How long does a typical Toronto Rock game last. What factors can influence the duration of a National Lacrosse League match. How does the game structure contribute to the overall length of a Toronto Rock encounter.
The Basics of Toronto Rock Game Duration
Toronto Rock games, like all National Lacrosse League (NLL) matches, typically last around 2.5 to 3 hours. This duration includes the actual playing time, breaks between quarters, halftime, and any potential overtime periods. Understanding the structure of these games is crucial for fans planning their attendance or viewing schedules.
Game Structure and Timing
An NLL game consists of four 15-minute quarters. However, the clock stops frequently during play, which extends the actual duration of each quarter. Between quarters, there are short breaks, usually lasting about two minutes. The halftime break, occurring between the second and third quarters, is typically 15 minutes long.
- Four 15-minute quarters
- Short breaks between quarters (approximately 2 minutes)
- 15-minute halftime break
- Potential overtime periods
Factors Influencing Game Length
Several factors can affect the overall duration of a Toronto Rock game. These variables can cause a match to run shorter or longer than the average time frame.
Stoppages in Play
The game clock stops frequently during an NLL match. This occurs during penalties, timeouts, injuries, or when the ball goes out of bounds. These stoppages add to the overall game duration.
Overtime Periods
If a game is tied at the end of regulation time, overtime periods are played. In the NLL, overtime consists of sudden death 15-minute periods until a goal is scored. This can significantly extend the game’s duration.
Pace of Play
The speed at which teams play can impact game length. Fast-paced, high-scoring games might have more stoppages for face-offs after goals, while defensive battles might see fewer interruptions.
The Spectator Experience at Toronto Rock Games
Attending a Toronto Rock game is more than just watching the 60 minutes of play. The entire event typically lasts longer than the game itself, providing a full entertainment experience for fans.
Pre-Game Activities
Fans often arrive early to enjoy pre-game festivities, which may include player warm-ups, entertainment, and concession visits. It’s recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Post-Game Events
After the game, there might be opportunities for fan interactions, autograph sessions, or other events. These can extend the overall time spent at the venue.
Broadcasting and Media Coverage
For those watching Toronto Rock games on television or streaming platforms, the broadcast duration may differ slightly from the in-arena experience.
Pre and Post-Game Shows
Broadcasts often include pre-game analysis and post-game wrap-ups, which can add an additional 30 minutes to an hour to the viewing experience.
Commercial Breaks
Television broadcasts include commercial breaks, which may slightly extend the viewing time compared to attending the game in person.
Planning Your Toronto Rock Game Experience
When planning to attend or watch a Toronto Rock game, it’s wise to allocate at least 3 hours for the full experience. This allows for potential overtime, pre-game activities, and any post-game events.
Tips for Attendees
- Arrive early to enjoy pre-game activities and find your seat
- Be prepared for the possibility of overtime
- Check the schedule for any special events or promotions that might extend your time at the venue
Toronto Rock’s Game Schedule and Timing Considerations
The Toronto Rock’s schedule can impact game timing and duration. Understanding these factors can help fans plan their attendance or viewing more effectively.
Regular Season vs. Playoff Games
Playoff games may have different timing considerations. They often feature more intense play, potentially leading to more stoppages and a longer overall duration. Additionally, playoff games might have extended pre-game ceremonies or post-game celebrations.
Home vs. Away Games
While the actual game duration remains consistent, the overall experience might differ between home and away games for fans. Home games at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton often feature more extensive pre-game and intermission entertainment.
The Intensity of Toronto Rock Games
The fast-paced nature of lacrosse contributes to the excitement of Toronto Rock games. Despite the potential for a game to last up to 3 hours, the action on the field remains intense throughout.
Constant Action
Unlike some sports with frequent lulls in play, lacrosse features near-constant movement and action. This high-energy play helps maintain fan engagement throughout the game’s duration.
Strategic Timeouts
Each team is allowed one timeout per half, lasting 45 seconds. These brief pauses can be crucial for strategy but don’t significantly impact the overall game length.
Comparing Toronto Rock Game Duration to Other Sports
To put the length of a Toronto Rock game into perspective, it’s helpful to compare it with other popular sports.
Lacrosse vs. Hockey
NLL games are similar in length to NHL hockey games, which typically last around 2.5 hours. Both sports feature fast-paced action with frequent stoppages.
Lacrosse vs. Basketball
NBA basketball games often run slightly longer, averaging closer to 2.5 to 3 hours. The difference lies in the structure of play and timeout rules.
