The 34 Most Epic Things To Do In Los Angeles With Kids
When you visit Los Angeles you are immediately overwhelmed by everything there is to do! I think you could spend a whole month here and still miss a lot. Below are our recommendations for the top things to do in Los Angeles with kids, well not just LA, also the surrounding area on the West Coast. Southern California is filled with so many amazing family friendly things to do!
Things To Do
1 – Hollywood Sign
You can’t get much more iconic then the Hollywood Sign! And hiking to the Hollywood sign is a great way to see it and to get a view of all of LA. You won’t be able to touch the sign but you can hike right up behind it.
Take note this is a long hike – probably about 3 mile – 4 mile round trip hike from the Lake Hollywood park (where there is free public parking) and a lot of it is uphill. It isn’t easy, but our 6 year old did it with just being carried on our back a couple of times.
It is also very confusing. Some people were telling us you can’t hike up there and then we would see others that said you could . . . we kind of just kept following the signs and the people and we ended up going the right way. And no, we did not go in any of the no trespassing areas!
Once at the top you get an amazing view of LA with the Hollywood sign right below you. Also on the way up you get some pretty amazing views of the sign.
We talk with the kids about how when we see the sign in movies and TV shows now we can be like, “Hey, we have been there!”
We followed the map on this post. And parked at Lake Hollywood Park and then walked up the Mt. Lee route – you do end up walking on a road as you are going up – but that is the right way to go. It is a service road and we did see service vehicles so be aware of that. We also walked through a neighborhood to get to the road. It was an interesting trail but it was all good and we just kept asking people who were walking towards us if we were going the right way.

2 – Walk of Fame
Is a visit to LA complete without doing the Hollywood Walk of Fame and seeing the Chinese Theatre?! Probably not, but in my opinion it is a little disappointing. I mean sure you can see the stars and see some handprints at the Chinese Theatre but I don’t know, I think I expected more.
This is also located in a busy part of the city so you have people selling you things up and down the street and lots of activity going on. If you like that vibe, you may love it here!
3 – Venice Beach
If you are looking for a unique experience than Venice Beach is the place for you. There is a nice sized walkway that takes you from the Santa Monica Pier to Venice Beach so we opted to park right in the middle in a large parking lot – you do have to pay for it.
Then we tried to get the kids skateboards out so that they could ride down the walkway, but it didn’t work out . . . they are still learning to skateboard and the walkway was super busy and lots of people had the motorized scooters so it didn’t feel very safe to have the kids on their boards.
We opted to put the boards back and instead choose to go on the walking path where we walked along the beach and into Venice beach. The Venice beach boardwalk is filled with shops and has a pretty constant smell of weed . . . it is legal in CA and is sold right on the boardwalk.
We then headed over to the skate park to check that out and we could have stayed for hours watching the skaters. Right behind us the roller bladders were working it with a group rollerblade dance session so that was interesting to watch too!
Next was Muscle Beach – it was much smaller than we anticipated but was still cool to see. There are also a ton of really cool contemporary art murals painted on the walls and people watching is top notch!

4 – Santa Monica Pier
We have heard a lot of really good things about the Pier but have never made it there ourselves. It was super busy the day we were there – but it is definitely on our list of places to check out next time we are in the area. With the ferris wheel and ice cream options I know our kids would love it! You can read more about the Santa Monica Pier here.

5 – Malibu
After the craziness of Venice Beach we were looking for something a little quieter so we headed out to Malibu to see what that was all about and to find a beach to let the kids run on.
We ended up at El Pescador State Beach in Malibu which was a beautiful state park with a beach and was a really nice introduction into what the Pacific Ocean and California coast would look like as we made our way north.

6 – Natural History Museum Of Los Angeles
Carson (our oldest) is really into Dinosaurs so we made a stop at the Natural History Museum. With our reciprocal museum membership we were able to get in for free. And we spent a couple hours exploring the dinosaur bones and a few others things at the museum.
It is a good size museum and well worth a stop if your crew is into natural history and/or Dinosaurs!

