Soccer Academy – Soccer Program
Soccer Program Structure
IMG Academy’s soccer program is structured across 10+ months of training and competing. IMG’s long term development model spans throughout a fall and spring season. IMG soccer student-athletes are introduced to the highest level of club league competition and tournament play. IMG’s soccer program is built around our IMG Academy Soccer Performance Plan, which optimizes the development process by combining expert coaching with an annual competition schedule that’s centered on individualized growth technically, tactically, and personally within a world-class setting.
IMG Academy’s soccer program has defined age-specific workloads and training programs to ensure that student-athletes have a clear pathway to progress through the program and maximize their potential. Training includes team field sessions with an emphasis on decision making and tactical game management, individual development plan sessions inclusive of video analysis and team building / leadership, and games or scrimmages.
Throughout the program, IMG soccer coaches leverage their professional and collegiate experience and ensure that each student-athlete has the necessary tools to achieve their goals. IMG soccer coaches focus on developing the “competitor” through holistic training that includes positive decision making, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. Each student-athlete within the program is competitive and possesses key skills such as game insight and the ability to read plays, as well as position-specific qualities.
The program’s global environment prepares student-athletes for the cultural experience of competing at the next level, whether that be in college or professionally. Student-athletes recognize the importance of a team atmosphere and develop lasting relationships with their teammates, coaches, teachers, and other support staff.
Student-athletes prioritize both academics and athletics as their schedule mirrors that of a collegiate program. Soccer training includes position-specific instruction as well as team strategies and foundational tactics, speed of play, and proactive thinking on the field. Skills such as strength and conditioning, communication skills, and leadership are also emphasized throughout the year to ensure maximized college recruitment opportunities.
IMG’s soccer program and performance plan are built around periodization principles in 6-week cycles that include the following development modules:
- Individual training
- Team training
- Strength training
- Athletic & Personal Development
- Strength and Conditioning
- Mental Conditioning
- Leadership Development
- Athlete Management System
Student-athletes meet with their coaches to set up an individual development plan with overall long term goals, short term measurable objectives, and mutually agreed upon outcomes over the cycle. Following the 6-week period, coaches and players review their progress and set new objectives when necessary ahead of the upcoming cycle. Four times a year, players receive a report detailing their progress and future areas of focus which include strength, agility, and endurance test results as well as video review.

This was the second year the Legacy has made the trip down to Florida and, again, it was a huge success both on and off the field!
IMG Academy: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
IMG Academy is a private boarding school located in Bradenton Florida. It’s origins were based in tennis instruction as the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, founded in 1978 by its namesake. It became known by its current name when sports and entertainment company IMG bought the academy in 1987. They added golf, hockey, and basketball to go along with the existing tennis instructional programs.
While most people associate IMG with football, it wasn’t added until 2010. Despite being the newest sport added, football’s popularity made it the driving force behind IMG Academy’s rapid growth though the years. The instructional academy and boarding school campus has expanded from its original 190 acres to its current nearly 600 acres, with future expansion in the plans. Reports have IMG Academy having purchased an additional 134 acres of surrounding property.
With IMG Academy rolling right along as simply a boarding school where parents could send their children to train in their particular sport of interest, the concept seemed straightforward and above board: Student-athletes become better athletes, and in some cases elite, as they spend the majority of their days not in the classroom, but on the pitch, course, court, or field.
In 2010, IMG announced that they would begin fielding a high school football team that would start playing a competitive schedule in 2013. Suddenly, the small tennis academy turned multi-sport training facility became a juggernaut in the world of high school football, and there’s a lot of high school football fans who don’t seem to like the idea.
They see a program that has a huge competitive advantage over most other high school football teams. For one, IMG Academy’s daily schedule for its players is completely opposite of traditional high school programs. While the traditional high school football player attends classroom instruction for most of the day, then attends football practice for a couple of hours at night, IMG Academy has their student-athletes focusing on football during the day. Their curriculum is available online.
Then there’s the issue of funding. IMG Academy is a private school with virtually unlimited budget, while other high schools have to play within the confines of district budget guidelines. This allows IMG several advantages, including travel, training, nutritional programs, and marketing of the athlete to colleges.
There are drawbacks to attending and playing football at IMG Academy. The facility is not a sanctioned member of the FHSAA, thus isn’t eligible for the state playoffs or a state championship. The Ascenders (IMG’s mascot) play mostly 10-game schedules and try to schedule games against similar up-start performance facilities from other states.
