Ohio State isn’t a player nationally in lacrosse and they are paying their coach pretty good money. I wonder how much Desko makes he should probably be in the neighborhood of 750k if Ohio State is paying 335k.
He may have his detractors and may tick off portions of the fanbase but I think Desko has done a good job and should command top 3 money in the LAX coaching world.

Total compensation Desko should be double the Ohio State guy. With apparel, donations, base salary he should be at the top and make more than Gait who hasn’t won 1 NC yet and not the 5 Desko has.

there are about 60 div lax coaches. a decent demand i would expect. i wonder what the mean salary is on this board for jobs that have thousands of people who can/do it every day. i dont have a problem with a coach making 2-500K, its usually a short term position, tough hours. if the fball/bball coaches maxed out at 1 Million how would that help the industry as a whole?

According to the Cavalier Daily, Dom Starsia made $154,500 last year! Perhaps with other compensation and the camps he makes a bit more. Really interesting to see what Ohio State is paying. Maybe they had to pay a lot to try to keep Breschi and they did not make a lot of changes to the compensation for Meyer. Other than the win against Denver, it seems to me that Ohio State has faltered a bit? I honestly do not pay much attention though. Were they in the playoffs last season or was it the year before?

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse University lacrosse coach John Desko said he hopes the pay cut he and his peers are taking helps ease the pinch others are feeling because of the coronavirus economic fallout.
Desko is part of the senior leadership group at the school that will take a 10% reduction in pay starting on July 1.
The cuts will extend to vice chancellors, senior vice presidents, deans, athletic director John Wildhack, football coach Dino Babers, basketball coach Jim Boeheim, women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman and women’s lacrosse coach Gary Gait.
In a Zoom interview Thursday, Desko made his first public comments about the pay cut.
“When I spoke with (athletic director) John Wildhack about that, he talked about how we didn’t want to let people go. So they’re looking for ways with all the lack of revenue that’s come in, that would have come in this year from the conference and NCAA, I was happy to do that,” Desko said. “I just feel for people that have lost their jobs right now. It was a pretty easy decision to do that. I hope people at the university will keep their jobs. I know the chancellor (Kent Syverud) is working extremely hard on that. That’s a priority for him.
“Who knows going forward what our budgets are going to look like, and not just in Syracuse but everywhere. So it still remains to be seen. It’s obviously very important to get football playing out there at some point, with the revenue they generate. It’s certainly why we’re in the conference that we’re in. So, there’s a lot of unknowns. Everybody’s going to have to tighten the belt.”
The uncertainty could extend all the way to fall ball, which otherwise looms as the starting line for tremendous optimism. Syracuse was 5-0 and ranked No. 1 in the country when play was stopped, seemingly steaming toward its first Final Four since 2013.
“Every week we were getting better. Our best lacrosse was in front of us, that’s for sure,” Desko said. “It felt like an opportunity was taken away from us. It’s disappointing. It’s still in the back of the mind a little bit. But every day it gets a little easier.”
The Orange reloaded after several seniors took advantage of an NCAA waiver allowing spring sport athletes another season of eligibility. Desko said Thursday he expects SU to be a national contender again in 2021.
“I have us way up there,” Desko said. “I think the big thing is can we start where we left off and build on that momentum?”
Normally that work would start with strong fall practices, but whether the coronavirus situation will have abated enough to allow for that competition to play out in full won’t be known for awhile.
“I feel like Gov. Cuomo here. I hate to be political. I think he’s done a tremendous job keeping us updated,” Desko said. “But I don’t know. Right now the chancellor’s plan is to bring everybody back on the first day of classes. I would think if the students come back for the first day of classes we’ll start practice as normal, depending on what the new normal is.”
