Captain America II: Death Too Soon (TV Movie 1979)
OK! Well, this is so bad its funny.
First off, this film has nothing to do with the Captain America we all know and love in the comics. Some background from the first movie that I watched but am not going to review: Steve Rogers is a former motorcross racer, now free lance artist and is the son of the original Captain America….(may be the one in the comics). He was in a wreck and was injected with “FLAG” serum by the goverment….Riiiiiiight. Steve rides around in a big blue van…when trouble arises, the back doors of the van open, smoke poors out, and the Captain shoots out on his red, white, and blue motor cylce. He wears a helmet over his traditional mask and his shield is small…very small. Everything on the original design on the shield that was white is now clear. It is a super flimsy piece of work too. it bends and folds whenever he uses it, especially in a seen where he is pushing pack a pack of wild dogs. The story sucks here too. Instead of the Red Skull or Baron Zemo we get the villian from The Man With The Golden Gun.
His name is Miguel and he is holding the country hostage. He is spreading an aging formula over cities and he will only provide an antidote for lots of money. Though we get to see a pretty fair amount of Cap in costume, he spends that time riding his motorcyle. I guess the director thought ten minutes of Cap riding his bike to be entertaining…whatever. The fighting seens are also kinda lame. Cap would rather throw a thug into a mud puddle than punch him. Also, every time he uses his enhanced strength or makes a big jump, we hear this supper annoying whistle sound and we hear it a lot. I will say this about the actor playing Cap, Reb Brown, is very big and very built,however, he sounds like a hick when he talks. This movie came out in the late 70s when Marvel comics and this big spread of superheroes on TV. The Hulk, Spiderman, Dr. Strange, and Cap were all planned TV shows. The Hulk and Spiderman both made it past the pilots but only the Hulk would last more than a season. The last try at making a Cap into a movie was in 1990.
The movie was supposed to go to theaters but was held back and put on video in 1992. I personally find it to be a much better movie…you be the judge.

Captain Henry of Geauga, Part II (U.S. National Park Service)
Charles E. Henry as Marshal of the District of Columbia. His old friend and commanding officer, President James A. Garfield, appointed him to this position.
From the book “Captain Henry of Geauga”
Charles managed to keep Guiteau healthy throughout his trial and all the way to the execution. How he kept his composure during the ordeal is a testament to his sense of duty and personal honor. Very few men have been put to the test like Marshal Henry.
With a new President in the White House Charles knew his time in office would be brief. He survived until November of 1882 when Chester Arthur dismissed him from service. He returned home to Bainbridge to once again take up farming. For several years he produced great quantities of maple syrup and wrote article for several newspapers. Charles enjoyed being home with his family, but farm life did not agree with him. He was quite relieved when a letter from Don Pardee, now a federal judge, arrived.
Pardee employed him on behalf of the court to travel to Texas and investigate a railroad labor strike. The job took several years to complete and paid Charles several thousand dollars.
Due to his success in sorting out the railroad problems, other opportunities presented themselves. In December of 1892, attorneys Harry A. and James R. Garfield, the eldest sons of the late President, called on Charles to assist them in an embezzlement case. Their clients, a lumber company in Cleveland had lost $20,000 to one of their agents in Philadelphia. The alleged embezzler Harpin A. Botsford, pocketed company receipts and fled to Brazil where there was no extradition agreement with the United States. The Garfields believed Charles had the skills to track down the fugitive. All he had to work with was a photo of the suspect and a sample of his handwriting.
On Christmas Eve Charles boarded a steamer out of New York. His initial destination was Rio de Janeiro, a place where felons where known to frequent.
After twenty-six days at sea Charles arrived in port. He immediately paid a call on the American consulate who filed the necessary paperwork for Charles to make the arrest. The Brazilian government agreed to allow Charles to take the fugitive out of Brazil should he find the culprit.
The detective work began in earnest. Charles showed the photo to a number of locals. One of the men recognized Botsford and told Charles the man in the photo was said to be on his way to Sao Paulo to buy a coffee plantation. Captain Henry located the office of a United States coffee broker who gave another positive identification of the photo. The broker knew that the suspect, now using the name H. B. Ford was on the move. Charles boarded the first train to Sao Paulo, arriving fifteen hours later.
