to lock in customers by offering them lengthy subscription packages. Neither does it want users to sign on long contracts.
It works a bit like Netflix in the sense that you have to pay a monthly fee of $25 per month if you want the basic package and around $35 per month if you want to sign up for the premium package.
Both packages come with a 14-day free trial, so this is yet another way in which you can watch the Presidents Cup 2021 for free if you have access to a VPN service and Kayo Sports.
We admit that Kayo Sports is not the cheapest streaming service that you will ever sign up for but given the content, advanced features such as DVR and device support make Kayo a pretty good deal.
Hulu
Courtesy of Walt Disney and Comcast, we have Hulu as one of the best places you can watch Presidents Cup 2021 live and online. This streaming service is based in the U.S. and has made a name for itself by offering users exclusive content. Hulu claims that its streaming service offers enough content for it to become your one-stop solution for all TV needs.
The cheapest plan costs just $5.99 per month. Hulu also offers a free trial, so you don’t have to take any risks while signing up. However, if you don’t want to view advertisements while watching your favorite movie, TV series or a sports event, you may have to go for the no-ads subscription plan for $11.99 per month.
With that said, there is no guarantee that Hulu will stream the Presidents Cup 2021. You may have to sign up for the Hulu + Live subscription package, which costs around $44.99 per month. That may seem like a lot of money, but given the fact that the Live TV feature also brings content from various sports in the off-season, Hulu is totally within reasonable limits of offering a decent subscription package.
You can also read our complete review of Hulu Live TV here.
Sling TV
Sling TV is a relatively new streaming service, founded in January 2015. The U.S.-based over-the-top-television service offers live TV at $25 per month for the basic plan.
You can also take advantage of the 7-day free trial to watch the Presidents Cup 2021 for free.
If you have location problems with Sling TV, just use a good VPN service to connect to a city/state in the U.S. The service is also available in Puerto Rico.
YouTube TV
YouTube TV is the least known option for streaming any content apart from the videos that its independent content creators make. But it is true—YouTube does have a TV service which offers just about any type of content you could ever wish for.
You will have to pay around $49.99 per month though. With advanced features such as DVR and a flexible channel list, you can rest assured that your money is well spent with YouTube TV.
Again, there is a free trial available for new users, so you can potentially watch the entirety of the Presidential Cup 2021 for free by first signing up for the free trial and then canceling your subscription after the tournament is over. It goes without saying that if you don’t cancel your subscription, YouTube will charge you for the next whole month at the beginning of the billing cycle.
Other Honorable Mentions
2019 Presidents Cup: TV schedule, coverage, live stream, watch online, channel, feed, start times
Presidents Cup week nearly over, and in the United States, the golf is airing in primetime (ish). Tiger Woods’ United States team is taking on Ernie Els’ International team this week at Royal Melbourne in Australia as the U.S. looks to continue its dominance by winning its eight straight. That’s going to be tough with the Americans trailing 10-8 after four sessions. This after the U.S. was wrecked 4-1 on Day 1 action. A trailing team entering Day 3 has never come back to win the Presidents Cup.
As Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Co. look to repeat what they did in 2017 when they won 19-11 at Liberty National in the United States, the Americans were dealt a blow with a three-point deficit after the first day. They were able to mitigate disaster by performing better on Day 3, but there is still an uphill battle to climb.
Here’s a look at the schedule of events so you can watch all the action. But first, a refresher on the formats.
Four-ball: Two-golfer teams representing each country square off against each other. Each of the four golfers plays their own ball and the best score from a single player counts for his team for that hole. For example, if one International golfer makes a birdie on the par-4 first hole but his partner and both Americans make par, the International team gets 3, the U.S. gets a 4 and the International team goes 1 up.
Foursomes: Two-golfer teams representing each country square off against each other. This time, however, the players have to switch off hitting the same ball until it rolls in the cup. Players have to switch off hitting tee shots no matter who made the putt on the previous hole. Scoring is still match-play style, but there is more strategy involved here, and the U.S. has struggled in this format at the Ryder Cup over the last few years.
Singles: One-on-one matches played out over the course of the day.

We do not offer the typical video service. What we do is film entire soccer games in a professional manner using HD cameras mounted on 30 foot tall tripods. Filming from this height allows us to capture the best and most advantageous view of the field (the same way soccer games are seen on TV).