7 – Kidspace Museum
This kid friendly museum is out in Pasadena so may be a bit of a drive but it was an awesome museum – we easily could have spent all day here. We again used our reciprocal museum membership and were able to get 4 tickets covered.
The children’s museum is almost all outside with great hands on activities for the kids to do. It is a perfect fit for kids age 11/12 and under. Well worth a visit if the kids need a day to run around and play.
8 – California Science Center
We had also heard great things about the California Adventure Center and definitely would have gone but we ran out of time! Note that the museum usually closes at 5pm . . . At the museum you can check out the Space Shuttle Endeavor Exhibition which looks amazing.
We had asked our followers for recommendations on things to do in LA with kids but we ran out of time and couldn’t do all of them. But we wanted to share the list with you in case you have more time to explore the area:
9 – LA Train Station
Great for anyone that loves trains and when you are done you can walk across the street to grab lunch at Philippe the Original Beef Dips!
10 – The Farmers Market at the Grove
We heard this one over and over again from people and sounded like a really unique and fun place to visit.
11 – Griffith Observatory and Park
We could see the observatory when we did the Hollywood Sign hike and I was disappointed we didn’t make it there. Would have loved to go at night and to see the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.
There is also the beautiful Griffith Park that you can explore and you won’t want to miss Travel Town! Griffith Park is a great place for kid activities, Los Angeles has a lot to offer on that front! You can visit the LA Zoo, take Pony Rides or Train Rides and so much more!

12 – El Capitan Theater
A great place to see a movie! Plus it is gorgeous inside.
13 – The Los Angeles Public Library
Beautiful inside and lots of great events and activities going on.
14 – La Brea Tar Pits
Which I was disappointed we didn’t do but the location didn’t really work with the other things we did.

15 – WB Studios Tour
I looked into this one and it was pricey and there was an age restriction – everyone is suppose to be 8 years old or older. If the shows would have been ones the kids watched we probably would have done it but they weren’t.

17 – Universal Studios Hollywood
We had just done Universal in Orlando earlier in the year so we opted to skip Universal Studios Hollywood theme park this time around and did Walt Disneyland instead. My parents and sister’s family went and they enjoyed it. But we were surprised to hear it closed super early at 6pm . . . If you go check out this great Universal Food Guide.

18 – Puppet Show
Looking for a unique experience? Check out a Puppet Show in downtown LA like the Bob Baker Marionette Theater.
19 – San Pedro
Check out this historic downtown waterfront where you can shop, dine, visit an art gallery or just walk around. You can also stop to see the USS Iowa in this area.
20 – Skirball Cultural Center
This Cultural Center has so much to offer! They offer events including weekly story times, guided tours, and a mini Noah’s Ark! Food, drinks and snacks are also available while you take in all the Center has to offer. This would be a great place for kids birthday parties! If you are interested in checking out museums, you may also want to go to the Autry Museum or the Getty Center!
21 – Grand Central Market
If you are a foodie, you must check out Grand Central Market! So many different food vendors and options to choose from.
22 – Take Flight

Check out the mural, the time travel mart for interesting finds, shop at the cookbook or rent a pedal boat for the lake. Lots of fun things to do here!
28 – Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Garden.
Yes it is a library but it is beautiful! Plus they have a botanical garden.