Now hot on the trail, Charles visited the town hotels and reviewed the guest registers. At his third stop he found the name H. B. Ford, December 27, 1892.
The trail was burning up. A walk to the local coffee warehouse found a worker from Scotland who had seen Mr. Ford. Charles learned through his new friend that the suspect had gone north on a narrow road to the back country. The two men boarded the only train running and arrived at a small village some twenty miles north.

Captain Joe Sr. has over 55 years experience fishing the Delaware Bay and the Jersey coast. He served in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Sue St. Marie in the Great Lakes. Few captains match his vast experience with both day and nighttime fishing in the Delaware Bay. From the days of the big porgies and king fish, though the big bite of the weakfish that made Fortescue N.J. the “WEAKFISH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD”, to the present time of the croakers, stripers, and the spring time drum run, Captain Joe Sr. has seen it all.
Captain Joe Jr.
has grown up on the Delaware Bay, working as a mate on different boats since age 11. He was taught by many great captains, including his grandfather Captain Ernie and his dad Captain Joe Sr. At age 18, Captain Joe Jr. obtained his captains license and has been running the boat ever since. With the information that was passed from one generation to the next, combined with his own lifetime experiences and great sense of humor, Captain Joe Jr. makes an enjoyable day of fishing even better.
Captain Mike has spent a lifetime on the water, from working on tuna boats in Maine to fishing south Florida and back to the Delaware Bay. In 1987 he became part of the crew of the Bonanza II. From running the boat daily, Captain Mike has extensive knowledge of the Bay both during the day and at night. Captain Mike is just as comfortable either plotting a course off shore or netting fish on deck.
There will always be a mate or two available to assist you before, during and after your trip.
Chris Bland joined the Bonanza II crew in 2003 and is our full-time mate and licensed captain..
Nick Rothman, Captain Mike’s son, also works on the boat during the summer. He started in 2002 and is currently attending his first year at college.
John Green joined us in 2000 and is a part-time mate. John is also a teacher at Oxford High School in PA and is a licensed Captain.
You may occasionally see Ed Mahoney, Lance Ravis and Bobby Marino (who is also a licensed captain) working on deck. Andrew “Buck” Rothman, Captain. Mike’s youngest and Zack ” Z ” Captain. Joe Jr. youngest son, can also been seen on the boat learning the ropes. Please remember the mates work mostly for tips.

Good morning all,
Well, I’m taking advantage of 1,000,000 bored Nova Scotians and hoping to drive up my readership! Remember the phrase, “if you are not hungry enough to eat an apple you aren’t hungry”? Well, if you are not bored enough to read Capt.
Phil’s log, you aren’t bored!
For those from away, who might not know, Nova Scotia entered a province-wide, non-essential services lockdown this morning. This of course created quite a stir here on the waterfront. My personal point of view is that the crew and I are safer here in the Western zone as a tested group with a very small bubble than we are shutting down the ship and sending everybody out across the province for two weeks. It appears that the managers, who employee the crew and I and the owners agree so we will keep working.
Of course we have sought advice on all levels of concern from mental to physical health of our young crew. So far, it is agreed by all that seeing Lunenburg Bay from the water will cure most ills and we should keep striving toward that goal! I wholeheartedly agree.
So, what is happening behind the chain link and barbed wire that protects us, (or keeps us in)? The starboard side of the hull has been scraped and sanded. The bare spots have been primed and will be touched up again before the top coats will be applied.
In the shed, the portable bright work is being finished up and the name boards have been sanded and had a first coat. We have been at the dory oars and thwarts, the gangway landing, the dories, the anchors etc.
We also use this time to look deep into the cupboards and storage areas of the ship to make sure we are on top of everything. The deep cleaning is an every year event but we have the bonus of Covid cleaning this year.
One of the varnish jobs happening right now is the aft slider hatch. The mate has decided it’s ready to be stripped back to bare wood and brought back up. The added pressure for Emma B, who has taken this on as a project is that I stand and look at this hatch all the time. If there are runs in the varnish, or spots that weren’t scraped enough I notice them, and complain. And I complain constantly – I’m mean like that sometimes.
One of the great joys we have here on the waterfront is the friends we make at the museum. In the past, there was a whole crew of retired fishermen who worked to maintain the museum fleet and to share their own personal histories with all.