Sports Video USA is proud to be able to participate again this year in the prestigious 2021 US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup as the official video service provider. For the tournament, we have created a special “team package” to offer at the event. This team package includes us filming your entire game and then uploading it online in 1080p high definition, for which purchasing teams receive a private digital link. Games are uploaded online, and links to stream the games are sent out via e-mail within 10 days after the end of the tournament. Filmed games serve as wonderful keepsakes and are used by many teams for tactical analysis. This special team package is offered for $249.00, two game pack $498.00, 3 game package is offered for $747.00. Any extra game like semis or finals will be $249.00
Please note: if a team or player needs video files of games for the purpose of editing or creating a highlight reel, we can accommodate and provide an SD card with the game files(one per team), which will be mailed out within the same time frame as the links (10 days after the end of the tournament). The files can then be shared among the team members wishing to utilize them.
If you would like us to film any games for you at the 2021 US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup, simply e-mail [email protected] with your game information in advance (date, time, park, field #, team) and it will be confirmed in our schedule. Please keep in mind that this is a large tournament with high demand, so do try to schedule in advance if you are interested. Feel free to contact me if you are interested.
Thank you, and best of luck!

Presidents Cup 2017 live stream: How to watch Thursday matches online
The PGA Tour season is officially over, but that doesn’t mean golf has packed up and gone into hibernation. The Presidents Cup tees off Thursday afternoon from Liberty National in New Jersey, one of the most scenic courses in the country and a perfect venue for this made-for-TV battle (whatever you may think of its architectural merits).
The Presidents Cup has less hype and history than the Ryder Cup, but it features the same American stars playing under many of the same formats and pressures we’re used to every other year against the Euros. We just don’t get match play that often at the highest levels of golf, and we rarely get any kind of a team format. So it’s stupid to get picky about these things — whether it’s the Presidents Cup or the Ryder Cup or the Solheim Cup, the format is always a welcome change and usually delivers.
The American side is heavily favored to improve their overall Presidents Cup record to 10-1-1 since the event started in the mid-90s. It has a core of players who should lead these rosters for the next decade in both Presidents and Ryder cups. Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger — they’re all young studs and prospects who could easily populate the roster every single year. And so many of them come to this Presidents Cup in form and ready to whip an underdog international team.
This event is obviously a dramatic departure from so many ways that golf operates each week, including the TV coverage. There’s such a limited group to focus on, with only 20 players on the course on Thursday and across just five holes. The pace is more manageable and it’s hard for a player or match to get completely lost, even if it’s a blowout. If a player is in the lineup and on the course, you’re going to see him play (which isn’t always the case each week on the PGA Tour, as hundreds of angry tweets at CBS over the years would corroborate).
Thursday’s session features five matches and the format is foursomes, which is alternate shot. Each two-man team is playing just one ball, alternating shot from tee to the hole. The other two-man format is four-ball, where each player plays his own ball. But in foursomes, with only two balls in play, the pace can really move. There’s just less to deliberate over and far less shots compared to four players playing their own ball. Matches can also obviously end well before the 18th hole, lasting just a few hours as opposed to the interminable five-hour rounds that are possible during stroke play PGA Tour events.
With a limited universe to cover, there are also not the usual streaming options of a PGA Tour event. There’s no need for a featured holes stream or a featured groups stream focusing on one specific part of a massive tournament. Here, it’s really all contained in the TV broadcast, which will cover every session from the first tee ball of the first match. Golf Channel and NBC have the coverage this week, with GC taking the reins early in the week on Thursday and Friday. They will be live at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday and your one streaming option is the simulcast of that coverage. Here’s your media schedule:

Presidents Cup 2019 TV schedule, channel, pairings, tee times for Day 4 singles matches
The 13th biennial Presidents Cup is here for 2019 as the United States team is pitted against the International team at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Black Rock, Australia from Dec. 12-15.
Over a period of four days, the two teams will compete using a match play scoring system. This year, the teams are captained by Tiger Woods and Ernie Els for the U.S. and International teams respectively.
The U. S. is 10-1-1 all time in the Presidents Cup with the lone loss coming in 1998 at Royal Melbourne. Unlike the Ryder Cup, which pits the U.S. against Europe, the Presidents Cup features an international team assembled with players from non-European nations around the world.