So much of the IMG model doesn’t necessarily seem to line up with the traditional high school football landscape, including actually attending high school.
For now, IMG Academy continues to play high school teams in the Sunshine State and beyond, and the wins just keep coming.

Pekin girls soccer star taking her talents to Florida
Steve Stein | [email protected]
PEKIN — Val Champagne played only one season for the Pekin girls soccer team, but she left a legacy.
Champagne will attend the IMG Academy starting this school year. The junior is most likely the first central Illinois high school athlete to play soccer for the prestigious boarding school, located on a 600-acre campus in Bradenton, Fla.
Champagne will be getting a nearly daily dose of soccer at the IMG Academy, practicing or playing six days a week.
“I always want to grow as a person and a soccer player. I certainly can do that at the IMG Academy, plus there will be great exposure to college soccer coaches, more than I would get at Pekin,” she said.
Champagne wasn’t putting down Pekin when she made her comment about college recruiting. She was simply stating a fact.
“It’s so hard to leave Pekin,” she said. “I have so many friends there, and I can’t say enough about the administrators and teachers. They let me miss about two weeks of school last year because of soccer. I am who I am today because of Pekin.”
Who is she?
She’s a personable 16-year-old who has as strong a work ethic in the classroom as she does on the soccer pitch. She had a 4.0 grade-point average through two school years at Pekin.
“People may think the IMG Academy doesn’t focus on academics because it’s a school built for the student-athlete,” she said. “It absolutely is focused academically. The academics are tough. There’s a cap on the number of advanced placement courses you can take until you prove you can handle more.”
Pekin girls soccer coach Edgar Sandoval is confident Champagne can handle the academic and athletic rigors at the IMG Academy.
“Val is a driven student and soccer player,” Sandoval said. “Going to the IMG Academy is a wonderful opportunity for her to be challenged on many levels. We’ll miss her, but she’ll always have a lot of support here.”
This is a school year like no other because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Champagne has already felt the effects.
She had to self-quarantine for seven days and take a COVID-19 test before heading to Florida last week.
Her test was negative, but she was subjected to the 6-inch-long nasopharyngeal swab at the now-shuttered Heartland Health Services testing site in Pekin.
“I didn’t know my nasal cavity was that long. It was a funny feeling having that swab up there,” she said, making it clear she wasn’t laughing during the test.
Champagne said she originally was going to room at the IMG Academy with a golfer, but that was switched to a U17 soccer player like herself.
Soccer players have been placed in 12-player pods. Those players will practice together and keep the same schedule.
Champagne’s sophomore season at Pekin this spring was canceled because of the pandemic. She played for the Dragons as a freshman in 2019.
“I was very upset when the season was canceled, but I quickly realized it was done to keep everyone safe,” she said.
Losing the season at Pekin didn’t play a role in her decision to attend the IMG Academy.
“Not at all,” she said. “I was contacted by email in March by the IMG Academy, and my parents and I didn’t make the decision for me to go there until June.”
Champagne is a 5-foot-5 defender whose favorite position is outside back.
“I like to run all over the field,” she said. “It’s second nature to me.”
Sandoval said during Champagne’s lone season with Pekin, “she was fearless. She was a strong defender with an attacking mentality. She wasn’t afraid to make one, two or three plays and make a long run with the ball.”
Had Pekin played this spring, Sandoval said, Champagne would have seen action at center back, center midfield and forward.
Sandoval also coached Champagne on the Pekin Pride girls U8 club team.
“You could tell back then that Val was athletic and had a lot of potential,” Sandoval said. “She was all in. A real soccer kid.”
Champagne’s soccer resume outside of Pekin includes playing on the U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Region Olympic Development Program girls team and the Illinois Youth Soccer ODP state girls team.
Champagne attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Pekin through eighth grade.
Her parents are Ron Champagne and Nani Moazzam, and she has a brother, 12-year-old Bijan. Her father is a pathologist, and her mother is a general surgeon. Val is thinking of becoming a dermatologist.

IMG Academy – IMG Academy
Private Sports School in Bradenton, Florida, USA
IMG Academy is a preparatory boarding school and sports training center in Bradenton, Florida, USA.