Those days have all but gone now, there is only one left. Philip works along on the Cape Sable chipping paint and cleaning up. He swears he is just waiting for the rest of the crew and will be leaving soon. I always ask if there is a chance for a young guy. Philip is the last of a line of men who all took the time to teach and mentor me. They would speak of storms and crews they sailed with, good catches and trips where they lost money.

It is always a privilege for me to spend any time with anybody who has toiled at sea. I’m sure the same is true of farmers, foresters and miners. Toiling with nature often gives you a larger world view. Sailors are often influenced not only by nature but by travelling to new places and interacting with new cultures and populations.

Chapter 2. Master of the ship
Article 58. Ship management.
the captain of the vessel is responsible for the management of the vessel, including navigation, taking all measures necessary to ensure the safety of navigation, preventing pollution of the marine environment, maintaining order on the vessel, preventing any damage to the vessel, people and cargo on it.
The captain of the ship , by virtue of his official position, is recognized as the representative of the ship owner and the cargo owner in relation to actions caused by the needs of the ship, cargo or navigation, as well as claims regarding the property entrusted to him, if there are no other representatives of the ship owner or cargo owner on the spot.
During emergency maritime events with the ship, as well as in the event of damage, damage and loss of the transported cargo or baggage, injury to people and other cases that may result in claims or claims against the shipowner, the ship’s master must take all necessary measures to documenting these cases in the manner prescribed by the current legislation of Ukraine, as well as conducting a preliminary investigation of an emergency maritime event, regardless of its classification.
Article 59. Obligations of rendering assistance to people in distress at sea.
The master of the ship is obliged, if he can do so without a serious threat to his ship and the persons on board:
- to provide assistance to any person found at sea who is in danger of death;
- move with the highest speed to help the perished, if he is informed that they need help, and if such actions on his part can reasonably be counted on.
For non-fulfillment of the duties specified in this article, the ship’s master is liable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
The shipowner does not bear any responsibility for the failure of the master of the vessel to provide assistance.
Article 60. Obligations to provide assistance after collision of ships.
The captain of each of the ships in collision is obliged, after the collision, to the extent he can do it without serious threat to his passengers, crew and vessel, to provide assistance to the other vessel, its passengers and crew. Masters of ships are obliged, as far as possible, to communicate to each other the names of their ships, home ports, as well as ports of departure and destination or the nearest port to which the ship will call.
For failure to fulfill the duties specified in this article, the captain is liable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
The owner is not responsible for the failure of the captain of the vessel to perform the duties of rendering assistance after a collision of ships.
Article 61.
Obligation to provide emergency medical care.
If a person on board a ship needs emergency medical care that cannot be provided at sea, the captain is obliged to go to the nearest port, inform the shipowner about it, and in case of calling a foreign port, also the consul of Ukraine.
Article 62. Duties of the captain of the ship in the event of a military danger, pirate actions, the danger of seizure of the ship.
In the event of a military danger, pirate actions, the captain of the ship is obliged to take all necessary and possible measures to save the people on the ship and to prevent the seizure of the ship, documents, cargo and other property on it.
Article 63. The right of the captain of a ship to own a firearm.
The captain of the ship has the right to own a service firearm and use it to ensure the personal safety and safety of people and property on board, in the manner and within the limits established by the current legislation of Ukraine.
Article 64. Actions of the captain of the ship in case of danger of the loss of the ship.
If, in the opinion of the captain, the ship is threatened with imminent death, after taking all measures to save the passengers, the captain authorizes the ship’s crew to leave the ship.
The captain is the last to leave the ship after taking all possible measures to save the ship’s, radio and machine logs, maps of this voyage, documents, valuables.
In the event of the loss of the ship, wherever its crew is taken, the captain retains his rights and fulfills his duties in relation to the crew.
Article 65. Maintenance of order on the ship.
Orders of the master of the ship within the limits of his authority must be unquestioningly followed by all persons on board.If any of the persons on board does not comply with the legal orders of the master, he takes the necessary measures in relation to these persons.
The captain of the ship has the right to apply incentives and impose disciplinary sanctions on persons of the ship’s crew, up to and including suspension from duty in the cases and in the manner provided for by the current legislation of Ukraine.