In 2017, the Presidents Cup was held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J., where the U.S. won its sixth straight tournament 19-11.
Here is all of the information for how to watch the 2019 Presidents Cup, including a full TV schedule, tee times for Tiger Woods, pairings and more.

The main world event was the meeting of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden
Two hours ago, Anatoly Antonov, the Russian Ambassador to the United States of America, flew to Washington from Moscow. This means that one of the agreements reached on Wednesday, June 16, by Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva, has been fulfilled.
The library at the Villa La Grange, where an old globe stands, on which the world looked different than it is now, has become a place of conversation about where everything has come down to this day. Several hours to discuss what has accumulated over the years.
The tops of the Alps are visible in the window of the presidential liner, that is, Geneva is already very close. Vladimir Putin flew to the summit from Sochi.Board number one swept over the Black Sea, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Germany. On the way, 3.5 hours, which, apparently, the president spent in his office.
Closed gangway, no pompous ceremony, not even a carpet. Nothing to distract from the essence of the visit. Putin takes off his jacket, greets the journalists, and now the motorcade drives off towards the Villa La Grange.
Biden arrived a day earlier, which is why half of Geneva was closed on Tuesday. Why is there Geneva. The liner with the Russian delegation was forced to cut circles for an hour at
And that was just the beginning. Elements of air defense systems were deployed in the habitually quiet Geneva, and even an anti-aircraft gun was spotted in the city center. Kilometers of barbed wire have been unwound.
On the night before the summit, the water area of the lake and all entrances to the Villa La Grange were closed. The townspeople viewed the motorcade of Putin and Biden through several echelons of the cordon. In general, Switzerland has done its best to create conditions for a meeting between the two presidents. But while there are no leaders, there is no one to talk to at the villa: “I do not speak English. Only Italian and French. ” The villa is an 18th century building where Presidents Biden and Putin will meet face to face.
It is clear that journalists from the USA have no problems with the language. Americans say: all interviews are through the press service. “Especially the Russian media,” adds CNN reporter Matthew Chance. Only Matt Lee was not afraid of talking with journalists from Moscow, who, as you know, is not afraid to say anything to anyone at all.
“I will be very surprised if a breakthrough is achieved today. Probably the main topic is the return of ambassadors, the resumption of the work of the general consulates and embassies, this is what both sides want, ”says Associated Press reporter Matthew Lee.
As for the breakout. Nobody expected this in Russia either. Moreover, first of all, Putin.
“I do not expect anything breakthrough in Russian-American relations, nothing that could shock,” the Russian president said.
All this is impossible given the current level of relations between Russia and the United States.
“Our bilateral relations have degraded to the lowest level,” said Vladimir Putin.
The presidents of the two superpowers have not seen in person since 2019. And in the old days, for example, only with Bush Jr. Putin met almost 30 times. However, all this happened before the US withdrawn from the ABM Treaty, before the deployment of missiles in Poland and Romania, before the collapse of the INF Treaty and the Open Skies Treaty by the Americans, before the Crimea, sanctions, accusations of cyberattacks, before the war against Nord Stream. That is why now, before the meeting, the Kremlin did not count on a breakthrough.
“I hope that conditions will be created in order to take further steps to normalize Russian-American relations and resolve the issues facing our countries,” the Russian president said.
The return of the ambassadors is the first step. Antonov and Sullivan have already left Washington and Moscow for so-called consultations after a famous interview for several months.
Journalist: You know Vladimir Putin. Do you think he’s a killer?
Joe Biden: Yes.
Hearing the same question a day before meeting with Putin, Biden was temporarily speechless. The media fueled, but the presidents were careful in choosing their words ahead of the summit.
Joe Biden: Look, I mean, he made it clear that … He’s smart, tough, and I would say he’s a worthy opponent.
V. Putin: He is experienced, I hope, balanced, accurate, and I very much hope that our meeting will be held in a positive manner.
Ambassadors arrived as part of delegations. Here’s John Sullivan.Obviously, now the US Deputy Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland already knew the answer. However, it was too early to speak. The corteges have just arrived. The Russian Foreign Minister arrived separately from everyone.
The first of the presidents is the Swiss Guy Parmelin. Here he is trying to spy out Putin’s limousine through the sealed windows of the villa. There are innumerable “Aurus” in the cortege.