History
Nick Bollettieri founded Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in 1978. The sports and entertainment company IMG acquired the academy in 1987. IMG acquired the youth division of David Leadbetter Golf Academy in 1993 and added football and baseball programs in 1994. Hockey and basketball programs were added in 2000 and 2001 respectively, and by 2002 the IMG campus had expanded to 190 acres (0. 77 km 2 ).IMG Academy suspended its hockey program in 2003. Football was added in 2010 as well as lacrosse. Athletics and Cross Country were added in 2013.
IMG Academy is currently located on 450 acres (180 ha) of land, and in 2011 IMG paid $ 7.5 million for an additional 110 acres (45 ha) adjacent to the current campus for future expansion. In 2014, IMG acquired an additional 24 acres (9.7 ha). The land borders IMG’s western campus, where the sporting achievement academy is expanding by $ 198 million.
IMG Pendleton School was founded in 1999 as a coeducational and college preparatory school for student athletes. In 2012, the school changed its name to IMG Academy. It is designed for both academics and athletics.
Programs
Tennis programs for boys and girls
The IMG Academy Tennis Programs offer year-round tennis camps ranging from one to five weeks and are led by Director Rohan Goetzke. The campus has 35 outdoor hard courts, 5 indoor hard courts and 16 green courts.
In 1987, thirty-two academy students or former students competed in the Wimbledon draw and twenty-seven competed in the United States Open. Notable past students include Andre Agassi, Monica Seles, Jim Courier, Kay Nishikori, Anna Kournikova, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
IMG announced the creation of the John Madden Football Academy in March 2010 and held its first camp from June 4-6, 2010.The football program offers a residency program and year-round camps ranging from three days to five weeks, and was previously chaired by former NFL Defender Chris Weinke. The academy first introduced the school football team in 2013. In 2013, MaxPreps named IMG Academy “The Best High School Football Club in the Country”. In the spring of 2015, IMG Academy appointed Kevin Wright as head coach after Weinke took over as quarterback coach at the then St. Louis Rams.Wright led the program to its first undefeated regular season (9-0) in 2015. Ernest Beiner, run coach, is featured in the NFL Undiscovered, which, since 2016, features foreign players who have little or no knowledge of the game.
Football programs for boys and girls
IMG Academy offers an Academy football program and year-round football camps. IMG Academy hosted the US Soccer full-time residency program for the US men’s U-16 and U-17 national teams.Launched in 1999 and closed in 2017, it has become an integral part of the development of the core prospects of youth football in the United States. The original idea behind the residency program was to give elite players the opportunity to train in a professional environment, as most MLS clubs did not have a substantial youth academy system until 2009. Bradenton Academy has grown from its original 20 players to 30 in 2002 and then to 40 in 2003. The program is currently divided into U-16 team and U-17 team.
A typical day for a student athlete in Bradenton consists of academic studies in the morning followed by sports training in the afternoon. The academy’s students take crash courses and graduate from high school a year early, making players who don’t immediately go pro are among the most actively recruited into college football. The academy can trace its roots back to Project 2010, which highlights how American football can turn the senior men’s team into a legitimate threat to World Cup victory by the end of the decade. Two programs emerged from Project 2010: Generation Adidas (formerly called Project-40 ) and Bradenton Academy. The academy was founded in January 1999 with the support of IMG and Nike, but was closed in 2017 due to an increase in the number of US Development Academy programs.
Baseball Program
IMG Academy has an Academy baseball program and year-round camps, in addition to the Wood Bat summer leagues.
Basketball programs for boys and girls
The IMG Academy Graduate School played in its only appearance at the 2016 National Prep Championships in New Haven, Connecticut.Teams included Brewster Academy, DME Academy, Elev-8 Sports Institute, Fork Union Military Academy, Hargrave Military Academy, IMG Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon School and others. The head coach of the IMG national high school team is Sean McAloun, who was previously the head coach of St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC.
His basketball alumni include Dallas Mavericks striker Dwight Powell and Orlando Magic striker Jonathan Isaac, sixth pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. In 2017, IMG Academy held its first two selections for the All-American McDonald’s game, Trevon Duvall was selected for the boys ‘game and Rella Booth was selected for the girls’ game. In 2018, Anferni Simons will step straight from academy into the 2018 NBA Draft, becoming the second player in academy history to do so and the third player to be selected straight out of high school.