Lacrosse vs. Football
NFL football games are generally longer, often lasting 3 hours or more due to more frequent stoppages and longer breaks between quarters.
Understanding the duration of a Toronto Rock game enhances the fan experience, allowing for better planning and appreciation of this exciting sport. Whether attending in person or watching from home, fans can expect a thrilling 2.5 to 3-hour journey into the world of professional lacrosse.

Dynasty Clubs: Toronto, 1946-1951, 4 Cups
Coinciding with the opening faceoff in the Centenary Classic on January 1, 2017, the National Hockey League began celebrating its 100th season. Founded in 1917, the history of the NHL is equally rich in high-profile events and iconic figures who have played a role in preserving that history.
Every Saturday throughout 2017, NHL.com will be bringing you content to celebrate the league’s centenary.
In this series we will tell you about the clubs-dynasties – teams that not only sparkled during individual seasons, but continued to increase their dominance over time and left a bright mark in the memory of entire generations. In this issue, we remember the Toronto Maple Leafs, who won four Stanley Cups between 1946 and 1951.
Dynasty: Toronto Maple Leafs, 1946-1951
4 Stanley Cups: 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951
Regular season wins: 1
Ted Kennedy, Frank Mathers , Bud Poyle, Joe Primo, Conn Smythe, Harry Watson
Coaches: Hap Day, Joe Primo
Rise of a dynasty
Maple Leafs road to NHL dominance at the end of 1 940s – early 1950s x began, surprisingly, on the fields of Normandy on July 1944th. Following the Allied landings in France, an artillery unit commanded by a talented Canadian businessman and sports functionary, Conn Smythe, was attacked by enemy aircraft and Smythe was seriously injured in an explosion of an ammunition depot.
In September 1944, a veteran of two World Wars was commissioned to Canada, where he turned his attention back to hockey, his lifelong passion. Smythe managed the Maple Leafs before the war and, as early as 1931, oversaw the construction of the state-of-the-art Maple Leaf Gardens arena in downtown Toronto, the year the team first won the Stanley Cup under the Maple Leaf name.
Engaging in a proxy conflict for control of the management company Maple Leaf Gardens Ltd with his characteristic uncompromising force, he won his mini-battle by becoming its majority shareholder. In the fall of 1947, as the team entered the 1947-48 season as current Stanley Cup winners, Smythe proclaimed himself company president and owner of the Maple Leafs. For many years to come, “Maple Leaves” got an ambitious leader, whose personality is associated with the most successful years in the history of the club.
The first of two “Toronto” dynasties began to form before Smythe’s return from the front. The club was led by Frank Selke during the war, and was so successful in the role of general manager that a future conflict between the two managers was inevitable. Selke’s fate was sealed when Smythe, whom he did not support in the power struggle in the management company, became the owner. After the 1945-46 season, Selke was forced to resign and moved to Montreal.
One of the stumbling blocks between the two general managers was Selke’s acquisition of forward Ted Kennedy at 1943rd. Smythe believed that he had been paid too high a price, although eight years later Kennedy would become a five-time Stanley Cup winner with the Maple Leafs, and the first of them, at the age of 19, would take already in 1945.
Dynasty then, however, did not work out. Despite the fact that Gay Stewart became one of the leading scorers of the following season in 1945-46, the team did not make the playoffs at all – this happened to the reigning Stanley Cup winner for only the second time in league history. Just returned from the front after two and a half years in the regular army units, goalkeeper Turk Broda, who played only 15 games, regaining his lost sense of the puck.
By the 1946-47 season, which began Toronto’s first dynasty, the NHL was still an “original six” league that included the Maple Leafs, Boston, Chicago, New York York Rangers, Montreal and Detroit.
In order to increase competition and profitability of the clubs, the league decided to expand the regular season to 60 matches. The professionalization of hockey continued: linesmen began to be appointed from neutral cities, and the owners of individual prizes (in 19The 47th “Art Ross Trophy” was invented) began to pay real money, which immediately increased competition – let’s not forget that these were times when the players’ union did not exist, and club owners, including Smythe, were in complete control of the financial side of the issue and often bent the stick.
The game gradually became more spectacular and understandable to a wide audience. Referees from that season for the first time began to use gestures when making violations, the captains and their assistants received the letters “C” and “A” on their sweaters. A couple of years later, teams began to add white paint to the water before freezing to make the ice look more festive – before that, the ice that was frozen on concrete looked lifeless gray and the black puck was often corny not visible from the stands. All this was extremely important, given that at 19The 46th Rangers became the first of the NHL clubs to broadcast home games on American television (several years later league matches will be shown in Canada).
