Master in Social Work – Three Year Extended Option

ONLINE TUTORING: In this real time meeting, you share your work in one panel while chatting with the coach in a side panel. This type of support is designed for targeted feedback on work in the earlier stages of the writing process. Not recommended for formatting questions as all formatting is lost when the document is pasted into our interactive whiteboard.
E-TUTORING: For this asynchronous session, you simply attach your paper in the appointment dialogue box. A writing coach will review your work and provide feedback to guide your revisions. This essay review service is recommended for complete (or nearly complete) drafts. Kean Learning Commons
The Learning Commons offers student support services designed to meet the academic and information needs of the student community. Its mission is to provide an integrated information delivery and learning support system that directly assists students with academic learning, completion of research-creative-and-scholarly activities, and their continuous professional development through programs, placements, and events. Through its programming, computer clusters on all three floors (printing is also available), and various student support and learning services, the Library serves as the intellectual and cultural center of the university and is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning.
Located in the heart of the Kean campus, the Learning Commons and its web site and online catalog house the Library’s print and online collections, with holdings of more than 177,961 volumes of books and access to more than 235,000 e-books. In addition, the Library subscribes to more than 56,748 electronic and print periodicals and provides access to more than 196,595 U.S. government online documents. A current validated Kean University photo ID is required to borrow materials from the library. A Kean Google-email account is required to access resources from off-campus. The Library can also request additional books and articles through the Interlibrary Loan system. Students may access the print book collections of other New Jersey academic libraries using the VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program.

Master’s in Social Work Field Education
The field education office within the department of social work is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in class to the working field. Students are placed in experiential learning settings, with qualified supervisors, to learn how to engage with clients. In field education, students will develop an ability to critically assess for needs, and provide therapeutic interventions according to evidence-based recommendations. Both faculty and community supervisors help students by building on in-class instruction, and guiding students to become more self-aware of their own clinical capabilities.
Field education is a progressive experience. In the foundation year internship, students will experience working with clients for 16 hours a week, while practicing skills such as case management, building trust, engagement and assessment. In the specialization year, students will build on their first year skills learning more direct clinical skills. The specialization year internship will require that students spend 20 hours a week in their internship placements. In this year, students will practice research-based therapeutic interventions with clients, or groups, under the supervision of clinical social workers. During this final year, you will become better acquainted with theories of social work that inform your future psychotherapeutic practices.

Social Work Degree Programs in New Jersey
Mental illness is a major concern throughout the United States, and New Jersey is no exception, which is why social work degrees in New Jersey are becoming increasingly more important.
In 2011, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA) reported that almost 15 percent of New Jersey residents suffered from mental illness, and over three percent of those were suffering from serious mental illness. Although this is lower than the national average, any mental illness is cause for concern in light of recent tragedies, such as the Sandy Hook and Isla Vista incidents.
In addition to mental illness, social workers also deal with drug and alcohol dependencyand family situations, including child welfare. A report released in October 2013 showed that over eight percent of children returned to their homes from foster care were abused again within a year, an increase from six percent the year before. In addition, social workers within the agency claim they are overloaded and that only 56 percent were able to hold required family team meetings within 30 days of removing a child from the home. This indicates a need for additional staff with social work degrees in New Jersey who are qualified to identify continuing issues in a home before returning a child to their parents.

Centenary College
Centenary College was founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church as a coeducational preparatory school. In 1910, the school became a girl’s preparatory school and, in 1940, became a junior college for women. The school remained a junior college until 1976, when it became a four-year college for women. In 1988, men were admitted to the school, and, in 1995, the school began awarding master’s degrees. It was the first college within New Jersey to require community service as a condition of graduation.
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
The Social Work program at Centenary is a small program, so students are able to work closely with faculty members who are experienced social workers themselves. Students are provided the opportunity to interact with professionals in the field and provided internships that allow them to get hands-on experience. Seniors spend 420 hours in a structured field placement setting, working closely with a Field Instructor at the agency where they are assigned. Students are prepared for generalist social work positions with a focus on the dignity and worth of each person. The program stresses the importance of human relationships, human rights, social justice, integrity and scientific inquiry. Students must declare their major as a Social Work Candidate and may apply to the program during the spring semester of their sophomore year.