Fun Lacrosse Drills – Beginner Lacrosse
Here are some fun lacrosse drills to break up a long practice or to use as a reward for a good day of training. Young kids will love these fun drills… and will even get some practical training out of them. However, for more serious drills, you should visit our main Beginner Lacrosse Drills section.
Beginner Lacrosse – Best Lacrosse Books
- Lacrosse Egg Toss – Partner kids up to catch and throw a lacrosse ball. Have them take a step back at each turn so they get further and further apart. Last team to avoid dropping the “egg” wins.
- Lacrosse Golf – Place a garbage can or bucket on the far side of the field. Have the children try to score a hole in one (without any bounces). A fun lacrosse drill but it also helps to teach accuracy for long clears.
- Lacrosse Musical Chairs – Have the kids lie in a circle. Then place lacrosse balls in the middle of the circle… but one or two fewer balls than the number of kids. On the blow of the whistle, the kids will jump up to try and win a groundball. Each time, another “musical chair” (ball) is removed until two kids are facing off for the remaining lacrosse ball. This is another fun lacrosse drill but it also teaches kids how to win groundballs and to protect the ball.
- Lacrosse Relay Races – Divide your kids into teams. Then split each team in half and have each half line up at two different points on the field (i.e. goal line extended and the midfield line). The teams will compete by racing against each other while cradling a lacrosse ball. They must pass off the lacrosse ball to each member of the team (or drop the ball on the ground in front of their teammates if they are very young and have a hard time catching). A variation is to have the kids run around a distant cone while cradling a lacrosse ball and run back to the starting point before passing the ball onto the next relay member.
- Monkey in the Middle – This is a fun drill to teach kids how to snag opponent passes (great for defenders). Have the defender stand in the middle of two players and try to intercept their passes to one another.
- Lacrosse Sharks & Minnows – Line everyone up at the midfield line and have them race to the end line while the coaches try to knock the ball out of their stick. Keep going back and forth between the midfield line and end line until there is only one winner. Teaches kids (in a fun way) to protect the ball with good cradling skills. See the video below.
- Score on the Chicken (or Clown, Cowboy, Frankenstein, Princess, etc.) – Have a coach/parent dress up in a silly outfit and have the kids try to score on him. Always a crowd favorite. ?
- Sky Ball – Fire a lacrosse ball high into the sky and a kid has to catch it.
- Steal the Bacon – Divide the kids into two teams and line up the players on two sides of the field. Assign each person on the two lines with a number (i.e. 1,2,3,4, etc.). Stand in the middle of the two lines and drop a ground ball. Then shout out a number. The two kids assigned with that number will rush out to win the ground ball and try to return the ball to their team’s side of the field. Award points to each team when one of their players brings the ball back to their team.
- Thunder Dome – Everyone is in a circle which they can not “escape” from and everyone has a ball that they can not drop. Of course, the coaches try to knock the ball from their sticks. Last man with a ball wins.

Made me extremely sick
I am regular size adult and used for only slight constipation, i took the max dose which is for kids of 6 tablets figuring i’d be fine as its a kids dose. I got severe painful waves of cramps, severe diarreah, a little dizziness, severe nausea . Terrible symptoms lasted about 2 hours or so and then got extreme chills for another 2 hours. I feel like i was hit by a semi truck and have been in bed for several hours now.

Plane to LAX Dumps Jet Fuel on Area Elementary School Kids; 67 Treated

A Delta Air Lines aircraft returning to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shortly after takeoff on Tuesday dumped jet fuel over multiple elementary schools in the county, leaving dozens of children and adults exposed to the liquid.
Delta Flight 89 from LAX to Shanghai had been returning to LAX shortly after takeoff, and released an unknown amount of fuel before its return, the airline confirmed.
According to plane tracker FlightRadar24, the Boeing 777-200 jet passed over the area at 11:53 a.m.
Sixty-seven children and adults were treated at the scene of the exposure, CBS Los Angeles reported Tuesday night.
Earlier on Tuesday the LA County Fire Department tweeted that 44 people were treated at the scene with minor injuries related to the accident and were released.

Twenty children and 11 adults were treated at Park Avenue Elementary School in the city of Cudahy alone, while 13 other patients from elementary schools in the nearby city of South Gate and district of Florence Graham were also evaluated, the fire department said.
The departments Health HazMat units responded and confirmed the substance was jet fuel.
Two classes were being held outside in Park Avenue Elementary’s playground when the liquid “rained down” just before noon, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“It kind of smelled like gas,” Eli Vasquez, a student at Tweedy Elementary in South Gate, told CBS.
Some victims had complained of skin and eye irritation, but were treated with soap and water and released, CBS reported.

