Who is Liam Keane and what is his background in lacrosse. What legal issues have been associated with his name. How did the collapse of a murder trial impact multiple individuals.
Liam Keane’s Lacrosse Career and Achievements
Liam Keane is a freshman lacrosse player for Robert Morris University. He plays as an attack and wears jersey number 34. In the 2021 season, Keane participated in 4 games, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist for a total of 2 points. His shooting percentage was 50%, with 1 shot on goal.

Key Attributes and Skills
- Coachable player
- Understands the importance of teamwork
- Creative with the ball
- Aggressive at both ends of the field
These qualities make Keane a valuable asset to his team, contributing to both offensive and defensive plays.
The Collapse of the Liam Keane Murder Trial
In a separate and unrelated incident, a murder trial involving a different individual named Liam Keane collapsed under controversial circumstances. This trial was related to the killing of 19-year-old Eric Leamy in August 2001.
The trial’s collapse occurred when several witnesses retracted their previous statements to the police, in which they had allegedly identified Liam Keane as the killer. This unexpected turn of events led to legal proceedings against three individuals connected to the case.
Charges Against Witnesses
Three people were charged in connection with the events that led to the trial’s collapse:
- Roy Behan (24) of St Senan’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick
- David Murphy (19) of the Lee Estate, Limerick
- Amanda McNamara (20), formerly of the Lee Estate, Limerick
These individuals appeared before Judge Tom O’Donnell at Limerick District Court and were remanded on continuing bail.
Understanding the Charges: Perjury and Contempt of Court
The charges brought against the three individuals relate to their actions during the murder trial. What exactly are these charges, and what do they mean in the context of this case?
Perjury Charges
Perjury is the act of knowingly making false statements under oath. In this case, two individuals face perjury charges:
- Roy Behan is accused of committing perjury by falsely swearing that he did not witness a row that led to Eric Leamy’s death.
- Amanda McNamara is charged with perjury for allegedly falsely swearing that she did not know her whereabouts when Leamy was killed.
These charges suggest that both individuals may have provided false testimony during the trial, potentially obstructing the course of justice.
Contempt of Court Charge
David Murphy faces a different charge: contempt of court. This charge stems from his alleged refusal to give evidence during the trial. Contempt of court occurs when an individual disobeys a court order or disrupts the court’s proceedings.
In Murphy’s case, his refusal to testify could have significantly impacted the trial’s outcome, leading to this serious charge.
The Impact of Witness Retraction on Criminal Trials
The collapse of the Liam Keane murder trial due to witness retractions highlights a significant challenge in the criminal justice system. How does witness retraction affect the outcome of trials, and what are its implications for the justice process?
Challenges in Prosecuting Cases
When key witnesses retract their statements or refuse to testify, it can severely undermine the prosecution’s case. This situation often leads to:
- Weakened evidence against the accused
- Increased difficulty in proving guilt beyond reasonable doubt
- Potential collapse of the entire case
In the Keane trial, the retraction of witness statements identifying him as the killer likely made it impossible for the prosecution to continue with the case.
Implications for Justice
Witness retractions can have far-reaching consequences for the justice system:
- Potential miscarriage of justice if guilty individuals go free
- Erosion of public trust in the legal system
- Increased scrutiny of witness reliability in future cases
These implications underscore the importance of addressing the issue of witness reliability and protection in criminal proceedings.
Legal Consequences for False Testimony and Obstruction of Justice
The charges brought against Behan, McNamara, and Murphy illustrate the serious legal consequences that can arise from providing false testimony or obstructing justice. What penalties do individuals face for these offenses, and how do they impact the broader justice system?
Penalties for Perjury
Perjury is considered a serious offense in most legal systems. Potential penalties may include:
- Imprisonment
- Fines
- Criminal record
- Loss of professional licenses or credentials
The severity of the punishment often depends on the nature of the case and the impact of the false testimony on the proceedings.
Consequences of Contempt of Court
Contempt of court charges can also carry significant penalties:
- Fines
- Imprisonment
- Community service
- Probation
The specific consequences often depend on the judge’s discretion and the severity of the contemptuous behavior.
The Role of Witness Protection in Ensuring Fair Trials
The collapse of the Keane trial due to witness retractions raises questions about the effectiveness of witness protection programs. How can these programs be improved to ensure witnesses feel safe testifying in high-stakes criminal cases?