Georgian Court University
Georgian Court University is located in Lakewood, an area that was known as the winter playground of New York City and Philadelphia elite in the late 1800s. The university is located on the George Jay Gould estate, which was established in 1896 by the son of railroad magnate, Jay Gould. After George Gould’s death in 1908, the estate was sold to the Sisters of Mercy, who used the lands and buildings as a women’s college until it became coeducational in 2013. It is a comprehensive liberal arts university, located only 60 miles from New York and Philadelphia and ten miles from the New Jersey Shore. The estate, including the indoor swimming pool, court tennis court and bowling alley that existed when it was the summer home of the Gould’s, has been restored and maintained, along with the Japanese, Formal and Italian gardens. Today, the school has an enrollment of over 2,300 students, 87 percent of which are female.
School of Arts and Sciences
The School of Arts and Sciences at Georgian Court provides students with a liberal arts and sciences education designed for their success in their professions. Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.)

Kean University
Kean University was founded in 1855 as the Newark Normal School, dedicated to educating teachers. The university is situated on an estate that was created in 1760 by Revolutionary War patriot, William Livingston as his country residence. In 1798, the estate was sold to George Belasise, Lord Bolingbroke, who established boxwood gardens that still stand today. In 1811, the estate was purchased by Peter Kean, for his mother as women were not eligible to own property during that era. Mr. Kean’s mother was the niece of William Livingston. The estate remained in the Kean family until it was purchased by the university in 1958. In 1937, the school became the New Jersey Teachers College and Newark State College in 1959, a year after moving to the Kean estate. Monmouth University
Monmouth University was founded in 1933 to provide higher education to high school students in the area who could not afford to go away to college during the Depression. It was a two-year college, only holding classes in the evening as Monmouth Junior College. In 1956, the school was accredited to offer four-year programs and the school became Monmouth College. The same year, the college acquired what is now known as Woodrow Wilson Hall, a mansion that was the private residence of Hubert Templeton Parson, president of the F.W. Woolworth Company. In 1960, the college obtained the Guggenheim Cottage, which was the summer home of Murry and Leonie Guggenheim, and the cottage now houses the university library. Ramapo College
Ramapo College stands on ground that was home to Native Americans when settlers came to the area. In 1700, Blandina Bayard, a widow and the first Euro-American settler in the area, established a trading post near the Ramapo river, which was soon surrounded by pioneer farms owned by Dutch and French settlers. One of them, Theodore Havemeyer, bought a home on the north side of Ramapo Valley Road and developed a model farm and estate. One of his daughters, Lillie, married the overseer of the estate, John Mayer, and the Havemeyer’s built a red brick Queen Anne style mansion for the newlyweds. In 1900, Lillie died of an accidental gunshot wound, and the other children of the now deceased Havemeyer sold the estate to Stephen Birch, a former tutor of the children. When he died in 1940, the property was inherited by Stephen Jr., who died in a fall in 1970. The founders of Ramapo College were seeking a location for their campus and they purchased the buildings on the property and 300 acres of land. Today, Ramapo is a liberal arts college providing a strong foundation in academics.

The School of Social Science and Human Services enrolls over 1,600 students and is one of the largest schools on campus. Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
In November 1968, the New Jersey legislature earmarked $15 million to build a state college in southern New Jersey, and in 1969, a 1,600-acre tract of land in Galloway Township, Atlantic County, was chosen for the site of the new college. Originally, the school was to be called South Jersey State College, but some of the Trustees were afraid the name would be confused with Rutgers’ College of South Jersey. Instead, they chose to name the school in honor of New Jersey’s signer of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Stockton. When it became clear that the buildings would not be ready for classes to begin in 1971, the Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City was chosen for temporary classroom space. Classes began on the official campus in 1972. Today, there are 8,458 students enrolled at Stockton, and 96 percent of the faculty hold the highest degrees in their field.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Stockton is the largest school at the college, comprising over 26 percent of undergraduate majors. Seton Hall University was founded in 1856 as Seton Hall College by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley who wanted to create a home for the “mind, the heart and the spirit.” Originally, the school was known as the Catholic University of New Jersey, located in Madison, New Jersey. Social Work – to teach social work direct clinical practice
and other areas of the curriculum as needed. Successful candidates
are expected to teach graduate courses; develop high quality

particular, an understanding of direct clinical practice that
utilizes evidence-based theories and interventions and the ability