It’s not clear why the liquid was discharged. Jettisoning fuel to reduce weight is a common practice when a jet is forced to return to the airport after takeoff, often because of a technical issue or passenger medical emergency.
Typically, jet fuel dissipates when it’s jettisoned from a plane. It was not immediately clear why the fuel ended up reaching the ground in this instance.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has procedures for dumping fuel for planes heading into or out of major airports, including climbing to higher altitudes when possible and avoiding populated areas.
The FAA told Business Insider that it is investigating the incident.

A Twitter user posted video of a plane and said it was the Shanghai flight dumping fuel on approach, but the footage could not be independently verified by Business Insider.
Delta said the flight had experienced an “engine issue” that required its immediate return to LAX, and is in touch with authorities to discuss the reported injuries.

“Shortly after takeoff, Flight 89 from LAX to Shanghai experienced an engine issue requiring the aircraft to return quickly to LAX. The aircraft landed safely after a release of fuel, which was required as part of normal procedure to reach a safe landing weight.
“We are in touch with Los Angeles World Airports and the LA County Fire Department and share concerns regarding reported minor injuries to adults and children at a school in the area.”
How College Lacrosse Goalies Can Make Money
As of today, July 1, a new era in college athletics is upon us.
This is easily the most fundamental change in the college sports landscape since Title IX, the gender equality law enacted almost 50 years ago.
For the first time ever, athletes at all levels of college sports will be permitted to get paid for their name, image, and likeness (NIL).
They can earn money based on their celebrity or fame without facing the harsh wrath of the NCAA.
The rule is valid in more than a dozen states currently. Many others states have legislation in process and I imagine all 50 will come on board in due time.
So how can lacrosse goalies profit off of the new name, image, and likeness rules?
Build Your Brand
If you’re a youth goalie, now is the perfect time to build your brand. And if you’re a high school or college goalie, it’s never too late to start.
The easiest way to build a brand these days is via social media.
Now if you’re a parent of a youth goalie reading this and you immediately think – wait Damon – I don’t want my kid’s business all on the internet. That’s fine, I totally respect that. This isn’t for everyone.
But at the same time don’t be the parent complaining when your kid hits college with the ability to make money on their brand only to realize they have no brand.
There’s this kid I follow on Instagram Rocco Vasquez aka the hbk_heartbreakkidd. Not even sure how old he is, 10 or 11 if I had to guess.
He has 10k followers. He has built a brand.
I don’t know if Rocco got money for these posts (he probably does or maybe free gear) but I do know under previous NCAA rules if an athlete got paid for something like this or even just accepted a gift, they would be in major trouble. Not anymore.
There’s a set of twins, Haley and Hanna Cavinder, that play basketball for the Fresno State Bulldogs.
They have over 3.3 million followers on TikTok. That’s a brand.

And until now that brand that they’ve built hasn’t earned a dime (unless it was illegal). As of today, many are calling the Cavinders the hottest NIL property right out of the gate, very well positioned to take financial advantage of this amazing brand they’ve built.
Jordan Bohannon plays basketball for the University of Iowa. He has 29k followers on Twitter. That’s a brand.

