Stüssy and Nike simply cannot be stopped. Their sneaker collaborations are no longer a surprise but a seasonal expectation, what with the deluge of limited basketball shoes and studded Chuck Taylors they’ve dished in recent months.
Next up, presumably tired of designing both dyed low-top and minimalist mid-top AF1s, Stüssy has developed its own Nike Vandal, revising an early ’80s basketball shoe arguably rendered obsolete by the Air Force 1.
Perhaps Stüssy sees this Vandal collab as an opportunity to refresh a forgotten classic of Nike’s basketball repertoire.

Well, at least, the Vandal used to be forgotten. Like the Nike Terminator, another recently revived shoe, the Vandal quietly returned from the bench in the early 2000s with a handful of occasional colorways and updates.
Its last high-profile moment came from Supreme, which rebirthed the Vandal in metallic hues back in 2017.
Stüssy, meanwhile, is opting for a more textural take that again draws parallels to the standout Nike Air Force 1 sneakers it delivered in 2021.
The first leaked images of the Stüssy x Nike Vandal showcased a mid-top blue and black sneaker with a knitted hemp upper and Swoosh to match. The result doesn’t hit quite as hard as those incredibly handsome beige AF1 lows — another hemp shoe — but, then, what would?
There are two additional Stüssy x Nike Vandal colorways, which mostly utilize neutral black and white shades, aside from the silver Swoosh on the former.
These new colorways can’t quite affect the vibe of Stüssy’s beautiful beige AF1 sneakers but they’re appreciated.

The Nike collab’s reveal is just part of another strong season from Stüssy, one that could yet invite further collaborations on underrated Nike sneakers if the on-feets are to be taken as anything beyond styling cue.
Not that it needs to be said but Stüssy is very much on top of the streetwear world right now, its seasonal drops coveted and its collaborative shoes coveted.
The Nike Vandal collab likely won’t be a showstopper but it’s another feather in Stüssy’s already well-decorated hat. Nothing to complain about here.

And in what other pictures is it worth paying attention to the shoes of the heroes.
Nike Cortez in Forrest Gump (1994)
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, a moving drama based on the novel of the same name by Winston Groom tells the story of Forrest Gump, a mentally retarded man with a good heart. As a child, Forrest becomes a victim of bullies, but runs away from them to the cries of his school friend Jenny: “Run, Forrest, run!”. Jenny and running are forever in Forrest’s heart and help him move forward and get through the tough times. And already adult Jenny, with whom he is hopelessly in love, will give Forrest a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers.

James Cameron’s The Terminator can be considered a phenomenal film, so firmly established in the history of cinema. According to the story, a terminator robot from 2029 arrives in Los Angeles in 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, whose child in the future will be the key to humanity’s victory in the war against machines. A soldier from the 21st century, Kyle Reese, is sent to save Sarah.
In the memorable scene of arriving in the past, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator appears naked. Kyle Reese, too, has to procure clothes for himself, including black and white Nike Vandal sneakers. In the sequel to The Terminator, these shoes are back, along with their wearer character.
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 in The Game of Death (1978)
The last film of the legendary Bruce Lee was destined to become a cult film, also because Lee died before the end of filming – the producers finished the film with the help of understudies.
In his action movie, Lee played the lead role of martial arts veteran Billy Bo, who is forced to compete with the Korean mafia, who kidnapped his sister and brother.

And the main character of Kill Bill, the former hitman Beatrix, played by Uma Thurman, spends almost all screen time in a yellow and black suit and re-released Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, which completely repeats the clothes of the protagonist in Game of Death.
As the model’s name suggests, it was inspired by the shoes worn by athletes practicing tai chi, a martial art, a type of wushu. In September 2019Asics, of which the Onitsuka Tiger brand is a part, announced the release of an updated model of these sneakers, which made it easier to get yourself a pair.

Ridley Scott’s Alien is a sci-fi classic that won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. It’s no surprise that movies revolving around basketball are filled with variations of the Nike Air Jordan. However, the high point of these sneakers does not have to be associated with basketball players.
Director, screenwriter and actor Spike Lee is one of black America’s top film singers, and although he also has basketball films, people who are far from sports also wear Air Jordans.
“Do the right thing!” talks about a young, unambitious African American, Muki, played by Spike Lee himself. Mookie lives in Brooklyn and works at a local pizzeria to provide for herself, her son, and his mother. Everything would be fine, but the son of the owner of the pizzeria is rude and intolerant, which does not contribute to a peaceful atmosphere.