Key Components of Effective Witness Protection
To encourage witnesses to come forward and maintain their testimony, witness protection programs should include:
- Physical protection for witnesses and their families
- Relocation services when necessary
- Financial assistance for relocation and living expenses
- Psychological support to deal with stress and trauma
- Long-term follow-up and support after the trial
Implementing these measures can help create a more secure environment for witnesses, potentially reducing instances of retraction or refusal to testify.
Balancing Witness Protection and Defendant Rights
While protecting witnesses is crucial, it’s equally important to maintain the rights of the accused. This balance can be achieved by:
- Ensuring transparency in the protection process
- Allowing defense attorneys appropriate access to protected witnesses
- Implementing strict guidelines for witness anonymity in court proceedings
By striking this balance, the justice system can better ensure fair trials while protecting those who come forward to testify.
Rebuilding Trust in the Justice System After High-Profile Trial Collapses
The collapse of a murder trial, especially one involving multiple charges of perjury and contempt of court, can significantly erode public trust in the justice system. How can legal institutions work to rebuild this trust and ensure the integrity of future proceedings?
Transparency and Communication
One key strategy for rebuilding trust is increasing transparency in legal processes:
- Providing clear explanations of trial outcomes and reasons for collapses
- Communicating steps taken to address issues that led to the trial’s failure
- Engaging with the public through community outreach and education programs
By openly addressing concerns and demonstrating a commitment to improvement, legal institutions can begin to restore public confidence.
Systemic Reforms
Implementing reforms to address underlying issues can also help rebuild trust:
- Strengthening witness protection programs
- Improving investigative processes to reduce reliance on single witnesses
- Enhancing training for law enforcement and legal professionals
- Implementing stricter penalties for perjury and witness intimidation
These reforms can demonstrate a commitment to addressing systemic weaknesses and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Three remanded over Liam Keane trial collapse
Three people charged in connection with events which led to the collapse of a recent murder trial have been remanded on continuing bail at Limerick District Court.
The trial collapsed when a number of witnesses denied making statements to gardai identifying Liam Keane as the killer of 19 year-old Eric Leamy in August, 2001.
Appearing before Judge Tom O’Donnell today were Roy Behan (24) of St Senan’s Street, St Mary’s Park, David Murphy (19), of the Lee Estate, and Amanda McNamara (20), formerly of the Lee Estate – all in Limerick.
Mr Behan is accused of committing perjury while under oath as a witness in the trial of Keane on November 3rd last by “knowingly and falsely swearing” that he did not see a row which led to the death of Leamy.
Ms McNamara is charged with committing perjury on October 30th last in the same trial by “knowingly and falsely swearing” that she did not know where she was when Leamy was killed.
Mr Murphy is accused of contempt of court by “refusing to give evidence” in the same trial on October 30th last at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
Judge O’Donnell agreed to a State application to remand all three on continuing bail to Limerick District Court on December 9th next.
Keane had denied the charge of murdering Leamy in the Lee Estate, Limerick, on August 28th 2001.
He walked free from the Central Criminal Court last week after the DPP ordered that a ‘nolle prosequi’ be entered.

Liam Miller
2.1. Club career. Celtic. (“Celtic”)
In 1997, 16-year-old Miller became interested in Scottish “Celtic”, who suggested that the Irish team was a duplicate. On May 21, 2000, Liam made his debut with glasgowcan in a match where the Greens met Dundee United. On 24 August of the same year, Miller first appeared in the European Cup match – this happened in the UEFA Cup game Celtic – Jeunesse from Luxembourg.
In the 2001/02 season, the Irishman was loaned for six months to the Danish club Aarhus, which held 18 matches. at the end of the lease, the Danes wanted to buy the rights to Miller recommends Celtic £ 300,000 for the Irish.but the “Celts” this was rejected by Liam’s return to their ranks.
On 30 September 2003, Liam scored one of two goals in the Champions League, where the Celts faced French Lyon. the match ended with the score 2: 0 in favor of glasgowa.
18 In October of that year, after hitting the Heart of Midlothian twice, Miller opened the scoring for the Greens in the Scottish Premier League.
Celtic coach Martin OHNeill did all this to urge the Celtic leadership to offer the Irishman a new contract, as the current agreement with Miller expires at the end of the 2003/04 season.
Unexpectedly, however, young Liam came English Manchester United, with whom the midfielder signed a preliminary contract in January 2004. Miller’s decision was a huge disappointment from ONEILL, who confessed in an interview that “he wanted to build the whole team around a promising young Irishman.” Miller himself said that he is very grateful to the Northern Irish specialist, because he “essentially taught him how to play football.”
The move from Ireland to Manchester has sparked an outcry among Celtic fans, who have accused the Green and White management of excessive delays in Liam’s deal.