College athletes who have spent time building up an extremely valuable brand are now in an amazing situation where they can profit off of that brand.
Benefits of a Strong Brand
The only thing that is still illegal is “pay-for-play”, i.e. come to this school and we’ll give you $50k.
Everything else is pretty much fair game under the new NIL rules. Athletes can make money via things like:
- Autograph signings
- Selling merch with their name, image, likeness
- Teaching camps/clinics
- Sponsored Posts
- Endorsements
- General sponsorships
But you what all of those bullet points rely on? A strong brand.
When the PLL first started they had limited selection of replica jerseys available in their merch store.
The only goalie jersey available for sale was Scotty Rodgers, the backup on the Atlas. Why? He’s got a very strong brand with 44k followers on Instagram.
There are so many ways that you can monetize a strong brand. The bulleted list above is a great start but when you carry a strong brand, the possibilities are almost endless.
Here’s another thing a strong personal brand can help you with: getting recruited in the 1st place.
A strong brand can absolutely help you secure a spot into that elite D1 program you’ve always dreamed of attending.
At the end of the day you still need the talent and the grades but you don’t think there will be college coaches chomping at the bit to get a look at our 10 year old friend the HeartBreakKid once he hits high school?
That’s the power of a strong brand.
People and companies want to be associated with strong brands. And now there is nothing stopping a local car dealership from giving the local star player a free car in exchange for some mentions on their Instagram.
Provided the activity is in accordance with state laws and school policy, athletes will be able to work with agents and make deals with boosters.
This is a wild time. I love it.
How Do You Build a Brand
So let’s say you’re a 14 year old goalie from Long Island, NY who is now asking the question – how do I build my brand?
Simple – document your journey.
You don’t have to be the best goalie in the world to build a great brand. Yes, it helps if you have talent but building a brand is also about entertaining and teaching.
Post videos of yourself doing drills in the backyard. Post videos of yourself making saves.
Post a video teaching another goalie something you learned.
Post videos of yourself in a best of 10 shootout with your friend. Post pictures of what you like to do off the field.
Post pics of important leadership lessons you learned. Post pics of your favorite lacrosse goalies and write about something they taught you.
Post videos of yourself sharing your thoughts, yours fears, your gratitude, your celebrations.
All those post ideas I just wrote out in 30 seconds. If I gave it an hour of thought or did a simple Google search, I’m sure I could come up with another 100 different post ideas.
Pick a single social media platform – Instagram or TikTok with their visual focus tend to be best for sports – and document your journey.
Study accounts like our friend Rocco and see what they’ve done. Replicate that for goalies.
The second part of building a brand is the interaction. When people comment or ask you questions – respond back. Comment on other goalies posts too.
That helps build the brand.
Eventually you may want a website to continue the brand so definitely pickup your name’s domain name if its available.
You will hear crickets at first. That’s fine. Keep going. Stay committed to reaching at least 100 posts.
Even if you don’t have a strong brand by the time you reach college, that’s fine too. Many collegiate athletes have seen their “brand” absolutely explode with a solid season of play.
Joe Burrow was relatively unknown going into his senior year. After an SEC championship and a Heisman trophy his brand exploded and the value of his name, likeness, and image could command top dollar. One study estimated $700,000. For a college kid.
In the lacrosse goalie world, I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know who Owen McElroy or Colin Kirst were at the beginning of the 2021 season. After an amazing season in between the pipes, they’re now on everyone’s radar.
Even if lacrosse doesn’t generate the amount of revenue of other big sports, simply making a few extra thousand dollars here and there off your NIL can be a real game changer for a starving college student.
The School’s Brand
The other factor at play here when we’re talking about building a brand is the University’s brand.
In addition to a personal brand, the school’s own brand can help individuals find lucrative sponsorship deals.
When you think about the top college football programs, it doesn’t really matter who the actual QB is, businesses will be trying to sponsor them.
They want to associate themselves to that program and this new NIL rules is a great way to do that by sponsoring the athlete.
Alabama QB Bryce Young backed up Mac Jones and a grand total of 0 starts in his collegiate career and yet he has 7 figure sponsorship deals.
That speaks to the power of the Alabama football brand.
Conclusion
Today is a long time coming. Probably the most transformative day in the 115 year history of the NCAA.
College athletes for years have made their respective universities millions of dollars and have received nothing. Apart from the illegal $100 handshakes here and there from the boosters.
Now the rules have changed. Athletes who have created a strong brand are well positioned to start making some serious cash.
Even in a sport like lacrosse that doesn’t generate the millions, big time athletes can at least start making some money on all the hard work they’ve put in to build their skill into a brand.
Kinda makes you wonder if college athletes will start getting sidetracked running the business and lose focus on the sport itself. But that’s a topic for another post.