While preparing for the 2017 NBA Draft, IMG Academy hosted their first draft combine. A professional basketball union will be held as an alternative (mainly for seniors) to measure their ability and potentially give them a chance to enter the NBA, if not give them a chance to play in the NBA G League or even overseas, with almost every participant that year did just that. Currently, four players who participated in the event have signed bilateral contracts to properly enter the NBA, eight of whom have gone overseas and 11 players have entered the G league. The event will be held again in 2018 and this year it will become even more popular with former UCLA player and current pro player LiAngelo Ball.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire WNBA 2020 season was held here.According to the plan, approved on June 15, the shortened regular season of 22 games will be played without the presence of fans.
Golf Program
IMG Academy offers a golf program and summer camps. Students and campers play on three courses at the Sara Bay Country Club, IMG Academy Golf Club and Palm Aire Golf Club. Andre Agassii, Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. These outstanding athletes are united not only by tennis. All of them graduated from IMG Academy at different times, a private elite school that combines an academic program and professional sports training. For more than 30 years, it has been educating student athletes for the best universities in the country. According to the latest statistics, about 98% of IMG Academy graduates go to prestigious American and foreign universities. The remaining 2% go to sports.
IMG Academy is located in Bradenton, on the beautiful Florida coast. Here in the Tampa Bay area, the ideal weather conditions for training are 260 days of sunshine a year. An impressive sports complex also helps students hone their skills: there are 52 tennis courts, 12 football fields, 3 full-size baseball fields, training baseball fields, golf and lacrosse fields, basketball courts and a gym on the school grounds. All classes are conducted under the guidance of leading world trainers using advanced technologies for individual programs.
In terms of academic education, IMG Academy is on a par with leading US schools. High school students are offered a number of courses that help them prepare as much as possible for admission to a university. Thus, the strongest students, aspiring to the most prestigious universities, can study from four to five majoring subjects in an in-depth (university) program. Thus, even before enrolling in the university, the children go through the material of the first two semesters, work out credits and pass exams. Grades on them are taken into account when enrolling in the university and further education. For those who need an additional year before admission after completing the basic school program, the Post-graduate program option is provided. It allows you not only to improve your academic performance, but also to improve your athletic performance in order to receive a sports scholarship at a prestigious university.
IMG Academy is the choice for those who want to connect their life with sports, but are not ready to sacrifice education for this. It is not so difficult to enter here: you need an extract with grades for the last 2 years, a motivational essay, letters of recommendation and an interview, but learning is not easy. Here, as in big sport, students are expected to achieve maximum results and the ability to achieve their goals.

On March 27, in Bradenton (Florida, USA) at the IMG Academy stadium, the Florida International Pro Addition international athletics tournament was held. For Darya Klishina , a 30-year-old woman from Tver, , who has been living and training in the USA for the last eight years, this was the first sports start in a year and a half. Recall that in July 2019, Klishina won gold at the Russian Championship in Cheboksary.
Daria Klishina competed in the well-known jumping sector of the IMG Academy, where she trained for the first four years immediately after moving to the United States, seven athletes from different countries.
In the best attempt, the woman from Tver with a tailwind of 2.7 m / s flew 7 meters 5 centimeters, repeating her personal record set back in the summer of 2011 at the European Youth Championship in Ostrava. In the third attempt, Klishine also conquered the grandmaster’s line, jumping 7 meters 1 centimeter.
According to the results of all attempts, Daria Klishina with the third result of the summer season in the world took second place in the Florida International Pro Addition, losing the lead only to the representative of the British Virgin Islands Chantel Malone with a jump of 7 meters 8 centimeters.Bronze of the tournament with a much more modest result (6.58) was won by Akela Jones from Barbados.

– It is too early to talk about the exact plans for this Olympic season. Much will depend on the physical condition and on the competition schedule, which may change due to the pandemic situation. As far as I know, Dasha is currently planning to compete at the Russian Championship. But in general, all preparations are aimed at reaching the peak of form for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which, I hope, will take place this year from July 23 to August 8.Dasha has already completed the qualifying standard for the Olympics, and recently the press service of World Athletics confirmed that Klishina can participate in all international competitions this season, ” the father of the world vice-champion Igor Klishin told Tverisport.ru.

IMG Academy Basketball – American ASB
IMG Academy is a coeducational private boarding school.Located in Bradenton, Florida. Founded in 1978. The history of this school is actually very interesting. At first it was the Tennis Academy. Tennis players such as Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova and Serena Williams passed through it. In 1993, it was acquired by IMG and began adding various sports programs: baseball, football, hockey. The basketball program was first only since 2001. At the moment it is considered one of the largest schools.