Now it’s Biden’s turn. The car stops. However, the US President does not come out. For some unknown reason, he sits inside for more than a minute, leaving Parmelen awkwardly alone. Finally a handshake. And quite a reasonable question from our American colleagues.
– How are you feeling, sir?
A crowd of journalists breaks out of Biden’s motorcade onto the lawn in front of the villa. Most of the US press has just arrived. At any time, presidents can go out to journalists for a historic handshake.
At that moment no one knows yet that it has already taken place. Backstage, inside the villa. The smiling presidents were captured only by TASS photographer Mikhail Metzel.Judging by the pictures, it can be assumed that there was also the first face-to-face conversation of the presidents. But still the protocol obliged to go out on the porch.
“Dear Presidents, I wish you fruitful work, fruitful dialogue for the benefit of your countries and the whole world. Good luck and goodbye, ”said Guy Parmelin.
This second handshake between Putin and Biden will go down in official history. The presidents left and this is where it started! Journalists of the two countries rushed through the tiny door, behind which the first meeting of the two presidents was to begin at any moment. The White House press service insisted on organizing the filming in its own way – to let the press in when Putin and Biden were already inside. And here’s the result. Crush and complete confusion.
Presidents won’t wait, so every moment counts at times like these. Here Putin, Biden, Foreign Minister Lavrov and Secretary of State Blinken are ready to start. To the screams of the Americans. An elementary task – to get 15 journalists from each country turned into a collapse. To help out the press service of the head of the United States tried to guard the president of Russia.
All this had already lasted about 10 minutes and could have lasted as long as you like. At this time, the presidents, which in itself is unprecedented, waited and shrugged in surprise.
“Mr. President, I want to thank you for the initiative of today’s meeting. I know that you had a long trip, a lot of work, nevertheless, many issues have accumulated in Russian-American relations that require discussion at the highest level. I hope our meeting will be productive, ”said Vladimir Putin.
“Thank you very much, and as I said, meeting face to face is always beneficial. We are trying to determine where we have common interests, and where we have disagreements, we can do everything in order to rationally and predictably discuss these issues, like two great powers, ”said Joseph Biden.
The presidents expressed their opinion, but the journalists did not even think to disperse.
“I feel that until all the press is over, we’ll sit and disperse, we will have to go to dinner,” the Russian president joked.
As soon as the guards asked to leave, the Americans again provoked a scuffle. Biden’s eyes widened at what he saw. It can be assumed that at that moment Lavrov was thinking about the press. As a result, because of the White House journalists, negotiations began with a scandal and with a delay. And that’s why:
“I shouted about Navalny and Ukraine, no reaction”, “I asked if you trust each other, and Biden did not answer,” American journalists share with each other.
No wonder that after this, only a photographer was allowed to negotiate with the expanded staff. And here is how everything could have gone if the Americans had not intervened.
Russian journalists visited the villa just before the summit. The same library and the same globe. Everything is filmed. No scandal. On the day of the summit, the presidents showed up at this door only almost four hours after the start of the talks. But judging by the gestures and mood before leaving, all this was not in vain.

On November 1, the first Russian Championship under the auspices of the RFPL ended. At the end of the championship, we finally understood what exactly our Premier League is not inferior to similar tournaments in Western Europe. If during the formation of our Russian democracy the clubs were led by business coaches, now the presidents are in charge of all matters.
RFPL in this regard is represented as the Russian Federation of Amateur Presidents. Lovers of what? Don’t think anything bad – soccer, of course. Therefore, it seems interesting to assess the results of the national championship from the point of view of the owners of domestic clubs.
CSKA
The president of the army club Evgeny Giner is one of those to whom practically no one has any complaints in CSKA. You can scold Gazzaev, the Berezutsky brothers, but Lennoritch is practically not criticized. In the end, it was with him that the army team regained the championship title, set transfer records. Finally, and most importantly, the CSKA children’s school was raised to its feet, and this, apparently, is the main merit of Giner. As for the army team’s setbacks in the matches with Vardar, the president has nothing to do with it.However, here Giner also managed to score points. During the period of the harshest criticism of Gazzaev, he did not go to the resignation of the head coach, showing his principles. As for all kinds of rumors about the behind-the-scenes activities of the head of CSKA, you shouldn’t comment on them. Rumors are rumors. Their destiny is the guest books of Internet sites, and sports bars.