The heyday of the dynasty
The Maple Leafs have been heavily updated before the start of the championship, but the fusion of youth and experience has only benefited the team. An excellent season was spent by goalkeeper Broda (he was considered a Pole in Canada for a long time, although he was born in a Ukrainian family and was named Vladimir), star center forward Seal Epps, who also fought from 1943rd to 1945 at the front.
The latter was generally an extremely remarkable figure, having won back in 1934 the Games of the British Empire (today this tournament is called the Commonwealth Games) in the pole vault, represented Canada in this athletics discipline at the 1936 Olympics, where he became the sixth, and after hockey made a career in politics. Smythe has repeatedly called Epps the best player in the history of the Maple Leafs, and his Olympic ambitions have already been satisfied by descendants – Epps’ granddaughter Jillian won three Olympics as part of the Canadian team from 2006 to 2014.
Despite Mister Hockey Gordie Howe’s bright debut season (he bludgeoned Maurice Richard in one of his first matches), the confrontation between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs was still ahead. Toronto defeated the Canadiens 4-2 in the Stanley Cup Final, losing the first game 0-6. Broda was stronger in a face-to-face confrontation with the inimitable Bill Durnan, who won seven Vezina Trophy in eight years. Kennedy scored the winning goal in Game 6.
“We have two great centers, Epps and Kennedy,” Smythe said after winning that Stanley Cup. “If we can get another player of their caliber, power in the mid lane will make us the best.”
The announcement was the forerunner of the biggest trade in NHL history before the start of the 1947-48 season between Toronto and Chicago, where five players left to replace 1944 Hart Trophy-winning star center Max Bentley and rookie Cy Thomas. Already in that regular season, Epps, Bentley and Kennedy, justifying Smythe’s prediction, became the club’s three leading scorers. Brod played another brilliant season, the only time in Durnan’s career (his Montreal never made the playoffs) that he was stripped of the title of the league’s best goaltender. In the Finals, the Maple Leaves left the Red Wings with no chance in the series 4-0, taking a second straight Stanley Cup.
In the off-season, Toronto’s triple fist at center fell apart. Epps, 33, who had been thinking about quitting hockey as early as 1947, ended his career in the summer of 1948. Smythe seemed to persuade him to stay for another year, but Eppps, having learned that Toronto head coach Hap Day had already appointed a new captain, did not arrive at the club’s location. Day had the authority to make such decisions – he was as much of a club legend as Epps, having won the Stanley Cup seven times as a player, coach and then assistant general manager.
The loss of Epps backfired on the Maple Leaves as the season progressed, where they barely made it to the playoffs at all, where their experience took its toll. Club leaders – Broda, Bentley and new captain Kennedy – made the difference for Toronto, giving up just one game in the semi-finals and none (again, the Red Wings suffered) in the final. The Maple Leafs became the first team in NHL history to win three Stanley Cups in a row.
“Toronto” already felt the breath in the back from the hungry “Red Wings” and Smythe was acutely worried about the motivation of his team, which was in the role of the victim. In high season 1949-50, he gave a public scolding for overweight Brode, whom he did not return to the squad until the goalkeeper lost weight. During this time, Al Rollins was acquired from the AHL, whom Broda did not let into the squad for the time being.
“Detroit” was head and shoulders above rivals in the championship and it was clear that the playoffs will be hot. Their semi-final lasted seven games, with the winning goal scored by the Red Wings in overtime. Toronto’s record streak ended, and the Red Wings were unstoppable in the Finals against the Rangers. The hatred of the two teams for each other was so blatant that the Rangers, whose Madison Square Garden was given over to the circus touring for part of the final series, decided to play two home games in Toronto, realizing that the entire stadium would cheer against Detroit. “. But the Rangers didn’t help.
Smythe felt that the dynasty was still alive and longed for revenge, having decided on serious changes. He made Day his assistant, and put Joe Primo in charge of the team. Rollins hasn’t yet ousted Broda from the roster, but has already made more appearances throughout the season and has generally looked brilliant, winning the Vezina Trophy. However, in the playoffs, Primo still bet on Brody’s experience.
The expected confrontation between the “Maple Leaves” and “Red Wings” did not happen, as “Detroit”, confidently taking first place in the championship, lost in the semifinals to “Montreal”. The final turned out to be surprisingly tight-fisted as all five matches went into overtime. Almost every time, thanks to Brody’s fantastic game (he only conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game during the playoffs), Toronto took up. In the fifth match, the decisive goal was scored by the defender (like Broda, of Ukrainian origin) Bill Barilko.