The head coach of the school is Sean McAloon.
In fact, he came only last year, and he does not have much merit. Prior to that, he trained for 5 years at St. John’s. Also without great victories. He has something to prove.
Let’s start with the alumni and follow the ESPN rankings.
Josh Green (2019 ESPN # 7) – jbgreen6
Whoever is more attentive will remember that we have already said about him in the article about applicants for the student of the year.Member of the McDonald’s All American Games 2019. The guy is from Australia. She is 198 cm tall and weighs 88 kg. According to interviews, he is a humble guy and loves Australia. “My goal is to represent Australia and show future children that anything is possible. I never thought that I would have the opportunities that I have now, so I just want to make sure that I do everything right and make the most of the opportunities that have been presented to me. ” And this is how he spoke about the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 “Obviously, this is a really big goal, but at the same time I feel that it is doable. There is a lot of talent in Australia and I am willing to do my best to be on this team and play with some of the greatest players in Australia.
On average for the season, he has 17.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals. You can also note an excellent hit percentage from three – 50% (25 out of 50).
Armando Bacot Jr. (2019 ESPN # 18) – armando
Gold medalist of the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Member of McDonald’s All American Games 2019.His height is 208 cm, and his weight is 107 kg. I only came to IMG in my senior year, but many people do that. Previously, he played for Trinity Episcopal School in Richmond. Favorite player? Shaquille O’Neill. Favourite song? “Backyard” by Travis Scott. By the time Bako announced that he was heading to IMG Academy, he had already received offers from North Carolina, Duke, and Virginia. In August, he chose UNC.
On average for the season has 13 points, 7.5 rebounds 1.9 block.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (2019 ESPN # 20) – jeremiah
Also the gold medalist of the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.A participant in the 2019 McDonald’s All American Games and will also represent the US national team at the 2019 Nike Hoop Summit. We will talk about this tournament in the next article. Height 205 cm and weight 105 kg. He was recruited by colleges such as Arizona, Kansas (this is where his father played), North Carolina and Villanova.
“It’s a small community, so everyone is very closely related to each other, and when I made my visit, I liked how strong everyone is and how supportive they are.”This is how he described his choice. I don’t think that in the first season he will be able to become the leader of the team, and it is not often that freshmen get a lot of time in Villanova, but we will see 100% of it in the NBA.
On average, he has 17.8 points for the season, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Now I would like to note that this is a record. Never before have 3 players from the same school participated in the McDonald’s All American Games. In fact, this is an outstanding achievement.
Non-graduates will go further
Jaden Springer (2020 ESPN # 11) – jaden
Height 195 cm and weight 84 kg.Also came just this season from Rocky River School in Charlotte. “The campus was just crazy,” said Springer, who also reviewed Huntington Prep and Christ School. “I love that. The best part is that I know all the guys and I know the training will be competitive and we will just improve each other. It will be fun.”
Springer has currently received 18 Division 1 scholarship proposals, the most famous of which are Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Tennessee and Wake Forest.
On average for the season, he has 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals.
Noah Farrakhan (2020 ESPN # 45) -_4seazons
In my subjective opinion, he clearly should be higher on the list, but this position can be understood, because the guy has added a lot during this season compared to the last one and will definitely be higher next year. It is 183 cm tall and weighs only 73 kg. It also has many offers from colleges such as Florida, Maryland, and Wake Forest.
He has 7.3 points, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals on average for the season. It can be noted here that despite the fact that he is a playmaker of losses, he has only 1.7
On this, it seems, it is necessary to finish, but two more people cannot be passed by, and here’s why. IMG, like many top schools, has a second team. And it is played by two very interesting graduates who are also included in the top 100 best students.
Lester Quinones (2019 ESPN # 89) – effort_les
He also participated in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship 2018, but played for the Dominican Republic national team, where they lost to Argentina in the quarterfinals, Leicester himself scored 24 points in that game. And in the end they took 6th place. Height 196 cm, weight 91 kg. Has an offer from Michigan, Florida State, Arizona, Memphis, but is likely to join LSU.
For the second team he has 22.7 points on average for the season.
Terrence Shannon Jr. (2019 ESPN # 90) – tj3 .__
Height – 200 cm, weight – 84 kg. I haven’t decided yet which college he will play for next year. So far, the main contenders are Illinois, Texas Tech and DePaul.
For the second team he has 16 points on average for the season.