Zenit
Vitaly Mutko after the championship decided to leave the presidency at Zenit. I went for a promotion – to the Federation Council. This leader also has talent.I went on a bold experiment with the invitation of a little-known Czech coach Petrzhela, kept Kerzhakov until the end of the season, and in addition established good relations with Valentina Matvienko. Mutko’s disadvantages mainly relate to the organizational activities of the RFPL. However, this does not apply to the St. Petersburg club.
Rubin:
There is no presidential position in Rubin Kazan. The club is a municipal enterprise. However, everyone knows roughly who is behind the club from the capital of Tatarstan.Kazan Mayor Kamil Iskhakov (at the same time head of the Rubin sports club) did a lot for the formation of the bronze “Rubin”, who a couple of years ago promised to bring European cups to the city for the 1000th anniversary of the city. “Lokomotiv” including) is no laughing matter. In Tatarstan, they don’t joke about sports at all, an example of which are hockey “Ak Bars” and basketball “UNICS.” Now it turned out that Mintimer Shaimiev is also not indifferent to football. Probably this will last for a long time.
Lokomotiv
One of the few clubs where the personality of the head coach outshines the head of the club. Fortunately, an excellent Semin-Filatov tandem has developed here, where both leaders understand each other perfectly. This is the guarantee of Lokomotiv’s stability. The fourth place is, of course, a retreat from past positions. However, the love of fans all over the country, comparing railway workers with the Russian national team at the club level, is dearer than bronze medals.
Dynamo
Dynamo fans expected a lot from President Yuri Zavarzin. In the end, after all, we all remember how discreetly but effectively this man worked in “Spartak”. “Spartak-Cola”, “Spartak” restaurant again. “Cola” is true all already drunk, and the restaurant was renamed, but that’s not the point. The fans of the “blue-white” for the medals, for their former glory, are painfully missed. The management literally blinded everyone with a powerful budget, stadium renovation projects and glitter of gold. As a result, the leader Koroman went to “Wings” for a better salary, no analogue of Olic or Yaroshik was bought, Prokopenko began to think about leaving, and some of the team’s games were played to the whistle of spectators. The main merit of the management of “Dynamo” is to attract more and more attention to the figure of Lev Yashin. Well, if there is no present, then let the past be remembered at least.
Saturn REN TV
One of those clubs where the actual head is the head of the region. In this case, it is Boris Gromov. This governor loves football very much. And he goes to matches, and during the break he is ready to go to the locker room to scold the players. And harsh in the military. Shevchuk did not fulfill the task last year – down with it.Shevchenko gave up a few rounds before the end – to resign. Whether such a policy is correct is a very controversial issue. The example of replacing Shevchenko with Romantsev suggests that it is not always necessary to rush to conclusions.
Shinnik
As Pobegalov is calm at press conferences, the management of Yaroslavl “Shinnik” is not distinguished by a violent disposition. Quietly, the team passed the championship. I got to third place, dropped to 12th. As a result, I found my place in the middle. Without storms and shocks.
Wings of the Soviets
German Tkachenko this year was remembered for several reasons at once. First, he refused to sell Tikhonov to Spartak. Secondly, he helped Smertin to leave for England. Thirdly, I bought Koroman from Dynamo. Fourth, I started looking for a new head coach. Fifth, he did not satisfy his personal ambitions to become the president of the best non-Moscow team. The latter probably outweighs everything else.
Torpedo
The “Torpedo” management has made an act this year with a capital letter.Mr. Aleshin refused to sell the club to Mr. Mamut. Not impressed by his talk about the future greatness of “Torpedo”. It really wasn’t an easy decision. Many people still scold Alyoshin for this. And he is apparently quite satisfied with the calm coach Petrenko, the leisurely game “Torpedo” and the fans of the club, whom it is not always easy to see in the bowl of “Luzhniki”.
Spartak
You can write a lot and for a long time about Mr. Chervichenko. Perhaps it was Andrei Vladimirovich who explained to many what a “president” is.After he decided to take all power into his own hands, he: fired two head coaches, personally traveled and fought for the players, whom he later tried to get rid of, gathered 7 goalkeepers in the team, told the whole country about the collection of Aivazovsky’s paintings, named his own club ” hemorrhoids “, promised to return Tikhonov and invite a foreign coach, refused to leave for Rostov. And that is not all. Isn’t it a bit too much for a person whose club fell to 10th place in the table for the first time in many years?