This was the Maple Leafs’ fifth Stanley Cup in seven years and the fourth in the last five seasons.
Decline of the dynasty
Smythe didn’t intend to stop there, but many factors indicated that the era of another club, Detroit, was coming. Broda entered the last season in his career, Kennedy’s performance dropped, Barilko’s goal was not just the last in his career – in his life, since in the summer of 1951 he crashed in a plane crash.
Red Wings dominated the championship 1951-52 and all Smythe could count on was that Detroit would stumble in the playoffs like they did last season. However, Gordie Howe’s team had already entered into their “ownership rights”. In the semi-finals, Detroit destroyed Toronto 4-0, and then did not give up a single game in the finals to Montreal. To convey the power of those “Red Wings”, suffice it to say that goaltender Terry Savchuk did not miss a single puck during the Stanley Cup on home ice.
One dynasty in front of everyone transferred powers to another dynasty.
Pressure and resentment forced Smythe to make mistakes in recruiting. For goalkeeper Harry Lumley, he gave “Chicago” three important players of the club, including Rawlins, then openly clashed with Bentley, who left the club’s location right during the championship. The Maple Leafs fought until the very end for a playoff ticket, but were left with nothing. It was visible and obvious to everyone, including Smythe, a sign of the end of the team-dynasty.
It took exactly ten years for the resilient owner of Toronto to create a new one. But that will be another story.
Stories of a gynecologist who moved from Yekaterinburg to Georgia – May 1, 2023
Obstetrician-gynecologist Sabina Utamuradova was born and worked in Yekaterinburg, lived in Georgia and Ukraine, and is now going to Canada

Sabina Utamuradova, after graduating from the medical university, helped children to be born at the Yekaterinburg Clinical Perinatal Center for several years. And then she went on vacation to Georgia, met a man there and married him a year later. For several years, she managed to work in two clinics in Georgia, go to Ukraine, return to Yekaterinburg and plan a move to Canada. Sabina told E1.RU about her path, about how Russian women differ from Georgian women, and also about what the “golden rain” contraceptive method is and which organ Georgians call “pearl”.
— I loved the perinatal center very much, I also worked with Martirosyan (Sergey Martirosyan was the chief physician at the ECPC until April 2022, now he is the chief freelance specialist in obstetrics at the Moscow Health Department. — Note ed. ). I think this is a unique perinatal center, they do things there that they don’t do anywhere else in Russia,” says Sabina. — Doctors have always been for modern obstetrics, European protocols and innovations. I worked there until 2019. In September 2018, there was a planned closure of the maternity hospital for a bath, and I went with my friends on vacation to Georgia. There I met Sev.
They maintained a relationship at a distance for a year, and then they got married, and Sabina moved to Georgia. The head physician supported her decision to live in another country.
— In general, I think it’s better to do something and regret it than to regret a missed opportunity, and that’s what I’m guided by in my life, — she says.

— Everything in the world happens through acquaintances. When my husband and I were at the photo shoot, the photographer said that her husband was opening a medical clinic. I jokingly asked: “When he opens it, let him call me.” And after a couple of months I was already working, – says the girl.
This women’s health clinic was opened by residents of St. Petersburg who moved to live in Georgia. It was just aimed at Russians who had moved and had not yet adapted to the language. Almost all doctors in the clinic were Russian speakers.
— At first I worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist, then I became the medical director of the clinic. When I just moved and had not yet got three jobs, I started a Facebook page (the activities of the Meta corporation and its two services – Facebook and Instagram – are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), it is popular in Georgia. On the G-spot page, I wrote articles on gynecology and sexology. She gained popularity very quickly, and I began lecturing for women. Then I realized that in Georgia no one knows anything about contraception and sexology, everything related to the female body is a taboo topic.
Sabina worked for a long time at the Ekaterinburg Clinical Perinatal Center, she still believes that this is one of the best and most advanced maternity hospitals in the world and the best in Russia

there was not a single sex shop in Georgia. A few years ago, they tried to open such a store, but after it was splashed with paint and pelted with stones, it was closed. Six months ago, another sex shop was opened, but only women can get there, men are not allowed in, fearing that they will smash the windows.
And then, in 2019, Sabina met a girl who owned a sex shop in Kyiv, and she began to bring devices to the clinic where Sabina worked.