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE
accredited program is required. Preferred qualifications include: a
Doctorate degree in Social Work or a related field; Social Work
licensure; Clinical Social Work licensure; at least two years of
post-master’s clinical social work practice experience; and
experience teaching social work micro practice courses, along with
experience teaching online. ABD candidates will also be considered
with completion date by September 1, 2021.
This is a ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignment at the rank
of Assistant Professor, effective for the Fall 2021 semester.
Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day,
evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the

MSW 100% Online Program | Rutgers School of Social Work
The 100% online MSW program in clinical social work offers close interactions between students and faculty and is designed for self-directed students who seek the flexibility and convenience of online learning.
Students in this program complete their MSW in three years and classes are held in an asynchronous format, which means there is not a fixed meeting time. Just like in a traditional, in-person classroom, courses have regularly scheduled assignments and due dates. For the online program, students and faculty interact via threaded discussions and other web-based technologies. Field placement at a social service agency begins in the third semester of the first year and continues until program completion. The advanced standing option is available to students who have a BSW or BASW from a CSWE-accredited school of social work, and allows students to complete the MSW program in just four semesters.
Once admitted to the MSW, 100% online students may also apply to the Violence Against Women and Children Certificate (VAWC) program or LISTA (Latina/o Initiatives for Service, Training, and Assessment) Certificate. Both certifcate programs offere specialized courses that complement field placements for students with this area of interest.
Field education is an essential pedagogical component of your MSW education. In the 100% online program, the field internship begins in the third semester. Students complete two field placements – a generalist level placement for three semesters (11.25 hours/week) and an advanced clinical placement for four semesters (13.5 hours/week). Advanced standing students begin placement in their first semester and complete placement over four semesters (16 hours/week). Students will work with the 100% online field faculty to identify an appropriate field placement setting. Contact project of Perm State National Research University and the School of Social Work of the University of Iowa (USA) received support from the Eurasia Foundation
In the fall of 2015, the joint international project of the Department of Social Work and Conflictology of the Law Faculty of Perm State National Research University and the School of Social Work of the University of Iowa “Practice of Students in the Social Work: a Competence Approach” was supported by the Eurasia Foundation (USA, Department of State) within the framework of the “Program partnership of universities ”.The project manager from the Russian side was Associate Professor Svetlana Gasumova , from the American side – Associate Professor Caroline Hartley .
Thanks to the project, the Department of Social Work and Conflictology was able to restore ties with the School of Social Work of the University of Iowa, cooperation with which successfully developed in the 90s. On both sides, the teaching staff has changed significantly during this time. The idea of interaction and joint research has again received universal support and aroused genuine interest on both sides.Dean of the School of Social Work, Iowa State University Sarah Sanders is also actively involved in the development of cooperation, as is the head of the Department of Social Work and Conflict Resolution Zinaida Zamaraeva .
Note that in 1991 at the Faculty of Law, one of the first in Russia, the specialty “Social Work” was opened. Since there was no professional education in social work in Russia until 1991, Perm University had to make significant efforts to establish this area of training.An important role then was played by Professor Tom Walls and other professors from the University of Iowa, who visited Perm State National Research University in the early 1990s at the invitation of Stanislav Reutov, the head of the Department of Social Work at that time, . American specialists have provided invaluable advice in drawing up work programs and organizing the educational process, including the practice of students.
The idea of the contact project is related to the fact that at present PSNIU is faced with the need to revise the strategy of organizing the practice of students of the “Social Work” profile, since from January 1, 2015there have been significant changes in the legislation of the Russian Federation. In fact, the privatization of the sector of social services for the population was carried out. In the new, market conditions, new methodological approaches have become necessary to establish effective relationships with numerous, recently emerged commercial and public organizations, which now provide social assistance to Russian citizens instead of the previously functioning state social services.
The leaders of these new subjects of the social services market often only know firsthand that students can practice in their organizations, and are often not at all interested in its high-quality organization in accordance with state educational standards.However, the number of public institutions of social services for the population, where students of Perm State National Research University traditionally had their internships, is becoming less and less, and the Department of Social Work and Conflictology is forced to look for ways to interact with organizations of a new type, to form their motivation to cooperate and accept students for practice. Within the framework of the project, PSNIU’s goal is to get acquainted with the experience of interaction with practice bases in the United States, where the vast majority of such organizations are just non-governmental, and to develop, together with American colleagues, a new methodological program for the practice of students of the “Social Work” field of study.
