Using challenges to change for the better – Element PR
Philip Morris TKP CEO Michael Solter said that for 2021, the desire of the company is to use the challenges to change for the better. He says that 2020 is a year that will remain in our memories for a longer period time, though difficult for some, and successful for others, filled with challenges for all. A year that we faced the exceptional challenge of COVID-19 we feared and still fear for ourselves, for our loved ones, our employees and our businesses.
Locally, we will remember 2020 for bringing our innovative product to the Macedonian market. Globally, Philip Morris will remember 2020 also for the decision made by the world-renowned agency for the protection of public health, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to classify the IQOS system in the category of modified risk products.
The past year has been a great life lesson, what I believe it will lead us forward in the also uncertain year 2021.

Michael Solter (1961 – 2008)
Refresh this page to see various historical events that occurred during Michael’s lifetime.
In 1961, in the year that Michael Solter was born, on January 20th, John F. Kennedy became the 35th President of the United States. He had previously been a U.S. Senator and a Congressman, both from the state of Massachusetts, as well as a Naval lieutenant in World War II.
In 1978, by the time he was 17 years old, on November 18th, Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple followers committed mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana – where they had moved, from San Francisco, as a group. Jones was the leader of the cult and ordered his followers to drink cyanide-laced punch, which they did. Whole families (women and children included) died – more than 900 people in all.
In 1979, Michael was 18 years old when on November 4th, Iranian militant students seized the US embassy in Teheran and held 52 American citizens and diplomats hostage for 444 days. They were released at the end of the inauguration speech of the newly elected Ronald Reagan.
In 1989, he was 28 years old when on November 9th, the Berlin Wall fell. The Wall was built by the East Germans to keep East Berliners from escaping into West Berlin, separating families and friends. When the head of the East German Communist Party announced that day that East Berliners could cross whenever they pleased, happy crowds surged across the border. People brought tools and took parts of the hated wall.
In 1990, at the age of 29 years old, Michael was alive when on April 24th, the Hubble telescope was launched into space after long delays due to the Challenger explosion. An optical flaw was found within weeks of launch but was fixed within three years. The discoveries made possible by the Hubble have contributed to scientists’ understanding of the universe.