“We put them in a closed closet so that the Georgians wouldn’t see them,” she recalls. – This girl also lectured, talked about toys. I also met the first doula in Georgia, and she brought me to the head physician of the Pineo Medical Ecosystem perinatal center in Tbilisi. This is one of the largest private maternity hospitals in Georgia. In parallel with the women’s health clinic, I began to work there.

– dealing with acute pain.
– Several maternity hospitals were open, but there was a strict curfew, you could go outside from 7 am to 9 amevenings, at night – no, – says the doctor. – You had to have a special pass for every birth so that you could pass. It was impossible to use personal transport, public transport did not work, we almost always moved on foot. Nothing worked for a very long time, all establishments were closed. Then I came to Yekaterinburg and was surprised, where is the covid?
In the summer of 2020, restrictions were eased in Georgia, a women’s health clinic was opened, and it became the most popular in Tbilisi among Russians and not only.
“We also have many Georgian patients,” says Sabina. – By the winter of 2021, everything was closed again, it was impossible to work, we froze the clinic. By this time, I was just finishing my certificates in ultrasound and obstetrics. My husband was offered a job in Kyiv, and we moved there. While I lived in Georgia, we got 4 cats and a dog. We stuffed animals into the car, things and sailed from Batumi to Odessa by ferry. I flew to Russia to confirm my diplomas and accreditation.
The doctor is required to undergo periodic accreditation every five years – this is a confirmation of the professional level.
In Georgia, a doctor began to maintain a page on the social network about gynecology and sexology, she quickly gained popularity. Sabina discovered that patients in Georgia know very little about women’s health

Sabina flew to Yekaterinburg to pass exams and get accredited. She went to visit her native perinatal center and could not leave without work.
— The head physician said: “There is nothing to suffer from bullshit, go to work,” the girl recalls. – I submitted my documents for verification in Ukraine, it takes a lot of time, so I took exams in Yekaterinburg and worked. And then HBO happened. My husband has been here with me all this time, plans to go to Ukraine have disappeared. He was offered a job in Canada (he works in the tourism and hotel business), he went there, and I stayed in Yekaterinburg, because I could not get a visa right away, first he must apply for a residence permit. I submitted the documents, but after the covid in Canada there were huge queues, I passed everything I needed and now I’m just waiting for confirmation to go to my husband.
It will take about eight years to earn a medical degree in Canada, but Sabina is determined.
— It will take approximately two years to pass the exams, several months between them. Their exams are something like our governments at the university. Then you enter the residency, it’s something like our residency, only it lasts 5 years. There the directions are broader, ours are narrow. The same duty in hospitals. I learned that while you confirm your diplomas, you can work in science, laboratories also need doctors, says Sabina.
Sabina said that she misses her husband, but she is sure that they will be able to wait until the meeting. Indeed, at the beginning of their relationship, they were also at a distance

The obstetrician-gynecologist told what peculiarities of the behavior of patients she encountered in Georgia. According to her, it is not customary to talk about women’s health and sex there.
— A lot of Georgian women wrote in a personal, asking to tell, for example, about modern methods of contraception, — says the doctor. – I told them, and they answered: “I use the golden rain method.” I was at a loss as to what it was. The girl explained: “Now, if you pee immediately after intercourse, you won’t fly in, I’ve been using protection for ten years already.” Yes, this is called infertility, it is not a method of contraception. So-called folk methods flourish there. It seems wild, but in Russia, in fact, for the most part, the same thing.
The doctor said that in both Russia and Georgia, women know little about their health. They don’t even complain if they experience discomfort and pain during sex, because they consider it normal
Photo: provided by the heroine of the publication
– At the appointment, gynecologists ask the patient about sex and orgasm, whether she enjoys it. If you ask directly, most women will answer: “I don’t feel anything” or “I’m in pain.” But she will not tell you about it herself as a complaint, because she thinks that this is normal. Both in Georgia and in Russia the situation is similar. Especially in small towns. And few women themselves will tell the doctor that they do not feel an orgasm, that they experience discomfort. This comes to light when you give a patient a sexuality test. I ask: “Do you understand that you can work with this and it will be better?” They reply, “We thought it was the norm. ”
In Georgia, the girl was also engaged in aesthetic gynecology – restoration of the anatomical structure and functions of the external genital organs.
“Doctors put in fillers, work on enhancing sensations,” the doctor explains. – When I told some patients from Armenia, Georgia about this, it seemed to them something impossible. They even find it difficult to name organs. They say: “I would like to change my pearl.” You can call everything by its proper name, this is not a vulgar word, but a medical designation. It’s not a pearl, it’s a vulva.