Rostov
Local leader Ivan Savvidi experienced a rise in his own popularity this year.At the beginning of the season, everyone was in a hurry to interview him. We admired the management’s insight when buying African players, the team’s reaching the Cup final. At the end of the championship, “Rostov” was somehow forgotten. Savvidi himself also tried to find a foreign coach, but apparently unsuccessfully.
Spartak-Alania
Whether Vladikavkaz residents had leadership at the beginning of the season is a big question. One gets the impression that one club started the season and ended with another. The similarity between the two teams is minimal.Despite the final 12th place, the season should be considered unsatisfactory.
Rotor
With Goryunov’s “Rotor” everything is clear. The club has no money. Gone are the days when the president of Volgograd residents found a common language with the leadership of the city and region. Now Goryunov is always betting on “the wrong candidates.” As a result, the team is forced to sell its leaders and hope that the local football school will not be depleted of talent.
Torpedo-Metallurg
A very strange team.Throughout the off-season, its new owners from Norilsk Nickel promised to invest a lot of money in it. They promised to buy Gascoigne. This is how the first half of the championship passed. In the offseason, the sponsor again promised to invest a lot of money. Bracamonte was acquired, which did not immediately begin to play at a satisfactory level, and several more not very intelligible players. After the club escaped from relegation, Norilsk Nickel again promised to invest a lot of money in Tor-Met. Will they buy Gascoigne again?
Uralan
Once Ilyumzhinov promised to bring Maradona to Elista. Then the president of Kalmykia fell in love with chess more. Of course, he was not completely indifferent to football. He invited the young specialist Shalimov, and with him the Italians. As a result, we learned that not only Christian Vieri plays in Italy. We found out that not every young specialist is ready to conquer heights right away. Both those and others now go home. As well as “Uralan”. And Ilyumzhinov is just right for another year to think about how much he loves football.
Chernomorets
The club, whose coaches changed even in the offseason, could hardly count on much. They say that the Krasnodar Territory, on which the leadership of the Black Sea people depended, has no money for two teams. Perhaps this explains the fact that the Novorossiysk club went down. The main thing is that he does not suffer the fate of another regional team – the Sochi “Pearl”.

Channel One Cup.When Presidents Cry
Igor Surkis’s interview to the newspaper “Soviet Sport”
NOSTALGIA. It seems that a lot of time has passed since the moment football Russia parted with football Ukraine. But the memories of past battles between Spartak and Dynamo Kiev are still fresh in the memory of those who participated in them when they were a player, or, as a fan, watched them from the stands. The Channel One Cup is a return to the glorious past.
THE GAME OF “VISHCHOGO GATUNKU”
– You are probably hardly satisfied with the draw result (2: 2) of the match against Spartak? – a question to the president of Dynamo Kiev, Igor Surkis, with whom we are sitting in the lobby of the David Inter-Continental hotel in Tel Aviv. At the next table is his elder brother Hryhoriy Surkis, president of the Football Federation of Ukraine and a newly made member of the UEFA executive committee. Although he voted for Lennart Johansson, who eventually lost to Michel Platini in the fight for the UEFA presidency, he nevertheless entered the governing body of the Union. No wonder: after the Ukrainian team made it to the 2006 World Cup in the quarterfinals, the country’s prestige has grown significantly.
– The result is not the main thing, the game is important, – Igor Surkis answers. – I would not like to talk about its quality now – both Spartak and Dynamo are just preparing for the season. But the glow … of a gatunka (of the highest quality – the president of Dynamo finds suitable words in Ukrainian to express thoughts. – Note by K.K.)!
– Did you remember something from the matches of the past?
– I remembered, and even “burst into tears.”I, of course, exaggerate, but at some moments before the game, during it and after, tears welling up in my eyes. Our people living here in Israel, even young people, honor the traditions of both Spartak and Dynamo Kiev. I did not expect that there would be such a stir and such a warm attitude towards us.
– Why?
– Because Spartak has faded into the background in the last few years, like Dynamo, which after the death of Valery Vasilyevich Lobanovsky does not show the previous results. But people remember the matches between our clubs. And when people have memory, I think teams have a future.
COLLECT 100 THOUSAND AT THE STADIUM!
