Oregon releases new duck uniforms

Oregon, known for its flashy, fashion forward uniforms, announced a new uniform set to be worn at Saturday’s game against Colorado. They resemble the university’s mascot — the Oregon Duck.

“Once a Duck, Always a Duck” looks to be the name of the new uniform. As for what they look like, well they are as mad scientist amazing as you would expect — the helmets are sparkling silver and white with a simple green Oregon “O” logo on the side and finished with an orange facemask, meant to resemble a duck’s bill. Jerseys are green with yellow accents, including the Oregon duck logo on the shoulders as well as “Once a Duck, Always a Duck” embroidered around the neck. The pants are white and stretch down to meet an orange sock and cleat combo, resembling a duck’s feet. Overall, it looks different from what Oregon’s uniforms have been looking like as of late, but it seems like something fans have been looking for the past few years.

Oregon is going back to their roots with these uniforms, a change from the space age uniforms we come to expect out of Eugene.

After having three players go in the first round last WNBA Draft, no Oregon Ducks will hear their name called later this month during the 2021 event. 

Why? Well, Oregon Ducks senior Erin Boley did not opt-in to the 2021 WNBA Draft pool and James Crepea of The Oregonian reports her playing career is over. 

Oregon’s Erin Boley did not opt-in to WNBA Draft. She made it clear she is not returning in 2021-11. Am told this is the end of her basketball career, former Gatorade national HS player of the year.

“During this season I really wanted to focus as much as I can on basketball and not make any hard set but most likely I’ll be moving on to a new path after graduation,” Boley said prior to the NCAA Tournament last month.

Rather than pursue basketball opportunities overseas, she will begin her professional career away from the court.

Before enrolling in Eugene, Boley was the 2016 Gatorade National Player of the Year and three-time Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year before signing with Notre Dame. 

She played one season with the Fighting Irish before transferring to Oregon and sitting out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules. 

As a redshirt sophomore, Boley started all 38 games, hit a team-high 108 three-pointers, and helped lead Oregon to the first Final Four in program history.

The next season, she started all 33 games for the No. 2 Oregon Ducks who were favorites to win the National Championship before the tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus. 

As a senior, Boley was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List (nation’s top small forward), started all but one game (which she missed due to an injury), and surpassed the 1,000 career points threshold (33rd to do so in program history). 

Since finishing her playing career, Boley has returned to her hometown of Hodgenville, Kentucky.

When approaching, his incomparable scream is heard. He shouts in a peculiar way: Aaaa-Aaaa, – and when he is on the ground, he begins to rumble: urrr-urrr. Even as a child in Kalmykia, we went fishing, where a couple of ogars often sat by the water, talking among themselves. Then we started trying to imitate their cry.And the excited male took off and began to circle above us. We liked it, and we did it again. The male turned around and flew up again. In the summer they had ducklings, and the female swam with them, and the male took off and flew menacingly above us, screaming. These ducks are so fearless that, as they say, they drive foxes out of their holes in order to breed their offspring there. How they are driven out, I did not see, but the fact that they nest in fox holes is true. I myself have repeatedly observed how early in the morning the male leaves the hole and either immediately takes off, or moves away a few meters and, taking off, inspects the territory, after which the female comes out with the ducklings.Already in autumn, on the same pond, we saw more than two families with already grown ducklings, no different from their parents.

In the fall, they huddle in large flocks and begin to gain fat in preparation for the flight south. Their relatives join them from the center of Russia. And already a huge mass of birds are fattening in the fields.

It is forbidden to shoot the fire in the spring, as this bird nests with us. But in the fall you can. Previously, they did not specifically hunt for him, only occasionally, when luck smiled and the flock swooped down on the hunter, they were hunted.This bird is very sensitive and careful, like a goose. Once we got on a flight, then we were just starting to hunt. We had guns and cartridges, clothes – army camouflage, UAZ and shovels. We drive up to the pond, and there are thousands of just arrived ogars, who swim and, tired, drink water. We drove up close to the pond about twenty meters, the ducks just swam away and did not take off. Some of the fire guards took off and began to circle. Our elder uncle, the hunter, was ordered to dig, then scare them away, and when they return, we will hunt them.For about forty minutes we dug holes, threw the earth to the water, listened to the scream of the flock and asked: can we shoot at least once? After all, it was twenty meters before them. But no, we dig. The perplexed ducks looked at us and swam; there was a livestock enclosure nearby, and they were probably used to the noise and people. When they dug the holes, loaded the shovels into the UAZ, my uncle said: now I’ll drive the car away, I’ll come and we’ll hunt. He started the car, the flock took off with a loud noise and flew over the horizon. Uncle came, sat down in his pit, and until late at night we saw no more duck.We often remember this story with laughter when we get together. And my uncle says: really, why didn’t we shoot then?

After talking with him and understanding what we need, we began to do. Fortunately, we have everything for hunting, we just lacked stuffed animals. I learned to beckon from childhood. We bought several stuffed animals. Here, as in the goose hunt, the more the better. We took a little for a test. We waited for the flight, traveled for a long time across the steppe and found a good flock. We made reconnaissance and chose a place for hunting. We answer him with a voice and hear how he, changing direction, flies towards us. A flock of one hundred heads in a few minutes, spreading their wings, goes to our landing profiles.Here they are already close, you can see their black legs. Come on – and we open fire on command. Several dead birds fall. Hurray, the hunt took place, everything turned out exactly as we planned. Let’s go and collect the dead birds. We hear again the approaching voices of the fire, again a raid – and several more birds fell out of the flock. We went to collect, but one is missing. Everyone saw three birds fall. We began to search and see how the wounded animals are already running away a hundred meters away. While they ran after him, they frightened several raids of birds. The ogar is very strong on the wound, so if you saw that the wounded animal, it is better to finish it off immediately, not sparing the cartridge.Otherwise, he will just run away.

The raids continued for half an hour. The flocks were ten, twenty, sometimes large, a hundred heads. Here, like on a goose, the main thing is to choose the right place. A lot depends on him. This should be a fly-over place, as the shot flock flies by and sits behind you. And if you hunt in the place where they feed, then they will fly off to the side, and the rest will not fly up to your profiles, but sit down to the flock that has flown off to the side.

Years of the bird stopped, and we began to gather.We watched through binoculars as a large flock feeds behind us in the field. We got together, took some memorable photos and, not frightening the birds, tired but satisfied, left the hunting ground to hunt.