If the actions of a person on board do not contain a criminal offense, but threaten the safety of the ship or people and property on board, the ship’s master has the right to isolate this person in a separate room.For illegal keeping in a separate room or otherwise exceeding the authority to maintain order on the ship, the captain is liable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
Article 66. Consent of the captain of the vessel to the recruitment of crew members.
None of the members of the ship’s crew may be assigned to the ship without the consent of the captain.
Refusal of the captain of the vessel to accept the person who was sent to the vessel by the shipowner as a member of the crew must be justified.Such a refusal with appropriate justification is made in writing and transmitted to the shipowner and the person who is refused employment.
Article 67. The master of the ship as an official authorized to perform procedural actions in criminal proceedings.
If on board a ship in voyage, acts provided for by the law of Ukraine on criminal liability are committed, the captain of the ship is authorized to perform procedural actions in the manner prescribed by the criminal procedural legislation of Ukraine and the relevant Instruction approved by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine in agreement with the central executive authority, which ensures the formation and implementation of state policy in the fields of sea and river transport, and the central executive body that ensures the formation of state policy in the field of fisheries.
The captain of the vessel has the right to detain a person suspected of committing a criminal offense for transferring him to the relevant law enforcement authorities in the first port of Ukraine. If necessary, the captain of the vessel can send this person and materials of inquiry to Ukraine on another vessel registered in Ukraine.
In the event of the commission of an act provided for by the criminal legislation of Ukraine, while the vessel is in the port of Ukraine, the captain of the vessel is obliged to transfer the person suspected of committing this act to the relevant law enforcement authorities in the manner prescribed by the criminal procedure legislation of Ukraine.
Article 68. Rights of the captain of a ship in the event of a shortage of food.
If all vital supplies, including the irreducible food supply, are exhausted, for the purpose of general distribution the master of the ship has the right to requisition the required amount of food that the persons on the ship have and to requisition the cargo on the ship and which may be used for food. An act of requisition is drawn up.
The cost of requisitioned food and cargo shall be reimbursed by the shipowner.
Article 69. Rights of the captain of a ship in case of urgent need for money.
If during the voyage there is an urgent need for money to continue the voyage, especially for the repair of the ship or the maintenance of the crew, if there is no opportunity or time to receive the shipowner’s order, the captain of the ship has the right to sell part of the property entrusted to him, which is not necessary for the continuation of the voyage.

The captain of the vessel has the right to choose the method of acquiring money to continue sailing, which is the least unprofitable for the shipowner and cargo owner.
The value of the sold cargo must be reimbursed to its owner, unless the losses caused by this fall under the signs of general average or when the sale was carried out only in the interests of the cargo.
Article 70. Certificates of the fact of the birth of a child and the conclusion of marriage.
The captain is obliged to draw up an act in the presence of two witnesses about each case of the birth of a child, the conclusion of marriage on the ship, and also make an entry in the logbook.
This act is subject to submission to the civil registration authorities in order to obtain a birth or marriage certificate.
Article 71. Certification of the will and the fact of death.
The captain of the vessel is obliged to certify the will drawn up by the person who is on the ship, accept it for safekeeping and store one copy of the wills certified by him for transfer to the head of the port of Ukraine or the consul of Ukraine in a foreign port for subsequent transfer to the state notarial archive at the place residence of the testator.
The captain must draw up an act in the presence of two witnesses about each death on the ship, and if there is a doctor or paramedic on the ship, then in his presence, and also make an entry in the logbook.
An inventory of the property of the deceased on the ship is attached to the death certificate. The captain of the ship takes measures to preserve the property of the deceased.
The captain of the ship transfers the death certificate and the inventory of the property to the consul of Ukraine if the ship arrives at a foreign port where there is a consul of Ukraine, or to the shipowner, if the ship arrives at the port of Ukraine, and takes measures to bury the deceased. In extraordinary cases, when the ship must be on the high seas for a long time and the body of the deceased cannot be saved, the captain of the ship has the right to give the body to the sea in accordance with sea customs, about which an appropriate act is drawn up and a corresponding entry is made in the ship’s log.
Article 72. Relations with the consuls of Ukraine.
Relationships of the captain of the ship and other persons of the ship’s crew with the consuls of Ukraine are regulated by the Consular Charter of Ukraine.