Not only fans remember, but also coaches and players. For the current mentor of Kiev, defender Anatoly Demyanenko, meetings on the field with Sergei Rodionov, the forward of Spartak, who is helping Vladimir Fedotov today, has always become an event.
“There was no need to tune anyone,” Rodionov recalls.- And the task was always the same: to win both at home and away. We beat Kiev by controlling the ball. I think the fans have not yet forgotten the famous Kiev pressure in the first minutes, when Dynamo players pounced together, three or even four at the opponent who was in possession of the ball. It was hard. But if at that moment it was possible to get out of the pressure, free zones were formed in other parts of the field, through which it was possible to attack.
Last Saturday, when Spartak met at Dynamo at the Channel One Cup, it was in the first minutes of the match that what happened more than once in the matches of these teams in Soviet times was repeated.Spartak opened the scoring in a counterattack, and then scored the second goal after a corner kick, earned again after a counterattack.
– I did not expect such a turn of events, – Igor Surkis admits. – It is all the more valuable that my team won back. And how could the public not like this? (The audience really behaved as if the fate of the first place in the USSR championship depended on the outcome of the meeting. – Approx. K.K.)
I like the idea of holding a tournament with the participation of the best teams of the former USSR.The Channel One Cup is its prototype. I think if Spartak or CSKA came to Kiev a couple of times during the season, and Dynamo and Shakhtar came to Moscow, 100 thousand spectators would gather at the stadiums again. In the 90s, Kiev got used to matches at the highest level – in the Champions League or in qualifiers with the participation of the Ukrainian national team. Today, 2-4 thousand people gather for the games of the domestic championship. Of course, not enough. But I can understand the fans: we cannot yet give them a spectacle in every game.
– How do you feel about moving the Channel One Cup to Moscow?
– The tournament in its current format is of interest to the participants anyway. Two million dollars in prize money is a serious amount. But if you fantasize, then I see nothing wrong with holding the Cup in Moscow. You just need to agree on the timing and composition of the participants. Why, for example, cannot Lokomotiv, Zenit, Dynamo or, say, Saturn play in the tournament? Each of these teams has its own style and fans.
LOBANOVSKY’S PLANK
– Do you follow the Russian championship so closely?
– I follow everything that happens in the post-Soviet space.I am interested in how football is developing. Whatever one may say, there is correspondence competition between us. In the 90s, the Russian national team looked good at the qualifying tournaments of the world and European championships. In this century, Ukraine has added. Isn’t reaching the quarterfinals of the world championship an achievement?
For the general manager of FC Moskva, Yuri Belous, the tournament for the Channel One Cup is another opportunity to evaluate the performance of CSKA and Spartak, with which the citizens will have to compete in the new season.
– Are the goals set so high?
– We have been in the top six in the Russian championship for two years in a row. It’s time to aim for more. It would be nice to become the fourth, it would be even better to get into the prize-winners. By the way, now we will find out what is happening at the training camp in Italian Coverciano, where the team drove yesterday.
Belous dials the number of head coach Leonid Slutsky, and when he answers, he starts asking questions about accommodation conditions, food, fields and everything related to the normal conduct of the training camp. Everything is fine.
– What is the rivalry between Spartak and Dynamo for you?
– Although I myself come from Lugansk, Spartak – Dynamo and for me has always been the match of the year.Well, today both clubs are to some extent exemplars for me in terms of organization of work, infrastructure and selection of players.
We continue our conversation with Igor Surkis.
– People of my generation, who are 40-50 years old today, remember very well how they stood in line for tickets or begged for an extra one a few minutes before the start of the match between Dynamo and Spartak, – he says. – I have no doubt that everything would be the same today. We need matches of this level. Lobanovskiy has raised the bar so high that fans refuse to watch games that do not meet the old standards.Real Madrid, Barcelona, Lyon – they will go. And remember the Champions League semifinal of the 99th against Bayern? Historical event! Unfortunately, there is no interest in most of the matches of the Ukrainian championship. I do not take principled meetings with Shakhtar or Dnipro, they still attract attention. Other teams also fight with Kiev, they may even take points away, but then they lose 3-4 matches in a row.
SUPPORT ON YOUR OWN
It is difficult to disagree with Surkis that the Saturday meeting between Spartak and Dynamo could become an ornament of any tournament. Spartak took the lead 2: 0, Dynamo won back 2: 2, and until the last minute the outcome of the match at the Bloomfeld stadium in Tel Aviv was not clear to anyone.