Indeed, the Department of Social Work and Conflictology is faced with requests from practice bases (especially from private organizations) to provide them with a kind of detailed program of practice, which would describe in detail, “in simple language” what exactly students should do to develop their professional competencies under the guidance qualified specialists, how to evaluate their work, etc. However, it must be admitted that such a methodological document is absent due to the lack of clear requirements of Russian educational standards and, probably, it needs to be developed on the basis of international experience.
Since the United States has a long history of organizing student internships within the educational process, and it is strictly regulated by the educational standards and requirements of the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE), the University of Iowa School of Social Work, which has a well-developed infrastructure in the field of practical education, is ready share your experience and methodological developments with the Perm University. Both schools of social work are given the opportunity to share their achievements in training social work specialists with a special emphasis on practical training, which will contribute to improving the quality of education, and, accordingly, the formation of social well-being in society.
Both universities plan to further focus on cultural competence in social work practice and expand understanding of the commonality of social problems in Russia and the United States, as well as familiarize themselves with the unique practice of social work in both countries. Teachers of the Department of Social Work will use the materials of the project when organizing practical, laboratory classes and students’ practice. The jointly developed internship program will be transferred to the UMO of Russian universities for education in the field of social work at the RSSU (Moscow), which has expressed interest and readiness to support this international project.
In December 2015, within the framework of the Contact Project, a delegation from PSNIU, consisting of associate professors Svetlana Gasumova and Elena Gritsenko , visited the University of Iowa. The American side organized a very warm welcome and a relationship of trust was established. As a result of intensive negotiations, a joint application for a cooperation project of the University Partnership Program was developed for submission in January 2016 to the Eurasia Foundation.
From 5 to December 9, 2015, within the framework of the visit of the Russian side of the partnership, an international colloquium was held at the University of Iowa, dedicated to the competence-oriented practice of students of the “Social Work” field of study in the context of the national systems and standards of social work of the United States and Russia … Study visits were also organized to a number of US social organizations and institutions: Iowa City Crisis Center, Iowa State University Hospital and Clinics, and Women’s Resource Center.
In addition, an important result of the contact phase of the project was the exchange of educational and methodological documentation on organizing the practice of students of the “Social Work” profile between universities. Its comparative analysis is of undoubted interest. Currently, the translation of this documentation is being carried out, and after its completion, the universities plan to publish a collection of all translated materials in the PSNIU publishing house and distribute it to other educational institutions throughout the country through the UMO of Russian universities for education in the field of social work.
Within the framework of several skype-conferences, the faculty of the Department of Social Work and Conflictology of Perm State National Research University and the School of Social Work of the University of Iowa successfully met and discussed the prospects for cooperation.
Finally, thanks to the support of the Contact Project by the Eurasia Foundation, a Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between the University of Perm and Iowa State University. We hope this will contribute to the development of academic cooperation between Russia and the United States.

The Department has established a Center for Mediation and Social and Legal Education (in the structure of RINO PSNIU), which is engaged in training and advanced training of employees of various departments of the Perm Territory. The teachers of the department carry out educational and scientific activities in cooperation with the laboratory for the study of conflicts of the Faculty of Law (head.laboratories V.A. Ledentsova).
The staff of the department is working on the scientific topic “Comprehensive study of the problem of social security and human protection in a new social reality based on the application of the resource-potential approach.” Within the framework of this scientific topic, a rich scientific and scientific-applied material was obtained on issues of social security and human protection in various fields of activity. Various methods have been investigated that have a significant impact on the solution of this problem.These are legal support, social design, management, juvenile justice, mediation, conflict management, human rights protection, information technologies in the social sphere, innovations in social work, technologies for working with various categories of citizens.
Based on the results of scientific work, a collective monograph “Social security and human protection in modern Russian society” (2020) was published. and monographs of teachers of the department Z.P. Zamaraeva, S.E. Gasumova, V.A. Bronnikova, Yu.A. Mavlikaeva and others, textbooks, articles in leading scientific journals.