“The current Dynamo is a modern infrastructure, a solid budget, a development program for 5-10 years ahead,” Surkis continues. – I would like more of my pupils to play for Dynamo. At Spartak, it seems, they adhere to the same line.
– Are there any future stars in mind?
– Zozulya, Mishchenko, Oleinik – their names do not tell anyone yet, but we associate great hopes with these players, the pupils of the club.I would like them to acquit them.
Surkis is not disingenuous when he says that he closely follows everything that happens in the republics of the former USSR. Russia is, of course, in the first place on their list.
– Which Russian footballer do you consider to be the stars of the European level?
– I have never hidden that I would like to see Alexander Kerzhakov in Dynamo. But he chose Sevilla – his right. Stars – Arshavin, Ignashevich, the Berezutsky brothers … Yes, almost the entire team.Loskov with his bright head, Pogrebnyak, who recently announced himself.
– There are also enough stars in Ukraine.
– This category would include those who competed at the World Championships in Germany. When I remember the 1/8 finals match against Switzerland, and others too, goosebumps run. We watched them together – the leaders of Dynamo, Shakhtar, Dnipro … Between us, what to hide, a difficult relationship, but at that moment we felt a sense of unity. What does it matter who Shovkovsky or Vashchuk, Gusev or Milevsky, Shevchenko or Gusin play for? Was the president of Shakhtar Rinat Akhmetov happy only for Tymoshchuk and Svidersky (the players of the Donetsk club.- Note by K.K.)? Or was our colleague Kolomoisky (owner of Dnepr. – K.K.’s note) admired only by Yezersky and Rusol? We hugged when the Ukrainian national team was scoring goals or when Shovkovsky was helping out. Together we went into the locker room to congratulate the players. There is a big difference between club football and national team football. Only a national team can unite the country, make people remember about patriotism. The national team will make progress, the whole football will rise, because the youth will have someone to take an example from.Surely, in Russia they think the same.
LEFT BUT WE WILL Catch up
No one will argue with the president of Dynamo in this. As for the club, the Dynamo ideal of Surkis is a team of the 1998-99 model, headed by Valery Lobanovsky. Not a team of stars, although Rebrov and Shevchenko played for it, but a team-star.
Tom Dynamo didn’t care who to play against. Both Barcelona and Real won. In Lobanovsky, each played a role. Like in a theater, where the actor knows where on stage and at what point he should deliver his monologue or his line.It is a pity that Valery Vasilyevich left so early.
– There is a lot of talk in Russia about the need to reduce the number of legionnaires. They say that most of them take other people’s places, do not give the opportunity to prove themselves talented youth.
– We also have enough legionnaires to do without. Foreigners should be invited carefully, select those who are really capable of strengthening the team. It’s hard for me to complain about the Dynamo legionaries. Most of them are high-class craftsmen. The same, I think, can be said by Rinat Akhmetov about his foreigners at Shakhtar, and Yevgeny Giner about the CSKA legionnaires. But in the future, you need to rely on your own. They are clearer. I still cannot forgive myself the mistake I made by inviting Argentinean Roberto Nanni to Dynamo.
– Fernando Cavenaghi’s variation in Spartak?
– Looks like. Nani scored a lot – a typical player at the forefront of the attack. This is exactly what we needed. But there is a football player, and there is a person who must adapt to the conditions of life in a new country for him.We tried to understand what kind of person he was, but we didn’t fully figure it out. Hence the problems. Something similar happened to Cavenaghi, right?
– Yes. And tell me, Igor Mikhailovich, in your opinion, Ukrainian football lags far behind Russian?
– Lagging behind. As far as I can not judge. Russia has more money, we have more enthusiasm. Indeed, by and large in Ukraine, serious investments go only to Dynamo and Shakhtar. Lately, however, Dnipro has been rising. We would have to unite with Russia – I mean football, then, I think, the development would have gone faster both here and there.I understand that in reality this is not very possible. But why not dream? In the end, the Channel One Cup is also a combined mini-championship of Russia and Ukraine. So Roman Abramovich and Channel One came up with a good deed. On Saturday I returned from the stadium to the hotel and watched the match “Spartak” – “Dynamo” in the recording. This is a sight to behold! As if he returned twenty years ago.
